I've learned recently through much pain and introspection that self-love doesn't have to involve denying or metering that love out to others.
I was always taught to consider others before myself, to be selfless and giving. That there is a finite amount of love within me, that I must budget it, and to direct it inward is a narcissistic and selfish waste. I was taught that god's plan for me was to flay myself at the feet of the less fortunate.
I now feel that this methodology is more toxic, shameful and counterproductive than anything else.
I want to focus on myself and become a model of healing for others who struggle. I want to love myself through my care for others. I want to care for others because I am able to take care for myself.
I want to shower myself in so much love that it spills over into the cup of everyone around me.

4 Days Until May 14 1948
This date marks the 76th year of the Israeli oppression against Palestine. This date marks the day Israel drove out over 750, 000 people from their homeland to establish its "state".
This heinous event was called al-Nakba (the catastrophe, the disaster). This heinous event was the start of this genocide.
It did not start on October 7th 2023. It stared on May 14 1948. It. has. still. not. ended.
The Nakba did not end in 1948. It is still happening today, right at this very second.
The numbers are growing. Every. Second.
This is the day you remember the corporations that fund the genocide. This is the day you remember the governments that cheer-on the genocide. This is the day you remember how the west instigated hate-crimes towards Arabs. This is the day you remember how the west and Israel are the terrorists. This is the day you remember the millions of people who had been killed for ethnic cleansing.
This is the day you always remember. This is the day you never forget.
This is the day you cry for Palestine. This is the day you scream for Palestine.
This is the day you remind everyone of the country of Palestine. You must never stop talking about Palestine. Never.
Palestinian lives matter. Stand up for the ones that died and the ones that live. Show us you care.
Do not dare forget:
May 14 1948
If you want to help Palestine with financial aid, but don't have any money, there's a website called arab.org that donates for you with just one click of a button.
Please, do your part for Palestine.

She-Ra PoP vs Arcane S2
Physically disabled character considered inferior by his society, abandoned instead of being helped
Technological genius who benefits from having a partner
Uses technology to improve his health and quality of life
Becomes fundamentally altered by a force outside his control (with Christian and cult references)
And now here's where She-Ra and Arcane's messages diverge: Hordak is consistently supported and loved by his partner throughout his journey. She doesn't let up when he tries to hide his pain from her.
She does NOT tell him that he is wrong to try to "fix" himself and actively helps him do so. She recognizes the validity of how he choses to deal with his condition, which was caused by genetic "imperfections" during the cloning process. But she impresses upon him that he does not deserve the physical pain or mental torment of being a "failure".
Her message was that his imperfections do not limit him or define him. They are a part of life, part of the world, and a part of him, and he is not a failure for having them.
Meanwhile in Arcane, Jayce criticizes Viktor for "wanting to cure what he thought were weaknesses" and specifically mentions his leg and disease. The two things that brought him chronic pain, progressively deteriorating quality of life, and one would ultimately kill him. Also, Viktor never actually expressed that he was ashamed of them. We as the audience are left to assume that's how he feels, because why wouldn't he? What else would a disabled person feel? Not that he is perfectly aware that Piltover's oppression and exploitation of his people likely directly contributed to both those issues. Not that he values himself for his intellect and contributions to Hextech even though society constantly prioritized Jayce. Nope, obviously he feels so bad about it that he tries to turn all of humanity into robots. On top of that, Christian Linke has explicitly said the Hexcore corrupted him and Sky was a manifestation of it manipulating him. So even if he did feel that way before, he's still not at fault for what's been going on.
And I think a key part of this is the mindset of the team who created this show. Was this simply a poorly executed but positive sentiment, or a symptom of ableist bias from a team of 3 able-bodied people? We can harp on Jayce all we want, but ultimately someone designed him this way, and THIS is what I take issue with. Christian also says in the art book explicitly that Viktor fixing his leg and spine make him lose part of his humanity. If this is the logic behind Jayce's monologue, it is NOT positivity. It is a direct shaming of a disabled person's right to choose how they take care of themselves, said by a character who has already violated Viktor's autonomy and wishes, written by a team that equates self-improvement with inferior humanity.
Amanda Overton has repeatedly mentioned she was inspired by She-Ra, which is pretty obvious here. Unfortunately, this isn't the unequivocally positive message she thinks it is, and she missed all the nuance of Entrapta and Hordak's conversations about it. A huge component of why it works in She-Ra is because Entrapta's wisdom comes from her understanding of her own "failures" and "imperfections" due to her autism, and Hordak reciprocates support throughout the show. One of the key members of her development team is an autistic person who provided a realistic view of what an autistic person can be like.
This is two people who understand each other's pain uplifting each other, NOT Entrapta being Hordak's miraculous savior at the 11th hour. Having Jayce need a leg brace for like 5 minutes does not give him ability to understand Viktor's lifelong struggles that were also killing him.
For future seasons, I hope they bring on staff who actually have any idea what they are fucking talking about.

"I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces are never covered with shame." Psalm 34:4-5
How often we struggle with memories of our past. Shame and regret fills our heart. Peter denied knowing Christ. Not once but thrice. Imagine the guilt and remorse Peter would have felt. But when Jesus met him and the other disciples on the shores of Galilee, Jesus didn't mention a word about his failure. Instead, He went on to serve them the meal He had cooked for them . He knew they wouldn't have eaten. He knew they needed physical nourishment, He knew they needed reassurance from Him.
Jesus knows exactly how you feel. He knows you love Him. He knows you have failed Him. But He's willing to help you. When you look to Him, He will remove your pain, your shame and give you hope and a future. He will use you to give comfort and hope to the hopeless.
Just as Peter was rescued from desperation, despair and shame and used for His kingdom, Jesus can rescue and restore you completely.

I say, "Ableism is bad." You say, "Ableists all live in their mom's basements and don't contribute anything to society!"
I say, "Misogyny is bad." You say, "Fuck all men."
I say, "Homophobia is bad." You say, "All religious people should be shot in the streets."
I say, "Racism is bad." You say, "White people are the devil."
I say, "Murder is bad." You say, "I hate any idiotic bitch who disagrees with this."
I say, "Body shaming is bad." You say, "Everyone who disagrees is ugly and has small dick energy."
I say, "Fascism is bad." You say, "Yeah, kill all nazis!"
To which I say: you do not know why ableism, misogyny, homophobia, racism, murder, and body shaming, and fascism are wrong.
Go, go and meditate on why these things are wrong and don't come back until you arrive at the answer.

Imagine if Machete was Muslim instead of Catholic. His name would be something like Saif سيف, and Vasco would probably be something like Dhahabi ذَهَبِيّ
.
#I don't know Arabic so I can't weigh in that much but if you say so!#it seems like these mean “sword” and “golden respectively that's neat#Machete wouldn't be able to cling to his Catholic guilt in that case#I don't think Islam has the same concept of original sin that Christianity does#I'm simplifying but it's a belief that humans are born with an innate tendency for evil sinning is part of our nature#and staying on the positive and in God's good graces requires a lot of repentance which can lead to excess guilt and shame#I could be wrong but I'm under the impression that this idea of a manufacturing error is a very Christian thing#sorry I know you didn't sign up to hear me try to talk about big theology things and I don't want to make it weird#but I find this stuff really interesting I unironically like to read and think about how religions work#and how they shape things they come in contact with#in Machete's case in particular his troubled relationship with God and his career choice are big parts of his character#and why he turned the way he did and thinks the way he does you know#answered#kachavashka#Dhahabi is such a regal sounding name#I'd steal that in a heartbeat if I didn't already have one extremely gold-coded character

Why I cuss (affectionately) at my deities, sometimes, and why it's important to me
I'm having some feelings tonight, so here have another "Frog is rambling again" post. This one's about Loki, because they seem intent on speedrunning teaching me shit. Seriously it's been like three weeks.
I wasn't prepared for what working with Loki actually looks like. /pos
Because what that actually looks like, apparently, is sitting watching a comedy anime and getting the distinct vibe that it has a sense of humor that Loki enjoys. And then realizing that's because Loki is actively hanging around... watching fuckin' anime with me. Why the hell would Loki want to watch a dumb comedy anime with the funny little guy he works with?
Seeing a post about watching comedy as a devotional act to Loki later felt intentional, so I ended up deciding to do just that.
Thing is, I grew up exposed to the idea that God is an all-powerful being who deserves nothing less than the best and humans are the scum of the earth. I'm only now seeing that it's been damaging my relationship with my deities. I'm afraid to just chat with them 'too casually.' I apologize if I feel like I said something that's too disrespectful. I've apologized to Loki multiple times because he pulled some shit and my response was "god damnit Loki" or "you motherfucker."
And then they remind me that I call my mom the same thing, and she laughs. It's the same with my friends. All because it's not insulting, or disrespectful, it's a sign of affection. I would never say that and mean it; they know that, so it's funny. It's playful.
Amongst many other things, Loki is teaching me that joy is to be valued. This world tells us that it's dumb, childish, or any other assortment of negative descriptors- and that it has no place in spirituality. Certainly no place in the presence of a god- and that's fucking sad. I think Loki is sad about it too. I think Loki's fucking pissed, actually. How dare we be made to feel shame for what makes us happy. The gods deserve to partake in our joy and our fun just as much as they deserve to be part of our sorrow and fear.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm starting to think that hanging out with some fucker who's scrolling through memes and blasting music might just be a nice change of pace for them.
#I dunno#I just feel like we feel so much shame about what we take joy in#and our deities are just blocked off from that part of our life#or at least that's my experience rn#like actually I think I've been doing them a grave disservice by not allowing them to know the parts of me that do “dumb stuff”#that's one of my favorite parts of life#and of my friendships#knowing the joy we take in “dumb” things#witchcraft#paganism#paganblr#witchblr#eclectic pagan#pagan#pagan witch#witch community#deity work#loki deity#loki devotee#norse gods#norse pantheon#norse paganism#christianity tw#tw religion

catholic guilt is one thing but southern baptism shame is a whole different monster i don’t see many people talking about
#thoughts#i get tired of certain religious narratives written by people#where they take the aesthetics and the motifs and the idea of Christianity#but it’s kind of a surface level exploration of religious guilt#southern baptism shame. and ive seen this. genuinely makes people want to kill themselves#would love to write about it one day#not to say one is worse than the other but if you grew up around fire and brimstone people like i did youd Understand#it is a very specific pain. especially if you somehow deviate from the very small box you are expected to be in#that kind of shame DOES kill#southern baptism is very very evil. and the Bible Belt is a very evil place to live sometimes because of it.

@kindn35s hey dipshit the old lady you're referring to is one of the only people in this county who DIDN'T vote for Trump, in this election or any other, and the only person i grew up around who told me to support unions and labor rights; she was physically disabled before the fire, and now as a result moreso, as well as coping with PTSD. the tumblr user you're being condescending to with your lame, tired, self-righteous twitter Gotcha-ass replies was one of the only openly trans, anti-racist and anti-fascist youth activists in the area attending our local high school during the 2016 election. I watched my peers and teachers actively becoming radicalized by fascists, got sent to the office for tearing down Confederate flags when my former friends started showing up with them on their trucks, but you arrogantly and ignorantly think that being born middle-class and/or in a more fashionable part of the world means you're somehow more progressive or enlightened while gleefully laughing at actual oppressed people dying and losing everything.
most of the victims of that fire who also lost their homes and/or livelihoods were also people of color, since here like in most of the poor rural South most of the population is made up of a diversity of poor people, but with most of the land and political power held by people with the $ to insulate themselves from natural disasters like the Smokehouse Creek Fire. if you bothered to learn anything about anything before opening your mouth and acting like a piece of shit, you'd already know that.
from your dumbshit classist liberal blog:
yankee libs really are all the same! "kindness" my Texan ass. democrats continue to lose elections directly because of people like you, not because of people like my family or the other victims of this tragedy, least of all my PROGRESSIVE grandmother. I take it back, a bullet's too good for you, why don't you go ahead and either burn your own house down and die there like old lady who died in this fire, or walk right out of your car into flames like the Hispanic (butch lesbian, I'm pretty sure) woman whose horrific death you're also mocking.
#kindn35s#smokehouse creek fire#the MAGA dipshit who posted that video blocked me so i couldnt reply there but fuck it#this person deserves to be publicly shamed for this#fucking liberals#my gma wouldnt approve of me saying any of this bc shes Christian (bless her heart) but lucky for me IM NOT.

If you think God can't handle your suicidal thoughts, your self-harm, your traumas, your darkest feelings, your guilt and shame, and your past, then your view of God is too small. Nothing, and I mean nothing is too much for God. You, and all your burdens, are welcomed by God. There is no other safe place than in His loving arms.
