Gaia
Gaia (also Gaea or Ge) is a primordial goddess and the personification of the Earth in Greek mythology. Gaia emerged from Chaos and is considered the supreme or mother goddess by immortals and mortals alike. All gods and goddesses are descended from her through her union with Uranus (Heaven) and Pontus (Sea). Her Roman equivalent is Terra Mater or Tellus Mater.
Gaia was the first overseer at the Oracle of Delphi and sometimes warned others of prophecies she had received. She helped Zeus overthrow his father, Cronus, and defeat the Titans. However, she soon turned against Zeus and sent her monstrous son, Typhon, after him.
Mother Goddess
According to Hesiod (c. 700 BCE) in his Theogony, Gaia emerged from Chaos (the great void) and gave birth to Uranus (Heaven), Ourea (Mountains), and Pontus (Sea). She married her son Uranus, and together they had the 12 Titans (Oceanus, Coeus, Crius, Hyperion, Iapetus, Theia, Rhea, Themis, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Tethys, and Cronus). Gaia also bore the three one-eyed Cyclopes (Brontes, Arges, and Steropes) and the three Hecatoncheires, the hundred-handed and fifty-headed Giants (Kottos, Gyes, and Briareus).
With Pontus, Gaia gave birth to the sea gods and goddesses Thaumas, Phorcys, Ceto, and Eurybia. All the notable gods and goddesses are descended from Gaia, and she is viewed as a mother or supreme goddess.

Mina paced before him, still not sure of how it happened or how she could explain it. If Cronus had seen any fault in what she’d done, he would’ve pulverized her on the spot, but she was still there. “It’s Perseus,” she began without looking at him, still moving. No one visited the temple these days, and so she felt she could speak freely. “It was simple conversation, perhaps he remembered my face…” she finally looked at Coleman. “I need your help.”

What would Michael's codename be if he joined the Syndicate? I heard you're fond of the concept and want your thoughts on that
ahhh, i've thought about this a bit! i'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to greek mythology and stories, honestly, because i was always the 'egypt kid' but i have a few ideas!
- coeus: greek titan of inquisitive minds. i feel like this is the most fitting of all my options because like. that's what c!michael represents to me. someone who is searching for answers, who has questions and wants to know the truth.
- hermes: my second choice because of the connection to messages and the fact that c!michael is broadcasting his thoughts, his message about serenity across the server. plus i really enjoy the imagery of hermes combined with michael's aesthetic.
- any of the seers: i'm not too familiar here but i'm thinking someone like theoclymenus or calchas or maybe even asbolus

Why Does Icarus sound Like it has K in it?
it’s because Icarus isn’t spelt with a C, it’s spelt “Ikarios”, that’s the greek name for him, it’s similar to Kronos (Cronus) or Koios (Coeus)

[On the exploration of homo-sapiens' obsession with vaginal intercourse.]
A short drabble I wrote about Coeus' disappointing first time (bad enough not to try again for almost 20 years lol). It finishes a bit abruptly but I do like most of it enough to share.
cw: body dysmorphia, overly medical language, explicit description of bad sex, kinda cringe superiority complex
He squeezed his nearly non-existent breasts, nascent mounds looking almost out of place on a body stripped of every last gram of baby fat; sharp bones jutting from taut looking-skin as if it was simply pulled over the frame of his skeleton. No hips, no ass, only the ever so slight amount of fatty tissue under his navel could hint at the sex he was thrusted into; nature trying her best to shield what society deemed to be the fair gender’s most valuable asset. She had yet to lose against him then, his distaste for everything brought by a simple assessment at birth over some parts failling to migrate or develops not yet linked to his biology; the discomfort with having his pitiful chest fondled like this simply chalked up to a shame he didn’t really feel about their size. Surely, the gesture would feel less silly, less thoughtlessly pornographic had they been bigger, even though he had never wished so before despite being likened to an ironing board a few time as an attempt to rouse something -humor, or perhaps inferiority- out of the cold, flippant teenager who had joined the university. No worries, surely they’d come in, had they say as if to wash themselves of any eventual hurt they might have caused with this teasing remarks, as if it wasn’t the reason they were cast in the first place. To humble him, shoot this bratty little girl down a peg.
He hoped they didn’t. He had started bleeding long ago, though infrequently: surely his body would not go through a sudden spurt and finally give him the womanly figure expected of his chromosomes.
If it was going to, it hadn’t decided to kick in as he dipped his toes into his twenties, finding them no different from his adolescence save from a newfound curiosity that arose with older colleagues talking amongst them, looking almost startled when remembering his presence in the lab. Apologetic. Embarrassed. As if, despite his now long gangly limbs, he remained a teenage girl, not to be spoilt by crude topics; enough for a few to reject him, perhaps finding in the age difference a good excuse to avoid fucking the ugly chick. He was no stranger to the idea that he was far from the feminine ideal of beauty, with the beak-like nose standing in the middle of his gaunt face, framed by a wild, unbrushed mess of hair that had been seldom cut in his life. His older sister made sure he knew, admitting defeat early as he was, in her own words, a lost case. He had no hint of elegance, no wish to please and appease those around him and not even much interest in personal hygiene.
It’s also possible that his propositioning was at fault for the awkward refusals. Even the one who was attempting, still, to find something to grab on his chest, had shuddered at his request; not one of arousal, but more a full body cringe at the blunt, cold wording. In spite of the subject, there was nothing exciting in the language he had used, his nonchalance tasting more of ennui than of a casual, no fuss attitude towards sex: his virginity held no sex-appeal offered this way, not even with the burden of silly feelings that some men seemed so afraid might bloom behind his ribcage rendered null by the clear scientific curiosity itching to be relieved.
Perhaps men, even men of science, were more romantic than they thought. It seemed so in the way his partner for this experiment insisted kissing would help get in the mood, cheesily knitting his fingers in his before he inserted himself into him. Did his heart flutter when he reflexively squeezed his hand as his entire body fought the intrusion, hissing through teeth as he tried to do as he was told and relax in a shaky breath, assured that it would start feeling good soon in between whispers of how tight he was ? Oh he could feel it, painfully so, a startled sob managing to crawl it’s way out of his thinly pressed lips, his breath stolen by the pain tearing him in half. It was no lie that this had nothing to do with the scant fingers that had explored his insides before, finding a little discomfort at first too but easing in the strange if unfulfilling sensation, tentatively curling digits brushing a sensitive spot; the one he thought would bring him over the edge if only he didn’t have to split his focus on both his hands and the coiling feeling pooling into his guts. But it seemed like the appendage was ramming into him in all the wrong places, hitting the back of his cervix without ever grazing that spot. The more it went on, the more his mind tried wandering away from the pounding pain and the growing irritation of his tender flesh, sharpening his focus on every other detail. The squelching sound, the labored off-puttingly warm breath above him, the mingling of perspiration, uncomfortably wet skin on skin contact, the long strands of hair clinging everywhere trapped between his back and the rapidly moistening bedsheets, pulled ever so irritatingly with each thrust, that fucking hand still kneading the surplus of fatty tissue surrounding useless mammary glands and the rapidly cooling path of the tears that had spilled over, tickling his tragus, a mess of fluids and grunts and too many thoughts. He could not fathom that this was it, the thing that made society go round under all the pretense of virtue: even the pain had become a boring thud in the back on his mind, barely registered if not for the soreness of his clenched jaw.
He was spared putting an end to the experiment, something he had yet to ever do, the data put above all else, even suffering, even boredom, even disappointment. His volunteer stopped suddenly, quivery, a strange pitiful whine escaping him as his fingers dug into the pale skin of his breast, riding the very last wave of what must have been the famed big orgasm he was still waiting for; one that surely had to surpass any shaky climax he could ever bring himself to justify the rave around coitus. He was as relieved as he was confused to feel the offending member slip out of himself, condom ever so slightly stained pink quickly removed, tied and discarded into a tissue: that guy had always been a bit of a clean freak, even outside of the lab. He couldn’t understand how he justified the mess of bodily fluids integral to the act to his near germophobic obsession with cleanliness, so much so that when he laid back next to him, he couldn’t help his perplexity. “That’s it ?” was the offending statement, one that made the older man huff and lose his words for a minute, having not even regained his breath yet, before claiming that this was as good as it got, annoyance clearly souring his afterglow.
Despite this affirmation, the wound in his ego was deep enough for him to request a transfer almost as quickly as it took for the slightly bruised crescents to fade from his chest.
Proper scientific method would require more data before forming a conclusion, but he wasn’t keen on putting himself through this waste of time again; his leading hypothesis was that perhaps his higher intellect yet again barred him from finding enjoyment in something his lesser peers were infatuated with, his brain needing more stimulation than the average person and thus being better suited for quick relief to quench his needs when they arised. Perhaps his body was ill-shaped to accomodate for a phallus, a little mistake in his biological engineering, yet another natural rejection of his sex, born not to be penetrated or bear children but to pursue matters of the mind. Call it pelvic floor dysfunction or something else, he found no will to remedy his failing as a woman; if anything he leaned into it, getting rid of the puny, pointless breasts only a couple of year later, not regretting one second that they had been fondled by someone else only once, bar his surgeon’s much less displeasing palpation during his first appointment. The smooth expanse of his chest interrupted only by the still sore scar running across felt much less out of place, devoid of any superficial details. One step removed from the other mammals he failed to understand.

More thoughts about Cei's ancient self, Coeus / Deudalaphon!
Coeus was a gentle, friendly soul, with decent aetheric power and sight, but nothing special in comparison to other ancients in those regards. Due to their adhd, their focus was somewhat shot, and so they had to be fully hyperfocused on something to use complex creation abilities, which unfortunately left them barred from that particular career despite their interest in the subject- they wanted to create, but couldn't do it safely and reliably enough to hinge their income on it without entirely too much risk.
But, they would not be discouraged! Instead of creation of organic beings like we see a lot of throughout the msq (understandably, it's very impressive and interesting), they turned their attention on their other special interest, technology! Coeus was capable of making plans and blueprints of incredible technological concepts and theories, and they had a skill for putting together incredibly stable, complex things with their hands and simpler magic.
They especially had an interest in technology that could allow those who lacked certain abilities to catch up to their peers, such as scanners that could give aetheric readings comparable to (but not wholly the same as) soul sight, though these were still in the works and not yet publicly released by the time the final days approached and they were forced to pay attention to more urgent matters.
Their prodigious skills in the field of technology are what ultimately got Coeus elected to the seat of Deudalaphon, which, as it currently has no canon field, I will say was in charge of technology. As technology intersects with creation often (along with other fields like agriculture), they often worked closely with other seats of the convocation, a sort of 'back up' field to supplement when a single seat's expertise came up lacking.

Greek Deities and Spirits: Primordial Deities
Hello lovelies and welcome to the first “chapter” of my series called Lesser Known Greek Deities and Spirits (or LKGDS). This first chapter will be over the primordial deities of Greek Mythology. There will be a lot of information packed into each of these chapters. I try my best to keep things organized, but if I went overboard with the information please let me know. Since this is the first chapter I wasn’t sure how much I should have put in or edited out. I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions!!
If you want to learn more about the Greek Primordial Deities continue reading down below!
Primordial means “from the beginning” or “earliest stage of development”. When using this term when talking about Deities this will cover the ones who either created the universe or were created when the universe itself was born.
From my research I found that were two Greek poets/scholars who wrote about the primordial deities and as you can imagine they each had their own order of who came first. The two poets are Hesiod (who wrote the Theogony – which is a large poem that describes the origins and genealogies of the Greek gods, composed c. 700) and Orpheus (for the Greeks he is considered the founder and prophet of the so-called "Orphic" mysteries. He was given credit for the composition of the Orphic Hymns and the Orphic Argonautica).
Hesiod's Theogony (c. 700 BC) tells the story of the genesis of the gods. After invoking the Muses (II.1-116), he tells of the generation of the first four primordial deities:
"First Chaos came to be, but next... Earth... and dim Tartarus in the depth of the... Earth, and Eros..."
According to Hesiod, the next primordial gods that come to be are:
Darkness and Night (born of Chaos); Light and Day (born of Night and Darkness); Heaven and Ocean ( virginally born of Earth).
In Orphic tradition, the primordial gods were born from Chronos and Ananke with Chaos being their first born. Orphic poetry (c. 530 BC) made Nyx the first principle, Night, and her offspring were many. Also, in the Orphic tradition, Phanes (a mystic Orphic deity of light and procreation, sometimes identified with the Elder Eros) is the original ruler of the universe, who hatched from the cosmic egg.
(For the most part I will be sticking as close to Hesiod’s version of the order of which the primordial deities were created.)
Below will be the “order” of which the Primordial Deities came to be and what they ruled over.
Chaos: refers to the void state preceding the creation of the universe or cosmos in the Greek creation myths, or to the initial "gap" created by the original separation of heaven and earth. Chaos was the first thing to exist in Greek Mythology.
Gaia (also spelled Gaea): Gaia is the ancestral mother of all life: the primal Mother Earth goddess. Hesiod's Theogony tells how, after Chaos, "wide-bosomed" Gaia (Earth) arose to be the everlasting seat of the immortals that possess Olympus above. He then tells that Gaia brought forth her equal Uranus (Heaven, Sky) to "cover her on every side" and to be the abode of the gods. Gaia also bore the hills (ourea), and Pontus (Sea), "without sweet union of love" (in other words without a father). Afterwards with Uranus she gave birth to the Titans, as Hesiod tells it: She lay with Heaven and bore deep-swirling Oceanus, Coeus and Crius and Hyperion and Iapetus, Theia and Rhea, Themis and Mnemosyne and gold-crowned Phoebe and lovely Tethys. After them was born Cronos (Cronus) the wily, youngest and most terrible of her children, and he hated his lusty sire.
Tartarus: considered to be the third of the primordial deities, following Chaos and Gaia, and is also a deep abyss that souls are judged after death and the truly wicked get their punishment.
Eros: According to Hesiod's Theogony, one of the most ancient of all Greek sources, Eros (the god of love) was the fourth god to come into existence, coming after Chaos, Gaia (the Earth), and Tartarus (the abyss). The Orphic and Eleusinian Mysteries featured Eros as a very original god, but not quite primordial, since he was the child of Night (Nyx). Aristophanes (c. 400 BC), influenced by Orphism, relates the birth of Eros: At the beginning there was only Chaos, Night (Nyx), Darkness (Erebus), and the Abyss (Tartarus). Earth, the Air and Heaven had no existence. Firstly, blackwinged Night laid a germless egg in the bosom of the infinite deeps of Darkness, and from this, after the revolution of long ages, sprang the graceful Love (Eros) with his glittering golden wings, swift as the whirlwinds of the tempest. He mated in the deep Abyss with dark Chaos, winged like himself, and thus hatched forth our race, which was the first to see the light.
Erebus: primordial god of Darkness and one of the first five to be born of Chaos. Said to be the brother of Nyx and fathered several other deities with Nyx; depending on the source of the mythology, his children are Aether, Hemera, the Hesperides, Hypnos, the Moirai, Geras, Styx, Charon, and Thanatos.
Uranus: the primal Greek god personifying the sky. Uranus or Father Sky was the son and husband of Gaia, Mother Earth. According to Hesiod's Theogony, Uranus was conceived by Gaia alone, but other sources cite Aether as his father. Uranus and Gaia were the parents of the first generation of Titans, and the ancestors of most of the Greek gods.
Nyx: the primordial goddess of the night. Said to have been around since the dawn of time. Viewed as an extremely powerful goddess, so powerful that even Zeus himself fears her wrath.
The Ourea: The Ourea were progeny of Gaia, who were the first-born elemental gods and goddesses. According to Hesiod: And [Gaia] brought forth long hills, graceful haunts of the goddess Nymphs who dwell amongst the glens of the hills. There are nine Ourea: Aitna, Athos, Helikon, Kithairon, Nysos, Olympus, Oreios, Parnes, and Tmolus. The Greeks rarely personified an individual mountain; an exception might be Tmolus, both a king and a mountain in Lydia. Each mountain was said to have its own local nymph, an oread.
Pontus: is an ancient, pre-Olympian sea-god. Son of Gaia and according to Hesiod has no father. With Gaia, he fathered Nereus , Thaumas , Phorcys and his sister-consort Ceto, and the "Strong Goddess" Eurybia. With the sea goddess Thalassa, he fathered the Telchines and all sea life.
Aether: the personification of the upper air. He embodies the pure upper air that the gods breathe, as opposed to the normal air breathed by mortals. Brother to Hemera and fathered by Nyx and Erebus.
Hemera: personification of day and one of the Greek primordial deities. She is the goddess of the daytime. She is the female counterpart of her brother Aether.
Phanes (also known as Protogonus): is the primordial god of creation in the Orphic cosmogony. He was the generator of life. Tthe driving force behind reproduction in the early cosmos. Phanes was hatched from the world-egg.

Death of Semele by Peter Paul Rubens (c 1635-40)
The Births of Hermes, Apollo, Artemis and Dionysus
JEALOUS HERA, disguising herself as an old neighbour, advised Semele, then already six months with child, to make her mysterious lover a request: that he no longer deceive her, but reveal himself in his true nature and form. How otherwise could she know that he was not a monster? Semele followed this advice and, when Zeus refused her plea, denied him further access to her bed. Then, in anger, he appeared as thunder and lightning, and she was consumed. (The Births of Hermes, Apollo, Artemis and Dionysus, The Greek Myths, Robert Graves, p56)
Zeus had numerous mortal and immortal female lovers and begat many children with them: his lover Maia, daughter of Atlas, gave birth to Hermes on Mount Cyllene in Arcadia and Leto, the daughter of the Titans, Coeus and Phoebe, bore him Apollo and Artemis. Zeus truly loved Leto and Hera never forgave her for it, sending the monstrous serpent, Python, to pursue her endlessly until she took refuge on the island of Delos where she was able to give birth to her children. Zeus had another passionate affair with the daughter of King Cadmus of Thebes, named Semele (‘Moon’), which ended tragically. As Semele burned to death, Hermes rescued her unborn child, and sewed him up in Zeus’ thigh where he completed his gestation. When the time came, Hermes delivered his half brother, Dionysus, from Zeus’ limb, which is why Dionysus is often termed ‘twice-born’.
Graves states that Zeus’ destruction of Semele represented the suppression of the cult of the Moon Goddess by Zeus worshipping Hellenes, and the rescue of Dionysus as symbolising the end of the ritual sacrifice of a male king to the Goddess to ensure the continued fertility of the land.
