I’ve also never understood when people say Matthew has changed since Calgary? Like aside from the fact he got in a serious relationship and is married now what is different about his personality?

absolutely nothing, other than maybe becoming more confident?? he just succeeded and keith became very visibly proud of him so they could no longer project daddy issues onto him like they did before

okay, i said i was stepping away and i plan to, but i happened to check right as this came in and i wanted to address it.

i have always felt that fandom woobified matthew and projected that he's unloved and vying for keith's approval in a way that brady isn't because it allowed them to separate the less likable parts of him from who fandom wanted him to be, but i don't believe he's changed at all since he left calgary, it's just become harder for people to pretend that matthew isn't his father's son.

keith has been very proud of matthew this whole time. he doesn't play on the edge because he's trying to make his dad proud, he plays that way because it's fun and he likes it and he's good at it! he's loud and brash and antagonistic and florida allowed that part of his personality to grow because the team and the fandom fully embraced the villain designation. he didn't geek out about the white house visit or go ham at 4nations because he wants to please keith, he did that because he's a patriotic freak who loves america and has an eye for entertaining and knew fighting at 4nations would do exactly that!

i have always loved how matthew plays and how he knows how to play the media game and get people invested in rivalries and all that shit. he joined the council (if he even truly did, i will consider that saquon barkely may not be doing damage control and that trump did just lie about who all is on the council because he has a history of being a liar who lies) because he loves america and he thinks it's an honor to be asked by the president to promote fitness and i'm not going to punt any of that onto someone else now that he's doing things that upset me.

I think everyone here knows I’ve been a big proponent of loving your problematic faves and how most of the guys here have horrible politics so everyone has to have their own limits and stick to them.

Unfortunately joining forces with the admin in an official capacity seems to be might limit. He’s my favorite player, and I’ve enjoyed him a lot over the last few years, and I don’t know if I’ll ever stop enjoying him as a hockey player, but given that Bettman is also part of this, and that nhl resources will also be going to promoting the council’s agenda, I do view putting my money toward the nhl similarly to continuing to buy harry potter when we know what jkr uses her money for and will probably be stepping back from fandom for the time being

I’m really bummed about this and I don’t really know how I feel past that.

I’m so glad the Matthew/Brady Barstool podcast fell through because that company is just the absolute worst, I don’t want them associated with it. I also think it’s interesting that they’re already branded Tkachuk media options post-Four Nations. I would not be surprised if they revive the Stuck With The Tkachuks reality show at some point.

yeah, i'm SO glad that fell through because good god i would hate them to be affiliated with that site more than they already are as frequent guests on chiclets lol

but it is interesting to hear portnoy talk about how even as two of the biggest stars in hockey right now he still thinks they'd lose money doing another hockey podcast because it's essentially split the market instead of creating more revenue because hockey just isn't marketable enough for two podcasts from the same company

Kinda surprised to see a church wedding. It looks roman catholic (i think?)! Did brady have one too? Looks like a huge wedding regardless, church wedding and a celebration at a hotel, right? was it all the same day?

one of the guests posted the program and it was at an Episcopalian church (i believe it's ellie's family parish) which makes sense to me because unless the religios part is deeply important to the groom, (which i've never gotten the vibe from the tkachuks that they are suuuuper catholic despite going to catholic schools all their lives) the bride usually gets prioritized in ceremony location lmao

which is why i assume brady and emma were not married in a church

But actually, I think it’s just really sweet that Brady genuinely loves his brother and is super proud of him and it’s just as cool to sit in the cup your beloved uncle won, even if your dad could someday win it too.

yeah, exactly! i wasn't a bridesmaid in my eldest SIL's wedding when i was still a girlfriend, but she was in mine, and my BIL's then girlfriend wasn't a bridemaid in mine either but i was in hers!

there's a certain "staying power" in being the wife instead of the girlfriend when it comes to including in-laws in the wedding party

How long did it take for you and Matthew to talk about it (4nfo fights)? We never talked about it. As soon as the tournament was over, we met in the airport. Had lunch together. Me, Reino and Chucky had lunch together. Hopped on our flight, went home and didn't talk about hockey at all [...] back to normal everyday life. [...] That's friendship right there.
