Whooooo okay, so. Thoughts.

You can get a lot done in 90 mins. Many books are made into 90 minute movies.

(Season 2 was 6 episodes... but maybe 90 minutes of it total was actually *necessary*.)

Think about what we've learned. Neil wasn't the person we thought he was, and it showed in his treatment of a story we all love. He said himself that he gave fans what they wanted (in terms of the kiss), but we "wouldn't like it." His ego thrived on manipulating, ridiculing and generally stirring up the fan base. The more upset and vulnerable we were, the more satisfied he felt. What do you think, then, was in store for us in his Season 3? Do you think his scripts would have left us feeling satisfied, even if we got the cottage ending?

The new producer doesn't know GO, but the cast and crew love this world and love the story. I'm going to choose to trust that a group of people that overall has been so united and wonderful, so very much on the same page in terms of this love story, will see things through. And I'm excited for an ending that truly is for us... because let's face it, we almost didn't get an ending at all. A TV show that gets rocked in this fashion generally does one of two things: cuts ties and continues if there's enough financial incentive to do so (think House of Cards, Rick and Morty-- both of which are/were MUCH bigger and more profitable than GO), or cancels. Considering how long it took to greenlight S3 and Mickey's "We did the impossible" post on X, I'm sure Amazon was on the verge of pulling the plug. (I'm not going to talk about my opinion on the ethics of these decisions. I'm just saying it's reality. Corporations care about their bottom line and their optics.)

It'll be okay. Let's be optimistic. Neil is gone, the story will continue, and they're doing it for us.

(Last thought: remember that-- in a different reality where Neil Gaiman actually is the person we thought he was-- we might not have gotten anything more satisfying in terms of the A/C love story. Neil doesn't think "settled relationships" are good television. He wouldn't let them lay a finger on each other until the very last episode, I guarantee it.)

(Also, this is the guy who decided that "Crowley lives in his car and Aziraphale doesn't know or doesn't care" made any kind of fucking sense; no, I'm not over it yet.)

Shot-by-shot commentary of one scene from Transformers: The Last Knight

A few months ago, I remembered this movie was a thing, and looked up a clip to see if I'd be able to sit though it just for Optimus.

The short answer is no.

The long answer is that this single scene has driven me insane.

Bear in mind, i have very little context for this scene, so i will primarily be riffing on it from a cinematography angle. Buckle up!

Let's start with this...beautiful? aerial shot of gray metal guys running on a gray metal slope, their considerable scale reduced to that of ants on a plate by the speedy camera.

These two climb out of the structure. Their spatial relation to the rest of the scene is never established.

Aaand now the metal guys are running down from the other side of the screen. Did the camera keep spinning between shots?? Anyways, they start pummeling Optimus.

Cut to Optimus being pummeled from the front. With a bit of planning, this could have been continuous with the previous shot, but...oh boy. Oh boy. Let's not start with that just yet.

Don't forget, girl is here! (This is the last time she shows up in this scene.)

Oh right, Cade was in the corner of the last shot. He gets up, starts running in the opposite screen direction of where Optimus was in relation to him earlier,

...and immediately slips and falls in the next shot. You get to enjoy the moment in lovely slow-motion.

Optimus then explains what is currently happening in the scene for the benefit of anyone staring slack-jawed at the screen by this point.

Then the knights go back to beating Optimus up. One guy takes an axe to his back edged side down, and it doesn't do jack except knock him flat.

Also, Cade is here.

This guy finally comes to deal the killing blow.

What follows is a series of barely connected slo-mo jump cuts of the device on Cade's arm unfolding,

followed by a fast series of time-breaking cuts to show a single sword strike,

oh my god they keep cutting

wait WHO IS THIS, WHERE WAS HE ...oh my god, i scrubbed backwards, he's supposed to have been near Cade the whole time, what

Then there's a dramatic spinning shot, which would have been a cool moment to show the walking props knights holding their swords up in abrupt reverence, but instead we mostly just watch Cade look around in confusion while Optimus grovels.

We interrupt the spinning to inform you that this scene was filmed during golden hour.

Back to spinning. I guess you don't have to worry about the 180 degree rule if your scene spans the full 360, huh?

Cade looks over at Optimus, and Optimus looks back. ...Followed IMMEDIATELY by a fast pan of planes flying behind some knights; my eyes

Optimus keeps talking. His speech is about as continuous as the shots.

We finally get a quiet moment to hold on that last shot for a while, and listen to Cade give a pep talk to a war general who's seen countless human lifetimes' worth of pain and loss.

And that's all that Optimus needed to pick himself up.

We get a triumphant shot of Optimus straightening up, rallying his brothers in arms to rise up against Quintessa...

And for one moment, perhaps your brain can feel a glimmer of joy within the soup of semi-consciousness it's now sinking into.

...

If I watch the whole movie, I will die.

not really! i took standard art classes offered in grade and highschool and attended less than a year of college in pursuit of an art degree.

...and then i realized college was kinda bullshit and dropped out. <- (this is awesome and i'm proud to be a college dropout and i'm not joking) BUT! i had *one* really cool professor who loved anime and had a fursona and they are massively the reason i didn't give up on art as a career.

i'm a strong believer in the internet having almost any class/tutorial/guide that you can think of for Free, so nowadays i'll watch youtube vids or look at free classes to try and hone my skillz

like one of the reasons I hate sapphic gacha game/anime yuri communities so much is because lesbianism is assumed to be the default among weirdass separtists who have no idea how lesbophobia/biphobia actually works. Lesbophobia is assumed to be the presence of bisexuality because the concept of liking men is considered antithetical to political lesbians who could care less if genderfucked people are comfortable around their spaces. bisexuality and pansexuality is seen as connected as heterosexuality instead of being a separate entity punished by heteronormativity. bi women have the highest rate of DV by their male partners for their sexuality for a reason, dumbasses. the highest priority in these spaces is not the celebration of wlw love, but the hegemony of sexual purity because lesbians who cannot connect to multisexual identities is misrepresented as lesbophobia in media, ignoring the invisibility of multisexuality as being something that can coexist with active lesbophobia.

when I first saw Detour, I could have sworn Scully was going to the bathroom when Mulder wakes up and yells for her. I thought it was a good addition of comedy and answered my question "do they feel comfortable going to the bathroom around each other"? I mean, in all those road trips, Scully would have gotten an upset stomach or get diarrhea at some point. If their room were next to each other, would Scully go to a public bathroom so that Mulder wouldn't hear her fart? Does she hold them in during in the car rides?

He doesn't fo sure! He gasses her out.

I think they feel comfortable going to the bathroom around each other. Scully is a doctor and they're usually not at all squeamish about these things. They're all normal body functions and fluids. So I say she didn't go to a public bathroom to fart. If they eat something that doesn't agree with their stomachs, they will for sure crack not one, but two windows in the car.
