Demon Slayer/Kimetsu no Yaiba - Review
I never thought I'd find a character that is as sweet and endearing as Alphonse Elric (or even more so) but lemme tell you, I'm in love with so many characters from Demon Slayer/Kimetsu no Yaiba. #1 is Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado. #2 is Kyojuro Rengoku.
Tumblr media
My Spoiler-free-ish Summary:
My spoiler-free review: 11/10 would recommend this anime. It's moving, it's powerful, it's funny, it's disturbing, it's beautifully animated. It can get pretty graphic at times, but it does a brilliant job of making you get sucked into that world. I was personally not a fan of the art style, but the storyline is so fantastic that I didn't even mind it. In fact, I actually like it now. Besides, the style is consistent enough that it works, and the somewhat child-like appearance of most of the characters regardless of age adds to its horror elements. I'd put it on the same level of anime/story telling as Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood), actually, especially with the similarities in central questions and in-depth world-building. Demon Slayer, like Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood), questions what it means to be human, to be resilient, and most importantly (in my opinion), emphasizes the power of compassion. The world it builds has a simple core of rules that's easy enough to understand, but simple enough that it can be further explored.
That's it for spoiler-free! Please watch this show on your own before reading the rest--you'll thank me later!
Tumblr media
Alright, let’s get down to the details. I love this series almost as much as FMA, which is saying a LOT. However, I still have some issues with it.
For one, as much as I love the art style, it’s difficult for me to determine how old the characters are. They’re all drawn with the same, childlike facial structure, regardless of how old they actually are. And it works for this kind of a story, and makes the horror aspects of the show that much more disturbing, but it’s a personal preference that made me push the series off much longer than I otherwise would have. Which is unfortunate!!!! Once again, it’s a personal preference that I learned to overlook as I grew more and more accustomed to it, and I found a new appreciation for it as I watched more of it.
Tumblr media
Another problem that I have with the series is the way injuries are treated during fights. I get that this displays the resilience, strength, and discipline of the Hashira and their breathing techniques, but I feel as though the injuries that they sustain in some of these battles should be treated more seriously. For fuck’s sake, Tanjiro breaks his leg and walks on it for an entire arc without it affecting his movements, for the most part. It snapped me out of the world and made me feel as though their pain isn’t significant, which shouldn’t be the case. And there ARE times when the injuries are addressed as serious problems, like when the Squad(TM) get housed at the butterfly manor, but unless they’re visible injuries, I feel as though they get forgotten. It would be much more interesting to see how the characters adjust their attacks to prevent further injury, rather than watching them either strain themselves or injure themselves more in the process. And I understand that there are times when these characters CAN’T sacrifice that time to heal, or when they need to push through the pain in order to survive a fight, but I feel as though this problem could be fixed by introducing more prominent backup options for these fighters. There are times when you do need to sacrifice your own health in order to survive, but I feel as though the show, for all its really amazing and healthy messages it sends about what it means to be masculine or to love, sends a dangerous one in this regard. Maybe it’s just because I was in dance and watched people brush off injuries and end up hurting themselves more in the process, but I’m not a big fan of it being treated like no big deal.
Additionally, I know they're fan favorites, but I'm not really too invested in Zenitsu and Inosuke, so I'm not gonna talk about them too much in this post. I love them, but not enough that I can say they're a reason I come back to the series. I hope that in the future we can see more growth in their characters rather than having them just be comedic relief.
Tumblr media
Now, as I mentioned right at the top of this post, I LOVE this series. And I love it for so, so many reasons.
First off, I’d like to point at Tanjiro Kamada, aka the sweetest of cinnamon rolls. He’s a fleshed out character with a heart of such pure gold that you can see it shining through a few layers of clothing. He gives off that same warm feeling as sitting in the sunlight coming in through a window. Somehow this series has a character whose moral compass is locked and who’s super kind and compassionate and strong and super powerful but doesn’t become a Mary Sue of sorts. I am in awe. And I think it’s primarily because he’s simply a GOOD PERSON. And I love some good person but are they really but they definitely are but are they really? grey level of morality in a character, but Tanjiro has suffered tremendous losses in his life, even before his home is attacked. His father died, and as the eldest brother of this swarm of siblings, he takes on that parental/guardian role without a single complaint because he loves them. He doesn’t suggest that Nezuko should be taking on more of that responsibility. And that willingness to be responsible is so admirable. Additionally, this establishes how much he cares for and loves his family, which makes their losses hit him and the viewers even harder. We understand that the peaceful, loving place that he treasured is gone. And I think that by knowing this side of Tanjiro, we can greater appreciate his persistence in looking for a cure for Nezuko, or his steadfast belief that everyone has good in them, or how he refuses to give up on anyone.
Tumblr media
Another thing that I adore about Tanjiro is how he takes society’s understanding of what is and isn’t masculine and slams it against the wall. He cries, and he cries openly. He openly shows his emotions, is ALWAYS kind, and he doesn’t use violence without a purpose. He’s always respectful and isn’t afraid to make sure people know that he cares about them. Even when he kills demons he makes sure to give them a genuine compliment or comfort them in some way, which is beyond kindness. That’s seeing the best in everyone without overlooking their bad.
Another thing I love about this series is Nezuko. She is not only queen of my heart but also queen of badassery and napping. Maybe it’s just because I’m an only child, but I also love how much Nezuko cares for her brother and how much Tanjiro cares for his sister. It’s like, I think that if people just handed me any series with a leading fantastic sibling duo in a fantasy setting it would be an instant favorite. It worked for Fullmetal and it’s working again with Demon Slayer. I also love how the creator decided that Nezuko can change her size/age/shape depending on what she feels she needs or how much energy she has left. I love that she can be a small child one second and a ripped lady the next. I also adore how she kicks everything. Never skip leg day, folks.
Tumblr media
She’s a badass and anyone who denies it either can’t comprehend that or aren’t paying attention. And no, I don’t take critiques on that statement. Because yes, she’s sometimes shown to be adorable and somewhat of a sidekick-figure to Tanjiro, but more often than not, she kicks ass and doesn’t bother taking names. And although Tanjiro gets most of the credit, she proves time and time again that she is incredibly strong, as powerful as her brother (or more), and fully capable of defending herself. She saves Tanjiro’s life so many times, and I personally like to think of Nezuko as the one saving him rather than the other way around. Tanjiro defends her with his life and I will too.
Tumblr media
Another thing I love is that each character is incredibly unique and engaging. It’s hard to have such a huge number of characters and make each one of them special, yet this series succeeds. And the design of each character is also just... so good. They’re all so versatile and expressive and fit their personalities so well. Even when the designs are over the top or incredibly intricate, they work because of the style and they work because of the character’s personality. The one that immediately comes to mind is Tanjiro and his ability to be the softest and goodest boy while also being the toughest boy. Or how Rengoku is fiery in every sense: warm, passionate, fierce, destructive. Nezuko can be sweet and almost overly feminine, then absolutely terrifying, and I love how the pink in her eyes gets more or less intense. It’s such a great detail. I could go on, but hopefully my point is clear.
Tumblr media
I also have to say that I love how Tanjiro's optimism and general compassion isn't seen as a weakness. In fact, I love how compassion is regarded instead as a noble quality that's admirable. It shares this message with Fullmetal Alchemist (manga and): Brotherhood, and I will never not have an actual weakness for it. Our Best Boy Tanjiro, Hashira Shinobu Kocho, Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku... they all share this trait, even if their compassion takes on different forms and isn't always seen as such.
Also, Ufotable studio has earned my respect. This series is simply eye candy. More like eye crack. It's such a beautifully animated series, and you can tell that they had SO much fun animating these fight scenes and backgrounds and UGH it's just so damn pretty.
Thanks for reading!

Just to clarify, I'll include manga too if it applies.
1. First anime you ever watched
Ho boy. Does Pokemon count? Lol. I'm gonna say no. So really and truly--and pls don't judge my middle school ass--but my first anime ever was Vampire Knight
2. First anime crush
Tumblr media
Kyo Sohma lol, I was 12
5. List all anime you've ever watched
Um, I'm gonna make this into its own post. I'll link it here once I make it (I'll make it tonight).
6. Popular anime you didn't like
Answered here!
11. Anime you didn't expect to like but did
Aside from BNHA, Fullmetal Alchemist. When we were in 7th grade my bff recommended the FMA manga to me over and over and over again and I didn't listen....until I did. And stayed up for 3 days in a row to read it all in one sitting lol.
12. Anime that should get more attention from others
Well, D. Gray-Man. But I understand the release schedule of chapters being such a turn off lol.
I think Fire Force (2 seasons animated/manga releasing weekly) is really good, fun, and enjoyable (just gotta deal with the tad bit of fan service, but what can ya do).
The K Project Series is really really good too (same fan service issue but this is the world we live in). It's got three seasons animated, plus a movie THAT IS CANON because it bridges season 1 and 2 together. And for people who enjoy big cast stories, this would work for them. The anime tells the main linear storyline, but there is SO. MUCH. CONTENT. still coming out. Really short manga side stories for certain characters' backgrounds (K: Lost Small World is one of my favorites ever), light Novels--->getting turned into manga; CD dramas, so much stuff. K project is a little different because it was an anime first, and all the reading content came after to expand on it. So the anime is actually quite choice 👌🏼 even alongside the reading material.
13. Funniest anime you ever watched
Oh god, idk. Not to give everything to Fullmetal Alchemist but every time I watch it I really do laugh really hard at the same moments each time. The humor never fades lol. Fruits Basket makes me laugh pretty hard too, every time.
14. Saddest anime you ever watched
Does BNHA count lol okay but ummm Charlotte. It was good, and it ultimately had a happy ending, kind of. But the MC's memories were gone by the end of it and it was more bittersweet than happy or sad. It left me kind of big sad. Lol. I avoid sad shit. I always have.

Curious why you hate fma 03, specifically Roy killing rockbells? :D just more of a reason than "because in the manga-!" I hope..
Thank you for the opportunity to Rant, I do appreciate it. :)
First off, I will be honest, I did not finish FMA 03 and I probably will never be able to force myself to finish it. I got to the episode Ling should have been introduced in and realized he wasn’t in it and was extremely disappointed to realize that the Xing gang wasn’t going to be involved. I don’t think anything will change my mind about this because Ling and Mei Chang are two of my favorite characters in FMA and they aren’t even there. The fact that the Xing gang just doesn’t exist is disgraceful to me, personally.
But let’s get into Roy because he is also one of my favorite characters and the 03 absolutely ruined him by having him kill the Rockbells and using them as his reason to become Fuhrer. Was the literal pile of brown bodies you had to step over to kill them not enough for you? The Ishvalian children you killed--they weren’t enough for you? You had to kill two blond haired, blue eyed white people for it to matter to you? And that’s your whole thing? The racism really jumped the fuck out in the 03. The nationalism really popped off in the 03. I hate it here.
If they hadn’t made the Rockbells Roy’s sole motivation for changing the government, I probably could have forgiven them for the stupidity that is the homunculus’ storyline, honestly. But because Roy is the person who killed the Rockbells, it ruins Scars arc and Winrys entire storyline.
Scar is just... boring. He’s boring and that’s the only thing I can think of when thinking about the 03 Scar.
Winry’s shining moment to me will always be when she meets Scar again in the North and choses to bandage his wounds and agrees to let him “kidnap” her so she can get away from Kimblee. That moment is just stunning in terms of growth and development for her in comparison to the first time they met and instead we get what exactly? When she finds out Roy killed her parents she doesn’t even really seem to react to it. Riza tells her Roy was just following orders and that makes it fine??? Vs. her bursting into tears and pointing a gun at Scar??? One of these things hits a little different.
This is really were this rant ends simply because.... I didn’t watch the rest. lol?

The forbidden crack! Untamed prompts: 16/?
FMA AU meets “The Wind Rises” AU : “I still remember every day”
[crazy idea #1: if you are familiar with FMA: Brotherhood (superior in every way) you probably are too young or too smart to remember the original 2003 FMA clusterfuck series but i’m neither young nor smart so here is my take on one of my favorite animated movies of all times “The Conqueror of Shamballa” BUT the story doesn’t start in 1923 Germany but somewhere around 1923 Japan. If you are familiar with this movie and the 2003 series you will know Ed Elric has moved from London to Munich and started living there frequently interacting with a family of rocket scientists (sounds crazy if you are only knowledgeable with FMA: B, but… trust me). So i thought, “what if our protagonist (in this case WWX) travels from China to Japan to work on some airplanes instead?”]
[crazy idea #2: “The Wind Rises” from Ghibli is set in that historical period right? so what if we make transmigrated WWX work his engineering magic on some aircrafts before any conflict can actually take place? precisely between the end of the Taisho period (1912-1926) and the beginning of the Showa period (1926-1989), when the desire for innovation and the new technological advancements could be implemented while at peace.]
[obviously, this is just a prompt, and I don’t feel particularly comfortable with creating fantasy storylines so intertwined with actual historical events, especially if these events caused the suffering of many and belong to a culture that is not mine to describe with the potential risk of offending its values and legacy. also, fandom should be fun and if you love angst maybe this is not the prompt for you. on the other hand I thought of how much i love movies like “Porco Rosso”, set somewhat really fucking close to where I live while describing a fun and lighthearted narrative even if it’s dealing with historical and political events that are still fresh and painful in our collective memory nowadays. Maybe it is possible to write something easy and fun while, at the same time, setting it in a time of great difficulties without hurting anyone. Maybe I’m not the person for that (after all, this is just a prompt), but if you want to explore a similar plot you are encouraged to tag me bc I would really like to know your take on the matter. and if I happen to offend anyone I will properly apologize and take responsibility.]
[the title is from L’Arc-en-Ciel’s song “Lost Heaven”, which still makes me cry to this day]
*
When Wei WuXian wakes up after the core transplant surgery, the first thing he realizes is that he should be awake. Wen Qing insisted on the fact that he had to keep himself awake and conscious for the entirety of the procedure, otherwise he would have suffered from extreme backlash and so would have Jiang Cheng. But here he is, waking up from slumber after who know how many days. In front of a figure in white he doesn’t recognize. Everything is blurry in his periphery, as if he’s inhabiting two bodies at the same time. His every move heavy and his speech sluggish.
The person in white turns the moment Wei WuXian realizes he’s standing in the middle of nowhere, in the space between realities.
“Where am I?”, he asks, trying to make out the features of the person in front of him, their long white hair, the silver lining of their robes.
“You’re here to pay a price.”, the other answers, their voice a mere whisper. Barely louder than the crisp little noises the pins and jewelry adorning their hair and neck are making as the person approaches him slowly.
“A price for what?”
“Before losing consciousness, you wished for your brother to be saved no matter what.”
“Is… is Jiang Cheng safe?”
“He’s dying because you fell asleep.”, the other announces, sending shivers down Wei WuXian’s spine, dread sitting in the middle of his chest, “You cannot wake up, the damage is done. But if you enter this door you will be able to save him. Your body in this world will die, the core will not share two owners at once and your brother will be the only one able to use it from now on.”
Wei WuXian doesn’t have time to feel pain, determination painting him in vibrant colors in that white realm of silence and void. He turns as the person in white gestures him to do so and he finds a door so big it could rival with one of the gates of Koi Tower. Engraved on its surface are myriads of characters reminding him of something ancient and forbidden. Something so dark and dangerous not even cultivators as knowledgeable as Lan QiRen would be able to understand, let alone encourage learning about.
“What will i find on the other side?”, he wonders, watching as the gates slowly open in front of him, a warm wind spiraling upwards and messing his hair.
A kiss from the underworld.
Is this the day I die, he doesn’t ask.
“Another world.”, the woman in white and silver answers honestly.
Wei WuXian doesn’t have time to recognize her that he is dragged inside by a thousands of spirits with eyes for mouths and teeth for hands.
*
Mere months have passed since he woke up in a body similar to his original one, but completely different from his own at the same time. He’s still seventeen, but cannot rely on cultivation anymore. The brand scar he received in the cave of the Tortoise of Slaughter is nowhere to be seen. His mother and father welcomed him back in their arms, crying over his bedridden body thanking the heavens for saving their only son from typhoid fever. He knew deep down those were not his true parents, that Cange Sanren had a different name on top of that and that their actual son’s soul was probably the sacrificial lamb paid on the altar of Wei WuXian’s greed to save his only brother. He knew this since day one, yet he was too tired to say anything at the time. He woke up in a small village in the Hubei Province under the Republic of China, established twelve years prior. A reality almost identical to his own, but stripped of any power of the cultivation world.
However, now things have changed and his parents have died a second time, the fever and starvation taking them in their sleep one at a time. But not before his mother could send a desperate letter to an old acquaintance of hers asking them to take their son “Wei Ying” out of the country and save him from harm. After accepting her proposition, the Chinese diplomat Jiang Fenmiang has invited Wei Ying to live with him and their family in Tokyo, where he’s working in order to strengthen and acquiesce the relations between the two countries after a period of tension and grievances.
As he travels on what he understands to be called a “train”, Wei WuXian takes notes over the many technological advancements this new era has brought to humanity. Such as the ferry he has taken to travel overseas and now the locomotive taking him to Tokyo. The pain of losing his parents for the second time is still fresh, as is the memory of the past few months living alone on the streets chased by rabid dogs. His body is still weak after surviving the fever and his lungs and digestive system are forever compromised, but he wants to meet Jiang Chen and YanLi a second time in this new world. Feeling guilty for leaving them in a world ruled by the Qishan Wen clan, the only thing he can do is to atone in this new life and protect them in this reality. He takes a brief moment to himself as he looks up from his notes and sees a man approaching from the first class carriage of the train.
Initially Wei WuXian doesn’t regard the stranger with anything but a polite nod, some of his notes flying away from his journal as he adjusts himself on the platform at the end of his car. He sprints up to try to catch them... before the stranger could grab them for him and give them back.
It’s then that Wei WuXian recognizes the man, an older version of Lan Zhan from the one he remembers, dressed in modern clothing and shorter hair. He’s just another double, a copy of the original he used to know. Just like his mother and father, just like the Jiang family he’s going to meet soon. No recognition comes from the other-Lan Zhan, yet Wei WuXian lets himself stare for longer than necessary as he thanks the man.
A single tear rolls down his cheek as an earthquake shakes the train and destroys everything around them in that day of September 1923.
[details down below]
1923:
(WWX is 17)
the train stops and all the passengers survive, but they are scared and don’t know how to reach Tokyo safely by foot. Some officers guide them to the nearest road and help them walk for a while before they have to leave for the capital in an attempt to contain the flames of the many fires caused by the earthquake.
Lan Zhan’s double has the same name and features, but is now twenty-five and was supposed to arrive in Tokyo to meet with his brother, Lan Huan’s double. He’s a little more cheerful than what WWX remembers and he also decides to stick with the younger man all the way to Tokyo. After glancing at WWX’s notes earlier, in fact, double!LanZhan recognizes him as someone from his same country and reasons they should feel safer traveling together for a little while more.
given that trying to explain his situation to double!LanZhan would be useless, WWX simply agrees and shoves down any temptation to tell him all about Gusu and the cave and how much he wishes he could go back to his original world. They walk all the way to Tokyo talking quietly: they are surrounded by strangers, WWX doesn’t know much Japanese to begin with and he doesn’t want to be recognized as a foreigner.
uncle Jiang, along with some clothes to travel more comfortably, has sent him enough money to travel and direction to reach his home. The only thing WWX hopes is that nobody was injured in the earthquake and that no more waves can reach them before he can join them. What an unfortunate time to arrive. Aunt Yu would probably hate him in this reality too just because of that.
but as he trails behind double!LanZhan and enters Tokyo, WWX feels as if hell has found its way into the world, flames everywhere and nowhere to go. In the midst of chaos, however, double!LanZhan tries to keep him from fainting or shaking, talking about all the things he and his brother wish to work on as architects working for the government. Yet, WWX senses how worried he is for his twin brother and pities him as he tries to calm down, marveling at how much this version of Lan Zhan can talk. They walk towards the Jiang household as double!LanZhan chats about the university he’s supposed to work for the following month, wondering if it’s still intact after the catastrophe.
they reach the elegant house without any more troubles, relief spreading through their hearts as they notice it has endured little to no damage. Uncle Jiang scurries over them and immediately recognizes WWX bc of how much he resembles his mother and the man dotes on him from then on. He thanks double!LanZhan profusely, ignoring the resentful glances coming from his wife and the curious ones from his daughter. A kid roughly the same age as WWX approaches and takes the other’s only suitcase: a scowl on his face and hurry in his steps, telling WWX to keep up because “the world is crashing down if he hadn’t noticed”.
WWX doesn’t have time to properly thank double!LanZhan that he is urged inside by his new family.
1927:
(WWX is 21)
given the connections the Jiang family has in both countries, WWX and his step siblings are able to enjoy benefits others may only dream of, but the government is wary of foreigners and they need to act as good guests. This angers and stresses Jiang Cheng, his temper even worse than what WWX remembers, and he is even more rebellious than his new stepbrother. It’s WWX who needs to tone down the other’s snark at times, reminding him they cannot do as they please and that, even if others are jealous of their grades in university and overall position, they are still living in difficult times.
WWX knows this Jiang Cheng is a double ant that everything feels like a dream and nothing matters anymore, but if he pretends hard energy maybe he can stop feeling guilty for leaving his dear ones behind. But acknowledging this Jiang Cheng as the real one feels wrong and sometimes WWX distances himself from him, keeping his secrets for himself.
however, double!JiangCheng has seen his brother scream in his dreams, even waking him up in the middle of the night just to shake him from his horrible nightmares. Sometimes Wei Ying watches him in his sleep, when he hasn’t yet realized double!JiangCheng is awake, as checks for his breath. Other times he pressed a hand to his abdomen, as if checking for scars or injuries. He doesn’t know what it means, but he is willing to wait for the other to come around and they’ll him himself.
their sister YanLi has figured a way to be useful in a country wary of foreigners by studying to become a doctor and save lives. Their father is currently struggling at work because of the increasing tensions between the two countries and their mother keeps to herself in spite of everything.
WWX’s health deteriorates after he starts working, their supervisor suggesting him and his brother to keep a low profile just not to attract any unwanted attention on their family. Their work as engineers can convince the higher-ups to keep them close in case war were to strike again. But Jiang Cheng feels bad for working for a country constantly threatening his parent’s home country over mining rights and land ownership. He may love working on new aircrafts and test his limits, but he’s against using his energy and drive for appease someone else’s greed.
WWX, for the first time in his life, feels second to his brother, admiring his ability to distinguish from right and wrong while he himself cannot even tell dreams and reality apart. With a weakened body and a mind filled with memories of a world that doesn’t even exists, WWX convinces himself he’s in hell and this life is the punishment for being too greedy himself.
1929:
(WWX is 23, double!LWJ is 30)
tension is too strong for them to live in Tokyo, with Uncle Jiang forced to work for the government and scramble for solutions in order to keep his family safe in a secluded location in the mountains, in a hotel in the middle of nowhere. There, the elites enjoys the last days of peaceful times they will not see again for years to come.
WWX feels drained, dreaming of people he will either never see again or see every single day in the faces of strangers. Jiang Cheng convinces him to talk, even if only to ease his pain, but WWX cannot bring himself to reveal the whole truth. The only thing he feels like to share is that he has visions of another world and that maybe reincarnation is not as far fetched as it seems.
Jiang Cheng doesn’t really believe him, but he supports him and together with YanLi they try to make Wei Ying relax during their vacation on the mountains.
there, out of nowhere, WWX meets double!LanZhan and his brother: they meet on top of a hill as the wind rises and some of the two brothers’ musical scores fly away. WWX and his stepbrother catch them and bring them back as YanLi approaches the two musicians.
this time, WWX notice immediately something is wrong. Double!LanZhan is far less cheerful than what he remembers from their first encounter, while his brother seems to have lost his vision, music being his only comfort. The group exchanges pleasantries with the twins on top of the hill, until rain forces them all to seek refuge under some trees. WWX watches double!LanZhan closely and realizes these years apart must have been tough on him. He asks if double!LanHuan has lost his sight after the earthquake and the only thing double!LanZhan is able to do is nod, his eyes filled with tears.
Would it be so bad to befriend this other-LanZhan? Is it right for WWX to start a new life in hell with someone so compassionate and kind? Maybe that would be okay in the end, maybe they can be good friends and survive this world that is wary of them simply because of the greed of human kind. Then why does it feel wrong to let himself be loved by these people? Why does it feel like he’s betraying the ones he has left behind?
during their vacation, the two families get closer and they enjoy each other’s company. They talk in Japanese to not be stared by the other patrons and WWX wonders what happened in his world. If the Wens have crumbled down. If their name is synonymous with hatred and greed. If this is how any refugee would feel, isolated from the rest of the country while desperately trying to hold onto any familiar face and memory at hand.
Jiang Cheng doesn’t like to talk in another language and fear others might look down on him and seldom attracts attention by causing mayhem. But YanLi and even double!LanHuan help him come down from his stubborn antics and take him to long walks to calm down. This way, WWX and double!LanZhan are frequently left alone, because Wei Ying cannot walk for too long without feeling exhausted and so the other keeps him company.
since double!LanZhan is so under the weather and quiet, WWX takes it upon himself to entertain him and he spends their days chatting about the things he misses from home, what he would like to do if he were to live somewhere else, they airplanes he would like to make. He doesn’t talk about how much me misses flying on a sword, or how the wind fills under his clothes up in the air, or how much he would have loved to hold onto Lan Zhan among the stars at night.
WWX cries in front of double!LanZhan without noticing one day, missing the days at the Cloud Recesses when they were classmates and he used to pester the other boy. And only now, only now he understands what it was, what he wanted to convey with his antics. How much he wanted the other to notice him and pay attention to him. But the one rubbing a comforting hand up and down his spine now is not his Lan Zhan. Even if he’s just as kind and compassionate, just as quiet and brilliant, just as hurt and lonely.
they share a kiss under the trees of a meadow one afternoon and WWX feels like he’s either betraying the real Lan Zhan or this gentle young man who’s never done anything bad in his entire life. And he doesn’t know why double!LanZhan is crying as well as they kiss, but he’s too afraid to ask.
the following day Uncle Jiang calls the rest of his family back home and the Jiang siblings say their goodbyes to the twins hiding alone with their uncle on the mountain. Promising to meet each other again soon, even if WWX knows that’s most likely nothing but a well intentioned lie given the hardships they’re bound to face.
1930:
Lan Zhan:
(WWX is 24, double!LWJ is 31)
after meeting with the Jiang family, the twins try to retrieve their life as usual the moment they return in Tokyo for the winter. Their uncle notices double!LanZhan’s distress over departing from the young men he had met there, but his inquiry is fruitless since his nephew refuses to speak. The old man has noticed some changes in the younger twin over the course of a couple of years or so: his frequent migraines and tiredness, his laborious efforts to speak as if feverish and confused, his nights interrupted by nightmares more often than not.
even his brother has noticed the difference despite losing his vision in the fire at the imperial university seven years prior. His cheerful spirit is gone, his steps alternate different rhythms at times, and even his accent often doesn’t sound familiar to him. In his younger brother’s words “it’s almost as if two of me are residing in a single body”. But Lan Huan doesn’t know what to make of it, wishing he could look his brother in the eyes and see the truth for himself.
double!LanZhan, on the other hand, feels split in half ever since he has kissed Wei Ying. He remembers that day because his body has moved on its own, half of his mind lost in Wei Ying’s grey eyes while the other half (his own half) was trying to understand why the sudden urge to hold the boy tighter in his arms. He felt like someone had possessed him for those brief, stolen moments in time before leaving his body altogether the second Wei Ying has run away from him in the meadow.
unable to find an answer, feverish and tired with a migraine splitting his brain in half, double!LanZhan wanders around Tokyo trying to remember where the Jiang residence was. His feet walking him towards Wei Ying and Jiang Cheng’s room in the evening one day. Wei Ying is alone, sitting down by a table covered in drawings. Mesmerized, double!LanZhan watches from the window as Wei Ying traces the lines of faces and places, over an over again, as if he doesn’t want to forget what his imagination has shown him that night.
seeing what is depicted on the table, double!LanZhan’s migraine worsens and he collapses in the back garden, snow piling up on him. Wei Ying immediately notices and brings him inside, covering him in quilts to keep him warm. But Wei Ying is the warmest of all, his embrace like a balsam over double!LanZhan’s pulsing head as the younger tries to keep him warm by rubbing his arms over and over.
suddenly his head doesn’t hurt anymore and he can finally, finally let go. Let the other half take his place for now, just for a little while, as he takes a small nap in Wei Ying’s arms.
when he wakes up, Lan Zhan cries all of his tears.
he was finally able to reach Wei Ying, his Wei Ying, who was trapped in another world. The one Lan Zhan has been looking for ever since the end of the Sunshot Campaign, ever since Jiang Cheng himself told him of his demise. The one Lan Zhan was able to reach only after sacrificing his golden core to the immortal turned goddes BaoShan Sanren in front of a gate born from the efforts of some past demonic cultivator.
for two years he had tried to make his way through the veil between realities, his consciousness exhausted as if he had been swimming for far too long. The other-him, the man who shared his name and face, hosting his soul at the expenses of his own body for over two years. All because of Lan Zhan’s grief and greed, all because a goddess had promised him he could be reunited with the love of his life. But at what cost... at what cost indeed.
since two souls cannot reside in a single body, one of them had to die in order for Lan Zhan to meet his Wei Ying again. The moment WWX sees the other cry, he immediately recognizes him and tries to console him for the loss of his “other”. But LWJ cannot seem to feel any relief as he falls asleep once more in his arms.
Jiang Cheng:
Jiang Cheng enters the room and is baffled to find one of the twins in there, but seeing his brother crying over the man he decides to help them instead of calling the servants. Things are turning ugly in town for people like them and he doesn’t trust anyone anymore since YanLi got married and started working for the hospital, leaving the brothers alone.
in tears, Wei Ying tells him everything: of his dreams of another world, of the one he was destined to meet, of Lan Zhan finally remembering who he really was. He’s still fixated on this “past life” thing, uh? Jiang Cheng doesn’t really understand, but he knows the two man has grown fond of each other the previous summer and doesn’t really envy their fate.
he watches over them as they fall asleep in each other’s arms, having promised them to keep the servants from knowing about Lan Zhan’s presence in their house. That’s when he comes up with a plan and calls Lan Huan on the phone, briefly telling him that “his brother Lan Zhan has made a choice and that he cannot stay in Tokyo anymore”.
Lan Huan asks Jiang Cheng if his brother is there, to which the other only says “yes”. Is he with Wei Ying? Yes. Are they in love? Yes. Do they need to hide? “I can manage that for them.”
They meet the following morning at dawn, outside of Lan XiChen’s house to not attract the attention of the Jiang servants. Jiang Cheng will escort the two lovebirds to a cottage somewhere in the countryside, far away from society. When Lan Huan will succeed in convincing Lan QiRen to follow him there, they will receive them and arrange something.
Jiang Cheng May not believe his brother, but he knows things are getting dangerous in the country, especially for foreigners like them. Let alone someone like Wei Ying and his lover.
Wei WuXian:
While Lan Zhan is still feverish, Jiang Cheng and WWX take the train with the older man to the countryside. WWX feels bad for leaving, but Lan Zhan needs to rest away from the modern world for a while and he himself doesn’t feel well at all. Not with his lungs giving up on him any time he has to stiffen a cough and swallow his own blood with every breath. His weakened body may have caught something in the last few months, but he will not give up on Lan Zhan now.
They reach the cottage and Jiang Cheng immediately sends a letter to his sister, apologizing for what he’s about to do. They only have to wait a week for Lan Huan and Lan QiRen to arrive, but in the meantime Lan Zhan has regained enough energy to eat and stand up on his own. WWX asks him what is going on, and LWJ tells him that he’s currently trying to hold onto this body while simultaneously ruling over his original body in Gusu. He doesn’t want to fade away, but he fears slipping out of reach and leave WWX behind a second time.
when Lan QiRen sees them, he cannot deny what is in front of him: someone who is merely pretending to be his nephew greets him with a stoic face as he announces his intention to marry a man. Despite the initial shock, when Lan Huan has asked him to take him in the middle of nowhere in the countryside in winter, Lan QiRen has accepted to indulge him knowing Lan Zhan must have had something to do with it. But this in front of him is definitely not his nephew and this realization hurts more then knowing he is in love with a man.
Lan Huan, on the other hand, knows from his voice this is not his brother but cannot explain why. He’s filled with grief at the thought and not even his uncle can comfort him, the older man himself in pain for a loss he cannot comprehend.
WWX asks them to indulge them just this time, feeling like his life is getting closer and closer to its end, not knowing what else to do. Jiang Cheng comforts the two men as he tries to explain his reasons, that nobody will let them have even an ounce of joy in the world they’re forced to live in and that, if things will end up getting worse in the end, at least they’ll have this memory to look back to. He feels like a war is approaching, and no one can know what kind of world will greet them at the end of it.
Lan Zhan:
the day of his wedding he’s very nervous, having asked their hosts to simplify the traditional ceremony given the fact that Wei Ying and he are both men and there are no actual guest attending. They bow to the heavens and the earth, to their families, and then to each other. Their clothes are far less expensive or appropriate from the nuptial red they would have worn under different circumstances, yet Lan Zhan has never felt more adorned and rich, basking in Wei Ying’s love.
they spend their first night together whispering sweet nothings in each other’s ears, tired and happy as they have never been before.
Wei WuXian:
they stay at the cottage for months, receiving news from the outside world every now and then from Jiang Cheng and Lan Huan. He suspects his brother is keeping something to himself, ignoring his questions over the political situation altogether, but he doesn’t insist.
LWJ tells him stories of the Sunshot Campaign, of how he tried to save the weak, the women, the children and the innocent of the Wen Clan against the rest of the cultivation world. Of how he found a way to summon BaoShan Sanren through some scrolls he had found in Burial Mounds, where he thought WWX’s soul might have disappeared to. Of how he hadn’t even been able to say goodbye to his brother and the people he had saved in Yiling before signing a contract with the immortal.
WWX’s lungs are giving up on him but he tries to keep LWJ from noticing. YanLi comes to meet them one day and makes sure to cry for her brother only when they are finally alone, sensing his intention to keep his husband from knowing the truth. He knows LWJ cannot possibly keep holding onto two bodies at the same time: waking up in Yiling the moment he falls asleep in the cottage; then waking up with Wei Ying every morning the moment he falls asleep in Burial Mounds where he has decided to hide. Without a golden core, for as strong as someone like LWJ can be, he would die if he keeps crossing the veil, the gate between the two worlds.
the day after YanLi has left them alone, WWX spends his last day with his husband, making sure everything is perfect. he also sends letters to his family and thanks them for loving him. he extends his best wishes to the people who worked alongside him, helping him bring to fruition his dream to fly in the sky once more... even if he has never flown in this lifetime.
he’s very happy with his husband and wants to commit every second they spend together to heart. They make love for the last time before they both fall asleep together and dream of home.
he whispers “I wish you good luck” before falling asleep.
Lan Zhan:
he wakes up the next day and Wei Ying is gone. His body cold in his arms.
mad with grief, unable to believe a life without WWX can or should exist, he cries over his husband’s body and wishes he could die.
Lan Huan and Lan QiRen happen to visit that day and find him crestfallen and asking to be left alone to die. But they help him bury the body instead and take care of him. Lan QiRen suddenly feels terrible at the thought of leaving this boy all alone, whether he’s actually his nephew or not. Lan Huan convinces his brother to eat and rest, holding him for as long as it takes for him to calm down.
the following day, as the younger twin wakes up, he asks Lan Huan why they’re in a cottage in the countryside and what happened while he was asleep.
the actual LWJ, by falling asleep, not willing to wake up in a world where WWX doesn’t exists anymore, has allowed double!LanZhan to regain complete control over the body in the cottage. The twin wasn’t dead, just dormant, waiting for LWJ to let go of his body on his own.
waking up in the Burial Mounds, however, with no golden core and no Wei Ying is worse than anything LWJ has ever experienced. Having to survive WWX’s death not one, but two times is too much to handle... but a small kid has found his place in his arms while LWJ was sleeping. His beloved A-Yuan, one of the few Wen children he was able to save from the Lanling Jin’s clutches after the Sunshot Campaign.
as he takes in the sight of the child he considers his own, peacefully sleeping in his bed, LWJ finds the strength to say “just another day”. And then another and another and another again.
13 years later:
Mo XuanYu sacrifices his body for WWX and the first thing Wei Ying does in his new body is to ask the Lan juniors to bring him to Hanguan Jun.
but Lan Zhan is already there, following the juniors around after managing to reforming a golden core in just a little over ten years all on his own. The first thing he says to Wei Ying is “I still remember every day.”
and they begin to travel together for the rest of their life.
*
Now I need a fucking tissue.
[as you can see very little “conquering another world” type of quest because I didn’t like to think too hard. This is more like “what if before transmigrating WWX and LWJ lived somewhere else and got married?” But then I had to make it sad, uh? Fuck.]
[also, demonic-cultivator!LWJ anyone?]

𝐼'𝓁 𝓉𝒶𝓀𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝑒 𝒶𝓌𝒶𝓎…
𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑜 𝒶 𝓁𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝑜𝒻 𝑒𝓃𝒸𝒽𝒶𝓃𝓉𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉…

haha ^^

To all the curious ladies and gents out here, you may call me Imp.
Short, sweet and straight to the point. ;)

I am a lady in her twenties, with a strong penchant for roleplaying, writing, and drawing. The Holy Trinity if you will. I am a huge nerd and aesthetic lover boy - plain and simple. One of my main passions being video-games, illustrations, comics, live-action films, series and anime/cartoon shows, elements that shaped me during my years of growing up.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted my first ever ad on any website, and I was very much positively surprised by the amazing people that have reached out to me.
And since I am a greedy little mf, I wanted to fish for more partners. I’ve been roleplaying for a few years now and gradually gathered a good amount of experience throughout the years, but it’s always fun to meet and learn something new.

Name: Imp

Age: 27 years

Experience: 11 years

Preferences: 1:1 Roleplaying

Partner: Should be at least [18+], but I rather much prefer my counterpart to be 21 years or older

I am a very creative sort of individual with hundreds of ideas constantly occupying my little impish head. And I am very spontaneous too, so I can always adjust to a new setting, depending on how good and compelling the concept is.

Inspirations come from various sources and origins, be it a fandom (an already existing universe) or an original storyline. Please read through these paragraphs carefully before you decide to contact me! It’s important to avoid any misunderstanding later! And I would less likely respond to a message with the title ‘Hey, wanna rp?’, since I hadn’t had any good experiences with these said messages.  Thank you.

Communication: It’s certainly chill. You can talk to me about whatever occupies your mind since I am very open and always happy to listen to others. I also tend to be chatty, sharing a meme or a joke every now and to loosen up the mood. If you consider choosing me as your roleplaying partner, be sure to maintain a certain consistency. I have nothing against going on a longer break or even a hiatus, but the whole `ghosting stick´ is something I have no patience for. So if you’re unsure of upholding a stable, long term partnership, feel free to skim past this ad.

Plotting: Also very important to note! I am fairly quick when it comes to building new characters, concepts, premises, storylines, backstories, etc… This means there is certain flexibility available which allows me to adjust. Even though it is a hobby, I am still extremely passionate about good storytelling and interesting character arcs. I hope to meet someone who is just as enthusiastic and willing to put in the same amount of effort as I am. If it’s only me who’s pulling all the weight, I will lose interest fast, just to get it out there. Aside from that, I love going a little crazy with the possibilities and push things to their absolute limits. Of course within the boundaries of the given setting.

Pairing & Romance: Okay, right off the bat, I am a hopeless romantic through and through. I enjoy good and strong chemistry between characters just as much as the next, and this will be no exception. I prefer the good ol’ MxF pairing because I have more experience with this. But I also like playing a FxF dynamic or MxM. Everyone is welcome! When it comes to pairing itself, I want to make sure our creations are compatible, for I hate forcing characters into a romantic relationship for the sake of progression. A natural flow is what I am aiming for. ;)

Mature? Yes, very much so:  Adult and taboo topics are absolute. There’s no way around it because, in my stories, it is a running theme. The adult world is not easy to handle, but it’s definitely interesting to explore. That includes violence, cursing, shocking content, and all that dark stuff. My limits are few, safe for a couple of minor pet peeves that I have, I am pretty much open to some experimentation. When it comes to action-heavy scenes (be it an intimate situation between two characters or something on a cataclysmic scale), I won’t fade to black since I am not a huge fan of censoring. However, I will not force or push my partner into something they are not comfortable with. If you want to know the extent to how far I am willing to go, what sort of content or how detailed my writing will be, you can ask me directly. As for smut or lemons, whatever you call it, it will never be the focus of any of my roleplays, but I enjoy a good erotic scene with a lot of tension (if they are good).

Boundaries: Not a big fan of things like pedophilia, necrophilia, scat, bestiality, or those dreaded ‘futas’.

Inspirations and interests: There’s a pretty broad spectrum of what I deem interesting and inspirational. From fallen angels and demon/monster hunters, mages, criminal masterminds, cybernetically enhanced characters to futuristic dystopian settings, ancient kingdoms who have fallen against the test of time. All of it causes my heart to skip a beat. For original content, I’ll just give a brief list of bullet points of the general themes that fall in line with my current interests.

Writing: My texts are lengthy, detailed, and elaborate. Third-person is usually my preferred way of playing my character unless there’s a special case where an exception can be made. Word count usually fluctuates, though I have a standard form of 400-500+ words per response. It also highly depends on the given situation. I don’t want to set anything in stone… just to give you a basic idea of what you’re in for. I also expect my partner to have an at least adequate, if not decent grasp on basic grammar and punctuation.

Doubling: Yes, absolutely! If you are prone to doubling, chances are I might accept you as my partner straight away! Although I have nothing against the simple form of roleplaying, doubling is something I’ve done since my first time joining.

Characters: Very character-driven with the main focus being on interaction. I take my time writing characters and love nothing more than well-structured sheets that illustrate the vision of their creator. (But!) There’s no need to write 10-20 pages worth of character information, but I wouldn’t want to limit you either. As for the depiction of the given character, I won’t be as presumptuous as to tell you what sort of medium you can and cannot use. Face claims such as photos of real models, illustrations, 3D models, drawings or descriptions are all okay. As long as it gets its point across, I am happy.

Aversions: A few minor things that irritate me, or let’s say, aren’t really my style are one-liners, low effort responses and out of character behaviors in canon characters. We all have different takes on characters, which is totally fine by me since I basically do the same. Though if the character acts and behaves unlike their personality dictates, it will break the immersion. I hope to stay true to my own words when saying this. If it happens on my side, just let me know! Another pet peeve of mine is that one plot that has been done time and time again…. and I’ve grown quite jaded towards it, which is ‘supernaturals trying to fit into human society’ thing… I mean, I’m not opposed to borrowing from this idea, but for me, it grew old pretty fast. Speaking from experience.

Passione: My wish is to find a partner whom I can have a good time with and develop some chemistry. After all it is a fun hobby. We both should have fun with what we’re writing. Brainstorming among other things is one of my favorite things to do. To see how things unfold and how the characters react to the given situation is the highlight of any story.

FANDOM:

I love roleplaying fandoms just as much as I have a blast with building something original universes. Worldbuilding is my preferred cup of tea… but if we opt for something more fandom inspired, I highly welcome in on expanding on the given universe and add some original lore too!
Hellsing: Haven’t done that one before and I am curious as to how things play out, especially in such a dark and mystifying universe like Hellsing. There’s a lot of subject matter that we can delve into, plus I am a big fan of powerful vampire characters!
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: I would love you for this. No, seriously, I would. This fandom has sucked me into a downward spiral and there’s no possible chance of escaping this inescapable void. The absolute insanity of this franchise had me hooked from the second I laid eyes on it and I would be forever ecstatic if you’d message me on behalf of roleplaying Jojo. I have plenty of ideas for this one, just you wait.
Full Metal Alchemist: One of my favorite mangas and animes ever made. Recently I’ve begun rewatching FMA Brotherhood and felt a small hint of nostalgia swelling inside my blackened heart. I’d be open to play it, though it is not one of my top cravings at the moment.
Justice League / Young Justice / Justice League Dark: Huge DC fan, though I much prefer the animations and comics over the live-action cinematic. Let’s just say, I like the expansive and dynamic set of possibilities and deep, well-written cast. For instance Hellblazer Constantine or Raven.
Bayonetta: Need I say more? Let’s dance boys!
APH Hetalia: That includes the 2P version ;)
The Boys: Well.. the 2nd season came out. And I am simply stoked.

°°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°° °°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°°
ORIGINAL:

Supernatural: From angels to demons, from gods to monsters, I’ve seen it all and I absolutely love it. There can be any sort of creature or being involved, ranging from vampires to sirens to elves, you have it. However, I’ve never done something quite relating to angelic beings and their offspring before. I’ve read up on Nephilim and angels and found it rather fascinating, and it’s a different approach from the usual vampire vs werewolf cliche.

Crime and intrigue: I never stray too far from the supernatural path, but hell, there’s nothing better than some good old gritty mafia inspired stories with a complex cast of characters and a solid storyline.
Sci-fi and urban fantasy: So this could be basically anything from genetically engineered superhuman (superheroes / - villains) with a dark take on the human psyche, dismantling the idea of heroism and villainy. Or a world where mankind began their interstellar journey to colonize neighboring planets, galaxies before transcending their own humanity by merging themselves with deadly technology. I have a few plans for this…
Historical and mysterious setting: So one of my favorite eras is the Victorian time period, 30s - 40s - 80s, Renaissance or Ancient times during the rise of the Egyptian / Roman / Sumerian Empire. During these times, a dark discovery was made by man, learning that they were not alone in this world. In fact, they weren’t even the supreme race that destined themselves to dominate the world, for another race of humanoids have lied dormant deep beneath the earth, slumbering through the millennia only to be re-awakened by a cataclysmic event. These ancient humanoids are gods among men, superior in every way imaginable, and they have made it their mission to reclaim their right to rule. But their nature is not what most people think it is…
The idea: I have an idea for a plot, in which I can give you if you ask for it. It is however merely a suggestion for what we could write - not a mandatory thing. If you don’t like the idea, we can always figure stuff out and keep on home-brewing till we find something we both can enjoy. There’s no need to immediately end things if the first thing doesn’t really fire you up.

If you’re still here and haven’t fallen asleep reading through my loooong paragraphs, then I would like to thank you for bearing with me this far. I am looking forward to your messages.

Have a wonderful day!

Fullmetal Alchemist OG vs. Brotherhood: On Beginnings
Normally, I’ll be comparing OG episodes to the Brotherhood episodes that cover the same material. But to start off, I think I’d like to compare the very first episodes of each, and discuss how they function as introductions to their respective series.
Fullmetal Alchemist
OG’s first episode begins where the manga begins: in medias res, with the Elric brothers in Liore pursuing rumors of the Philosopher’s Stone.
This is a very slow, introspective episode; the action of the Liore storyline does not kick off until the next episode. Much of the episode is spent on exposition, primarily on alchemy. The characters take pains to explain the magic system’s mechanics and limitations, and we also get a look into what the exceptions made possible by the Philosopher’s Stone look like. As a first episode, this tells us: this is a fantasy series where the magic system is very rigorous and follows consistent rules, and exploring those rules will be an important part of the story.
We also learn a lot about our main characters, yet many of the details are still played close to the vest. One is only a suit of armor, and the other has prosthetic limbs. We can draw a clear connection to the opening flashback, but the details are still unclear. What, exactly, happened to them? Why, exactly, did they do this? What does it mean that human transmutation does this to people -- again, tying into the mechanics of the ‘verse. As a first episode, this tells us: we’ve tantalized you with a mystery, keep watching to learn the answer.
This episode also lays out its cards in terms of theme. Much of the episode is just spent on philosophy. Ed gives his views on religion and humanity, and Rose pushes back. Ed dismisses Rose’s faith, but Rose points out that he clearly doesn’t know all the answers if his science can’t resurrect the dead either. In the background, Cornello is manipulating everyone. This is a story about lies and truth, reality and ideals, faith and science. What is the answer? Keep watching, and maybe you’ll find out!
This is what hooked me. It effectively advertises what the story is going to be about, and those are things that interest me. It gives a lot of interesting exposition without feeling forced, and gives us just enough hints towards the characters and mysteries to keep me engaged. I want to know where this is going.
FMA: Brotherhood
Brotherhood opted to do something completely different for its first episode: an original story about Isaac McDougal, a rogue State Alchemist.
This is definitely an episode that assumes you are already familiar with Fullmetal Alchemist. It’s even more in-medias-res than OG’s first episode: This episode throws a ton of characters, philosophies, and conflicts at us that we have no rightful context for at this point in the story. The opening scene isn’t even about the main characters. We have no context for who Mustang or Isaac are or why it’s significant that they’re here and fighting each other. It’s not entirely clear whether Isaac is right or not or what he’s talking about -- the exposition side of things gets a little cramped in this action-packed episode. Kimblee gets a cameo, but he isn’t going to be relevant to the story until much later. The ending seems to make it clear that Bradley is evil, but it’s not clear what we’re supposed to do with this information. It’s all very interesting if you’re already in the know, but it’s a lot to take in for a new viewer.
I also have to ask why Mustang is even fighting this guy when they have the same goal. Is Mustang fighting him to maintain appearances, or due to a genuine moral disagreement? Is it not tragic that he has to make this decision? In doing so, in quelling revolution so he can keep waiting for his perfect moment, has he not become the very thing he hates? Or would giving into the anger and breaking ranks entirely just make him as mad as Isaac? What happens when the internal reformist meets the revolutionary? These are incredibly important questions that deserve time and attention, and ones that would add great depth and meaning to Mustang’s character and the narrative.
What do we actually get? “Ha ha, Mustang is grouchy because he got soaked! It’s funny!”
But none of that is what the episode is really about. What the episode is really about is cool fight scenes.
The Elric brothers are introduced fighting, and fighting by showing off how they can nosell the bad guy’s attacks because they’re so awesome. Pretty much the entire cast of alchemists run into Isaac at some point so we can see high-powered alchemist battles featuring cool moves. It’s capped off with SUPER ALCHEMY that SUMMONS A GLACIER that’s going to DESTROY THE PALACE! HIGH STAKES!!!
As a first episode, this tells us: the rules of the characters, and the setting, aren’t what’s going to be important here.
We’re no longer introduced to alchemy as a tool that fits into society, but as a cool powerset. And that, right there, is one of my big issues with Brotherhood: it’s not actually interested in making alchemy balanced and fitting it into the rest of the world. It’s just interested in using it for flashy magic battles.
I mean, “equivalent exchange” is bunk from the moment we see alchemy in action. Okay, so alchemy doesn’t violate conservation of matter (though we'll have to assume Central is just loaded with aqueducts and it was a very humid day for Isaac’s performances to obey that). But where is Isaac getting all the energy to freeze and boil huge amounts of water, a substance with notoriously high specific heat? Where is he getting the energy to make a giant moving glacier that regenerates itself when shelled by cannon fire? The original anime made addressing that question its central thesis. Brotherhood tells us shut up can’t we just enjoy how cool it looks?
The powers aren’t even very consistent. The first soldier Isaac freezes, he just needs to touch his arm and the whole body freezes immediately. When Isaac touches Ed’s arm, Ed is perfectly fine except it... rips his coat? How? I thought we were supposed to assume Isaac can only affect things he can directly touch... except in plenty of scenes he’s bursting water pipes from afar. Oops! So why does he need to use his own blood to make a stupidly fragile and inefficient weapon when he should be able to just freeze Ed from a distance? Why does the palace only start freezing when the glacier touches it, why couldn’t he have just frozen the place to begin with? Why does his blood spear dissolve when he dies, but the city-freezing alchemy is still going and needs to be disrupted by destroying the sigils? What exactly are his limitations here?
As later episodes are going to show, we aren’t supposed to be asking these questions. Brotherhood isn’t interested in answering them. It likes alchemy for the power, not the limitations.
Now, in and of itself, there’s nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of shows based around high power fight scenes, and that’s a perfectly valid genre. Giant Death Glacier is cool. But FMA keeps insisting that alchemy is not magic, that it does have rules and restrictions, equivalent exchange equivalent exchange equivalent exchange. And that’s why I write this down as a blunder. Brotherhood knows what it wants to be, but doesn’t seem able to admit to it. It’s false advertising.
Still, this isn’t objectively bad as a first episode, given the intended target audience and purpose. If you want to watch your favorite characters being cool and getting into high action magic battles, this definitely delivers, and it’s pretty representative of what the rest of the series is going to look like. But you do have to look at a guy pushing a giant regenerating glacier around a city while shouting “equivalent exchange!” and not lose your suspension of disbelief, and that’s not what I want out of stories. I like the idea of magic that really does function like a science, with limitations, checks, and balances, and I like stories that seriously grapple with those implications. Brotherhood’s first episode does not do this, and it’s pretty honest about the fact that the rest of the series won’t either.

A diehard Mangahood fan’s opinion on why YOU- YES, YOU- should watch FMA 2003
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Yes, those are his actual lines in this scene. These are the Netflix captions.)
2018 is off to a great start, with both FMA anime being back on Netflix! But ever since Brotherhood overtook 03 in popularity years ago, the FMA fandom has been so deeply divided on the subject of the two anime that even today, a lot of FMA fans who have never seen 03 vehemently refuse to watch it, simply because they heard from someone else that it’s bad.
As someone who’s been in the FMA fandom for about 9 years, could easily go on for hours about the endless problems with 03, and firmly believes the manga is better than both anime anyway, I think that this attitude is bullshit. While I understand that 03 is not everyone’s cup of tea for sure, I think refusing to even try it is a very narrow-minded approach that will only make you miss out. So, from one Mangahood fan to another, here’s my take on why YOU should give 03 a try now that it’s back on Netflix!
A whole 51 episodes + 1 movie worth of FMA content you haven’t seen yet! Come on, what better reason do you need? For those of you who are always craving more of those good good Elric boys and their merry band of friends, here’s a perfect opportunity to see them in all sorts of new situations, in all their fully animated and voiced glory! More fight scenes! More banter! More brotherly love! More Riza Hawkeye shooting things! More alchemy! It’s a deal you can’t miss.
Learn about the FMA fandom’s history! Ever wonder why Hohenheim seems to get so much more hate than he deserves, or why that one Ishvalan kid who got like 3 lines is sometimes called Rick? Have you ever found yourself in the deep reaches of DeviantArt or Google Images and found strange images of armor Al with tattoos, Rose with dark skin and pink bangs, an edgy-looking kid with similar clothes to Envy, or a low quality gif of Havoc crying and aggressively writing in a journal captioned with “I have all these feels”? Confused about the phrase “In those days, we believed that to be the world’s one, and only, truth”? Do you occasionally see content of the “Tringham brothers” or “Alfons Heiderich” and not understand who they are? Have you seen the “tiny miniskirts” clip on YouTube, but never been able to find it in context? Just where did the titular tumbleweed of International FMA Tumbleweed Appreciation Day come from, anyway?! All these questions and more can be answered by watching 03!
Beautiful music! A lot of great music came out of the 03 era, such as silly OST pieces like Pint-Size Alchemist or Favorite Daughter; Beautiful pieces like Equivalent Exchange or Memories; Haunting choruses like Ishbal or Dante; Fun and memorable theme songs FMA’s oldest banger, Melissa, or the Resembool Trio anthem, Hagane no Kokoro; And of course, the unforgettable masterpiece of a duet that spawned a legacy transcending years and languages, Bratja aka Brothers.
Talented voice actors! 03 had a slightly different voice cast from Brotherhood. For the dub, we’ve got the loveable and unforgettable Aaron Dismuke as Al- You might know him for his triumphant return in Brotherhood as young Hohenheim, but he was the original Alphonse Elric, when he was just 12 years old! Aside from that, we’ve got Chris Patton as Greed, Dameon Clarke as Scar, Monica Rial as Dante, and “sexy Greed” Troy Baker as Robocop himself, Frank Archer! And for the original Japanese version, there’s Nana Mizuki (Lan Fan in Brotherhood) as Wrath, Tooru Okawa as Roy, Megumi Toyoguchi as Winry, and Junichi Suwabe (perhaps best known as Victor Nikiforov and Aizawa Shouta) as Greed. And more!
Bonus content from the manga that wasn’t in Brotherhood! While Brotherhood initially rushed through the beginning of the plot under the assumption that we’ve all seen it 500 times already so let’s get to the new stuff, 03 actually took its time and included episodes based off the early stories, such as Youswell or the battle on the train. Not only that, but 03 also includes episodes based off some of the bonus chapters (Dog of the Military, the military festival, the one where Havoc went on a date with Catherine) and even some content from the light novels (The Tringham brothers, the haunted warehouse).
An interesting reimagining of FMA, with new perspectives explored, and new characters! It’s true that 03 has a very different plot and overall tone from Mangahood, and maybe it’s not for everyone, but why is the mere concept of being different seen as a bad thing? Think of it like a fanfiction, an interesting AU with its own distinct flavor. Who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy 03′s style! It features interesting (not always good, not always bad, but certainly interesting) new characters, such as Dante, the Tringham brothers, Wrath, Sloth, Frank Archer, Lujon and Lydia, and Rick and Leo. It also explores new possibilities and new directions that the manga didn’t. Ever wish Nina, Sheska, Lust, Rose, Martel, or Mason got more character development? Do you wonder what the state alchemist exam might be like? Do you think the homunculi simply being created by Father is too boring an origin story? Are your favorite superhero comic storylines the ones that involve alternate universes crossing over with each other? Ever wanted to see a cyborg shoot bullets out of his mouth? Are AMVs featuring Scar set to early 2000s emo music your niche but passionate hobby? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, 03 is the anime for you!
Also ngl, some of the fight scenes are really cool. Ed vs. Greed in particular... now THAT was some animation, woah. I love it.
In conclusion, if you’re a FMA fan and you haven’t seen 03 before, I highly recommend you check it out! After all, it can’t hurt- Either you’ll enjoy it and have a fun time with more FMA content, or you’ll learn for yourself that you don’t like it, and can simply stop watching. But you’ll never know until you try! Please, don’t listen to bitter, negative fans who only want to drive you away from something you might enjoy. (Ngl, most of them probably weren’t even around before Brotherhood came out anyway; I can tell you from experience that before Brotherhood got really popular, 03 was actually considered to be a really good anime, and had it not been so successful Brotherhood would never have even been created.) Open up to new possibilities, and give 03 a try!
#FMA#Fullmetal Alchemist#I'm just really excited 03 is back on Netflix because every time a big FMA fan tells me they've never seen 03 I get so sad#They're missing out on so much! And all because some people are nasty enough to tell others not to watch something they might like#The FMA fandom as a whole owes a lot to 03. It was what really drove the fandom back in the days before Brotherhood#And whether newer fans are aware of it or not it still does influence the fandom to some extent#The FMA fandom is over 15 years old and is a product of osmosis between both anime and the manga#I truly deeply believe that it's not possible to get the full FMA (fandom) experience without all 3 or at least both the anime#Sometimes I forget that not everyone's seen both#I got into it at a time when everyone had already seen 03 and now everyone was starting to watch Brotherhood as well#So pretty much nobody in the fandom hadn't seen 03 unless they were REALLY new#And had only seen the like... 15 or so episodes of Brotherhood that existed at the time#So sometimes big FMA fans will say they've never seen 03 and I'm just. ??? ??????? but... but how can you... what#But hasn't everyone seen 03??????? Don't you know the memes. THE MEMES. HOW CAN YOU LIKE... BE HERE AND NOT HAVE SEEN 03#Idk it just completely blindsides me sometimes#I want people to have the chance to Understand#And they can't do that if some fuckos who haven't even read the manga tell everyone not to watch 03 bc it's terrible#I mean yeah it kind of is terrible but also it is good#Because it's FMA#Anyway in conclusion the Mustang squad comedy filler eps shaped who I am as a person and also you can pry Aaron Dismuke from my dead hands

thoughtts on fullmetal alchemiste
ty cuzz!!!
god where to start um
The manga’s fucking perfect and I really wish more would be serialized as monthly 60-page chapters because reading that while it was coming out was infinitely more satisfying than ~19 pages a week!!!!! And it gives the creators so much more time to achieve what they need to!!
Story-wise I fell head over heals in love with it in 8th grade and it will always be one of the best stories I’ve ever read. If someone hasn’t gotten the chance to check it out yet….. im sorry i dont care who you are, If you like stories at all this one is a MUST. YOU GOTTA!!!! And most likely the manga is the best way to absorb it?? And Arakawa’s art is incredible like ofc.
And then theres the animes!!!!! which i got a LOTTA OPINIONS ON
For simplicity i’m gonna refer to the original anime as just “TOA” for simplicity.
first i’ll say, anybody who ever tells you that brotherhood is 100% better than TOA is a bastard. A foolish bastard.
Someone might think this is my nostalgia speaking but even recent first time watchers have agreed with me here:
First, Al’s dub voice is great in brotherhood but he’s my actual fucking son in TOA.
But more importantly:
The entire set up arc (like half of TOA/maybe 13 eps of brotherhood) is SIGNIFICANTLY better in TOA. There were serious pros and cons to the weird timing of TOA and the manga coming out simultaneously!!
The cons are pretty well-known. The anime caught up too fast and had to finish the story entirely differently than the manga (I’ll talk about that in a sec).
The pros re: following the manga storyline!! are that it had the chance to take it’s time on every introduction. We get to know each character in depth before things Really start to pop off and it’s done brilliantly, because they didn’t even know what was to come at that point, and they sure were not in a rush to get there.
The earlier parts of FMA are what have made it so iconic. The story of Al and Ed and their mother, every military character’s intro and Nina, Hughes, etc etc all made FMA what it was. Then the later parts just put all of the beautiful set up into motion & eventual collision.
This is why I highly recommend that people watch the first 20 or so episodes of TOA, and then start watching brotherhood from the SECOND episode or a little bit after that. Mostly BECAUSE ep 1 is just bad (most of all because it has a major spoiler IN ONE OF THE FIRST SHOTS that was never intended to be given away like that oh my god). But also because it’s good to see the difference in the other episodes, and since they are extremely concise it doesn’t take long to get through them at all. And then!!! you can just watch the rest of Brotherhood.
Anyway. That is a really strange way to do it that no one else has the energy for probably but I’ve been taking this route with my roommate who has never seen it!! and it has been really really good so far. I do gotta say this probably wont work if you havent watched it and you dont have anyone watching it with you that’s already seen it. That would probably be rather confusing so… might have to throw this theory out otherwise. i dont know i dont know…
Sorry that was a confusing explanation, but the point is, manga plot: first 20ish eps of TOA good, ep 8 or so on of brotherhood good.
The simplest option might be to just watch all of TOA and then Brotherhood if youre willing and want both stories?
TOA still has an interesting story that I enjoyed before I read the manga, but I gotta admit it’s not nearly as extravagant or impressive. I do still own conqueror of shambala on dvd though and i will never get rid of it.
If anyone is curious, my experience was TOA+shambala in 2007/8 (mostly dub) –> the manga until it ended –> kinda spiteful abt brotherhood because people shit talked TOA –> binged brotherhood (dub) in like 2014 and realized i was horribly wrong and that it was fucking beautiful save for the beginning.
I’m sure other people had great experiences however they first consumed the story, but tbh i cant imagine any other way because there are so many weird differences between all 3!!
Regarding the actual story of FMA, I cant say much of anything. It’s quite actually perfect and people really just gotta read/watch it and have their own experience with that.
Personal favorite characters: Alphonse (HAVE seriously considered naming a child after him… dont @ me), Ling yao (my old url was lingaring specifically because i love him so fucking much it hurts dude), Envy (not as much until i watched brotherhood for some reason?? brotherhood just made me fall in love with him as a character and he might be my actual fav character arc), and wow every single god damn female character. Like. damb. Maria, Olivier, Winry, Riza, Izumi like. holy shit. thanks Arakawa for my life.ANYWAY this got really long so I’m gonna stop while it’s an ok place to stop.
I could talk about specifics in the story a lot more but I will save that for another day.

Full Metal Alchemist Netflix!!! (spoilers ahead)
okay so yeah I’m not sure how they are gonna condense FMA into a successful movie and while there are probably going to be a lot of missing people/plotlines I am so psyched I don’t even care that.  I’m just gonna enjoy the good stuff and shrug at the rest.  here goes nothing:
-me, during the opening scene:  *fully expecting the Hogwarts Express to appear any second, with a flying Ford Anglia in its wake*
-this is a very crisply colored film so far and I love it
-MY BBY BOYS!!! HUGGING THEIR MOM!!! *valiantly tries not to cry already*
-yeah no I’m crying already
-dark and gloomy funeral OMG Ed and Al are holding hands to support each other I CAN’T
-LIL ALCHEMISTS AT WORK!
-I’m happy to see that Edward Elric is just as outrageously fashionable as always, that red coat is on POINT
-Ed stop getting your butt kicked and do some alchemy
-oh yeah, Ed proceeds to perform alchemy without a circle and takes out...whatever those alchemy critters are AND THERE IS AL MY SON THE SOUL IN THE SUIT OF ARMOR
-lol Ed seems way more chill than he is in the manga/anime, I mean he hasn’t flipped out about being short yet.  Still he is v. Enthusiastic and Quite Cute
-ED YOU ABSOLUTE dORK
-I CAN’T WITH HIM AND NEITHER CAN POOR AL LOL
-WOOOOOHOOO ROY MUSTANG AND RIZA HAWKEYE IN THE HOUSE
-WHO ARE YOU CALLING PUNY ok there is the Ed we all know and love
-wow the Homunculi look pretty accurate, which means Gluttony is extra ugh
-ok but seriously my favorite thing is how people assume that Al is the full metal alchemist because he is...all metal.  And Al is like no really.  not me
-AWWW my brother may be small but he has a big heart
-So I’m not sure why Winry isn’t a blonde but she is still very cute
-ED IS SO PASSIONATE AND SAD WHEN HE TALKS ABOUT GETTING AL’S BODY BACK :( and when he says he would do anything for Al and the camera focuses on Riza who looks like she could very well be saying I understand I would do anything for Mustang
-MAES HUGHES!!!!  I AM SO HAPPY AND SAD RIGHT NOW.  BECAUSE ED IS SO HAPPY TO SEE HIM AND THEY SMILE AND HUGHES IS A GOOD FRIEND AND dAMN IT I’M GONNA HAVE TO WATCH HIM DIE ALL OVER AGAIN WHAT THE HECK
-Ed is really freaking cute
-Winry scolding Ed about taking care of his metal arm and Ed apologizing I’M EXPLODING WITH HAPPY FLUTTERBYS AND RAINBOWS--AND SO IS MAES HUGHES LOOK AT THE SHIPPER ON DECK GRINNING
-wHERE IS BBY ELICIA AND WHY HASN’T HUGHES DRIVEN PEOPLE TO DISTRACTION WITH HIS PROUD PAPA ROUTINE??!
-oh she isn’t born yet... :/
-I have never been able to decide which is sadder, Al never being able to sleep and feeling alone or Ed having nightmares about what happened and feeling guilty
-that is a BEAUTIFUL dog and NINA IS SO CUTE AAHHH MY HEART IS GONNA BREAK LATER
-AL PLAYING WITH NINA OH MY HEART
-(tbh some of this plot is getting tangled up in my head, like is that how it went in the anime I don’t remember)
-*cries everytime Nina is onscreen*  AL AND WINRY PLAYING WITH HER *cries harder*
-there’s that Hogwart’s Express again
-Winry:  you were Nina’s favorite
Ed, proudly:  ah little kids like me
Winry:  yeah because you are tiny
THE BETRAYAL
-ED X WINRY OTP THEY ARE THE CUTEST
-I kind of adore the aesthetics of this movie.  I want Winry’s dress
-hey Dr. Marcoh.  Um bye Dr. Marcoh
-NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOO NINA!!!  WHYYY
-F*** YOU MR. TUCKER
-WHY ARE THERE BIRDS CHIRPING IN THE BACKGROUND THIS SCENE IS A TRAGEDY
-FURIOUS ED IS FURIOUS THERE IS MY HOT-TEMPERED GOOD-HEARTED SON
-AL:  SHUT UP OR I’LL BE THE ONE TO LOSE CONTROL
-play with me?  *cries forever and ever* my heart
-oh come on don’t show me Nina’s ball lying there alone never to be played with again
-tired mussy-haired Ed = the cutest
-MAES HUGHES YOU ARE TOO SWEET *CRIES FOREVER*
-Oh hi Lieutenant Ross!  (I just realized there are a LOT of people who don’t appear to be in this)
-YOU AND I ARE FRIENDS AAHHH HUGHES AND ROSS WORKING TO HELP ED AND HUGHES WON’T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER AND OH DRAT IT I CAN’T STAND TO SEE WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN SOON
-ED IS ALL SAD AND UPSET TILL HE SEES THAT AL IS DEPRESSED AND THEN HE TRIES TO CHEER UP HIS LIL BRO, EXCEPT AL WORRIES ALL HIS MEMORIES ARE FALSE AND AND
“TRUST ME”
“hOW CAN I TRUST ANYTHING, I’M HOLLOW!!!”
BROTHER FEELS AND ANGST WAIT NO AL OF COURSE ED IS YOUR BROTHER STOP FIGHTING :(
Al, when Ed is angrily punching him with his human fist: BROTHER USE YOUR RIGHT HAND YOU’LL INJURE YOUR LEFT HAND  *cries* HE STILL CARES ABOUT HIM
THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH (THANKS WINRY)
-”BROTHER IT HURTS”  *SCREAMS INTO THE VOID*  *FLINGS SELF INTO THE SUN
-ED’S HEAD BUMP AGAINST AL’S ARMOR *FLINGS SELF INTO THE SUN aGAIN*
-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MAES HUGHES NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I AM NOT READY FOR THIS NOOOOOO WHYYYYYYYY
NOT THE PHONEBOOTH
NOT THE PHOTO
NOT--ROY???  (sidenote:  if they’re gonna make it look like Roy did it why even introduce Maria Ross earlier?)
IN CONCLUSION I HATE EVERYTHING
-lies I’m not done yet I can go on I can make it through the rest of the movie
-NVM I CAN’T ED LOOKS SO BROKEN
..................*SIGHS*
-okay not sure where they are going with the story from here on out given them blaming Mustang but I am here for Riza Hawkeye and Ed working together to escape
-I AM CONFUSED
-ok is that real Roy or fake Roy ok this has to be fake Roy?  Because why would real Roy want it to look like he is killing loyal soldiers?  oh waiit wait WHAAAAAAATT
IT’S FAKE ROSS I GET IT THEY JUST SWITCHED A LOT OF THINGS AROUND
THERE IS A LOT MISSING FROM THE MOVIE
-CAN WE NOT KEEP SHOWING HUGHES’ DEATH OVER AND OVER I FREAKING CANNOT HANDLE THIS WHYYYY I’M CRYING
-UMMMM GLUTTONY IS FRICKING WEIRD (lol if Emma does her sassy recap I can’t wait to see her reaction to him)
-OKAY BUT CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW LUST SAYS ROY HAS A WEAK SPOT RIGHT AFTER HE STEPS IN FRONT OF RIZA TO PROTECT HER AND GETS INJURED AND WHILE SHE IS SAYING THIS RIZA IS SUPPORTING HIM IN HER ARMS OKAY THANKS
OTP RIGHT THERE MATES OTP
-OH okay Tucker has Al and Winry and I don’t even know what is happening anymore
-THERE IS LITERALLY SO MUCH MISSING FROM THIS.  I CAN’T BLAME THEM BECAUSE HOW DO YOU REALLY MOVIE AN ANIME BUT STILL
-what...what does Tucker want again?
-if Colonel Roy Mustang doesn’t get to destroy Lust like the badass he is then WHAT IS EVEN THE POINT
-*gets distracted from my mutterings because ROYAI*
-I’m...still not exactly sure is going on like General Hakura what? but ROY IS LEANING ON RIZA FOR SUPPORT AND THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL THING
-FIVE MINUTES LATER AND ROYAI STILL HANGING ON TO EACH OTHER
-OKAY THESE WEIRD GUMMY CREATURES ARE HIGHLY DISTURBING
-WHERE DID ENVY AND GLUTTONY GO?
-I AM V. CONFUSED
-goodbye Hakura you won’t be missed
-ah there is Envy
-actually Gluttony really didn’t need to show up again like ew
-RIZA NOT WANTING TO LEAVE ROY’S SIDE BUT FOLLOWING HIS ORDERS
-okay but why was Al all unconscious before and how did he wake up I missed that
-OH YEAH ALPHONSE PERFORMING ALCHEMY WITHOUT A TRANSMUTATION CIRCLE (look I realize it isn’t a good thing necessarily but it is very cool)
-wait Envy better not be dead just like that because um I really love how everything goes down in the anime
-BUT AT LEAST IT LOOKS LIKE MUSTANG’S GONNA DESTROY LUST
-*SHRIEKING* RIZA WAS GIVING OUT ORDERS LIKE A BADASS BUT HESITATES JUST A SECOND WHEN SHE SEES ROY’S BLOOD ON HER HAND AAAAAAAHHHH THEN SHE GETS BACK TO WORK AAAAAHHHH OTP OTP OTP
-OKAY THIS IS ALL A MESS STORY-WISE BUT I GOTTA FIND THE BRIGHT SPOTS SO ED SAVES ROY AND AL SAVES THEM BOTH AND ROY THROWING LUST’S WORDS BACK AT HER, PRETTY RAD
-AL PROTECTING THE OTHERS WITH HIS ARMOR BODY
-wait Gluttony is still alive...”Lust is dead” apparently he’s not too cut up about Envy though
-ALPHONSE!!!  MY HEART :(  POOR ED :(  AL YOU SWEETHEART “IF IT’S AT THE PRICE OF A LIFE, I’D RATHER STAY LIKE THIS”
-I’M SORRY I’M CRYING OVER HERE CRYING OVER ED TELLING AL HIS BODY HAS GROWN AND AL IS TALLER THAN ED AND LOOK THE BROTP IN THE ANIME IS MY FAVE THING EVER AND IT WAS NOT AS PRESENT IN THE MOVIE AS I WANTED BUT THE MOMENTS WHERE IT IS REALLY GET ME
-ROYAI ROYAI JUST HUG HIM GIRL OH GOSH THE LOOK BETWEEN THE TWO
-”get promoted and expose the truth behind the mystery” look is the Fuhrer a thing, like Greed never showed up, if they are doing a sequel they have stuff to work with but it so far off the original storyline at this point
-ED AND AL AND WINRY ARE THE CUTEST
-BYE BYE HOGWART’S EXPRESS
(BTW IF WE ARE DIVERTING FROM CANON WHY COULDN’T WE GET TO ACTUALLY SEE A ROYAI WEDDING?? ?)

Note
what anime recs do you have an anime n00b
under a read more because the list is long and we added extra commentary because we’re just that extra
anon i hope you’re happy exposing us for the weebs that we are
j’s sidenote: i usually read more manga but fortunately, some of the ones i read have anime!!
Shoujo
Cardcaptor Sakura
J: if you’re looking for a magical girl type of anime, this is it!!! kinomoto sakura is precious i hope you love her and her lesbian best friend tomoyo. please don’t watch the US dub “cardcaptors”…it’s an insult.
Yona of the Dawn / Akatsuki no Yona
J: sheltered princess gets kicked out of the castle, is involved in a prophecy, and then lots of action because why not? also i love yona
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun (GSNK) / Monthly Girl’s Nozaki-Kun
J: even if you say you’re an anime n00b, you probably have an understanding of shoujo tropes. too bad this breaks all the stereotypes!! it’ll make you laugh, i guarantee. characters are as clueless as hoshi is with technology and i’m sure all of them will never be in a relationship.
Ao Haru Ride / Blue Spring Ride
J: if GSNK breaks all the shoujo tropes, this one has all of them!!!! even so, it’s still pretty good- i bet you woozi can make a song or two from this anime (though i know his main muse will be full moon wo sagashite- also a good anime!)
Orange
J: slice-of-life anime about a group of friends who try to save one of their own. prepare tissues.
Ouran High School Host Club
J: if you love seventeen and their dynamic, you’ll love this too!! shoutout to my girl haruhi for dealing with all of the host club’s shit.
Your Lie in April
V: A male pianist and a female violinist play music together. also prepare tissues…you’ll understand the meaning of the anime title at the very last episode lol.
Ore Monogatari / My Love Story
J: this is…really…the purest love story…you just have to watch it, seriously…it’s as pure as seventeen adore u, mansae, and pretty u eras
Sports
Haikyuu!! (a personal fav of seventeen!)
J: be prepared to binge watch this because i know i did!! it’s a heartwarming story with lots of nicely-placed (and not forced) comedy. but i mean, it’s volleyball. **seungkwan endorses it**
Kuroko no Basuke
J: has the most cliche shit in a sports anime (i’ve watched like 5 sports anime so idk how accurate this statement is). friendship!!! teamwork!!! ridiculous basketball powers!!! but we can overcome everything when we work hard!!!
Yuuri On Ice!!!
J: ice skating anime. VERY GAY. no queerbaiting here- it’s GAY AS FUCK. you really have to admire and root for our main boy yuuri here though. he is truly a precious katsudon
Chihayafuru
J: at first glace, it MAY look like shoujo, but our main girl chihaya over here is 120% focused on karuta. because who needs boys who are in an unrequited love with you right?? still has the power of friendship and teamwork, which is always a must in sports anime!!
Shounen
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
J: personally picking this over the earlier version of FMA only because this follows more closely to the canon (manga) storyline. it really does have a wonderful storyline with rich characters and great development and you’ll feel satisfied with the story when you finish it
Hunter x Hunter (2011 but i have a soft spot for the older ver too)
J: this one has a little bit of everything: friendship, teamwork, sports, magical abilities, ~family~ (the main 4 are family don’t fight me on this), beautifully written characters, great storylines, a creepy ass clown,
Bungou Stray Dogs
J: um joshua personally recommended this so you should watch it. MC works in a detective agency that has staff with *abilities*. definitely lots of action. fun fact: the characters are named after famous people in literature and their abilities are named after their work! the first arc of season 2 is a personal favorite of mine
Code Geass
J: basically tells the story of a revolution against the current government. our main boy here, (sometimes douchey) lelouche pretty much leads the revolution accompanied by an ability he acquired- his geass. very mecha and has fighting robots action!!
Death Note
J: an even bigger douche than lelouche, light yagami is out to reform the current justice system by taking it upon himself to play god. someone give him an oscar for his performance honestly this bitch really knows how to act
My Hero Academy
V: high school students with super powers and they go to school to learn how to become heroes! easily became one of my favorite shounen anime. every student is precious except that one grape-looking dude
Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan
J: we have another hot-blooded male protagonist over here!!! my boy eren just has a simple dream- to kill all the titans that ever existed because they ruined his life!!! is it really too much to ask for?
One Punch Man
J: this follows the story of saitama, who just wants to be a hero and save people’s lives. he’s bored because, well, he’s overpowered. you’ll get a lot of laughs here, definitely
Tokyo Ghoul (the whole show censored the gore but you can find the uncensored version too)
V: Ghouls basically look like humans but their diet is limited to humans and coffee only (they can’t eat human food). The ghouls need to kill humans to eat but humans want to live so they fight back. It shows the story of both sides so you feel sorry for both of them lol…and so my boy kaneki just wanted to go on a date but his life turned upside down after that.
Noragami
J: we’re dealing with the supernatural this time! my girl hiyori suddenly becomes involved with the gods, which is kind of awesome but also awful. also the gods are so very human in the sense that they cause so much shit. you probably don’t want them ruling your planet or something
Parasyte: Maxim
J: in this world, there’s an organism/parasite that invades your body and takes over it, killing you instantly. sometimes, things don’t go as planned, and the parasite and the human have to coexist, guess what happens to our main character….
Psycho Pass
J: in a dystopian future, there’s a technology that actually predicts your probability of becoming a criminal/endangering humanity. that technology in itself is already the problem….
Moribito
V: set in a fantasy, historical Asia. my girl Balsa can easily beat up 1000 men while guarding a child prince. interesting plot, beautiful animation, and an amazing main character!!
D.Gray Man
J: hey there demons, it’s me, ya exorcist!!! demon-hunting adventures with lots of friendship in between and you’ll fall in love with these character i swear!! a+ humor as well honestly i love these kids
Blue Exorcist
V: hey there demons, it’s me, another exorcist! half-human/half-demon boy goes to school to learn how to become an exorcist to defeat demons and most importantly: Satan
Thriller
Erased (We recommend the live action too! it follows the manga more accurately. It’son Netflix)
J: murder mystery where our MC has this ability to rewind time and fix any bad things that were about to happen. one day, he gets transported back and ends up having to figure out on who murdered one of his classmates. really keeps you on the edge of your seat and the music is spot on!!
Another
J: in a seriously haunted classroom, there’s always one extra person who had died but is present with them, every year it’s someone different and the class has to figure out on who the dead one is before…bad things…
Terror In Resonance
V: two teenage boys commit terrorist attacks on Tokyo and they somehow get a girl involved in their crimes
Movies
Kimi no Na Wa
V: JunHao’s My I was inspired by this!!! I don’t want to spoil too much, you just have to watch it! beautiful animation, beautiful characters. the story makes a lot more sense if you watch it the second time.
Studio Ghibli movies
The Girl who Leapt Through Time

Genre : Happiness, otome, mullet reverse harem, magical boy
Episodes: 12
Studio: Brain’s Base
Yui is just your average run of the mill, beautiful, smart, sweet, kendo practicing high school girl capable of immediately accepting and adapting to any situation no matter how outlandish and one day she is swept away to a magical garden/high school full of god boys from various mythologies brought together by Zeus to develop a better understanding of mankind. That old story. We’ve all been in this exact situation a billion times right? It’s happen to me twice this week alone! You know how these things go, eventually we have to drown a pretty blond boy to avoid a Matrix type Ragnarok. Yawn.
I never know how to qualify these shows. They’re not exactly cute boys doing cute things, I mean they don’t really fall into the slice of life category at all. Technically you could call them reverse harems, I mean that is what they are but this title could fool you into thinking they are romantic storylines. The are not. The romance (if any) is usually completely secondary and only serves as an excuse to bring the characters together. It’s rarely central to the story and in this case was completely irrelevant to the main conflict.
If anything, you can recognize these shows by their standard dating sim adaptation structure which means we get separate mini storylines for every boy and their unabashed embrace of kitch. When done well these are pleasant, slightly manservicy comedies that will make you giggle, when they’re done badly they are annoying and infinitely stupid. When done very badly – the are comedy Gold! I’ll level with you, at this point I find it really hard to tell the difference.
nice hair…
All of this as just to explain that I have to be in a particular mood to review these types of shows. A mood I like to call: frantically rapturous. It’s achieved by eating absolutely nothing but processed sugar for 3 days then writing the post real quick before the crash comes. The diabetes is more than worth it.
One of my favorite commenters Dawnstorm, clued me into this series by showing me this clip:
Please note the hair transformation!
Needles to say, I immediately took the rest of the day off and proceeded to binge this. As you can see, the art style is what you would expect, and you shouldn’t look too closely at angles or distant characters, but the transformation sequences are phenomenal. Sadly, there are very few of these, most characters only get a brief one in the last episode. This is unfortunate as the god costumes are one of the greatest cinematic achievements of our age. The mere sight of them will touch you in ways you did not think possible. Try not to drink before one as getting wine up your nose can really burn.
The animation is sporadic at best. Essentially, characters are mostly stationary or going through slow minimal movements and suddenly there is a burst of action that immediately dies down. It’s not a bad way to disguise limited resources and I enjoyed the visuals as whole. Voice acting is competent although I never quite got use to Loki’s voice. The best part however, is the ED which features actual bad lip-synching from our boys complete with moody scenery and art school project desaturated colors. It was my everything.
I’m just gonna throw this screencap in…
In structure, Kamigami no Asobi follows the standard otome template pretty closely. It should be noted however that there wasn’t enough time to concentrate on all the boys. This means that while Baldr and Loki are personally established and get their own quite important storyline, Thor is largely ignored. We see kitty boy Anubis cameo through the show but I’m not sure main character Yui even knows who he is. As a result, the world feels a little fuller than your standard otome offering where the only characters that seem to exist are the main cast. Otherwise, the show is fairly stereotypical but deeply enjoyable. Dawnstorm had already sold it as one of the best offerings of the genre and although I am not yet well versed enough to make this type of sweeping statement, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The archetypical boys are all there, but they have been given just enough personality to be endearing and the narrative is careful to never take itself overly seriously. In fact, here’s Toth aptly describing the entire harem better than I ever could:
The lighthearted, obviously caricatural hand with which everyone has been drawn is a great way to keep things light and easygoing. I get annoyed when these silly little shows try to take themselves too seriously and give their shallow characters overdramatic characterizations. It was also nice to see the ditzy trope applied to the otherwise perfect prince character.
However, otome heroines are usually one step up from plant life in these things. They seem an after thought with little to know personality beyond nice and unable. Unable to do what? Anything. In this, Kamigami towers over the competition with Yui who while undeniably nice is capable, restrained and seems to have actual interests and motivations of her own. Her character gets sideline a bit in later episodes and she becomes much less interesting but for the first half at least she is a refreshingly down to earth and rational heroin. In fact, watching Yui react just like any normal reasonable person would when put in traditional otome situations had me cracking up the entire time. For my money she could have been even more forceful and self-reliant but I still loved Yui and that’s saying something under the circumstances.
a rare example of the femullet
Like I said, the romantic aspects are usually a surprisingly small part of these shows and Kamigami pushes that even further. Although there are brief mentioned of attraction and vying for Yui’s attention here and there, the emotional core of the show, and most of the driving force behind the ultimate plot point has absolutely nothing to do with her at all. I must say this was quite unexpected and very welcomed. I sort of wish this was a different type of show that would have explored the Norse Mythology retelling they were going for instead. I mean with all the pretty magical boys of course.
The fact that these boys are given a touch more personality and backstory beyond their tragic pasts and how much they love the MC is an important element to flesh out the story a bit. The bigger established mythologies that get hinted at also add a bit of depth. By creating much sturdier foundations for the narrative than these shows usually get, the jokes land much more cleanly and I found that I was laughing along with the show almost as often as I was laughing at it.

ombre – fancy!
I was about to end this post without even going into the most important part. The mullets. Look at these glorious mullets! These are epic. Loki even has this awesome gradient in his that makes me want to dye my hair red again. (I won’t – it was a huge pain getting it white, I’m not messing with it now). Maybe it’s because I’m also watching FMA at the moment and Ed is rocking how own impressive mullet when he lets his hair down, but I’m starting to associate the hairstyle with pretty boys. THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!
When did anime start to conspire to make me think mullets are attractive? I know this isn’t the first show to do it
Still the mullet king – Pixiv Id 79390
but it’s the first time even the heroine sports one….and I really dig it! Thankfully my hair isn’t quite long enough to copy the look or else I probably would have cut it like that and be really sad now. But honestly, why is anime doing this to me? What’s the end game here? Guys, I’m scared…

Favorite character: Thoth!!!
What this anime taught me: We must not get complacent in the fight against bad hairstyles
Adulthood has shown me that you really don’t need fun to have alcohol.

Every time Baldr is a clutz – point and laugh
Every time we see Melissa – take a sip
Every time Apollo is super eager – clap
Every time the blondes stick together – be suspicious
Every time Hades says misfortune – take a sip
Every time Thoht *corners* Yui – take a sip

Okay so I have seen that you are quite knowledgeable about FMA, so serious question here,,,,,, my datemate and I want to watch the series at some point, but we dont know if we should watch the 2003 or brotherhood??? What's thr difference and what one should we pick???? Help me Icha, you're my only hope D':
:OOOOO Well that’s an interesting question! I’m glad you came to me for that!
I’ll try to make it quickish, but long story short, it’s maybe better to watch Brotherhood first. But both anime are really good.
Long story (and spoilerfree)
-Fullmetal alchemist (2003) started when the manga was still on its early production, and couldn’t quite possible adapt it entierely without being a filler mess like many anime. Instead, Hiromu Arakawa, the author of the manga, came with an alternative storyline for the anime to use.
The begining of the anime is half close to the manga and half adapting the novels that came out around that time, before ultimately picking another direction. A lot of plot points are kept, but the antagonists’ purpose for exemple, is completely different, and the storyline takes a complete other direction. I’d say that the adapted material don’t go further volume 7 from the manga, but with also some set up for the original story they’d tell (and the adaptation of some bonus chapters.)
It’s a little darker, with some plotholes, but the story is quite interesting, with very interesting characters to remplace those they couldn’t adapt from the manga.
Honestly, for an original story, mostly based on an alternative story from the author, (while some of the major ideas are from Arakawa, it’s still the studio’s story) it holds on pretty well, even if it does feel in the end that maybe some stuff could have been pushed further.
This anime is 51 episodes long and there’s one more movie, called Conqueror of Shambala, which conclude the serie.
-Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009) came out while the manga was about to end. It therefore follows the story of the manga as close as possible. Although it’s important to notice that I think the animators thought that most people watching Brotherhood would have watched the 2003 anime, so they kinda sped up the begining of the manga. I personally had already watched 2003 and read the manga when I started Brotherhood, so I don’t know if it will be confusing or not, but as far as I know a lot of people who had only watched Brotherhood never complained about it being confusing, so it’s probably all good.
The very first episode is an adaptation of the storyline of a video game that isn’t canon, in order to not do what the 2003 anime did in details. Some characters’s introductions are therefore slightly different from their manga’s counterpart, since they moved it to the first Filler episode. It’s fair to notice tho that this Filler remains extremely In Character, so it’s not really bothering.
Otherwise, Brotherhood is mostly faithful to the manga’s storyline, they cut some scenes, but it holds on on its own quite well. (I’d just truly encourage that if you liked it, you take a look at the manga. Not that you have to have read the manga to enjoy it, but you may have some interests with the scenes missing from the anime.).
The anime is 64 episodes long and covers the full manga, from volume 1 to volume 27. It doesn’t cover the bonus chapters, but that’s not a waste per se. Some of the begining is sped up, some scenes are cut later on, but I think that it’s still a quite good watch even without knowing the manga. I’m just a little too attached to the details of the manga so I dare to mention it, but Brotherhood honestly holds on its own quite well.
The Major differences between the two are kinda obvious therefore: Every characters which appeared after Volume 7 are absent from the 2003 versions and some Anime only character have others storylines. The Antagonists’s goal is very different from one anime to the other, as for their natures and their reasons to be. The major characters therefore all have very different alternative endings.
And as it is, Brotherhood feels like the most complete storyline, as every details had been building to that ending, while it can feel sometimes that the 2003 anime put itself into plotholes by accidents.
Also the tone is really darker in 2003 and it can gets very heavy in the atmosphere of the full show, and Brotherhood is probably far more enjoyable to watch sometimes, has a better ballance.
However I’d still truly recommand the 2003′s story for later if you feel like to, which is in itself very interesting and which stays mostly faithful to the characters. The themes raised by the antagonists, which is therefore completely different from the Brotherhood anime, are very interesting and had left a huge impact on me when I first watched it a long time ago.
Still though, I think Brotherhood is the most complete story. And I’m completely biased because my favorite character appears only from volume 8 so therefore, only in Brotherhood. The story as it was meant to be is the one of Brotherhood, the characters are much more fleshed out, it was how it was meant to be.
In some ways, I think in some ways, watching 2003 first and then Brotherhood can be great, so you can still look at 2003 without seeing the plotholes as much as how Brotherhood highlight them.
But if you want just to have fun watching something while still getting a very interesting story, I’d recommand Brotherhood first. And if ever you liked it, you can still watch 2003, just by remembering that the Alternative storyline may have created some flaws you can’t go too hard on.
Conclusion, I’d totally say Brotherhood more than 2003, but give a chance to 2003 if you feel like it.
… And if I can be completely biased, watch Brotherhood at least because I love the manga even more and I love how those characters evolves in the manga/brotherhood canon. To me, Brotherhood is more compelling, honestly more enjoyable, and far more interesting.
So as a last word: Brotherhood. But if you like it, 2003 could be very fun to watch afterward.
(Watch Brotherhood.)
I hope it was helpful and I wish you two a good visioning if you end up watching them! :D I hope you guys will enjoy it ❤❤

11 Questions AKA Xen Screams About Royai, FMA, and Hellsing
I was tagged by @ladywiltshire Thanks. =)
RULES: Always post the rules. Answer the questions asked, then write 11 new ones. Tag 11 people to answer your questions, as well as the person who tagged you.
1. Do you remember your first time watching or reading Fullmetal Alchemist? What was your first impression? - I think I first got into the FMA manga around late 2002. I loved Ed and thought he was great and that, plus the whole human transmutation thing got me hooked. I loved the 03 anime in its early episodes and I was such a big fan that I went out and bought the sweatshirt that looks like Ed’s jacket and the shoes that look like his. I wore them as often as I could in my junior year of high school. About midway through the anime I started disliking it, though, and I went back to reading just the manga and ignored the anime. But then the manga started taking too long to update for me and about halfway through that, I discovered Hellsing and that held my obsession for the next eight or nine years, making me completely forget about FMA until I heard the manga ended. I remember looking up the last chapter of the manga and thinking it was an awesome way to end it, even though I hadn’t read any of the manga since the halfway point. lol It wasn’t until I saw some royai art on my dash in early 2016 that I decided to watch Brotherhood, and boy am I glad I did because my initial impression of that was “AHHHHHH I LOVE THIS WHERE HAVE I BEEN FOR THE PAST SEVEN YEARS???” And whoops, this ended up being about how I went through my FMA phases instead of taking about my initial experience... Sorry about that.
2. Tell us about The Fave™. - I am guessing all of your questions refer to FMA? So Roy Mustang. I could scream about him all day and never get bored. He’s great. The best. So is Riza. They have so many layers and are so interesting and dynamic. I love them so much it hurts. And out of any media I’m a fan of, I think they’re my absolute favorites. Integra Hellsing is a definite runner up, though. Of course, my fav favs are my OCs Xennariel and Loki, but since they’re not part of an existing thing yet, I can’t exactly rave about how great they are because that would just make me sound dumb.
3. Do you have a favorite fan work? Fanfics? Comics? - For FMA, I have a few fics I love and I’ve mentioned them before so I’m not going to link them again because I’m feeling very tired and lazy today. And honestly, any art depicting both Roy and Riza’s scars are my weakness. As for other fandoms, I loved the writer Thess. Her Hellsing works were amazing. I also liked and kept up with a Hellsing fancomic called And Shine Heaven Now by Sailor Ptah. That was cute. But that was like, a long time ago. Thess hasn’t written anything since like 2009 and that webcomic ended in like 2007 or so. So yeah, it’s been a long time since I’ve been an active part of the Hellsing fandom, and I kind of miss it. I miss seeing what new stuff people are producing for that series, but a lot of the fandom on Tumblr seems a little...iffy. I see so much art reposted with no credit and I cannot support people like that so I don’t really follow many Hellsing blogs. It’s kind of sad.
4. Hit me with an analysis/opinion you have on the series or characters! - Again, I’m guessing you’re talking FMA, so uh... Jeez, I wish I wasn’t so tired, it would make this question a whole lot easier. Um, I think I’ve already written all the analysis I can think of though, which isn’t much. I’ve talked about Roy’s fight with Lust before, I’ve talking about how he looks at Riza during his fight with Envy in the manga, I’ve talked about how Roy is not actually drunk when he calls Riza to give her flowers, contrary to what many people seem to think. It’s hard for me to come up with this sort of stuff when I’m not prompted. lol I need to see something in direct contradiction of what I think or just general discussion about a subject before I have a lot of opinions. xD
I guess I could talk about the couple of reasons why Roy and Riza having a relationship in the manga could possibly be a thing? I am 80% sure that despite how clearly they loved each other, Roy and Riza did not have anything going on between them in the series. However, there are some points I want to make that lean toward them actually being together in a romantic sense throughout the manga.
My main point is how comfortable they are around each other. A lot of people say there’s a lot of unresolved sexual or romantic tension between then throughout the series, but I honestly don’t see that. I see two people who clearly care about one another a great deal, who, with one look, make it obvious that they’re in love. But I don’t see them really pining for one another or anything like that. They act like an old married couple. They don’t seem to act like they want to kiss or jump each other desperately. Which, to me says that perhaps it’s because they already do. (This could be because I’m Ace, though, and I do not go looking for sexual implications in my OTPs, so maybe it just goes over my head all the time.)
Case in point, I knew my husband for ten years before we got married. In the first four years or so, we definitely were a couple of teenagers in love. We pined for one another when we couldn’t see each other. When in public, we stared at each other silently wishing we could go somewhere to be alone, we made out as often as possible. After about four or five years, the feeling of “I need to touch this person because I have a lot of pent up sexual and romantic tension for them” pretty much died down and we became very comfortable with each other. If we didn’t hug or kiss for a while, it was no big deal because we had each other and we knew we could arrange to be together to do those things whenever.
My point is, Roy and Riza act like that around each other, which tells me that perhaps the reason they aren’t desperate to touch one another all the time is because they already do. They’re used to intimacy so why would they itch to touch each other 24/7? If they were as in love as they appeared to be, but couldn’t be with each other, I think they’d show more signs of yearning for one another. This, of course, could be because we just don’t see it since they were not the focus of the series and their relationship had no huge importance to the story (and Arakawa has said that she does not include anything that doesn’t need to be in the story), but I feel like, even with the amount of time they had been together, if they had never touched each other or kissed or hugged or whatever, they’d have a hard time masking the want they would have for each other. Their comfort in each other’s presence could be more than just them having spent a long time together.
My other point is the Barry the Chopper scene where Roy gets super jealous of Barry touching Riza and prepares to burn him to a crisp. Riza stops him and seems absolutely unfazed by his jealousy, which could indicate that he’s acted like that multiple times in the past and she’s used to telling him to calm the hell down.
The last point isn’t exactly evidence, but Roy and Riza did change clothes in a car together and didn’t come out of that flustered or blushing or anything like they might have if they were unused to seeing each other in various states of undress. I mean, yeah, Roy learned his alchemy from her bare back, but it’s not like he saw anything else. I feel like he’d still get flustered if he saw her without a shirt on, even if it was just her back, because if they weren’t together, if they weren’t touching each other on a somewhat regular basis, he’s just a guy in love and he’d want to touch her and blush about it or get embarrassed easily about seeing her. Think about Ed in that scene where he was in the room when Winry was changing. He was flushed and embarrassed because he was a kid in love who had never touched the person he loved intimately before. So this one kind of goes back to my ‘comfortable with each other’ theory.
Also, that scene where Madame Christmas asks why Roy doesn’t just go play with Elizabeth. What kind of ‘play’ is she insinuating? And why does she know this? And why do the other girls think they have a ‘chance’ now that Elizabeth has been taken by another man. What has Roy been telling them about her?
Anyway, that’s all. Like I said, I am super tired and this analysis probably came out sounding weird or not convincing. Maybe I’ll write it up better sometime later.
5. Tell us about a project you have going on! Or if you don’t have one, maybe something you’ve always wanted to write or draw? - I am still working on my super long royai fanfic that I started in, like, June 2016. It chronicles the series from Roy and Riza’s viewpoint, starting from when they first meet, going through manga canon FMA, and finally ending with what happens post series. (Though I really dislike where it’s gone and I’ve been considering scrappy the last ten chapters and rewriting them...)
After that fic is finished, I plan to write another one that goes through the canon FMA manga storyline, only with Riza being an alchemist secretly the entire time and where she is also a candidate for sacrifice. (Though I may end up writing this one soon anyway just because I’m not liking Through Eyes of Flame anymore. I’ve lost a lot of reader so it’s just not worth it.)
And I also want to write a fic that takes place after canon FMA where evil demons from the world in my original novel end up finding a way into Amestris and plan to kill off all the humans so they can take over because they already tried that in their own world and failed. A couple of my OCs follow these demons and team up with Roy, Riza, the rest of team Mustang, and others from the military to stop the demons from killing everyone. I’m a little iffy about this one though because it would have OCs and I never know how well received OCs are in fics...
6. Favorite opening/ending number and why? - For FMA? I love Chemistry and Rain. The songs are catchy and the animations for those have some of my favorite things from all of the openings and endings.
7. Tell me about a scene that really touched your or made you realize something about yourself. - In FMA, I honestly don’t know. I lot of scenes touched me or made me feel something like Hughes’ burial and Nina’s whole experience and subsequent death. Riza getting her throat slit and Roy freaking out. Roy losing himself in the fight against Envy, but having enough sense of self when he looked at Riza to still be soft to her like usual. Lan Fan cutting off her damn arm just to save Ling. I don’t know if I learned anything about myself from any of that though, other than I realized how much I love royai and lingfan and what badasses they all are imo.
8. OTPs! Who are they? Why are you WEAK FOR THEM?? - RoyxRiza, of course. Royai is the OTP of OTPs. They don’t even need to touch on screen or even say anything for you to see that they care about each other deeply. Plus, I’m all about that ‘forbidden relationship’ trope. But even without that, they’ve been together a long time and get along so well. Their dynamic is wonderful and interesting and just pulls me in. They’re not just in love, they’re best friends and that’s the best relationship to have. They protect each other’s backs, Roy knows when Riza is upset without even needing to see her, they just know each other so well and work so well together.
Same with AlucardxIntegra from Hellsing. I like them for much the same reasons and they used to be my OTP of OTPs until I got back into FMA. They’re another battle couple, and they never touch in the series, but it’s heavily implied and obvious they have a thing for each other. And that fucking scene where he bows to her on the battlefield surrounded by dead and impaled bodies? I died, okay. I screamed and raved when that manga chapter came out and I still scream about it whenever I see it. They didn’t even touch, but it was the hottest thing. And then when Alucard comes back to her after 30 years, he says himself that he could have gone anywhere, but he chose to be there. And then she fucking bites her right ring finger (the finger used for wedding bands in Romania) and makes a ring out of blood on it and lets him drink from it? End me. It’s canon.
9. Funniest headcanon you’ve ever seen. Go! - Uhm... I don’t know, actually. I’ve never really seen many funny headcanons go around.
10. What spurred you to join the fandom?
- I got back into Royai and it was around when Royai week 2016 was happening and I had been looking to get back into writing around then too so I thought it would be a good thing to participate in to practice writing. A couple of people liked my stuff and started following me for that and then I found a bunch of authors from FFNet that I liked had Tumblrs, so I followed them and kept up with the writing and before I knew it, I was deep in the FMA/Royai fandom. lol
As for Hellsing, it just kind of happened. And much like with FMA, as soon as I started writing for it, I started getting people that would talk to me about stuff, so that was fun. I’m not an active participant in that fandom anymore, but I never really left it. My love for the series hasn’t diminished, I’m just more focused on FMA these days. Roy and Riza are easier to write for then Alucard and Integra.
11. Definitely the same question… have a fandom meltdown here and tell me why you love your fandom or show/comic so much! - We’ll start with the FMA manga because holy shit it’s amazing and has such good characters and good ships and AHHHHH! It’s such an inspiring piece of work. The thought that went into it, the research, the fucking detail. It’s incredible.Hellsing is one of the best mangas too, if you like gore and horror. Awesome characters, great ships, fantastic plot about killing vampire nazis. What’s not to love, honestly? Alucard is such a complex main character. And Integra is just boss. She is Queen. I highly recommend the manga and OVA. Stay away from the first anime aka the Gonzo anime. It was terrible, much like FMA 03 was terrible, but honestly, I’d rather watch FMA 03 than the first Hellsing anime. That’s how bad it was. lolAnd The Slayers is legit the funniest anime I have ever seen while simultaneously being one of the coolest. The magic system in that is flawless and amazing and the humor is top notch. Go watch the series if you haven’t already. Lina is the best. Also, the book that spoke to me the most was Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. Go read it and the nits prequel and then the sequel. It’s well worth it. I read it at a time in my life when I was very low emotionally and I saw myself in R and what he says and does is so relatable.

/// 𝕿𝖍𝖎𝖗𝖉 𝖙𝖎𝖒𝖊'𝖘 𝖆 𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖒 ///
Hello dear roleplayers.
For those who are curious, you may call me Imp.
I’ve been hit with a stroke of fate recently which pretty much drained me of my creativity. But I am slowly recovering… and I am looking for some distraction.

I’ve been roleplaying for a few years now and gradually gathered a good amount of experience throughout the years, but it’s always fun to meet and learn something new.
I have a few original ideas that I’m very interested in trying out. The concept will be posted down below.

Name: Imp

Age: 27 years

Experience: 11 years

Preferences: 1:1 Roleplaying

Partner: Should be at least [18+], but I rather much prefer my counterpart to be 21 years or older
Timezone: Important to note! I am from Poland, so my timezone might differ from yours.

I am a very creative sort of individual with hundreds of ideas constantly running through my impish mind.

Thank you.

°°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°° °°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°°

If it’s only me who’s pulling all the weight, I will lose interest fast, just to get it out there and I will have to end the correspondence. Had that recently and wasn’t a fan of it.

There’s no way around it because, if my world, it is a running theme.

Il Passione: My wish is to find a partner whom I can have a good time with and develop some chemistry. After all it is a fun hobby. We both should have fun with what we’re writing. Brainstorming among other things is one of my favorite things to do. To see how things unfold and how the characters react to the given situation is the highlight of any story. °°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°° °°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°°

FANDOM:

I love roleplaying fandoms just as much as I have a blast with building something original universes. Worldbuilding is my preferred cup of tea… but if we opt for something more fandom inspired, I highly welcome in on expanding on the given universe and add some original lore too! The one marked with a * will be the ones I am craving the most.
Hellsing*: Haven’t done that one before and I am curious as to how things play out, especially in such a dark and mystifying universe like Hellsing. There’s a lot of subject matter that we can delve into, plus I am a big fan of powerful vampire characters!
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure*: I would love you for this.
Justice League / Young Justice / Justice League Dark*: Huge DC fan, though I much prefer the animations and comics over the live-action cinematic.

°°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°° °°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°° ORIGINAL:
My ideas for a plot are versatile in which I can give you if you ask for it (Usually the ones that aren’t listed here). It is however merely a suggestion for what we could write - not a mandatory thing. If you don’t like the idea, we can always figure stuff out and keep on home-brewing till we find something we both can enjoy. There’s no need to immediately end things if the first thing doesn’t really fire you up. The one marked with a * will be the ones I am craving the most.
I will cross the oceans of time just to find you*: So this is something that began to fascinate me more and more as time went on. Our characters existing in our current modern timeline are on the verge of a discovery that could shape the very foundation of history. After they accidentally stumble upon an artefact / edifice unrelated to any culture they’ve seen before, their presence unwittingly activates a mechanism that transports them not only to a different place, but an entirely different timeline. Upon awakening, they find themselves in a mysterious setting filled with archaic cultures, wildlife and mythological figures they believed only to be possible in fairytales. It is now up to them to navigate themselves in a time where uncertainty and superstition was rampant. Where their knowledge from the future could either prove themselves as an advantage or a fatal flaw. Every decision and word will count, forcing you to rethink and carefully plan out your actions. They also come to learn that some of these ancient myths were in fact true, and that monsters as well as godly beings did once exist. Following that trail, they will be faced with the truth as to how and why they were able to travel through time and space. But more importantly, it is where they will find their soulmates, and it isn’t where or when they think they’d be.
Supernatural*: From angels to demons, from gods to monsters, I’ve seen it all and I absolutely love it.

I have a few plans for this…
Historical and mysterious setting*: So one of my favorite eras is the Victorian time period, 30s - 40s - 80s, Renaissance or Ancient times during the rise of the Egyptian / Roman / Sumerian Empire.

Come closer if you dare,

Call me Imp, a multidimensional being who has made it her mission to travel through various dimensions in order to post her humble request on this website. Nah… just kidding, but you may still call me Imp ;) I am a lady in her twenties who has a penchant for roleplaying, writing, and drawing. You know, the Holy Trinity. I am a huge nerd and aesthetic lover boy - plain and simple. One of my main passions is video-games, illustrating, comics, live-action films, series and anime/cartoon shows, something I grew up and eventually fell in love with.

A friend recommended me to post an ad on this website and so I eventually figured, why not give it a shot? It couldn’t be any worse than receiving no messages at all. I’ve been roleplaying for a few years now and gradually gathered a good amount of experience throughout the years, but it's always fun to meet and learn something new. Name: Imp Age: 27 years Experience: 11 years Preferences: 1:1 Roleplaying Partner: Should be at least [18+], but I rather much prefer my counterpart to be 21 years or older EMAIL: [email protected] I am a very creative sort of individual with hundreds of ideas constantly swarming through in my head. And I am very spontaneous too, so I can always adjust to a new setting, depending on how good and compelling the concept is.
Inspirations come from various sources and origins, be it a fandom (an already existing universe) or an original storyline. Please read through these paragraphs before you decide to contact me! It's important to avoid any misunderstanding later! And I would less likely respond to a message with the title ‘Hey, wanna rp?’, since I hadn’t had any good experiences with these said messages.  Thank you. °°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°° °°°·.°·..·°¯°·._.· ☥ ·._.·°¯°·.·° .·°°° Communication: It’s certainly chill. You can talk to me about whatever occupies your mind since I am very open and always happy to listen to others. I also tend to be chatty, sharing a meme every now and to loosen up the mood. I am fairly quick when it comes to building new characters, concepts, premises, storylines, backstories, etc… This means there is certain flexibility available which allows me to adjust more often than not. Even though this is a hobby, I am still extremely passionate about good storytelling and interesting character arcs. I hope to meet someone who is just as enthusiastic and willing to put in the same amount of effort as I am. If it’s only me who's pulling all the weight, I will lose interest fast, just to get it out there. A natural flow is what I am aiming for. ;) Mature? Yes, very mature:  Adult and taboo topics are absolute. There’s no way around it because, in my stories, it’s a running theme. The adult world is not easy to handle, but it’s interesting to explore.
