Abandoned and reclaimed.

There used to be an orchard here, but it had long since overgrown. For a few years now, however, some sheep have been working here during the summer. Right now, the grass is swaying high, but soon these efficient lawn mowers will have leveled it to ankle height for the benefit of the meadow plants. Initiatives like these make me so happy; Not only are they, although small, important for preserving the traditional biotopes that are Finland's most threatened habitat type, but also small victories and sources of joy today when nature conservation endures many setbacks.

Unlike synthetic preservatives, the pair’s plant-based fruit satchets are natural and are designed to release active ingredients for preservation. The product aims to be a low-cost and eco-friendly method to reduce food waste for farmers across East Africa.

Computational design on the Biorock Pavilion:

Excerpt from Dezeen article:

The Biorock Pavilion is a concept for an amphitheatre-like event space that could be grown underwater. The form of the building is based on that of a seashell, as well as mathematical forms.

The basis of the pavilion would be a skeletal structure comprised of a network of very thin steel rods, which would be immersed in a solution of minerals.

It would be grown by electrodeposition of minerals

An electric current would then be run through the steel skeleton, allowing the remainder of the pavilion to be 'grown' as the minerals calcify atop the base structure.

"It takes those minerals out of the seawater and produces a structure similar to reinforced concrete," stated Pawlyn. "This uses an absolute minimum of material to grow a whole building."
