Alright. That's the last of the 1e Shadowrun scans. This weekend I'm gonna scan some new stuff. Most of the next HELIOGENOMS doujinshi pages are cleaned so that'll definitely be up soon, maybe even this evening. I'm gonna skin the that GG 4koma volume and I've got something non-Guilty Gear on the table to be scanned too. Hope you guys like warrior biker babes with skull-crushing biceps.
#textpost#Looking at my bookshelf and I got all kinds of wild shit I could scan and post on here#Stuff I know for a fact are not online anywhere. Out of print '80s comix... a 1990s book on 1980s graphic design...#A REALLY nice hardback copy of The Art of War that's also got Bushido and the Book of Five Rings in it#With a section on Chinese and Japanese (& Korean?) history. Some incredible art and photos in it#But it weighs a fuckton. Not sure if my scanner could handle it haha#I actually read this whole thing but it was in my sleep deprivation era so I can't remember a single part of it. Awful

book from the sky (tianshu) xu bing, 1989-91
I was so excited to see a copy of this in real life bc it's something I studied in art history. this is a book that was typeset and printed by hand using wooden blocks but every one of the characters was invented for the sake of the piece and does not correspond to any word in the Chinese language

Hi Devo! If it's okay to call you that, I just wanted to say I'm a big big fan of your work and you made me fall in love with your silly doodles and masterpieces. First time sending in an ask considering how long I've been following you but I've gathered to courage to write my little love letter to you. I just wanted to ask how you color/render and how you study art? I love how your colors flow seamlessly into one another, and how your art just tickles my brain.
Anyways! Kuuya is so boyfailure and I love him but Asa. OH MY GOD ASA.
I want him so bad it's uncanny. His ears are so cute I just want to bite them. I want to unlock new things inside him. I want to do things to him. Literally all your submissive and breedable ocs will make me drool like a dog. Kuuya was my first love but Asa will be my last. I will kidnap him, carry him bridal style while he's in a wedding dress, and then kiss him silly. He will work at home and will make silly little things for the bedroom /hj.
(我想要对他做一些难以启齿的事情。我希望他属于我,让他崇拜我。我真想揪他的头发,让他发牢骚。他是我可爱的狗。)
Thank you so much for all the kind words...!! here's a wedding dress asa for all your troubles
putting the art questions under the cut!
I've addressed a little bit on giving out advice for coloring here, and tbh im surprised you think my colors flow together well because i pick my colors pretty haphazardly LOL but generally speaking, nowadays my usual line of thinking is “how do i express [a certain shade of color] without using that exact shade of color”. Like if im coloring an apple then im thinking about all the colors except red that i can be using.
as for studying art, sometimes id straight up copy and paste other artists’ work into csp myself and re-trace anatomy/ action lines over it, colorpick it etc etc to really get a feel for their techniques. of course, this is all kept to myself privately. sometimes i also draw things specifically with the goal of emulating said techniques, like “for this piece im going to draw clothing folds like how X artist does it” etc
akjdfjksjsjd i hope all that makes sense / is useful! thank u for likin my stuff 🥺
p.s. i can read chinese and your little passage has not moved me in the slightest /lh

not only langblr music resources
people irl often ask me where the heck i find the music i listen to, so i figured i might as well make a handy resource masterpost!
Radio Garden: Listen to radio stations all over the world. You can save your favourite stations, explore radio playlists, and search for stations in specific countries or cities. Love this one. You can download the app (android and apple) or listen via your preferred browser.
Radiooooo: Lets you choose a country, a decade, and a 'genre' (slow, fast, or weird) to listen to. You can download the app (android and apple) or listen via your preferred browser.
Charts: Charts can be tricky if you're looking for music in a specific language since there are multiple languages present in most country specific charts. It is nevertheless worth checking them out. Spotify charts or Top 40 Charts are your places to go.
Tunefind: Heard a song in a film or tv show that you enjoy but can't find it in the credits? This is the website for you! I use it when shazam fails me or when I'm at the cinema and can't use it or w/e. The songs sometimes come with a description of the corresponding scene for easy checking. Just very handy to have on hand.
Last.fm: Copy this link template: https://www.last.fm/tag/[nationality]/artists and replace [nationality] with a nationality you want to explore, e.g. "french", "chinese" etc.
Wikipedia: Type into the search bar "music of [country]", e.g. "music of slovakia", "music of botswana" etc.
Local events: Check for concerts etc. in your area. I know this is not an option for everyone for a bunch of reasons, but if it is for you, visiting local concerts can be a gold mine. I got like ten whole new songs in spanish and one in rapanui from one event I went to (it was like a culture fest with singing, dancing, and poetry). Also listening to live music just connects you differently to the art imo.
Friends & Acquaintances: Last but not least; sometimes my nosiness beats my social anxiety and I simply ask people what they like to listen to. If I'm being extra confident, I ask if they listen to music in languages other than english. Go forth and ask people about their music, go go go!!
Spotify specific recs:
Every Noise At Once: Sounds overwhelming - and tbh it can be. For this reason I personally prefer to look at 'Genres by Country', although there are many other interesting playlists to look at, such as 'We Built This City On' or 'The Sounds of Places'. You can find more if you scroll all the way to the bottom. Unfortunately, due to the layoff of the creator of this site, some features are not available anymore. This website is entirely based on Spotify.
LindsayDoesLanguages. Individual language playlists + more
Shameless self promo - my own account with individual language playlists. Also on YouTube !
700+ Languages. A playlist by Matthew Bofenkamp that contains one (1) song per language, and as it says on the tin, Matthew has so far collected songs in over 700 languages. Might be a good starting point for more music in your language of interest! Accompanying g0ogle spreadsheet with youtube links here.
One Song in Every Language. A community playlist by looky_dooky that aims to collect one song in every language. Everyone with a spotify account can contribute.
Another research tip: If you're on desktop, a good way to find language specific playlists is to go to any artist's profile and scroll down to the "Discovered on" section, then click "show all". Voilà!
(These showed up when I visited Haleluya Tekletsadik's page)
#. these are all i can think of rn#. might update accordingly#. also i simply assumed everyone knows what shazam is so i left it out#. anyway ! yeet.#langblr#resources#language resources#music resources#music#l#r.txt

I celebrate AMERICAN CHRISTMAS. The Spanish celebrate SPANISH CHRISTMAS, known as NAVIDAD. Germans celebrate GERMAN CHRISTMAS, known as WEIHNACHTEN. Italians celebrate ITALIAN CHRISTMAS, known as NATALE. Each tradition has different customs known by different names yet idiots on the internet would have you IGNORE all of them and say "MERRY CHRISTMAS" instead in favor of some vague gesturing at "INCLUSIVITY."
Jesus man, relax.
#copying from op tags:#relax.#this was in response to me saying “lunar new year” on the rarity art#personal#delete later#what in insane nonproblem to get this angry about#i asked my parents (taiwanese immigrants) about this and they said we use either but prefer lunar new year#because it's inclusive to koreans and cambodians and vietnamese people and so much more who celebrate on the same day#lunar new year is an umbrella term same as “happy holidays.” this person is basically getting mad i said happy holidays instead of#merry christmas.#my family and i identify more as taiwanese than chinese so. we're not gonna say chinese new year much anyways#i sent this to my mom btw and she replied with basically “die mad i guess.” love you ma#this literally doesn't matter anyways i could have said “chinese new year” to caption that post and it wouldn't have mattered#the only reason i didn't is because i plan on drawing another art including carol (coco pommel) who's korean and celebrates the same day#like. most people in china/taiwan don't care they just say “happy new year” cuz it's the fuckin new year. someone saying lunar new year is#not erasure it's not flattening asian identities into a monolith. it's just an umbrella term.#anyways happy lunar new year happy chinese new year happy tet happy spring festival happy seollal#like i cannot stress enough to you guys that these holidays are on the exact same day and celebrate basically the same exact thing.#this is not an issue.

The Ainu people are an indigenous ethnic group residing in the northern parts of the Japanese archipelago, including what is today known as Hokkaido and the Tōhoku region of Honshu. Their ancestors date back to the Paleolithic (35,000 – 13,500 BCE) and Jomon periods (13,500 – 400 BCE).
This accordion style album is a copy of Ishūretsuzō (夷酋列像), also known as A Series of Paintings of Ainu Chieftains. It is a series of twelve painted portraits of Ainu elders who helped suppress the Menashi–Kunashiri rebellion in 1789 by siding with the Wajin (ethnic Japanese people, also called Yamato people). The original portraits were completed in 1790 by the Japanese artist Kakizaki Hakyō (1764–1826) and was received by the imperial court in Kyoto in 1791. The album includes a portrait of an elderly woman named Chikiriashikai, the mother of the chieftain Ikotoi, also pictured in the album.
Tan Yi-Ern Samuel, Ph.D. student in the Department of History of Art and Architecture, is looking at this album for his paper in Professor Yukio Lippit’s seminar on East Asian Portraiture, taught with curator of Chinese painting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Joseph Scheier-Dolberg. Today, we opened the album to look at it in its standing accordion style. The clothing worn and other accoutrements including animal fur depicted in the portraits show the connections between the Ainu, the Wajin, China, and Russia during that time.
The Ainu people are one of the few ethnic minorities native to the Japanese islands. They have been subjected to forced assimilation and colonization by the Japanese since at least the 18th century or earlier. Their ancestors, referred to as Emishi, were pushed to the northern islands by Wajin since the 9th century. The portraits of Ainu elders in this album reveal how they might have been fashioned in the imagination of the Wajin in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Do you have any other drawings of Redboy (JTTW ver)? I absolutely love your design for him, and the henna is a beautiful touch, I'd love to see more if you have any other drawings of him! :)
I also wanted to know how you came up with your design for him, and what inspired different aspects of his design?
(I really admire you btw and your art is so beautiful!)
Thank you! Red boy is based a lot off of where I set him in the story. To me, Princess Iron Fan is Bengali and Demon Bull King is southern Chinese.
I believe he’s a total mommas boy since she misses him so much when Wukong meets her, so the pants and henna come from his love for her. I really really need to work on his design more, I’m not entirely happy with his outfit and I need to change his hair, but he’s still my cutie.
A lot of how I draw Red Son in LMK comes from my JTTW design for him, like his horns and tail, so I definitely need to mix it up haha. Truth be told, I’m actually nervous about showing my JTTW work here, since people have already started copying my designs for certain characters, but I suppose it can’t be helped haha.

Amazing fanart by Joanacchi! Posted here on tumblr with their blessing. Each one is based on a style that reflects a particular ancient culture's art history. (See below for descriptions provided by the artist!)
Store (buy these prints!) Twitter Instagram
Aang: Tibetan Thangka
"Thangkas are traditional Tibetan tapestries that have been used for religious and educational purposes since ancient times! The techniques applied can vary greatly, but they usually use silk or cotton fabrics to paint or embroider on. What you can depict in a Thangka is really versatile, and I wanted to represent things that make up Aang as a character."
Zuko and Azula: Japanese Ukiyo-e
"Ukiyo-e is a style that has been around Japan between the 17th and 19th century, and focused mainly in representing daily life, theater(kabuki), natural landscapes, and sometimes historical characters or legends!
Ukiyo-e was developed to be more of a fast and commercial type of art, so many drawings we see are actually woodblock prints, so the artist could do many copies of the same art!
I based my Zuko and Azula pieces on the work of Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798-1861) one of the last ukiyo-e masters in Japan! He has a specific piece which featured a fire demon fighting a lord that fought back with lighting, and that really matched Zuko and Azula's main techniques!”
Toph: Chinese Portraiture from Ming and Qing Dynasties
"Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) was one of the longest in China! It was also a period where lots of artistic evolutions were happening, especially when it comes to use of colour! There was not a predilection for portraits during this time, but there are a lot of pieces depicting idealized women and goddesses from the standards of the time. For this portrait of Toph, I imagined something that maybe their parents commissioned, depicting a soft and delicate Toph which we know is not what she is about ♥️
Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) was the last Chinese Dynasty to reign before the Revolution. One of the most famous emperors of this period was Qianlong, and he really liked Western art! He commissioned a lot of portraits of his subordinates, and I chose a portrait of one of his bodyguards as a reference for the second Toph portrait, which I believe is much more like how she would want to be represented! The poem on top talks about the bodyguards' achievements during a specific war. I had no time to come up with a poem for Toph, so I just used the same one for the composition!”
Sokka and Katara: Inuit Lithograph
"For a long time, Inuit art expressed itself in utilitarian ways. The Nomadic lifestyle of early Inuit tribes played a huge part in that: most art pieces are carved in useful tools, clothing, or children's toys, small and easy to be transported, and depicted scenes and patterns representing their daily lives!
That changed a lot during the colonization. Since the settling of the Inuit tribes, many art pieces began to be created in order to be exported to foreigns, so they started to sculpt bigger and more decorative pieces.
Lithography, which is a type of printmaking, was introduced to Inuit people by James Houston, that learned the technique from the japanese. The art form was quickly embraced by the inuit, as part of the process is very similar to carving. Prints that are produced by inuit artists are still being sold today!
As lithography is not an old art style and it's still commercially relevant to the Inuit communities, since creating these in 2021 I have been donating regularly to the Inuit Art Foundation, not only all the money I get from selling some prints of these but a bit more, at least once a year. Hopefully, I can increase donations this year!”

Xavier’s representative flower is Forget-me-not. Not wavyleaf sea lavender.
bringing this directly from a community of Xavier Stans on twitter, they've urged us all to come together and mass email Infold and Papergames on their customer support as well as emails about this mistranslation.
This mistranslation not only spoils the overall consistency of Xavier's character and story but also hinders the players' immersion to a point where Xavier girls would rather not see his flower being mentioned at all.
Please COPY the template provided below, attach all the 9 images as is posted in this post, and send emails to the following ids as well as their in-game customer support.
Template to be sent to their email at:
[email protected] for devz
Subject: Change Xavier’s flower in English to forget-me-not
We as the players of Love and Deepspace are once again reaching out to you due to a pressing mistranslation issue in the English version of Love and Deepspace.
(In the following, please view the pictures below for reference.)
In Xavier‘s recent birthday event (Timeless Days, My Fridge, dialogue for ingredient Starry Blossoms: „Wavyleaf Sea Lavender‘s Meaning“) the flower associated with him is once again mistranslated as wavyleaf sea lavender when it is clear that his representative flower is supposed to be forget-me-not as displayed in official art (picture 1), the ingame love timeline (pictures 2-4) and on his birthday cake (picture 5).
In the Timeless Days event the Chinese version mentions the forget-me-not flower (星辰花) and thus, also correctly refers to its meaning: eternal love (永恒的爱) (picture 6).
However, the English version states instead that wavyleaf sea lavender symbolizes eternal love which is simply wrong (picture 7). This once again proves that forget-me-not is the intended flower during this event and therefore, has been mistranslated the entire time.
Forget-me-not was even officially used by your team as the translation for 星辰花 before it got changed to the wrong one! (picture 8)
We believe the mistranslation is caused due to the fact that the Chinese word 星辰花 can refer to both wavyleaf sea lavender as well as forget-me-not (picture 9). But by now, it should be evident that the more suitable translation for Xavier‘s flower is forget-me-not because it is constantly visualized as such.
We have already tried to make you aware of this translation issue for an absurdly long time and are tired of seeing the same mistake over and over again. Now we‘ve gotten to a point where we only feel frustration and annoyance every time we see Xavier‘s representative flower mentioned. This should not be the experience for us players who should feel happy about the beautiful meaning of his flower.
So now we must ask you:
Are you still not aware of the mistranslation issue regarding Xavier‘s representative flower despite all the desperate attempts on our part to get your attention?
Do you still insist on wavyleaf sea lavender being the correct translation despite all the evidence shown to you?
Or do you simply not care?
We hope that you will finally correct this mistake and that we no longer have to fight for something as simple as this.
Best regards,
the players of Love and Deepspace
For Customer Support, open the game, then head to the settings and follow the steps as shown in pics below:
Then COPY AND PASTE this template for customer support in-game: (add the same 9 images for email and send)
