So about a month ago I did a ceramic class. One of the things I made was a vase and decided to decorate it with cave paintings.

Before it had its glaze firing.

And after.

Inspired by that gorgeous Chauvet bear cave painting and also Djungelskog

painted some of this with my fingers.

And when I was hanged between earth and heaven they lifted up their heads to see me. And they were exalted, for their heads had never before been lifted.

Personal piece :) The compression may be hiding this, but written on the underside of the antelope's skin is "un jour je serai de retour près de toi" ('one day I will return to your side'), which is something I have been turning over in my brain a lot as of late.

I just realized that apparently I never shared this series here on Tumblr??  

I call it Living Paintings, as they are recreations of extinct animals that some artists actually saw and painted from memory, a long time ago.
