I wake up from 12 hours of sleep (thanks, going-on-9-day stomach bug, really🙄) to see that baby boy is a pick to be the next James Bond.
Tumblr media
Here I had it backwards in thinking that Daniel Craig should play Arthur in flashbacks with Rachel Weisz playing Catherine and they clearly don't know that he's a man of infinite hobbies ... except going out in public.

I didn’t know what to add at the end
Since neither Catherine nor Arthur appear in the movie I had to improvise
(Catherine - Jacqueline Bisset)
(Arthur - James Bond / GoldenEye 1995)
(+ Mary - Spencer 2021) (I hate the king what is he doing there)

Backyard of the Austin farmhouse
Into the Mystic
okay gonna be honest here. i have no idea what happened here. like, i really adore what i wrote, but i have NO EARTHLY IDEA where it came from or if it's even at all close to what you were aiming for. lots of catherine/arthur feels ahead and like, a little magical realism? i guess? anyway here's wonderwall...

10:05pm, texas farmhouse
It’s odd, really, that an ocean and half a continent away from their shared home, that Arthur’s spirit feels so strong here. Here, in Henry and Alex’s backyard, deep in the heart of Texas.
The boys—they’re still boys, no matter that they’re closer to forty than thirty—are inside, cleaning dishes, rinsing out bottles. Catherine can see them through the window above the sink, laughing and chatting easily before Alex flicks water in her son’s face. The affronted look on Henry’s face sends her right down memory lane, a slideshow of the dozens of times she and Arthur did the same thing playing in her mind.
It took a while, a shove from Bea, and a lot of therapy, but the memories no longer hurt her, no longer make her feel like her soul is being ripped away every time she thinks about her husband. Now, after everything, she can let the memories pass through like a draft through windchimes; she might get knocked around, but what sweet melodies they make.
A cool breeze makes Catherine pull the quilt Alex draped over her earlier closer around her shoulders and she looks out over the dark backyard. The only light is from the stars, the crescent moon, the dying embers, and the occasional lightning bug. Catherine inhales deeply, breathing in the smell of the earth, of burning wood, of the lingering scent of the beer that Alex knocked off the picnic table earlier. The sound of crickets chirping is accompanied by grass rustling in the breeze and the quiet pops of the fire. It’s peaceful here, in this place where there’s more sky than anything else—a sky big enough for dreams and memories alike.
Arthur would have loved it here. He would have been first in line to learn how to work the grill from Alex. He would have laughed easily at their son’s carefree antics. He would have been their biggest supporter in buying this place. Catherine knows that their siblings were confused, Alex’s parents were a little more understanding, but Arthur— Arthur would have seen the house for what it is: a sanctuary, a place to recharge, a place where they can truly be themselves, stripped of the pressures of both royalty and politics.
She knows that they chose Texas for Alex, but the feel of the place has more than a little to do with Henry; Catherine finds echoes of the cottage in Wales around every corner. The farmhouse is a monument to the love they have for each other and to their families. The house is so full of affection and care that one could almost taste them, almost trip over them on the way to the kettle.
Another breeze sweeps through the yard and Catherine shivers, but not from the chill this time. She can feel something—someone—here with her now. She gets a whiff of Arthur’s cologne, a faint trace of pine and leather that always made her feel safe. She holds her breath, and she can faintly hear Arthur’s laugh, bright and full, over the sound of her heartbeat. Impossibly, she feels the weight of an arm across her shoulders, tucking her close into the faded imprint of a warm chest.
The back door opens and the boys’ chatter spills out along with the kitchen light. Their presence breaks the spell the night was weaving around her, but between more jokes and reminiscing, between dessert and a cup of decaf, Catherine feels ghostly fingers slip between her own, and hold tight.

RWRB Festive Fan Fest
Cozy
“Well, this is cozy,” Catherine said, settling next to Arthur on the couch.
“Is that spelled with a z or s?” he teased.
“S, Daddy!” little Henry piped up, aghast. “Don't you know that?”
“Of course. Silly me,” Arthur answered him, unable to keep the smile off of his face. He may only be six, but his fellow stargazer would be a writer someday. He’s sure of it.
“Does it matter?” Bea asked.
“Well, it depends,” Arthur admitted. “But in this household, no.”
“What's important is that we enjoy this time with those we love.”
“I know that one! L-O-V-E!”

Ngl, despite my apprehension (i.e. I'm old and cynical), I'm interested to see what they do with the Red, White & Royal Blue sequel partly since I know in the book bonus chapter, Henry gives up his title - I haven't actually read it so idk if he's actually described as 'abdicating' or fandom just decided to use that term (which is not exactly correct).
But the book lacks a lot of accuracy around the British Royal family where as the movie put in a bit more effort (e.g. Henry's Mum being Duchess of Edinburgh not Princess of Wales) and since in the United Kingdom, Henry can't step out of the line of succession without an Act of Parliament which isn't an insignificant thing, I wonder if the movie will focus on that or if it will gloss over it or just go in a brand new direction entirely for a new audience who aren't familiar with the book.
Personally, I hope for the latter partially because the parallels to certain real life royals would get distracting but mostly because I'd love to see Henry use the position he once felt suffocated by to advocate for and empower others.
Though being honest, I'm mostly just hoping they don't fall into the romance sequel trope of breaking them up to get them back together again.
To be clear though, in real life I think the entire monarchy should be abolished - but in this gay little movie world I have other thoughts :)

I feel like we're almost all in agreement that Jude Law would make a perfect Arthur Fox, and let's pray we get that in the sequel in a flashback or something (seriously Thomas and Jude look remarkably alike)

But I don't really see that much discussion or agreement on who would make a good Catherine? So I'm curious about yall's opinions
So far I've seen Amy Adams and Olivia Colman?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I think I'm kind of agreeing on Amy Adams? Especially with Ellie
Also I'm realizing that with Catherine it's not just the children, they also need to find someone who can be Stephen Fry's daughter, so that's four people's likeness to consider

Please Don’t Hate Me
I need to start by stating that I really liked the Red, White, and Royal Blue movie. The cast and crew were amazing and this was a sorely necessary movie in the queer community as far as representation goes. I am also really bad at separating a movie from its source material. So this is just an opinion on some representation, both feminine and queer, that I wish had been in the movie.
First, with the female representation. Most obviously, the fact that June was written out, Princess Catherine was absent, and Queen Mary was switched to King James III.
Even while Alex is the main character, June is the heart of the Claremont-Diaz family. Alex and Ellen are too wrapped up in caring for the nation that they can sometimes forget that they need looking after themselves.
Combine this with keeping Ellen married to Oscar (she and Oscar are too similar, but Leo took care of her) and taking away some of her more nurturing characteristics (good thing bad thing), Alex’s family seems less supportive in the movie than the book.
This is similar to the problem I have with removing Princess Catherine. Henry has Bea’s support, but with the watered down Bea, that’s almost an empty corner. Princess Catherine is what forces the Queen to support Henry and Alex, and that is the first time Henry has felt a parent’s love since his father died. It’s just so important to his story, but I can understand why it was cut.
But why did they have to water Bea down so much? I don’t need the Powder Princess scandal, but if Bea is Henrys only support, show that she is strong enough to back him for real. Throw her in a leather jacket, send her out to a party with the group, and show an electric guitar in the corner of the music room. It didn’t have to be anything big, but give her back her fire!
Then there’s Queen Mary, which I don’t really mind the switch since it gave us Stephen Fry as King James and the prime minister was a woman. I just felt like it lost some of the symbolism of the female heads of the nations and their opposite viewpoints on FirstPrince and tradition.
Lastly, there’s Nora. I liked her, I really did, but I wish they had mentioned that she went to MIT, even just Alex calling her MIT like he does in the book. There are places of higher learning, particularly in STEM, that kept women out for far too long. It would have been a great boost to show a woman being a graduate of the most well known technical institute in the country.
The only woman I was completely satisfied with was Zahra, they kept her as tough as nails!
Before I start on queer representation, remember that I do realize how important this movie is as a mainstream representation of queer love. However:
By taking out June, they took away the June/Nora/Pez relationship. I personally think that June and Nora were in a relationship and Pez just joined in while he’s in town. But still, a polyamorous secondary relationship in a rom com would have been nice.
That also takes away Nora’s bisexuality, which is just bi erasure! (And I know Alex says he’s bi, but that scene when Zahra calls him and Henry homosexuals bothers me! It erases Alex’s bisexuality!)
Rafael Luna was a huge impact on Alex, and showing an openly gay senator would have been amazing.
I am glad that, since they only kept one secret service agent, that they kept Amy. However, I do miss Cash and his pansexual jean jacket!
Moving on to Amy, I don’t mind that they didn’t mention that she is trans, especially since she is played by a trans actress and that was only brought up in Alex’s thoughts in the book. I do wish she had brought up her wife. There was such a good window of opportunity when she and Alex are talking about her dog. “You know my wife and I named our dog Jonathan.”
The addition of Miguel Ramos brings in the “gays are evil and vindictive” stereotype. Especially considering he was the only other openly queer person in the movie
On a lighter, headcanon note, I see Bea as at least ace, if not aroace, which sucks that it wasn’t included, but it makes sense since it’s not canon. Also, Princess Catherine cuffs her jeans, so she’s obviously bi lol
Again, the book is perfection, and I love the movie in its own right too. These are just some things that were missed or added that I wish changed in the movie!

Ficlet Friday
The Rules: Copy the following prompts or make your own, post what fandoms you write for & your followers can request one of the prompts with a ship, character or fandom for a ficlet. Have fun! This week's prompts are dialogue:
‘Shut the front door, they said what?' ‘You sweet little turnip.' ‘Would you still love me if I was a blob fish?' ‘Me? Apologise? I think you have me confused for someone else...' ‘Do be a dear, and shut up.' ‘If you loved me, you'd let me have the last one.' ‘Watching me sleep is not cute, it's creepy you weirdo.'
Thank you to @suseagull04 for the prompts!
Ima RWRB state of mind! ❤️💙🇺🇸🏳️‍🌈🇬🇧
'Do be a dear, and shut up.' Catherine says to Phillip as she walks into the room gracefully. Alex can see her grace in Bea and Henry. She’s in blue jeans and a knit crew neck sweater, it’s rainbow to Alex’s total joy.
“We didn’t raise you to be a homophonic bellend.” Catherine says and moves to Philip. She puts her arms on his shoulders. “You should apologize to your brother, darling.” She kisses the top of his head and sits next to him. Philip’s face goes from anger to relenting understanding. “I’m sorry, Henry. People doubted Mazzy and I too when we were younger.” Phillip relents, “I still think you’re full young to be making such permanent decisions, but it’s your decision.”
“We all must learn and grow.” Henry says and smiles at Alex sweetly. Alex shares his secret smile.

one of the reasons i want the deleted scenes so much is not necessarily for more firstprince content (although it's a huge bonus), it's bc these are the scenes surrounded by their friends and family. people they love and who love them and have supported them no matter what. especially pez and nora who book canonically knew how alex and henry felt about each other way before they did themselves. they also formed their own friendship(s) within the group which was so beautiful to read in the book. so to be able to see them all together, finally out and happy is so so important and i hope we are able to See this at some point
