I love soulmate AUs and I love Superbat identity shinanagins, and I love Kryptonian biology being weird, and I want to put all three together in a fic.

Like, imagine humans and kryptonians have different things to indicate soulmates. Like, humans have the "world is black and white untile you touch your soulmate" thing, but kryptonians have red string of fate.

So Clark immediately has an advantage when it comes to identity. And he feels terrible cuz god, his string goes to both Bruce Wayne and Batman, so obviously they're the same person, and he REALLY wasn't supposed to know that. And Batman seems to kinda hate Superman, so he really can't burden Bruce with this.

So when Clark can't avoid shaking hands with Bruce while doing a press thing at a foundation gala, Clark has to try and act surprised when Bruce is surprised. And its public enough that the gossip columns get it out immediately so there's no hiding that Brucie Wayne found his soulmate. So Bruce, not knowing that Clark is Superman, now has to protect this clumsy, flighty reporter, and well shit, he actually really likes the guy. All while Clark is trying very hard not to reveal that "oh yeah, I kinda knew we were soulmates a few years ago and that's why I've avoided you at events? How did I know? Well, I'm Superman and I know you're Batman and never told you. Oops."

And I just want them to both be really, really stupid.

one of the things I love about the SueprBat ship is that Bruce's most attractive feature, his wealth, has no affect on Clark

Clark Kent grew up in a small town in rural America. he is used to living without luxury and has no reason to seek it. add that to the fact that if Clark did want wealth and luxury, he could easily create his own. This is a man who can crush coal into diamonds, remember.

this is great for Bruce because it means that he can be secure in the knowledge that Clark loves him for him and not for his money.

this is also terrible for Bruce, because he does not know how to date someone without showering them with his wealth

The plot is that Superman shoves Batman out of the way of something dangerous in the field and Batman confronts him when he wakes up about his crush on him. He’s rlly harsh and tells him he will never want him. Things are obviously awkward after that and their friendship kinda stops. Batman tries to apologize one day but Superman just tells him he understands and to not worry about it.

Then, Clark doesn’t rlly speak to him for months and Bruce ends up buying the Daily Planet solely so he can speak to Clark. Bruce eventually confesses that the reason he was so harsh was because he liked Clark back but was scared of how Clark would choose to protect him over himself so he tried to push him away but wasn’t able to handle the reality of what he did.

Clark goes back to not speaking to him and Bruce sells the Daily Planet but starts sending him gifts and eventually he comes in while Clark is working and Clark agrees to go on a date with him.

I looked through all of my AO3 history and cannot find it for some reason 😭

Summary
