re8 as classical music
badly explained cause its 2am and i dont know musical terms.
Btw if anyone has any notes or other songs that would fit them id love to see it-
Ethan: Tchaikovsky - Marche Slave
youtube
Slow start, Ethan is unknowingly ensnared in a trap. As he realizes the danger Rose (and himself) are in the song becomes tragic and determined. Fastpaced strings, frantic beats —like prey escaping from predator— keeps escalating into something more and more insurmountable. A hopeful jingle is heard as Ethan finds out he can still save his daughter. A heroic theme plays as he overcomes the horrors despite it all (a sense of control over the situation is marked by highpitched anxious flutes superimposed by a deep stable horn). Then comes the first faceoff with Miranda who taunts him and Ethan’s tragic hero theme comes to a grinding halt as his heart gets pulled out of his chest. The drums pick up again and the little soldier is off to his final battle.
Mia: Claude Debussy - Clair De Lune
youtube
Sadly the real Mia doesn’t appear much. In the Winters home, Ethan writes that Mia doesn’t want to talk about what they went through in Louisiana, which leaves him with a lot of questions unanswered. In the flashback where she desperately tries reaching out saying ‘𝘺𝘰𝘶 matter’, she still can’t help keeping secrets- maybe out of fear that Ethan wouldn’t let it go (being extremely persistent) and they’d never return to normal. The song is heartbreaking and sad as she struggles coming to terms with the guilt and grief over what she’s done and what the one she loves went through because of it. On a last somber note, her child, who takes after her father both in looks and unresolved powers, is all she has left.
Rose: Saint-Saëns - Le Cygne
youtube
A little girl whos only ever known unconditional, all encompassing love. Even before her birth, it was known that her life would be full of uncertainty. Though stolen away for possessing powers she’s not even aware of yet, she continues to live and provide a beacon of hope for her family.
Chris: Richard Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries
youtube
Comes in the dead of night and rains hell on the Winters home. In his eyes, he’s doing the right thing, but has made himself the villain to the one he was trying to protect (victorious trumpets superimposed by high fearful strings). The transport gets intercepted by Miranda and the music falls. Once Chris finally explains himself to Ethan they’re allowed a brief bit of victory (steadier horn) as their combined efforts take down Miranda’s last line of defense (Heisenberg). In the end, Chris has to live with the victory of taking down the megamycete, the guilt and grief over Ethan’s death/sacrifice, and the troubling news from BSAA. A tainted victory.
Alcina: Tchaikovsky - Swan Lake
youtube
Appears first as a noble elegant socialite. She’s at the height of her power, owns a castle and three daughters and believes herself to be Miranda’s favorite. It’s business as usual, calm serene music. Suddenly an outsider has made his way into her home, killing her daughters one by one. She reaches out to Miranda, who only cares about the stupid ceremony, and realizes everything she knew was a lie. Anger and frustration builds. The music deepens, falls and rises again as she transforms, tries taking revenge on Ethan and fails, having lost everything in one evening.
Bela, Cassandra, Daniela: Rimsky Korsakov - Flight of the Bumblebee
youtube
Self explanatory. Hurried, manic and playful.
Donna: Tchaikovsky - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
youtube
Entrancing but with eerie insidious undertones. Fitting for the childlike dollmaker and her little porcelain friends. Ends with a fast and chilling theme for the twisted game of hide and seek
Moreau: Edvard Grieg - Hall of the Mountain King
youtube
Quiet, lumbering and slow. Ethan takes the Rose flask back easily; threatened with losing Mother Miranda it very quickly escalates as panic sets in and Moreau throws everything he has at him. The music swells and ends with a bang.
Karl: Aram Khachaturian - Masquerade Suite
youtube
A bold start. Right from the beginning he exudes arrogance, charisma and danger. He plays nice in front of Miranda with a waltz that picks up in intensity when putting Ethan through his first gauntlet. Then the tone gets deeper and quieter for a moment, as he plots in secret; it’s finally time to set his plan in action. It’s a race to the finish line as Ethan tears through the other lords, unknowingly playing right into Miranda’s plan. Realizing he could be a particularly useful asset/ally, Heisenberg puts him through the second gauntlet. The music is sadistically playful as he tests his will and endurance. Upon failing to recruit Ethan, the music picks up for the third gauntlet and ends with a bang, as Karl dies at the hands of Miranda.
Duke: Georges Bizet - Votre Toast
youtube
A friendly face unfitting in a place such as this. The upbeat and energetic theme sticks out like a sore thumb among the others. Whimsy and grandiosity acts as a brilliant facade for his enigmatic true nature. Though the jolly merchant schtick may be a lie, he always delivers on service.
Miranda: Sergei Prokofiev - Dance of the Knights
https://youtu.be/bBsKplb2E6Q?si=jnSpMO-bIhEcjJzb
Immediately imposes a sense of authority and dread. The dark theme plays over and over as she performs the same cruel experiments expecting different results, though it only succeeds in remowing her further from humanity. She imagines a world of pure bliss in acquiring her child, which at this point is as illusory as chasing the holy grail since she’s never satisfied. When she hears of Rose she schemes her way into the Winters home, elated to find the perfect vessel after a century of searching. She steals the child away, leaving behind a trail of destruction that finally catches up to her.

"Hey, Teach! If you help me with my greenhouse duty, then I'll make it worth your while" Claude winked, nudging over to the small tree, glistening it's yellow skin in the soft sunlight. From past experiences, Mailyth didn't exactly fancy the idea of taking something grown by Claude. "Knowing him... it's probably some fruit that has the ability to leave you in the bathroom for da- never mind actually." she thought to herself. "Relax" Claude said, gently picking a fruit and biting into the flesh. He could sense doubt in her eyes. Almost from the first moment he met her, he studied her closely. She grew from a blank unexpressive doll, to now a glowing beacon whenever she smiled. While she was still an enigma to Claude, he could read his Teach a lot better than most. "Fine, alright." Mailyth sighed. She always found it hard to say no to Claude after all, especially when he knew how to persuade her with food.

An Analysis on my Favorite Ship of all time. (It's Edelclaude. Duh.)
Let's think a little about this relationship, shall we? But first, we need to establish who the two of them are before we can go deeper into what they could have been.
Let's start with Edelgard. Here's what I think of Edelgard: She's an impossibly determined individual. Think about it- No matter what choice Byleth/Shez makes, nothing can make her leave her ideals behind. It would take nothing more than death to stop her, and I suspect that would hold true even if she lost everything- She would build up her own army, without the support of the empire, seeking like-minded individuals across Fodlan. However, despite how dedicated she seems to waging war, she's still an incredibly caring and even trusting person, which is what leads to her so often disagreeing with Hubert's murder attempts. For example: Despite all the red flags that Shez shows, she continually lets them keep their high-standing rank. This is a decision Hubert majorly disagrees with, yet she repeatedly reaffirms her trust in them, and, fortunately for her, Shez is The Protagonist, and therefore does not betray her. She's also quite the excellent judge of character. She's able to peg Claude for being smarter than he acts pretty quickly. But she is quick to judge if somebody is too dedicated to the Church or the Noblility system. She appreciates hard work, and people who are willing to choose an ideal and stick by it. Edelgard is very sure in her identity, except for how she's an optimist trying to be a pessimist. Now, here's something that I think some people may disagree with- Edelgard is terrible at seeing consequences. That's a pretty wild thing to say, but hear me out- While all her talk of permanently removing the crest system is big, and she does have plans to do it, she doesn't seem to realize that: A. Waging a war won't make her very popular, and will thus make people- Even smart and understanding ones- less likely to listen to her; B. Forcefully imposing her changes won't last very long, as the moment somebody who doesn't agree with them comes into power, they'll just change them to fit their ideals in such a way that they can't be changed back; C. Destroying the Church of Seiros cuts off a massive source of supplies for a massive chunk of the continent, and alienates all of the believers who may have potentially supported her; D. Denouncing the Church of Seiros also counts as denouncing all the good they do, meaning orphanages, refugees, and much more. She actively sabotages her own war and ideals without realizing, and doesn't realize because the full scope of the consequences never cross her mind. Her whole spiel about 'the deaths will be worth it in the end' is a perfect example of that- What if she fails? What happens then?
Now for Claude. Here's what I think of Claude: Paranoid. Incredibly paranoid. But people already know that- It's a pretty obvious fact about him, and one of the first things we learn about him. So, let's go a bit more in-depth. Claude is ambitious. He sees powerful opponents and society's views as obstacles to overcome, but his morals can be offset by seeing people as obstacles as well. Speaking of Morals, Claude isn't as steadfast in his morals than most people think. While he sees killing as something that should only really be done when necessary, that idea is worn down over the course of the war, but only if Byleth isn't present. Do remember, Shez isn't quite the beacon of morality and perfect support that Byleth is. Claude is also a fantastic judge of character- Even better than Edelgard, in my opinion. For example, he sees the potential in Hilda despite her rampant racism, though he does sometimes make assumptions based on preconceptions, like when he assumes Cyril knows his true identity. Claude, unlike Edelgard, is uncomfortable in his identity, and similarly enough, is a pessimist trying to be a realist.
All that to say this: Claude and Edelgard go very well together, encourage each other's positive traits, and help to reduce their negative traits. Edelgard is a trusting individual. Claude is not. She would either allow him- or force him- to open up to more people than he normally would. Claude, meanwhile, would help to keep Edelgard's morals in check. In all of the routes Byleth is not present to keep her in check, Edelgard's morals degrade- But none as much as Azure Moon, where Edelgard's greatest rival, aka Dimitri, claims Byleth for his class. In the long-term, she ends up allowing more Agarthan assistance into her army and the Empire, and doing more morally-dubious things. Essentially, without the help of a steady hand, she'll slowly degrade in morality. Now, before, I mentioned that Claude's morality would degrade similarly- However, that wasn't all of it. In Golden Wildfire, when everyone tells him off for letting Randolph die, he immediately thanks them all for letting him know, and tries to correct his behavior. So long as he has somebody to let him know, he'll try his hardest to keep hold of his morals- And Edelgard is the perfect benchmark. Any time she'd make a morally dubious action, he'd be there to correct her. As for ambitions and ideals- Both of them are surprisingly similar in that regard! Claude is much more focused on the specifics, while on the other hand, Edelgard is a much more wide thinker. He sees the trees, she sees the forest. He helps her see the consequences in every act. Also they understand and help each other heal from their traumas :) I have more to say but this is already long enough, and I think I got most of my point across: Edelclaude is great.

The Resilient Spirit of Haiti: From Revolution to Modern Struggles
Tumblr media
Haiti’s history is a testament to the resilience and courage of its people. From the first successful slave revolt that led to its independence to the complex and often turbulent politics of the modern era, Haiti has faced challenges with a spirit of resistance and a desire for sovereignty.
The Dawn of Freedom
The journey to independence was marked by the legendary Haitian Revolution against France. Beginning in 1791, enslaved Africans on the island rose against their colonizers, leading to a brutal war. Under leaders like Toussaint L’Ouverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and Henri Christophe, Haiti declared independence in 1804, becoming the first black republic to free itself from the shackles of slavery. This victory was not just a local triumph but a beacon of hope for oppressed peoples everywhere.
The Price of Liberty
However, freedom came at a cost. France demanded reparations for the loss of its colony and the slaves who had been freed, imposing a crippling debt on the new nation. Haiti agreed to pay France 150 million francs, a sum that significantly hampered its economic development for generations. This debt to France, later reduced to 90 million francs, was akin to a punishment for daring to take a stand against oppression, a yoke that Haiti carried well into the 20th century.
External Interferences and Internal Struggles
The United States and other powers have also played roles in Haiti’s post-independence struggles. The U.S. military occupation from 1915 to 1934, under the guise of stabilizing the nation, saw the extraction of significant financial resources, including the transfer of $500,000 to create what would become Citigroup. This period also set a precedent for international interference in Haiti’s affairs.
Leaders such as François “Papa Doc” Duvalier and his son Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier ruled Haiti through decades of dictatorship, marked by repression and human rights abuses. The democratic election of Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 1990 represented a glimmer of hope, but his presidency was marred by coups and controversy, reflecting the ongoing struggle for stable governance in the face of external manipulation.
The Assassination of Jovenel Moïse
The assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021 plunged Haiti into deeper turmoil. Conspiracy theories abound regarding the motives behind his murder, with some suggesting that Moïse’s attempts to challenge foreign and domestic elites’ control over Haiti’s resources led to his downfall. His death and the subsequent installation of Ariel Henry as Prime Minister have been viewed by many as yet another instance of foreign interference, with Henry labeled by some as an “international puppet.”
The Rise of Jimi "Barbecue" Cherizier
Amidst this backdrop, a new figure has emerged: Jimi “Barbecue” Cherizier. Viewed by his supporters as a revolutionary fighting for the rights of the Haitian people, Cherizier’s rise symbolizes the latest chapter in Haiti’s long history of resistance against external domination and internal corruption. However, his portrayal in the international media as a gang leader underscores the ongoing narrative battles that shape perceptions of Haiti’s struggle for sovereignty and justice.
Conclusion
Haiti’s history is rich and complex, filled with episodes of incredible bravery and grave injustices. The nation’s journey from the world’s first black republic to its current state reflects a broader struggle for autonomy, justice, and dignity. While the future remains uncertain, the enduring spirit of the Haitian people suggests that their fight for a fairer, more equitable nation continues unabated.

The soft muffled peace of the desert, offering space to reflect, reminded me that this was the halfway point of my journey. So far, collisions between food, people and places had been plentiful. But what had I learned? That Tashkent was changing at a rate far quicker than I had realised, and that some of the most valuable parts of the city - filled with tiny bakeries, old mud-walled houses and a million stories - was being systematically reduced to rubble, and was set to scale down further still. Later in the journey, this blow-down theme would continue apace in Samarkand, the Fergana Valley, and in Dushanbe. Paired with rapid development, tourism, striding ever quicker on the old Silk Road, may eventually destroy the very things that it set out to see.
Histories I’d not paid attention to before had been revealed and demanded attention: how hungry and repressed avant-garde artists of Uzbekistan and Russia had painted the food they longed to eat; how small domestic items belonging to women held in gulags were not inanimate objects but precious beacons of hope and memory; how milk was not only the food of nomads but a symbol central to Kazakhstan’s identity. And I found that the newspapers were right: fishing is slowly returning to the northern section of the Aral Sea.
Then, there was the sheer glee of food, often pressed generously into my hands as gifts and welcomes, that told its own stories: I couldn’t have hoped for a more alluring konditorei than Krendel in Pavlodar, nor a better dinner on the Caspian Sea in Aktau, or a more restorative breakfast spot in Tashkent - edible treasures, all, experiences that could have been easily passed over by someone in a rush, but that with time paint a different, more flavorful, picture of this often misunderstood region. Food, as the anthropologist, Claude Lvi-Strauss, said, is ‘good to think with’.

Season 2 but it's only when Alois is around
so I just finished rewatching season 2! I made TO THE SECOND time stamps of every time Alois Trancy appears on screen (as well as a few other notable things, such as when the explicit/violent parts happen, when Luka appears, and a few lines that were worth mentioning). here is your Tumblr Alois Stan Season 2 Survival Guide! While it's not everything (I didn't write down the post-mortem Hannah eyeball scene) it is 95% of the Alois content in that season!
This was using the version currently avaliable on Netflix. if the season has been cropped or altered on other streaming sites, I don't know how helpful this guide will be! sorry about that! Also, while I tried my best to warn potentially triggering subject matter, and I'm pretty sure I got all of it, I am not 100%, so if you're going to rewatch the season, please get in a headspace where you know, there is a small chance you might see something. The worst, however, has been caught
Tumblr media
TIMESTAMPS FOR THE CSA
EP#1 CLAWED BUTLER -- 0:00-1:14
EP#8 DIVULGING BUTLER -- 9:06-10:36, 12:36-13.59 18.35-18.46
EP#9 HOLLOW BUTLER -- 16:43-16:57
Episode 5-7 have a lot of Alois scenes, but nothing in relationship to his trauma, so if you want an entirely 'safe' and non-triggering viewing, those are your best bet! Episode 1 is also fine, if you start it directly after the opening
Tumblr media
TMESTAMPS FOR OTHER DISCOMFORTS
If I were to try to keep track of all of this, then the list would be extensive and long BUT in regards to Alois in particular, a few scenes did jump out at me as being potentially a little ... weird
EP#1 CLAWED BUTLER --
9:27-9:42 (Druitt says something weird and pervy)
EP#8 DIVULGING BUTLER --
0:00-2:02 (Nothing explicit, but he is naked, bandaged, and the camera is...you know how the camera is. Some weird dialogue too, between him and Hannah and Claude. It's nothing too bad)
3:39-4:31 (The Hannah scene. Some people told me they were uncomfortable with the way he tackled her, even if it was just the camera being a little weird)
(If the triggering stuff really bothers you, just don't want Divulging Butler, that episode was...weird)
Tumblr media
LIVE LUKA REACTION
EP#8 DIVULGING BUTLER -- 5:02-9:04
EP#9 HOLLOW BUTLER -- 11:45-13:15
EP#11 CROSSROADS BUTLER -- 14:58-16:25
EP#12 BLACK BUTLER -- 12:05-12:28

ACTUAL TIMESTAMPS
It'll take ages to jot these down, so here are the pictures of the notes I was taking. Every time Alois Trancy was on screen, I took note of it

Uhhh fun fact my therapist called me halfway through and I had to write down a number. That's what that scribbled out thing is. Haha...oh, if only she knew...

ALOIS OUTFITS
Also, as per something @hateweasel said, I decided I had to keep track of what outfits he was wearing throughout the episodes. And I can proudly say the little shorts only show up in episode 1, 2 minutes in episode 5, all of the scenes of him in the present in Episode 8, and all of the scenes of him in Ciel's mind palace in episode 12. So about 20 minutes total. This is out of the approximate 50 minutes of Alois Time in the series, with his other outfits cycling in at the maid dress, the devil costume, his normal outfit but with trousers, and then Ciel's outfit while he's possessing him, and then his clothes as a kid.

Here is a diagram. I made up those numbers. I could have added it second by second, and that was my plan, and I started, but it was really really boring
Tumblr media
NOTABLE LINES
Some things I just found funny
EP#1 CLAWED BUTLER - Druitt says 'Among us' at 9:55
EP#5 BEACON BUTLER - Alois licks Ciel at 15:34-15:40. It should be noted he spends like 10 seconds proceeding that playing with Ciel's hair and Ciel DOES NOT pull away from him or even seem that disturbed. Huh.
EP#7 DEATHLY BUTLER - There's these shots as the two butlers fight each other where they show the boys reacting. We get 'live Lois reaction' at 6:12, 6:19, 7:39, 9:01, 10:18,10:38, 11:27
In the same episode, the piss line is at 15:23-15:50
EP#9 HOLLOW BUTLER - Ciel actually says he feels regret after Alois dies. This is at 10:10.
Alois's village is also revealed to be called Arachnophile. Ah.
Alois is dead at 20:39
EP#11 CROSSROADS BUTLER - while possessing the body of Ciel Phantomhive, Alois actually tries to hurt himself. It's kind of painful to watch. This occurs at 6:23-6:59, 11:57-13:07
EP#12 BLACK BUTLER - Alois speaks last at 12:05

"Oh Claude, did you want some tea? I also have sweets. One of our members was kind of enough to get me some," Cera held her teacup and looked at the plate of sweets.
[ The ongoing war the Leicester Alliance was in wasn’t easy to uphold–there were many political decisions Claude was left to uphold and steadiness in place, and the littlest of swaying the wrong way could spell disaster for all of Fódlan. It was a terrifying balancing act, walking on a thin tightrope that didn’t seem to have an end in sight. Thankfully, he was the man for the job, but that didn’t mean it didn’t stress him out. His thoughts were consumed with these dire matters, so he didn't say no when he was walking around the Monastery to find Cera at the gazebo. He needed a break, lest he would lose stability and fall into the abyss as the only chance of his dreams would also fall off. Plus, Cera was always a charming character he needed to learn more about, so he couldn’t say no to that either. It was a win-win situation for him! ]

“Teach? Ha, you know me so well~” [ he teased with his usual smirk, ] “Mind if I take fifteen with you?” [ as he pulled the chair on the opposite side out and took a seat across from her; ready to take every note he could mentally. ] “Got any interesting topics recently piquing your interest?”
