if you ever ask yourself, 'should i watch the magicians?' just know, when i first watched season 4 the ending was so bad it triggered a depressive episode that lasted over a month

@horsetailcurlers2 and i finally finished the magicians the other day and though i do think the show shouldve ended differently and really should have been different from like s4e12 onward, i think with the current ending it just doesnt make thematic sense for eliot and alice to be where they are

like somehow eliot has tied himself down to brakebills which admittedly the physical cottage is his safe space or whatever but on the whole feels like hes not doing what he should be doing in the grand scheme of his character, (in terms of like tethering himself to a place where he was never actually himself and tethering himself to anywhere in general but i digress) like he should be helping build new fillory!! him and margo and josh and fen should be together and i feel like that was just thrown away for alice's self discovery or whatever (like cmon weve seen what the healers in the magical world can do, youre telling me broken fingers trumps missing fingers in terms of spellcasting??) it would also help on his growth, showing that although fillory kindve sucks and he definitely does not want to run it, it is still his home now and making sure its okay?? well thats been his goal fo a while even without being high king (also him naming margo high king margo the creator would have been way more moving than fen doing it im sorry)

whereas alice herself would have shown major growth if she were to be with the library or at brakebills, showing that she finally understands the importance of not just hoarding knowledge but sharing it (if she were a professor at brakebills) or working towards sharing it (leading the library in a way that further goes with that view shes been working on getting for the past idk four seasons???)

it also would have furthered both of their connections to quentin, with alice working with brakebills and eliot in fillory, which were where both of their connections to him really flourished and grew and how they could stay connected to him despite it all

worst thing about tua4 is it brought up my magicians trauma that I honestly thought I had moved on from 😞

okay so I’ve been watching The Magicians for the first time with my boyfriend, and we just got to season 5 and I ???? WHAT THE FUCK

killing off Quentin was so??? WHAT! WHY?! Why would you do that?! And like. Why why WHY would he move on so quickly? He was so dedicated to magic and to his friends and he finally FINALLY got Eliot back and he didn’t even get to SEE OR TALK TO HIM AND THEN HE OVERSAW HIS FUNERAL?!

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT

That betrayed his whole character. His whole arc. HIS WHOLE STORY!! He should have been able to fucking live in peace for a second, with the people he loves, and even if he had to die why couldn’t it have been temporary?? He’s moved on, there’s no coming back from that!!! ARGHHGHGHGHGHG BAD WRITING DECISION BAD

One of the best things about Quentin Coldwater

One of the best things about Quentin is how he’s kinda a dick sometimes. He makes bad decisions and can be an asshole. He’s human. So many times the main characters have to be perfect all the time and just really good people. Even if they are upset it’s justified. They never just simply mess up with no higher purpose to it. But Quentin is messy. He’s insecure and defensive and that’s why we love him. He can also be amazing and sweet and kind but then other times…not.

A desperate attempt at drawing quentin- I couldn’t get his facial features quite right and it’s REALLY bugging me- but that’s ok

Repair of small objects!

Something something the symbolism of a character who is helpless but needs to help others… his whole character being built on the desire and need to fix things… the repetitive theme of him having to come to terms with not being able to fix the big problem and settling for fixing small things… ultimately sacrificing his own life and in doing so fixing the big problem… by using minor mending… finally being the hero of his quest… the chosen one… indeed, trying to fix something can make it worse… and things did get broken when he tried to fix something but it was also for the better… banging on the walls of my enclosure screaming biting-

The perspective on my drawing is off… and his features are a bit more compressed and stuff- but I’m really done redoing the details on this piece I’ve just gotta let it be 😭 (this was a lie. I have continued to edit it.) semi realism/realism in general is SUPER not my strong suit
