Dreamstat referring to Claudia as “our daughter”rather than “sister” doesn’t just reveal that whatever he tells Claudia (and himself), Louis still ultimately thinks of Claudia as his daughter and knows on some level that he’s failing her, but also tells us about the real Lestat’s view of her, because apparently even the most fucked up parts of Louis’ mind cannot conjure up a version of Lestat that doesn’t treat Claudia as his fledgling/child before everything else ->
“It's not as simple as choosing a new family configuration. 'Now I'm your cousin.' 'Now I'm your aunt.' I am your maker!’” (Lestat, 1x06) ->
“Claudia was my dark child, my love, evil of my evil. Claudia broke my heart.” (The Vampire Lestat)

Not a day goes by where I do think of Claudia Eparvier (formerly De Lioncourt Du Lac) the love she never received and the way it appeared when she was no longer there, I think about her bloodlust and her ache to be full, her growth the fight she had to fight to actually claim her womanhood to be seen and heard and how little time she had with that feeling, I think about the love she found and how beautiful it was, how she was the most vampire to ever vampire, she got it when none of those self hating bastards did and considering how little time she had with it she speed ran that fucking shit.

Say what you will, but Claudia was always fucked. No matter what variables you take out, or add in, no matter what universe you put them in, she's ways stuck with Louis and Lestat for parents smh.

The whole "Claudia is now his sister"/Louis' sibling comparisons are never gonna sit right with me because that's never going to erase the fact that Claudia exists as a vampire partly because of him. Their relationship will never have this clearly defined role of siblings in the same manner Louis had with Grace or Paul, even if he was their older brother and was implicitly given the role of providing for them as the successor and manager of his family's estate. Because Louis was never responsible in part for their creation, the reason why they existed the way that they do in terms of behavior and life itself.
It also makes his betrayal of her all the more heartbreaking in ways that him and Grace drifting apart never will. He was her father, and didn't provide emotional support for her. She had to turn the tables and try to assume the role of being on an equal level because of this failure but this doesn't make him not choosing her any less painful than it did the first time. Even as they shift roles, take or give emotional responsibility one has towards the other, the fact that Claudia exists the way she does because of him and Lestat will always be there.
#interview with the vampire#claudia#louis de pointe du lac#it's why in a way Lestat's whole 'I am your maker' rant is relevant#not in terms of him trying to keep his veil of control over her#but in terms of how no matter how she tries to shift positions; switch roles#put on the costume of 'sister/companion/mother/knight'#she will always be on a lesser position than him or even Louis#because THEY are her parents#even on a physical level she's technically weaker because she's in the body of a teenager#her given role of daughter will never be shed; especially when both of them took to physically abusing her#and tbh I personally don't like acting as if Claudia having to take on the role of Louis' protector/therapist/sister#is a positive thing in any way#it's basically his own child being forced by circumstances to be the adult#and it's such a fucked up dynamic to me#i'm not saying Louis is responsible for that because he had his own issues and then there's Lestat who acerbates the whole situation#but consider it from Claudia's angle: she keeps Lestat away from Louis for SIX years#then Louis takes him back; and even tells her to get used to it and to try to be more open with her own abuser#all the while Claudia gives him nothing but understanding and time; pleads with him to run away together#i can't even start on how his betrayal of her after the attempted murder is not only the final nail of the coffin#but the only result she gets after emotionally supporting him throughout this entire situation#anyway no offense to anyone that makes Claudia/Grace/Paul edits in relation to Louis#it's just that even without the ep7 reveal the whole thing feels sour to me in episode 6#because that is very much not his sister/brother protecting him; that's his daughter#Claudia should not have to do this shit on her own; she should not have to assume another role just to be considered seriously#in any way by either Louis or Lestat

When are y’all going to realize that Claudia de Pointe du Lac/de Lioncourt is quite possibly the best embodiment of female rage in media ever. She’s robbed of a normal childhood, adulthood, or even a normal death without her consent. She is constantly belittled due to her age and appearance despite being an absolute genius, mastermind, and killing machine. She is surrounded by men and parental figures who she consistently has to watch make bad decisions for themselves and for her. She consistently defends people who do not do the same for her when the time comes. Jesus fucking Christ. Claudia, you deserve the world.

𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐀𝐍 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄.
𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐲 𝐱 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫
Tumblr media
Boat trips and beach days were your favourite thing to do on your days off in the summer. After winning the liga de campeonas y la liga your squad earned the weekend off before heading off to international duties for the copa del mundo.
“Pass me your phone.” Your girlfriend asked, disturbing you from your topless tanning session.
“Por qué?” You raised a brow at Mariona, reaching for your phone.
“Música.” She jokingly rolled her eyes, luckily you didn’t see through her sunglasses.
You reluctantly passed her your phone as she connected to the speaker playing your playlist. She laid back beside you taking her own top off.
The boat was quite far off the Marina so you were safe from any paparazzi. Your teammates on the other hand didn’t seem to care, Ona, Patri and Claudia were too busy jumping off the boat whilst Lucy was filming them.
“Can you put some sunscreen on my back please.” You looked up at Mariona with a toothy smile on your face.
She nodded in response asking you turn over. You loved it when Mariona put sunscreen on you, let’s just say she’s very good with her hands.
She positioned herself so she was sat on you bum, applying the sunscreen all around your back. Mariona traced your very defined trapezius muscle, running her fingertips over the tiny tattoos you had dotted around your back and neck.
“Cariño.” You mumbled.
“Is that good?” She whispered in your ear.
“Your always good.”
Mariona used the palm of her hand to knead your lower back embedding the lotion into your skin. You bit your lip hard to prevent yourself from moaning, “There mi corazón.”
“Gracias bebita.” You peppered kisses on her face.
You laid on your front so you could tan your back, Mariona loved watching you tan hence why she asked you to wear the smallest thong bottoms you had so she could secretly stare at your ass for the majority of the day.
“Coti x coti please Y/N.” Lucy shouted over to you.
“Vale Lucia.” You put your thumb up at her.
The other girls climbed back on the boat when they heard the music begin to play, dancing with each other. You turned it up louder, going over to join them dancing, dragging your girlfriend with you. You slung your arms around her neck as you sang to each other.
When you met Mariona through playing for España you automatically knew she was the girl of your dreams. Immediately you became friends, inseparable even when both at Barcelona and national camps.
You didn’t let it slide that you liked her like that however after you won the liga de campeonas the first time you confessed everything to her which lucky for you she felt the same way. Ever since then you’ve been together and you both don’t intend on breaking up either.
The music carried on playing and you were still dancing, Mariona’s hands on your hips that were swaying to the beat, her face becoming closer and closer to you your lips almost touching.
“Te quiero.” You mouthed as she connected her lips with yours.
Every time the both of you kissed your heart would explode. The softness of her lips were divine, her hand placements, how close your bodies were to each other was perfect, even better when it was skin to skin.
“Te quiero mucho.” She hummed.
You soon left her presence to get each other another beer, “San Miguel?” In which she nodded.
You opened the bottles handing her one as you sat back down on the boat. She laid in your arms, her head resting on your breasts as you watched Patri and Claudia bicker over who’s drink was who’s.
“If we win the copa del mundo, we will go to Mallorca for a week.” You suggested randomly.
“Sí, private beach resort.” Mariona added.
“And why is that, you want to see your parents no?”
“Sí but you can’t fuck me when they’re around.” Your girlfriend tutted.
“Ay! I mean i suppose not but we have to see them at some point i love your mama’s food.”
“Mhm me too.”
——————
Little did they know that it would come true.

No estoy seguro de esto.
(Not sure about this one).
Espero que disfrutes :)
(Hope you enjoy).

There's a lotta reasons why lestat and claudia resented and hated each other but I was thinking about how lestat and gabrielle's relationship likely played into that as well. He turned Gabrielle and then fell madly (and weirdly) in love with her, and developed a fucked up framework to understand vampire family dynamics, so when Claudia came along, he could probably see himself in her. Just took his own Oedipus complex and said 'actually, YOU have an Electra complex, and it's nothing to do with me! No siree, i have a NORMAL understanding of parent-child relationships. '
He said 'I hate you because you're trying to steal my husband (your father), the way I once stole my mother from her husband (MY father)' and he did not pause to consider that maybe he shouldn't have been making out with his mum in the first place
Gabrielle de lioncourt, I hope you're somewhere in the rainforest doing the work to better yourself. Lestat...should maybe just spend some time in the rainforest.

Capítulo 8
- Mafin rewatch (Sueños de Libertad)
Watching Fina with tears in her eyes trying to say sorry to Petra who accuses her of taking advantage of their friendship is pretty much as much fun as a Friday night of drinking pickle juice and giving yourself recreational papercuts. It has to count as a form of unusually cruel punishment. That look on Fina’s face however as realisation dawns, that Petra have been using her to get to the position at the store. The way you can see her go from sincere sorrow to sadness lined with righteous anger.
Tumblr media
Fina stage whispering “I’ll kill you” at Carmen as she’s called her dad because of her weird and inexplicable sickness. This friendship is a gem. Isidro as always cutting through the bullshit and calling Fina out on her faked illness. “I’m not six years old-” and the response of “well stop acting like you are”, but it’s not said in a condescending way, he just checks her on her behaviour. His words though, they work her over and before long he has her up and out of that bed, on her way to face her new job and the mistakes she’s made. Like I said, I get why Fina is the way she is and it's a lot to do with who Isidro is as a parent I think.
Claudia in the store babbling on about how most men are a bit of a scoundrel and Fina just straight up zoning out with as much subtly as a brick to the face. Gods, she really just fucking kills Tasio at every opportunity she gets. “You lost me at Tasio and noble” - she excuses herself when Claudia calls her back to reality. Fina never change.
Also Claudia, just listen to Fina. Sure she’s just had her heart broken by the manipulative snake in a dressing gown standing next to you, but she’s not wrong. There are a lot of people who will take advantage of others in the name of love, Tasio most surely would be one of them. Being heterosexual is not a valid excuse to be stupid, shape up Claudia.
Tumblr media
Am I a vindictive bitch, yes, but that does not stop me from taking great pleasure in the fact that Marta does not really see Petra, she just steamrolls right past her, but hiccups as her eyes land on Fina in that uniform. Yeah, I think this was actually the start. She continues her quest of being a harsh but fair mistress, telling Fina she’s not doing her any favours, but she expects hard and good work from her. Still though, that “you look different in the uniform” gets caught in her chest and seems to stumble from her lips in a most uncharacteristic way from the otherwise eloquent queen of keeping her shit together.
Tumblr media
Petra blackmailing Fina who despite all of it sort of stands her ground. Fina says she’s sorry, she didn’t mean to offend or overstep a boundary, but she doesn’t deny what she did, there are no excuses she tries to offer up. She owns the kiss even though she apologises for having read Petra’s intentions wrong. That takes some fucking courage, especially how she then calls Petra out on her unfair behaviour as she tries to blackmail Fina out of a job because of it. She is clearly scared of being found out, about the possibility of her father finding out, but at the same time she doesn’t grovel. She doesn’t even deny being a lesbian. This is the start of why I find her so refreshing as a character, especially in a period drama. Being gay, society and our upbringing often encourage us to be apologetic about our existence, many of us filled with internalised homophobia from a very young age through the intentional and subconscious acts of the straights around us who matter to us (and those we wish didn’t). Fina however, no. Fina apologises for her actions, which were misguided, but she does not apologise for the drive behind them. And as Petra blackmails her she is clearly worried, but mostly - well mostly she comes across as really fucking angry at the injustice of it all. She will not say sorry for being gay, but she will rage at the world for treating her unjustly because of it. That’s fresh. That’s why she very quickly has become one of my favourite fictional lesbians and a bit of a role model.
Tumblr media
We are not at fault, if the world can’t stomach us - then that is its problem, not ours.

the Interview with the Vampire kink meme continues to be everything
there's been a scorching HOT loustat fill today: The Interview
a bouquet of thanks to @vampire-dove for maintaining this anon kink meme for us.
i'm going to share some of the prompts going on over there. please go add more. please fill prompts. these vampires cry out to be put in Situations.
Prompts [5/?]:
Lestat de Lioncourt/Louis de Pointe du Lac Seduction, Vampire Turning, Drunk Sex, Marriage Proposal
"Parallel universe.
"In 1905, Parisian brothel owner Lestat de Lioncourt keeps his ungrateful brothers and father, and his frail mother, in comfort despite hating his life. When his new acquaintance, wealthy American Louis de Pointe du Lac, comes on so strong, he starts to think life could be different. There is an air of the preternatural about him, but Americans are probably just like that?
"Vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac searches for a new life in the old world and finds a handsome man with a most agreeable disposition who he wants to convince to become his companion. Life certainly wouldn't be boring."
--
Armand/Daniel Molloy
"Minimal or no Devil’s Minion before 2022. Armand turns Daniel out of spite, but Daniel takes to vampirism immediately and revels in his newfound strength and immense power. And Daniel is so psyched about this new un-life that he kisses Armand, who kisses him back passionately. He then fucks Armand all around the penthouse and gives him the best dick he’s had in centuries. Armand is terribly confused by this intense, feverish passion between them, over thinks it, and flees out of self-preservation. and naturally Daniel gives chase!"
--
Claudia/Madeleine, Lestat de Lioncourt/Louis de Pointe du Lac Alternate Universe - Royalty, Weddings, Competition
"Royal wedding au. Now that she's in her thirties, Claudia's parents are putting their foot down: as their only child, she will be inheriting the throne, and she's going to need a partner as strong as she is. They've lined up candidates. It's tradition.
"Claudia has never forgiven Lestat for not using his magic to bring back her first love, Charlie, years ago, but he hopes he can make amends by introducing her to a beloved fellow countrywoman from his homeland who was…exiled…for being…a traitor?? Louis wants to know what the fuck is wrong with Lestat's head."
--
Lestat de Lioncourt/Louis de Pointe du Lac Extremely Dubious Consent, Hallucinations, Episode: s02e01 What Can The Damned Really Say To The Damned? (Interview with the Vampire TV 2022)
"While traveling Europe with Claudia, Louis hallucinates(/fantasizes about?) Lestat forcing himself on him.
"Can be violent or just disturbing, can be physical assault (I know the hallucinations don't work like that but we can suspend our disbelief) or not include touching at all. Up to you how aware Louis is that the hallucination is his own mind torturing him. The important part is that Louis is really messed up and can only get off while also punishing himself. Bonus points for Lestat being in his bloody post-Mardi Gras outfit, throat slit and bleeding and all."
--
Armand/Lestat de Lioncourt Accidental Marriage, Accidental Bonding, Dubious Consent
"1795 AU. The Great Laws this, The Great Laws that. Magnus never told Lestat that when another vampire overpowers you with a bite soon after your turning, your body imprints on them and you become vampire-married.
"After Armand attacks Lestat at the party, Lestat finds himself craving sex with Armand against his will. He is determined to be strong! Gabrielle rolls her eyes a lot."
--
Louis de Pointe du Lac/ Oiginal Male Characters, Armand/Original Male Characters Serial Killers, Recreational Drug Use, Creampie, Felching, Rape/Non-con Elements, Service Submission, Under-negotiated Kink, Humiliation, Drugged Sex
"Louis gets lost in the high and never cleans up/finishes draining his hookups to kill them. Louis isn’t going to fuck him when he’s like this, but Armand dutifully cleans up Louis’s sloppy seconds to feel closer to his maitre.
"additional tags: unnegotiated bdsm, nonconsensual drugged sex (armand/louis’s half-dead hookups), nonconsensual blood drinking (armand/louis’s half-dead hookups)"
--
Lestat de Lioncourt/Louis de Pointe du Lac Pregnancy Kink, Crack Treated Seriously
"fantasy m/m non-omegaverse vampire au in which ppl of any sex can get pregnant if they're fertile and are someone who has a uterus because reasons!
"lestat can bear children. louis desperately wants kids. lestat and louis knew when they got married they were not on the same page: children were a hard no for lestat. not having them was a dealbreaker for louis. they really should've sorted that out before they eloped.
"years later louis has one foot out the door when lestat bitterly caves, to louis's single-minded delight. gabrielle and armand are quietly appalled.
"five times louis got his husband pregnant and one time lestat volunteered the idea.
"(i am begging you on my knees for this fic please and thank you)"

(AC wip) The Savage Price of Piety
it's desmond's deathday and i wrote like. 9,000 more words to this wip (first two parts here) last week and i want to brag about it, so happy deathday you wet bastard (mostly gen but with a surprise rarepair, time travel/reincarnation, found family, william miles’ a+ parenting, accidental subterfuge, desmond goes by miles mostly, inspired by study of flight by @esamastation but with a twist!, only somewhat historically accurate swears by which i mean probably not at all but leonardo had some Opinions alright) have some (three) chronological but scattered bits of scenes
“Oh,” Claudia says as soon as she opens the door, seeing Ezio’s rather wretched expression, “you’ve figured it out, then.”
“You could have told me,” he growls, following her into the entryway and closing the door behind himself.
Claudia scoffs, spinning on heel to lead the way further into the building for the kitchens. “I had one conversation with the boy, brother, I was hardly sure of it myself. Wait,” she halts and points a finger at him accusingly, “how did you figure it out?”
Ezio, quite graciously he thinks, ignores the subtle insult to his intelligence. Sighing, he pushes back his hood before their mother sees him with it on indoors, and runs a hand over his beard. “I had Leonardo visit.”
Claudia’s face slackens, before twisting into a rage that has Ezio stepping away warily.
But she punches the wall instead of her brother, a shouted “Gods damn it!” echoing in the narrow space. Then she spins on her heel and hollers further into the residential part of the bordello, “Mother! We forgot about Leonardo!”
Horrified by his sister and concerned for his mother’s current mental state, Ezio reaches out to put a hand on Claudia’s arm, but he doesn’t get the chance before Maria de' Auditore is shouting right back, “God damn it!”
Grumbling, Claudia stomps down the hall and leaves a very confused Ezio hurrying to follow; she ignores all his pleas for explanation until she’s stomped into the kitchen, where their mother is pouring two very large glasses of wine, with very little water to cut down the potency. She passes one to Claudia silently, and then they both drink, though luckily they aren’t attempting to down it all at once.
“I can’t believe we forgot the Maestro,” their mother mutters to herself as she comes over to kiss Ezio on both cheeks, before shoving the still mostly-full glass into his hands.
“Forgot him for what?” Ezio wants to know, clutching the glass like a mother clutches a babe.
“To test if Miles really is an Auditore.” It’s said so flippantly, like it doesn’t affect Claudia at all, but she also collapses into one of two chairs at the little tea table under the largest window. Their mother takes the other, massaging her forehead and looking like she’s grieving their family all over again.
It occurs to Ezio, as he moves to stand next to the table, that she probably is.
--
“It’s all up to you now, Seventeen.”
Desmond opens his eyes to the dark of the dormitory, faint moonlight cutting over the floor between his bed and Nino’s, and he can’t bring himself to move — even to roll off his arm that is very much still asleep.
  Clay still haunts him.
Five hundred fucking years, and his current twenty-four besides, and that fucker still won’t leave him alone. If Desmond were not so familiar with what an actual Bleed feels like, he’d almost think Clay is stuck in his brain the same way as his ancestors. Thank fuck he stopped Bleeding Ezio’s memories and feelings, while still retaining much of the training.
Fuck, time travel is so weird.
Or, reincarnation? He’s not sure of much, but he’s sure he was dead, he’s sure he burned, and he’s sure that though his 15th century mother had affectionately called him [redacted], his name is Desmond Miles.
Or just Miles, he supposes. Sue him, he panicked when Adele first approached him, and the best aliases are ones you know you’ll respond to, right? If only he’d have had the forethought to divorce himself from his... future family’s surname.
It sounds different enough with an Italian accent that it hasn’t caused any problems, yet. Like making him flinch. Or snapping that he hasn’t been a Miles since he was sixteen.
Granted, he still has no idea what he would go by instead. Altaïr and Conner would feel weird, while Sef or Darim are just a bit on the nose, and does he look like an Edward? Malik, maybe. His grandmother here, now, is actually from the Levant, so his skin is certainly dark enough that people wouldn’t be surprised by the name.
Except that feels almost akin to naming himself Leonardo.
--
So instead, Leonardo spends every spare moment with his best friend, sometimes to brainstorm, sometimes to simply be there for him. It’s during one of these visits, he and Ezio once again observing the youngest assassins in the training ring, that he hears Miles laugh for the first time, and it’s as if ice water has been poured directly into his veins.
Oh fuck. Oh Saints, oh Holy Father, oh fuck.
“Leonardo?” Ezio asks quietly, head tilted towards him in concern, but Leonardo ignores him to stumble for the bannister to lean over it and stare down at Miles learning a little jig from Tullio, laughing all the while.
He had only heard it once, truth be told, and it had been Salaí that had caused it, but even three years later, Leonardo remembers the laugh of Rodrigo Borgia’s sinister little shadow.
Below, Miles doesn’t stop smiling, but his golden brown gaze yanks up towards Leonardo as if knowing his thoughts are about him. His eyes narrow, then widen slightly in realisation, and then he winces and looks away, which is all the confirmation Leonardo needs.
Turning around, Leonardo grabs a confused Ezio by the arm and drags him from the training room, ignoring his protests until they find the nearest empty room.
  “Leonardo, what—?”
  “Romulus.”

Do you think Viren will follow Callum’s arc if Callum follows Viren’s?
Not precisely in either case.
I think either S5 or S6 (the Tragedy Seasons, if you will) will eventually have Callum do some fucked up / terrible thing for the people he loves. Could be a dark magic attempt, could be something related to the cube (his paranoia leading him to chasing it too far to make it a weapon) - something along those lines where the people he loves is more important to him "than anyone or anything" (Callum's Tales of Xadia bio) and are his Primary Motivation above anything else. That to me is the Viren-esque quality that's going to come to the forefront and lead him to play into Aaravos' hands, either leading to him being brainwashed into it, or breaking free of the brainwashing or still being coerced. But I don't think S5 and/or S6 can really end any other way, given that we know that defeating Aaravos has to come in S7.
Part of this is also due to Callum's seasons long parallels to Claudia in personality ("You're going to be better now - that's all that matters"), his parallels to Rayla ("going to dark places and making hard choices is an act of love. It's a gift"), and to Terry ("I had to. I couldn't let him hurt you"). The theme of people doing terrible things for love is something that basically the entire main cast is either already embroiled in an arc for, or has already come to pass (hi Soren in 3x09 and Harrow in 3x06) and I don't see why Callum would be any different. Tests of love and all that.
For Viren, I think he'll have a mix of Callum and Viren's arcs going forward. In S2, as a result of 2x07, Soren and Callum are both injured/ill and have epiphanies regarding their lives in 2x08; Soren verbally expresses his, while Callum symbolically sleeps through his in dreams. Viren was already having some of their arcs in S4 (retracing his and Callum's steps, asking to let go, rejecting dark magic; having the emotional ramifications steamrolled over by Claudia and her physically 'fixing' the situation). I don't think there'd be much of a point in keeping him alive this long if there wasn't a turning point of atonement for him.
Which, now that I'm thinking about it, Viren trying and then going back to dark magic would fit a parallel of Callum 'relapsing' (for lack of a better term) as well in a future season, as his VA Jack De Sena has readily teased, but we'll have to see.
I do think they're more of a switch pair - Viren ending arc 1 in a terrible place (falling) and Callum in a good one (flying) with arc 2 being the opposite, of Callum being in the worst place and Viren in a better one (also means Viren can mostly be a supplement and/or have relationship development with other characters in s6/s7 whereas Callum as the main protag will always have more of an Internal thing going on regardless) is likely, than say, Claudia and Rayla, who tend to operate a bit more in tandem (S3 both ends with them exiled; they're both knowingly reunited with mages they've missed terribly who are far more caught off guard and refuse to consider letting those mages die in S4; are wanting to or trying to save their parents in S5 etc).
It also means that S6 could be about Soren&Viren saving Claudia (in ways she's always been saving/preserving them) and Ezran&Callum (particularly if Ez is working through a Runaan adjacent rift) saving Rayla.

ok, so in this one fic that i'm gonna write, Louis and Lily are going to be Claudia's biological parents. just bc i wanna. but then i had this thought:
what if they actually were?
Tumblr media
From what we know of the shows timeline Claudia is born in 1903. Papa de Pointe du Lac (I refuse to call him Daddy du Lac bc what the internet did to the word daddy. like, I'm from the south y'all. That's what I call my dad/father/old man. Or dickhead occasionally, but like, affectionately. Whoops, I'm rambling.) dies sometime in 1905.
I can imagine he's been sick for awhile, if only because the de Pointe du Lac's seem like the kind of family to have enough money to afford pro-longed health care. Hold on a sec.
26. That's the number you're wondering about, btw. How old Louis would be when Claudia was born. I know some of y'all might be trying to do the mental math, and imma save you bc math is evil. (we aren't supposed to tell you this working in education, but it's just like the worst. you have to stack numbers in your head and think about only one thing for a really long time--and i'm adhd in case you couldn't tell.)
Anyway, back to where I was. Up until a certain point, Louis could put off having had a serious girlfriend, or been seen visiting the brothels. First off, he's a good Catholic boy, so he gets a little leeway. And of course, there's Paul he's gotta look after. Then his daddy gets sick, so he's got shit to manage.
But a certain point he starts to feel overwhelmed, and he's at that age where he expected to start looking to settling down. So he does what all men at that age do to let off steam, and he gets a sex worker.
maybe there was something special about lily at the get go, or maybe louis just chose at random. but he got lily and they fucked. it might have been a sad sort of fucking, but you know, louis gave it his best. (he might even have enough enough of a gentleman to see that they had a happy ending. it's just the polite thing to do.)
and maybe he decides to really vent about what's bothering him. and the sex was meh, but the talking was nice. and over time, they faze out the fucking portion altogether. and lily becomes more than just a sex worker he pays for companionship, but a confessor, a priest to confess to all that he can't to his other.
but claudia could have been conceived during one of those earlier visits where louis like, had to establish his straightness. it would have been easy to hide in the early months before lily started to show. and she could have easily said another client got her pregnant. But like, in the hypothetical, she could have been pregers with louis' baby, birthed it and left it with whatever family member she could get to take it. aka the mean auntie.
(now like, irl, she'd be like, grabbing this opportunity by the throat. but this is the hypothetical, so roll with me.)
lily wouldn't want to tell louis she was pregnant with his child. she thought he'd try to 'do the right thing' and marry her, and the idea of her and her child being looked down upon by the rest of the family disgusted her. so she never told him. but by then she probably figured out louis was gay, and she did not want to be his beard indefinitely, having to stay all loyal and true to louis while he fucked guys
so like papa du lac dies and now lily can't just pop out like, surprise, i'm his baby mama. except you know, in the slang for the era. so lily keeps claudia hidden. and means to eventually one day tell louis.
(and you know, being the only girl that Louis sees, people probably see him as like his--jfc, idk how to convert this from trailer trash, but it's like where if you're with a guy and living together so many years legally you're married. except you're not it's just about--nope. I'm not going do it and go off on a tangent. Anyway, it's like whatever the cultural approximation is to that.)
but then there's this white french dude sniffing around her man who isn't technically her man but she's the closest thing to a therapist he's got and is also his trailer-trash-wife. so like, she analyzes the threat and works out the situation. Claudia can be Louis' daughter he never knew about. Lily can be his kept woman, or she could take some money and run away. It depended on whether he wanted Claudia to himself and lestat, or if he wanted to share with her. or if he wants claudia at all.
she lestat reads her mind when he visits her one night, and is like, fuck i do not want to have kids. so he kills her bc hey, if she's dead, no problem. (or maybe he vamps her in agreement that she never see louis again and goes somewhere far away to start a new life. i know it doesn't make sense, but i like to imagine a world where lily lived. escapism is fun sometimes)
is this theory insane? yes? but is it impossible? no!

(I use this as reference a lot. But mostly the pdf version i have downloaded bc my internet is a fickle bitch sometimes. So it's probably, like behind on updates with the new trailers.)

Note
I don't think Lestat dragging Claudia back was really about her considering in ep5 he's fully glad she's gone ("an anvil tied around our ankles', 'remember how happy we were before'), he wants to disassemble her room and leave town with Louis, and even when she comes back he's like okay when are you leaving again please. I get that in the books there is more of a paternal attachment to her but I just don't think we've seen that to be the case on the show (yet?). I think he just remembers what life was like w/ Louis the last time she was gone and it was not ideal for him.
do recall in the show lestat & louis relationship was on a boiling point before louis found claudia, so any rumination lestat has for ~the old days~ before claudia is just his delusion. mr. lets fuck& make this race riot our anniversary day de lioncourt 🪦🪦🪦 i think in the books theres a weird paternal/maternal element cuz novel lestat lingers at first like a distant patriarch over this very small child claudia but then regales over claudia being his dark death like an abusive mother talking about her badass bebe kid of a daughter lol. u can see where rice pivoted from louis as her id to lestat as her muse, her id there. & id argue there was a paternal attachment in the show, lestat does act like the fun dad/uncle but the idea of fun aint dave & busters but teaching her the ~art~ of how to hunt, kill & feed on random human beings. grabs her chin& warns her of the evil predatory ways of the older vampires in europe& how theyd tear her little self apart or something like that. its a very rough&tumble, cruel, break my daughter so nobody else can break her type of parenting he has. his later resentment of her is deeply tied to a father’s resentment of a runaway child, he refers to her as a child stepping out of her place & interfering with the romantic lives of adults. the prodigal daughter - after all ive done for u, this is how u repay me? type logic. this is an oedipal tension, between a dad who wants his child to stay in a child’s place , who wants to deny that claudia is an adult woman (in her 30s by now). bc his only other reference for what a parent’s relationship to their adult child is layered w all type of psychosexual fuckery. lestat sees himself in claudia, and sees gabrielle in louis, and it makes him resentful. if he casts her out, forgets she exists, he can bury all these complicated feelings & focus on louis. its easier to be a lover than it is to be a father& i think this is wym by books cuz in books lestat was the one who wanted to turn claudia, but in show louis begs lestat to turn claudia. louis is the one who wanted to be a parent, lestat saw claudia at first as a means to trap louis either way u cut it, grows to care for her & grows to resent her. the revenge is claudia trying to break from being their child, vs. lestat wanting to keep her infant death for all eternity

reblog b/c what is brevity, as usual
Compromise was a significant turning point for me and has retroactively affected how actively I look for/at inter-vampire dynamics in media. I feel like a lot of my favorite vampire narratives are vampire/mortal dynamics, and many of them are the seduction of a mortal in a way that feels an aborted precursor to vampire-making; still love that trope, but I'm more invested in the aftermath having read your fiction & being exposed to your vampire attachment theory tag!
My prior landmark was Interview with the Vampire, first few books & 1994 film particularly; Louis, Lestat, and Claudia specifically; other parts didn't seep into by subconscious in the same way re: setting my expectations for ... how these relationships probably functioned, I guess? Namely that the act of vampire creation is probably multi-step (murder + transformation), therefore the relationship is always violent + creative, and the door is easily opened to complicated dynamics like two different people filling the two different/interconnected roles.
Then Hemlock Grove (book and show), which I find less pivotal but more a take on it I hadn't seen. Vampirism is inherited but also transformational: the vampire comes of age and into their full powers via suicide. Roman's mother is his literal parent, but also architects the series of events that lead to that transformative death/rebirth, but the act itself is autonomous and self-wrought. I like the circularity, there, but don't know that I think a lot about it in context of other vampire narratives.
I love the Spike/Angel/Drusilla dynamic in BtVS, but didn't think a lot about vampire attachment theory in BtVS until I started writing fic for Tara/vamp!Willow. I don't know if "my own unfinished fic" is a useful answer to your question, but digging into vamp!Willow meant feeling around for my gut answers to a lot of the throwaway, half-assed lore in BtVS (positive, affectionate, I don't really mind it plays fast and lose with worldbuilding): how a personality transforms when losing the soul/becoming a demon; what differentiates a sire/fledgling relationship which is a lifelong bond from make-your-own-minion. Dru offers the most insight into most of these questions IMO, and I pay a lot of attention to her when rewatching.
And lately I've been playing the soloRPG Elegy, which is heavily inspired by Vampire: The Masquerade, but I don't have much first-hand experience with VtM so Elegy is my touchstone instead. Anyway, it uses a modified version of VtM'S Blood Bond mechanic, called a blood link: drinking a vampire's blood creates affection for that vampire, in three stages: 1) wish to impress or be accepted by; 2) care deeply about and go out of your way to aid; 3) a deep emotional connection, loyalty, dependency - and at this rank you are immune to all other blood links. As a result, every new vampire (thus player character) begins with a blood link to their progenitor, and this is the only relationship that must exist at the start of the game. From the guide: "The linked constantly feels artificial love and loyalty, even if simultaneously hating the provider. Many progenitors create blood links with their children to control them, and many queens impose them on criminals." This de facto story hook, which is intentionally fucked up, has a stranglehold on my playthrough in a good way. The repercussions are probably pretty obvious (if blood sharing is also a form of intimacy, then it comes at an incredible cost; the progenitor/progeny dynamic opens with an inherent power imbalance), but the fact that it's externalizing into a game mechanic, and within the inherently id-wallowy/self-inserty roleplay that comes with an RPG, has transformed my views on and focus on and love for inter-vamp dynamics.
I know I asked a version of this question a while ago, but I am curious again, so:
Would love to hear your paradigmatic examples of texts (books, movies, tv, fic for any fandom, whatever) handling questions of what I like to call vampire attachment theory (tag) - vampires' relationships with their makers/sires, with their vampire siblings, etcetera.
I would be interested to hear about texts which either shaped your own perception on this topic or that you think do something specific and interesting with it; specific details or examples of character relationships are welcome.
