thinking about charlie, who will call you every single pet name known to the english language, and use them so much that sometimes you wonder whether he remembers your real name. thinking about charlie, who always insists on having his arm around you when the two of you are in public, no matter if it’s around your shoulders or your waist. thinking about charlie, who will absolutely cover your face with kisses when you’re upset until you laugh from how much it tickles, and have the most smug smile on his face when he’s accomplished it. thinking about charlie, who will attempt to write a saxophone melody just for you, and even if it doesn’t turn out quite like he wanted will feel like the sun has started shining in his chest when you smile at him after he plays it for you. thinking about charlie, who as much as he craves validation, eventually comes to find that yours is the only laugh he really cares about hearing after he’s told a joke.

thinking about charlie, who is always so jovial and takes so little in this life seriously, but who is deadly serious about his love for you; as much as he tries to bring light and levity into other people’s lives, you are the light in his life, and he will be damned if he doesn’t love you with the same determination he gives to telling jokes and causing mischief - strong, steadfast, with all the warmth and power of the sun he cannot help but remind people of, and that he insists he sees every time he sees you smile.

In honor of it being September and my season to shine;

What the poets are like during fall.

Neil: Christian girl fall anyone? You walk into his house and it smells like a Michael's. He's wearing skinny jeans and an infinity scarf. Someone save him.

Todd: He's taking long walks and enjoying the leaves and waiting until the seasonal depression hits.

Charlie: The amount of decorating he does for Halloween is a bit concerning. Where does he fit all these decorations? How is his house a different color than last week? How much did it cost to get people to dress up as zombies and walk around in his front yard 24/7?

Meeks: He dresses up in a different costume every day for weeks until Halloween where his Emmet brown costume is immaculate.

Pitts: He doesn't really care that it's fall. He has one string of orange lights he keeps up year round and plugs them in during fall as decoration.

Knox: The weather drops below 60 degrees and he has a cold for the next 6 months. Somebody get him a jacket.

Cameron: He's to busy doing school work for fall festivities. As a treat he allows himself a bowl of candy corn once a year, but keeps it hidden so he has no thieves.

What do we think about the poets siblings? Like we know that Neil is only child and Todd have at least one brother (jeffrey<3) but since we don’t know about the others take my silly headcanons lol

so like I said Neil is only child which makes me feel really depressed bc he didn’t have anyone to talk to when he was alone at home in summer with only his parents. Charlie’s only child too but unlike Neil, he likes that, he likes the attention and he get all his parents attention so he’s fine with that, he likes to sneak out in the summer for parties but he gets in trouble everytime. Also he lives really near to Knox, so he won’t feel alone when Knox comes round

Apart from Jeffrey, Todd has a little sister – hers name is Lilliana (but Jeffrey and Todd call her Lily) and she’s the sweetest child ever (she’s like 3 or 4, I don’t know how old mrs anderson actually is, but let say he had lily at 42) (I actually I had some headcanones about this girlie, maybe one day I’ll share ;3 )

Richard has a younger brother, his name’s Don. Don’s 11, they don’t have a bad relationship but neither a good one, Don has the pressure to be as good as his older brother, and he hates it. Cameron isn’t good in communication w people, so they aren’t as close as they liked to.

Pitts has a older brother named Marvin, they don’t have a good relationship because of the age gap (15 years), when he was four Marvin already moved out to collage, they didn’t see each other often, so the bond beetwen them doesn’t exist

Meeks has three sisters: Joyce, Sherry and Michelle. All of them are older than him. So basically Steven’s the baby of the family. The age gap between Joyce (the eldest) and Steven is 8 years, then between him and Sherry 5 and him and Michelle 3.

Knox has an older sister, her name’s Nancy (you and chris can’t be together yours star signs aren’t compatible) (fuck you) Nancy is 2 years older than him so the gap isn’t that big (listen to me when I say she won’t like that, I’m older) (so????) which means that they have a quite good relationship (i’m going to see charlie) (oh your boyfriend?) (what the fuck nancy??)

lately ive been really into this dead poets au i made up ive been going soo deep into it that now im emotionally invested in charlie's daughter that i made up

so, I finally got to see the Laserdisc deleted scenes

and while I have many a thought, it’s also made me realise even more the intricacies of the Poets and their grief

(specifically Mr. Stephen K.C. Meeks, but the rest of them too)

I mean, everyone’s already commented on Charlie. How he was probably informed first that Neil had died, how the responsibly was put on him to stay strong long enough to inform the others. How he doesn’t sing at Welton’s memorial for Neil, a silent protest against the institution that contributed to his death. But in a deleted clip from that same scene, they have a prayer, and once again, Charlie is stony faced and stoic. His wrists lay limply before him and he just stares. I’ve thought before that — if Charlie was raised/considered himself Christian/Catholic before — how Neil’s death might have effected his faith, but this just confirmed it for me.

and then there’s Meeks. oh god, Meeks. When the Poets wake Todd up, he looks like he’s in shock, absolutely horrified. And during the memorial, he tries to sing, but he’s so clearly trying to hold back tears the entire time. In contrast to Charlie, he does pray, seemingly harder than all the Poets combined, holding his hands so tightly you can see the strain in them, his lip wobbling as he continues trying not to cry. (It’s interesting, seeing this contrast from shock to overwhelming sadness.)

What midwest food the poets would enjoy.

(This is mostly just to show @latin-8-o-clock-my-room the food I hate).

Neil. - Watergate salad. It's not even a salad, it's mostly just marshmallows. Neil has such a strong sweet tooth so it's perfect for him.

Pitts. - Bratwurst. This boy loves hot dogs so why not take it to the next level and give him better hot dogs.

Charlie. - Beer cheese soup. I hate beer cheese soup, but Charlie loves being able to eat warm cheese and popcorn and call it a meal. It's awful.

Meeks. - Tater tot hotdish. He's a sensible man and loves things that actually taste good mixed together.

Todd. - Green bean casserole. He's weird but it's nostalgic so he likes the memories that come with eating it.

Knox. - Fish fry. Lent just ended so for the last month there have been fish frys everywhere and Knox really enjoys it. His favorite part is the coleslaw.

I agree on the "removing the racism" part, but charlie experimenting with his identity is a big part of his character arc. I think instead, he could still go through that, just...a little differently. The racist elements of "nuwanda" could easily be replaced, allowing Charlie to have his moment of "wanting to be different" and "finding his own voice".

Charlie's arc in the original also compliments Neil's. Neil is also searching for who he wants to be, but he goes about it much more mildly, and he meets the fate that he does, meanwhile Charlie goes looking for who he is much more chaotically, and he only gets expelled.

I just think Charlie's arc is important, and if there were a remake, it should still exist, just tweaked to fit today's audience.

There’s something deep inside of me that so badly wants to make a Dead Poets Society show. It would still take place in 1959, that wouldn’t change. The main changes would be the Knox/Chris thing. Mainly him sexually assaulting her (if you’ve read the book, you know), it could be changed to him getting drunk and talking about wanting to date Chris, and then Chet overhears, and things continue like the original. Charlie wouldn’t have the Nuwanda thing, I know some people like it but like, it’s racist, and there are other ways to show him rejecting society than the way he did. It would also put more emphasis on the struggle that Neil had, and maybe possibly make Anderperry canon, or deeply hinted at (I wouldn’t wanna push anything cuz it’s still 1959). Todd wouldn’t be directly stated to be autistic because the medical community didn’t really believe autism was a thing then, but it would also be deeply hinted at.

There could also be episodes dedicated to each individual member of the Dead Poets. I feel Meeks and Pitts are underrated and we don’t know much about them. It would be cool to have episodes dedicated to them all, learn more about their internal struggles (if they have any) and their family situations, maybe meet Todd’s brother, stuff like that. I also think it would be interesting to learn more about Cameron, possibly even why he ratted out on Keating.

This is just an idea that’s deep inside my head and won’t leave. Too bad I’m an 18 year old with no experience in television and can’t do anything about this idea. But now it’s out in the world, so that’s something
