Ethan: Tchaikovsky - Marche Slave

Slow start, Ethan is unknowingly ensnared in a trap. As he realizes the danger Rose (and himself) are in the song becomes tragic and determined. Fastpaced strings, frantic beats —like prey escaping from predator— keeps escalating into something more and more insurmountable. A hopeful jingle is heard as Ethan finds out he can still save his daughter. A heroic theme plays as he overcomes the horrors despite it all (a sense of control over the situation is marked by highpitched anxious flutes superimposed by a deep stable horn). Then comes the first faceoff with Miranda who taunts him and Ethan’s tragic hero theme comes to a grinding halt as his heart gets pulled out of his chest. The drums pick up again and the little soldier is off to his final battle.

Mia: Claude Debussy - Clair De Lune

Sadly the real Mia doesn’t appear much. In the Winters home, Ethan writes that Mia doesn’t want to talk about what they went through in Louisiana, which leaves him with a lot of questions unanswered. In the flashback where she desperately tries reaching out saying ‘𝘺𝘰𝘶 matter’, she still can’t help keeping secrets- maybe out of fear that Ethan wouldn’t let it go (being extremely persistent) and they’d never return to normal. The song is heartbreaking and sad as she struggles coming to terms with the guilt and grief over what she’s done and what the one she loves went through because of it. On a last somber note, her child, who takes after her father both in looks and unresolved powers, is all she has left.

Rose: Saint-Saëns - Le Cygne

A little girl whos only ever known unconditional, all encompassing love. Even before her birth, it was known that her life would be full of uncertainty. Though stolen away for possessing powers she’s not even aware of yet, she continues to live and provide a beacon of hope for her family.

Chris: Richard Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries

Comes in the dead of night and rains hell on the Winters home. In his eyes, he’s doing the right thing, but has made himself the villain to the one he was trying to protect (victorious trumpets superimposed by high fearful strings). The transport gets intercepted by Miranda and the music falls. Once Chris finally explains himself to Ethan they’re allowed a brief bit of victory (steadier horn) as their combined efforts take down Miranda’s last line of defense (Heisenberg). In the end, Chris has to live with the victory of taking down the megamycete, the guilt and grief over Ethan’s death/sacrifice, and the troubling news from BSAA. A tainted victory.

Alcina: Tchaikovsky - Swan Lake

Appears first as a noble elegant socialite. She’s at the height of her power, owns a castle and three daughters and believes herself to be Miranda’s favorite. It’s business as usual, calm serene music. Suddenly an outsider has made his way into her home, killing her daughters one by one. She reaches out to Miranda, who only cares about the stupid ceremony, and realizes everything she knew was a lie. Anger and frustration builds. The music deepens, falls and rises again as she transforms, tries taking revenge on Ethan and fails, having lost everything in one evening.

Bela, Cassandra, Daniela: Rimsky Korsakov - Flight of the Bumblebee

Self explanatory. Hurried, manic and playful.

Donna: Tchaikovsky - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy

Entrancing but with eerie insidious undertones. Fitting for the childlike dollmaker and her little porcelain friends. Ends with a fast and chilling theme for the twisted game of hide and seek

Moreau: Edvard Grieg - Hall of the Mountain King

Quiet, lumbering and slow. Ethan takes the Rose flask back easily; threatened with losing Mother Miranda it very quickly escalates as panic sets in and Moreau throws everything he has at him. The music swells and ends with a bang.

Karl: Aram Khachaturian - Masquerade Suite

A bold start. Right from the beginning he exudes arrogance, charisma and danger. He plays nice in front of Miranda with a waltz that picks up in intensity when putting Ethan through his first gauntlet. Then the tone gets deeper and quieter for a moment, as he plots in secret; it’s finally time to set his plan in action. It’s a race to the finish line as Ethan tears through the other lords, unknowingly playing right into Miranda’s plan. Realizing he could be a particularly useful asset/ally, Heisenberg puts him through the second gauntlet. The music is sadistically playful as he tests his will and endurance. Upon failing to recruit Ethan, the music picks up for the third gauntlet and ends with a bang, as Karl dies at the hands of Miranda.

Duke: Georges Bizet - Votre Toast

A friendly face unfitting in a place such as this. The upbeat and energetic theme sticks out like a sore thumb among the others. Whimsy and grandiosity acts as a brilliant facade for his enigmatic true nature. Though the jolly merchant schtick may be a lie, he always delivers on service.

Miranda: Sergei Prokofiev - Dance of the Knights

Immediately imposes a sense of authority and dread. The dark theme plays over and over as she performs the same cruel experiments expecting different results, though it only succeeds in remowing her further from humanity. She imagines a world of pure bliss in acquiring her child, which at this point is as illusory as chasing the holy grail since she’s never satisfied. When she hears of Rose she schemes her way into the Winters home, elated to find the perfect vessel after a century of searching. She steals the child away, leaving behind a trail of destruction that finally catches up to her.

From past experiences, Mailyth didn't exactly fancy the idea of taking something grown by Claude. "Knowing him... it's probably some fruit that has the ability to leave you in the bathroom for da- never mind actually." she thought to herself. "Relax" Claude said, gently picking a fruit and biting into the flesh. He could sense doubt in her eyes. Almost from the first moment he met her, he studied her closely. She grew from a blank unexpressive doll, to now a glowing beacon whenever she smiled. While she was still an enigma to Claude, he could read his Teach a lot better than most. "Fine, alright." Mailyth sighed. She always found it hard to say no to Claude after all, especially when he knew how to persuade her with food.

Street Fighter (Game over, man! Game over!), part 2

PREVIOUSLY ON...

The ruthless warlord General M. Bison (played by Raul Julia) has staged a coup on the Asian nation of Shadaloo, taking over 60 Allied Nations (AN) relief workers hostage and capturing one of their military escorts, Carlos Blanka (who happens to be Guile's best friend. What are the odds?), turning him over to his scientists for experimentation. One of the scientists, Dr. Dhalsim, is as much a prisoner as Blanka and the hostages are and is trying to secretly subvert the conditioning that is trying to turn Blanka into an inhuman monster.

Bison is demanding $20 billion for the safe return of the hostages.

Chief among Bison's bodyguards is Dee Jay (yes, it’s spelled out) and Zangrief.

[FUN FACT: Dee Jay is a Jamaican breakdancing kickboxer in the game and is based on kickboxer (and later Tae-Bo guru) Billy Blanks])

Aiding Bison is arms dealer Sagat and his lieutenant, the pit fighter known as Vega.

...who got sideways with a pair of martial arts masters turned conmen, Ken Masters and Ryu Hoshi, who try selling bogus weapons to Sagat before all four of them were arrested in a raid led by...

AN commander Col. Guile (played by Jean Claude Van Damme), seen here with his aides Cammy (played by pop star Kylie Minogue) and T. Hawk. Guile is also leading the AN forces deployed to rescue the hostages and stop Bison.

Additionally, Global News Television (GNT) reporter Chun-Li Zang (played my Ming Na Wen), along with her producer Edmund Honda and cameraman Balrog have their own agenda regarding Bison.

Ken and Ryu stage an escape with Sagat and Vega, during which Ken shoots Guile with Hawk's pistol!

Back at Bison’s secret base, Bison unveils his vision of the future

Then GNT reports Guile’s murder and Bison gets melancholy.

That evening, Chun-Li and her team track the homing beacon from inside their broadcast van, but run into interference from a second homing beacon on the truck. But who could’ve planted it?

The GNT van is forced to move on, but not before Chun-Li sneaks out to find out who else is interested in where Sagat is going. She sneaks into the base HQ and tracks the signal to discover…

Oh, you knew he wasn’t actually dead!

Yes, Ken and Ryu are now working for Guile. Guile wants to know Chun-Li’s interest in Bison.

Despite Chun-Li’s passion to see Bison dead, Guile has his men put her in a holding cell.

However, Chun-Li quickly gives her escort the slip.

And where does the truck go?

To an evil carnival and weapon emporium hosted by Bison, of course!

…which has been infiltrated by Chun-Li and her team, disguised as the evening’s entertainment. Ken sees Chun-Li sneak off and decides to follow her, only to get subdued when they’re alone.

Back at the main tent, Sagat finalizes an arms deal with Bison, but Bison wants to pay with…

Sagat will deal with cash for now, thanks. So Bison offers his payment:

Bison has printed his own money in anticipation of his impending victory. OK, there’s overconfidence and then there’s whatever the hell Bison has.

Meanwhile, Ryu has gone in search of Ken, but…

…the rest of Chun-Li’s team is waiting. Chun-Li tells them to leave in the next ten minutes, because she and her team...

Ken and Ryu go back to the conclave to finish their mission (why? Chun-Li’s about to finish it for them), but…

…things got a bit tense in their absence.

Both Bison and Sagat threaten to kill them, so they point out that the entertainment are spies…just as a broadcast airs.

Chun-Li and her team then arm a bomb on their truck and aim it at the meeting!

Unfortunately for Chun-Li’s team (but fortunately for Ken and Ryu), Bison manages to evacuate before the truck arrives (she really shouldn’t have given them warning. That sort of thing is more the villains' shtick)

However, Chun-Li’s activities did not go unnoticed as an AN surveillance satellite sees the explosion, alerting Guile to Bison’s location.

Later in Bison’s stronghold, Ken and Ryu are lauded as heroes, Sagat and Vega are guests, and Team Chun-Li are prisoners (though Chun-Li is escorted to Bison’s chambers) as a timer shows that the AN has less than 12 hours to pay the ransom.

Back at the AN compound, Guile briefs the troops.

Guile will pilot a boat carrying a small strike team (Cammy and Hawk, naturally) to clear the way before the main forces arrive.

Meanwhile, the dungeon Honda and Balrog are in is so decrepit, they manage to pull themselves free from their shackles and plan their escape.

Meanwhile Ken and Ryu have been given new (and more than a bit familiar to fans of the game) outfits.

The next morning, the AN troops are ready to move out when…

The soft muffled peace of the desert, offering space to reflect, reminded me that this was the halfway point of my journey. So far, collisions between food, people and places had been plentiful. But what had I learned? That Tashkent was changing at a rate far quicker than I had realised, and that some of the most valuable parts of the city - filled with tiny bakeries, old mud-walled houses and a million stories - was being systematically reduced to rubble, and was set to scale down further still. Later in the journey, this blow-down theme would continue apace in Samarkand, the Fergana Valley, and in Dushanbe. Paired with rapid development, tourism, striding ever quicker on the old Silk Road, may eventually destroy the very things that it set out to see.

Histories I’d not paid attention to before had been revealed and demanded attention: how hungry and repressed avant-garde artists of Uzbekistan and Russia had painted the food they longed to eat; how small domestic items belonging to women held in gulags were not inanimate objects but precious beacons of hope and memory; how milk was not only the food of nomads but a symbol central to Kazakhstan’s identity. And I found that the newspapers were right: fishing is slowly returning to the northern section of the Aral Sea.

Then, there was the sheer glee of food, often pressed generously into my hands as gifts and welcomes, that told its own stories: I couldn’t have hoped for a more alluring konditorei than Krendel in Pavlodar, nor a better dinner on the Caspian Sea in Aktau, or a more restorative breakfast spot in Tashkent - edible treasures, all, experiences that could have been easily passed over by someone in a rush, but that with time paint a different, more flavorful, picture of this often misunderstood region. Food, as the anthropologist, Claude Lévi-Strauss, said, is ‘good to think with’.

so I just finished rewatching season 2! I made TO THE SECOND time stamps of every time Alois Trancy appears on screen (as well as a few other notable things, such as when the explicit/violent parts happen, when Luka appears, and a few lines that were worth mentioning). here is your Tumblr Alois Stan Season 2 Survival Guide! While it's not everything (I didn't write down the post-mortem Hannah eyeball scene) it is 95% of the Alois content in that season!

This was using the version currently avaliable on Netflix. if the season has been cropped or altered on other streaming sites, I don't know how helpful this guide will be! sorry about that! Also, as per something @hateweasel said, I decided I had to keep track of what outfits he was wearing throughout the episodes. And I can proudly say the little shorts only show up in episode 1, 2 minutes in episode 5, all of the scenes of him in the present in Episode 8, and all of the scenes of him in Ciel's mind palace in episode 12. So about 20 minutes total. This is out of the approximate 50 minutes of Alois Time in the series, with his other outfits cycling in at the maid dress, the devil costume, his normal outfit but with trousers, and then Ciel's outfit while he's possessing him, and then his clothes as a kid.
