i think i get what makes the 2005 p&p movie so much more popular (and why the distaste for the 1995 miniseries). and im aware i might be fully swinging at a wasps nest.

its bc its essentially Disney’s Pride & Prejudice. the 2005 movie basically just takes the premise of the story and turns it into a romantic fantasy almost. like the misty moors scene is almost too goofy (and imo actually is) in reference to the actual story and character. it overly dramatizes the story at the cost of the depth that made the story so enduringly popular, but that also makes it much easier to consume. this just feels like adding insult to injury now, but i do feel like the 1995 series basically directly lifting the dialogue straight from the novel means that if someone can’t keep up or comprehend early 1800s speaking mannerisms (and the entire story being communicated via the acting and dialogue), they end up basically missing out on the whole thing. (i only say this bc ive discovered that much more people than i thought seem to actually struggle with this)

also i do not understand what is the deal with that damn hand clench. i never understood the (sorry) grasp that scene had on people. the fact that when i last saw it (do not update me i do not want to know) that poll had the matthew mcfayden darcy slightly winning. collin firth said “you’ve bewitched me body and soul” with his eyes better than matt mcf did with his actual mouth. ill say tho that the hand clench scene was necessary bc idk how anyone was supposed to sense darcys attraction when matt mcf made the bold choice to channel eyeore into his portrayal of mr darcy.

i honestly like the hand clench scene in 2005 for the same reason you mentioned bc it is like the ONLY moment that gave any tangible evidence that there was actually something there. every time i bring up how chemistry-less they were in 2005 everyone is like ‘yeah that’s his personality! it’s supposed to be like that!’ etc etc. LIKE a stoic-afraid of his feelings-repressed male character type has never been done in romance before -_-. be serious. you can have ALL that and still have tension and chemistry. (as an example north and south guy has a similar character with a more serious subject matter even! but you can STILL feel the attraction. the pull!) they don’t have that in p&p 2005. which dulls the romance before we even get into the loser behavior of rewriting lizzie’s personality to make her softer

like to me it’s a very pretty movie with gorgeous cinematography and some great scenes like the hand clench but watching it as a complete work and in context…i just do not feel what everyone else is feeling. im sorry </3

Top 5 technologies that, unfortunately, have fallen out of use

okay this was interesting, had to rly think. Also idk if my definition of "technology" is right, but anything resembling will go. ALSO damn I rambled a lot, sorry abt that, apparently I like thinking about old tech

CDs. I miss owning albums, it was so nice to like actually have the physical copy of something u love. I think that's what missing now and is why I sometimes get actually annoyed abt loving a band/song (rn it's The Vantages (a band) & I'm actually mad about it) bc the "listening to it is not enough, I need to inject it to my bloodstream"-mood, which in actuality is that I'd love a physical copy to make it feel like a concrete thing. It's like the next best thing to going to a concert, and I can't keep buying merch I'll never wear outside my house to compensate. Also made u like decide on what album u want to listen to & the songs are always gonna be in the same order the artist decided them to be in, no mixing songs from the same or diff artists, you had to make A Choice. (actually my dad has my fave bands CDs (old-ish band & he an og fan) and it's kinda comforting to me that if (/when?) some Spotify apocalypse eventually happens, I'll have a way to listen to them anyways). Also been thinking for years about buying either a CD- or a vinyl player, or something like that bc I want to have physical copies of my faves (but haven't decided on what yet (probs vinyl tho. for the vibes.) and also the money aspect of it is not great)

Nokias. I just talked with my sister how we've both been thinking abt just buying an old Nokia keypad non-smart phone and just using that instead of like the current phones (but alas, not rly possible, like I can't get into my gym without a smart phone and that's just one thing, u kinda need a smartphone or life becomes unnecessarily complicated). But the durability, the worm game, the ''oh no in a hurry and need the letter s, oh shit I went overboard and went right back to p''). Also Finland represent lol

tamagotchi type things. like a "gaming console" (it's not but idk what those are called) that has the one game with abt 3 pixels and no color. Also I had one like that had a monkey that collected dropping bananas and that was the whole game, the only function that thing had (I have a suspicion I got it from McDonalds??? idk why I keep thinking that) (Googled and yes it was from McDonalds, called Aiai banana catch)

those big computers that were for the whole household. We didn't have one growing up (bc my parents had computers at their work and so we didn't need one) but the thrill of going to like a friend who lived near and they used their 1h of computer time to like play some horse game; unparalleled. Or like the games at Miniclip ?? or later on CLUB PENGUIN !!!!! (still to this day the best game that has or ever will exist) (tho I think at around club penguin-era my sister got a laptop so I used that until I got my own)

Those calculators that prints on paper what u've calculated right after, idk what they're called. Never used one & obv never had one bc was a kid, and actually not fully sure if ppl still do use them (but guessing at least that they're not as popular anymore) but damn. The pure aesthetics and vibes. Like the movie scenes of a character calculating using that while looking at bills to indicate that the said character has some finance problems? phenomenal, cinematography etc.

YESSS spiderverse is such a juggernaut of a film i believe it is one of the most perfect film out there and one of the most impactful of our time as well like you can really see the animation seep into other movies like pib2 and the bad guys . its such a masterful and amazingly crafted film that like most words said will not be able to do the film justice since its like THAT good holy crap

What Russian movies would you recommend?

oh my god where to even start!! i really love soviet cinema so this is most of what i will suggest probably (im kind of meh on most recent mainstream russian cinema, even tho it has great pieces of guilty pleasure movies lmao) alright so settle in well okay lets start with the classics: andrei tarkovsky is my favorite filmmaker, literally anything and everything by him (just dont watch nostalghia first, but i highly recommend the mirror, stalker, solaris if you like SF, or hell even andrei rublev if thats your jam bc personally it is and i LOVED), very contemplative and slow movies though, like. you will need patience to get through his stuff, but personally i always say it feels like someone recorded a dream and you're watching that. it feels really oniric and its like you dont exactly grasp it all and when you try to explain it you cant really but good god its good

then! i will recommend one of my all-time favorite movies, and i mean it, of ALL times, the ascent by larisa shepitko. its about two soldiers during wwii who are sent off to find food, and its one of those war movies that arent really war movies you know but they are about it, and moreso, they're about like Humanity™? anyway one of the most haunting, beautiful and devastating movies i've seen ever. just beautiful in the cinematography, in the acting, in just everything honestly, its raw and profoundly human and also if youre like me and youre all about that religious symbolism? youre in for a... sad sad treat, but a treat nonetheless. it really like. got me deep like i didnt know what to do with myself after watching it but its a masterpiece 10000% (also while im there... also watch larisa sheptiko's other movie, wings)

now another classic is of course the cranes are flying, everyone knows but i need to reiterate it really lives up to the hype... just. some of the most beautiful cinnamon tography ive seen ever. like ill be honest even if i love cinematography in general i rarely go look up a cinematographer specifically but for this movie i HAD to bc some camera shots are INSANE. just one of the most gorgeous movies ive seen ever

if we're still going about aesthetic bc why not... if you liked hamlet by shakespeare, you HAVE to see the 1964 Hamlet movie its sooo gorgeous and such a good adaptation in my opinion like i just think this movie understands EVERYTHING about the essence of the play

now the next one i wouldnt necessarily put on the same scale as the others but good god is it a good watch, and its ballad of a soldier yes its another classic idc the soviet classics arent classics for nothing. this one is a really nice watch. just felt..... really nice and once again war movie thats not really showing you the war itself, i dig this hardcore

okay also ! not soviet lmfao but HUGE mention to alexander sokurov, you probably know of russian ark, if you dont, its not only a fucking prowess of cinematography, its basically one single continous shot for the entire movie and not like. a fake one like 1917 -tho dont get me wrong, loved what 1917 did-, like its deadass. press record, do the entire fucking movie, press stop. its INSANE and its BEAUTIFUL and im in love with sokurov's style, not as well known but i also loved francofonia, tho its a lot more experimental imo and is more documentary than movie, but also not documentary per se, i guess an essay of sorts, kind of confusing but i enjoyed it

i could not do this without of course mentioning one of my comfort movies™, which is я шагаю по мосве (translated as different things, like walking the streets of moscow or i walk around moscow) just a short and really sweet and light movie about . life i guess. LMAO its vague but theres really no real plot in there just a good time and very genuine and also has one of my favorite final scenes ever quick special mentions: courier, which was not my favorite but a really good movie still and it gets me bc its 1980s russia aka my jam, crime and punishment 1970 IF youve read C&P bc umm its an entire vibe, and remember when i said modern russian cinema guilty pleasure? okay well i rewatched движение вверх recently and like. it still slaps. if youre wondering (???) i need you to know i havent watched a zvyaginstev movie since i was like 16 so i dont have a concrete opinion on his stuff lmao)

Skam + Remakes - Their Best Seasons

because I'm bored, here's which season(s) I think are the best for each version :)) (you’re allowed to disagree btw)

Skam - Season 3

*pretends to be shocked* it's the best one, what can I say? It develops pre-existing characters well, make use of the different perspectives of the show and makes previously disliked characters likable. Cinematography and music is nice (it always was tho). (also shoutout to season 1, because it's important and I actually really, really love it. So many iconic moments.)

Skam France - Season 3 & 6

I think we let Skam France get away with having like ,, one good season, and two half good seasons. Season 3 was great, but that is a lot because of Axel. And season 6 was great, but a huge part of that is because of Flavie. They both were good mains I think, when it really comes down to it. 

Skam Italia - Season 4

Yeah. Despite controversy it's the most well-written season. I also have a soft spot for season 3, but season 4 as a whole, despite Malik being a bit bland, was made with love and way more consideration and had way more precautions be taken than most Skam season 4 writers have ever taken. That being said, it sucks that they put all that effort in but still didn't hire an actual Muslim actress. 

Skam NL - Season 1

I don't have a lot to say. I do think season 1 is the superior season though. Isa is a great Eva version, and I liked how she held her own. Especially during the fight. Like, good for you queen, not just taking the punch, but fighting back. GOOD FOR YOU! Kes sucked though, I'm sorry but I never liked him, and without a season 3, it was inevitable to stay that way. Also, the girl squad is so fucking cute. Jana  my favourite Chris !!1! Engel the cutest thing to walk this earth !!1! Liv 11!1 Imane !!1! ugh I just love them all. + the piercing scene ??? God Tier 

Druck - Season 5 & 6

I really love season 3, and Matteo is one of my all time favourite Skam mains. That being said, season 5 & 6 are well written, has complex characters + great representation with a diverse cast, and they use said diverse cast to discuss racial issues, which is so damn important. Plus, great lgbtq+ rep. And we love a main with a MI, who gets support from her family and has a LI who is there for her, not to save her, but to support her. All good about the first 4 seasons got even better. As a whole I think every season of Druck has a lot of good to offer, it's a solid TV show. But I do think they've really gone off with the new gen, and I wanna give them props for that. 

Skam España - Season 3

I kind of found this season a bit bland whilst it was going, but looking back it is one of the most important seasons in the entire Skamverse, because abusive relationships are real, and a lot of young women watch Skam, and to not romanticize abusive behavior like they do with William in OG, but rather showcase how harmful guys like these are, is so fucking important. + the girls assuring Nora it wasn't her fault and supporting her, we love that. Love women. Also, having Alejandro not judge Nora but telling her that he's glad she's out of that was so refreshing after so many William versions blamed their Noora. Circling back, watching it live felt a bit anti-climactic and uneventful, but the impact. Well that's unmatched. 

Skam Austin - Season 1

I like Marlon, fight me. I like Shay. I actually wanted Megan and Shay together, oops. Tyler was also so damn great. Such a cool gang, Idgaf. It's a chill season, and it's actually really funny. So yeah. Don't really have that much to say about this either. I like Skam Austin, and both seasons are good, but season 1 is just slightly better imo. Because of Julie ??? who knows. Season 2 gets mad props for "what happened with your brother sucked... for me" though.

WtFock - WtFockDown

It's not a season per say, but looking back, it's one of the most consistent things with that show, addressing prior mistakes and making unlikable characters likable. No, it's probably the best thing the show has done. Minus the cybersex of course, fuck that clip. If I had to pick a season though, I'd probs say season 2 I guess.

1. Gaya Sa Pelikula(like in the movies)

I absolutely love this series. A big shout out to the writer he/she/they has done a great job. The plotline was simple yet impactful and much need(I know lot of people felt comforted/understood after watching the series). The ost and playlist of the series is perfection and the cast omfg they are so so good. Every single one of them.

2. I Told Sunset About You

First thing first. This series got one of the best cinematography. Reminds me of Wong kar-wai movies. Talking about kar-wai. Oh-aew give me major Tony Leung character from happy together vibe. The acting is stellar (especially the tension between the two main character). I am so glad we are getting season 2..

3. It's Okay Not To Be Okay

Series that speaks about mental health is very much needed, especially in Asian drama. Living in a country where mental health is ignored, this series felt comforting.Great casting and well written plotline.

4.Gifted the series

I watched both the seasons this. The story was interesting but i wish it ended differently tho. Either ways it was a great watch.

5.Cherry Magic

This series is my happy home. I loved Thursdays just because of episode release. Adachi finding love at 30 strangely comforts me.. It makes me feel like it's okay to take your time.

6. Theory Of Love

Yes TOL is usual unrequited love for your best friend plotline but what I appreciate the most is that third prioritised himself(not in first half tho) He didn't accept Khai immediately he thought through what Khai has put him through. He took his time and that's the sign of healthy relationship imo.

7. Gameboys

This was my first Filipino series. I love that they did this in middle of pandemic and spoke about all the things ppl went through.It was relatable.

The kiss in between Sanitized plastic sheet is iconic. Also them meeting in middle of empty street which would have been in crowded if it wasn't for pandemic.

8. Paava kathaigal

This is a Tamil series (not sure it can be called series it got 4 eps of independent story). This show bravely spoke about all the controversial topic. Hon*r kil*ng, c*st s*system ,tran*phobia and r*pe... It touched my heart. I never thought I would ever see a lesbian character in mainstream tamil cinema. I am so glad we are progressing.

9. Alice In Borderland

Okay I looked up for this show cuz our dear Kurosawa acted in it and I found my another fave kento yamazaki is lead so I watched. It kept me hooked on right from first episode. I would highly recommend this.

it's definitely not too much trouble i already know this is gonna be long as shit bc i have so many Thoughts on the matter

it is indeed p hard to articulate so i'll give some examples & comparisons n share my thoughts based on that!

first i think it's important to recognize the context of a show like skam. it is made to represent every-day teenagers who might enjoy but not ever relate to characters & stories on some fantasy/murder mystery shows abt teenagers. the very core of skams is realism n accuracy to real life. we as the audience are not only supposed to be onlookers of the events we're meant to feel connected to the stories n relate to the main characters.

skamfr has some VERY beautiful shots if u look at them independently. if someone just showed me a screenshot of one of them i'd be like wow! that's stunning! but that's not what i'm supposed to feel when it comes to skams. if i go watch an artistic full length movie at the theaters i Do want to see beautiful shots that look like art n have a lot of symbolism behind them but when i watch skam i'm supposed to think "that could be me. that looks like my life" i'm not a lowly spectator who could never have such a beautiful life but instead the audience should see their lives directly put on screen.

skam france has been rly consistent w it tho! it's been their brand since like season 3.. but it did get worse in s5 & 6 i think bc they started to try too hard for original storylines. i think it's very intentional n if they were making another show i wouldn't say it's bad rly (altho sometimes it is that too bc they try too hard fmgjkd). out of context a lot of their cinematography works bc they usually tie it into the plot to represent the events but they just picked the wrong style for a web series. like babes u are not submitting this to the academy pls chill.

now let me introduce u to the most despicable shot in skam history (in my humble opinion)

now before anyone says. yes i know this sequence of shots has a purpose. this is exactly what i mean that if it was some other show w different goals it wouldn't be such an issue bc yeah this looks great right? it's a "sensory clip" we r supposed to "hear" what it's like to be deaf n specifically what it's like for arthur. but.

let's put this into skam context. we as the audience should see ourselves in arthur, not necessarily entirely but we should feel he's just like us, a teenager w his own unique struggles & life experiences. now tell me, when u feel depressed or sad or have had the worst week of ur life n u must drag urself to the shower... is this what it feels like? first of all do u take the shower in the fucking dark???? just for the aesthetic?? do u stand DIRECTLY in the middle letting the water hit u exactly on the top of ur head forming a symmetrical shade on u while u just... stand there. do u feel like ur ascending in the shower as u dramatically raise ur chin literally what the actual fuck is this. don't get me wrong sometimes u just actually do stand there doing nothing bc u just feel so horrible but that's not rly the feeling this clip awakens?

this leans a bit into the romanticization of arthur's season which wouldn't be as bad (still cringy but not as bad) if arthur had already accepted himself at this point but no he's basically suffering in the shower n we are looking at him like wow that's so pretty. let's imagine how we could make this clip feel more real n how we could actually see ourselves in him here:

stop making ur main characters of the season the main characters of the world. just bc arthur is feeling terrible doesn't mean the whole world imitates his feelings. in a symbolic movies masterpiece it would but not in a concept like skam. one of the worst things abt feeling terrible is seeing how the world just goes on around u. imagine how real it would feel like if he was in the shower w the generic yellowish light on that a lot of bathrooms have. we could see his silhouette slouching in the shower through a shower screen. or maybe a shot similar to the example pics but the ugly lights are on n the water is annoyingly dripping in his eyes & he doesn't look like they're trying to give him a halo n make him into a jesus archetype. the bathroom would look the same it looks on a rly happy day or a boring day bc this day only sucks for arthur n the universe isn't gonna come to his house to give him a cool background bc of it

same w this comparison

two underwater shots, both rly pretty & heavy on symbolism but the other one is literally waiting for those "this looks like a renaissance painting" comments n the other is rly pretty but still looks like real life humans who r not doing a photo shoot for vogue. which do u find more relatable? which situation makes u think Yeah that's real life?

like look at this camera position of "barely above water" this is like.. almost "ugly" but it's so fucking real n probably closest to the feeling of a first person point of view shot that u can get to

now the s7 camera decisions seem sooooo much better compared to all this. they have a lot of time to still make super dramatic shots that distance the viewer from the story line but so far so good. maybe they'll pick this up again to make the world revolve around tiff as she faces hardships but let's hope not 🙃

i genuinely love this shot like it's super down to earth & feels real but they have still easily kept in the symbolism. like tiff is literally putting walls between others n herself. jo feels like she's literally talking to a wall. tiff feels alone & secluded even tho someone is in the same room as her. yet they didn't have to make it look like smth out of an obscure indie film whose purpose is to have the audience in awe instead of representing them.

yeah the first person point of view of jo going in and out of frame while doing sit ups mightve been weird or cringy but 1. that's skam for y'all & 2. i'll choose that any day over arthur ascending like jesus in the shower.

Gossip Girl, EP. 4 Reaction & Review

Finally, I've gathered all of my thoughts for ep. 4! I had this really cool extra post to the intro and had more thoughts but then I lost the entire thing so I had to re-write the entire post SO, yeah, this is all I have for this part. Also, if anyone has those bts photos please let me know, i’m looking for the ones that have the audience reacting to max’s dick pick from the fashion show, aki biting his lip. please send. 

ADULTS:

Kate & CO: JAIL JAIL JAIL. We had that one teacher being turned on by incest and ruining kids lives. DO BETTER IN JAIL. I'll say tho, the male teacher makes a better gossip girl, he doesn't feel bad and is enjoying it. Kate could never.

Rafa: JAIL. JAIL. JAIL. JAIL. JAIL. I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU. I hate that they showed us this man having common sense. This man, pushing Max away sexually but understanding that he needs serious help. I hate that they just didn't have them flirting and show us him saying no, I'm so upset. I'm even more upset that I fell for him being the character to subvert the trope. I can only blame myself but blame HBO as well. I also hate the comments saying it's okay or well, the show needs scandal and spice. They could've been photographed together in normal clothes, just standing next to each other. Max could lie to GG. There are a bunch of ways these could become an IC scandal without having them cross the line. If you support this, you need help.

OUR KIDS:

Max: My boy needs therapy, lots of it. Maybe rehab. On one hand, he's being taken advantage of because he's clearly going through something and more than just his dads and he has been for a while. His escapism is dangerous and anyone would be able to prey on that. On the other hand, I need someone to beat his ass. His lines to Rafa about money and career were punch worthy and out-right willing to lie about Rafa doing something to him, even just to press Rafa's buttons. He needs help, he needs to be taught boundaries, he needs a lot. And why were the only two people concerned for his week-long disappearance Aki and Audrey, the whole squad should've had the guns out, friends since childhood, sure.

Obie: My boy, I get that you didn't like where you saw Zoya headed. I get that in some aspects you were right about her being a little too involved and suspecting Julien. That being said, she was having real problems and troubles and needed support. Do better. Obie still isn't the worst character on the show and many of them are SOOOO much worse. He doesn't deserve the all of the smoke he's been getting when their are better people for it.

Monet & Luna: I hate them as people and love them as characters that move the plot. I guess I could see how they thought the fuck school thing was horrible (and Julien too since she planned on showing Obie). The directors cut, I don't think they thought it'd ruin Zoya, they're just fucking cruel and found it funny. Let's box. Also, why are ya'll so pressed over this CHILD. Like get over it, find a real up-coming social media star. 

Aki & Audrey: My good sis, you brought a gay man to make Aki jealous. I'm sick, it was fucking funny. Her comments at first were off the wall, I wish the writers would've done something else but a lot of woman don't see it as normal so I sort of get it. I'm glad she came around by the end. And Aki...he was a little spicy this episode, my boy was ready to pop off a bit AND I AM HERE FOR IT. My dude said, 'I don't regret kissing him' I was THROWN. Aki being with Audrey helps me like her more because she's a bitch that's still ready to gun for a now 15 year old girl but her and Aki's relationship is cute. They could break up and be fine which is great, I love that their relationship is really more than just dating and the friendship is strong. I'm here for it.

Zoya: It's just bad writing but my head canon is trauma. Trauma from her moms death death, trauma from the past and current bullying that caused her lash out. I felt like this was her breaking point (so far) and anything gossip girl related as always came around to Julien. If she trusted Julien more, she wouldn't have thought of her as the person causing her issue's but she doesn't trust her. They were civil but even at the end of ep 2. Her 'hell yeah' to Julien about bonding was too dry, too dry. I think a big part of her just doesn't trust Julien and she'll always think the worse because she's seen mostly the worse. And that video, horrible, I'd hate everything about my birthday too after that and even before. Her emotions during the scene and the talk with Julien, ouch. And while I'm happy that Zoya found herself in the end, YES GIRL POP OFF. THIS IS WHAT I WANTED. THIS IS THE FLAVOR. I WAS WAITING FOR THIS AND I WANT MORE. I DEMAND MORE. I SEE A SPARK OF A BITCH, LET HER OUT GO, GO ALISON DELAOTRUINES ON THESE BITCHES.

Julien: Once again, I love Julien as a character, I know she's supposed to be struggling and for that, It's fun to watch her BUT. Julien could never be on my team, she's too wishy-washy. That is my issue, she's too, just...flip-floppy with no substance. Like, when she does things wrong, they're expected  to be forgiven / are forgiven without true reflection or anything on her part. She fucks up, she see's its wrong and then she says sorry and goes on it does it again. This episode was just the worst example, like, the moment she heard buffalo, she was ready to send in a tip. Instead of just doing the party normally and being best because she's hear, she sends the video to Monet. She believes Luna and Monet (Monet talking about her throne being taken when Zoya isn't even an influencer) and she eats it up. They were the ones who did the dick pick thing, like girl, THINK. And why does she never get the full plan, why would she not watch the video or why is she so shocked that Luna and Monet would play something like that? She knows them. Friends since childhood? Sure. Using your moms name to make the party about charity? SIS, THE FEUD IS NOT WORTH IT. She says she wants to be sisters but then she switches up so fast and the witches up again, it's whip-last and I'm sick. I hate that she's doing this to her and I hate even more that's is the writers fault. I don't mind a character having personal conflict but make it a conflict. Like after four episodes, why is she still friends with her sisters bullies? At the end of the episode, she says she's gonna tell them to lay down their weapons, NO, shut it down. correct them. make it clear and make it known. I love my girl because she's flawed but I wish they'd linger on things and have her really think about it. I was fine with the i'm sorry speech up until the camera part.

Other random thoughts

fuck the rafa max thing again, i'm not over, i will never be over it

evan mock isn't the best but he does give me face at times, his 'wtf stare', little sly looks, the 'wtf' moment when audrey first asked him if he was gay like 'this bitch' also, give him more annoyed, irritated scenes, he gives in those

have julien go full nice or full evil for a while, pick a side and stick with it for more than one episode

i wish zoya was a bitch at her old school but i'm fine with this too, it explains why she was so reactionary when it came to the bullying at constance, not again!

i wish we could've seen julien talk with davis after that stunt

nick and davis, KISS, the ride scene was 100%

don't talk about obie so soon

i like that she chose to be with julien for the night, it was cute

emily makes these faces that i can't get with

eli brown is a good actor, that shot of him during the traumatic reveal

i will say, zobie might be boring but when they talk, they talk, their communication is p good, i don't hate it

can't wait for five bc i love the angst that's about to hit.

ok minari is SUCHH a beautiful movie it’s abt a korean american family who move to arkansas in the 80s to basically start homesteading (partially based on the director’s life) and the plot is mostly based in the character dynamics which are all so realistic and sooo compelling to watch + the soundtrack/cinematography r beautiful..... ugh cannot recommend enough

ooooohhh this sounds good i love character focused stories! bet this will make me cry my eyes out tho when i have a possibilty to watch it sfhjg

-Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood ( fantasy/adventure, this one I think… Everyone should watch because it’s one of my fave stories ever…..watch this one first-)

-Mob Psycho 100 (action comedy REALLY JUST WATCH IT and then read the manga and spinoff)

-Gurren Lagann (adventure, mechas, kinda a coming of age story?? I have to hold back to not cry just by thinking abt it)

-Evangelion (apocalyptic, mechas, p psychological too, you get super confused but it’s so good)

-Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun ( (best) comedy)

- Houseki no Kuni (fantasy)

- Beastars ( I’d say this?? Is kinda a thriller with a love story)

-Keep your hands off Eizouken (comedy)

-The Promised Neverland (dark fantasy? Kinda horror/thriller too honestly)

-Heartcatch Pretty Cure (magical girls magical girls!!!! character design is by Umakoshi, who also worked on Magical Doremi, my fave magical girl anime from childhood)

-Puella Magi Madoka Magica ( heavy take on magical girls; I’ve loved it but I don’t like the oversaturation of the genre they brought up tbh?? Didn’t watch the sequel movie yet, it’s on my to watch list)

-Kiznaiver is??? Kinda weird but it’s a Trigger original so u know what I’m gonna put it in the list anyway

-Soul Eater (the fanservice is everywhere but the world building and the main characters are still really cool imo; the anime has a different ending than the manga tho)

-Revolutionary Girl Utena (the aesthetic and cinematography are really great, but it has some heavy themes, the movie is REALLY GOOD)

And all these ones have a ton of explicit themes or graphic stuff so uuh yeah

-Devilman Crybaby (recent remake of Devilman, apocalyptic, there’s… A lot of everything)

-Panty and Stocking (this is literally an action comedy with a streak of dirty jokes and stuff, which isn’t really my cup of tea BUT animation and character design are superb and I tip my hat at that s2 when plea s e)

-Kill la Kill ( I’d say… A magical girl action comedy with a ton of fanservice but ONCE AGAIN, it’s a Trigger original, which means the character designs, the animations, literally everything just makes it worth the watch imo)

And if you like smth like slapstick comedy I’d say Osomatsu-san or Keroro, but I don’t actually remember much of Keroro’s anime,,

Episode 9 - DON’T DEAD OPEN INSIDE & Foxglove loves all the tropes

Hello there! Welcome to episode 9, I spent the whole day yesterday decluttering my shoes, clothes and makeup, because surprise! I got too much shit and it doesn’t fit anywhere anymore (let’s not think about the fact that I have even more makeup on its way). In other news my cat is back to sleeping on my legs at night again (he stopped doing so about a month ago. I’m p sure is the fact that I sublimate “stress” into “anger”) which means now I have him and another adult cat sharing my bed. It’s awesome.

A... glitter talisman. I’m sorry but the word glitter just gives me war flashbacks nowadays. Not only does it go everywhere and won’t ever go completely away, I’ve also seen way more scratched corneas due to makeup products with plastic glitter particles that I’ve ever wanted to see given than eyeballs freak me the fuck out. (I’m sorry I can’t help it but when LWJ jumped and spun in the air away from the chain I could not contain myself and screamed “point your toes” at the tv. My ballet teacher would be so proud)

ya girl saw the downton movie and has some Thoughts

if you followed me at all from 2011-2015 then you'll know i am firmly Team Downstairs and did not want this movie to happen, just so you all know what position i'm coming from here.

everything below is gonna be spoilery af. if you haven't seen it yet and want info just hmu. if you have seen it and want to talk about it please message me bc i’m always up for chatting about Downton.

okay but the title sequence with the music building and cresting as we come up over the hills and get our first shot of downton... goosebumps. tbh i don't know shit about film making but i can't fault the technical aspects (costumes, music, cinematography). the impact of the increased budget was felt from the very first second.

for the plot i’m gonna split things by character to make it easier. i’ll probably go to see it again and maybe after that i’ll have some deeper Thoughts but i missed being able to liveblog during the film so enjoy my rambling first reactions.

upstairs peeps

everything with violet was iconic. i'm glad that they didn't neglect her relationship with isobel and ofc maggie and imelda played fantastically off each other. pretty much everyone has already highlighted the scene with violet and mary at the end and it tied things up perfectly between them. violet and mary are so so similar and violet has been pushing for her to inherit since before S1. the movie showed us that mary is basically running the estate even if she doesn't get the the title and i can totally see why violet is confident in the future of downton now. that being said, i don't think violet will actually die. maggie has been talking about leaving since 2012 and fellowes obviously put this in as a get-out clause for her should she want to go, but i reckon they’ll convince her to do more. if carson's palsy can be mysteriously cured, so can violet's conveniently vague illness.

i already knew that robert and cora weren't gonna be in it much, but i wish we could've seen cora finding out what was happening with edith and helping her out. it wouldn't surprise me if there was a deleted scene there cause that whole storyline felt a little disjointed. i completely forgot that cora knew about the pregnancy and was so confused at how the queen foud out about it all. i don't think we got anything in robert and cora's bedroom, or anything with cora/baxter and robert/bates, which would've also been very welcome but i guess they can only fit in so much.

onto mary: this may be an unpopular opinion but god i miss her long hair. yeah i know it wasn't the style of the time but her wig in this one was tragic and they need to fix it. i absolutely love that t*lbot didn't exist for a solid 95% of this movie and mary got her rightful place ruling downton. i wouldn't say i’m the biggest mary fan but her arc felt like one of the more satisfying ones of the movie imo.

as someone who has been firmly #teamedith from day one i am delighted to see my girl happy and successful. literally all her outfits were A+ and not to be gay on main but those scenes of her in her nightclothes getting ready for bed gave me my rights. i’m sad that she seems like she's either given up her magazine or has less of a role in it now based on what they said outside???? she did seem unsatisfied with aspects of her position so hopefully she'll go back to doing some writing and publishing cause that was a good fit for her, and if edith and bertie are “modern” enough to travel without servants surely edith moving away from traditional grand lady duties and back to her magazine that wouldn't be an issue. 

the mention of sybil being gone seven years? yeah. thanks for the pain. tom accidentally saving the monarchy on no less than two occasions is the ultimate "congratulations you played yourself" moment but the fact he thought the army had sent someone to check up on him is the level of republican i'm trying to be on. i'm a bit ehhhh on his relationship with lucy, mainly cause i'd rather the screentime given to the newbies had went to established characters. but like sybil/tom was a wholeass epic romantic slowburn spanning several years through a war and across class divisions n shit and meanwhile lucy/tom have known each other for forty eight hours and had three conversations in a hallway so like obviously that’s just gonna pale in comparison????? like it just is???? i guess i don't hate it but it just was a bit unnecessary and the time coulda been spent on better things.

isobel didn't have all that much to do on her own but i appreciated her scenes with violet and i love that she was the one to figure out that lucy was lady whatever's daughter. penelope wilton's facial expressions during some of the exchanges with violet were great. i see lord merton has also undergone a miraculous recovery from his apparently serious anaemia but he also didn't appear much which was a big win for me!

team downstairs aka the ones i turned up to see

as a downstairs supremacist who has watched the screentime distribution in previous fifty two eps of the show, it’s fair to say i had low expectations going in. i expected a grand total of 10 minutes for the servants combined and i think that's why i was unexpectedly happy with what we got. ideally we would've ditched the subplots involving the personal lives of the royals and all the stuff w imelda staunton and her maid but oh well it could’ve been worse and i'll take any breadcrumbs i can get. anyway i'm eagerly awaiting the team downstairs cut of the film one of yall will hopefully make when the dvd comes out. the only part that was far, FAR too upstairs heavy for me was the last sequence of the film after the royals left and i think we would've benefitted from rounding things off with team downstairs after the ball.

so i guess retirement magically cured the palsy carson had, but i guess after matthew’s miraculous recovery anything can happen at downton when it comes to health. Fellowes is getting a free pass for retconning this one cause i cba with more death/loss. mary going to carson for help and him immediately coming to her aid was very sweet. kinda wish we'd find out what he was up to post-Downton (except for his gardening) tho.

i was expected zero carson/hughes content in this movie and yet !!!! and yet!!!!!! we were somewhat well-fed. like carson (incorrectly) thinking he can control the other servants and mrs hughes' "oh that went well charlie, start as you mean to go on" hdjksjs i love them. and the lil scene in their cottage ugh. also we got more of them using their first names and yeah i guess that makes sense given they've been married for a while now but as i said, i had low expectations.

mrs hughes is still like the best person ever but wbk. her vs. the royal housekeeper = iconic. i kinda felt bad for royal whatsherface in some ways because she clearly didn't know who she was up against THE elsie hughes who has vanquished much scarier foes in her time. the other servants were never gonna win that battle.

the 0.5 seconds of baby bates *chef's kiss* perfection. god i am slightly bitter it was only 0.5 seconds given the fuckin multiseason journey leading up to his birth. tbh we should've ditched everything involving the personal lives of the rando new characters and let baby bates have some of that time but fellowes loves upstairs too much to let that happen. the small interaction was adorable though and i'm glad the mention of his name was subtle enough that we can retcon it cause i truly believe anna and bates would've came up with a more creative choice than that. genuinely i'm so curious about their whole living situation and how they cope with a smol child while working full time but i doubt fellowes even considered that so y’know. what can we do. i enjoyed the breadcrumbs but i wanted more.

i did go into this film with the mindset of "something awful will probably happen to anna or bates," cause that's what usually happens in these things but plot twist!!!! we saw them smile on multiple occassions!!!! what a nice change for us all! i swear every time anna bates smiles an angel gains their wings. her scenes with mary were good and i'm happy their friendship made it into the film. you know what else i was happy to see? the EXTREMELY UNDERRATED brotp between anna and baxter. there was a couple of moments with them standing next to each other or talking to each other and it warmed my heart. like yass two of my fave people are friends. it's a big win for me. 

i'm sure i read something about brendan being involved in another project which meant he couldn't film too much (i'm curious to whether this impacted the lack of baby bates scenes?) and while it's true that bates didn't have a ton of scenes, i didn't feel like he was absent which was good.

thomas had the best storyline imo. i don't blame him for being angry that mary brought in carson and it was actually very iconic of him to go off in the library like that. i found it hilarious that while everyone else was panicking at downton he went off on gay adventures. i really wish we'd gotten this "thomas makes a gay friend then discovers the village's underground gay scene THEN gets a boyfriend" in the show cause that would've been SO MUCH BETTER than some of the other stuff that got stretched out across the last couple series (like the love quadrangle with daisy/ivy/alfred/jimmy). like, imagine thomas’ movie plot as a series-long arc. the impact. i liked the guy that was his maybe-boyfriend and i hope any continuation keeps that relationship going.

mrs p and daisy continue to be the mother-daughter duo of the century. i thought both of them were supposed to be moving to the farm post-S6 but i suppose that would've meant they wouldn't be in the film hence why it didn't come to fruition. i guess they could all move once daisy and andy get married. mrs patmore didn't get a great deal to do but i still feel like i saw her a fair amount. comrade daisy was awesome and is definitely me when i see any monarchy-related stuff. somewhere over the last few seasons she's developed into one of the most interesting characters in downton and we don't talk about that enough. andy trashing the boiler was immature af but at the same time i feel like it completely makes sense for daisy to take that as a compliment. it’s just such a daisy thing to do?????

now, there is one thing i kinda fucked up here. while i went into the film with low expectations for everyone else, i fully expected baxley to be A Thing because how could i not and boy did i come out looking like boo boo the fool. i guess baxter and molesley have continued the tradition of Agonisingly Long Downstairs Slowburns which would be okay if we were still getting one season per year but is quite frankly rude when we're on rationed content like this. the first half of the film i thought it was gonna be revealed that they were together or something but then that scene at the end implied they're dancing around each other and my god is it frustrating. i would give so much to trade tom and lucy's romantic subplot for a baxter/molesley one but once again i know that's an unrealistic dream.

definitely not enough baxter in general but that one shot of her, anna and mrs hughes standing in the same frame was worth the price of my cinema ticket. still love molesley even tho he's a monarchist.

in terms of the overall downstairs stuff, i'm euphoric at seeing all these people interact with each other again. as we all know, found family is the best trope and since the servants are literally the epitome of that every moment focussed on them is like chicken soup for my weary soul. was the revolution against the royal servants realistic? no. was it realistic for the two people who came up with most of the plot to be the ones who went to jail for doing literally nothing wrong and would therefore want to avoid stuff that could get them in trouble with an all-powerful family? also no! however, seeing downstairs all working together for a common goal is content that appeals directly to me and i am thankful.

shoutout to the last scene which is the best way the movie could've ended it for me. use of first names AND walking home together? thank u fellowes.

tldr; team downstairs fan who was strongly anti-movie, went in with low expectations, was pleasantly surprised.  there are a shit ton of things i’d change but i just really loved seeing these characters who all mean so much to me again. obviously the only reason this film happened was for financial reasons rather than a desire to continue the storyline (cause the finale tied things up perfectly imo) but i wish they'd done a two-part miniseries instead to ensure everyone gets some screentime. two ninety minute specials every few years would work much better if everyone wants to keep downton going but i guess that doesn't bring the cash in like a movie does.

SO here are few list of high school drama I have watched! (no particular order ) Well not many new romance school dramas were done so that’s why mostly you would find old ones :

1. School 2017 - 16 episodes (2017)

Though it may not have a great story line, first half is really enjoying and unpredictable in the plot-wise but later on it just lacks a bit of story… But romance and acting wise if was fantastic esp the lead chemistry was just amazing ( kim se jong and kim junghyun’s acting omg!) that if i got bored i would skip to their scenes. Other than that even the other characters in drama are also to be looked out for. It also deals bit on bullying in Korean society like most of high-school dramas do.

2. Sassy Go Go / Cheer Up - 12 episodes  (2015)

Cheer Up! is a drama revolving around cheer-leading club in a school which focuses more on achievements based  on academic scores.( they were supposed to show more about cheer-leading tho in the drama but not as much as I expected).But the plot-line was really good and since its a short drama wasn’t draggy at all. I really loved jisoo’s and eunji’s acting. The cast was what made watch this ( Eunji, Jisoo , chae soobin ) but I ended up falling for the story and the drama.. Romance is also great amost the lead while I had SLS (nvm I almost always have lol when it’s jisoo except in swdbs but hyungsik stole my heart in swdbs :p)

3. Reply 1997 - 16 episodes (2012)

I know this is old drama ‘(2012 is quite old )but if you haven’t watched it you should definitely check it out.( even all 3 series tho not all are high school related and the story is different too  )Because the narrative itself is quite different compared to other kdramas. I absolutely love Eunji as shi ahn who is a fangirl of a boyband H.O.T. and Seo in guk as Yoon jae her childhood friend and his brother. About romance it had a quite a good amount and was really one satisfying drama I’ve watched… Oh and one more thing because the story is a narrative sort of the story is set in 1990′s and cinematography is also like that.. It’s quite funny too won’t tell much but do give it a try :)

4. A-TEEN - Webdrama (2018)

This is not a usual 1hr long 16 episode kdrama but rather awebdrama 10 - 12 min each of total 23 episode availiable on youtube. It dealswith how even 18 years old have problems they aren’t problem free be it inschool or anywhere else.I enjoyed their friendship more than anything.also hasa quirky romance in it.[ Btw the actress is shin ye eun ( from he ispsychometric ) ] You can give this a try whenever you have time but its reallynice one and actors are all are new but they really did their job well.

5. Moorim School - 16 episodes  (2016)

If you’re up for a action romance then you should definitely watch this! It is set up in a martial art school where students learn about their true self. Overall story is good and love line was like roller-coaster ride for few times to me …

But acting wise almost everyone did their job well .. I truly like lee hyunwoo and seo ye ji ( though sometimes i felt it was off ) and hongbin also did good job almost like that character was written just for him :)

I had my major SLS with sungjae’s characters Every alternate year after  School 2013 became successful we have school series lol so I guess we may get school 2019 this year?

7.The Heirs - 20 episodes (2013)

I personally didn’t like it but many of my friends have liked it so I added it here ( sometimes I can be the odd one in the group) Lee hongki’s soundtrack is one of my fav ost until now

8. Boys over Flowers - 25 episodes (2009)

I had felt it was waste of 25 hours watching this rather than that I would watch the original Japanese drama better… Because that’s just 10 or 12 episodes.. I specially didn’t like Jan Di’s character while I had loved that character tsukushi in original drama in japan. But as you may know this is one such drama which is almost everyone’s first drama. (PS: Gu jun pyo’s hair is so lol )

9. Playful Kiss - 16 episodes (2010)

Same like the BOF I like Japanese original better (Itazura Na kiss ) 

10. To the Beautiful You - 16 episodes (2012)

Again another remake from jdrama hana kimi but  I really liked this adaptation when I had watched  because of cuties lee hyunwoo,minho and kang haneul..  and the friendship element was portrayed quite fine. But now if I want to watch this I would rather pass nevertheless it’s a cute drama. I love the soundtracks in this drama! 

Other dramas without much romance :

School 2013 ,( no romance but plot is really good lee jong suk and kim woo bin did a great job here )

Dream High and Dream High 2.

I think there are very few high school drama in Korean(maybe I have watched less) but japan has loads of them lol but you can try watching the original of boys over flowers ( hana yori dango in japan) and to the beautiful you (hana kimi). Cdrama a love so beautiful (2018) is really a cute drama too :) ]

Very recently I watched a Thriller set up in high school jdrama called 3 nen A gumi it was so freaking awesome esp the plot twist ! I wish to see some kind of dramas like that in Korea too.

Anyway this looks more like review than recommendation lol sorry for long post
