𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐆… 𝐌𝐘 𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐎 𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑, 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐓𝐎𝐍
❝ Will Welton dearly loved his older sister, but he’d never exactly endeavoured to work for her. Then again, he didn’t suppose Rebecca had ever endeavoured to have her rat bastard of a husband cheat on her with about a million different women and then to take over his football club and manage it with very little help, and also his sister was very bossy and he’d never been the best at refusing her. As such, when Rebecca had taken over UFC Richmond and asked him to become the new head of the team’s PR department, he had agreed, completely ditching his stable, well-paying job at a PR firm to work for inconsistent money at a failing football club, purely for the sake of sibling love.
Another thing Will hadn’t exactly been expecting was the hiring of Ted Lasso. Granted, he was terribly glad that Rebecca had fired Richmond’s old coach, that homophobic perverted dickhead, but he did have to question his sister’s judgement in hiring an American man who knew next to nothing about European football to coach a team that was already close to relegation, no matter how sweet and optimistic he was. Add on the fact that Rupert, her ex-husband, kept popping up just to be an asshole and that Richmond’s star player was an arrogant little prick who was antagonizing and isolating his teammates, and Will was left with a PR nightmare on his hands and an ever-growing suspicion that his sister was actively trying to sabotage herself.
Amid all of this chaos, though, Will finds himself striking up a friendship with Ted, whose unflappable cheerfulness and delectable biscuits are endearing like nothing Will has seen in another human before. But Will, who has had exactly one long-term relationship with a man since he came out at twenty-four and has an unfortunate history of developing feelings for straight men, is determined not to let his feelings for Ted, who is so painfully straight it’s not funny, be anything beyond strictly platonic.
Of course, nothing in Will’s life has been as he expected since Rebecca took over Richmond. Why should this? ❞

“How much more money do any of you really need? Why would you ever consider taking something away from people that means so much to them? This isn’t a game. Football isn’t just a game. It’s one of those amazing things in life that can make you feel shit one moment… and then, like it’s Christmas morning the next. It has the ability to make heroes and villains out of ordinary men. People love this game. My father loved this game. You all used to love this game. I’m sure of it. Just because we own these teams doesn’t mean they belong to us. And I don’t want to be part of something that could possibly destroy this beautiful game. Because I would hate for all those little kids and grown-ups out there to ever lose access to that beautiful, passionate part of themselves.” — requested by @lgbthenry

I haven't seen anyone talk about it, or maybe someone noticed but didn't said anything...
Neil and Charlie are connected, not only by the bonds of friendship but also by their shared symbolism of “death”, which is shown at the very end of the movie/book when their seats were empty. They are both key characters and as those who, despite their differences, are very similar.
Let's start with Neil. We all know that Neil is the one who started the dead poets society in 1959, he is the speaker and the leader of the group, as if leading the boys. He is the first to find the album with Keating's photo in it, the first to learn what the society is (yeah boys were near him), the first to read the official opening speech and assign roles to everyone. Who will read and who won’t. He acts as a confident person, his actions are based on a new feeling and finding freedom from the grip of his father. Everyone noticed how he looked at Keating when he gave his famous speech that every person in this fandom knows?
Yes, you can't help but notice how his eyes shine with hope, that he like a prisoner, will free himself from the shackles and escape from the clutches of his father. By the way, about his dad.
This man plays a very important role in Neil's life, as he does in his, albeit in the most disgusting way. His father sees himself in him only in his youth, he wants to achieve what he could not in the past. He uses Neil to turn back the time and become an ideal version of himself without caring what Neil thinks. Most likely, Mr. Perry was an unsuccessful person and perhaps he did not succeed in many things, proving this with the following phrases: "I sacrificed so much for you to be here" and "you have opportunities that I don’t had” He kind of puts pressure on Neil shoulders to give him false motivation to do things as he said, setting himself as an example, like... if you don’t do as I say, then the worst will happen to you, because I know better than you and I have lived longer than you. His father makes his son a submissive and obedient boy who is obliged to do and act as he is told, simply because he has no choice, because he is inexperienced and "impressionable" in the opinion of his father and he must definitely listen to the one who knows better in order to avoid the worst outcome. Just lower your head and show obedience like everyone else.
By the way, it is interesting that in the book the first description of Neil, and the first words about his appearance sound like this: "The breast pocket of his Welton blazer was covered with a huge cluster of achievement pins." (page 5, ch.1) Ironic, right? Now try to close your eyes and imagine the same student, without imagining Neil. What impression will you have of him? Right.. smart, successful with a brilliant future. This is what people who don’t know Neil see. He has become someone who is held up as an example. A diligent student and an example of behavior. Even the fact that in the book he wears a pillar with the inscription "excellence" as if hanging a label of idealism and perfection on himself. That is why they gave him this sign, so that he would carry it, introducing himself as the personification of that very perfection that teachers want to have in their students. But is that what he needs? Neil did not know what he wanted, he did not allow himself to go beyond what was permitted, always silently and following the rules. Afraid of getting burned like a moth over a fire. He was suppressed by his father, all the time his desires and dreams were rejected and not accepted, because there is a coordinate system and you cannot move against it. I can even assume that his father pressured him if his academic results did not satisfy him, from which Neil tried to prove that he could do better, because he wants his father to be proud of him and love him for being a good son, perhaps Mr. Perry could punish Neil for disobedience, from which the boy began to fear his father like a nightmare. Remember the scene when his father entered the room at the very beginning of the movie after the ceremony? Neil's behavior changed from before to after. With his friends he was happy, self-confident and the life of the party, but when his father showed up on the doorstep all of these traits were washed away and Neil showed his fear and insecurity.
So he hid himself, his dreams, ambitions and desires including emotions in front of his father. Several times in the book, (the movie didn’t showed it) Neil had the outbursts and slightly hysterical release of his emotions he was holding when his father was around. “Neil held the achievement pin in his hand as he spoke. “The bastard!” he shouted suddenly, jabbing his thumb with the metal point of the pin and drawing blood. Todd winced, but Neil just stared at the blood intently. He pulled the pin out and hurled it against the wall.” (Page 19, Chap3)
“Mr. Perry turned and stalked out. Neil stood still for a long time, then, walking to his desk, he started pounding on it, harder and harder until his fists went numb and tears began rolling down his cheeks.” (Page 119, chap11) Neil isn’t an emotionally stable person because his emotions only show when his father is not around. He is mentally weak because he is afraid to speak his mind around someone who will not listen to him. This is important and worth remembering because Neil has no voice around his father, so he did not tell him what he wanted, so he kept silent because he understood and built a mental reflex that his father's stubborn nature would still make him do what Neil does not want. He already knows what his father will say. Rejection. This is his weak point. He is afraid of rejection and does not want to hear it again, because he has heard it so many times ... over and over again. This Neil is very different from the confident guy he shows himself to be in society.
he did not share his feelings/thoughts with anyone, because he most likely not had close friends except Charlie. Because His entire life was planned and controlled by his authoritarian father, from A to Z. His dad would’ve probably not be happy about his son being friends with the “who the hell knows”.
That's why when he heard Keating's words about enjoying the moment, living here and now while this moment is here because one day it won't be. Carpe diem my friend. You need to look at things in the different way and not be afraid of what others think because what matters is what you think. These words entered Neil's thoughts as a basis for changing his situation, to free himself from the shackles and become who he always wanted. Because if not, this moment will never come. He began to think differently and began to go towards his dream that he wanted to acquire so much. Neil was slowly drowning in his ideal world, living freely and hopelessly, but he misunderstood Keating's words, because he had to change his idea of the world and not himself. Neil did not understand that you cannot change the situation you are in, you can only change your idea and vision of it. He wanted to take control, but he forgot that sucking out the bone marrow, you need to do it so as not to choke on the bone. It is interesting that he was the first to come and recreate the Dead poets society and the first to leave, thus killing this society.
His death has a huge influence on the plot as well as on the symbolism itself, because if you look closely, in the book he dies with his crown of flowers as if killing his personality "Puck" through which he embodied the archetype of the deceiver (his father’s deceiver), challenging the established standards of behaviour. The second one is a reference to Jesus that many talk about. So, if you think about it, the crown of branches that he wore is very similar to the one that Jesus had. At first, he looks up, supposedly into the sky, in search of the meaning of life and pondering his decision. He puts on the crown, proclaiming himself his own liberator, just as Jesus was in Christian culture.
He didn't want to depend on his father or the rotten system anymore, Neil thought he would make his own decision outside of his father's wishes. After all, if there is no freedom in life itself, then why should he live?
Then, he lowers his head as if accepting his fate and knowing that he has chosen the right path for himself.
Neil showed obedience to himself and not to someone else which made him one step freer before he got freedom completely. He, like Jesus, accepted himself as a sacrifice in the face of freedom intending to be free even if not for others then for himself. Therefore, it was his own "crucifixion".
It is interesting that he lowers his head just like the boy from that very wall painting.
Okay, but then how does he relate to Charlie? It's simple, Charlie isn't always himself either, and unlike Neil's hidden symbolism, he directly proclaims himself to be another person, namely "Nuwanda". He abandons his boring, past self by forgetting who he was through self-destruction. "I have an announcement. In keeping with the spirit of passionate experimentation of the Dead Poets, I'm giving up the name Charles Dalton. From now on, call me 'Nuwanda.'" (page 89, chap9) In the same way, he added more nuances to his personality, such as his famous phrase "getting red" and when he painted the Indian symbol of virility on his torso supposedly giving himself confidence through the symbol's underlying meaning, which is anchored in the Indian goddess Shiva-Lingam which signifies masculinity, virility and association with fertility due to its sexual significance.
The same goes for the symbols he drew on his cheek, what's interesting is that in the movie he drew it with lipstick using red again, which usually symbolizes power, passion and life, this colour is used to attract attention. But in the book... he literally scrapes dirt off the wall to draw this symbol on his cheek. (What a cheerful boy fr)
Charlie is a time bomb. He constantly has ideas in his head, at first it may seem empty but there really is a lot of things, plus this “dish” is also seasoned with the guy's self-confidence and huge ego. This is proven by the fact that Charlie literally claimed the cave when he entered it and then used it to bring girls, without worrying about the opinions of others. He kind of stands as an example of the opposite of the Welton school value system, and encourages boys not to be afraid to be more confident. In the film, he was the first to support Neil in the idea of creating a club, standing on his side, and also defending him after Cameron's betrayal at the very end, knowing that he is risking his education in Welton, but he is not afraid to take on such responsibility ... well, because why should he be afraid? He already has a future full of money, knowing that his father will force him to work with his business. By the way, about his father.
Unlike Neil, his relationship with his father is controversial and he can fight back with the confidence that he will be forgiven. In the film, his parents are shown in the background.
And in the book we only know his mother. I can assume that Charlie is a child from a rich family who lives as an accessory in the hands of his parents. He, like Neil, is the "pride" of his parents and should be an example, only Charlie does not want to follow the coordinate system and enter it instead he moves against it. Like Neil at the end of his path.
We know that Rebellion is already embedded in any ideology at the time of its creation, and rebels only personify rebellion and do not bring it to the established system of values. After all, there will always be those who are against the established system, moving in the opposite direction and trying to find other conclusions, other ideas that will definitely suit a certain type.
Charlie could become a rebel for two reasons, the first: the search for attention. Unlike the hyper-care of Neil's father over his son, his father could be so bogged down in work that he forgot about his own son, perhaps not even his beloved, because then the marriage would be of convenience. His parents did not give him enough attention, pushing him away, rejecting him. He wanted to be noticed by them so that they would give him love, so he tried to achieve it in every possible way and it became a habit. Or the second option: He was tired of living a pretense. Straightforwardness is always a way out when it’s difficult to explain. Just be simple and do not bother to be complex, so the fear of making a mistake disappears. So Charlie did, because as far back as he could remember, he hated being told how he should behave, how he should talk to guests, how he should smile, how he should take utensils for food, and so on. Charlie was tired of seeing people from high society smiling at each other with such hypocrisy, as if a second ago they had not been in deep judgmental discussion. The world of big business disgusted Charlie, because those people were too worried about how they looked in front of others and they ran after status. Charlie was a prisoner of this every day and he didn't want to be like the others, he wanted to create something of his own in his personality, something that the others didn't have and something that would distinguish them from him, or him from them. So he chose the easy way - rebellion. So Keating's words meant something to him in the sense that he would enjoy the moment of rebelling against the school's rules and building his own system. Charlie could relate to his own approaching "death" if life at Welton was not symbolic but real. That is, his expulsion is an actual death. It could be similar to the phrase that Carpe diem oppose - Memento Mori. Carpe diem, in simple terms, says that death is inevitable, but it is unknown when it will come, and therefore it should not be feared, but instead enjoy the moment, which is what Keating taught his students, but there is also memento mori, which says that death is inevitable, but the moment of its onset can be delayed by behaving, so to speak, you should live “correctly” and act rationally for the benefit of your own life. In other words, memento mori means that everything is in your hands and when you die is determined by how you live. And Carpe diem is about the opposite, that nothing depends on you. And therefore you can and should take everything from life here and now. These two terms are closely related to the understanding of Keating's lessons, so each DPS boy had his own end. Tragic or partly happy. Knox and Todd understood that you can't change this system, but you can change your attitude towards it by finding beauty in things and avoiding death, but Neil and Charlie didn't understand him, wanting to change system and putting their lives on the line, so both of their seats are empty at the end.
If you think about it... Charlie is Neil's desire for suicide. After all, he too is moving towards self-destruction by excluding himself from the system directly through death, while Charlie does it indirectly by going through exclusion.

i know now it’ll pass - ch. 1
still me here
You have to understand, working at Nelson Road isn’t what everyone thinks it is. It’s a job. You’re not best friends with Ms. Welton, you don’t share inside jokes with Coach Lasso, and not a single member of the team could pick you out from a crowd. You talked to Keeley Jones exactly one time when she stumbled upon your office, lost in a hunt for Roy.
And none of that is bad. It’s not a bad thing. What it is is good money and security to get your own one-bedroom flat as well as food on the table and whatever else you might need. You have a few friends there and your direct supervisor is nice and overall it’s a great environment. You’re not sure you could ask for anything more.
It’s just not as glamorous as people believe.
Your friends think it’s great that you work in the same building as AFC Richmond legends like Roy Kent and Dani Rojas. They bombard you with questions every girls’ night, which you indulge with a laugh.
As you sip your drink on the couch, surrounded by friends and giggles, you decide you live a pretty great life.
—
You don’t sleep well. You never have, and you’re concerned you never will. You’ve taken to sitting on your front steps with a blanket and a cup of tea in the hopes that it will cause your body to produce melatonin so you can get enough sleep to get through the day. Your “tea time” is usually anywhere from 2am-5am, and you’ve woken up many a morning curled up on the steps.
There are two good things that come out of tea time: the sunrise and your increased ability to cover up the bags under your eyes.
This Monday is different in that it’s worse. Much worse.
You’ve been on the porch for three goddamn hours, since 1am, and nothing is helping. You’re so tired that your eyes feel like little weights, and yet you can’t fall asleep.
You’re leaning against a support beam with the realization that your work day is going to suck, when you see Jamie run by in the street. He doesn’t see you, what with it being 4:15am and all. Roy jogs by a few minutes later. You wince. You can tell his knee’s killing him by the way he’s running. He’ll probably take it out on the lads at training, and you find strange comfort in the knowledge that you’re not the only one who will be suffering at Nelson Road.
—
Oh god, you’re going to die. This is it, this is the end, death is imminent and you’re going to let the Grim Reaper snatch you with his scythe or whatever the hell he does with that thing.
See, Mondays are when you get all your steps in because you’re walking all up and down Nelson Road collecting signatures and passing around documents. It’s usually pretty nice and culminates in a stop at Higgins’ office, who will offer you whatever candy he has at his desk or sometimes a cup of tea.
(He has a knack for offering the tea when you’re especially tired. You’re not sure how he can tell, but chalk it up to the plethora of sons he has.)
Anyway, this Monday you’re on your way to meet Higgins with a bundle of papers in your arms and you must have blacked out ever so slightly because you rammed straight into the team coming in from the pitch for lunch.
Documents are flying and you’re wobbly on your feet and now there’s like twenty beefy footballers helping you scramble to pick everything up while you say, “Sorry, sorry,” on repeat.
“Not a problem, love,” says Jamie Tartt, handing you the completed stack. It’s a little wrinkled and haphazard, but all you can think about is the fact that you revealed yourself to be a klutz to the whole team.
Girls’ night is about to get embarrassing. Especially because Jamie’s hand brushed yours for a millisecond and it caused literal sparks to shoot up your arm.
You’re frozen as they walk away, silently cursing your stupid screwed up sleep patterns. You had better get some sleep tonight.
—
You don’t. Your mind keeps replaying that touch like you’re a middle school girl who’s just discovered boys don’t have cooties. You wrestle a few hours in between 11 and 3, but find yourself on the steps again by 4, definitely not hoping Jamie runs by again.
He doesn’t.
—
Tuesday is not worse, but it’s not better. You’re eating lunch at your desk because you’ve decided never to leave it again, but unfortunately Jim in HR needs a signature and you’re the one who has to get up so he can collect it. You sigh and close your laptop.
You’re padding to the other side of the building and congratulating yourself on the decision to wear flats today when you turn a corner and smack into something solid.
You stumble back but catch yourself before you hit the ground.
“God, I’m so sorry,” you say to Jamie Tartt’s blue eyes.
He half-grins. “Little wobbly there, innit?” he says before he’s gone.
Rats.
—
Tuesday night means you’re awake due to sheer humiliation. It’s bad enough that your celebrity crush is now Jamie Tartt, but the fact that you’ve literally talked to him twice and both times have been because you weren’t watching where you were going?
You have half a mind to email in your resignation, but as you put the kettle on for 3am tea you realize you need the stability Nelson Road provides. You’re not sure you can go back to living with three other flatmates.
Your only consolation is that there’s no way Jamie Tartt knows who you are or that his damn blue eyes are seared into your brain.
You’ve snatched five hours of sleep this time, and you’re hoping you’ll be asleep again before the sunrise, but the odds are not looking good. It’s Wednesday, and you’re going to need all the help you can get in order to make it through the longest day of the week.
Jamie runs by again. Roy notices you under the porch light and gives a two-finger salute as he hobbles by. You raise your cup in return, grateful that he at least will have no idea who you are, much less that you work in the same building.
—
Wednesday is fine except you’re exhausted, and Laughing Liam’s goddamn laugh is making your head pound. You set a timer and fall asleep on your lunch break.
—
You take a breath. Then another. And another. Deep breaths, you remind yourself. It’s not that big of a deal.
You skipped the porch in favor of staying in bed, with the hopes that maybe a softer environment would be more conducive for sleep. It wasn’t, and the bags under your eyes are not good. They are so not good that you can’t completely cover them. You feel so awful that you forgo tea in favor of coffee, extra strong. You down it in three burning gulps and head out the door, ready to face Thursday.
—
It gives you a headache, but you’re awake. You’re trying to kill the dull, persistent pain with some water but it’s not helping. You rest your forehead on the community water jug for a moment as footsteps walk past you, slow down, then backtrack.
“Porch girl,” says Roy Kent, recognition in his voice.
You turn your head, still on the jug, and nod. Roy Kent nods back and grunts, “You’re up fucking early,” then keeps walking.
Ah shit.
—
Friday. It’s Friday. It’s Friday and you held off from sitting on the steps until exactly 2:37 at which point you felt that if you stayed in bed any longer, you would suffocate or go crazy. Maybe both.
You set down an empty cup of chamomile and pull your blanket closer as you inhale the crisp air. You feel something like sleep creeping up on you, so you close your eyes and finally succumb to the call.
You wake to someone shaking your shoulder and an urgent voice saying, “Oi, you dead? Can you hear me?”
You blink groggily, aware of the fact that you’ve just gotten maybe an hour of sleep and it isn’t going to be enough to get you through the day. Tears begin to slide down your face, unbidden, as you try to control your sheer frustration at being woken up.
“Oh shit,” says the voice, then Roy Kent says, “You fucking broke her,” and you think maybe you actually are still asleep and this is all a dream.
But it can’t be because the hand is still on your shoulder, and it’s warm and solid and there’s no way your subconscious would be so cruel as to have Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent find you passed out on your front steps.
Your subconscious wouldn’t be so cruel, but the universe apparently is.
You force your eyes open. Jamie and Roy look concerned.
“You alright?” Jamie asks. “Thought you were proper dead.”
“Jesus Christ,” Roy mutters, turning back to you. “Look, we’re sorry for waking you. We’ll get out of your fucking hair.”
You nod mutely as they turn and jog off. It’s not until they’re well out of sight that you realize they didn’t even ask your name.

Banter (Ch. 3)
Series: Banter
Pairing: Roy Kent x f!Reader
Summary: You break the ice with Roy and befriend Rebecca. Keeley lays down the facts with Roy.
A/N: I started a new job today!! Getting this up and out before the insanity of all of that begins.
(Ch. 1) (Ch. 2) // (Ch. 4) (Ch. 5)
series masterlist
Shutterbug: Hey
Shutterbug: Can we talk?
You messaged Roy two days ago and still hadn’t gotten a response.
Maybe he’d deleted the app. You’d certainly been tempted to after your failed date.
But Keeley was right. You needed to talk to him. To properly communicate now that you weren’t dealing with heightened emotions.
That’s what a real adult did. And God above did you want to behave like an adult.
But you were also dreading it. Keeley had made you second guess your assumptions about that night. You’d barely had time to dissect your own feelings about discovering it had been Roy that you’d been talking to for weeks. How that affected your feelings about him. It made sense that perhaps you’d been a bit too hasty in deciphering his own feelings about it based on his unreliable facial expressions.
But maybe Keeley was just giving you false hope. After two days with no answer, it was hard to read into that anything other than disinterest. Or maybe even some outright disdain.
“Roy!” You shouted.
You were back at AFC Richmond today to meet with Keeley and Rebecca. You had proofs to show them from the shoots and even though you had initially wished this meeting could have been virtual – or better yet – an email.
But now that you could see Roy Kent’s all-black form heading down the hallway ahead of you this presented a unique opportunity for you to put on your big girl pants and attempt a conversation.
Though, even with your ear-piercing shout that had caused every other person walking through the halls to turn and stare at you, Roy seemed to be intentionally ignoring you.
“Roy!” You tried again. Now walking at a near pace just below a jog to catch up to him.
You heard a grunt in response this time.
When you reach him he finally turns around and you try to remind yourself that the glare on his face is a permanent resident so as to not deter you from saying what you need to say.
“I just wanted to clear the air,” You tell him as he stares back at you.
“After last week and the whole… y’know,” You add to fill the silence.
“Mhmm,” Roy grunts.
“I just wanted to apologize if I came across rudely that night,” You continue. “I think we were both just surprised and obviously you wouldn’t have even shown up if you knew it was me so I’m sorry.”
You catch Roy’s bushy eyebrows furrow slightly and he parts his lips as if he wants to interject but he doesn’t say anything.
“We’re going to have to see each other around,” You continue. “Keeley keeps adding shoot days to this project.”
“Can we just… I don’t know, be friends?” You ask. “Colleagues?”
“Colleagues it is,” Roy replies with a nod.
“Great!” You reply with a relieved smile.
“See you around, Roy,” You tell him as you head up the stairs to Rebecca Welton’s office.
“You’ll be very proud of me, Keels, I just spoke to Roy in the hallway and neither of us yelled or insulted the other,” You announce as you walk through the open door leading into Rebecca’s office to see Keeley sitting in one of the chairs in front of her desk, her legs hooked over the armrest.
Keeley simply grins at you and you hear a small chuckle from the side of the room and see Rebecca Welton in all her glory fixing herself a cup of tea while she glances over her shoulder at you in clear amusement.
“Oh! Hi, Rebecca!” You exclaim as you try to figure out how to backtrack out of the personal information you just shared about yourself with the women signing your paychecks for this gig.
“Hello,” She greets you with a smile as she gestures for you to take a seat next to Keeley while she makes her way to sit behind her desk.
“Is that an impressive feat for you and Roy? Not arguing?” Rebecca asks.
“Um, yes,” You tell her. “This is the first time we’ve managed that.”
“Ah,” Rebecca replies with a nod.
“They matched on Bantr and their first date didn’t exactly go to plan,” Keeley adds.
“Keeley!” You hiss as you reach out to swat your friend and her oversharing.
“Oh, don’t worry about it, it happens to the best of us,” Rebecca reassures you. “I’m happy to share any number of my dating horror stories if it will make you feel better. But seeing as the most glaring one is plastered all over the tabloids every week I’m guessing you have some idea.”
“Rupert Manion’s a dick,” You reply without even thinking about it, causing Rebecca to choke on the sip of tea she’d just taken.
“That’s what I always tell her!” Keeley emphatically agreed.
“I can see why you two are friends now,” Rebecca replies with a small shake of her head.
“Should we look at the proofs before we end up tracking down a feminist rally and burning all our bras?” You offer as you pull your iPad out of your bag.
“Yes, plenty of time for all that after the meeting,” Rebecca replies, shooting you a look.
You grin back. Now you understand why Keeley likes Rebecca so much, you’re already bordering on obsessed with this woman.
You spend the next hour showing them your work and discussing how it can be used for the team’s marketing and communications before you work on coming up with a plan for what else they still need.
By the end of the meeting, you’ve made great headway on your plan and you’re also already ready for a drink.
“There’s a great little cocktail bar a few blocks down, should we toast to your amazing work and our success?” Rebecca asks as your trio walks down the hallway out to the car park.
“I’m always down for a drink or three,” You reply with a grin.
“Keels?” You ask as you turn to see if Keeley is down to come out too. You can’t imagine Keeley ever turning down the option to go out, but you never know. But when you glance at her she’s glancing back down the hallway at something.
“Yes! Totally!” Keeley replies after a moment. I just need to grab something from my office real quick, but I’ll meet you two there, kay?”
“Okay,” Rebecca replies. “Shall we?”
“Yeah, we’ll order your first glass,” You tell Keeley before heading out the door behind Rebecca.
Keeley turns on her heels once the door closes behind you and Rebecca and makes a beeline down the hallway to where Roy is in his office playing with lineups on a whiteboard.
“Roy,” Keeley calls softly as she pokes her head through the door.
“Keeley,” Roy greets her as he glances up at her briefly.
“I heard about what happened,” She tells him.
“Fucking hell,” Roy replies with a sigh. Trying not to let his irritation at anyone knowing about his vulnerability show. Even if that person is only Keeley. One of the nicest people he knows. But the sympathy or pity or whatever you want to call it in her voice is grating.
“And when you just walked past us you looked like a grumpy little kitty so I wanted to check on you,” Keeley says.
“I didn’t-” Roy hisses before he catches himself and takes a deep breath. “I don’t need your fucking pity, Keeley.”
“I know, but I’m also (Y/N)’s best friend, and I know how hard it is for her to be vulnerable. Frankly, I’m surprised that the two of you ending up on a date didn’t go worse. You two are some of the worst communicators I’ve ever met.”
“Thanks?”
“What I’m trying to say,” Keeley says as she tries to get herself back on track. “Is that you both suck at being vulnerable. And a blind date with someone you already have some tension with was bound to blow up in your faces. And that’s no one’s fault! But she really liked you, Roy, the version of you that she met on the app. And she likes Roy Kent too, as much as she would hate to admit it.”
“If you both want to, I think you two should try again,” She tells Roy.
“She told me earlier that she just wanted to be friends,” Roy replies as he shakes his head at Keeley. “She doesn’t like me. I’d have to be a fucking idiot not to understand that.”
“Because she thinks that’s what you want,” Keeley argues. “She thinks that you’re the one that doesn’t like her and you obviously think the opposite.”
“The two of you need to be honest about your feelings and figure this out,” She tells her.
“I’m going to bring her to Sam’s restaurant opening,” Keeley adds. “Talk to her.”
Roy watches Keeley turn to leave and stares at the now-closed door to the office as he tries to process everything she just told him.
Could you really like him back but have rejected him in some strange self-defense mechanism? Roy would hate the idea of someone doing that to him if I didn’t know in the back of his mind that he had done the same thing.
How is he supposed to set the lineup for the Manchester United game with all of this shit in his head?
“FUCK!” He hisses as he turns back to the board in front of him.
“Oh!” a small voice squeaks and Roy whips around to see Will standing at the door with a box of cleats. “I just- I’ll just um, I’m going to-”
“Spit it out!” Roy huffs. “I’ll just leave these here,” Will whispers as he sets the box down and essentially runs out of the room.
Now what was Roy supposed to do?

New Girl on the Pitch Ch. 1
Pairing: Rebecca Welton x f!reader
Summary: Your friend Keeley brings you in as the team's social media manager, Rebecca is impressed, in more ways than one.
Words: 2,689
Warnings: 18+ minors DNI
Tags: flirty, fluff, slow burn
Notes: This is my first fanfic so please be nice. I’m anticipating for this to be multiple chapters so bare with me while it kicks into gear. I'm open to any and all suggestions or comments!
You think to yourself that you would enjoy walking through Richmond, such a pretty, quaint town, if it wasn't so bitter cold. Today the cold isn't what's on your mind, your friend Keeley asked you to stop by and give her a hand with the teams social media now that she's helping with their PR. The wind whips at the hem of your jacket as you make your way to AFC Richmond, nervous for your first day, unsure of what you're about to walk into.
You don't know much about soccer, growing up in the US you were mostly exposed to football when your dad and uncles got together to watch their favorite teams play; other than that, you were never a raging sports fan. You've heard of the new AFC Richmond coach, Ted Lasso though, and you relax a little knowing you won't be the only American there.
Around the bend you see the big double doors at the entrance of the stadium and a friendly, familiar face. Keeley is standing there, waving and calling you over.
"y/n!! You made it! Oh I'm so excited you're gonna love this, follow me!"
She grabs your arm and pulls you into the building, guiding you through the halls. You try to take in as much of your surroundings as you can whilst being dragged along.
"Woah wait slow down Keeley!" as you pull back from her grasp "I want to see all of this"
You walk up to the trophy cases, looking at decades of hard work stuck behind a thin sheet of glass.
"wow, they must be really good, look at all of these trophies"
"they've played like shit the last few seasons" Keeley says matter-of-factly.
You're a bit surprised that she knows that since you've never pegged her to be a sports fan, but then remember she's dating the teams star player, Jamie Tartt.
"Jamie's been bitching about how poorly they've played and how he's the best thing that's ever happened to Richmond"
You roll your eyes "of course he did" as you side-eye your friend. You don't know why she wastes her time on someone like Jamie, an immature, entitled jock.
"Come on we have to go!"
Keeley grabs your arm and pulls you through the halls once more.
“Where are we going?!”
“To meet everyone!”
“Who’s everyone?!”
"So there's Coach Lasso, he’s the one from the US too! There’s Coach Beard-"
"Coach Beard? Is his name Beard or does he have a really cool beard so that's what everyone calls him?"
Keeley slows her pace down, a look of uncertainty comes across her face
"I mean he does have a beard, but I don't know if that's actually his name or not"
You both laugh and keep moving
"Then there's Nate, he's the kitman"
"The what man?"
"The kitman, he gives the boys their water bottles, sets out the cones during training, cleans up the locker room"
"So a glorified waterboy?"
"pretty much, next there's Higgins, he's the director of communications and Rebecca's assistant"
"Who's Rebec-"
Keeley cuts you off with a sharp stop in front of an office door and knocks as she walks in
"Rebecca, this is y/n! The one I told you about that's gonna help out with social media!"
Keeley pulls you into the office, your eyes dart around the room, landing on a desk in the middle. You look up and your eyes are met by beautiful pair of piercing green eyes, you feel like your breath was stolen from you for a moment. Keeley is talking but you don't hear her, you're too distracted by the woman in front of you.
Her blond hair, plump lips, gorgeous yet intense green eyes, this woman is beautiful. She slams her laptop shut and you snap out of it, you look over at Keeley who's still introducing you.
"y/n this is Rebecca! She's the owner of AFC Richmond"
You freeze and your eyes dart between your friend and Rebecca while your thoughts rush through your brain. You could kill her for not giving you a heads up.
"Oh wow, uh, hi, my name is y/n" you blurt out. Between the shock of just bursting into the owners office and the shock of how beautiful this woman is, you can barely talk.
She stands up from her chair and you're taken back by how tall she is. You look her up and down, taking note of her immaculate curves, her huge chest, her toned arms that would give Michelle Obama a run for her money. She looks like a beautiful, blond Amazonian woman. She towers over you, you have to bend you neck just to maintain eye contact.
"Yes, I assume your name hasn't changed since Keeley introduced you two seconds ago" she says and reaches out her hand. You can't tell if she's joking or not, but you can immediately tell that this woman doesn't fuck around. She doesn’t seem to take to Keeley’s bubbly personality like most people. You’ve always witnessed people softening up and relaxing a little while around Keeley, but not Rebecca.
As she leans in you get a whiff of her perfume, a gorgeous, light yet bold scent that smells like something only a woman of maturity would wear, it’s almost intoxicating. You sheepishly reach out your hand and meet hers. You're again shocked, this time at how firm Rebecca’s handshake is, you also take note on how soft her skin is. Her hand warms yours, since they’re still cold from being outside.
"Sorry if my hands are cold" you say as you pull your hand away and rub your hands together, trying to warm them up. The warmth from her hand keeps yours warm for an extra second and you feel a lingering comfort.
You stand there awkwardly for a second and look over at Keeley hoping she would break the sudden awkward silence.
Rebecca goes to speak when you hear another knock at the door. You turn around to see who you can only assume is Coach Lasso, with a small pink box in his hand.
“Good mornin’ boss! It’s Biscuits with the Boss time!” He says cheerfully, almost too cheerfully for this early in the morning. “Well who’s this here?” As he stops in his tracks in front of you.
Keeley excitedly says “Ted, this is y/n, she’s going to be helping me out with the teams social media!”
“It’s great to meet you y/n! We can use all the help we can get, I know nothin’ ‘bout the Facespace and tweeter or whatever it is you kids use now a days.”
He sticks his hand out and you go to shake his hand.
“It’s an honor to meet you coach Lasso-”
“WAIT you’re American?!” He seems almost too excited “Well wouldya look at that, if we start addin’ too many more Americans to the team these people are gonna think we’re tryin’ to take this country over, ain’t that right boss? And please, call me Ted.”
You chuckle at his joke “sounds good, it’s great to meet you Ted.”
The tension you felt earlier begins to subside as you shake his hand, you’re surprised at how comforting it feels to be around someone from the US, you feel like it’s been forever since you’ve been home.
“Well boss I got your favorite!” Ted says walking towards the desk.
You turn around and notice Rebecca’s eyes dart quickly towards Ted, “was she looking at me?” You think to yourself.
Ted hands her the box and she smiles back at him. You’re a little surprised given how unemotional she seemed a few seconds ago, but you can’t help but smile a little while looking at her. You’ve never seen someone’s smile light up the room like that, you begin to wonder how it’s possible for someone to look so flawless.
Rebecca seems to forget you and Keeley are in the room, she opens the box with an anticipation and excitement you were not expecting, it almost seems uncharacteristic for her; and picks up a biscuit and brings it to her lips. “I wish I was that biscuit” you think to yourself, then realize that that’s probably one of the craziest and dumbest things you’ve ever thought.
“Oh fuck me” Rebecca moans “Ted please tell me where you get these from, I must know”
Your body tingles at the sound of her moan, you feel yourself starting to get wet as a pulse shoots through your body down into your core. Now you really wish you were that biscuit.
“Well I’ve told you once boss, if I told you that we wouldn’t be able to have Biscuits with the Boss every morning!”
Rebecca seems irritated by his response as any lasting signs of anticipation and excitement she had just seconds before vanishes. Ted either doesn’t realize it, or doesn’t care. Either way, if she looked at you like that, you’d want to crawl under a rock and hide.
She glances over at you and Keeley and immediately put the box down, adjusts her posture and fixes her shirt collar. You think you see a flash of embarrassment cross her face, as if she forgot you both were there for a moment.
“Of course.” She says flatly. “Very well then, Ted I’m very busy this morning so I must get back to work.”
“Of course ya are! I’ll get outta your hair then.” Ted turns to leave and stops in front of you. “It was great to meet ya y/n, Keeley why don’t ya bring her down into our office later for a little meet and greet, what’d ya think about that?”
“That was going to be our next stop!” Keeley says excitedly
“Well great, see ya both soon then!” Ted says as he walks away
You turn back around and notice Rebecca had been looking straight at you while your back was turned to her, there’s no doubt this time. Her eyes quickly meet yours and you see the corner of her mouth curve into a slight smirk. You feel your cheeks get red and you look away. Usually you can read people really well, but for some reason, you cannot for the life of you figure out Rebecca.
“Well like I said I’m very busy and must get back to work” Rebecca sits back down in her chair, crossing one of her toned, long legs over the other.
“Come on let me finish giving you the tour! We’ll see you later Rebecca!” Keeley spins on her heels and turns to leave.
“It was nice meeting you” you say to Rebecca
“You as well. Welcome to AFC, y/n” she gives you a smirk and reopens her laptop turning her attention to the screen, as if you had already left the room.
Your heart skips a beat when you hear her say your name. You spin around and follow Keeley, lost in your own thoughts as Keeley talks about AFC. You try to pay attention but your thoughts are swirling. “She had to be checking me out, right?” “What was that smirk? Is she into me?” “How could someone like her even notice someone like me?” “She’s the fucking owner!! There’s no way she was checking me out”
As your thoughts continue to spiral Keeley stops and snaps her fingers in your face to get your attention
“Hello? Is anyone home? Have you even been listening to me?!”
“What? No of course I was listening?”
“Okay then what was the last thing I said?”
You panic a little, you definitely were not paying attention, but as soon as you confirm that, Keeley is going to haunt you about what you were thinking of and you can not tell her about the thoughts you just had about the owner! Your new boss!
“Uh, ‘okay, what was the last thing I said?’” You quickly reply
“Oh you’re a cheeky bitch aren’t ya? Where did you just go?!”
“I, uh, nowhere, I was just a little overwhelmed back there, that’s all. I had no idea she was gonna be the owner! A heads up would have been nice” as you playfully nudge her.
“Oh Rebecca is great!! As soon as I decided to not be afraid of her we’ve gotten along so well”
“What do you mean you decided to not be afraid of her?” You’re as equally surprised as you are confused at what Keeley said, since she isn’t often intimidated by others; but you also understand because Rebecca is as intimidating as she is beautiful.
“She’s fucking terrifying! But I decided to not be scared of her and it’s been great! She even showed me a photo a paparazzi took of her sunbathing naked”
Another pulse shoots straight down, she showed Keeley a naked picture of herself?! Who is this woman?!
“That woman’s tits are incredible! And they’re real! Can you believe that?!”
A third pulse shoots down, you feel your panties getting more wet by the minute
“What??” You try to mask the tone of surprise with confusion
“Oh come on don’t tell me you didn’t look at her tits! I mean they take up half of her chest it’s hard not to look at them”
“Uh, I mean, yeah I guess” you stutter. Keeley raises an eyebrow at you, she knows you usually aren’t lost for words like this. "I don't know dude she was fucking terrifying and she only spoke like five words!"
"Oh yeah she's absolutely terrifying,"
Phew, good save you think to yourself
"but once you get past that I think she's great! I mean, I haven't gotten too far past it just yet, but I like her!"
"If you say so! Come on show me the rest of this place!"
You divert the conversation to something else while two of you walk off towards the locker room and the coaches offices. If you two keeps talking about Rebecca, Keeley is gonna know something is up. "Well this was certainly not how I expected my first day to go, no less the first hour of my first day" you think to yourself.
You can't help but think of Rebecca for the rest of the day, both a little terrified but secretly hoping you'd see her again. You meet the team and everyone else. All of the players are really nice, except for Roy, you're convinced he only communicates in "fucks" and grunts. Sam was so sweet and then there was Jamie, who you've met before, and you still don't like him.
The day finishes just as quickly as it had started, you and Keeley walk out and see Rebecca opening the backseat door to her car. "Damn, she has a driver? She must be rich, rich" you think to yourself.
"Bye Rebecca!" Keeley shouts. Rebecca gives a half wave and climbs into the car. You make eye contact with her as she gets into the car, you're able to keep your eyes on hers without looking away this time and you swear she gives you a smirk as she closes the door. The tinted windows of the car made it hard to see, but you could almost swear that she was watching you as her driver pulled away.
Jamie walks over and puts his arm around Keeley "Come on babes, I need a foot rub" you roll your eyes at him and turn to Keeley
"Thanks for everything Keels, I had a great first day"
You two give each other a quick hug and part ways. You make your way back to your flat, not even noticing that it's colder out than it was this morning. Rebecca has been on your mind all day, tonight probably won't be much different. After a quick shower and some dinner, you crawl into bed but can't fall asleep. Your thoughts are swirling, you're not sure if you're just imagining things since you've been single for a few months now, or if Rebecca was really checking you out. You set your alarm for tomorrow and roll over hoping you'll doze off at a reasonable hour.
~ Chapter 2 will be posted soon! ~

ATW Ch.2 Snippet
The swirling patterns decorating his ceiling were starting to blur into one, and Richard couldn't be sure if wasn't to do with the rum he'd been consuming since last night. A quick call into work to tell them he wasn't coming in today, then wallowing. Wallowing until he ceased to be; that was the hope.
The call from Pauline had spiralled him, leaving him a drunken mess sprawled across his sofa. He'd thought about returning her call countless times over the last few hours, but he was afraid. What if he called and Charlie answered? Worse, Stephen? He couldn't cope with that, not right now. If he heard Stephen's voice in the place he'd once thought was his home, it would tear him apart completely.
Stephen Meeks had always been his academic competition and a good friend. Cameron's friend. Why had he done this? Why did he have to choose Charlie of all people? Well, Richard understood that part; he'd have picked Dalton every time; but, Charlie hadn't been Stephen's to take. As it turned out, their roles were suddenly reversed and Cameron hated it. Regardless of the rough time the other two men were going through, at least they had each other. Richard had been left with nothing, as nothing. He was alone, just like he had been at Welton before Neil had found him, and he couldn't cope being back here again.
A heart-wrenching sob escaped him and he rolled onto his front, burying his head into a pillow as he cried. He'd rather die than deal with this; a thought that was becoming unsettlingly familiar to him.
