Lost, tired, hopeless, fucked, angry, terrible, gaslighted and many more emotions were felt by you as you sat on a couch. Staring at the door, and then at the huge, delusional elf, who thought he was the only person who could protect you and took on the role of a parental figure for you, was reading a book.

Its title was as absurd as this whole situation - 'How to be a good mother'

You sighed for the nth time, thinking of ways of running away from this place. This place which you accidently found out after doing a dare which your friends gave to you at a partly. This place which was covered with the very forest where you lost your way, shivering in the cold, dark night between large trees. This place where an elf, a giant, tall elf found you and took you home. This place where the savior soon became the oppressor.

To be honest, there were many chances for you to run. But what would you do after running? Silas knew this place like the back of his hand, and you? No, you din't

But then, little snores were heard? Once which you would have found cute, but not in this situation. As you slowly tilted you head towards the noise, you saw, the lovely elf taking a nap.

His head on his arm, and book on table and eyes closed.

Now, this time, you had a good chance, maybe you could find someone while he was asleep!

You let your irrational, intrusive thoughts win as you tiptoed to the gallery and jumped down. Good thing, this elf wanted cool breezes keeping the home fresh.

As you started running, you glanced at the watch on your hand. It was late, People would be having a dinner at their warm homes with their real family. Your family would be at home eating the lovely home-cooked meal with deserts send by grandma instead of cocks and tits of a delusional 126-year-old-elf.

The girl's eyes expressed her horror but deep inside those was a small hint of defeat. A small hint of giving up.

A small hint of acceptance of fate.

Deciphering the Angelic Language

DO NOT ASK NEIL ABOUT FAN THEORY

Oh boy, I'm finally tackling a post on this! I haven't seen a ton of discussion about this or progress and I think that's because it's very complicated. I've done a bit of work on it and I'm hoping by sharing here we'll be able to combine our brainpower and make some more progress!

SO! Let's get into it shall we?

Let's start with what we've been told about the Angelic Language:

An SFX team member said that the pillars in heaven "don't translate into words" (so maybe it translates into something like hex? ASCII?)

A speaker at Ineffablecon confirmed that the language "contains meaning and can be decoded"

According to the Chapter 6 VFX Breakdown video, "The creative team broke down the symbols into an alphabet of about 140 runes"

I'm going to start with that last bullet point. An alphabet of about 140 runes, which math-wise narrows down what type of alphabet we might be looking at. Specifically, I think it might point to Consonant/Vowel Pairs, which gives you 126 characters, then add in numbers and punctuation, you've got about 140. That's my best guess anyway.

The next thing i did was look at the Heaven CCTV footage of Gabriel FRAME BY FRAME to analyze the runes on the screen in these scenes. I think this is the best place to start for a number of reasons, first of all, being that the CCTV footage seems to only use a subset of the runes that don't include and modifications like extra dots or ticks. I consider them base runes.

Secondly, the runes cycle through a lot of changes here so it's a great place to look for patterns, and find patterns I did.

I found 4 sets of runes that cycle sequentially through a repeating pattern. Okay I'm going to do my very best to explain this.

The runes on the CCTV will *almost* always follow the sequence of their set, and when they reach the end of the set, they're marked with one of the following first two sequences below which I'm referring to as "indicator runes" after which they either repeat the same set or a different set.

The only time the runes change in the middle of a sequence is when they're denoted by the third row indicator runes before the change occurs.

So there does at least seem to be some pattern to the runes, at least when it comes to the ones used in the CCTV footage. These however are only about half of the total number of runes, the other half are derived from these initial ones, and have additional tick marks and dots added to them to add some sort of meaning and differentiation.

These screen grabs are from the Chapter 6 VFX Breakdown video, and during the lead in to these animations I think I can also say that the language is probably read right to left, as that's the direction the runes scroll in on the screen.

These scenes are also shown with a certain glowing overlay, so I'm wondering if when we can figure the language out, if there is an interesting message here to be read as well.

Anyway! If you have any other info or this has sparked any ideas about the language for you please let me know! I will continue to play with it and update when I have anything of note! :)

Herodotus on Burial in Egypt

Herodotus' section of his Histories on burial in ancient Egypt (Book II.85-90) is an accurate description of Egyptian mummification, but he purposefully omits the spiritual significance of embalming in keeping with his commitment to refrain from discussing the religious beliefs of other cultures. The spiritual aspect of embalming, however, was central to the practice and is addressed indirectly.

This is not to say that Herodotus' account is wrong, only that it may seem incomplete as he clearly explains how embalming was practiced during the Late Period of Ancient Egypt (525-323 BCE), but not the reason for it. Embalming was intimately associated with Egyptian religion, which Herodotus seems to avoid addressing for his own reasons. Herodotus (l. c. 484-425/413 BCE) makes his policy on religious discussions clear, however, earlier in Book II when he deals with the sacred aspect of animals in Egypt:

All the animals in Egypt are regarded as sacred. Some are domesticated, and others are not, but if I were to explain why some animals are allowed to roam free, as sacred creatures, my account would be bound to discuss issues pertaining to the gods, and I am doing my best to avoid relating such things. It is only when I have had no choice that I have touched on them already.

Herodotus actually addresses religious issues frequently throughout his Histories as in the case of Croesus (I.47-91), Cyrus (I.124-126), Persian religious customs (I.131), Themistocles' speech to the Athenians (VIII.109), earlier in his discussion of the Egyptians (II.36-37) and elsewhere. When he claims to be avoiding religious issues, then, what he means is he will discuss practices and events relating to the gods but will not comment on their spiritual significance, though he sometimes slips and does this as well.

It is possible, as some have claimed, that he simply did not understand the religious significance of embalming to the Egyptians, but it is far more likely that he omits commentary for any number of reasons including the personal nature of religious belief and how a discussion of Egyptian beliefs might affect how his audience received the culture. His passage on Egyptian burial is in keeping with his tendency to emphasize positive aspects of a culture he wants his Greek audience to either admire (Egyptians) or understand better (Persians) in the same way he advances a negative narrative concerning those he does not seem to care for (Lydians).

In his section on burial in Egypt, then, he stays close to the actual practice in the interests of informing his readers on funerary rites but omits the deeper meaning as it might have offended the Greeks' own understanding of death, burial, and the afterlife. A reflection on the structure of the chapters in his burial passage, however, suggests he knew the spiritual significance of his topic and did address it, only obliquely.

Spiritual Significance of Mummification

The Egyptian understanding of the soul was far more complex than the Greek. The Egyptians understood the soul as being comprised of nine aspects:

Khat was the physical body.

Ka was one's double-form.

Ba was a human-headed bird aspect, which could speed between the earth and the heavens.

Shuyet was the shadow self.

Akh was the immortal, transformed self.

Sahu and Sechem were aspects of the Akh.

Ab was the heart, the source of good and evil.

Ren was one's secret name.

After death, the ka and ba needed to be able to recognize the khat in order to travel from the other realm to the tomb to receive the prayer offerings and sustenance that enabled their continued existence, and comfort, in the afterlife. The deceased needed to be remembered by the living in order for their akh to remain vibrant in the paradise of the Field of Reeds and the deceased needed to be shown proper respect upon their departure from earth for the same reason. Mummification and an elaborate sarcophagus in the image of the deceased were thought to provide for the soul in this.

The practice of mummification also served as a cleansing ritual, purifying the body of the sins of life in preparation for the soul's journey to the Hall of Truth to stand in judgment before Osiris, Lord of the Dead, and the Forty-Two Judges. Scholar Jan Assmann explains:

Guilt, accusation, enmity, and so forth are treated as forms of impurity and decay – as, so to say, immaterial but harmful substances – that must be eliminated so as to transpose the deceased into a condition of purity that can withstand decay and dissolution. Vindication was moral mummification. When the embalmer's work on the corpse was done, the priests took over and extended the work of purification and preservation to the entirety of the person. The Egyptian word for 'mummy' also meant 'worthy' and 'aristocrat'. In this last stage of the mummification process, the deceased experiences the Judgment of the Dead and received the aristocratic status of a follower of Osiris in the Netherworld.

If the body of the deceased was not treated with the proper care, the soul might return to earth to haunt the living, causing all kinds of problems, until that wrong was righted. Scholar Sarah Lynn Chapman notes how the judgment of the soul in the afterlife was believed to begin during the embalming process when the sins of the righteous were removed with the organs that would have been tainted by those sins, thereby making the soul's spiritual heart lighter and prepared for judgment; for the unrighteous, however, the embalming process would have been a torture as they were thought to cling to their sins and so the removal was a painful experience.

Three Firefighter Shows & Their Queers

Station 19 vs. 9-1-1 vs. Lone Star

A. THE FIREFIGHTER SHOWS

Station 19 is a TV show about firefighters, created by Stacy McKee with Shonda Rhimes as Executive Producer, launched by ABC in Jan 3, 2018. It's a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy.

9-1-1 is a TV show about firefighters, co-created by Tim Minear with Ryan Murphy as Executive Producer, launched by Fox in Mar 22, 2018.

Lone Star (or 9-1-1: Lone Star) is a TV show about firefighters, co-created by Tim Minear with Ryan Murphy as Executive Producer, launched by Fox in Jan 19, 2020. It's a spin-off of 9-1-1.

They sound repetitive? Wait until you get to the next parts.

B. THE TOKEN QUEER COUPLES

Station 19 has only one queer (bisexual) main couple: Maya Bishop (main character) x Carina DeLuca (main character) or MARINA. Maya Bishop is a member of Station 19, while Dr. Carina DeLuca is a medical doctor in... Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (duh 🙄).

Cheating issue: Maya cheated on Carina with her ex, Jack Gibson.

Parenthood issue: Initially Maya didn't want to be a parent, but Carina wanted to. Maya changed her mind later.

Adoption issue: Marina's effort to adopt baby Liam was far from smooth. First, they needed to foster Liam. They also faced a risk of losing the baby.

9-1-1 has only one queer (lesbian) main couple: Henrietta Wilson (main character) x Karen Wilson (recurring character) or HENREN. Henrietta Wilson is member of 118 Firehouse, while Dr. Karen Wilson is an aerospace engineer.

Cheating issue: Hen cheated on Karen with her ex, Eva Mathis.

Adoption issue: Henren's efforts to adopt Denny, and later Mara, were far from smooth. They also faced a risk of losing their children with each adoption or child fostering 🙄.

Lone Star has only one queer (gay) main couple: TK Strand (main character) x Carlos Reyes (main character) or TARLOS. TK Strand is member of 126 Firehouse, while Carlos Reyes is a police officer, later a Texas Ranger.

Parenthood issue: Initially Carlos didn't want to be a parent, but TK wants to. Carlos might change his mind later.

(Potential) adoption issue: TK wanted to adopt Jonah, his little step-brother. By the time this piece is posted, Lone Star final season is still ongoing. We don't know yet what will happen to the adoption plan.

C. THE OTHER QUEERS: THE "ETERNAL BACHELORS"

Station 19 has only one other queer main character: Travis Montgomery (gay).

Relationship journey: He became a widow after his husband, Michael Williams, died. Since then he had a string of failed relationships.

Final relationship status: By the end of the show, Travis got a brand new boyfriend (Dominic Amaya), whom he could build a relationship with.

It is an odd choice to make Travis went through a string of failed relationships until the end of the show (May 30, 2024), when other main characters got their one 'true love'. Sure, other main couples have their ups and downs during their relationships, but each of them got a 'soulmate', someone who audience assumed would be their end-game partner. Since Station 19 already had Marina set and settled, it is as if the show was afraid to upset the general audience if there were more than one queer couple had a lasting relationship with a happy ending.

9-1-1 has only one other queer main character: Evan Buckley ("Buck") (bisexual).

Relationship journey: He had a string of failed relationships with 4 women and 1 man during Season 1 to Season 8A (current season). Currently he is single.

Final relationship status: Yet unknown, since the show is still ongoing.

Other prominent queer (gay) character on 9-1-1 is Josh Russo (recurring character). He had one failed relationship portrayed on the show during Season 2 (Josh' 1st appearance) to Season 8A (current season).

Lone Star has only one other queer main character: Paul Strickland (transexual).

Relationship journey: Paul had one date with Josie on ep. 5x01 "Studs", but they didn't pursue a romantic relationship after that. Currently, he's in a relationship with Asha Fulton, whose appearance is almost as rare as UFO sighting 🙄. So far, Asha's only appeared in 5 episodes in total, all were in Season 4.

Final relationship status: Yet unknown. Currently the show is on its final season and has aired 9 of 12 episodes of the season. Paul's girlfriend has not yet made an appearance, but there is also no sign that their relationship is in trouble. If fans were lucky, Asha would make an appearance at the final episode of the show 🙄.

D. THE DIVERSITY QUOTA

All the three firefighter shows are marketed towards the general auidence. Each has only one queer couple who enjoys a lasting relationship, and (most likely will) get a happy ending at the end of the show. The other queer characters are not so lucky in love. Either they go through a string of failed relationships, or have an elusive romantic partner when the shows end.

What ABC did to Travis Montgomery of Station 19 is particularly telling. Why Travis didn't get a lasting romantic relationship with a happy ending? Station 19 has resolved any other problems with their characters, except for this one. The show tried to compensate it by giving Travis a major career boost and a brand new love interest. However, it means he had to build the relationship from scratch... again. And it still didn't answer the question: why didn't Travis get a lasting romantic relationship, when other main characters on the show did?

Paul Strickland's elusive girlfriend in Lone Star must sound familiar to Tevan fans, because that's how 9-1-1 treated Tommy Kinard during his term as Buck's boyfriend. Fans celebrated a less than one minute scene and zoomed his figure in the backgrounds, because Tommy's appearance was so few and far between.

Since Buck is bisexual, there's a chance that he'd get a lasting relationship with a woman. Another option is making Buck the Travis Montgomery of 9-1-1. He'd have a string of failed relationships throughout the show. When 9-1-1 ended, he could be in a brand new relationship with a man, because the show wouldn't need to portray the relationship any longer. Giving Buck an elusive boyfriend ala Paul Strickland seems unlikely, considering his personality. And by reflecting on what happened on other shows, the chance of Buck has a lasting relationship with a man is slimmer than celebrities on Ozempic.

It is as if there is a diversity quota for TV shows marketed towards general audience. If anyone disagree, let me ask this:

Why is there no show marketed towards general audience, which has more than one queer couple with a lasting romantic relationship & a happy ending at the end of the show?

'Coincidence' is not a logically acceptable answer, simply because the sheer number of shows marketed towards the general audience. The possibility of coincidence is also practically out of the window when we question 'why Travis of Station 19 didn't get a 'soul mate' while other main characters on the same show did?'

'There is no such diversity quota. I live in LA and have been working in the industry for decades, so you should trust me' is also not a logically acceptable answer. My question starts with 'why'. Logically, the answer should start with 'because'. That kind of answer reminds me of the dispute between Galileo Galilei vs. the Catholic Church. When Galileo promoted the heliocentrism doctrine based on the phases of Venus, the Catholic Church basically answered 'the doctrine is wrong. We've been studying God and his creations for centuries, so you should trust us.' We know how the story ended.
