REBEL RIDGE (2024) Grade: C
For some reason I thought I was going to like it more. Plot was thin on good twists, action was here & there. Good acting from the leads helped. Ending was bland.

Whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I.
Born to a turbulent family on a Mississippi farm, James Earl Jones passed away today. He was ninety-three years old. Abandoned by his parents as a child and raised by a racist grandmother (although he later reconciled with his actor father and performed alongside him as an adult), the trauma of his childhood developed into a stutter that followed him through his primary school years – sometimes, his stutter was so debilitating, he could not speak at all. In high school, Jones found in an English teacher someone who found in him a talent for written expression, and encouraged him to write and recite poetry in class. He overcame his stutter by graduation, although the effects of it carried over for the remainder of his life.
Jones' most accomplished roles may have been on the Broadway stage, where he won three Tonys (twice winning Best Actor in a Play for originating the lead roles in 1969's The Great White Hope by Howard Sackler and 1987's Fences by August Wilson) and was considered one of the best Shakespearean actors of his time.
But his contributions to cinema left an impact on audiences, too. Jones received an Honorary Academy Award alongside makeup artist Dick Smith (1972's The Godfather, 1984's Amadeus) in 2011. From the end of Hollywood's Golden Age to the dawn of the summer Hollywood blockbuster in the 1970s to the present, Jones' presence – and his basso profundo voice – could scarcely be ignored. Though he could not sing like Paul Robeson nor had the looks of Sidney Poitier, his presence and command put him in league of both of his acting predecessors.
Ten of the films James Earl Jones appeared in, whether in-person or voice acting, follow (left-right, descending):
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) – directed by Stanley Kubrick; also starring Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, Keenan Wynn, and Slim Pickens
The Great White Hope (1970) – directed by Martin Ritt; also starring Jane Alexander, Chester Morris, Hal Holbrook Beah Richards, and Moses Gunn
Star Wars saga (1977-2019; A New Hope pictured) – multiple directors, as the voice of Darth Vader, also starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, David Prowse, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, and Frank Oz
Claudine (1974) – directed by John Berry; also starring Diahann Carroll, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, and Tamu Blackwell
Conan the Barbarian (1982) – directed by John Milius; also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sandahl Bergman, Ben Davidson, Cassandra Gaviola, Gerry Lopez, Mako, Valerie Quennessen, William Smith, and Max von Sydow
Coming to America series (1988 and 2021; original pictured) – multiple directors; also starring Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, John Amos, Madge Sinclair, Shari Headley, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, and KiKi Layne
The Hunt for Red October (1990) – directed by John McTiernan; also starring Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, and Sam Neill
The Sandlot (1993) – directed by David Mickey Evans; also staring Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Adams, Grant Gelt, Shane Obedzinski, Victor DiMattia, Denis Leary, and Karen Allen
The Lion King (1994) – directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, as the voice of Mufasa; also starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, Moira Kelly, Niketa Calame, Ernie Sabella, Nathan Lane, and Robert Guillaume, Rowan Atkinson, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, Jim Cummings, and Madge Sinclair
Field of Dreams (1989) – directed by Phil Alden Robinson; also starring Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, Ray Liotta, and Burt Lancaster

The U.S. Air Force (USAF) stealth bomber B-2 Spirit recently demonstrated a low-cost, air-released method to neutralize surface vessels during a QUICKSINK test in the Gulf of Mexico, near Eglin Air Base, Florida.
This capability is a response to an urgent need to quickly neutralize maritime threats in large expanses of the ocean around the world, USAF said in an official statement. No other details have been provided.
The QUICKSINK test, conducted in partnership with the U.S. Navy, involved a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber delivering the new capability as part of the second RIMPAC SINKEX exercise in July. The demonstration marks a fundamental advance in the naval warfare capabilities of the U.S. Air Force, highlighting a collaboration between the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), the U.S. Navy and industry partners.
Tumblr media
"This technology ensures that the United States can defend its interests, maintain freedom of action and take the initiative in large maritime areas," said Colonel Matthew Caspers, Director of the AFRL Ammunition Board.
The AFRL Ammunition Board, based at Eglin Air Base, is involved in an ongoing Marine Weapons Program together with the U.S. Navy.
The tests take place amid the increase in Iran-backed Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) reported that from December 2023 to mid-February 2024, container transport in the region decreased by 90%. Despite U.S. and European countermeasures, including Operation Prosperity Guardian and the European Union's ASPIDES mission, the Houthis carried out more than 43 attacks between November 19 and March 23, resulting in increased security costs and insurance premiums.

If I could ask Matty Healy just one question it would be what the hell is up with the Marine Corps sweatshirt? A) The Marine Corps is a cult, B) every man I've ever known who was or is a Marine is not someone I want to spend time with, and C) what about the military industrial complex and its social, political, economic, and environmental impacts? What's up with that, Matthew??

Rewatch of ONLY Murders In The Building to prepare for season 4 (VII)
<Part I> // <Part II> // <Part III> // <Part IIII> // <Part V> // <Part VI>
Block #OMITBRewatch if you don’t want to read notes that will have spoilers up to seasons 3. Just to make it clear, while quoting, I use M, O, C for the main characters.
Also I’m putting this under a read more because it gets long.
S3 E5
Joy talking at the beginning of the episode...
Mabel is hoping this is going to be a date.
O: "It's been a while since I dipped my quill in a woman's ink pot. Any new moves I should know about?" Mabel is stronger than any US Marine.
Sazz! ... :(
The apartment of Loretta is really cute.
Oh the date between Loretta and Oliver is really awkward.
So, Mabel is hoping that it was a date but would not have thought that Tobert would see it as one... I guess she would have liked to be talked to directly but would she had said yes?
Sazz is great... also who would hope that Charles would have been killed instead of Ben? Sure Charles is awkward but still...
And lmao, trigger warning for Jan being mentioned.
Oh... I forgot about Oliver losing his tooth...
Are they already high?
Sazz is great at understanding Charles...
It's cute how Loretta and Oliver had almost met.
O: "Well, that might be the 40 year old weed taking effect."
I think Johnathan bought drugs... it's kinda sad, iirc.
Aw :(
Charles lost all his joys.
But Mabel got lucky and Oliver did too...
Yeah I remember that one thing correctly... the connection between Loretta and Dickie
S3 E6
Howard is so dramatic.
It's probably Batman...
C: "Howard, I hate to break it to you, but ghosts aren't real." Tobert: "Oh, of course, they are." C: "Ho! Man in towel!" M: "Ys, Charles, I'm aware." C: "Spoiler alert." M: "No, not the correct usage of that whatsover." C: "Plot twist?" M: "Still no."
Oliver and Mabel are instantly worried about Charles after he told them about Joy leaving him.
It's cute how much Mabel misses the boys.
And Howard is still so dramatic.
Howard: "That's right. First rule of every horror movie. Never get seperated"
The fact that Charles took the fish with him...
The old director living in the theater.... okay I looked up what a mud room is and apparently it is an entry area? I will just assume that Oliver slept in a sitting bench.
Mabel is the only one who might actually know Krav Magah... and she is always ready to throw hands.
Love how KT and Howard bond over their unfulfilled dreams.
Charles having a talk with a fish and a rat is behind Oliver.
O: "You know the first rule of Theater?" Jerry: "Don't feed Hugh Jackman after midnight." O: "The other one." Jerry: "Oh! You fell in love with one of your actors."
Charles flushed away the fish...
Aw, Johnathan... :(
C: "Everybody knows you don't take a fish in the theater, you idiot!" my dude, the location is not the problem.
C: "President McKinley!"
The albino fellow, the has-been with the white hair.
KT is directing Howard!
Why didn't you use your jimmy keys?
All of that happened in 20 minutes.
No! Besties don't break up!
Curtains closed
"Because I'm the STAGE MANAGER that's why"
S3 E7
Uma is great, a little bit kleptomanic but great.
oh golly... Howard is walking his cat instead of Bunny walking her bird.
Also we haven't seen the bird this season... :/ Did Oliver's son take it?
Lol, Uma is so sarcastic it's beautiful.
... Charles is just paying for everyones food.
Theo helping Mabel to pack up... makes you wonder how much stuff she actually had in it.
I love that Theo and Mabel are friends.
And that they can bond over them being fans of various of Ben's works.
Cliff is stress dancing.
Oliver is missing his bestie.
Oliver, have you considered to ask Lester?
Matthew Broderick is his guy!
Aww :(
Theo is just being a sidekick for Mabel if needed and that is great.
Matthew: "When I did 'War Games', I taught myself to write code." O: "Incredible" Matthew: "For my role in 'Election', I started teaching high school and dating some students." O: *confused and stunned silence* "Okay..."
Dickie is a tragic person and he loved his brother... and also despised him a bit.
Holy shit...wait... is that Mel Brooks?
HOly shit! It is Mel Brooks!
Mel: "Oh, Oliver. You're fucked."
Mabel, monolouging and Theo in the background just "Well, I guess I won't know what is going on."
Lmao, Tobert and Theo meeting is fun. Mabel talked about Tobert to Theo and Tobert knows Theo from the podcast.
... Dickie invented CoBro!
Yes, that is a motive but why should Dickie murder his brother now after all this time?
Lmao, besties reunited!
Mabels lock-screen is her and the two old guys.
Everyone loves Gut Milk.
The earphones Uma is using are probably stolen too.
Dickie bought the hanky.
S3 E8
We learn that Loretta had a baby and gave it away...
Loretta is Dickie's mother.
So, it's also 'Sitzprobe' in englisch?
Mabel is crashing with Theo... which makes sense he has a big apartment.
She and Tobert are fine.
The band is still broken up...
Howard: "Mr. Putnam to the stage. Unless you want me to direct? Because I will do that." O: "Okay, he's out of control."
Loretta: "Who goes there?" Detective Williams, having an incredible entry: "NYPD, Motherfuckers!"
I think it's smart to invite Maxine.
Howard wants to be Mabel in his next life.
Howard: "So when the cops came, I rushed in here to shred my Papa Smurf-Skeletor slash-fic." I WOULD KILL to read that. Howard: "In the wrong hands, it could be misunderstood." I WILL PAY to read that!
Love how intense Howard is.
Charles did not manage to sneak in the interrogation. But I guess he sneaked in his phone...
Loretta and Oliver talk.
It's cute how Loretta tries to take Mabel off of Dickie's scent.
And I love that Detective Williams goes to watch Charles to see him either freak out or succeed.
I also like the split-screen montage.
YAY Charles!
M: "So, I assume you had no luck with Williams?" C: "Funny, isn't it? The way she doubts us." O: "Oh, she thinks we're fools." C: "But that's only because we're so skilled at playing them." M: "Weird flex, but okay."
They all made up!!
... gosh... Oliver can actually be honestly charming.
This scene is so intense....
And Loretta just doing what she thinks she has to do to save her son.
And another heart attack.

Description: Even as a boy growing up amid the green hills of rural Pennsylvania, Robert W. Black knew he was destined to become a Ranger. With their three-hundred-year history of peerless courage and independence of spirit, Rangers are a uniquely American brand of soldier, one foot in the military, one in the wilderness—and that is what fired Black’s imagination. In this searing, inspiring memoir, Black recounts how he devoted himself, body and soul, to his proud service as an elite U. S. Army Ranger in Korea and Vietnam—and what those years have taught him about himself, his country, and our future.Born at the start of the Great Depression, Black grew up on a farm at a time of great hardship but also tremendous national determination. He was a kid who toughened up fast, who learned the hard way to rely on his strength and his wits, who saw the country go to war with Germany and Japan and wept because he was too young to serve. As soon as the army would take him, Black enlisted. And as soon as he could muscle his way in, he became a Ranger. As a private first class in the 82d Airborne Division headquarters, Black withstood the humiliations of enlisted service in the peacetime brown-shoe army. When the Korean War began, he volunteered and trained to be an Airborne Ranger. In Korea, this young warrior, his mind and body bursting with the lusts of adolescence, grew up fast, literally in the line of fire. In clean, vivid prose, Black describes the hell of giving his all for a country that lacked the political resolve to give its all to a war against the North Koreans and the Chinese. If Korea was frustrating, Vietnam was maddening. The heart of this book is devoted to the years of action that Black saw in Long An Province starting in 1967. Black writes of the perplexity of collaborating with South Vietnamese officers whose culture and motives he never fully understood; he conjures up the sudden shock of the Tet Offensive and the daily horror of seeing fellow soldiers and innocent civilians slaughtered—sometimes by stray bullets, often by carelessness or treachery. Vietnam challenged everything Black had come to believe in and left him totally unprepared for the hostility he would face when he returned to a war-weary America. Written with extraordinary candor and passion, A Ranger Born is the memoir of a man who dedicated the best of his life to everything that is great and enduring about America. At once intimate in its revelations and universal in its themes, it is a book with profound relevance to our own troubled time in history. From the Hardcover edition

“Former Arnprior Man Sentenced,” Ottawa Journal. October 18, 1932. Page 12. ---- Four Tears in Penitentiary for John and Matthew O'Brien ---- Special to The Journal PEMBROKE, Ont, Oct. 17. - John [TOP] and Matthew O'Brien, Iately residents of Toronto, but formerly of Arnprior, who in the early morning a few weeks ago were caught robbing H. W. W. Gardner's store in Arnprior, with a truck reedy to carry away the goods, which they had piled at the back door, were sentenced by District Magistrate Chown at the court house here this afternoon.
Both pleaded guilty, and on the breaking and entering charge were sentenced to four years each in Portsmouth penitentiary, while each was also given a two-year sentence for breaking from the Arnprior lock-up in 1926, the sentences to run concurrently.
Investigation of the records of the brothers revealed that John had. six previous convictions to his credit, while Matthew had st least four. John O'Brien, then living in Arnprior, served a term in the county jail here 20 years ago.
The truck, which they brought to Arnprior for the recent attempted robbery, was rented in Toronto.
Crown Attorney H. B. Johnson. K. C. prosecuted. The men accepted quite stoically the sentences given them.
[AL: John O’Brien was 43, separated, an iron worker, a veteran with a shrapnel wound gained in 1918, and had only been in Pembroke Jail once - no other convictions were recorded on the prison register. He was convict #2819 and worked in the blacksmith shop at Kingston Penitentiary, where he took part in some protests in 1933 but was otherwise a well-conducted inmate. His brother Matthew or Marin was 32, a candy maker, and had been in the Toronto Jail Farm before. He worked in the kitchen at Kingston Penitentiary and was convict #2820. Both men were from Arnprior and both were released in July 1935.]

A) definitely the Oilers wags are more fashionable and glam than the Blackhawks girls. The hawks wags did better with their LBD style for their xmas party. Connor McDavid loves his fav shirt of all parties and photoshoots. Pens wags are very pushy with their merch, Kathy lazy madam and up to a police escort in Boston bcs M got Canadian police protection for NYE in Haliax. Sid has a flat cap like Tazer om Hossa's photoshoot, he is paranoid about press and privacy but Sid and Kath up to posing with Xtina Aguilera, posing with merch but no normal charity..at least M rolls up her sleeves and up to local soup kitchen and Canadian marine divers. Up for Sid diver to copy. Gold Connor and Connor lol exceptional yet normal guys

B) yes they have all horrible hairstyle split in the middle with funny partying a la 1990s. Junior World Championship is all about it. Just add horruble 1990s recent fashion trend.
C) anon, i dont venture into it but i have Insta photo for my planned post about female sport journos and it is a photo of a girl covering a college hockey. Vey revealing cloghes for the interview.not sure whether the girl is a profi journo and iam certain it is the samd girl posing as a fan with junior ,minors, ics hockey players. They chase them in two ways. The players so the girls after any level of the player, usually young and NHL prospects. It is not just Junior World Chmpionship level of Team Canada for the girls.
D) there is a coach that trains the Blackhawks. Not up to Tazer and his old memory lane and 10 more Blackhawks apostles. At least Tyler Johnson with shorter body has betrer body positioning and so pzck protection than Sam.Lafferty but still...20 coaches I know all instead of 1 and 0 capable player and GM.
E) Auston Matthews wants too much money but no results. A bunch of stars chasing individual records dont win Stanley Cup.
F) yes Team Czechia Juniors are better and better their new two way ice hockey system with very proactive defense is brilliant and effective. I guess their new system and trust given to the young players to read, react and play based on their own decision is a key. So dimensions away and once Marketa's system so laughed in Czechia is working as a framework with very capable coaches. Once offensive D man ex NHLer and still young goalie coach well. Their ex communist nepo despots have to stay in awe. I like the smart creative way of Stan Svoziil. He sets up a lot of passes as well as he acts as axis of their game. Their brain and very calm presence. They have very strong four formations on the top. Funny how Peter Mrazek's mental coach went on how knock a positive self esteem to zero on the day they started to win. All these young players and their development up to games played abroad. No stars but very capable juniors with battling spirit and actually smart quick players if chance and a system with trust, freedom of their actions and decisions (not 100 coaches) is given.
