given enough time, I suppose almost everything becomes mostly just fashion

look at hippies: in the beginning it was a full-on counterculture movement, with an emphasis on peace, love, anti-establishment, etc.

now? if you find someone in hippie clothes, you're almost guaranteed an encounter with the most annoyingly fake personality you can find outside of a used car dealership

the main difference there is at least the fashion mostly remained the same. with goblincore, you're now somehow expected to believe goblins spend all day knitting tea cozies and sipping tea in their overpriced cardigans
