Via @gretathunberg This year we have seen many defining elections all over the world. On November 5th, it is time for one of the most powerful countries in the world – the USA – to go to the polls. It is probably impossible to overestimate the consequences this specific election will have for the world and for the future of humanity.
There is no doubt that one of the candidates – Trump – is way more dangerous than the other. But no matter if Trump or Harris wins, the USA – a country built on stolen land and genocide on indigenous people – will still be an imperialist, hyper-capitalist world power that will ultimately continue to lead the world further into a racist, unequal world with an ever increasingly escalating climate- and environmental emergency.
With this in mind, my main message to Americans is to remember that you cannot only settle for the least worst option. Democracy is not only every four years on election day, but also every hour of every day in between. You cannot think you have done “enough” only by voting, especially when both those candidates have blood on their hands.
Let’s not forget that the genocide in Palestine is happening under the Biden and Harris administration, with American money and complicity. It is not in any way “feminist”,“progressive” or “humanitarian” to bomb innocent children and civilians – it is the opposite, even if it is a woman in charge. And this is of course one example among many of American imperialism. I cannot for my life understand how some can even pretend to talk about humanitarian values, without even questioning their own role in further deepening global oppression and massacres of entire countries.
So, Americans, you must do everything in your power to call out this extreme hypocrisy and the catastrophic consequences American imperialism has on a global scale. Be uncomfortable, fill the streets, block, organise, boycott, occupy, explicitly call out those in power whose actions and inaction lead to death and destruction. Join and support those who are resisting and leading the change. Nothing less will ever be acceptable.

"Disabilities create multidimensional impacts, and experts agree that the entire disability community is at greater risk of suffering from the negative impacts of climate change. It’s imperative that disabled people have access to education on disaster response, communicating with emergency responders, and self-care at a level that is least restrictive and appropriate. Every disability and experience creates a unique situation, and even well-trained responders will need a way to communicate with individuals about their specific needs. A disabled person is two to four times more likely to die or be critically injured in a climate-related disaster due to lack of access to information, lack of transportation or accessible emergency shelters, and mobility limitations. "

"If we define peaceful protest as designated protest zones that don't cause any public inconvenience we've more or less defined it out of existance.
Past protest movements (civil rights, anti-war, suffrage) were disruptive in a way that modern whitewashing understates."
-- Zeke Hausfather, "A tireless chronicler and commentator on all things climate" -NYTimes. Climate lead @stripe , writer @CarbonBrief, scientist @BerkeleyEarth , IPCC/NCA5 author

I’m probably preaching to the choir here and everyone’s gonna be like ya no shit we’ve been saying this. but I’ve been thinking lately about how incredibly attached I am to my comfort zone. How a lot of people, online and in real life, are operating with the base assumption that activism is something to be smoothly incorporated into our lives. Caring and taking action means doing what you can, buying from more ethical companies, spreading awareness, going to a protest if you can. And on one hand, you can’t push your limits, and changing the way you live will not happen overnight. This fight needs to be sustainable and if you do something extreme and burn out immediately then you’re kind of out of the game. But why are we trying to continue with normal lives right now. Why am I so scared of speaking out to people in my life. Why does life have to go on? What has to happen before we all abandon the life we are currently living and start being “extreme”? I’m not saying we should all quit our jobs right now and start camping outside government buildings.. but also…. Why not? What’s stopping us? What do we really have to lose? What freedom or safety or shallow joy do we have to lose? What has to happen before that level of action is considered warranted? So if you’re reading this and you haven’t already asked yourself this, I invite you to ponder what comfort zones you’re holding onto at the sake of others. This isn’t about giving up comfort and joy just the sake of it, it’s about giving up the comfort and joy we get from the exploitation of others. Is there anyone in your life you’ve been too scared to have a conversation with? Is there a job you haven’t spoken out at? Have you questioned and changed the way you consume, where you give your attention and money? How do you spend your time, and how could it be spent dismantling actively violent systems? Have you gone to any protests or other demonstrations? Have you reached out to your community and found other people fighting the same fight? What are you holding on to, and is it really worth it? This is fucking urgent. This is hard, it’s a hard process, it’s uncomfortable, and frankly it fucking sucks. But this is urgent. If you haven’t already, time to kick it up a notch.

“When we think about environmental disaster and how we can solve that together, I like to think of it as a form of environmental liberation—which is not all that different than queer liberation, women’s liberation, Black liberation,” Tosca said. “I like to think of the climate crisis as just another thing that’s disproportionately affecting people who are vulnerable, so in order to eliminate that vulnerability, we have to address it the way we would any other liberating movement.”

I made posts previously about how modern day Jonathan and Arthur would be Gen Z. And of course, Mina, Lucy, and Quincey would also.
But it just struck me:
Seward would be a millennial.
And as a millennial, that makes me feel somewhat called out by the universe.
