UN chief arrives in Somalia amid worsening drought
Mogadishu, Somalia (The Times Groupe) – UN chief Antonio Guterres arrived in Mogadishu on Tuesday for an official visit to the Horn of Africa country, which is suffering from the worst drought in decades.
At Adan Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was welcomed by senior Somali government officials, including Foreign Minister Abshir Omar Jama Huruse.
In Somalia, Guterres met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and discussed humanitarian challenges and the war on terrorism.
The Somali presidential palace said Mohamud thanked the UN chief for his “historic and solidarity visit to Somalia.”
His visit comes as Somalia is witnessing one of the worst and longest droughts in recent history.
In Somalia, 6.5 million people are expected to suffer from food insecurity between this month and June, with 223,000 facing “catastrophic hunger,” according to the UN.
The UN estimates that 43,000 people died because of the drought in 2022 – half of them children.
Over 1.5 million people have been displaced by the current drought.

Every fucking westerner, and easterner, and both southerners and northeners too, on this god forsaken website, who said anything at all about how the world manages to discern politics from art for Ukraine but not other nations or ethnicities, based on, idk, Russians being banned from Eurovision which is surely because Ukrainians are white, and not, you know, the full-scale invasion that happened in the ninth year of Russian war against Ukraine, the ninth year of my hometown being occupied, and is still ongoing, and is a real fucking genocide on the scale unseen in Europe since WWII or Serbia, owes me, personally, to donate to a charity of their choosing:
Donate to Come Back Alive Foundation (life-saving defense)
Donate to Leleka Foundation (life-saving medical supplies)
(do not, under any circumstances, donate to Red Cross)
#like. if everytime i got a nickel when i heard that not all russians in the context of letting russians get money and publicity -#not just after the invasion. but because of the invasion. the contests they win for depicting our trauma#or navalny documentary#or the fucking atomic hearts game#bro#tell me what your country is and i will tell you how it helps russians to circumvent sanctions#so like. shut the fuck up#the oscars the miss universe and so on so forth#we're too political for them too. get this.#so the issue is not that they make an exception for us - in a very limited way#it's that art is not political or business is not political is bs#it's that what is acceptable politics for them#believe me ukrainians used this privelege of being acceptable politics for only a short time. a bit too late. and one of the main reason#besides the scale#is that this war is fucking over everyone and not just ukrainians#tankies love to blablabla nato usa proxy war#but do i have to remind you that the world was under a threat of global hunger last year? still under a threat of nuclear catastrophe?#and standing by doing nothing in the face of russia wetly spitting on internationally recognized borders is opening up themselves to#the same fucking thing#which is the only reason anybody gave a shit#and the same reason everyone was holding their breaths when nancy pelosi was expected to visit taiwan

In case someone just read about all the horrible things happening to refugees in the Mediterranean and wants to donate, I'll put a link to sea watch at the end of this post. If you don't know what sea watch is, here's the "About Us" from their website:
"At the end of 2014, Sea-Watch grew out of an initiative of volunteers who could not stand on the sidelines witnessing people dying in the Mediterranean Sea any longer.
The European Union is continuing to isolate itself from people on the move, whether by means of border security installations worth billions or agreements on readmission agreements with third countries such as Turkey, which are questionable and controversial under international law. As a result of this isolation, thousands of people drown every year trying to reach a safe harbour in the EU, many of them within sight of our shores and beaches.
That is why we have dedicated ourselves to sea rescue. No one deserves to die at the external borders of the European Union, seeking a safe and more humane life.
We are trying to fill the gap of an institutionalised, comprehensive sea rescue with a clear mandate, such as Mare Nostrum, which saved more than 130,000 people but was not taken over by the EU and therefore ended, as long as possible and within the realms of our possibilities. We consider this to be our humanitarian duty. However, the fact that private organisations take over sea rescue in the Mediterranean instead of states cannot and should not become a permanent state! We call for an international, institutionalised sea rescue with a clear mandate and, in the long term, above all legal and secure entry routes for those seeking protection in the sense of a #SafePassage.
Since the beginning of 2015, our constantly growing organisation, which consists mainly of dedicated volunteers from all over Europe, has been working on the project organisation and realisation of Sea-Watch. We finance ourselves exclusively through donations.
We try to save as many people as possible from death by drowning. Sea-Watch has so far been involved in the rescue of well over 45,000 people." (x)
you can even just buy a hoodie or a shirt or something from them and still support their mission, and honestly who wouldn't want this as a shirt/hoodie:
i hope oceangate gets sued to hell for violating basic safety principles in pursuit of profit, i hope a teenager doesn’t die a horrible death, and i hope the world pays much more attention to the fact that 500 migrants died that same horrible death last week in a completely preventable sinking that was engineered by bureaucratic racism and cruelty. where were their millions of dollars and manpower hours in rescue efforts?
#sea watch#oceangate#frontex#idk like obviously i don't wish anyone death especially not in such a horrible way by drowning/running out of oxygen underwater#but literally last week there was a huge catastrophe in the mediteranean and this week there's the thing with the submarine#and the VAST DIFFERENCE#in how much and HOW the news report about those two things#just makes me so fucking sad because YOU KNOW why they report so differently#because white people somehow think they can relate more to the 3 people paying a shitload of money to play underwater tourists#than to the THOUSANDS of people who leave everything and risk everything just for the chance to live a better life and support their family#or flee conflict or hunger or any kind of situation#and it's just so fucking sad

A cry for help from Gaza
My name is Salem, I am 26 years old. I am married to Hadeel, she is 25 years old, and we have two beautiful children: Laila (5 years old) and Bakr (five months old). We live in the northern part of Gaza.
Laila and Bakr are my heartbeat, the light of my life, and my everything.
The horrific story of the recent war in Gaza
Since the beginning of the last war in Gaza, our home has been completely destroyed, forcing us to be displaced. We had to move more than 10 times to find safety. During this harrowing journey, we faced extreme hunger and malnutrition that almost claimed the lives of me and my children. In addition, we have been exposed to many serious infectious diseases and epidemics.
Before: This is our homeland, our dream, and our promising future.
Unbearable hardships
Every day I have to travel long distances just to get water, and stand in lines for hours to get food. My children's mental health deteriorated due to the war, their education was interrupted, and they suffered from catastrophic hunger that almost claimed their lives.
After: This is our house, built with our sweat and effort, and it was completely destroyed.
The right to a peaceful life
My children deserve to live a peaceful life free of fear and anxiety. I dream of your help to support my family and escape this genocide. Your help means the world to me and my children.
The cost of arranging travel for an adult outside Gaza currently varies
Between $5,000 and $7,000, and $2,500 for each child, in addition to a cost of living of $500 per month.
How can you help?
Your donations can be a beacon of hope for us. Every dollar can help save my children's lives and give them a chance to live in peace. Your prayers for us to overcome this ordeal and lift the siege are greatly needed
Laila: My beloved, the closest to my heart, and my little one.
Bakr: My child who came during this horrific war.
Donate now and help us get to safety
May God reward you greatly for your generosity.
Background on the Gaza war
The war in Gaza has left hundreds of thousands of victims, destroyed infrastructure, and left many homeless. The humanitarian situation in the region has reached critical levels, with severe shortages of basic necessities such as food, water and health care. Children are the most affected, as they have lost their sense of security, education and normal life.
Your support is our hope
Your donation is the light that can guide us towards a better future. Don't miss the chance to be part of a story that saves a family suffering from unimaginable hardships.
Donate now and make hope possible
Thank you for your support and kindness.
My gratitude
Salem and family

Gaza residents eat once a day amid humanitarian aid crisis
Humanitarian crisis worsened in central and northern Gaza after Israel had resumed its offensive against Hamas in early October, according to AP News.
However, humanitarian experts say almost the entire population of Gaza is suffering from starvation. On Thursday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of using “starvation as a method of warfare.”
Hundreds of thousands of people are taking refuge in the city of Deir al-Balah. Local bakeries closed for five days this week, with the price of a bag of bread rising above $13 by Wednesday as bread and flour disappeared from shelves until more supplies arrived.
The UN humanitarian office also warned of a “stark increase” in the number of households experiencing severe hunger in central and southern Gaza. This could be linked to the robbery of nearly 100 truckloads of humanitarian aid last weekend in southern Gaza. Israel blamed Hamas, whereas the group said local bandits were behind the robbery.
Meanwhile, Israel says it places no limits on the amount of aid flowing into the Gaza Strip. It also blames UN agencies for not retrieving it, pointing to hundreds of trucks languishing on Gaza’s side of the border. The UN says less than half of the trucks are actually distributed due to the ongoing fighting, Israel’s denial of movement requests and violations of law and order.
Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed more than 44,000 Palestinians throughout the Isreel-Hamas war. In October, the US warned Israel that it might be forced to cut some of its military support if Israel did not increase the amount of humanitarian aid flowing into Gaza.
Reaction to arrest warrants
Along with the UN, world politicians also condemn Israel’s actions in Gaza. Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte blamed the crisis in the Middle East not only on the direct participants in the conflict, but also on those who “did not do enough to prevent it.”
While a cowardly policy continues to bury its head in the sand, the International Criminal Court issues arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Gallant after the carnage of Palestinians in Gaza: approximately 44,000 victims, half of them women and children.
US Senator Bernie Sanders supported the ICC’s decision on Thursday to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant. Sanders stated that the ICC charges were “well-founded,” emphasising the importance of the Geneva Conventions.
If the world does not uphold international law, we will descend into further barbarism. I agree with the decisions of the ICC.
However, outgoing US President Joe Biden, who recently allowed Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with long-range ATACMS missiles, condemned the ruling.
The ICC issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli leaders is outrageous. Let me be clear once again: whatever the ICC might imply, there is no equivalence — none — between Israel and Hamas.
The ICC said Thursday it had “found reasonable grounds” to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant “bear criminal responsibility” for “the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare; and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution and other inhumane acts.”

Gaza is already the most intense starvation catastrophe of recent decades. The death toll from hunger and disease may soon surpass the body count from bombs and bullets. The Famine Review Committee reported this week that Gaza is facing “imminent famine”. The Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) system, set up 20 years ago, provides the most authoritative assessments of humanitarian crises. Its figures for Gaza are the worst ever by any metric. It estimates that 677,000 people, or 32% of all Gazans, are in “catastrophic” conditions today and a further 41% are in “emergency” conditions. It expects fully half of Gazans, more than 1 million people, to be in “catastrophe” or “famine” within weeks. A parallel report from the Famine Early Warning System Network of the US Agency for International Development sounds the same alarm. It is the clearest warning that the network has given at any time in its 40-year history. A rule of thumb is that “catastrophe” or “famine” conditions mean a daily death rate from from hunger or disease of two people out of 10,000. About half are children under five years old. The arithmetic is simple. For a population of 1 million, that is 200 deaths per day, 6,000 per month.

GAZA 😭😭🇵🇸🔗⬇️
support us we lost our home and our workes😔💔
https://gofund.me/9e77d407
My children are sick from the cold and the spread of diseases, and they are all in pain. I have been displaced with my children many times, and each time we had to bleed her precious evacuation money to buy transportation and transportation.
These conditions are absolutely catastrophic. It's the end of the world. No child, no mother, no person should have to go through this.
You can help by donating and sharing so we don't have to struggle anymore. All we are hoping for is to get enough money to evacuate to Cairo so we don't have to rely on the black market for simple things like food anymore.
You can help.
Please take time out of your day to donate to my family, our campaign is moving very slowly and we need your help.
Please help my family get out of this hell. We, like all human beings, deserve safety, comfort, and warmth, and now you have a way to help provide these things for us.
https://gofund.me/5770752d.
Dear, please don't let me down, we deserve life and we deserve your generosity and kindness towards us, you are our lifeline and with your generosity you give us life even a little, but you relieve us of injustice and the cursed war, you are the hope and life once again, be side by side hand in hand, we will make a big difference with faith, strength, will and determination, we will reach the goal, we are very close, I hope you participate and contribute if you can. 💜🇵🇸🍉🍉💐💐.
I am a mother of three beautiful little girls, Sana and Hanan. Hla has been sick recently and Hla needs to be vaccinated very soon, but I can tell you that the situation has been very difficult in Gaza and the campaign has been slow lately.
Thank you to everyone who donated and participated from the bottom of my heart, but my campaign needs more support and interaction. I think that my campaign did not receive the required interaction and attention. It is not my fault that I am Palestinian so that I do not receive support. I think that other campaigns and non-Arab campaigns take momentum from interaction and support. It is not my fault that a Palestinian is marginalized for the sake of my children, humanity, and children's rights. Help m🙏🏻🙏🏻💔💔.
My name is Tahani, I am 30 years old from Gaza and I have three very young children, Sana, Hanan and my youngest, Hala, who grew up during the war. Our house was destroyed, I was displaced several times and I am currently separated from the rest of my family - my husband, brothers, sisters and parents. I cannot tell you how stressed I am.

I am doing my best to take care of my children by myself, despite facing hunger, thirst, disease and the threat of death. The other day, there was heavy shelling near me and another family close to us was killed. Life in Gaza is now hell and I tell you that we are living as if we are waiting for our turn to die.
I am Tahani from Gaza, I am 30 years old. I stand before you as a person trying to maintain my family. I am married and a mother of three children: Sana, who is seven years old, Hanan, who is five years old, and a girl named hla. She grew up during the war and in very harsh conditions that no human being can bear. I moved from the hospital directly to the tent. I cannot describe the extent of the suffering and difficulty of living in the tent.
But I need help. The situation in Gaza is very bad right now, with the IDF preventing aid from entering and the food, water and medicine that is available are very expensive. Please share and donate to help me and my children survive and eventually leave Gaza.
Thank you all. I hope you will support me to save my life and the lives of my children🇵🇸🍉🍉.
‼️Please don’t skip taking a look 🍉🇵🇸.
We are trying to survive in miserable conditions in tents in Mawasi Deir al-Balah, south of Gaza. It is difficult for me to find the words to describe what we face every day in Gaza. No food, no medicine, no clean drinking water, oppression, helplessness, psychological pressure, doubts and daily trauma due to the loss of loved ones. In Gaza, it is not only hunger, disease and fear; it means actual death.
We have been forced to move more than 7 times, and my house has been completely destroyed, and I cannot provide enough milk, diapers, medicines, and vitamins for my children.💔🍉🇵🇸😭
Now, I find myself in this difficult situation, and I strongly and humbly ask for your help to save the lives of my family, especially my children, by getting us out of Gaza. The situation in Gaza has become unbearable due to slow death as a result of hunger, thirst, displacement, the spread of diseases and continuous bombing.🍉🇵🇸💔
The past months have been full of hell and horror. This war has gone on for too long, and our mental health and lives are constantly at risk. We have reached a point where there is no hope anymore in Gaza, as if we are waiting for death. Even if a ceasefire is reached, the devastation in Gaza in all its forms cannot be quickly repaired
Please help me and my children to get us out of genocide🍉🇵🇸💔.
Your help will contribute greatly to alleviating our suffering. I hope you will share my story with your family and friends.💔💔
I will be forever grateful for your kind assistance in this difficult time🇵🇸🇵🇸
Thank you for your kindness and generosity❤️.
