Rwby beyond March 30th, any theories? What are you hoping gets explored? Please let me see team OREN, 🅱️lease

given how directly salient RH was to neo’s arc in v9, i expect the same to hold true for the CFVY novels in regard to the vacuo arc, and i think making that backstory more accessible to general/casual audiences is one of the core purposes of rwby beyond—giving cliff notes in a brief animated short is a lot less of a barrier than asking viewers to read two entire novels, even if the novels in question are quite short. a succinct recap of what went down with the crown’s insurgency prior to the broadcast and arrival of refugees from atlas + character-focused shorts giving some sense of what’s been going on with the vacuo coalition in the aftermath so that v10 can hit the ground running seems the most likely. a sort of after-credits “where are they now” for v8 but with the intention of setting the stage for v10 as opposed to tying off loose ends.

i anticipate it’ll be in a similar vein to the epilogue animatic—like a more narrative-driven world of remnant-esque series where it’s in-character exposition over a sort of slide show. (what i would ideally really like is if we got the same basic story told in a different ways by different characters, rashomon style, as a way of elaborating on the story’s themes about storytelling and the nature of truth.)

i am not holding my breath for anything to do with salem or cinder or summer, but i would be over the moon to get even the tiniest crumb of what’s happening over there given that they are Clearly Not in vacuo.

given the description of “untold stories happening in remnant during v9 and even beyond” i am wondering if the series will like, end around where the storyboard epilogue does—ie with the reunion after rwbyj return—again for the purpose of easing the narrative burden at the top of v9. i could even see it going as far as settling rwbyj into the New Normal in vacuo (as in, establishing up to the equivalent of where they’re at in rwby x jl pt 2), although that depends on how important the Explanations are narratively (the more important they are, the less likely they’ll be in rwby beyond bc you want to reserve critical scenes for the show proper)

the other possibility is that “and even beyond” means in the past, in which case we might get some “missing scene”-esque shorts set during previous volumes. which i think would be pretty neat.

i would love it if we got a spot or two focused on civilians rather than the main cast—for many reasons, vacuo is the ideal point in the narrative to start breaking down the hard boundaries between huntsmen and civilians and the CFVY novels focus quite a lot on non-huntsmen experiences, so i’m pretty optimistic that this will happen generally but i’d be stoked to directly get a glimpse through the eyes of an ordinary vacuan citizen or mantelian refugee with no connection to the plot whatsoever, and the relative low-stakes of an ancillary “untold (short) stories” series is the perfect place for that. fingers crossed.

in addition to the CFVY novels recap, i’m placing my bets on a short centered on qrow, oscar+ozma, ren, nora, emerald, winter and/or the schnees, robyn and the other happy huntresses, pietro+maria and whoever else is involved with converting amity into a battleship, arrival of aid from vale and mistral, glynda, (possibly) mercury+tyrian, and raven. plus tai if he’s left his cabin. that’s assuming like WOR-length shorts; if they’re longer then these can and probably will be combined more efficiently. but broadly speaking those are the important narrative gaps to fill in.

Thank you for the ask! Here we go:

Favorite female character? Ilia Penny Pyrrha Ruby Nora(!!!!) Emerald Weiss and most of all… maria😔she’s so fucking funny i loved her energy v6. Further explanations, Ilia has an adorable design, great voice actor and decent enough representation. Nora’s timeskip design was unmatched and she’s very quotable, plus her personality reminds me of one of my close friends irl. Ruby’s struggles in V9 (until they fucked that up) really hit with me as I’d gone through something very similar, and Penny… Penny just makes me happy. What they did with her makes me angry, but Penny makes me smile. :D

Favorite male character? I got a couple but at the moment it’s tied by Sun and Roman. Sun has fun energy and Roman is himself and iconic. Others are: James is hot and so is the bad bird BF he got by being autistic. Mercury is cool for the 5 seconds of screentime he gets every volume now. Tyrian and Watts got impeccable swag and the 5 hour long make out scene between the two of them was very interesting. Adam is cathartic and fun as hell to write my little meow meow. Jaune is best when he’s just a little loser dork, and Ren is very pretty.

Favorite Volume? Surprise surprise, Volume 3. I fucking love tournament arcs. I. Love. Tournament. Arcs.

Favorite Episode? That whole Apathy Arc in V6!!! Great horror in my opinion. I wish they’d show off more creative Grimm like that again. And as a side note, V6 is just… the best looking volume.

Favorite cast member? If they count, Jeff and Casey!! SUCH good music.

Favorite ship? *cracks knuckles* Freezerburn, Catmeleon, Monochrome, Schne//ekos, Pussy Magnet Purrah, Greek fire, nuts and dolts, Bees Schnees, Khali, Spicecream, Seamonkeys, Emercury, If there’s one between Ilia and Ruby put it here, Ginger Snaps, Arctic Winter, Silver Lotus, *looks at writings on my palm* Snow pines, Ironqrow, James x Oz, Crimsun, Strawbana, Nuts and Volts, and Rosebird. To name a few. Some might not be my favorites, these are just ones I like/like in concept. :) Character I’d die defending? Sienna fucking Khan. The whole White Fang, honestly. I do think protesting through violence against your oppressors is very swag and real actually. Plus she’s hot.

A character I can’t sympathize with? Uhhhhhh…… SALEM!!!!!!!!!! Cinder too ish but Salem mostly. Like, I feel a TINY bit bad, only because the gods are undeniably awful garbage horrible terrible. She still sucks though.

A character I grew to love? …Adam. I did not give a single shit about his decently attractive redhead ass until that reveal and his death in V6. He has become my blorbo; my skrunkly. My cringefail loser, my girly pop. Engrained within my brain like a silly silly worm. He’s fun to draw. Fun to write. REALLY fun to write. I can put him in so many situations. So many bittersweet, melancholic situations. And in so many outfits.

My Anti-otp? Ive got a couple.

Bumbl//Bee. Not my thing. Could have been, had they not continually tried making “Only disabled main character losing her arm” something “romantic” as well as paralleling said character to her partner’s… um… ex abuser? Hello?

The dress was form fitting to her body, showing off her well defined and succulent curves of her wide hips, her narrow, and slender waist, and the rounding curves of her heaving bosom. As he neared ever closer to her, he saw the plight of her problems; A zipper went from peak of her curves of her well defined cheeks, to the base of the back of her neck, and she had only managed to get it up half way, exposing her bare muscular back to him.

Jaune: Hmm~? Are you sure the zipper is supposed to go up? Your dress looks almost perfect like this. Don’t you think so?

Cinder: Ahhaha~! J-Jaune! S-Stop teasing me! We have to get going or else will be late for the… Eep?!

Jaune silenced, Cinder’s pleas as his hand went to the peak of the hill tk her butt, gently feeling her body as he toyed with her.

Jaune smiled as gazed upon her.

Jaune: Now… Now your dress looks prefect on you~!

Sienna: Oh gods…

Cinder: I-I was completely putty in his hands, there was absolutely nothing to do against him, and I love it! I have never felt so powerless before, and I absolutely love it! But, that’s not even the worst part of all of… THIS?!

Sienna: There was a bad part to all of that?!

Winter: The hell could have been bad about all of that?!

Cinder: It ended… It fucking ended!

Robyn: Oh… Oh that is the bad part…

Cinder: Girls… I know we set out to create a boytoy… One we could share, and have fun with… but, things… things have changed… We’ve created a monster… We’ve created a monster who has us all wrapped around his finger… And, I am completely fine with that!

Winter: Oh… oh no…

Robyn: We didn’t plan for this did we…

Cinder: I don’t think any of us saw this coming… we were to wrapped up in our own pleasure that we didn’t see that we were creating a monster…

this isn't a slight against anyone and i'm more or less calling myself out, but it's so funny how the brain will work when it comes to shipping. my brain will be like "we don't like marrow x weiss or winter or robyn because it's racist" but will then turnaround and ship cardin/velvet or roman/blake or ship ships where one character has murdered the other. why do you think that is from a psychological perspective? is it because cardin/roman are acknowledged as racist while the others aren't?

essentially yeah wheeze. roman & cardin are called out as being racist by the narrative & by their fans so with that accountability, there is the chance there for genuine change in their narratives.

whereas with weiss, winter & robyn, their own racist history / background is not acknowledged by the show & downplayed or erased by the fans, so there's less of that leeway because you can't get over that roadhill.

the same way that people can ship enemies to lovers in the show with like ruby & cinder, but not ship blacksun or bumbleby because blake has exhibited abusive behaviours that're never acknowledged by the show, so it kind of sticks in the throat. cinder's behaviour to ruby is expected because they're enemies, but we don't expect blake to emotionally abuse her love interests or physically assault them & it feels wrong to just. accept that as something she does.

Ruby - you have written a 20 page analysis about how she is NOT a bland protagonist and meticulously analyze every expression she makes as a sign of her inevitable breakdown.

Weiss - You were either on board since day 1, or joined the Weiss stans during volume 4. either way, you have a soft spot for tsunderes.

Blake - you ship bumblebee

Yang - you also ship bumblebee.

Jaune - either you love his character arc about overcoming Pyrrha’s death and becoming a competent support fighter to help his friends, or you ship him with every female that moves and think he’s a harem protag who gets all the ladies.

Any ship with the main cast of kiddos or Penny, Mercury, Cinder, Emerald etc. Clover is middle age. I’m not shipping him with anybody in the 15-23 age range.

Elm Everdeen and Clover Ebi are best buds for life and you can’t take this away from me. They are gym bros. Clover is Elm’s spotter on the bench press. Clover spoke at Elm’s and Vine’s wedding. Elm saw the attraction between Clover and Qrow from miles away and was the first on the team teasing Clover about it. They are best buds for life. I will die on this hill.
