Doing these always makes me realise how stylised some of the character designs in this show are, namely Carmen’s massive head and the insane slope of Shadowsan’s shoulders 😭

Zack and Ivy are pretty normal tho 👍

I love this episode cause wtf was Shadowsan doing dressed like that any where outside VILE, ‘master of being unnoticed’ bbg put some damn trousers on 😭

CSOW - DAY 2: MISSION - CHANGE

Timeframe: Before S1 even began

At a theme park in Shanghai during a planned heist, Carmen was faced against an obstacle. That obstacle being an operative sent by Vile to stop the elusive super-thief well known as Carmen Sandiego.

This would've been easy, if only years of history weren't made between the two.

What will this person be to Carmen? an old friend? or a new foe.

Keywords: Vulnerability, Exposure, Unfamiliarity, Change.

The way i used lighting here is weirdly "comfortable" for a situation that can tense and lethal. Neither Carmen nor Blank are comfy. it's to give the viewer and the characters a feeling of uneasiness and unfamiliarity for an atmosphere meant to be nostalgic and at ease.

Or it can be interpreted as their priority or end game. only abit of green light is seen in the scene. to show that they're acknowledging that Vile is there, but their bond comes first. Hence the shitload of warm light

Carmen doesn't seem to be wearing her signature red fedora and coat, neither is Blank wearing his mask. Carmen before the red attire was Black Sheep. Blank before the mask was... whoever he was. The characters lack of their main elements is meant to symbolize longing. An attempt to bond with their old selves. But even so;

It's as if Carmen never even knew him despite the years they've spent together back at the academy. And that Blank lost the Black Sheep he once was close with.

Carmen as seen by Zack and Ivy during their first meeting in the donut shop, but she looks closer to her young appearance in VILE island : her hair goes to her shoulders, her face is rounder and she wears the coat and hat she stole from Cookie Booker. She is frowning and balling her fists as if trying to appear intimidating.

Carmen on the runway in Milan. Her hair, in a ponytail, is fluffy like her regular hair. She looks to the viewer with a cocky smile as she strikes a pose.

Julia in Rio, wearing the ACME suit with the pants instead of the skirt. She is leaning against the table where Carmen and Shadowsan were drinking coffee, looking intently at a cup.

Some things I wish we'd seen in season 2 of Carmen Sandiego! In no particular order, a visibly younger and scruffy Carmen during her first meeting with Ivy and Zack, Carmen's Milan runway look having her fluffy hair instead of it being straightened, Julia in an ACME pantsuit instead of the skirt, and Zack wearing a more original jacket than the black one he wore in the Emirates.

Sadly I don’t have one specific answer, but I just experiment a lot until I feel satisfied! Though sometimes I like to draw real life places!

I’ve to admit, backgrounds are not my best area!

Gravity Falls x Carmen Sandiego AU where Stan is an international super thief and Ford is trying to catch him.

More of the au under the cut!!

The CSxGF au (Carmen Sandiego x Gravity Falls) is an alternate universe in modern setting where the characters follow a similar/inspired plot and trope of Carmen Sandiego. It is basically the characters of Gravity Falls, but with the theme of Carmen Sandiego hehe. Definitely took some elements from that show ofc.

Characters and their roles:

Stanley Pines - (Carmen Sandiego)

Ford Pines - (Chase Devineaux)

Fiddleford McGucket - (Julia Argent)

Slight Background:

Stanley still got kicked out at seventeen and lived on the streets for a while before he got selected and offered a place in VILE. He was already good at theft and all that but his skills improved greatly at VILE. Later when he realised the organisation went beyond just theft to more diabolical things he listened to his moral compass and left. He’s not so homeless anymore cause he sorta stole money from VILE before he left. Sought quick refuge with Shermie’s family first for a few days to get a plan going. Somehow managed to have his nephew offer to hack for him. Ran into Carla later, then recruited Dan when they were making a pit stop at Oregon. Later established a home base at Gravity Falls. Much like Carmen who got her name inspired by a brand, Stan’s alias is named after his car, El Diablo. Wears his signature maroon red coat.

For Ford, everything happens as it does, Stanley gets kicked out and Ford goes to Backupsmore and so on with his life. However, Ford hears about Stanley stealing and being a wanted thief across the globe eventually. Feeling like he has a responsibility to bring Stanley down he attempts to join the Police Force. ACME notices him before he does and recruits him easily due to his intellect and skills. He later calls up Fiddleford and convinces ACME to hire him too.

Cue shenanigans of them trying to catch Stan and fumbling every time.

(Also some angst with plot that I’m cooking but will reveal later)

A little surprise in addition to the comic I made for the @carmencasefileszine!

Obviously it's not the full illustration, I'm just leaving you with a little test. I feel very, very proud of this work because I did two new things: Background and character in lineless mode! In the case of the latter, it's something I always wanted to try to draw and paint without lines, which is super fun and now that I'm not afraid of it, I'll do it more often!

By the way, I based it on a place in the world somewhere for the background. So, do you know where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

Does it fuck you up a little bit to think about how Carmen’s probably-biggest source of positive physical touch growing up, Coach Brunt, tried to literally crush her to death and how it probably fucked her up regarding physical touch?

Anyway I’ve decided to draw a little series of happy moments including touch between Carmen and her family :) And who better to start with than her oldest friend, the one who’s always been there for her?
