let's meet at the confluence (2024)
The New Gallery's Billboard 208
January 27th - June 30th, 2024
let’s meet at the confluence is a suggestion to all Calgarians to consider the site where the Elbow flows into the Bow river and question how settler-colonial history is privileged in public and site specific art. The piece references the different histories of gathering at the confluence of the waters, histories that long predate Calgary, Alberta. Despite histories of Indigenous uses of the land, queer cruising, sex work, trade, the arrival of the railway, and the North West Mounted Police, the site of the confluence is often overlooked and rarely used as the great meeting place that it once was. The simple map and text invites an audience of all backgrounds, Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike, to make their way from the The New Gallery along the Bow river to the confluence viewpoint and to consider their proximity to one another. The text is in English and the word confluence is repeated in multiple languages including Blackfoot, Cantonese, and Cree to honour the artist’s Michif roots and the specific location of the billboard on Treaty 7 and in Chinatown, pointing to the history of many different people living along the rivers.

TATE MCRAE RELEASES HIGHLY ANTICIPATED THIRD ALBUM So Close To What
Tumblr media
Multi-platinum pop sensation Tate McRae releases her highly anticipated third album So Close To What via RCA Records. It represents the insurmountable moments in life, where the road ahead can at times feel endless and the destination non-existent. It’s an introspective exploration of self-discovery, love, and nostalgia. The album and its songs navigate the raw emotions of healing an old heart and the hesitations that come with falling in love again, the beautiful and sometimes harsh realities of what it means to be a woman and embracing a newfound confidence. Wrapped in irresistible pop production and unfiltered lyricism, So Close To What is written and produced with hitmakers Ryan Tedder, Grant Boutin, Amy Allen, Julia Michaels, and more.
The album features “Sports car” which exploded on social media with over 1M TikTok creations and is currently in the top 15 at US Pop Radio. It also includes the irresistible  “It’s ok I’m ok” which hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart and earned the star her highest-debuting song of her career on the Billboard Hot 100.
Today, Tate shares the official music video for her new song “Revolving door” which is directed by Aerin Moreno (Tyla, Tinashe) and choreographed by Robbie Blue (Charli XCX, Doechii.) The visual shows Tate stuck in this liminal space dancing continuously and unable to leave through any doors. It illustrates her relationship with the revolving door of her life and career when the destination feels undefined. Watch HERE.

Produced by Live Nation, the tour kicks off on March 18th with a series of headline shows and festival performances in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Brazil before heading to Europe in May. She’ll perform in Portugal, Spain, Ireland, France and more before wrapping the Europe/UK leg with new shows added in Nottingham, London, and Manchester this June. The run of new dates in North America will begin Friday, October 3 in Seattle, WA at Climate Pledge Arena and will include stops in new cities including Salt Lake City, Houston, Omaha, Raleigh, Palm Springs, and more. Tate will also be revisiting sold-out cities from earlier in the North America run, with second and third shows added in cities like Chicago, Boston, Detroit, New York, and Los Angeles.

This is quite a bit older (painted in c. 2021 iirc), The Comic will likely begin in Calgary, Alberta, mostly for geographic reasons. Nope, I know hardly anything about Calgary (learning tho), I’ve never been and I feel like that’s a travesty - maybe The Comic will inspire a pilgrimage.
So above is a rough approximation of what a post-nuclear Calgary would look like. The blast sites are random, I just playin around with concepts. Those Indigenous of this portion of Alberta are the Tsuu T’ina Nation.
I’ve spent a lot of time imagining a post-nuclear Yukon/Alberta/Alaska landscape and I know a lot of lore around PNW/Canada/Alaska so I’ll be leaning on it for a spring board.
If anyone knows much about the areas outside of AK, in terms of wild locations/ local lore to pull influence from - lmk! and you could see it illustrated!
Disclaimer: I don’t own fallout or any other games/products/lore surrounding the franchise, I am just a simple fan. I want to create this comic not for personal gain or commerce, just for the joy of creating a good story in a world I really enjoy. Thanks fam ✌🏻

Can't You Feel It? The Feeling is Everywhere!
Those are some of the words to David Foster’s theme song of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta. We were there and we felt it from our vantage point at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies where our daughter was a soloist and member of the Coca Cola World Chorus. Indeed we were inspired in that vast audience from around the world — all ready to cheer for their Olympic athlete who would…

Calgarians gathered in the Beltline on Saturday to protest high grocery prices and call for more stringent regulations on Canada's major grocery chains. Rally goers held up signs as they marched down 17 Avenue S.W. that read "Stop the grocery gouge!" and "It is a privilege to be wealthy. It is a right to be fed." The demonstration comes in the wake of a $500 million antitrust class action settlement paid by Loblaw Cos. Ltd. and its parent company George Weston Ltd. for their involvement in a bread price-fixing scheme. Maggy Wlodarczyk, chair of the Calgary chapter of the Alberta Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), who organized the rally, says people are sick and tired of paying high prices for food while grocery chains rake in massive profits.
