Honestly, every time I read a new contemporary romance book, I'm reminded of all the reasons I love romantasy (even if I'm also loving the contemporary one).

There's a freedom in romantasy that just doesn't exist within contemporary romance, since the latter obviously reflects real life.

Everyday stressors can exist in romantasy, but the resolution is generally much easier. For example, if you find yourself in extreme poverty, simply find yourself a Fae sugar daddy or two and get your whole family bankrolled by them.

You [usually] can't legally do anything about people you hate who hold power over you in real life. You can feed them to death gods in romantasy.

If you want to take a sexy swim or bath in the magical forest stream with your beloved, you can do so without fear of "being arrested" or, "indecent exposure."

You often get to be hot and immortal and powerful in romantasy whereas you have some clown concepts like income taxes in real life.

5 star reads of 2024 ↳ tangled up in you by christina lauren

Finally got to read "Tangled Up in You" by Christina Lauren and loved it!!! 🥰 It's part of Disney's adult rom-com novel series where they're making modern day versions of the animated movies. This one was "Tangled" and I loved how the writers were able to modernize the story but also still follow the movie, and how they wrote Rapunzel/Ren and Flynn/Fitz. So many great pop culture references too as she's getting used to the modern world after living in a very small town. Also tagging Haladriel as I think my fellow shippers will love this as we consider "Tangled" a similar type of story, since this also felt like one of our modern day AU fanfics too, and there's cute scenes where Ren says she feels she grew up in The Shire and loves the LOTR books and Fitz, who sadly didn't grow up like that, introduces her to the movies and they watch them together.

Probably the prettiest book I own. It has been on my tbr for the longest time. I really hope I’ll get out of this reading slump soon.
