Random Grey's Anatomy Opinions (Part Five)

Catherine's cancer coming back is an arc that has happened at least 4 times, so the emotional impact is just non-existent at this point.

Along with the last opinion, Webber needs to either die or finally retire because there's just no emotional weight to his issues anymore.

Paralleling Schmitt as chief resident to Bailey was so interesting, and I think it would've been fun to lean into that dynamic more.

Lucas and Simone are actually really wholesome, and I hope they end up together.

Grey's Anatomy is very sex-positive, which is fine (I could do without the intimate scene pretty much every episode, but this is pretty much a soap opera, so), but it's got a huge problem with people who don't really want romance or are virgins (I'm pretty sure if an ace-spec or aro-spec character walked into that hospital, the entire cast would be flabbergasted).

Yes, the show fell off after Cristina left (she was one of the best characters and was the one who made the show iconic), but the later seasons do have some really awesome storylines and characters.

Jules has two hands for a reason, and they're for holding the hands of her boyfriend and her girlfriend (I love her relationships with Blue AND Mika, okay).

The fact that so many seasons went by without giving Helm a real love interest before Mika was messed up because she deserved some of that love she desired (and she's hot as hell).

I understand that Nick is primarily Meredith's love interest, but I thought it was a shame that they moved Nick to Boston for her when he was a really great Residency Director and the writers developed a interesting mentor-mentee relationship with Lucas.

As shitty as Owen was, Burke was not much better, and Cristina deserved a love interest who was actually good to her (my vote was Teddy).

Grey's making Owen Hunt the voice of reason is tripping me out

I remember a time when Catherine's cancer devastated me. Now I'm rooting for that tumor.

I also remember a time when I wanted Owen dead and gone, but here he is now..a decent-ish dude who supports his trans-child and stands up for his wife.

It really upsets me the way people have been reacting to Meredith trying to cure Alzheimer's. She isn't just doing it for fame, or even to help the world, she is fighting for her life. She is fighting to save herself from the horrible fate she lost her mother to. She is fighting to protect Bailey and Ellis and Maggie. She is trying to save her family.

Amelia pushed back saying it would erase Derrick's work, but I think he'd care more about his wife and children not being ravenged by a terrible disease than his legacy.

Nick said she was choosing work over him, but she is fighting for their future. Meredith even said it, that she will love him for as long as she can rember him. If she succeeds that might be a lot longer than if she doesn't.

And Catherine, has she thought about what it would be like to watch Richard lose Maggie and/or Meredith to the same disease that took the last two women he loved? How could she look him in the eye knowing there was a chance to save the women he sees as his daughters but she squashed it?

Meredith is so scared, and I know she is because I am too. If I had any chance to find any sort of treatment for the dementia that curses my family history I would fight tooth and nail for it.

Grey's 21x03

Okay so Mika might not die after all. Her sister really could though, so at least there's drama on the horizon & her final storyline could still get memorable (which I believe both character and actress deserve). I do believe her reaction to the news was a bit weird (in what world don't we just say: hey, I just got devastating news, can I have a minute?!). It's a clear Grey's "trick" though, they love to have us guessing, I just never buy it. I'm also not sure about the ending. I get that she needs a friend, but Jules clearly could be both if getting the chance. And though this was, and should be, about Mika, Jules non-verbal reaction was kinda 💔.

Though the promo didn't get me that excited (it was basically all about Catherine's case), I have to admit the ep itself was quite entertaining. I enjoyed the lighter moments, like the OR scene with the missing sponge, Bailey getting her job back and Sydney's stupid puns. I also liked Sydney confronting Ben about his constant switching. (His reaction was off though, reacting this defensive. While his counter arguments were all true in themselves, they had nothing to do with this simple fact. So making Sydney change her mind because of this felt like (more) poor writing to me.)

More good versus bad in the Webber arc. He actually surprised me with his reaction after finding out ("take care of her" then letting it be), but then went all irrational again when shouting at Mer. Come on, he's a doctor, he knows the rules!

Amelia getting to be the hero is always fun. Though I'm not a fan of all of them always supposed to be worldclass surgeons blabla, I do like to see her getting some credits.

Random Grey's Anatomy Opinions (Part Three)

Even without the issue of them being step-siblings, Jackson and Maggie's romance was really awful because they were both just complete dicks to each other during the relationship and long after it ended.

I was disappointed when Link and Amelia broke up because they were really wholesome and adorable, but ultimately, I found it rewarding because Amelia's best relationship was with Kai.

Meredith naming her third kid Ellis was a stupid writing decision because while her mother may have been a complicated woman who had mental health issues, she was also the woman who constantly broke down Meredith and was so verbally and emotionally abusive to her.

Amelia's friendship with Richard was a really interesting one because they were both mentors to each other at various points.

Derek was often overly critical of people, but he was 100% right to be angry at Meredith for deliberately tampering with the clinical trial and endangering Zola's adoption.

The Post-It Note wedding was fun and I wish the show had done more unique wedding things with their other couples (I know they did the Bar wedding and the ferry boat wedding, but I mean something more unique than locations).

The Webber Method was always a bad idea, and Bailey was the only one who recognized it, showcasing how she was a good chief (despite what some fans may say).

Cristina not getting a Catherine Fox award, but Meredith getting one is still irritating to me because she was the best doctor out of her entire class.

Despite being the oldest characters, Richard and Catherine were oftentimes the most immature characters.

I liked Schmitt a decent amount, but his relationship with Nico was just not that compelling because they had drama after drama with very, very, very brief moments of happiness.
