PUBG Mobile, Lite version taken down from Google, Apple app stores
The popular mobile game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile along with the lighter version of the game have been pulled out from both Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India following the directive from the Indian government.
PUBG Mobile is no longer available to download for the Android and iOS users in the country.
However, the game can still be played for users who have it installed on their smartphones sans updates.
It is still unclear whether PUBG lovers will be able to use a VPN (virtual private network) and access the game like with TikTok. However, the government banned 2 VPN networks to access the Chinese short-video making app in the fresh app ban list.
PUBG was banned on an order by the Ministry of Information and Technology (MeitY), which also banned 117 other popular apps from China over national security concerns.
In June, 59 apps were banned including TikTok and another 47 apps were suspended in July.
The PUBG game, which has more than 600 million downloads and 50 million active players globally, has millions of users, especially young, in India.
PUBG Mobile saw a global revenue gain of $1.3 billion (roughly Rs 9,731 crore) in the first half of this year, bringing its lifetime collection to $3 billion (nearly Rs 22,457 crore) with the highest number of downloads in India which ranks at the top with 175 million installs as people stayed home owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns.
PUBG was not banned in India earlier as it is not entirely Chinese. The game has been created and managed by Bluehole which is a South Korean organisation.

No protests, but JEE-NEET aspirants from NE states want deferment
New Post has been published on http://www.asomlive.com/news/no-protests-but-jee-neet-aspirants-from-ne-states-want-deferment.html
No protests, but JEE-NEET aspirants from NE states want deferment
Despite there being no major protests, a section of candidates from the northeastern states want the deferment of the JEE-NEET examinations scheduled for next month.
In the eight northeastern states, 53,235 MBBS (Under Graduate) aspirants and 21,236 engineering (JEE-Main) candidates will sit for the examinations in 148 and 23 centres respectively. The JEE (Main) test will be held from September 1-6 and NEET examination on September 13.
Demanding postponement of the two examinations, many of the NEET and JEE (Main) candidates are worried about movement in the crowded examination centres and the risk of using public transport.
Shahidul Islam from Western Assam’s Barpeta said: “I belong to a rural area and my preparation has remained incomplete as due to the Covid-19 pandemic my tutor stopped coaching.
“I am also afraid about the risk of the spread of the virus in the examination centres. Many students will come from different districts and cities and they would face a lot of problems if the NEET examinations were held on September 13.”
Tushar Sarma, another NEET aspirant from Guwahati, said life is more precious than the examinations. “I and my friends are preparing ourselves with a lot of uncertainties and in an adverse environment,” Sarma said.
Santosh Roy, a JEE (Main) candidate in Agartala, said that it would be good if the examination was held after some time, but he would sit for the examination if it is held as scheduled.
With concerns over social distancing during travelling to the exam centres, another NEET candidate Sankar Das said that he is worried about going to the examination centres as there will be a lot of students, guardians and well-wishers. He said social distancing will not be maintained as many people are not taking the pandemic seriously.
Congress leaders in Guwahati said that as part of their all India programme, they will hold protests on Friday to oppose the government’s decision to hold the NEET, JEE exams during the pandemic.
The CPI-M backed Student Federation of India (SFI) leader Suleman Ali said they have not organised any protest in the region against the holding of the NEET, JEE exams.

Big B sings in musical film presented by AR Rahman
New Post has been published on http://www.asomlive.com/news/big-b-sings-in-musical-film-presented-by-ar-rahman.html
Big B sings in musical film presented by AR Rahman
Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman presents the upcoming musical film, Atkan Chatkan. Among the highlights is the fact that Amitabh Bachchan has sung a song in the soundtrack of the film composed by master percussionist Sivamani.
The film tells the story of a 12-year-old chai delivery boy and his dream.
“‘Atkan Chatkan’ is a story that is enriched with heart and hope, and we are finally sharing it with the world on a global platform. The rhythm of this kid’s dream will beat with a passion that it is a perfect example of hope,” Rahman said.
The protagonist is a 12-year-old chai delivery boy named Guddu, whose passion is to observe, listen and create new sounds. He finds rhythm in almost everything. Rising beyond his daily mundane life, he forms a band with three other street children.
Playing Guddu is gifted child pianist Lydian Nadhaswaram, who is also Rahman’s protege. The film will also star Sachin Chaudhary, Yash Rane, and Tamanna Dipak.
The music of the film is scored by the celebrated percussionist Shivamani. “The music in the film plays an integral part, but it’s the storyline that will give the audience a sense of hope. The friendship between the four kids and their passion to fulfil their dream is the rhythm that the world would want to dance to while watching the film. Hope and burning passion are the key takeaways,” said Shivamani.
Amitabh Bachchan, Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Runa Sivamani, and Uthara Unnikrishnan have sung the songs.
The film is written and directed by filmmaker Saumyy Shivhare, produced by Vishakha Singh, and is slated to release on Zee5 on September 5.

915 women caught crossing India-B'desh border
New Post has been published on http://www.asomlive.com/news/international-news/915-women-caught-crossing-india-bdesh-border.html
915 women caught crossing India-B'desh border
With human trafficking across the India-Bangladesh borders an area of major concern for authorities on both the sides, the BSF has caught 915 women while they were illegally crossing the borders between the two countries till mid-August this year.
Those arrested included women who tried to enter India as well as those who attempted to cross over to Bangladesh between January 1 and August 15 with the help of touts, data collated by the Ministry of Home Affairs reveals.
The numbers are significant since it could break the past few years’ record by the time 2020 ends.
As per an estimate, if the number of women caught during trafficking has crossed 900 in seven-and-a-half months, it could cross the 1,400-mark by the end of this year.
The number of women caught on the International Border between India and Bangladesh was 936 in 2019, a record 1,107 in 2018, and 572 in 2017.
Of the total 915 women apprehended on the borders this year, a maximum of 888 were caught from south Bengal, 14 from Tripura, six from Guwahati in Assam, four from north Bengal, two from Mizoram and Cachar, and one from Meghalaya.
India and Bangladesh share 4,096.7-km-long International Border in West Bengal (2,216.7 km), Assam (263 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Tripura (856 km), and Mizoram (318 km).
The report mentions that maximum women trafficking cases were registered from south Bengal, from where 850 women were caught while crossing over to Bangladesh or entering India. These figures were 620 in 2018 and 462 in 2017.
The data shows that Tripura has been in second position in women trafficking through India’s borders with Bangladesh in 2019, reporting 52 such cases. A total of 47 women were caught on the Tripura frontier in 2018 and 14 in 2017.
Guwahati in Assam was in second place in 2018 after south Bengal, reporting the arrest of 394 women while crossing the border. The figures were eight in 2019 and six in 2017.
Cases of women’s trafficking through the north Bengal frontier though has registered a drastic decline in the last few years. The figure was 87 in 2017, but went down to 39 in 2018, 12 in 2019 and only four till August 15 this year.
Only one case of a woman’s trafficking was registered till August 15 from Meghalaya frontier, from where 11 women were caught last year. Six women were caught from the said frontier in 2018 and three in 2017.
The lowest women trafficking cases were registered in Mizoram and Cachar in Assam. Only two women were caught from these areas till August 15 this year. The cases were three in 2019 and one in 2018. No similar case was registered in 2017.
The Border Security Force (BSF), which is mandated to guard the India-Bangladesh and India-Pakistan borders along with preventing cross-border crimes like human trafficking and smuggling of drugs, had rescued a Bangladeshi woman on August 18 from a gang and arrested a tout.
The woman from Gaya Banda district in Bangladesh was trafficked to India in July last year through the Benapole-Petrapole border along with one of her friends. The woman was carrying gold ornaments worth over Rs 60,000 when BSF troopers deployed at the Bhithari border outpost in West Bengal rescued her during a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs while she was returning to Bangladesh.
Officials posted on the India-Bangladesh border who dealt with the matter told IANS on the condition of anonymity that most women trafficked into India from Bangladesh are sold into sex rackets. After a few years, these women try to return to their native country after earning some money.
The official said gangs of touts operate on both sides of the international borders who facilitate the to and fro illegal entry of these women on the border. Some touts charge a minimum of Rs 1,000 for the job.

Tigress dies in Aurangabad zoo, swab sent for Covid-19 test
A six and half-year-old tigress, named Kareena, died at the Siddharth Garden Zoo here early on Wednesday morning after a kidney ailment, officials said.
Unwell for a few days, the tigress had stopped eating for the past 3-4 days and died around 5 a.m.
“As per the advisory of Central Zoo Authority three months ago, we have sent its swab samples for a Covid-19 test and the results are awaited,” a zoo official told media persons.
Born at the same zoo, Kareena was admitted to the veterinary hospital attached to the premises with top vets and Animal Husbandry Department teams overseeing the treatment.
After the big cat’s apparent loss of appetite, the opinion of experts from the College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences in Parbhani was also sought.
The zoo earlier had 12 tigers of which two were shifted to Mumbai’s Veermata Jijabai Udyan in February.
A four-year-old tigress named ‘Nadia’ had succumbed to Covid-19 in the Bronx Zoo in New York, while a white tigress had died in New Delhi zoo in late April but had tested negative.
In view of these developments, all the tigers at Siddharth Garden Zoo and their caretakers were also screened but found to be unaffected.

Natural phytochemicals in ashwagandha, giloy, tulsi can fight Covid: Patanjali
Ramdev’s Patanjali Research Institute (PRI), which has developed Coronil that has been claimed as a cure for Covid-19, has discovered that natural phytochemicals in ashwagandha, giloy and tulsi have the potential to combat Covid-19 and its pathogenicity.
The prescribed intervention includes ashwagandha, giloy, tulsi, anu taila and swasari ras. The research and trials were conducted at the NIMS University in Jaipur.
The Covid-19 infection is known to affect individuals with weak immunity more severely. “Therefore, enhancing immunity is definitely one of the ways the doctors across the globe have been using for treating COVID 19 cases,” according to a Patanjali report.
According to the report, to combat Covid-19 with Ayurveda, “we have screened close to 1,000 phytochemicals from more than 100 medicinal plants. We looked for their binding affinities to Covid-19 essential proteins and host protein interactions.”
“We have discovered that natural phytochemicals in ashwagandha, giloy, and tulsi have the potential to combat Covid-19 and its pathogenicity,” Patanjali said.
In reply to a questionnaire from the Ministry of Ayush, the Patanjali Research Institute, Haridwar, pointed out that the clinical trials for the Ayurvedic medicines were conducted and registered with the Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI) as per the guidelines of the Clinical Evaluation of Ayurvedic Interventions by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of Ayush.
The Patanjali reply signed by Acharya Balkrishna said the clinical trials were also communicated to the Director-General of the Council in an email by the Principal Investigator, Ganpat Devpura.

Congress attacks govt on Chinese incursions in Arunachal
New Post has been published on http://www.asomlive.com/news/congress-attacks-govt-on-chinese-incursions-in-arunachal.html
Congress attacks govt on Chinese incursions in Arunachal
Amid tension at the LAC in eastern Ladakh with China, the Congress has raised the issue of Chinese incursions in Arunachal Pradesh, taking a cue from BJP MP in the state Tapir Gao.
Addressing a press conference, Congress chief Manish Tewari quoted Tapir Gao as saying stated that “People’s Liberation Army, on both sides of the Subansiri river in the upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, have occupied territory on the Indian side of the McMahon Line.”
“According to him (Tapir Gao), the Chinese military has set up another base called new Majha, deeper in Indian territory. According to him, these aggressions are many km in the Indian territory. This isn’t the first time that Mr. Tapir Gao has made these revelations,” stated Tewari.
Congress played a clip of the Arunachal East MP while he was speaking in Lok Sabha that the Chinese have come up to Majha which has been an Indian army base in the past.
Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi cautioned the government to be more vigilant in the northeast and borders. “We demand that the Government of India doesn’t look at what’s happening in Arunachal Pradesh or Ladakh as isolated incidents. These are grand designs and this must be responded strongly,” stated Gogoi who’s MP from Assam.
Tewari alleged that ever since reports about Chinese aggression into Indian territory emerged, the NDA-BJP government has been walking the extra mile to downplay these reports and try to “obfuscate the information” on the ground.
Congress leaders stated that they know something isn’t right with regard to Galwan valley, Pangong Tso lake, hot springs area in the western sector, and with regard to Chinese intrusion in Naku La in the central sector.
“Facts continue to remain opaque on the eastern sector which is perhaps most disputed,” stated Tewari.
Congress stated that the party is highlighting the pattern of the Chinese army and how they’re gradually encroaching upon Indian territory throughout the LAC and the responsibility of protecting Indian territory solely lies with the government of India.

Arunachal Pradesh CM calls LAC Indo-Tibet border
New Post has been published on http://www.asomlive.com/news/arunachal-pradesh-cm-calls-lac-indo-tibet-border.html
Arunachal Pradesh CM calls LAC Indo-Tibet border
Amid the tension between India and China over the violent face-off in Ladakh, where 20 Indian soldiers had been killed 10 days ago, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, right here on Wednesday, termed the Line of Actual Control (LAC) as the “Indo-Tibet border”.
Posting the pictures of an army event within the state, Khandu tweeted, “The valour of Indian Army is what we counted ever since our Independence. Had an opportunity to interact with the brave jawans today at Bumla post on the Indo-Tibet border. Their josh (excitement) is at the highest level. We’re in safe hands in terms of our borders.”
The statement assumes significance as China has been in occupation of the autonomous region of Tibet, an area of around 2.5 million sq km, since 1951 and the Tibetan authorities has been in exile in India.
New Delhi refers its border with Tibet in Arunachal Pradesh as the LAC.
China disputes India’s sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh, which has an area of around 84,000 sq km and population of around 1.5 million. India’s boundaries had been defined by the British before Independence. But China occupied Aksai Chin in Jammu & Kashmir and raised dispute over the boundary of Arunachal Pradesh in the 1962 conflict with India.
Around 1,00,000 Tibetans (73 per cent of all Tibetans), including the Dalai Lama, their spiritual chief, are in exile in India.
However in the last few years, the central government seemed to be distancing itself from the community. In 2018, the government prohibited its officials and leaders from attending the events to mark the 60th anniversary of Tibetan exile.
The prohibition came on the eve of an informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. As a result, the Tibetan government in exile cancelled its events in New Delhi.

ASG appears in Delhi riots case after Monday's court clash
New Post has been published on http://www.asomlive.com/news/asg-appears-in-delhi-riots-case-after-mondays-court-clash.html
ASG appears in Delhi riots case after Monday's court clash
A day after the Delhi High Court witnessed a battle between counsels of the state and the central governments over representing the police, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Aman Lekhi, here on Tuesday, appraised the court that the controversy “has been sorted”.
“The controversy has been resolved. I will appear for the state. I had the instructions to appear in the case, which is why I appeared yesterday (on Monday). He (Rahul Mehra) must have realized it by now, and that’s why he is not present today (on Tuesday),” Lekhi told a single-judge Bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait.
The submission came while the court was hearing through video link an application by the Delhi Police, seeking cancellation of bail granted to Faisal Farooq, owner of Rajdhani School, in Delhi riots case.
Meanwhile, Farooq’s counsel told the court his client was arrested by the Delhi Police on Monday in connection with another case relating to the Delhi riots.
Following which, Justice Kait adjourned the matter for July 1 and asked Farooq’s counsel to file his reply before the next date of hearing.
Staying the bail granted to Farooq, the Bench on Monday said, “Till further order, if the respondent/accused, pursuant to order dated 20.06.2020, is still in custody, he shall not be released.”
On Monday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared for the Delhi Police. Simultaneously, Mehra too entered his appearance and submitted that the central government had no power to file the present petition.
On this, Mehta said he had received instructions from the central government to file the petition and to appear before this court. But it was disputed by Mehra. Then Mehta, submitted before the court that in such a situation he would like permission to withdraw his name from the case.
on June 20, a Delhi court had granted bail to Farooq saying the charge-sheet didn’t provide any evidence of terror funding or his alleged links with the ‘Pinjra Tod’ group, the Popular Front of India (PFI) and Muslim clerics.
The prima facie evidence suggested that he was not present at the spot at the time of the incident, it added.
In the charge-sheet filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Richa Parihar, the Delhi Police said Farooq visited Deoband on February 23, a day before the riots began in the Shiv Vihar and its neighboring areas.
“His (Farooq) call detail analysis and links with prominent members of the PFI, the Pinjra Tod group, the Jamia Coordination Committee, the Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz, and some other Muslim clerics, including Deoband, indicated the depth of the conspiracy,” the police said.
The case relates to riots that broke out on February 24 outside Shiv Vihar’s Rajdhani School where another school — DRP Convent — and a sweet shop was burnt and a man trapped inside the shop died. 18 people including Farooq were arrested in this regard.
“The rioters had camped inside and fired from the terrace of Rajdhani School. They also threw petrol bombs, acid, bricks, stones and other missiles using an improvised large iron catapult, installed for the purpose,” the police said.
According to the charge-sheet, Farooq had hatched a conspiracy to precipitate and aggravate riots in and around Rajdhani School. On his instruction, the adjacent, rival DRP Convent School, two2 parking lots, run by the other party, and the building of Anil Sweets were destroyed by the mob.
