manuel's first instinct is to flip his phone screen down on the counter.  he isn't particularly proud of it, but that's the first thing that goes through his mind when he reads the text from @absensia. he is good a that, he guesses — sweeping his problems under a rug and pretend they don't exist. so he can breathe a little easier for a while, without the feeling of something ugly breathing down his neck. he glares at the object, shoves it the front pocket of his sweatshirt and goes back to making himself coffee.

the kitchen is messy, but not in such a deplorable state that it screams abandoned.  lived in, sure. but he's seen worse. he keeps telling himself that he should buy some plants to give it some more color, but he ends up forgetting, or postponing. and so his kitchen is still looking empty, the walls a dull not quite white, not quite cream color, the paint long since faded in some places, cracked in others. as far as rented places go, it's decent, good enough for him.

his phone buzzes again.  ominous, insistent, like the bad thoughts that chase him at night. he grabs his phone with a sour taste in his mouth, it reminds him of the feeling of being backed into a corner. you can't ignore me, charlotte seems to be saying and manuel knows she is right — she often is, he supposes. so he ends up calling her, phone nudged between his shoulder and cheek, awkward and uncomfortable, trying to squash the impression that each beep of his phone is spitting the word pathetic out at him.

'' not even a 'how are you', wow, that's cold. you always cut straight to business. ''   he forces a casual tone, all fake cheer and deflection.   '' so, um. what's up? wait, actually— ''   he settles the coffee machine down, so he can grab the phone without giving himself a stiff neck.   '' why don't you come by? i'm making coffee. ''   a peace offering, whether or not he actually needs one.  better safe than sorry, right?

Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go “really? That’s so wonderful! What an innovative construction! Isn't language wonderful?"

even though he seems to have objections about the vampiric diet, really it feels like he's playing it up, acting in line with the human morals he's "supposed" to have (killing & eating people is wrong)

of course there's nothing he could really do about it, but daniel literally sits there and watches a guy get escorted off to be lunch for armand and only has some short jabs about it in response

he's even curious about it all, another thing he can add to his book

really, his priority is always his book and his own life. i do wonder how he would've reacted to someone being killed in front of him (since the fox seems to disturb him), but it's clear by the time he's speaking with louis in the finale he has no issue with taking lives to feed himself. imo it's something that was present and lurking within him for a long time before becoming a vampire

one thing that really fascinates me about alex is his devotion to art – and more specifically, how he chooses to get some inspiration from scientific works of what he aims to implement in his art. every time one gets to examine some of his lyrics, or even how he explains these lyrics in an interview, they can be greeted by some bits of actual scientific information. an example is how he named his taquería on the moon with the term ��information-action ratio”, coined by the critic neil postman, and referenced it in the song four out of five, something that might also indicate an interesting articulation with postman's concept. the line “cute new places keep on popping up”, for example, can express his well-known sardonic discontent regarding the flood of information being generated and transmitted over and over and, as much as it seems visually appealing and does give the idea of benefiting from advanced technologies, it doesn't really add anything substantial to the receiver's critical thinking – and worse, it distances the information receiver from the sender in a communication channel, according to postman.

what i'm saying with this interpretation is, it's known that alex is enamoured with the idea of gathering a bunch of references and condensing them into a mixture of metaphors in his writing, but it's so thrilling how, at times, we can find some bits of science inside of it – and it's even more exciting, just like playing a puzzle game, to find these references and analyse them by doing a similar research to what he did to create his works.

to be honest, either concept could just be for a reader in general, but the first thing I thought of was sansnomaly so!!! yeah

feel free to ask me stuff about either of these AUs!! The general info is down below but I do have more ideas for these! Depending on how well this does I might make more drawings, but if you want more feel free to ask!!!!

So the Hades AU is pretty simple. Sans is our Persephone, getting dragged down to the underworld with us!! I chose to make my Hades anomaly a lonely and nervous person, but the anomaly is literally us, so the personality is up to you!!! You can choose to follow the stuff I put in text, or not. Either way it’s more sansnomaly :)

The second one is a little more obscure- it’s a Coraline AU! We give Sans this little world where he can be happy for a while before he returns (we aren’t gonna hurt him or anything like the Other Mother dw!!!) to his own! Also, there are multiple anomalies!! Unfortunately, we’re all stuck in the Other World. This causes some anomalies to… become a little unhinged. They still don’t hurt Sans, but they take on more and more spiderlike qualities as they get more and more possessive of Sans :( The anomalies who have more doll-like attributes still want Sans to stay with them, but if he is put in harm’s way they will let him go.

Also, yes the spider anomalies have the Other Mother’s hands. Those things are fucking gorgeous how could I not

TNG episode where the ship is taking a bunch of different doctors and scientists to an important medical conference and Worf ends up developing a crush on one of the Vulcan doctors and they get along really well. They both seem lonely and their interactions are sweet. At the same time Worf is trying to beat an unknown opponent at a subspace strategy game which is circulating amongst all the security teams Starfleet-wide (Worf is very good at the game and so is equal parts frustrated and thrilled by this opponent's skill) and during one of their conversations/outings the Vulcan doctor points out a flaw in Worf's opponent's game which he never would have noticed on his own. This doesn't allow him to win necessarily but it does keep them from constantly stalemating one another. The end of the episode has Worf nearly confess to the doctor as they finally reach the conference, but it turns out her husband is waiting for her. Her husband is Tuvok and he was ALSO the opponent which Worf was fighting tooth and nail (on two different fronts?). Tuvok and Worf are both shocked by this and suspicious of one another. Was Worf seducing his wife as a tactic? Was Tuvok using his wife to lower Worf's guard? Doctor T'Pel seems amused, undercutting the tension. Gentlemen, it's only a game. (Both men remember it is indeed only a game and appear sheepish) She wishes Worf well and then gets on the transport, informing the room that her stay on the Enterprise was indeed quite enjoyable. Tuvok & Worf agree to continue playing that game until there is a decisive winner.

Someone I otherwise respect a lot just posted this and I’m feeling so hurt right now. Trans women aren’t the only ones being forcibly misgendered by Florida’s policies. The case that was won was even literally about a trans man, Tyler Copeland, who was being horribly harassed with feminine terms and jokes about his transmasculinity. To erase us from this narrative and act as though this only or even primarily affects trans women is just further marginalizing us within our own community. She’s a journalist and will likely write a whole article on it, so I left a comment and am holding out hope she will be more open about how it affects us in the future. It wasn’t intentional harm, I’m sure she just didn’t think about us — but that’s the whole issue. It illustrates how normalized it is to fixate on trans women and leave out other trans folks, both inside and outside the trans community.
