Unhinged things adults said to me when I was a kid/early teen
(Part 1)
Adult: lots of babies are born in the fall because when it gets cold out, couples cuddle in bed and then things happen.
Me: *awkward laughter*
Adult: No, I'm serious.

got this ad on Instagram being like "is your child a bully? use our app to help keylog their phone to ensure they're not cyberbullying anyone" which simply what the fuck
(they did suggest other actions like conversations, leading by example by treating other people with respect and kindness, and counselling)
but idk keylogging a kid because they may be cyberbullying is strange and also there's definitely going to be people that then use that feature as a way to spy on their kids for other reasons
like yes bullying is bad and we should try to stop instances of it but I think that either your child is too young to have unrestricted/unsupervised but keylogged online activity or they are old enough that they might be having conversations that are private (but not necessarily bullying) and either way you're teaching them that it's okay for someone to have complete access to everything they type and that their privacy isn't something they're fully allowed to have

A lot of people around me are having kids and every day it becomes more apparent that hitting your children to punish them is insane because literally everything can be a horrible punishment in their eyes if you frame it as such.
Like, one family makes their toddler sit on the stairs for three minutes when he hits his brother or whatever. The stairs are well lit and he can see his family the whole time, he’s just not allowed to get up and leave the stairs or the timer starts over. He fucking hates it just because it’s framed as a punishment.
Another family use a baseball cap. It’s just a plain blue cap with nothing on it. When their toddler needs discipline he gets a timeout on a chair and has to put the cap on. When they’re out and about he just has to wear the cap but it gets the same reaction. Nobody around them can tell he’s being punished because it’s in no way an embarrassing cap, but HE knows and just the threat of having to wear it is enough.
And there isn’t the same contempt afterwards I’ve seen with kids whose parents hit them. One time the kid swung a stick at my dog, his mother immediately made him sit on the stairs, he screamed but stayed put, then he came over to my dog and gently said “Sorry Ellie” and went back to playing like nothing happened, but this time without swinging sticks at the nearby animals.

Summer holidays are the perfect time to get children interested in gardening and outdoors. One way to keep your kids entertained and engaged is by involving them in planting and caring for a garden.

The Seeds We Plant Series #14: Health and Wellness
Hi there! I hope all is well with you and yours! As we age, it’s common to look for healing outside of ourselves. We become reactive instead of proactive, suffering when we don’t need to suffer. All of this happens when we forget who we are and the function of our bodies. In today’s podcast, I share ways to help sew the seeds of health and wellness in our children. Yes, it’s important to get…

Problem #1 regarding child abuse is that a lot of people seem to struggle to imagine normal, respectable-looking parents and other authority figures ever doing it despite the statistics so instead they do the stranger danger panic and completely overlook some of the greatest threats.
Problem #2 is that even when people understand, even if in an abstract way, that parents can be abusive they just... don't seem to actually register that as something that can apply to real life. It's just hypothetical to them and doesn't actually guide their ideas of how to prevent child abuse.
Problem #3 is that even after overcoming the above biases a lot of people have a very narrow image of what abusive parenting is where they imagine like... people doing violent things basically out of sadism and without provocation. They don't seem to think it's "real" abuse if the victim did something that "justifies" punitive violence, like disobeying the parents.
In fact, most people think parents have a right to do a whole lot of awful things to their children beyond just hitting them, like violating their privacy, controlling their access to information, and deciding what/when/if they eat, among other things.

one thing that will always be funny to me about batfam is that jason is forever convinced that dick is bruce's favorite child while all of his siblings know for sure that bruce's favorite child is actually jason
some random reporter: who's your favorite child?
bruce: how DARE YOU imply that i play favorites, i love ALL of my children equally
dick, without missing a bit: oh he absolutely plays favorites, it was jason
tim: rest in peace

whenever right wing people talk about “parental rights” they are talking about property rights. they are arguing for further political and legal enshrinement of their children as their literal actual property

Fun fact: Wendy and Soos got 'hired' as Ford's unofficial lab assistants completely by accident! Soos kind of just. Attached himself to Ford, kind of similarly as he did with Stan.
Meanwhile, Wendy was recruited a little later when her friends dared her to enter the notorious "Mystery Shack" of the ever elusive Stanford Pines, mad scientist and eater of children (at least according to the rumors). When she discovered that Ford was just. Some nice guy, she felt bad and offered to help him clean up the mess she made by breaking in, and stuck around ever since :]
