While trying to explain the 'Alignment Chart'...
Y/N: So, yeah, your alignment basically represents how you address interactions and conflict.
Barbara: Oh! It's like a moral compass then?
Y/N: I never thought about it like that, but you're absolutely right Barbara!
Adam: You're brilliant Honey! *pecks Barbara on the cheek*
Barbara: Thanks guys
Lydia: Right, so what does being Chaotic Good mean exactly?
Y/N: Good question Lyds. The characters I play tend to fall under Chaotic Good. What it means is that you, or your character, believe in doing what they think is right, no matter what the rules say.
Lydia: Gotcha. That sounds fun. And by that logic, Chaotic Evil would be something along the lines of... *subtly points to Beetlejuice messing with Y/N's miniatures*
Y/N: *snorts* Actually Lyds, that is an example of the newest alignment: Chaotic Dumbass
Lydia: *laughing* Well, you're not wrong!
BJ: *Looks up with a NPC mini up his nose* What's up?
Y/N, Barbara, Lydia, Adam: *various noises of disgust*
Y/N: *grossed out* Aw, c'mon man! First my dice, now my minis? Why?!
BJ: I was bored! It's not my fault your toys can fit up my nose
Barbara, Y/N, Adam, Lydia: *facepalm*
Adam: I'll get the Kleenex and tweezers.
Y/N & Barbara: Don't forget the Clorox!

Superhuman or Alien from the group: You should've tried harder!
Regular Human: Oh! Right! By doing what?! I'm a human! If I fall in the wrong way, I die!
Assassin: Didn't you mean "fall in the right way"?

I sometimes forget when I’m on my main accounts. Like my family and friends see the shit I say and do. Can’t have them know. Not very demure.

"Doctor Who is a good show". "Doctor Who is a bad show". Wrong. Doctor Who is a chaotic neutral show.

Encounter: the Uno (For Men & Women), chaotic-good Aberration used for warding by deities of that alignment; can leave a big brightly-colored kiss-print on any solid surface with the same effects as a Prismatic Wall of the same color, which is to say that upon a creature touching them:
Red: 10d6 Fire
Orange: 10d6 Acid
Yellow: 10d6 Lightning
Green: 10d6 Poison
Blue: 10d6 Cold
Indigo: Restrained/Petrified
Violet: Blinded

Since I don't really have any followers, I suspect no one will read this, but a while ago I started workshopping a dramatically different take on the axiomatic alignments.
Most of the "lawful means I follow laws or personal codes of ethics and chaotic means... I don't.... please ignore neutral and certainly don't ask how it differs from chaotic" arguments fall flat to me. It doesn't really feel like they're alignments at all, and certainly don't feel like they have any bearing on morality or ethics.
Then I realised something: in DnD, lawful and chaotic are actual laws of nature! What does Lawful as a law of nature versus Chaotic as a law of nature look like? Let's try a different approach: what if we mapped Lawful to Enlightenment and Chaotic to Romanticism. Lawful now would mean: I believe the universe follows immutable laws that can be determined through experimentation and evidence. Chaotic could now be something akin to Pratchettesque Narrativism: the universe follows stories and can be influenced by force of will.
Interestingly, these could map to the three mental stats in DnD: lawful with intelligence; chaotic with charisma. Leaving Neutral to those wise enough to realise that this universe has both as laws of nature (or perhaps those who don't care).
This changes the alignment matrix to the Moral dimension being why our character acts the way they do, and the Axiomatic dimension as to *how* they act.
In this framework, a Neutral Good character is Batman: wants to fix the world, and is prepared to do so with having the right tool for the job, and understanding how people think to manipulate their perception of the world to his advantage (see Batman Gambit)
A Chaotic Neutral character is now someone like Katniss: her motivations aren't selfish nor selfless, but her impact on the world is based on her carefully constructed narrative that's on show.
A true neutral character could be Taylor from Worm: handles that morality is rarely black or white, and works with both the utility of her powers and the public opinion both locally and globally to accomplish her goals.
There are some interesting implications of this new structure. Rogues are now Lawful and Paladins are now Chaotic. Sorcerers and bards can't be lawful, as their power is inherently chaotic. Wizards and artificers are the opposite. Clerics could be anything, but would naturally be inclined to neutral.
Additionally, it could also lead to better role play, as your alignment would naturally lend itself to certain decisions. A lawful character could gain inspiration from making a complex plan. A Chaotic one could benefit from an inspiring speech or persuasive argument. Perhaps an insightful observation for a neutral character?
In the end though, I haven't play-tested this, so it remains an idea. I'd like to try it sometime with a group interested in giving it a go though!
It’s very ironic that the best way to spark chaos in the D&D fandom is to ask people to define what “lawful” is in the context of alignment.
