In 1996, Keith Tkachuk dropped the gloves with Claude Lemieux 20 seconds into the game between USA-Canada. 29 years later, his two sons, Matthew and Brady, dropped the gloves in USA-Canada THREE seconds into the game

wondering what the popular hrpf ships would be if hockeyblr existed in the past. gordie howe/ted lindsay obviously super popular. you couldn't get away from the habs fans. some freaks out there would be maintaining a claude lemieux/the grind line network of hatesex pwp. the gretzssier fans.

Le Désir: Through the Eyes of the Ice Dancers - Chapter 35: “Something Worth More Than Gold.”
Jacques' lips were warm and moist, and, Josée realized - it was far different from any other kiss she shared with Claude. When Jacques' lips met her own, Josée tensed up ever-so-slightly, but then found herself returning it - she leaned in closer, taking his cues. She felt her heart beat rapidly against her chest in the moment, and only pulled away briefly to catch a few breaths. Josée felt a shiver go down her spine when Jacques caressed her jaw as he kissed her. It wasn't the bad kind of shiver where she was unsure and doubtful about the kisses she shared, thinking that she was a bad significant other, but this kiss she shared with Jacques was real and raw - and it confused her so.
She felt him smiling against her lips; and her stomach did a little flip.
At last, they finally pulled away and gazed into the other's eyes - a million thoughts shared between them.
"I think you're the first girl I've ever kissed," Jacques remarked.
Beat.
Josée's face was bright red, and was still catching her breath that she lost because of her lips against his. Then she couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "Liar. Camila Lemieux, in seventh grade - it was a truth or dare."
Jacques considered it. "Hmm, oui. But..." He looked at her so seriously that Josée was rendered shocked. "...You're the first girl that I wanted to kiss, and for a long time."

ngl part of me was holding my breath & a little bit worried the fight was about the anthem (they knew the boos were coming before the game) so I'm super relieved he denied it.
(& also the conservatives online who are super mad abt the anthem need to shake it off they're so pathetic that even matthew who as much as i love him is a dyed in red conservative and also an actual member of the team cares less than they do.)
Yeah they knew it was coming and pretty much all of them that were asked (even the Canadians lol) made it clear they didn’t like the anthem being booed BUT I am almost positive a fight would have happened in that game regardless of there being boos during the anthem or not because not only does Matthew like to a put on a show, but Matthew and Brady regularly rewatch the USA win in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey in which Keith fought Claude Lemieux in the first twenty seconds of the game. So people who think Matthew and Brady weren’t going to seize the moment by the horns on such a massive stage, the first time they get to play meaningful games together, they just don’t know the tkachuks.

Ooh also (same anon as before), what fascinates you about the Red Wings? What made you become a fan of theirs? What are some moments from their history (recent or older) that you think are cool/ interesting/ something people should know about when getting into them? (Sorry for asking so much, I'm just in a very inquisitive mood today i guess haha)
hey dw it's fine- it gives me more opportunity to ramble about these things :)
i feel like my perspective on these things is different since i don't actually live in/around detroit, and being european i focus a lot on european hockey + euro players in the nhl. and since the wings have had so many of the top eu guys (like fedorov and lidstrom in the 90s, zetterberg and datsyuk in the 00s (and hopefully we'll be talking about seider and raymond in this way in the future)) i kind of was interested in them at first through that. like really you can't talk about europeans in the nhl without talking about detroit; and you really can't talk about russians in the nhl without talking a lot about this team. they've also just had some of the best players in the league even if we don't talk about the europeans- obviously steve yzerman, but also going back to the 50s w legends like gordie howe and ted lindsay. as a history nerd i do like a team with a lot to get into so it was literally a match made in heaven.
in terms of stuff to know, at least being aware of the production line (gordie howe, sid abel/alex delvecchio, ted lindsay) and their dominance in the 50s is a good place to start, as well as their insane championship runs in the late 90s/early 00s (i can hardly comprehend how many players on that 2002 team are in the hhof rn because it's literally silly), the russian five + other europeans on the team (like the ones mentioned in the above paragraph). oooo and fight night: basically, in the 96 playoffs colorado forward claude lemieux hit kris draper into the boards right in front of the bench (i'm not gonna put the video of it because it still makes me wince to see it myself), causing really bad injuries. it took the wings a while to get their revenge, but they finally did on march 26 1997. i'm actually just gonna link to the footage of it here because it's actually so unreal you need to see it imo. words don't do it justice.
oh and in general, wings fans on this site love to find connections between the team's history and the current team. if you look around in the drw tag you'll find so much of it (which i totally recommend doing btw; it's a good way to learn the specific type of insanity that comes along with this lol). i think it's great we do this- and honestly, i'm surprised i don't see this with the other original six teams (looking at habs and leafs fans specifically here, you guys have just as much stuff going on)

Detroit Red Wings Legend Darren McCarty To Be Special Enforcer At Slammiversary
Feedzy Read More  By /June 29, 2023 3:02 pm EST After a pretty good first act of his career that saw him pulverize Claude Lemieux in one of the most famous hockey fights in history, and deek Ron Hextall and Janne Niinimaa out of their skates to help clinch the first of four Stanley Cups, Detroit Red Wings icon Darren McCarty has focused some of his second act on professional wrestling.
