Doll apple slices!!! I make a lot of them at once, usually because it takes me a while to get the color right ^^
I'm making them out of Model Magic, because it's easy to mix and super lightweight, but I think any lightweight air dry clay would work? I want to test other types of soft, light clay
Other than model magic or a similar clay, I use a flat surface to roll and mix them on, a small tray to let them dry in (mine's a clear plastic doll package piece), a narrow ridge to shape them on (I use the plastic packaging from a set of six glue sticks, but I think a narrow dowel or stick could work), as well as a cutting board and sharp blade to cut them into slices
I started with white and yellow, and a yellow-green custom color-- my previous ones were a white and green mix, because I have a bunch of light green to use up, and I wanted to see if this would work like I thought
It takes a bit of testing to get the right mix-- I'm going for a pale yellow, but not a strict white-yellow, with the smallest hint of that green shade. For a peach slice, I'd use more yellow mixed in with the barest touch of red, or a tiny bit of red-- red and blue both will spread SO MUCH more than yellow, so use sparingly and in small amounts, and mix it completely through before deciding to add anything more
Once I've mixed up a blob of the right color for whatever fruit slice I'm making, I roll out small tubes about the size of the fruit slice I want
Doesn't have to be the fanciest tube, just a tube. But then I press it over the ridge of an old glue stick container, to get the curve of where the apple core is cut out
I usually keep a lot of old scraps of packaging and stuff to make little clay tools like this. This one's been a long favorite, since I can dry things in the separate sections, and I'm always using glue sticks for doll rooms and furniture and cardstock food ^^
But, once you've turned all your clay into these tubes and shaped them, you'll have to set them aside for a few days to dry
I'll finish these up, and do a follow up on cutting the slices themselves in a reblog, so if you're seeing this post alone, just look for my part two in the notes!!

Okay pic spam, I'm throwing my wip pics here, and my Rosethorn sideblog can be for tutorials and finished pieces ^^
This was yesterday before work's doing, made a mod podge and paint mix to be jam on bread and pie/tart filling!! I'm hoping that the little paper confetti looks like berry bits once I later on more of the mix, and that I can match the color-- it's a mix of two acrylics, because why do things easy?
Today I'm home sick, my meds have kicked in enough that I can be up and doing quiet, calm things, like carefully scraping texture into a dozen model magic macarons by hand X'D
Or making over sixty blackberries by hand!!
I originally meant to go back and try to give them that little-berry-blobs-stuck-together texture, but lemme tell you, I used up all my patience just keeping them from sticking to one another (and reshaping the ones that did touch and immediately fuse together -__-)
Between teaching kids how to mix colors with clay at work, and wanting to expand my own doll food collection without spending as much as Make It Minis charge (and the gambling aspect. Like, if I'm going for a fun surprise, it's great, but once you open your fifth red velvet bundt cake, the magic starts to run a little dry), I've been making a lot of model magic clay food. I like the texture and weight of it, dry and while working with it. I like being able to just keep some in a baggy and squishing/shaping it. I like how smoothly the colors blend
I also finally found a nice yellowish wood color paper!!! And it's a giant roll of it too!!
I have to cut it to scale, the wood is sized for 1:1 wood flooring, but layering the brown paper and then cutting my own wood panels works well so far. We'll see how it goes once it's done!
