Hello! Not an ask, just fangirl rambling (not sure if you're into that though.?)

In answer to your ''Lilia vs Idia x Reader anyone'' from a few days ago YES I AGREE we see tons of adeuce x reader and idia x azul x reader but never with Lilia and Idia?? Which makes no sense to me, there's so much potential there! Firstly Lilia and Idia's relationship is as incredibly funny as it is touching (on top of being the two best written characters in this game but I may be biased), secondly their personalities balance each other so well, and thirdly the scenarios possibilities - them not knowing they're online bff when reader becomes close friends with them both separately (Idia moping and judging at the same time cause you're hanging with the n°1 freaky extrovert, going ''yeah obviously you'd rather spend time with a charismatic hyper dude than me...'' and ''ugh you like this guy??'' at the same time. Meanwhile Lilia finds it endearing that you'd befriend such a socially awkward guy, but also, you have weird taste?) and then bring in romance and jealousy and they get worse. But then again, make them realize they're actually online bff!! And now reader can hang out with both of them at once, and do so many fun group activities (playing four players games with Ortho -grim canonically gets frustrated with controllers : ( going to premo concerts, to cons, perhaps even a cat or game cafe), Lilia would happily drag Idia out of his room, literally if needed, and Ortho would be ecstatic his brother has not one but two friends, gets out more and always ends up having a good time (on top of building confidence and trust in others)! And maybe even Lilia could get emotional growth out of it; if two people not from his found family keep telling him how awesome and loved he is perhaps he'd start internalizing it and value himself more? But also the bittersweet romantic tension in a bff trio! Uuugghh why does no one writes fic about them

Just consider the perfect imageries of their duo : SF and medieval fantasy! Otaku shut in and chaotic adhd hyper goth! Vampire-like dark fae weapon of war and literal god of the underworld (the goth dream)! The height difference! -and somehow a great deal of their clothes are the same size

also, the snark fest would be phenomenal with both their forces combined

YES my favourite part of the musclegloom dynamic is that this is their escape, and obviously they have no idea it’s just “that guy from class” bc even if they did get close it’s pretty wild to accuse someone that you’ve been playing RPGs together for an extended period of time. Imagine the TENSION when you get closer to them as indidviduals- peeling back the layers and going “hey! I used to play something exactly like this back home, can I sit in?” And bc they’re whipped they let you, but those gaming accounts are sacred!!! So Idia starts beginner friendly games w/ you and Lils just plays the stuff he likes on new accs. Imagine being with Idia on a new game (inching your way into his lap bc sue me it’s cold) WHILE getting spammed by Lilia. Your phone’s vibrating every couple seconds and Idia’s scowl just gets worse bc he knows exactly who it is. Even going as far to TRIPLE TEXT you (wowwww record breaking) next time you’re in diasomnia despite flaming your “baby-metal mob” for doing the same thing last week. The boys accidentally finding and WEARING each other’s stuff (Lilia does it on purpose- free is free) (Idia has one sided beef and Ortho restocks his closet anyways. He doesn’t know what belongs there on a good day)

+ This and FWB, Ids needs to become your boyfriend for his confidence and Lilia is a massive swinger no matter how possessive he gets. He has you when he needs to, AND the rush of stealing you away from someone??? You spoil him <3

mmmh i'm bad with words but i'll try lol sorry for the rambling

I enjoy how they're both chaotic beings who like creating mischief but never stop caring for the little guy, they'll support eachothers stupid impulses as long as it doesn't fuck over someone weaker than them.

I like how soft Ashton gets with Fearne. He's someone with chronic pain who's expressed how physical contact can be painful for him yet actively seeks out Fearne to cuddle with. When they go to cuddle with Gloamgut they make it clear that they'll leave if either Fearne or Gloamgut wants it. He's never expressed a particular care for animal but she loves them dearly so he makes it clear that he pets Gloamgut with his smoother hand. His biggest regrets when it comes to shard gate was not that he almost died but that he almost hurt Fearne.

I like how shy Fearne gets with Ashton. She's never had any problem with making sexual comments to her friends but she doesn't really do them with Ashton. Ashley acts her out to be giggly and embarrassed when anything flirty goes on between the two of them. Because of that my personal headcanon for her is that she's demi-romantic. She compartmentalizes a lot and I do hope she soon shares her true emotions about what's been going on but after her dad got loomed and everybody kept questioning her Ashton told her "I promise to not ask you how you feel" A way of saying " i see you and i know you're struggling but also you're clearly not ready to talk about it" She thanks them for it. Pre shard absorption Fearne kept saying she didn't want the fire shard yet it kept being pushed on her, evry member of BH expecting her to want this large boost in power but she's so scared and no one notices, except Ashton.

I like how different yet similar they are, so often misunderstood by the fandom. Fearne as this hypersexual ditzy fae and Ashton as some asshole selfish jock who believes he's owed the world. Really they're both sensitive people who have been hurt and found different ways to protect themselves yet they both see behind the other's facade

The Power Of Ley Lines

Ley lines are straight lines or tracks, essentially energy grids that stretch across the earth in every direction. The ancients marked these lines with stone monuments and pagan temples. Our ancient ancestors could feel the magick and power emanating from these lines, so they set up natural sanctuaries and called the intersections of the ley lines sacred places.

If we look at some of the world's most important sites on a map, we can draw straight lines between them. These lines form a grid-like pattern across the entire surface of the planet. Stonehenge, the Great Pyramids of Giza, and Machu Pichu are sacred sites the connect, through the lines, with many other sites, including landmarks like Mt. Everest.

You won't find the ley lines on a typical geographical map or in a history book. They are mostly a topic in occult books or folklore. The contemporary concept was developed by Alfred Watkins in 1921, who believed so strongly in ley lines that he organized a group, that gathered in England and walked the countryside in search of them.

Faerie Paths and Corpse Roads

Spirits often travel the earth along ley lines. In England and throughout Europe there is a concept referred to as a 'corpse road'. A corpse road was a path taken by funerary processions to escort the recently deceased to their final resting place. Terrifying stories are told of supernatural creatures on corpse trails that, more often than not, correspond with ley lines.

Faeries, also known as the Fae, the Fair Folk, or the Sidhe, are known to travel along specified paths as well. There are many stories from Ireland and the British Isles that describe Faerie pathways leading into hills or over Fae bridges. These paths also follow ley lines. People are warned not to ever travel a Fae path during twilight hours (dawn or dusk) or at night, for fear the Faeries would steal them away.

The Importance of Ley Lines Today

Though the concept has ancient roots, ley lines are just as relevant in modern practice and very much affect us. The planet is like a living being, in and of itself. It produces energetic vibrations that we can both feel and interact with, if the conditions are right. The ley lines are like earth's veins; sacred sites where the planet allows us to easily tap into her essence.

Of you feel particularly revitalized after visiting your secret hiking spot, swimming in a body of water, or digging your toes into a patch of dirt or moss, then you know a taste of the potency that comes with being near a ley line.

The Affects of Ley Lines

• If your home is on a ley line, it may make thr energy more intense or chaotic.

• You may not be able to relax and sleeping may be difficult.

• You may experience increased paranormal activity, including apparitions, disembodied voices, and encounters with spirits, Faeries, or elementals.

• If your business is on a ley line, you will most likely notice an increase in energy, positive or negative. Your business may be considered haunted.

• When ley lines intersect, any building located on the intersection will have a constant flow of energy. This will cause supernatural occurrences and regular chaos.

• At ancient/sacred sites on ley lines, you will experience spiritual development, enlightenment, awakenings, visions, feelings of peace, messages from beyond or spiritual downloads.

Discovering Nearby Ley Lines

Finding your local ley lines is easier than one wound expect. Think of any historical landmarks in your area. Native, ancient, and pagan landmarks are excellent starting points, as are caves, rivers/creeks, manmade mounds, burial grounds, etc. The ancient natives were very in tune with nature and knew the lines intimately.

In addition, consider local sites with well-known hauntings, supernatural activity, or legends attached to them. Locations with high paranormal activity are most often on or near a ley line. For example, Gettysburg PA, Washington DC, and further, every state capital are located on ley lines.

Locating a Ley Line

After investigating your local sites and finding possible line spots, it's time to make the journey to confirm it in person. This is a sacred journey and you should prepare as such. Cleanse yourself before traveling to any sacred place so you can be as spiritually pure as possible. This will make the energy from the lines easier to sense. It's also a wise idea to bring along a pendulum or dowsing rods. Once there, be open to any sensation. You may feel nervous or excited.

You can dowse and find which areas have the highest energetic charge, test each place with the pendulum/rods, if they spin or swing vigorously, you are very close to the ley line.

Ley Line Magick

In addition to being excellent places for spirit work and necromancy, the energy of the lines can be harnessed to super charge manifestation. Enlightenment is primary. It should go without saying that visiting a ley line give you divine insight, spiritual downloads, and/or a total spiritual awakening.

Healing is another prominent form of magick performed at ley lines. While there, ask the earth and the spirits to send healing vibrations up through your feet and throughout your entire being. Stand still for a while and feel the healing energy pulse through your body. Few sensations match this potent connection.

Other forms of ley line magick include drawing love, abundance, meditation, grounding, cleansing, and charging. You can perform entire rituals on top of ley lines to add primal power to the working and drastically increase the success rate of your spell.

╰┈➤ AEVUM ISLES :: APRIL FESTIVAL ❂

THE AMITY CELEBRATION is itself a celebration of families in Aevum, from mothers, to fathers, and siblings alike. Some may even gather to celebrate friendships during this season of holiday. Cafes, restaurants and stores across Arcanus City can be found discounting items and featuring seasonal sales. City parks can often be found themed in whites and golds, with various family-friendly activities across the small venues. Please refer to the ARCANUS ISLE COMPENDIUM for creature and plant references.

OVERVIEW:

Logus Pocus Day.

During the month of APRIL, the Aercons of Arcanus Isle celebrate the coming of spring. Starting first with “LOGUS POCUS DAY”, residents make sure to engage in a full day of mischief and good-natured fun. After which, the preparations for spring are sure to follow.

The Blossom Dance.

Taking place on the FIRST FRIDAY AND SATURDAY of April (2025, April 4th-5th), the Blossom Dance is a large gathering hosted by Fanalean residents in the Fanalean Fields. Participants and onlookers are expected to wear their springtime finest and join locals through the weekend for locally-made foods such as the May Flower Honey and Zephyr Lily Wines. The farmlands host strawberry harvests, and during the White Nights, Star-Step Moonelopes and Sunbeam Ceredae are more common to spot in the wilds around this time of year.

Towards the far west of the fields, along the border of the Aether Reserve, Wyrd Fae leave small gold coins for curious children. Legends say that only those pure of heart can find the coins, though they can be gifted to others once in the individual's possession.

Taking significant others to the Blossom Dance is a popular date choice, especially during the White Nights.

The White Nights.

During the 28th of April to the 3rd of May, Aevum experiences a natural week-long phenomenon colloquially known as “THE WHITE NIGHTS”. During this time, the sun does not set, casting a perpetual twilight well into the midnight hours. Schools are closed and workplaces observe reduced hours. The White Nights are a signifier that spring has come, and is often reserved as a holiday for families to enjoy.

NOTE: Unless specified, ALL activities listed for the Amity Celebration are observed throughout the Arcanus Isles.

May Crownings

May Crownings are a small rite of passage between young people within Arcanus Isle. Youth will spend some time crafting flower crowns and garlands for their best friends. The flowers of choice, despite the name, are daisies, bluebells, and marigolds. Some eleven attempt to weave heaven’s mirror into their garlands for their crushes. Receiving a crown often is synonymous with “you are important to me”.

Adults who like to continue the tradition may instead weave wreaths to hang for their loved ones. The more colorful flowers that fill the wreath (as well as the size and volume of the wreath), the more of a point of pride it is between friends.

Occasionally, some choose to utilize the may crownings to deliver crowns, garlands, and wreaths that speak of not-so-pleasant feelings towards other individuals. It is not entirely uncommon for anonymous wreaths to be left at a doorstep that say, in no uncertain flower-speak terms, “I don't like you even one bit”.

Logus Pocus Day (cont.)

Logus Pocus Day marks the first day of the Amity Celebration season for many arcanus residents. Fishermen gather the logus fruit from the small islands scattered around the southern perimeter, and sell them at the piers throughout the day. Logus fruit is known for its playfully chaotic characteristics, and many residents who partake in the holiday craft all manner of pranks featuring the fruit.

Eating the fruit produces a random effect that lasts 1 hour per bite taken. There are six cataloged effects:

Your voice changes to sound operatic, higher or lower pitched, or, in rare cases, speaking backwards.

Randomly change the color of your skin, eyes, and/or hair with wildly different shades that slowly peels off.

Particles appear coming off your body, which take the form of flower petals. The petals are unique to the person.

Your body becomes elastic, making you unbreakable … However you will be unable to grip anything at all.

The gravity of your body changes, making you incredibly dense, or float.

You turn into a Luna Flock. (No, you cannot lay eggs.)

CLEARVIEW DISTRICT:

Tea-lip Party

In the spirit of good fun, the Tea-Lip Party is hosted in Nourriture Avenue’s Gazebo. Teacups made of tulips line round tables for an afternoon tea party. Tea is served to guests who partake, all with the knowledge that drinking from the cup may mean a variety of random effects — for the tea poured into each cup is spiked with various alchemical potions courtesy of JUNIPER’S CHARMS AND REMEDIES.

This year, when ingested, the following effects may occur:

Your body progressively starts to glow any singular color of the rainbow. This lasts 24 hours.

You feel your tongue begin to twist. You can only speak in rhyme for 4 hours.

Your dominant hand is switched from right to left, or left to right. If you are ambidextrous, you now have no dominant hand. This lasts 2 hours.

You cannot tell a lie for 24 hours.

You will be followed by a little cloud of personalized weather, good or bad, usually taking the form of a small cloud. This lasts 6 hours.

All of your inner thoughts are audibly heard for 4 hours. You’re convinced everyone else is a mind reader.

(Felix often lost his cats and brewed this potion to make them easier to find.) You leave glowing footsteps that persist for 1 hour.

Your thirst is perfectly quenched for 2 hours. This drink is the quenchiest. (Also subjects the drinker to vivid hallucinations for the same amount of time.)

Many of the neighboring restaurants partake in the Tea-lip Party, offering various hour-de-vours to go alongside the precariously enjoyable beverages.

DOWNTOWN ARCANUS.

Coating Colors Day

Downtown Arcanus celebrates the Amity Festival with various color based festivities in celebration of the spring. One such tradition is to gather residents for a full day of color dusting the old roads of the main street. Residents engage in fun banter with each other by throwing small balloons with colored water and powder at each other.

Very often, this activity turns the streets into a colorful labyrinth. The elderly will partake by creating the colored powder solutions using various ancient methods and plants that grow across the Fanalean Fields and Silverbrook Hollow. The most famous of these colors are the pale blue, phosphorescent powders that come from the Zephyr Lilies, and the bright orange powder that comes from May Flowers.

As the Amity Celebration is traditionally a festival revolving around the bonds of friendship, family and neighborhood, this is an especially popular event for most Arcanus Isle residents to spend with their loved ones.

Luminescence Concerts

Sponsored by sweetheart idol Opal Luminescence, the Amphitheatre is fitted into a grand stage where the residents of Arcanus Isle can compete against one another to see who has the best, and most influential, musical talents. Those who partake can perform covers of their favorite songs, write and perform entirely original ones, or even simply join in as part of the judge table.

Despite the competitive nature of the concerts, the end goal of the performances are to promote creativity, artistry, music, and having fun. Opal often mediates the shows, congratulating all participants and rewarding them with various small gifts of their choice. (Usually musical in nature.) The pop star meets and greets her fans, often ending the week with a large concert showcasing the most popular covers and original music voted on throughout the week, as well as her own songs.

A majority of the proceeds gained by merchandise sales, sponsorships and so on are given to the St. Azalea Foundation.

THE AETHER RESERVE.

Tapestry of Traditions (April 28 - May 3rd)

As the White Nights finally make their appearance, the residents of Arcanus Isles turn their attention from the coming of spring, to the celebration of families properly. At the Padedeu Temple, groups of acolytes gather to create tapestries for paying residents as part of a fundraising event.

These tapestries are created from spun wool and silks - called Sovenance Threads - with both versions hailing from a long-lost region. The threads are used to create an image of an individual’s home (metaphorical or otherwise), and often depicts important subjects and people in their life. Sovenance threads draw on the memories and true feelings of an individual’s heart to create these depictions. One or more people can contribute to a tapestry to create the finished product, and they can be extended once a year.

These tapestries are some Aercons way of preserving family traditions, mottos, and other elements of livelihood, and often serve as heirlooms to be passed down and continued from one generation to the next.

A Sovenance Tapestry can depict (and be influenced by) the following things:

An individual’s family. The definition of a “family” will always reflect the Echo’s definition of what a ‘family’ may be. This can include biological families, found families, friendships, work-family, neighborhood communities, pets, and so on. People of significance may also appear here, but never wholly negative individuals, such as a mortal enemy or a deeply personal rival. (These individuals may be hinted at by motifs instead. See below.)

Memories, Emotions and Unique Relationships Due to the nature of the event, acolytes will ask Echoes to focus on a happy memory for the threads to depict. These positive memories will take precedence over negative ones. However: neutral and negative emotions can still influence the tapestry if the emotion (or lack thereof) is strong enough. Neutral (or lack of) emotions or memories will contribute nothing to the tapestry being created by the acolyte, causing the Sovenance threads to simply halt in place. If a negative emotion or memory influences the tapestry, the effect is more varied, creating anything from a wholly unclear or distorted image, to an image that simply contains small symbols that relate back to any unfinished business, hidden afflictions, or unresolved conflicts. In the case of both positive and negative influences, the tapestry’s symbols and motifs act very similarly to dream symbolism. (e.g., a backdrop of poison ivy may indicate hostile attitudes or scheming thoughts; jealousy, anger, and revenge. A lit candle may symbolize seeking hope, comfort or enlightenment.)

A birthplace or other Significant Location. A tapestry’s backdrop may depict elements of an Echo’s home, favorite place, or other objects that relate back to this location. (e.g., a star motif for characters related to, or greatly influenced by, space. Or an artistic rendition of a significant landmark that is important to the Echo.)

(More on) Influential Objects, Symbols, and Motifs Throughout the entire tapestry, symbols, objects, and motifs that tie in to the Echo will appear scattered throughout the piece. These typically depict elements of the Echo’s personality (or personalities, if more than one Echo is contributing to the tapestry). What motifs appear are directly influenced by the memory or relationship being depicted on the tapestry being woven. People who influence the memory of the Echo who are not directly involved (or are a deeply negative experience) will appear as symbols and motifs (see above) throughout the tapestry rather than as a significant focal point of it.

THE LUNAR COAST.

Candlelight Passing

Also spearheaded by the Padedeu Temple staff is the Candelight Passing ceremony. This ceremony takes place from 7PM - 4AM during the White Nights. When the Midnight Sun basks the land of Arcanus Isle into a perpetual twilight, denizens of the Isle gather at the shores of Arcus Reef to send off small wooden boats (often letter-sized boxes) filled with offerings to loved ones who have passed on.

These wooden boats are specifically fitted to eventually sink underwater, as the Aercons believe that when a member of the community passes on to become one with the Aether, the moment that the boats sink and its contents make contact with the water, the deceased are briefly able to feel the love of their remaining friends and relatives.

Those who observe the ceremony may gather incense, flowers, small sculptures, or paper memories into their boat before sending it off into the cove.

Bro is so chill. Like even more than Nan, which is SAYING something! Problem is, someone forgot to give them self preservation before they were born soooooo

Literally has no idea where they came from, however that doesn’t mean they don’t have their own issues.

Fae is the only one allowed to touch them. Why? No one’s really sure. They trust Saídê enough but he respects boundaries and doesn’t do anything unless they’re massively upset.

And when I mean “touch them”, they have a personal bubble of about thirty feet. Just putting a hand on their shoulder sends all kinds of alarms into their head, and when they’re overwhelmed they’ve had breakdowns before.

It’s not autism like some people think, (though there might be a touch lol) it’s most likely some kind of trauma from when they were a kit.

Fae is the only one who has the spatial awareness to recognize when something has set them off, and be able to calm them down.

Which is saying something because Fae has the spatial awareness of a golden retriever.

(There is only fluff in that head most of the time.)

Her love language is touch, but she has enough experience with these attacks that she knows when it’s appropriate to hold them, rub their back, take their hand, etc. etc.

They let her hold their hand all the time, hang onto their leg/waist. It’s just like a silent agreement between them that she’s allowed to be next to them if she needs it unless they’re overwhelmed.

Our lovely Y.N. does have anxiety, however it only comes into effect through strange moments.

There are certain things that trigger them but neither they or even Fale could tell you what they are.

Most of the time however it comes through nightmares.

Their dreams are very vivid and it’s hard for them to associate a dream from reality.

So when they wake up from a dream about literally murdering their best friend . . . You better believe they thought it was real and it’ll take them at least two hours for Fae to calm them down.

Their entire body just shuts down and they stop functioning all together.

Believe me Y.N. cares a whole lot about people. However they kind of forget about them at the same time. Like for example . . .

Fae cares about people too much, basically sacrificing herself for the benefit of others.

While for Y.N., they’re focused mostly on themselves rather than whoever is around them.

Sometimes that leads to them doing or saying things that honestly come off as pretty rude and selfish.

But that’s never their actual intent, they’re never malicious in any way. That’s just what happened to come out of their mouth at the time.

It makes for some interesting interactions, especially with Fae.

She knows they mean well but sometimes they can say the most hurtful things you can think of and it’ll take them a full five minutes to figure out why she’s upset.

Fae tries not to take it personally, she really does. But it can be difficult for her because she’s such an emotional person.

The little guy is the most important.

They don’t care about getting the info through the Mayor’s press conference, they want to know what the Janitor saw/heard when the crime happened.

(Does that make sense??)

They care more about the people begging for food than the douches in their silver towers.

There’s a story to tell in ordinary lives.

They can be pretty protective of Fae, mostly because they know how she is.

She’s scared of everything yet gives her full heart to everyone. She disregards her own well being just so someone else can thrive.

She puts on this “act” of pure love and trust, when deep down they know that she's suffering trying to please everyone.

Yeah, they’re her advocate.

“She asked for no pickles.”

They see the Palace Clan as their home/family, however that doesn’t always mean they feel at home really anywhere.

They don’t know where they come from and there’s always that emptiness of, ‘no one understands.’

They know that the Palace, more than anyone, understands how difficult it is to have a place of safety and rest. To have a home.

The clan thrives on the need of self survival because they’ve been through so much, but eventually lean on each other when it gets too much.

It’s just hard for Y.N. to find their place in the clan, it’s an instinct that’s been ground into them that they’re not allowed to make connections because . . .

Well they really aren’t sure why.

Fae tries her best but sometimes it pisses them off instead, because they instinctively believes that she’s not doing this for them.

Which there’s no evidence for, she would never use them. It’s just their insecurities coming into play.

For some reason deep down, they think she’s out to get them? When they’ve literally been through Hell together.

I hate to admit it . . . I made them way too dang sexy.

They are the epitome of academia.

But like, casual van life at the same time??

You know those people who roll up their sleeves and somehow get ten times more attractive?

Yeah . . . that’s Y.N.

Y.N. adores lazy Sundays, it’s the perfect day to take naps and watch awful reality/comedy television.

(They would adore the Parks & Rec / Brooklyn Nine Nine series – I’m just saying if the show Ghosts was built like The Office I think it would be ten times funnier. I love those documentary style shows)

They share a love for horror games with Fae except Y.N. doesn't squirm like she does. (Let's be honest, Fae's just there for the lore and sillies. Y.N. is there for the creepy designs and gore.)

Emily and Wendell Have No Chill...On Opposite Ends of the Chill Spectrum

Ok, the more you put faerie and academia up next to each other, the more I see similarities between the two that both the academics and the fae would probably be extremely pissy about, from the strict hierarchical structures to the arbitrary rules and the extreme danger of falling in love with them. And yet I'm also EXTREMELY here for it. So let's talk Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands.

THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW THE BREAK. BE WARNED.

Emily and Wendell are on the same page about when it is appropriate to go absolutely feral, but they would NOT agree with that. Emily can shake off the otherlands, random faerie assassins, and absolutely godawful living conditions during fieldwork but cannot handle other humans. Wendell can shake off *actively dying from faerie poison* and entirely too credible accusations of academic misconduct, but literally cannot handle a lack of coffee.

So naturally Wendell is panicking every time Emily gets too near the otherlands without him and Emily is absolutely losing it every time Wendell ignores common sense and uses his magic which exacerbates the effects of the poison. Literally these two are falling over each other to try to protect each other. It's wonderful--I wouldn't change a thing.

I also want to just double down on academics being JUST as terrifying as fae, because in the first book Emily didn't HESITATE before chopping a finger off to break an enchantment and in this one she didn't think twice before dropping the same poison that is killing Wendell into his stepmother's cup. This woman is absolutely terrifying in her determination and her ability to do the thing she has decided is absolutely necessary. Like, Emily Wilde is a terrifying force of nature and a damn fine scholar and the level of personal and professional jealousy I feel over this fictional character knows no bounds.

So beyond Emily and Wendell being just AGGRESSIVELY in love with each other in the most academic way possible, this book is fun because we get some resolution to the mystery of Danielle De Gray's disappearance, which was heavily referenced in the footnotes of the last book, and is one of the great dryadologist mysteries. I absolutely adore the fact that Emily is so determined to find out what actually happened to this academic in whom she sees herself. It makes her success so much greater and it makes the "don't meet your heroes" disappointment so much funnier when the real Dani catastrophically crashes into the De Gray that Emily had constructed in her head. It's funny and heartbreaking and honestly the fact that Dani then sort of...adopts Emily as a researcher in her own vein is awesome. Academic respect and mentorship is...a weirdass combination of doing it yourself with imagined mentor figures and deeply flawed people who just wanted to learn everything about something niche and specific and are really cranky about being saddled with students.

Which brings me nicely to Farris Rose. Rose is...a stodgy old white man academic in every sense, and he starts by threatening to have both Emily and Wendell fired for academic misconduct and fabricating research. He ends up with one ear on backwards and offering to mentor Emily in her academic career. He is also like...the absolute chaotic evil scholar, because he is VERY cool about ethical lapses if they get him on the expedition of the century. And he is also VERY comfortable lecturing Emily on her personal life. Even after she is pretty clear that his commentary is not terribly welcome.

The number of academic friendships that begin in open conflict is astounding, and honestly the "bitter enemy on the basis of their scholarship to grudging allies to actual friends" pipeline is VERY fun to watch. It's a special hell to live, but watching it is delightful.

Emily also grudgingly gets a student in this book! And after all the crap she gave Wendell about how he treats his grad students in the last book, she could possibly have been less brusque and less ornery with her dang niece!!! Ariadne is literally a ray of sunshine though, and she and Wendell get along like a house on fire to the point where he makes her a scarf for protection in the field. She and Emily uh...have a bit of a journey in terms of getting on, because Emily prefers to be on her own, and she like...intellectually loves her niece, but it takes some time for her to respect Ariadne as a baby researcher who is enthusiastic and learning. Their journey to understanding each other is really sweet, and I enjoyed it. I also love that Uncle Wendell was Uncle Wendell for Ariadne long before Aunt Emily actually accepted his proposal. That was just adorable.

I also really appreciate the cliffhanger that this book left us on. Emily and Wendell are going back to the Silva Lupi, but they literally do not know what they'll find. The assumption is that Wendell's stepmother is dead, but like...we don't KNOW that, and I wouldn't be surprised if she found some crafty and utterly hellscape-y way to avoid a terrible death by faerie poison. Especially since Wendell himself has hammered home the "there are no absolutes in faerie stories" message. So I might actually die waiting for book 3, but when it comes out, I will 1000% be there to read it.

I've got another example of "always chaotic evil" beings in fiction that I want to tell you about and ask for your opinion.

In the rpg "Changeling The Dreaming", players take the role of changelings, which are fae creatures who have chosen to reincarnate into human bodies to stave off Banality, a force representing the loss of humanity's ability to dream and disbelief in magic.

The player changelings are referred to as "kithain" and represent both a good and a bad dream, the Thallain are an antagonistic faction who only represent nightmares and are evil counterparts to the Kithain.

Thallain represent the "most primal, scariest intrusive thought you can have" and are actively driven to do evil things because of that.

Still, like all changelings they were born and grew up as humans and are still people, and I think

Chaotic cluttered character sheet for my One Piece oc Briar Rose

Obsessive amount of lore and design notes under the cut!

Briar Rose is the child of Mihawk. They prefer Rosie and sometimes Briar as nicknames, while their father will sometimes refer to them as “flower” and “eyas”

Briar Rose is a skilled swordsman having been training since a very young age, which is to be expected as the child of the World’s greatest swordsman. However Rosie lacks any drive to be the strongest and doesn’t wish to continue her father’s legacy. Mihawk finds no issue with this as he only wishes for her to be strong enough to protect herself. (That action pose is based off a Mihawk figure).

They wield the sword “Excalibur” (Rosie’s aesthetic is based a lot around English folklore with elements of Fae mythology and Arthurian legends). The sword is made in a similar style to Yoru, though it is neither a falchion or a black blade. It was a gift for her 16th birthday.

They do possess advance observation Haki like their father, but their armament Haki is not as good.

Briar has a similar temperament to her father, though she is much more expressive. She prefers quiet activities and doesn’t leave the home much. She does like to indulge in a bit of shopping and will make her father take her to one of the nearby islands to buy clothes.

Rose’s biggest flaw is she lacks any real dream. It might be due to the fact that Mihawk spoiled her, allowing her to want for nothing in life, so she’s a bit of a lost soul. She has no drive to be the greatest or strongest and doesn’t seek adventure.

Briar Rose has a mythical Zoan fruit: Titania (the cherry design was inspired by Boa’s fruit). This fruit allows her to take the form of Titania, standing at 13 feet tall at her full Seelie Court form. The inspiration of this form is based around hawks and rose motifs, (the hair is inspired by Rose Quartz’ rose curls). While this form may have feather so lack any sort of fairy wings and therefore can’t fly; but maybe one day! She is able to summon small sprites which have a variety of uses; like minor illusions. She does also possess an Unseelie Court form but won’t use this one as she’s yet to be strong enough to master it. They have a tendency to lose control in this form.

Due to the fae nature of their devil fruit, Rosie, is unable to lie, if she attempts to lie she’ll start coughing and choking up flowers. It only works for things that she knows is false, and while it was handy for Mihawk when they were young, Rosie has since learned to walk around lies.

Mihawk is a wonderful parent, more patient and doting than people would expect. The only flaw is that due to his tendency to get bore easily he has a habit of disappearing for days or even weeks at a time. Having become a bit too dependent on their father (and do to a traumatic event in the past that lead to her losing an eye), Briar Rose spends most of her time sitting by the window watching the sea when he’s gone.

Briar’s mother has always been a sore spot and they will get pretty angry if she’s brought up (Mihawk is largely indifferent to the topic).

Briar Rose’s best friend and pseudo-sister is Uta, they spend a lot of time together since their father’s are together.

Overall I feel like he might ask you for some tips on doing multiple things at once or he might lecture you on how you should focus on one thing before moving to another. But he really does think it's cool you can do so many random things at once

Leona

How do you have that energy? Sure if he's motivated enough he might be able to do some things but he just doesn't want to

Doesn't really mind what shenanigans you come up with. You could be juggling fire while cooking and he wouldn't really stop you. However, he might tell you to be careful in a very tsundere way

He's much more lenient than Riddle is on what activities you engage in (he thinks it's your choice). He won't be interested in becoming a multi-tasker but does enjoy watching you from time to time

Azul

Similar to Riddle, he wishes he could multi-task but he can only do that when learning spells and underwater (his octoform helps with this)

Is much more worried about your health than Leona. He will stop you from doing mounted archery and eating a sandwich if he has to because he doesn't want to see you get hurt

Probably more of a strict partner than the rest of them, but he does admire your ability to do a lot of things and not lose track. Hey, maybe you could help out in the lounge he works at!

Kalim

He probably multi-tasks similar to you but also on a chaotic level. You two are probably Jamil's worst nightmare haha

The two of you have definitely flown on the magic carpet while making tea. How this worked is a mystery to everyone

Idia's definitely a multi-tasker himself, mainly in the form of watching multiple animes at once while playing video games and studying however. If you're the type of person to do that too, you two will instantly click

He won't stop you but still cares about your health, he's just more on the lenient side. I feel like you two can and would do anime/video game nights a lot together

He's not really worried, he's more curious. He wants to know what you are interested in and what you do, also how you multi-task

Malleus might not do a lot of multi-tasking himself because he's not interested in it. However, he does find it fascinating to watch you do random things together at once, it's sort of like a new side of the world he's never really experienced.

He might ask you to teach him some tricks or activities your interested in. However, as a fae he knows that he's more durable than humans are and because of that he might worry for your wellbeing from time to time.

Are gnomes gnostic?

Short answer: Hell No.

In fact it's closer to say that the reverse is true.

Gnosticism holds that man is a spirit trapped in a prison of flesh (at least in very simplistic terms). The reality put forth by gnosticism is that the physical world is a Hell created by the demiurge which must be transcended in order for the spirit to be free.

Gnomes, however, are examples of the truth of the opposite of this notion. A gnome is in essence a spirit, as gnosticism holds that the core of a human being is. However, where gnosticism holds that the physical world is a prison, a gnome takes physical form because physicality and reality is paradise to a gnome.

Think of what gnomes do. They work with their hands, they labour, they nurture nature, they relax beneath a toadstool and enjoy listening to the sounds of the rain. Physical activities, sensory pleasures.

Does a gnome need to do this in the same way that a human needs to exert effort in this world in order to continue living? No.

You might say that if a human is supposedly a spirit trapped in a prison of flesh then a gnome is a living being trapped in a prison of formlessness.

Gnomes are ephemeral spirits, they do not need form, they take it. To them the world is a challange to be overcome and a treasure to be cherished. To be formless is easy and orderly but rather than choose to be above the trials and tribulations of living beings, gnomes take part. Why? Because a gnome is not content with simply being, it wishes to be doing. Even if all they do is sit and enjoy the feel of the sunshine on their face, that is an infinity more than existing as a formless thought.

A chaotic world of shapes and limits and actions is heaven. A gnome would believe there can only be joy where there is suffering also to define it.

They are the comrades of humans in this sense and this is likely why they are depicted as closer to human beings than to other fae creatures, we share in the suffering and enjoyment of life with them.

Gnomes are wise to love life and the world and human beings would be wise to learn from their example.

[Originally when Total Drama first came out, I had no interest in Chris and was more drawn to Duncan and later Scott. But as the show started to sour those boys for me, watching re-runs allowed me to focus on others...mainly Chris and my interest awakened. He became my reason to watch and I'm so glad that's the case as he's the most interesting and fleshed-out character. Starting out as a simple drama show host parody to evolving into a psychic remorseless narcissist with a body count of numerous dead interns spanning years of this series and eventually winds up in jail for none of that (which is hilarious) but he's such an icon that people went nuts when he got a new voice actor! (note: Christian Potenza later explained in an interview with YouTuber Corcoran Entertainment that he dropped out due to having faced false assault allegations that made Fresh TV "let him go" and recast him despite recording the reboot without warning, on top of no longer having any desire to continue voicing a character as sadistic as Chris)

Outside of that, Chris as a character is this fun bundle of nuts I enjoy shaking up and watching him go crazy. He has little concern for the well-being of his contestants – and even sometimes best friend Chef Hatchet as well. Chris feeds off the pain of the teenagers (honestly I don't blame him for this), physical and emotional, and strives to keep the drama in Total Drama alive at all times (based). He is a very selfish and arrogant man as he does not care about anyone or anything but money, higher ratings, and personal pleasure gained from the pain and suffering of others. Chris also enjoys messing with and preying upon the relationships of the contestants for his own personal gain as he loves it when contestants bicker, argue, and fight amongst each other (more based). He appears to have gotten increasingly sadistic as the series has progressed, with the challenges turning from humiliating and occasionally dangerous, to being full-on life-threatening. While he continues to elaborate that it is for high ratings, in later seasons it seems he is more concerned with causing pain than actually increasing the popularity with viewers.

In "The Final Wreck-ening", he excitedly explains that the challenge was so dangerous the network rejected the initial proposal - and he lies about shutting it down (this man is awesome). However, in one instance, Chris does actually begin to worry that the contestants may die (but only because this would result in no show, and thus no paycheck to support his luxurious lifestyle). Despite the negative points of being a reality show host, Chris loves his job and the fame that comes with it. He enjoys spending life in luxury, including catching some rays in his tanning bed and relaxing in his jacuzzi. He has tried other activities like hosting a cooking show and being in a boy band, but all of them have been ill-fated. Chris is frequently seen in various costumes when introducing challenges, with Chef often dressed up as well to coordinate with him. He is highly rebellious against the network lawyers. On a few occasions, he has shown to be somewhat childish as well, whining when he is displeased about something.

This guy is so chaotic neutral that I can totally see him secretly being a god or fae just dicking around with mortals for the lols and it would only make him cooler!]
