#RecessionProofBody (London) & @m_r_calisthenics (NYC) will be returning to @cfcl for the 3rd time with the “Above The Bar” International Calisthenics Seminars – now in our 6th consecutive year of collaboration!! The seminar will take place on Saturday, Feb 18th / 10am – 3pm with the coaches @lwt1976, @ranjit_bhachu, @slikric83 & @mfleitzout Split into two parts, the morning session will cover basic body weight exercises, (press ups, dips, pull ups & muscle ups) working on correct technique, ways to improve overall strength and ways to build up your reps. More intensive variations of each exercise will be demonstrated and broken down where participants will explore different ways of training with them. Challenging solo/group workouts will wrap up each instructional segment working with parallettes, parallel bars, Rings and high bar. After a lunch break the bodyweight movements are taken up a few notches with advanced gymnastic/body weight elements & exercises such as ‘Front Lever’, ‘Back Lever’ & ‘Handstand’ / ‘Handstand Push Ups’ are broken down with demonstrations through all the progressions needed to be worked on to achieving the full hold by mastering your own body weight. Afterwards the coaches will be able to answer any questions or concerns that you have regarding the days session & planning your own Calisthenics training plan. 3 REASONS WHY HIP MOBILITY IS IMPORTANT FOR HANDSTANDS ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1- The tale of the tight hip flexor and the lazy bum. Reciprocal inhibition simplified is the theory of when you contract a muscle, the opposite one must relax. So if your hip flexor is tight, your glute are very likely to not be active and the glutes are a major part of stabilisation in handstands. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2- Pelvic alignment is an essential. You need to comfortably understand how to place your pelvis and follow the alignment with your leg and foot. A neutral pelvis can be challenging to achieve if you have tightness in the hip. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3- Your core activation will be stronger if your hamstring can take a stretch. So many conditioning exercises such as leg raises, toe taps to the wrists, straddle hops and more involve the necessity for a flexible hamstring. Lockdown struggles. . I started the day visualising the planche progression workout I was going to have later on and I was feeling good. You know when you think, “yeah, I can do this. It’s gonna be great.” Then, after a full days work and the inevitable barrage of distractions that accompany a family of four living under extended lockdown conditions, my head was a garbled mess. . I’ve found I really need a clear head when training mentally demanding skills like the planche. Music often helps me focus, but it wasn’t doing enough this time around. After reaching peak frustration, I switched to reps and sets so that I could get some benefit from the workout. . #Repost @fit_addict_gem with @get_repost ・・・ Buzzing from today’s workout at @edc_crossfit_ This little pocket rocket @_annabelheap_ kept me on my toes but it was such a fun bodyweight workout (except the running -I could’ve died) we did 20 min pairs AMRAP 5 pull ups (I did strict) 7 push ups 9 box jumps 11 air squats 100m run together We got 13 and a half rounds(could’ve been 14 and a half, we don’t know if we moved a chip or not) Although I’m barely training my pull ups and push ups felt really great although Annabel carried me through all the leg stuff!
