Par ailleurs, je tenais à vous entretenir d'une affaire qui me touche énormément ces derniers temps, et j'espère que je trouverai en vous une oreille attentive. Vous seriez presque la seule dans mon entourage.

Je ne sais si Jules vous en avait parlé, mais quand ma chère Marie est morte, elle venait de mettre au monde la petite Jeanne, et laissait également derrière elle (en plus de son fils), deux autres filles : Emma et Anne. Adelphe était alors encore hospitalisé à Compiègne et il était si bouleversé qu'à son retour, il est revenu habiter à la Butte-aux-Chênes. Ses filles résident chez leur tante Jacqueline, la soeur de Marie. Quand à Alexandre, il s'est aménagé un appartement dans le petit théâtre où il vit presque comme un reclus. Cet arrangement m'est apparu naturel pendant un temps, sans compter que dès qu'Adelphe et son fils sont dans la même pièce, le ton monte très rapidement. Récemment, les nouvelles rancunes d'Alexandre envers son père sont que ce dernier ne visite pas assez leurs soeurs. Lui-même est à cet égard un frère modèle, et ses soeurs sont la prunelle de ses yeux. Je n'y ai d'abord pas cru, car Adelphe est parti régulièrement de la maison pour les voir, et ce n'est pas son genre de mentir. Mais Jacqueline a pu certifier à Madame Eugénie que cela fait à ce jour des mois qu'Adelphe n'est plus assidu, qu'il manque de nombreuses visites chez ses filles.

Selon Madame Eugénie, Adelphe ne supporte pas de poser les yeux sur la petite Jeanne. Non pas qu'il lui reproche la mort de sa mère, mais plutôt que la petite ressemble tellement à Marie qu'il en a pleuré à plusieurs reprises. Notre matriarche accueille cette situation avec un fatalisme qui est apparemment une sorte d'habitude chez elle. Elle trouve tout cela regrettable, mais gare à qui oserais critiquer Adelphe !

Je pense très sincèrement qu'elle n'en a pas forcément conscience, mais qu'Adelphe est son préféré parmi ses petits-enfants, et au vu de son histoire, c'est compréhensible. Je comprends également que tout cela ait été très dur pour mon beau-frère, et que les expériences qu'il a vécues suffisent à changer un homme, mais je ne reconnais pas le père affectueux qu'il était, celui qui s'asseyait avec son fils pour l'aider à faire ses calculs, qui lui ébouriffait les cheveux avec affection, et qui regardait chacun de ses enfants comme si ils étaient les merveilles qui illuminent son existence. Je suis d'autant plus affligée que personne ne lui dit quoi que ce soit, et qu'en plus, il ne s'agirait pas de le remettre sur le droit chemin. A ce titre, même si je n'ai pas son caractère impulsif et colérique, je rejoins le point de vue d'Alexandre. Peu importe à quel point c'est difficile, les filles ont besoin de leur père. La petite Jeanne a à peine deux ans, et elle ne le voit presque jamais ! J'ai donc adopté une certaines distance et un ton assez froid quand je m'adresse à mon beau-frère, afin de lui faire connaître ma désapprobation. Constantin ne l'a bien entendu pas compris (il ne voit même pas en quoi la situation est problématique), mais j'ai enfin réussi à lui faire comprendre qu'il s'agit là de mes rapports avec Adelphe et que cela ne le concerne pas. Quand à Adelphe, il s'est montré blessé par mon comportement, ce qui était le but de la manoeuvre, mais il lui reste assez de dignité pour me le reprocher. Son visage se pare toujours d'un air profondément honteux quand je m'adresse à lui, et j'espère qu'ainsi, j'arriverai à le faire revenir à la raison.

J'ai conscience que cette situation vous parait bien complexe. Figurez vous par exemple que j'ai songé à plusieurs reprises à écrire une lettre à Alexandre pour lui faire savoir que j'étais d'accord avec lui, mais j'ai finalement renoncé, de crainte que Madame Eugénie n'en entende parler. Je ne tiens pas à ce qu'elle me mène la vie dure au nom de ce qu'elle considère comme un tabou. C'est sans doute à ce moment que j'ai définitivement fait le deuil de l'idée que je serai un jour maîtresse en ma propre maison.

Jacqueline « Cela fait plaisir de vous voir Madame Le Bris. »

Eugénie « De même Jacqueline, vous ne savez pas à quel point je vous suis reconnaissante de vous occuper des petites. Je ne suis plus de première jeunesse et Albertine est dans la période caporal de la maternité. »

Jacqueline « La période cap… ? »

Eugénie « Oui, vous savez. Ce moment où une mère doit régler les conflits entre un groupe d’adolescents geignards et les mettre au pas comme un sergent chef. Comme tu es mignonne Jeanne ! Tu m’appelleras Grand-Mère, ce sera plus simple. »

Eugénie « Quelle adorable petite. Elle ressemble tant à sa Maman... »

Jacqueline « C’est vrai… C’est parfois difficile de la regarder sans voir Marie dans ses yeux. »

Eugénie « Vous savez Jacqueline, si notre petite Jeanne ressemble tant à votre sœur, c’est de famille ! J’ai pleuré tant de fois en voyant le visage de sa mère dans celui d’Adelphe, tant celui-ci ressemble à ma Lazarine. »

Jacqueline « Adelphe oui… Dites-moi Madame Le Bris, quand Adelphe a t-il prévu de venir voir ses filles ? Je sais que ses relations avec Alexandre sont… quelques peu tendues, mais Anne et Emma n’ont pas vu leur Papa depuis longtemps, et elles le réclament. »

Jeanne « Papa ? »

Eugénie « Je ne comprends pas. N’est-il pas venu vous voir la semaine dernière ? »

Jacqueline « Pour être honnête avec vous Madame Le Bris, cela fait presque un mois que je ne l’ai pas vu. »

Eugénie « Un mois ? Mais c’est bien trop longtemps ! Il a du être pris par les affaires du domaine, je ne vois que cela. Adelphe a toujours été un père exemplaire, et je suis bien placée pour le savoir, c’est moi qui l’ai élevé ! »

Jacqueline « Ecoutez. Avant le décès de Marie, j’étais de votre avis. Mais cet événement l’a profondément changé. Lui plus que tous les autres voit Marie en Jeanne, et à chaque visite, c’est comme si il tentait de toutes ses forces de ne pas la regarder. Il n’a pas levé les yeux sur sa fille de deux ans depuis une éternité Madame ! Il vous a toujours écoutée, je vous en prie... »

Eugénie « Je pense que vous me prêtez un pouvoir que je n’ai sans doute pas. Je… je ne savais pas la situation si grave. Mais cette petite n’a déjà pas connu sa mère, elle a besoin de son Papa. Je ferai ce que je peux. »

Jeanne « Papa ? »

Eugénie « Oui, ma petite chérie. Ta Grand-Mère va te ramener ton Papa... »

au téléphone maman me demandait si j'étais déçue de berlin. j'ai dit que j'avais pas vraiment l'impression d'être déçue, je savais à peu près à quoi m'attendre en partant. le problème c'est que je partais déjà braquée. je lui ai dit de pas venir en août, elle devait venir en voiture avec m. pour m'apporter des trucs mais je préfère rester la plus légère possible et pouvoir repartir en transportant toutes mes affaires dans ma valise. tant pis pour mes tapis. elle m'a dit qu'une chambre se libèrerait peut être dans la coloc au dessus de m. mais est-ce que ça me donne autant envie que la coloc de l'ami de r.? non. j'ai ma réponse. si j'avais jamais rencontré r. est-ce que je serais heureuse à berlin aujourd'hui? mais la maison me manque et ma routine me manque et chanter fort me manque. hier n. chantait fort dans la salle de bain mais moi j'y arrive pas encore. en allant au cimetière j'écoutais modern love par zaho de sagazan en boucle et je me disais qu'il suffirait que je chante cette chanson à une soirée karaoké pour me guérir.

un point très positif que j'ai relevé tout de même: j'ai écrit à l'ami de r. pour la coloc. alors que l'année dernière j'avais pas osé écrire à camille b. les deux annonces m'ont fait pleurer mais au moins cette fois-ci j'ai agi. même si ça va rien donner. berlin a déjà déclenché quelque chose en moi. aussi: j'ai fait des efforts sur bumble. même si je reverrai probablement jamais cette fille, c'est pas grave. tout ce que je veux c'est être entourée de gens qui me stimulent et qui se conforment pas à la norme, qui font leur truc, des gens un peu foufous qui me font rire qui s'intéressent à plein de choses et qui ont un regard un peu décalé sur les choses, qui voient le monde à leur façon et qui ont des choses intéressantes à dire dessus, bon là je suis en train de penser à a. à chaque fois que j'ouvre telegram je vois sa tête choupinette à côté d'un phoque, je sais pas pourquoi ils me l'ont mise dans mes chats alors qu'on s'est jamais écrit sur telegram. à chaque fois j'ai envie de lui écrire mais comme c'est elle qui a rompu le contact j'ose pas. quand j'étais amoureuse d'elle j'arrivais à m'intéresser à absolument personne d'autre non plus. je dois être la personne la moins polyamoureuse de tout l'univers.

18 juillet

pas eu le courage d'aller jusqu'à mon cimetière préféré. celui-là est un peu moins beau et on entend le bruit de la route. j'en peux plus de mes journées à la con, j'arrête les transports en commun, je reste zoner dans les cimetières des alentours maintenant. ce matin quand je me suis levée j'ai eu une impression de vide mélangé à de la lourdeur et j'avais encore envie de pleurer. j'ai fait un peu de ménage dans la cuisine j'ai jeté la poubelle organique dégueulasse et je suis partie en excursion au malchower see pour me changer les idées. j'avais prévu d'écrire et de m'occuper des lettres de motivation aujourd'hui mais j'avais trop peur du vide, alors j'ai essayé de le remplir.

j'ai pris le mauvais tram et j'ai marché pendant une heure pour arriver au lac en passant par des petits chemins verts entre des grands immeubles très moches et quand je suis arrivée au lac c'était très bof, y avait que quelques endroits accessibles au bord de l'eau et ils étaient tous pris, alors j'ai continué et je suis arrivée dans une forêt humide infestée de gros moustiques marrons qui faisaient mal quand ils piquaient quelle horreur mais j'étais quand même un peu contente de me retrouver dans la nature. je suis ressortie sur la route de l'autre côté et j'ai pris le bus. le chauffeur portait une casquette de chauffeur et j'ai pas osé lui demander si j'étais dans le bon bus alors je me suis rongée les sangs pendant quelques kilomètres à l'idée d'atterrir encore plus loin de berlin que ce que j'étais déjà à mesure que je voyais les champs de blés et les éoliennes défiler par la fenêtre. il expliquait chaque manoeuvre qu'il faisait à son apprentie à côté de lui. à un moment on est passés sur une route très arborée et il lui disait qu'il adorait passer là parce qu'il était fasciné par les forêts et qu'il les trouvait un peu magiques. il disait qu'il avait jamais eu ni entendu d'expérience négative de la forêt, à part dans les contes de fée comme le chaperon rouge par exemple.

je regardais les maisons aux tuiles rutilantes dehors et je me disais que je pourrais avoir mille raisons de me trouver dans ce bus. je pourrais avoir un rdv à la clinique où on s'est arrêtés en chemin, je pourrais être ici pour mon oeil, pour voir un chirurgien spécialisé. je pourrais être au pair dans une famille qui vit en dehors de berlin. je pourrais être allemande et vivre dans le coin avec ma mère, comme au luxembourg mais ici. j'avais mon sac de la librairie de sète avec le poulpe rose fluo sur l'épaule. ce matin quand j'ai ouvert tumblr quelqu'un avait liké un post de septembre dernier quand j'étais à la mer et je l'ai relu mais j'aurais pas du. après une éternité dans ce bus j'ai trouvé la s bahn pour rentrer, j'ai vu mon reflet dans un train sur le quai et j'ai dit mmh pas mal. je me suis arrêté dans un nouveau supermarché parce que j'avais rien mangé depuis le matin et j'avais l'impression d'être toute faible et la caissière m'a compté un truc en trop et ça m'a chiffonnée jusqu'à la maison. je crois que c'était deux euros et quelques et je me disais deux euros c'est beaucoup mais deux euros c'est rien, alors c'est beaucoup ou c'est rien et est-ce que ça vaut la peine d'être chiffonnée pour deux euros?

"Oh shit." You cursed, sadly forgetting that your radio was on. "What's wrong?" Your engineer asked, concern evident in his voice. It was Q1, and the echo of your radio broadcasted your words through the big speakers of the stadium.

"I'm menstruating." You groaned, feeling the cramps intensify. "I'll need to make a pit stop after Q2 for a change of tires and a water break. I finished mine." You sighed, skillfully manoeuvring the hairpin turn.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix had been cancelled, making this the last race of the seain and luckily it was your home race. "Ah, I see." Your engineer chuckled, nodding quietly to himself. "Good luck, champ."

Successfully completing Q1 and Q2, you sat in the garage while your team changed your tires. "Do you think you can make it to pole position?" Your team principal crouched beside you, asking.

"My period is not an excuse for performing poorly, sir." You replied confidently. You had discovered that the adrenaline and concentration of racing somehow numbed your cramps. All you could feel was the rush of the race.

And you were successful. With your fans cheering loudly, you secured pole position. "I'm going to take a break right here. Someone get me some painkillers." You laughed into the radio, pulling up on a patch of grass and climbing out of the car.

Exhausted, you found yourself sleeping on the floor face down, completely drained from quali. Max parked a few meters ahead, spotting you in the unusual position, and knelt down to help you remove your helmet. He fed you a painkiller and handed you his water bottle, supporting you as you leaned against him.

The interaction was recorded on the big screen, and your fans were captivated by the tender moment. You rode on the side of Max's car, too exhausted to drive your own, as you made your way back to the garages. "Congrats on the pole. How are you feeling?" Max asked, concerned in his eyes.

"Pain." You replied jokingly, leaning forward slightly. You were grateful for Max's presence, his support providing comfort in a physically and emotionally demanding sport.

"Radio check." Out of instinct you began singing the first theme song that came to mind, super mario bros. It was a little tradition you had started as a rookie, featuring piano masterpieces or your favourite songs, sometimes even TV show intros and video game themes.

Your voice carried through the formation lap, as you tried to stay calm and composed. You looked at Max in your side mirrors, knowing he was watching over you with unwavering support.

". . . I understand what you mean." Max and you decided to to go to the track together on Sunday, your boyfriend driving because you did not have a driver's license.

"I will stay by your side no matter what . . . Until you kick me out of course." He joked making you chuckle. He smiled widely once he heard your laugh, lifting your hand to his mouth, pressing a soft kiss to your palm. "Never going to kick you out, Maxie." You loved him so much.

"And it's the last lap, the lap that decides the champion for this year. Redbull and Porsche are wheel to wheel, on their way to lap Hulkenberg and De Vries. Porsche is the first to- OH-" "Terrible crash there from Porsche and the Alpha Tauri. The red flag is out." "Still no movement from the Porsche driver."

"We can, fast forward it a little bit? Yeah?" The interviewer offered but max only shook his head, his eyes watching the clip on the tablet. "You can see me right there." Max chuckled pointing to his figure.

He was fighting, he was thrashing, trying to reach you. The marshals held him back as he begged to see you.

"You know, she told me earlier that day she was scared that she would either lose me or the race." Max chuckled feeling his eyes water, but he held them back. "It was me who ended up losing both in the end."

"No no no no. Please let me see her. Please." "Y/N PLEASE." He was crying. He was begging for you.

Max watched as he sat in his garage being comforted by your father, hugging him him tightly. "Very emotional moment." The interviewer commented as max watched the screen, blinking his tears away. "He gives very good hugs." Max commented weakly chuckling.

"And in first place, Y/N L/N. Who could not be here at the moment." Your trophy was set down on the highest pedestal, and max looked at your empty space longingly.

"When did you get the news?" "That's a sensitive topic." Max declined, finishing the interview shortly after. It was early Tuesday, and a year has passed since that race. Max walked quietly through your home circuit. Hands in his jean pockets.

He pulled out a velvet box, opening the box to look at the diamond. "Was going to ask the question on the podium." He told you, looking up at the 7ft statue put up in your memory.

Max pulled out a band aid, gently reaching up and putting it on your nose. "See you around." He sighed walking backwards, taking one last look at your statue before leaving.

You folded your arms, looking at your rival: Max Verstappen. The two of you had tied in the karting championship and were going to have to share first place with each other.

A glaring fight was taking place between the two teens' as your fathers tried to argue their way into getting the other off the the winning pedestal.

You huffed looking at Max's somehow injured nose, making you scrunched your nose in disgust. But your auntie taught you kindness, so despite hating Max Verstappen, you pulled a band aid and reached over. "Don't touch me." Max swatted your hand away, but you grabbed his bicep firmly.

"Hold still, will you?" You scolded him, pressing the band aid on his nose. "Your nose is bleeding." "Then don't touch it." He pushed you away.

"I was only trying to help." You pushed him back harder. How you ended up on the floor wrestling was a mystery to your family. You did end up sharing the trophy together, each holding a side of the trophy, frowning at the other.

To this day, Max has a picture of that memory in his wallet.

There’s still quite a bit to get used to, mind. Because you don’t need to pore over pages of combos and abilities, there are fewer hurdles to taking a new character for a spin. It’s an advantage that they don’t need.Īll of Lethal League’s ballplayers return, along with three new prospective champs. Getting the ball into the power-up device requires a bit of precision and timing, as it’s a moving target, which naturally means that the better player will receive most of the power-ups. There is one problem, however, which didn’t become clear until I was playing against someone who had a lot less experience. I’m actually not looking forward to the time when I know how each of them works, as the surprise and confusion is part of the magic. Maybe you’ll have to knock about an invisible ball, or perhaps it will become an electrocuting drone that you can directly control or even a rocket that can phase through walls. Nothing sows chaos like Blaze’s power-ups. In the middle of a fight, a device can appear that bestows a random power-up not on any player, but the ball. It calls to mind an over-the-top anime brawl, but it also serves a practical purpose by giving both players time to breathe. When you connect with a ball that’s going especially fast, for instance, you briefly freeze as all the power swells up. The tricky part is combining them all in battles where everything happens so quickly that reality itself gets a wee bit wonky. A few straightforward inputs are all you’re going to need to hold in your head, yet you can do so much with them. It’s a relief not to have to memorise more move lists. A slight change in the pattern might be all it takes to put your rival on the back foot. It’s more about manipulating its speed and direction, not just making it go very fast. It’s also possible to counter an attack by plucking the ball out of the air and pitching it back, baseball-style. What’s great about the bunt is that it stops the ball in its tracks but lets it keep its kinetic energy, so when you hit it again, it’s still got some speed. To get more control over it, you can give it a little bunt. Sure, a supersonic projectile might knock out your opponent, but it could just as easily be turned on you. You don’t always want the ball to be tearing across the screen. When the ball reaches cataclysmic speeds, everything starts to shake, the world turns red and I confess that I usually start shouting at that point because bloody hell is it intense. At a certain point, it doesn’t matter how much health you’ve got, it will smack you right out of the arena. At slow speeds, the ball can only do a small amount of damage, but as it gets faster, the prospect of missing it becomes terrifying. With every strike, the ball picks up speed until it’s moving so fast that there’s a very real concern that it might rip through time and space. It requires a lot of split-second tactical manoeuvring as you try to get both ball and opponent in position for your coup de grace. They’re probably not going to just stand there waiting for you, of course, so you’ve got to aim for where you expect them to be, not where they’re currently standing. You could, for instance, bounce the ball off the borders of the arena to get it behind the other player, catching them off-guard. There’s a bit more to landing a hit than just leathering the ball really hard. Ultimately, you’re trying to plant the ball right in your opponent’s smug face. But you don’t want to get stuck in a rally forever. If you keep hitting that ball back, you’ll stay concussion-free. It might be a baseball you’re knocking about, but Blaze frequently conjures up tense rallies that are more evocative of racket sports. When you smack it, the ball is tagged with your colour and can’t hurt you, but the other player can avoid taking damage by simply smacking the ball back, changing the colour again. Simple controls and an absence of elaborate combos means you can pick up a controller and just start swinging.Įverything orbits the ball, and the player with the most control over it wins. Like Smash Bros, its closest relative aside from the original Lethal League, it’s a party game. With one hit, the baseball can become a WMD. With the flick of the stick and the press of a button, I can launch a supersonic, earth-shaking strike that bombards my opponent from every direction. Few other games make hitting things, either balls or people, this immensely satisfying.

The ball is a relentless, physics-defying missile that, at full force, can almost be everywhere at once. In these duels, the baseball is the sole weapon. Imagine baseball, but then strip away all the parts that don’t involve whacking a ball, replacing them with violent duels between two to four brawlers. Lethal League Blaze is a springy, frenetic future-sport played by an underground league of robots, skaters, mercenaries and a sentient boombox.

LE PRAETOR

∙ Le Praetor est le corps offensif de l'armée. Considéré comme le plus prestigieux, le Praetor n'accepte que les meilleurs cadets de Westview (qu'ils soient diplômés ou pas de Brakebills). Il est dirigé par un général qui prête serment au Stratège en place et organise la stratégie militaire avec le général de la Legio. Sous le général se trouvent les deux centurions qui dirigent chacun un escadron : l'Escadron de Mars (usage de sigils uniquement) et l'Escadron de Minerve (usage d'armes et d'équipement). L'Escadron de Minerve dispose de ce qu'on appelle un équipement de manoeuvre tridimensionnelle, sorte de ceinture munie de deux grappins et d'un holster permettant de porter une arme. L'Escadron de Minerve peut donc aller de building en building sans poser le pied à terre et attaquer l'ennemi d'en haut. ∙ Pendant la Guerre, le Praetor, sous le contrôle des Shah, a mené des assauts brutaux, voire barbares contre le Bas. L'Escadron de Mars, particulièrement, a combattu (parfois jusqu'à la mort certaine de ses membres) pour éradiquer hommes, femmes et enfants de la surface de New York, usant (et abusant) du sigil de bestialité.

LA LEGIO

∙ La Legio est le corps défensif de l'armée. Elle accepte des cadets de toutes les casernes, mais se montre exigeante sur les résultats.  Elle est dirigée par un général qui prête serment au Stratège en place, comme le Praetor, et organise la stratégie militaire avec le général de ce dernier. Ls soldats de la Legio sont surnommés les hoplites. Sous le général se trouvent les deux palatins qui dirigent chacun une phalange, la Phalange Thermopyle et la Phalange Pyrrhique. En temps de guerre, les phalanges sont chargés de la protection des civils, de la pose de bombes et de missions de surveillance, qu'elles effectuent grâce à leur équipement de manoeuvre tridimensionnelle, pour se balader de gratte-ciel en gratte-ciel plutôt que de perdre du temps à pied. ∙ La Legio détache une partie de ses hoplites pour assurer un service de police et de patrouille au Haut. ∙ Pendant la Guerre, la Legio a combattu vaillamment mais n'a pas toujours su repousser les attaques du Bas.

L'ASCLEO

∙ L'Ascleo est le corps médical de l'armée. Son prestige est grand et être médecin militaire au Haut, c'est être un excellent parti. Du fait de la difficulté du métier (il faut pouvoir assumer des études de médecine, un enseignement militaire et maintenir un bon niveau de magie), l'Asleo ne recrute que très peu et est constamment en flux tendu, ce qui le rend difficile à diriger. L'Ascleo est dirigé par le médecin-chef de l'armée, qui supervise l'hôpital militaire mais aussi les incursions des médecins-soldats sur le champ de bataille. ∙ Pendant la Guerre, l'Ascleo a clairement souffert de son sous-effectif. L'opinion publique, ainsi que certains médecins, pense que l'Asleo a failli à son devoir en laissant mourir de nombreux soldats sur le champ de bataille.

LA SCHOLA

∙ La Schola n'est pas sensée exister. Elle ne possède pas de bureaux officiels, pas de reconnaissance, rien de tout cela. Mise en place par les Shah dans les années 30, la Schola est un réseau d'espions, d'empoisonneurs et d'assassins utilisés par le Clan Stratège pour servir ses intérêts. La Schola a des critères de recrutement variables : qu'importe la puissance de magie, tant qu'on a l'art et la manière de s'en servir (ou pas, d'ailleurs). La Schola est "gérée" par un maître-espion qui ne répond qu'au Stratège - pour assurer une loyauté mais aussi confidentialité, le maître-espion est un bâtard du Clan auquel appartient le Stratège.∙ À la suite de la guerre, la Schola a été l'institution la plus chamboulée. Devant faire face à un changement d'administration suite au passage des Shah aux Mulver en tant que Clan Stratège : d'autres façons de faire, d'autres façons de gérer, d'autres membres admis. Dans une situation délicate, la reconstruction perdure encore aujourd'hui pour s'assurer la solidité de la Schola une fois terminée.

Elle est Chorégraphe et Directrice Artistique. Spécialiste du Mouvement, du spectacle vivant, avec elle la magie, oui l’Âme Agit puisqu'elle relie Corps & Âme. 

Elle situe son approche entre Intuition & Stratégie et maîtrise l'Art de manoeuvrer avec habileté et intelligence émotionnelle afin de permettre aux gens de lâcher-prise, de laisser mourir, d’oser être Soi et de déployer toute leur Spiritualité au service de leur grand PourQuoi? 

Tishou impacte l'être en profondeur dans sa vérité, son Hypersensibilité, sa force d'adaptabilité, son engagement et sa foi. Aussi quelle ne fut pas notre surprise quelques jours plus tard, quand une nouvelle cliente fraichement débarquée de France demanda après nous à la réception. Grand-Mère, affublée des vêtements les plus couvrants qu'elle possédait et persuadée d'avoir débarqué dans le sixième cercle de l'Enfer, n'a pas goûté à notre manoeuvre. J'avoue que malgré mon ébahissement de la voir avec nous en Egypte, elle qui n'était jamais allée plus loin que Paris, je ne put m'empêcher de me demander quand était la dernière fois qu'elle m'avait sermonné ainsi, comme un petit garçon pris en faute. Sans doute quand j'étais encore un petit garçon justement.

Si ses récriminations n'étaient pas toutes fondées, je conçois à présent avec le recul que le plan monté avec Constantin était aussi puéril que mesquin. Croyez-moi, face au courroux d'une vénérable vieille dame, votre plus indécrottable fierté finit tout de même par vous quitter en un instant.

UPDATE: the Dyson V11 Absolute just appeared and offers slightly improved cleaning power and battery efficiency than the V10. We'll have a review soon.

It feels more manoeuvrable than the V10, and hence better able to switch between a dust-busting, spill-clearing, shelf-cleaning handheld, and a full-on corded vac replacement for your floor. Arguably, the V10's greater suction, larger bin and lower price make it a better choice, on paper, for carpet owners, but I'm not sure that in real-world use there's much to choose between them.

Bosch's BCS122GB Unlimited is the very best of the new breed of Dyson rivals and is arguably better than the V8 in certain respects. However it's also even more expensive than Dyson's vac and its dusting brush – an all-important part of a cordless, for us – is not very well designed.

However, when it comes to VFM, there is a new cordless champ in town and it's the Vax Blade 2 Max. This matches the Dysons when it comes to floor cleaning. It's not as good as the V8 for handheld use, but it does a stand-up job in that department. Add battery life that's as good or better than the Dysons, and a bloody great LED headlight, then take into account that Vax's model is significantly cheaper, and you have a winning cordless package.

Because of the way they've developed since Dyson made them a more premium, versatile product, they're good for everything from traditional uses, such as cleaning out the footwell of your car, to properly vacuuming large expanses of carpet.

Cordless vacs do come with disadvantages. In order to keep the weight low enough to make them useful, the lithium-ion batteries they use can't be all that big and heavy, and so their battery  life is invariably quite short – usually no more than 20 minutes at full power, up to 40 or so at the lower power settings (that nobody uses). Dyson has addressed this by gradually improving its batteries over the years, but now some other brands are taking a rather simpler approach to the problem and including two batteries.

A lot of homes' floors can be given a good enough clean in 20 minutes, especially if you're using your handheld daily to maintain a dust-free domicile. Your other option, of course, is to buy a corded vac for the weekly/monthly/annual Big Vacuuming and use the handheld for smaller tasks.

If you live in a house with lots of carpets and two or more bedrooms, a cordless vac is still a great supplement to your mains one. If you have a flat with mainly hard floors, you can probably forget about a cylinder or standup.

Nearly all cordless vacs are bagless, which seems like a great feature initially. Then, when you come to empty their often small, usually translucent dust bins, you may initially find yourself cursing the day you ever bought one. With practice, if the vac is sufficiently well designed, this will become less of a problem, but the only one we'd unreservedly recommend in this department is the Dyson V8. Its bin emptying mechanism is sheer poetry in motion.

Finally, most stick vacs come with a range of heads for different surfaces, crevices, pet hair and so on. You can usually also buy cheaper versions of the vacs with just one or two basic heads, but, as the old saying goes, more heads are better than some.

That's a handy saving when you consider that it comes to cleaning floors, it seems at least as good.

It's a similar story with battery life, which again seems at least as good as the V10. It's hard to declare a precise battery life for cordless vacs because of the varying real-world ways they get used, but the Blade 2 generally seems to last longer than the Dyson in both Max Power and standard modes.

On both hard and carpeted floors, in my view, the Blade 2 outperforms any Dyson. Its spinning brush bar is highly effective, apart from a few occasions when it sprays stuff around rather than diverting it down the Vax's suction tube, and suction is very good even if you turn it off. Perhaps the Blade 2 Max's real pièce de résistance is its headlight, which activates alongside the brush bar and really helps with cleaning in dimly lit areas. The bin mechanism isn't as ingenious as Dyson's but it's easy enough to empty.

The main drawback of the Vax Blade 2 compared to Dysons (the V8 in particular) is that it's much less fun to use as a handheld, when cleaning surfaces other than your flooring.

Also, the Blade 2 is clearly not as chic as a Dyson. It's not hideous, though, and I dare say most people probably aren't that bothered what their vac looks like anyway. It does make a much more horrible racket, though.

That aside, the Blade 2 comes highly recommended.

2. Since then the V10 has come along, and wants to be the cordless vacuum that really kills corded vacs, but the V8 is still a better option, IMO.

This is a battery-powered vacuum that can work as a pure handheld, compact vac – cleaning your car, taking crumbs off worktops, dust off shelves and, with its longer tube, cobwebs off your ceiling. But it can also genuinely replace a corded vac when it comes to both carpets and hard floors.

Moreover, it's sufficiently attractive – okay, I'm talking only just, rather than 'it's a gorgeous, dust-sucking objet d'art' – to just leave lying around in the kitchen or hallway (or attached to the wall with its well-made mount). So when a spill occurs or you notice a messy bit of floor, you don't have to go and retrieve it from 'the special cupboard'. It is the ultimate 'clean a little, but often' vac.

As ever with cordless vacs there are big caveats for those with large houses or a more 'traditional' attitude to cleaning. The number of extra tools required to make it as versatile as it it can initially leave you scratching your head figuring out which one to use for what (although, in my experience, the 'main' head is just as good as the 'spongey' one for hard floors, and the pet hair sucking one is probably overkill if you don't have allergies or a near pathological aversion to pet hair (remind me, why did you buy that golden retriever, then?)

Aside from the aforementioned large, powered brushes – one with spinning bristles for carpets and the hardfloor-only one, which is a revolving cylindrical 'sponge' that polishes while it sweeps, while it sucks – there are also titchier hand brushes and nozzles in the Absolute package, including a mini motorised hand tool for sofas and cars.

So yes, you do need to chop and change heads, but whatever is attached to it, the V8 collects a commendable amount of detritus on both hard and carpeted floors. It's a breeze to use in all areas, including under cupboards with just three inches of clearance.

But the reason I say the V8 is the 'ultimate' cordless vac is that it does finally correct some long-standing flaws with Dyson's handhelds.

Firstly, emptying the bin. This used to involve digging around it with a chopstick, which just doesn't feel that premium. With the V8, you just pull up a red latch and the entire motor and filter arrangement lifts out, as the bottom hatch opens, emptying everything into the bin, with nothing stuck to the filter. Push the filter and motor back into place and anything stuck to it is squeegeed off by its housing. Then just flip the lid shut.

The other V8 improvement is to the battery. It will now go for 40 minutes as a handheld (with the basic but well designed brush and crevice tools) and 20 or so with the powered floor brushes. That's on the standard power setting. With the turbo setting on, it would seem that the V8 lasts about 10 minutes or so.

Mine's on charge when I am not using it, and I have never ever run out of battery whilst cleaning. However, if you really want to use it as a straight replacement for something like a Miele or Henry, and your habit is to spend half an hour or more doing your entire place in one go, the V8 may not work for you as you wish.

3. DYSON CYCLONE V10 ABSOLUTE Updated cordless vac can do everything a corded one can, and a whole lot more SPECIFICATIONS Power: 28AW-125AWPower boost: YesWeight: 2.68kgMaximum run time: About 20-60 mins depending on power setting REASONS TO BUY +Sucks like a high quality corded vac +Doubles niftily as a handheld +More powerful, longer battery and bigger bin than the V8 REASONS TO AVOID -Bulk and weight make it less versatile and fun to use than the V8 TODAY'S BEST DEALS CHECK AMAZON INDIA The Cyclone V10 is a slightly odd device in that it successfully addresses many key issues that users have had with previous Dyson cordless vacs, yet ends up being only just better than its predecessor.

Should you buy a Dyson Cyclone V10? If you have loadsa carpets, and want a cordless… definitely, yes. It's noticeably more powerful and has a better carpet-cleaning head than the V8, which was itself head and shoulders above all the other battery-powered vacs.

The bin is much bigger, in order to hold all the extra fluff and gunk yanked out of your rugs and carpets by the stronger motor. It's grown by 'up to 40%' (I'm not sure why the 'up to' bit is in there) says Dyson. It's also still easy to open and empty into the trash, without dispensing the dust back onto your floor.

My slight issue with the V10 is that its added bulk and weight makes it a bit more of a chore to use than the V8, and cleaning is not noticeably better on hard floors and other non-furry surfaces.

The increased size makes it more problematic to keep the Cyclone V10 to hand in your kitchen, a little more difficult to manoeuvre when dealing with spills and dusting shelves and surfaces, and less comfortable when doing floors.

On the other hand, with three power settings instead of two, and an improved battery, you don't need to charge the V10 as often – though please note that the quoted 1 hour is only when you use the lowest power setting and a non-mechanised head.

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is also generally cheaper than the V8, which is hard to argue with as a selling point.

Previous Bosch cordless vacs have been a bit iffy in terms of heft and looks. To be brutally frank, they were fatty boom booms. Not so the BCS122GB Unlimited, which is, if I may again speak frankly, a Dyson clone. But a very, very good one.

There are three absolutely fantastic things about the BCS122GB Unlimited and only one egregiously crap one. Firstly, although its battery life is fairly pitiful, Bosch gets around this by the ingenious means of… including a second battery.

As they charge fully in about an hour, these 18v cells should keep you vacuuming indefinitely, so long as you're judicious about charging one while using the other. Interestingly (or not, perhaps), they are also the exact same batteries and charger used in all Bosch's 18v power tool range, so you could use the same cell to drill a hole in a wall, and then suck up the debris.

The other selling points are that cleaning performance on carpet and hard floor is excellent, and well up to Dyson standard in real-life, day-to-day use (I try not to get too bogged down in seeing which vac can suck up one square metre of rice crispies or flour the best.) It's even pretty passable without the turbo mode engaged.

Oh, and the long crevice tool. This looks absolutely ridiculous, turning the vac into a sort of robot anteater, but it is fantastically useful for cleaning skirting boards, footwells, down the back of the washing machine and so on. But seriously, just look at it.
