nothing in the world belongs to me |carmen berzatto x reader|
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
prompt: still new in your relationship, you show up to the bear for dinner unexpectedly, surprising carmen and the others.
based off this prompt from the other day :)
contains: fluff lol. really, it's just fluff. established-ish relationship (the others don't know). carmen being a little nervous and possessive but mainly cute <3 language.
“Alright, listen up,” Richie stood next to Sydney, flicking through the piles of tickets that were ringing through by the second. It was normal now, an expected task in their routine. “We need to walk the focaccia to table seven, please.”
“Yes, Chef!” A chorus of nearly robotic voices rose from the sizzling hiss of the lamb searing in Carmen’s pan, lifting the spatula to tip the meat over, before giving it back to the chef on the line.
“And for table nine, we’ve got a shellfish allergy, alright? So let’s triple check the cross contamination on that. T, can you handle that one?” Richie moved from his leather bound book of notes back to the ticket.
“Yes, Chef!” Tina chimed, pulling a freshly washed pan, filling it with the veal stock.
“Table nine, is that- that’s the senator?” Carmen turned to Richie, tasting the roux bubbling on Victoria’s station, giving her a curt nod of approval.
“No, that’s table eleven.” Richie hummed, looking back at his notebook. “Nine, is… a birthday. Booked online.” Carmen had already begun to drone him out, mind racing with a million other things as Richie listed the guests name. Until he got to one.
The name Carmen was sure he was hallucinating. The name no one knew- How would they know? How could they possibly know your name?
You and Carmen had been seeing each other for a little while. A few weeks that were slowly turning into months. A casual thing that was slowly turning more serious. Dates and meetups are becoming more frequent. You’d even invited him over to your place a few times, he’d spent the night last week.
Still, Carmen hadn’t managed to tell anyone. Selfishly, he liked that you were all his for now. Privacy was not guaranteed in the Berzatto house, in Carmen’s life still. He knew they meant well, they always did- he knew it wasn’t purposeful, the intrusion that almost always led to a demise. Carmen wasn’t ready for it, not yet, he still wanted you all to himself.
“Carmen?” Sydney’s voice pulled him out of his panicked trance. “Chef, are you- are you good?” Her voice lilted with that familiar suspicious quip, the one always accompanied with her lifted brows.
“What?” Carmen blinked, hands buzzing, heart thumping. He could see the window, Richie’s frame blocking most of it. “Sorry, yeah- yeah, I’m good, Chef.”
Sydney watched him carefully, a slow nod before she continued calling out orders. Carmen could feel Richie’s eyes on him, narrowed with curiosity. Carmen tried to be nonchalant, crossing the kitchen back towards Tina, his eyes cutting carefully, looking out the window.
There you were.
Sitting pretty at the middle table, surrounded by friends, some Carmen recognized from your Instagram. He’d actually logged in to the app, looked you up after the first date, consumed every photo of yours in the dark of his room. Cheeks burning with excited heat, stomach fluttering in a way he hadn’t felt since junior high.
“Alright, walk five salads to nine.” Sydney called out. “Where’s our runners? God, Richie, can you run-”
“-I got it.” Carmen called, the urgency in his tone making Tina jump behind him. Carmen took the tray before Gary could, his hands shaking as he lifted it.
“Cousin, I can get it.” Richie frowned.
“No, I-I got it.” Carmen nodded, swallowing down his fluttering nerves. His eyes cut to your table through the window, heart skipping when he saw you. “I got it. I’ll be- I’ll just be a second.”
“I don’t- I can’t even handle that one right now.” Sydney sighed in exasperation. “Alright, Chefs. Let’s get back on track.” She announced, shaking her head. Richie frowned, pulling out his phone.
Sugar’s cell buzzed against the hostess stand, excusing herself to check it.
From: Richie
‘Look at table nine.’
Sugar huffed.
To: Richie
‘Why? Is there something wrong?’
She stepped back, casually turning to scan the room, eyes landing on the table. A small group of girls, younger, and amongst them- Carmen?
To: Richie
‘Is something wrong with the food? Do I need to comp it?’
From: Richie
‘No. Cousin wanted to go out there.’
Sugar frowned, angling her body behind the large plant near the front as casually as she could. She watched through the leaves as Carmen passed out the salads, each girl grinning widely, but their eyes always cut to one on the end.
Carmen saved your salad for last, hoping the lowlights of the restaurant would hide his boyish blush, setting the bowl in front of you carefully. “Hey,”
“Hi,” You smiled sheepishly, looking to meet his gaze. “Everything looks so good.”
“Yeah? Thanks.” Carmen nodded. “I-I didn’t know you were comin’ tonight.”
“I’m sorry.” You cringed softly, embarrassed heat flooding through your veins. You knew better, knew you shouldn’t have done this- showed up at his restaurant unannounced.
“I, uh, it’s my friend’s birthday.” You nodded towards Alicia at the end of the table. “And I was telling them about that pasta you made me, and they really wanted to come try it.” Your nerves bubbled, rambling in nervous peals that seemed to pour out before you could stop them.
“Yeah, no, that’s really nice. Thank you.” Carmen nodded, giving a half smile to your friends, hoping they didn’t see the way he wiped his clammy hands on his apron. “Why didn’t- Why didn’t you just call me? Tell me you were comin’ in.”
“I didn’t want to bother you.” You muttered softly. “I honestly didn’t think you’d even see us here, I swear. I didn’t mean to bother you or anything-”
“-You’re not bothering me.” Carmen’s voice dropped to a coo, accompanied with a soft smile that had your head spinning. “Never a bother, but, uh, next time? Bother me, ok? Wanna make sure you get the best seat in the house.”
Your cheeks flushed with heat, your friends excited giggles only intensifying the rushing heat blanketing over your body. Carmen’s own cheeks heated, tongue rolling on the inside of his cheek to hide his grin.
“Alright?” Carmen added, and in a complete act of shocking boldness, his hand squeezed your shoulder affectionately. A small gesture on the outside, but for Carmen, it was huge.
“Alright.” You grinned, leaning into his touch, your hands sliding over his.
“How’s everything so far?” Carmen turned to the table, nodding at the excited gushes of compliments, not missing the way your friends cut their eyes to you with animated glee.
“Just let me know if you need anything, ok?” Carmen turned to you.
“I will.” You nodded, starry eyed with love sick affection.
“Good. I’ll see you before you leave, alright?” Carmen muttered, ducking down towards you. His lips brushed over your cheek, your perfume clouding his senses. “You’re not botherin’ me. ‘M glad you’re here.”
Your cheek pressed to his, a gentle, affectionate rub before Carmen parted. Both of your features painted with shy delight.
Carmen could feel everyone’s eyes, through flickering gazes and lifted brows. Sydney’s gaze lingering over him skeptically, still counting tickets. Fak’s wide grin from the corner, loading trays to take out.
“Hey, uh, Marcus.” Carmen ignored Richie’s raised brows, a teasing, questioning remark on the tip of his tongue.
“Yes, Chef?” Marcus muttered, looking up from the cannolis he was garnishing.
“Table nine has a birthday. I was thinkin’ maybe the chocolate ganache, punch it with the little circle to make it look like a cake. Add a candle?” Carmen muttered, hand rubbing across his face.
“Yeah, Chef, I can do that.” Marcus nodded.
“Thank you.” Carmen nodded. “And Chef? Let me know when it’s ready before you walk it.”
Marcus frowned. “No, it’s not- I just wanna walk it, ok?” Carmen shook his head.
“Alright.” Marcus nodded slowly. “Heard, Chef.”
Richie smirked, leaning against the stainless steel table. “So,” Richie hummed. “There a complaint or somethin’? Need me to go talk to ‘em-”
“-No,” Carmen snapped, the possessiveness in his tone startling the both of them. “Sorry, it’s- No, I-I don’t need you to do that, Chef. Everything’s good.”
Richie nodded slowly, passing the dishes to Gary with a nod. “You gonna tell me what that was about?”
“No, Chef.” Carmen clipped, an edge to his tone that was teetering on annoyed. “But, uh, there’s not gonna be a check on table nine.”
“What?” Richie frowned. “Did you mess somethin’ up? Seriously, Cousin, if something's wrong it’s my job to know-”
“-No, it’s not-.” Carmen huffed, eyes pinching closed, running a hand over his face in frustration. “Look, that’s… The girl on the end? I-I’ve been kinda seein’ her, ya know?” He muttered.
Richie gawked, blinking in disbelief. “No shit.” He grinned. “No shit? You-You’re serious?” He turned to look out the window.
“Don’t fuckin’ look.” Carmen hissed. “Look, it-it’s not a big deal, alright? Just don’t-don’t say anything o-or do anything.”
Richie swallowed back a teasing remark, a reactive reaction from years of being with Mikey. How the two of them used to tease Carmen endlessly, until they were fighting on the front lawn, Mikey howling with laughter while Carmen was red faced with mortified anger.
This time, Richie held back. He wasn’t sure why, call it divine intervention, a gut feeling maybe, but it felt different this time.
“Alright.” Richie nodded slowly. “No ticket for nine. Heard.”
Carmen’s foot tapped anxiously. “I mean, right? Th-That’s what I should do right?” Carmen looked over his shoulder out the window. “That would be shitty to give her a check? Be a complete jagoff move to charge her?”
“Yeah,” Richie scoffed lightly. “Jagoff of the fuckin’ year. Makin’ your girl pay to come to your place.”
Carmen’s heart swelled at the term- your girl. His girl. You were his girl.
“Walk four Pappardelle to nine. Walk one Pappardelle vegetarian style to nine.” Sydney called.
Carmen dipped the spoon in the glaze, garnishing the plate before sliding it towards Sydney. “So, you gonna take these out?” He muttered.
“No,” Carmen huffed. “Gonna wait until the cake.”
“Yeah, good idea, Cousin.” Richie nodded with a proud smile. “That when you’re gonna tell them no check tonight?”
“No,” Carmen shook his head. “I don’t- It would feel weird comin’ from me.” He looked up at Richie. “I was gonna let you do it.”
“Yeah, I can handle that.” Richie smirked. “And I won’t say anything, Cousin.” He stopped Carmen before he could say it. “I got you, Cousin. I won’t fuck it up, alright?”
Carmen nodded slowly, a strangled thank you on the tip of his tongue. The door swung open behind Richie, and for a second, Carmen caught a glimpse of you. Smiling and laughing, leaned in over the table, no doubt giggling with your friends about him. Carmen’s heart squeezed, but this time, without fear. No, there was no dooming fear that you were mocking him, making fun of him. This time, he felt the content rush of adrenaline filled love. A change in his routine, yes. Unexpected, sure, but he was glad for it. Glad that you were there- here, with him.

“Sydcarmy shippers are creating romance where there isn’t romance!”
“Carmy said Claire is peace!”
“Claire and Carmy should be endgame!”
Respectfully shut the hell up. Carmy is far too busy experiencing the horrors to be correct about anything. This man has to make fancams of Sydney in his brain just to function.
The IMMEDIATE sigh of relief after Sydney pops into his mind is actually hilarious. Carmy is a LOVERBOY.

Y'all, Luca is not as ambitious as Carmy, he already said that, nor does he want to be. He is fine with being #2. He is fine with being Pippen to Marcus' Jordan.
Part of the reason Syd likes Carmy is because he is like that because she is like that. Luca will not push Syd the way Carmy does, even though Carmy is frustrating AF and is not being a good partner and needs to learn to truly collaborate.
She knows Carmy is an artist, she is inspired by him, just like she is Carmy's muse and every foolish thing he has done thus far has been trying to impress her or prove that he's worthy of that admiration.

overwhelming morning- c.berzatto
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: carm comes to sugar to meet his niece, he meets someone else too...
pairings: carmen berzatto x fem! reader
--------------------
He was exhausted. Longest days, longer conversations, more and more responsibilities.
And now he was an uncle.
He pulled into Sugar’s driveway with a sigh, it was early, too fucking early for a Sunday, but there he sat in his car. The same white t-shirt, same jeans, same jacket, same unruly curly hair, pleading with himself to go inside. His anxiety had flared, and he couldn’t really breathe, he had no idea why, or how he was supposed to go inside and meet a new human, someone who would also rely on him. He wasn’t sure how he’d deal with it, and the last thing he wanted his niece to see was him crashing out.
“Fuck me,” he whispered into the silence of the car. He saw headlights in his mirrors and he frowned. Who else was coming to Sugar and Pete’s place at 7am on a Sunday? You stepped out of the car and his heart stopped. Holy shit. It was you, you were here. You were actually here.
The girl Carmen Berzatto had been in love with since he was 12 years old. You were walking into Sugar and Pete’s house, with a kid in your arms. A 4 year old, from what he could see. A little boy, with a rainbow jacket and a hat on his head, half-asleep against your chest.
Sugar opened the door with a smile and pulled you in for a hug. Then the door closed, and he was left with more questions than answers, and he had to go in.
He knocked on the door, and you opened it, the boy still in your arms.
“Carmen,” you smiled. It was strange hearing you say that. “It’s nice to see you.”
“Y/n,” he smiled, confusion written all over his face. “I-It’s good to see you too.”
“Come on in, Sugar’s in the living room,”you explained. “She’s gorgeous,” you told him.
“Mom,” the little boy yawned. “It’s too early.”
You pouted and pressed a soft kiss to his forehead. “I know, baby.”
He snuggled further into your neck and he yawned once again. Carmen smiled.
“This is Mikey,” you explained. Carmen raised an eyebrow. “Coincidence, but it works pretty well in my opinion.”
Sugar walked in and stared at the two of you. “He knows?” she asked. You shook your head.
“It’s fine Sug, I just need to put Mikey down to nap somewhere,” you smiled. “I’ll talk to him later.”
She nodded, but the scowl on her face didn’t leave, and it was all for Carmen. You walked off to put Mikey in an upstairs bedroom, and Carmen followed Sugar into the living room to meet his niece. She was beautiful. She was calm, smiley, and much too adorable for one singular child, and Carmen loved her already. Any and all of his anxiety melted away when she grabbed his finger.
“She’s strong,” Carmen smiled. Pete nodded, looking at his child with all of the love in the world.
“She’s perfect,” Pete smiled. Sugar stood over him, watching as the two men stared at the baby.
“You’re going to protect her, right Bear?” she asked. He nodded, knowing he’d do anything for her.
“Always.”
You walked back in, Mikey set down for a nap. “Can I talk to you Carmen?” you asked.
He was pulled out of his trance, and he followed you to the kitchen. You leant against the counter, something on your mind. Mikey used to say he knew two things,  you, and cooking. You played with the ends of the sleeves.
You looked older than you did when he left. He was sure he did too. You looked tired, but happy. A bit skinnier, a bit wiser. He smiled when he saw the chain he’d given you still around your neck.
“Mikey is yours,” you told him. “When we were hooking up before you left for New York, I found out, but you blocked me so I couldn’t tell you. I didn’t come and find you immediately, and I’m sorry. I was being immature and selfish and I was still hurt that you had left just like that. I wanted Mikey to be mine for just a little bit longer, and that was shitty of me, so I’m sorry. If you want to be in his life, I’d be happy for you to do that. I’m not open to splitting time because Mikey is a really anxious kid, and he doesn’t like being around new people. We can talk about that down the line, if you want to. He knows you’re his dad, but I’ve never bad-mouthed you to him. He looks at stuff about you online, but he doesn’t know about the Bear. I didn’t want him to think you didn’t want to see him.  I don’t want child support, I’m doing just fine. I’m not telling you to make you feel bad or to get anything from you. It's been eating at me for 5 years, so I wanted to tell you. Sorry if that’s a lot.”
He stared at you as a million thoughts ran through his head. Why had he ever broken up with you? Why did he ever block you? He could’ve had the perfect life he’d always wanted with you, and he didn’t even know it. His eyes welled up with tears and he tried to push them down, but when you wrapped your arms around him, he couldn’t stop himself. He held you tight and cried into your hair.
He had a kid. He could’ve had a wife. He could’ve been a dad. He could’ve been your husband.
“I’m sorry,” he croaked out. “I should’ve never fucking left you.”
“It’s alright Carm,” you soothed him, running your hand through his hair. “I know it’s a lot.”
You both stood there like that, holding each other in the low light of the kitchen, the sun rising in the window. You were warm against him, he was colder than he thought he was, but you didn’t care. You held him anyway. You cared.
He composed himself. “I-I want to be in his life. If t-that’s alright?”
“Of course it is,” you nodded. “We’ll go to dinner sometime soon, yeah?”
“Can I see him?” he asked, his voice smaller than he’d ever heard it.
You smiled. “Yeah Carm, of course you can.”
You took his hand and led him upstairs. You were as calm and collected as ever. You always had been. You were so calm. Carmen was the psycho.
You cracked open the door to Sugar and Pete’s bedroom and Carmen got a full view of Mikey sleeping peacefully in their bed. He had the same unruly blonde curls as him, but he saw your eyes when he’d looked at him earlier. His little shoes and his jacket were placed perfectly beside the bed, his glasses were on the bedside table.
For the second time that morning, Carmen felt overwhelmed with the love he felt for someone. He looked at you, eyes shining when you looked at your son.
Maybe it was the third time that morning.

The nurturer : Sydney Adamu's legacy
Part 1
(Part 2)
4. Richie : from enemy to kindred spirit
What started out as an antagonistic relationship has quietly evolved into a friendship rooted in mutual respect. Both Sydney and Richie are outsiders looking in, more alike than they care to admit.
In her own way, Syd gently steers Richie back on track when needed, she praises his growth and celebrates his positive changes. Despite their rocky history, Sydney entrusts Richie with significant responsibilities — something few with their shared history would do. Yet, her faith in him is unwavering, offering him words of encouragement, and he consistently rises to meet her expectations.

5. Carmy : only time will tell
Observant by nature, Carmy is the first to verbalize Syd's inherent nature. It's therefore curious that with him, her gestures take on a quieter form, often disguised as actions for the restaurant. Her unyielding support is less overt but no less deliberate, offering exactly what he needs, without seeking recognition or overwhelming him. She cares for him in subtle, unobstrusive, ways, always mindful not to startle the Bear. There's a distinct softness in the way she cares for Carmy. Only time will tell if this difference holds deeper meaning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, eventually, the nurturer cracks. The relentless pressure to maintain that level of dedicated care becomes suffocating. The weight of immense responsibility presses down with an unbearable force, and they reach their breaking point. Their reserve runs dry, every last ounce of energy and strength completely drained.

Will Marcus, Tina, Nat, Richie and Carmy be there for Sydney, like she has always been there for them?

Note
had this thought of being in your first trimester while pregnant with teddy, and you’re so sick you can barely hold down saltine cracker. and one day at family he’s trying to get you to eat and you’re like “no i literally can’t” and he snaps at you in front of everyone
"C'mon, just try a little bite." Carmen coaxes, what was supposed to be a soothing tone was falling short, that snip in his tone was fueled with irritation.
"Carmen," You moaned lightly, your stomach lurching at the thought.
The smell of the kitchen was enough to make you nauseous, walking through only for a moment before you felt ill. Normally, your mouth salivated at the smells, tummy rumbling at the promise of the family meal.
That changed quickly after you found out you were pregnant. Only a few weeks, but your symptoms were coming in stronger each day. Hormonal acne that was angry and hurt to the touch decorating your jaw and chin, fatigue that washed over you in waves so strong it left your head spinning, and morning sickness. Well, morning was generous seeing as it followed you throughout the day. Your sense of smell was more sensitive, as was your stomach, and that combo was far from ideal. You'd smelled cilantro when you walked in and had to run to the bathroom.
Carmen understood, he did, but your recent hunger strike of sorts because of your stomach was making him beyond nervous. He'd looked up all the important, nutrient rich foods for you, insistent that you eat them.
And you would, if you could. If it didn't come shooting back up twenty minutes later.
"You gotta eat." Carmen frowned at you. "You can't starve yourself. Starve the baby."
"Carm, I'm not starving myself or the baby." You snapped, low and under your breath. "I'm gonna throw up if I eat it, ok? My stomach is fucked."
"Probably because you haven't eaten anything." Carmen glared at you, nodding towards the loaded bagel sandwich in front of you. "C'mon."
"Carmen, the thought of eating that right now is making me already gag." You muttered, holding a hand to your mouth, trying to swallow the spit already pooling in. "I'm not eating that."
"Baby, you have to-"
"-Carm, I will later, but I can't right now. I just threw up." You whined. There came the surge of emotions, raging and wild, the annoyance masked with frustration and tears.
"Eat. I'm not playin' with you anymore." Carmen's tone was harsh, cutting and firm, loud enough to bring the attention of the table towards the two of you.
Your lip wobbled, stomach twisting now with the humiliation of tears as well. You shoved your seat out, stomping towards the bathroom with burning tears. The table was silent, looking at Carmen.
Tina glared at him. "The fuck's the matter with you, Jeff?" She huffed, already standing to check on you.
"I-I'm just... She's not eating. And-And it's bad for the baby-"
"Carmen, really?" Sugar huffed, rolling her eyes. "You're so stupid."
"I gotta agree with Sug on this one." Richie quipped, nodding before shoveling the pasta in his mouth. "You are a fuckin' moron."
"Fuck off, alright? I'm a moron because I don't want my baby to starve?" Carmen huffed. The table erupted in comments, mostly derogatory towards Carmen's last comment and in defense of you.
"She's not starving your baby, you idiot." Sugar huffed. "She's sick. Ok? That is a different kind of sickness. One you will never understand." Sugar sneered. "And right now, there's probably only one craving that the baby won't reject, so maybe instead of being a dumbass-"
"-total jagoff-"
"-complete asshole-"
"-Go check on her." Sugar placed her hands on her hips, the sisterly glare that only an older sister could possess.
Carmen hated that she was right, hated that they all were. But he hated that you were upset and in the bathroom more.
"Can I come in?" Carmen knocked lightly, hearing Tina's soothing voice over your retching and sniffles. His heart plummeted.
Tina opened the door with a glare, one that had Carmen stepping back. "You not gonna come in here and make Mama more upset, you got me, Jeff?" Tina sneered, a painted brow raised menacingly at him.
Carmen just nodded dumbly. "You better get in there and make it right, you hear me?" Tina pushed past him.
You were sitting on the tile, one hand wiping your tear stained face, the other cleaning your mouth with a piece of toilet paper. You glared at Carmen through tear stained eyes, sniffling softly, making his heart crack.
"Baby," Carmen knelt down, a hand running over your hair soothingly. "I'm sorry, alright? I-I didn't mean to yell like that."
You just glared at him, wiping under your eyes. "I just... I don't know, I'm scared. I'm scared that something will happen to the baby, and-and it will be my fault."
"How would it be your fault?" You mumbled through a pout. "It's my body."
"Yeah, but, I-I don't know. Like if I miss a step or don't do everything right it will... It'll be bad and it's gonna be my fault." Carmen muttered, looking down at the tile.
"That's not how it's gonna be, Carm." You sigh, your heart melting at his admission. You knew he was scared, you were too. Just trying to figure it out together. "You can't plan everything and expect it to go like that. Not with a baby."
"I know." Carmen ran a hand down his face, looking back at you sweetly. "I'm just... I-I'm sorry, ok? I didn't mean to pressure you like that and be an asshole... or a jagoff... or a dumbass..."
You giggled lightly, lips curling. "You're not a dumbass all the time." You said playfully. "I promise, I will eat, Carm. I just can't do the vegetables and cheese today." You said, gagging lightly at the thought.
"Yeah? That's alright. What can you do, hm? What're you in the mood for?" Carmen hummed, running a hand down your hair.
You thought for a moment, hand running over your tummy lightly. You'd barely started to show, looking like bloat, but it drove Carmen wild regardless.
"Remember that hot dog we had after our first karaoke date?" You muttered dreamily, leaning your head to the side.
It felt like a lifetime ago. You and Carmen had just gotten 'serious'. Everything was exciting and new, and you'd taken him to a karaoke bar, serenading him a little tipsy and giggly. You'd been starving on your walk home. Carmen stopped and got you a one am hot dog at a questionable stand, but you'd loved it, sharing it with him, buried into his side while the two of you walked home. It was a shitty hotdog, but Carmen would've ate a million that night to keep you happy like that.
"Yeah?" Carmen tried not to grimace, nose scrunching lightly enough to have you laughing, his shoulders relaxing at the sound.
"I just want a shitty hotdog. Nothing gourmet. Just with some mustard. That's all I've been craving." You muttered.
"Alright. That's what baby wants?" Carmen asked, helping you off the floor sweetly, grabbing your bag for your mouth wash.
You nodded, gargling with it, Carmen holding your hair back while you spit in the sink. "I'll get it for you, ok? I think there's one down the block-"
"-I'll come with you." You added, glaring at him lightly, so he wouldn't protest. "I just need to be outside. Maybe settle my stomach."
"Alright." Carmen nodded, a hand running down your hip. "You got a coat?" You nodded, leaning into his side, walking back to the office with him.
Carmen walked you down to the stand, "overpriced and a tourist trap" he'd grumble, but bought you two hot dogs- just in case. In case you wanted more later. You'd managed to keep it down, sitting with him on the steps of The Bear, pressed into his side, giggly and sharing kisses in between bites.

NAPKINS. SEASON 3 THE BEAR. DIRECTED BY AYO EDEBIRI
One of Televisions best episodes of the year. I agree.
It made me feel so good throughout the messiness and stress of the rest of the episodes

Sydney “Call-Out Queen” Adamu
Tumblr media
I love how Sydney calls Carmy out, one because she’s advocating for herself (and the team), but also because it’s so helpful for him.
Most of the things Carmy does are a result of his deep seated trauma. He’s so in his head (literally all the time ) and she has the power to shake him out that.
As someone who has had some similar struggles to Carmy I can tell you that it is so so helpful to have someone wake you up out of the mental shitstorm and remind you that you exist outside of the terrible things in your mind. And no matter his reasons; his outbursts are impacting the people around him. Carmy definitely has to be reminded of this, especially when he’s in the workplace, and especially when he is THE BOSS. (Sidneote; I hear that kitchen environments are generally people just screaming at each other and I think that is soooo fucked. Maybe I am just a sensitive little bitch baby but I don’t think anyone deserves that and especially not on a regular basis :(( Everyone needs to be more like Chef Terry.)
I also love the way she calls him out and the fact that she doesn’t baby him. She’s clear and assertive but she isn’t malicious, she doesn’t hit below the belt, and she doesn’t make him feel small. She’s so compassionate, it is inspiring.
