Reason #2 why I made this AU.

VIRTUE:

🍏 In the intro post to this AU, I said there was a reason for her name... The reason is irony. And also thematic relevance.

🍏 Bullied becomes the bully. Dw she doesn't pick on Nexus. Just... Ignores him.

🍏 Natural hair is brown.

🍏 Threw away her glasses and dyed the underside of her hair green when she decided to renew herself.

🍏 I wanted to play into both her brutal nature and her bad eyesight, so I decided on a blunt weapon. But come her redemption (when she starts wearing glasses again), she switches to throwing knives.

🍏 The shortest between her, Nexus and Julie. Very smug once Z comes along.

🍏 That one groupmate who barely reacts in the GC and is assigned with reporting or the PPT last minute.

🍏 Would be skipping 24/7 if Julie didn't make it her personal mission to keep her on school grounds.

🍏 Hates the uniform, except for the skirt. Which she uses to hide a plethora of weapons.

I think about the fact Anya locking herself in the infirmary with Curly to kill herself and how it is in way reclaiming a space that was initially hers from Jimmy.

Not to mention how she must've been aware of Jimmy's obsession with Curly and the idea that he would lose his power over the both of them (based on the fact she likely thought they would never get the door open) and having to face the responsibility of two deaths being on his hands as acting captain.

It was her final act of agency stuck on that ship with her abuser and it says something that she chose to die next to Curly, despite his inaction, leaned against him as if they were just in a casual conversation before her death. Despite everything, Anya made the final decision on her own terms and it speaks volumes considering her treatment and demeanor up until that point.

adore the concept of calling DSMP a modern folk tale because it truly is

it has shifted and changed and grown beyond what it originally was and it’s even more beautiful for that. there’s very little that is considered the exact correct story, it’s more like many versions that can all somehow be simultaneously true.

lots of the content is lost to time or difficult to find but the story lives on despite that because of the love people have for it. for the way we are willing to pass on what we know and our own interpretations of it. for the preservation that so many have put into not letting it fade away forever. for the way many have allowed it to inspire their own creations going forward.

just like mythology or folk lore you don’t have to know every tiny detail or every version or even what exactly was said by every person to understand who these characters are and what they mean to you.

dsmp as a story is about love and loss and power and comedy and tragedy, just like any other great story, and as long as someone cares enough to speak of it, the story will never fully die.
