Trying to explain once more to my nana that a cat being seal point does not make it siamese and most cats are just Cats with no breed and the street mongrel lady cat across the street that churns out seal point kittens because some enterprising tom knows a good thing when he sees it has no trace of selective breeding whatsoever and is not in fact siamese, she’s just a seal point cat.
She nods along.
But at the end she insists “But my cat is siamese.”

random: if i ever do cat breeding and i get a litter of four male cats i'll call the litter the non-fiction four and their registration names would all be hitorie song titles. also i think their call names would be the members' names :)

The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (UK) posted this to their Facebook page today:
We are very excited to announce our NEW RECOGNISED BREED - The Transylvanian! đŸ€©
'Indigenous to the woodlands and forests around the Carpathian Mountain areas of Romania and Hungary, the Transylvanian cat is the most recently discovered natural breed in the world.
They have fascinating features such as the reverse Karparti coat, born white, over the first 12 months the kitten grows a black, blue or sometimes a red coat whilst leaving the points of the ears, nose and paws white. Basically a reverse point! The Transylvanian is thermal too, being lighter in summer and darker in winter.
The foundation breeders led by Beverly Elian (WCF Judge) are based in Romania, Hungary, Switzerland and in the UK with Stuart & Amanda Brass.
Extensive testing has occurred on all four generations supported by Leslie Lyons and it appears the breed is robust with no genetic or hereditary issues appearing in any of the litters.'
Not seen and heard enough? You can see our newly recognised Transylvanian at the Feline Fair! Buy your tickets here - https://tinyurl.com/5dm7kp9a! đŸŽŸïž

Monster boy with a breeding and mommy kink that’s desperate to get you pregnant so he can be snuggled and taste your breast milk
he both wants to be pampered and spoiled and to do the same to you

Maybe it’s a cat hybrid/werewolf that lost his mother when he was young and still has those kitten/puppy behaviors, wanting to knead and suckle on your breasts while you keep his knot warm.
Maybe it’s a vampire/elf that hasn’t seen his mother in centuries and just needs that affection and unconditional love, who wants to sleepily fuck into you while while you give him lots of affection and encouragement.
He just loves you, you’re his mate, his lover. You’re the only one that can make him feel so soft, so fuzzy and warm inside. He calls you mommy/mama when he cums, and just wants lots of snuggles for aftercare.
Tell him he did a good job, and how much you love him
he really needs to hear it.
Thinking
 thinking about this a lot

as far as I'm aware, you can stop dangerous spinal conditions from developing in Manx cats as long as you breed them with tailed cats often enough. so some of the kittens will be born with tails and some without, but there won't be the extreme spine shortness that leads to health problems. that usually comes from breeding two Manx together that have shorter than usual spines. if you're an ethical Manx breeder, you would probably not use those cats for breeding at all, to avoid the risk of developing health problems.
so it is possible to ethically breed Manx cats, if you're careful, and I am sure it's possible to ethically breed many breeds of cat, if you treat the health of the cats as paramount. I think many of the problems come in when there is a high demand for a certain breed, resulting in them being very expensive. this leads inexperienced breeders, or people who are not breeders at all, to see dollar signs, and set up substandard breeding operations that aren't ideal for the health of the kitties. because they care more about making money than about cats.
it is true that many cat breeds are formed by inbreeding or backcrossing (mating a cat with its parent). someone sees a cat with an interesting trait and says "hey I wonder if that can be bred for" and then does that. but genetic diversity is good for a species! it keeps health problems from developing for this exact reason!
especially since, like, there are so many unwanted cats in the world ALREADY. you don't need to deliberately breed more! what we should be doing is spaying and neutering as many of them as possible!
one fun fact is that the characteristic colorpoint Siamese coat, with the dark tail and paws, is a natural variation. it doesn't lead to health problems, it's just a way cat coat colors can work. the cats are usually born white or cream-colored, and the darker colors gradually develop in the places on the cat's body that are slightly cooler, i.e., the extremities. this makes a lot of sense in that darker colors absorb more heat, so that's where you'd want to put the darker fur anyway! there are of course purebred Siamese, but as far as I know, you don't need to backcross them to get the right coloration.
cats that have one colorpoint parent and one tabby parent often end up looking really gorgeous (do a search for "lynx point") with no fancy inbreeding necessary. there are so many beautiful cats already in the world, and of course the most beautiful cat to you is always going to be the one you love.
if you do want to buy a cat instead of adopting, make sure you know what you're signing up for. hairless cats look cool, but they require regular bathing since they don't have hair to absorb skin oils. Bengal cats look cool, but they are extremely active and often have problems with using the entire house as a litter box. (there are reasons why wild cats don't make good pets!) a lot of people want special breeds for how they look, and then can't handle their behavior or temperament, which is much more important for a good relationship with your cat.
having fostered kittens for a couple of years, I know firsthand that domestic cats come in all kinds of personality and temperament, even from the same litter. you might get one who is shy and skittish and one who is outgoing and friendly, in the exact same litter of cats. shelters will probably have some information about the personalities of the cats there, and you can decide beforehand if you want a cat that's easygoing and independent, or one that just wants to sit around the house and sleep most of the time, or one that needs a lot of play time and loves human interaction. you don't need to choose a breed and pay for it, because you can get whatever kind of temperament you're looking for for free, or at least much cheaper than buying a purebred.
of course many people end up with cats by accident. we took in a cat that someone else found but couldn't keep, and while my roommate would probably pick a cat that is friendlier if she were going to choose, we've gotten along with our shy kitty just fine.
...okay, apparently when I start talking about cat breeds the entire rant comes out whether I want it to or not, sorry about that.
looks at the cat breeds blog and gets mad about cat breeds all over again

is the actual pattern of white spotting genetic? theres these two cats on youtube (mother and daughter) who have a spot on their muzzle in about the same place so i was wondering
We have a fairly good hint for that, i think: cloned cats.
The differences between the donor and the clone shows how much of it is random:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the very first pair: Rainbow, the tortie is the donor and CC, the tabby is her clone. You can see how the amount of the white is roughly the same but the exact shape is different. (Rainbow's color goes down onto both of her forelegs, CC has a higher and wider triangle on her face, they have colored splatches on different legs. However both of them have mostly white ears.)
Two other examples: Garlic

and Bear.

This latter one is especially interesting, because both clone kittens have the characteristic face pattern in a very similar fashion.
