it’s extremely funny to me that sonic not giving a shit about morality is one of his oldest character traits. like it’s from the sonic 1 japanese instruction manual. canonically he doesn’t do stuff bc he cares about right or wrong he just likes doing things. it’s just he likes making people happy and dislikes people who are awful to others. he’s an empathetic, friendly guy, which normally leads to him doing good, but he's entirely operating off of what brings him joy. and that leads to him being able to do some wild shit without a second thought. this is one of his earliest established character traits.

#sonic is chaotic good but he’s way more chaotic than good #bc he just does whatever the fuck he wants and what he wants is to protect his friends and beat up oppressive assholes #he's literally just having fun.#good for him tbh. it’s very funny.#if you go by chao garden rules the sonic chao Is neutral but sonic Influences chao to be good #which is probably digging too deep for analysis over something that’s solely a thing bc sa1 dc didn’t have alignment #but it’s a very funny sonic fact

What he's done to his son makes him deeply uncomfortable with himself #but that discomfort means absolutely nothing when he refuses to change or become a better person #and he does refuse to change. changing is hard #he still keeps hurting Dev at every turn and maybe to tries to justify it to himself as being for Devs own good #but regardless he is still refusing to listen to him and hurting him even more in the process #idk im rambling #I like to keep the abuse balanced out with these nothing little concessions on Dales part #tbh even this concession didnt come from the good of his heart he just wanted to avoid making a scene #also because the visual of Dale deciding CARRYING him everywhere is better than just letting him have his cane is very funny to me

#my characters #haha funny thing is that venus doesnt even exist in base plot she is ONLY for AUs #in base plot ego the ginger guy is a prince and serenity the navy haired guy is an energy alien #and serenity takes on the form of a human to be fake engaged to ego and its never meant to actually end up with them married #but serenity falls in love with the prince and feels immense guilt when they meet up #and then ego is like HAHA YEAH my life is the greatest cause i get to marry my best friend but technically youre best friend by default #since i have zero other friends because i cannot leave the castle which kinda sucks but whatever #and serenity can give his life force to others to keep them healthy and usually stops by to heal egos younger brother #so he looks tired a lot bc he is depleting his own life to help others #and and in au versions hes just chronically tired and very much in love with ego who is completely oblivious #and half the time they (bc theyre mine) are pining mutually thinking ahaha theres no WAY hed like me #or in egos case a lot of the time in the au its what if he only likes me cause i spoil him rotten bc im super wealthy and i love gifting #and serenity ! in base plot since he is an alien from like... space.... basically... another realm #he resides with another royal family in a different kingdom and the king there treats him like a son #which plays into the au versions where serenity is adopted and he just really loves his dad a lot #like really admires the man who adopted him and raised him as a single father who almost always has a connection to egos dad since #in base theyre just two kings being buddies and trying to get good relations between their kingdoms #but anyway ego is one of the few ocs i have that will actively say #I LOVE YOU SO MUCH : D very openly and i love that for him??#not a lot of my ocs will be that open about their feelings but ego is very good at communication and talking and stuff #compared to serenity who is an alien who doesnt even have to talk where he originated bc the aliens are just blue energy blobs #and they sense each other and communicate silently #so making him take a human form is like MMMM not sure how to interact like a normal human tbh #i owe art to one person then i am able to get back to indulgent stuff for me and reqs and stuff #this was just so i had something to post today since idk if the art i owe someone will be cool to post or not

another thing that stands out to me on reread is how eager sqq is for company and excitement. when they're investigating the skinner demon, he's so sad to have to stay in his room and not go to the market, and he's so excited that someone has come to talk to him and keep him company when ming fan shows up to update him on the investigation. with what limited insight we have into his life as shen yuan, it makes me wonder just how miserable he must've been. the common interpretation is that he was a shut-in without many friends, and seeing just how social he is as sqq (despite being restrained by sqq's misanthropic reputation!) he must have really been quite lonely and unhappy

#svsss reread #despite all the horrors he really does seem so much happier and fulfilled as sqq in the long run #he gets excitement and respect and purpose #and he gets friends! he has his sect siblings and airplane and his disciples and his sticky husband #there's no way he'll be lonely again #other updates from my reread: i think it's sweet that he seems to like ming fan #he loves his disciples!!!! he plays favorites obviously but he is generally very proud of these kids #also i love how he is very blunt about not being good at deduction #which is why he feels no shame using the easy mode #which tbh makes stuff later VERY funny #youre not good at deduction huh. im sure that won't bite you in the ass later #shen qingqiu most clueless man in the world. love him so much
