Long covid is a complicated thing. Mask up and take precautions to prevent covid so you don't have to learn about its effects the hard way.
Abstract
Introduction: This study investigated the quality of sleep in a sample of individuals from Southern Italy after the major waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the aim of evaluating how sleep patterns changed.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between March 2022 and January 2023 and involved adults who had a COVID-19 infection, who were invited to complete a self-administered online questionnaire.
Results: A total of 408 individuals participated in the survey. Overall, 66.4% had a reduction in social relations; 72.1% had an increase in the use of social media; and 86%, 77.2%, and 71.1% reported an extremely severe level of anxiety, stress, and depression, respectively. Almost all of the respondents had a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score (PSQI) ≥5, indicating poor sleep quality. Subjects with a severe or extremely severe depression score, a severe or extremely severe stress score, who had a job, and who had someone close who died because of a COVID-19 infection were more likely to have a high PSQI global score. The use of sleep medication in the past months was significantly higher in those who were older, who had a job, who had a COVID-19 infection in the first and second waves, who had someone close who died from COVID-19, and who did not have changes in social relationships during the pandemic. Moreover, participants with severe or extremely severe depression scores, with severe or extremely severe stress scores, who were women, and who were older had troubles staying awake while engaging in social activities during the past month.
Conclusion: The results bring to light the high prevalence of poor sleep quality among individuals who were infected with SARS-CoV-2. Future research is needed to understand whether these disturbances are still present in the endemic period and whether it is necessary to investigate further determinants that have affected and/or are affecting sleep quality.

I think your newest chapter of Sleep Study has hooked me on Ultraman… also WRITE WHAT YOUR HEART WANTS!!! Whatever you write I will be there to read!!
I am DELIGHTED to read this!
Ultraman is SUCH a gem. I'm biased, of course, as it's one of my comfort series. Honestly, how can you go wrong with people in monster suits suplexing one another in little model cities? Truly the perfect equation for any media. The braincells powering the lightbulb were really working overtime when they said "this is kinda Robotnik-coded."
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm working on chapter 5 of Sleep Study now, and hope to have it posted soon, as busy season is almost over. I've been very delayed, as on top of my 50hr/wk day job, I've also been gigging multiple days every weekend since mid-February. It's been great fun, but I am really looking forward to having some free time back to WRITE! :)
Sneak peek: the events of chapter 5 will necessitate a rating change. 👀

Current Mood: "May cause drowsiness."
"House, take me to your bed………" passes out in his arms, as he fireman carries me dramatically, with the epic music playing, slow motion, sexy walk, wait, actually this might be a dream, oh look he's shirtless now

I have a sleep study tonight and I am very anxious about it. I have had one before but it was 4 years ago and at a different clinic. sleep studies are so difficult and triggering for me because of trauma from institutionalization / psych abuse and medical abuse. it is really triggering to be watched while I sleep and not have the freedom to get upr leave.
I also wasn’t as disabled when I had my last one, I was not using AAC full time yet, and so I didn’t use it for the first one. I also was not using a wheelchair yet and had more functioning over all. these days I am constantly dysregulated and way less independent and need way more support. the clinic was actually quite hesitant to schedule me with out me having a caregiver there all night. the compromise is having my caregiver stay until I am ready to sleep.
I really hope the nurses are very kind and patient and accommodating because that makes all the difference. I am scared but I am strong and I can do it and in 24 hours it will be done and I may or may not have to have a 2nd one in 2 week's. I can do it. no one will take away my AAC. I will be safe.
If anyone has done sleep study as AAC user I would love to hear your experience and recommendations or if anyone has recommendations on how to prepare and make this less awful trauma wise.
I have a hard time using AAC when I wake up or am disoriented so feeling really anxious about the communication aspect during the parts I am alone.

Every few months I have this cycle where I’ll wake up at some ungodly hour like 3-4am and not be able to get back to sleep. It happens for a week or so then goes away and comes back a few months later. I’m still not sure why this happens, and it annoys me to no end. Hypnos has been a bit baffled too because this isn’t common apparently, the fact it happens cyclically. He’s been pushing me to do a sleep study to find out how to tackle it, and he’ll help where he can in the meantime. I’ve been meaning to get a sleep study done for years, and I definitely can’t now because I have too surgery to pay for. But I have been wondering more and more if it’s linked to some other health issue. Most Google results say stress (which tbf I am stressed 24/7) but I feel like that’s not it. If anyone has similar experiences or any idea what it could be, please do tell.

We're finally starting to look into my sleep issues. I'm waiting for my local hospital to have an oximeter available so we can see how my oxygen levels are while I sleep. If that has any weird results the next move will be a sleep study. Woooo progress (I'm so tired of tests)

So, in May, I saw a dietitian for my GERD. Since then, I changed my diet to match what I was told. That included cutting things out like pop and chocolate. I'm 5'1" and my starting weight was 232lbs. I'm currently down to 212lbs, so down 20lbs. The weight loss is a happy side effect of eating a GERD-friendly diet.
That same day I saw my dietitian, I saw a sleep doctor where I was told I need to get a gastric bypass done having no background except my weight and not understanding in the slightest how my current disabilities can impact sleep. To be clear, No, I do NOT need weight loss surgery and run away from any doctor who tells you thats your only option. I hope when I go in to get do my sleep study, that doctor realizes how stupid they were trying to scare me into a surgery I do not want nor need.
#also if i get told i have sleep apnea im fighting the diagnosis#because in the us you get an at-home sleep study first#if it comes back negative you need to get one done in the hospital#the doctor made it sound like everyone who gets a sleep study done has sleep apnea which sounds like a bogus statistic#i dont trust that doctor to be frank#disability#disabled#sleep study#tw weight loss#tw weight mention#weight loss#weight mention

would love to not have lists of things wrong with me.
i on average sleep 12-13 hours a day. sometimes more, sometimes less. but i have to really try to not sleep so late
i woke up at 3pm today. slept 15 hours. on extra bad days i have slept up to 18 hours
AND I’LL STILL BE TIRED
theres brain fog and the sleep to much headache and ive wasted my day
it fucks everything up and when im with my family there is such a sense of shame and i hate feeling like im rotting my life away
but also i struggle to fall asleep
i have been like this since middle school and its only gotten worse
everyone has told me you sleep less as you age. but here i am.
anyway i need to get a sleep study done but i dont want to because i dont want wires stuck to me and sleeping in a hospital is the last thing i want to do.
is my mental illnesses, is it hypersomnia is it a secret third thing. who knows

Dear Tumblr Diary...
This is a health entry...
I wrote a long, desperate letter to my new doctor detailing symptoms that I've been dealing with for about twenty years (give or take a couple years). Some of these symptoms, some other doctors had told me were panic attacks, but I talked to my therapist and she firmly disagreed.
My new doctor thinks I might be narcoleptic. I've mentioned my suspicions in the past, here on this blog. She ordered a sleep study. It sure would be cool to get any diagnosis so I could move forward with treatment.
Now, of course, I'm worried that they won't find ANYTHING wrong with me, and I will just continue to be this way with no explanation but what I've heard from doctors my entire life - That I'm an attention seeking narcissist. And if that's the case, why don't I have a higher opinion of myself?

Oh, it is remarkable how many people need sleep apnea treatment and either don't realize it or don't receive treatment. My dad has a CPAP machine but never got used to it so he sleeps in his recliner throughout the day. I shared a hotel room at a con with a friend and her boyfriend, and my first words to him in the morning were "You need to get a sleep study done." I literally heard gaps in his snoring while and was like "oh no, that's [bff's bf] not breathing again".
My snoring was never even that bad, and my sleep study came back with a minimum overnight oxygen level of 82%. That's so low, and I had no idea that was happening to me!!! To be clear: it wasn't anywhere near that low most of the night, but those brief periods of oxygen deprivation are no joke. CPAP literally gave me my life back and transformed my physical and mental health in a way I still struggle to wrap my head around.
i wonder how much of the "dads love taking naps in easy chairs and recliners" thing is actually sleep apnea

How Does REM Sleep Relate to the Sleep Study test?
REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is a key focus in the study test in Delhi NCR, crucial for understanding sleep health and diagnosing disorders. Here’s a brief look at its role:
1. Assessing Sleep Quality
REM sleep, accounting for 20–25% of adult sleep, is vital for emotional regulation, memory, and cognition. Sleep studies measure REM duration and quality to determine sleep efficiency. Poor REM can signal disrupted or low-quality sleep.
2. Diagnosing Disorders
Some sleep disorders are linked to REM abnormalities:
Narcolepsy: Involves rapid entry into REM, detected in sleep studies.
RBD: Lacks normal muscle paralysis during REM, leading to dream enactment.
Sleep Apnea: Causes fragmented REM, monitored to gauge severity.
3. Monitoring Cognitive Health and Treatments
REM impacts emotional and mental health. Sleep studies use REM patterns to evaluate conditions like anxiety and depression. They also track REM changes to assess treatment effectiveness.
REM sleep is crucial in sleep test in delhi for diagnosing sleep issues and ensuring overall health. It provides essential data for understanding how well we sleep and how our brains and bodies recover each night.
