1900-1949
This is part of a series in which I am posting clips of my larger project by decade as I finish them. For more about this project, or to ask me to include your doll or OC, check out my pinned post.
Previous posts:
17th century
1700-1739
1740-1769
1770-1799
1800-1849
1850-1899
The OCs in this post that are mine are Hannah and Delia, He-Mei and Florence, Gertrude and Mabel, Hattie and Mattie, Diya and Medha, and Bernice and Lawrence (they're in pairs because I did the Best Friends series based on @americangirlstar's suggestions, and in the process created a Best Friend for each of my own characters). Aoife, Francesca, and Honoka belong to @autistickirstenlarson, Lilyann belongs to @kirstenlarsons, Violette belongs to @getintothesun, Charlotte belongs to @gardner-n-pardner, Hope belongs to @Lorsdolladventures, Francie belongs to @futuristicsaladparadise, Alice belongs to @mapleleagirls, and Adrienne belongs to @addywalkerstan. If you'd like your historical doll or OC included in this project, HERE'S THE LINK; more detail about that at the end.
While putting together previous installations I became aware that I have the birth dates wrong for several of the canon characters. I'm planning a redo for the canon character set, eventually, so please do let me know if I'm wrong about anyone. I might already know, but since I have pretty severe dyscalculia as well as ADHD it's not bad to have the info available in multiple places.
I also feel that I should repeat the statement I made before that I had a hard time finding accurate, non-exoticizing references for Kaya, Speaking Rain, and Singing Bird's wardrobes without embarking on a level of research way beyond the scope of this project. If someone is reading this who has familiarity with and access to visual references for 19th century Nimiipuu, Salish, and Dakota/Lakota clothing, and the time and patience to help me understand them, I would be very interested in learning.

The 20th century begins with some of Samantha's more iconic outfits, but I'm also a fan of the way Addy's school suit translated to 1905, and Kirsten's summer dress to 1908. I took a long break from drawing these because for a while there the world seemed to be improving and I didn't need the regulating effect of this project as much, but hey, looks like we're back. That means I don't have a lot of process comments about the first couple of decades of the 20th century, since I finished them more than a year ago. I'm finding my way back to this project now, and I'm planning on starting again from 1668 with the siblings collection soon.

1916 is a unique moment in fashion and it was fun to adapt some of the more elaborate Victorian outfits like Marie-Grace, Cecile, and Violette's formal winter outfits. The 1910s in general are an underrepresented fashion era and I'm enjoying looking back at these.

1920s Hannah Kane: 96-99 Delia Freedman: 96-99 Violette Metoyer: 96-99 Aoife Callaghan: 84-93 Cecile Rey: 78-87 Marie-Grace Gardner: 78-87 Kirsten Larson: 76-85 Singing Bird: 76-85 Charlotte Devereux: 71-80 Addy Walker: 66-75 Sarah Moore: 66-75 He-Mei Hsieh: 55-64 Florence Coburn: 55-64 Lucy Morgan: 55-64 Gertrude Levy: 45-54 Mabel Kaplan: 45-54 Medha/Mahtab: 43-52 Diya/Nasreen: 40-59 Harriet Shapiro: 35-44 Matilda Greene: 35-44 Samantha Parkington: 26-35 Nellie O'Malley: 26-35 Rebecca Rubin 16-25 Ana Rubin 16-25 Alice McDougal 16-25 Frances Elizabeth Whitman 12-21 Francesca Vitale 11-20 Bernice Wright 5-16 Lawrence Ross 5-16 Dinah Hope Bellini 6-15 Kit Kitteredge 0-7 Ruthie Smithens 0-7
Finally, the 20s! I'm really disappointed that Claudie hasn't gotten much in the way of a collection yet. When I drew this decade a year or so ago I had put off adding Claudie and the Hoffman twins to this project because I was waiting for more outfits to be released for each of them, but that doesn't seem probable right now so I filled out Claudie's collection with a mixture of fashion plates and designs that AGblr members have made for their own Claudie's. Check out the real life versions by @futuristicsaladparadise (here) and @doll-princesse (here)! They're both really spectacular designs. I left my pre-Claudie 1920s Harlem OCs, Bernice and Lawrence, in the rotation as well.

1930s
Aoife Callaghan: 94-99 Cecile Rey: 88-97 Marie-Grace Gardner: 88-97 Kirsten Larson: 86-95 Singing Bird: 86-95 Charlotte Devereux: 81-90 Addy Walker: 76-85 Sarah Moore: 76-85 He-Mei Hsieh: 65-74 Florence Coburn: 65-74 Lucy Morgan: 65-74 Gertrude Levy: 55-64 Mabel Kaplan: 55-64 Medha/Mahtab: 53-62 Diya/Nasreen: 50-69 Harriet Shapiro: 45-54 Matilda Greene: 45-54 Samantha Parkington: 36-45 Nellie O'Malley: 36-45 Rebecca Rubin 26-35 Ana Rubin 26-35 Alice McDougal 26-35 Frances Elizabeth Whitman 22-31 Francesca Vitale 21-30 Bernice Wright 15-26 Lawrence Ross 15-26 Dinah Hope Bellini 16-25 Kit Kitteredge 8-17 Ruthie Smithens 8-17 Lillyann Bonney 0-9 Nanea Mitchell 0-8 Lily Suda 0-8 Emily Bennet 0-7 Molly McIntire 0-6 Honoka Oishi 0
In the 1930s skirts get longer again. I imagine Rebecca thriving on the romantic bias cut gowns and Samantha appreciating the freedom to experiment more often with trousers. Speaking of trousers, I'm glad I left Bernice and Lawrence in the mix despite how close they are to Claudie because now we get to celebrate Lawrence's move from knickerbockers to long pants! Very grown-up. One thing you probably can't tell at this scale is that Alice is very slightly taller than the other characters. As always, I love an opportunity to make small alterations to the model, especially since Charlotte is at an age where her using a cane doesn't make me change the model for her. Between AG having a lot of 20th century characters and AGblr having a lot of 20th century OCs, it's getting a little crowded in here, but it makes for a good party!

All right, we're almost caught up with where I was when the project paused, so the next post in the series will have more to say about the fashions, since it'll be more recent in my mind.
As always, to get your historical doll or OC included in this project, HERE'S THE LINK. Obviously if your doll is from earlier than the 21st century they'll have to wait for the next round of drawings, but you're welcome to put them in the form and I'll include them in the next round, which will otherwise focus on the siblings of canon characters.

Ron Watches Geordie Shore Season 1 Episode 5
This is it. The final post I made back in the 2010s. It’ll be uncharted territory moving forward. Or at least uncharted territory for me because everyone else already watched this show more than a decade ago. Continue reading Ron Watches Geordie Shore Season 1 Episode 5

William Forster Mitchell (1825 – 1892)
Tumblr media
This summer, I created a small exhibit in the Maria Mitchell Vestal Street Observatory to highlight some of the other Mitchell family members.  We were celebrating the renovation of the Seminar Room addition at the MMO – completed with a gift from MMA board member and Mitchell family descendant, Richard Wolfe.  Mr. Wolfe is a descendant of Maria Mitchell’s younger brother, William Forester.  I have mentioned him before but thought I would share some more details of another remarkable member of the Mitchell Family.
Named by his parents, William and Lydia Mitchell, for the famous English Quaker, Forster as he was called was educated like his siblings – in his father’s schools, at home, and in Quaker-led schools on the island.  Forster married Charlotte Coffin Dow in 1846.  While he left Quaker meeting – as all of his siblings did – he later returned with a reinstatement by the Meeting.  Following in the footsteps of his father, Forster became a teacher serving at several schools, including heading a Penn Charter School in Philadelphia and helping a financially floundering school for people of color in Philadelphia.  Forster served as Haverford College Superintendent from 1861-1862 and then was made principal at the Roberts Vaux Public School in Philadelphia.  An abolitionist and educator, he became a supervisor and teacher in the Freedmen’s Aid Commission, working in the South with formerly enslaved people.  His daughter, Annie Maria joined him in his work there for several years.
Founded in 1859 during the Civil War, the Commission was created by several religious denominations that hired teachers and provided housing so that they could establish and run schools in the South to help and support those who had been enslaved.  The Commission also assisted formerly enslaved peoples with finding jobs, housing, and basic necessities for life.  The work of the Commission’s teachers helped to raise the literacy rate of the formerly enslaved people by an incredible amount – it founded over 500 schools and colleges in the South where the newly freed could gain professional degrees as well.  Children, men, and women all attended the schools to learn to read or to improve their limited literacy.  Forster Mitchell found himself a part of a Commission that included many Quakers and quite a few Nantucketers, including island teacher Anna Gardner.
As a young man, Forster apprenticed to his uncle, Peleg Mitchell Jr – William Mitchell’s youngest brother – who owned a tinsmithing shop.  His apprenticeship proved very useful, as Forster became a founding faculty member at Howard College (now University) where he taught tinsmithing in the Industrial Arts Department – a craft he learned from his Uncle Peleg.  In ill health later in his life, Forester returned to Nantucket at the invitation of his younger brother, Henry, who had a home on the Cliff called Sunnycliff.  Forster would die on Nantucket, in another house down the street from Henry, in 1892.

Becoming an Intelligent Woman
My Dears,
There is no greater goal than being a fine woman who is intelligent, kind, and elegant. As much as we all want to be described with these adjectives, it takes a great amount of discipline to get there. It is very doable only if you are ready to put in the work.
Here are steps you can add to your routine in the next 4 weeks that will make you 1% more intelligent than you were before. This is a process that should become a habit not a goal. It is long term, however, I want you to devote just 4 weeks into doing these steps first and recognize the changes that follow.
Watch documentaries: This is the easiest step, we all have access to Youtube. Youtube has a great number of content on art, history, technology, food, science etc that will increase your knowledge and pique your curiosity. I really did not know much about world history especially from the perspective of World war 1 & 2, the roaring 20s, Age of Enlightenment, Jazz era, monarchies etc but with several channels dedicated to breaking down history into easily digestible forms. I have in the last 4 weeks immersed myself into these documentaries. Here are a few I watched:
The fall of monarchies
The Entire History of United Kingdom
The Eight Ages of Greece
World War 1
World War 2
The Roaring '20s
The Cuisine of the Enlightenment
2. Read Classics: I recommend starting with short classics so that you do not get easily discouraged. Try to make reading easy and interesting especially if you struggle with finishing a book. Why classics? You see, if you never went to an exclusive private school in Europe or America with well crafted syllabus that emphasized philosophy, history, art, and literary classics, you might want to know what is felt like and for me this was a strong reason. Asides that, there is so much wisdom and knowledge available in these books. In these books, you gain insights to the authors mind, the historical context of the era, the ingenuity of the author, the hidden messages, and the cultural impact of these books. Most importantly, you develop your personal philosophy from the stories and lessons you have accumulated from the lives of the characters in the books you read. Here are classics to get you started:
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald
Candide by Voltaire
Paradise lost by John Milton
3. Study the lives of people who inspire you: I dedicate one month to each person that fascinates me. I read their biography (date of birth, background, death, influences, work, style, education, personal life) For this month, I decided to study Frank Lloyd Wright because I was fascinated by the Guggenheim Museum in New York. I began to read about his influence in American Architecture (Organic architecture, Prairie School, Usonian style), his tumultuous personal life, his difficult relationship with his mentor (Louis Sullivan), his most iconic works etc. By the end of the year I would have learned the ins and outs of people I am inspired by through books and documentaries. Here are other people I plan to learn more about:
Winston Churchill
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Ada Lovelace
Benjamin Franklin
Helen Keller
John Nash
Isabella Stewart Gardner
Caroline Herrera
Ernest Hemingway
Catherine the Great
Ann Lowe
My dears, I hope you enjoyed this read. I cannot wait to write more on my journey to becoming a fine woman. I urge you to do this for four weeks and see what changes you notice. Make sure to write as well, it is important to document your progress.
Cheers to a very prosperous 2024!

Bloom redesign!!
I said a while back that I would share them, so we will be going in season order for characters so I can explain parts of my rewrite that is being worked on. Meaning Aisha won't come for a bit but she will be present at some point!
Anyways, on to the headcanons and such.
As you can see, there are two different casual Blooms. The first is her before awakening her powers, and the second is when her powers were awakened. Her hair and pants are inspired by the 70s as I headcanon Bloom to be a thrifter and up-cycler. The bell bottoms used to be her adoptive mom, Vanessa's. She added the sunflower embroidery herself. Her shirt is a self-cropped City of Gardenia shirt, and she wears a green friendship bracelet that Selina made her. She will get rid of it at some point when she's at Alfea. Not forever, she just puts it away.
In her awakened form, she has a little flame that floats above her head. Not many know why, but it is a sign of her being the lost princess of Domino. When she realizes she is said Lost Princess, no one believes her at first because it kind of became a meme for people to claim they are the Lost Princess of Domino. Somewhat like an Anastasia situation where people did pretend to be her, but we're found to be fakes. It then turned into, "and I'm the Queen of England," type joke.
Her hair now resembles that of a flame in color, her nails are sharper, as are her canines, and she now has the elf/fairy ears. She also has new accessories. The silver bracelet she wears helps cool down her temperature since it fluctuates due to her powers being suppressed for so long. The necklace contains enchanted candy water drops that help soothe her throat as she is prone to breathing out smoke in her bouts of anger. These things happen because, as I mentioned in my original redesign post, each fairy and all magical beings have a drawback to their power. Even witches.
Small Headcanons:
• Has multiple versions of the Collections of Grimm Fairytales because the covers are different so of course she needs them.
• Loves Marissa Meyers, The Lunar Chronicles series.
• Sews pretty well and is self taught.
• Amazing artist but prefers to draw people more than anything.
• Anime lover, specifically Magical Girl Anime Lover.
• Is constantly baffled by the fact she and her new friends really do save the day with friendship and love.
• Starts a blog on the Realms Wide Web where she does a docu-diary of her time as a new fairy and such.
• Her full name is when she was born was Bloom Charlotte Feniatare, when she was found by Mike and adopted, it became Bloom Allison Gardner. Then, when she found out her origins it changed for the last time to Bloom Allison Charlotter Gardner-Feniatare. She wanted to honor all her parents by keeping the names they gave her.
• Not anything new, but she loves spicy food.
Next up will be Stella! I'll post her tomorrow.
