also in the trickle of info from the 8 hour fight that was michael going to CNY (which is why he got so stressed that he was shitting blood)
the reason the whore is doing this to us is cause she needs to "protect her son and the family's assets from me cause i have a single mom so she has to be poor so im probably out for their money and have to show my worth"
IM FROM FOREST HILLS WHAT THE FUCK?
like what in the misogynistic "but women can't have good jobs" brainrot is this, you've been in my moms building and seen the DOORMAN? if that wasn't a teeeeeeeny weeeeeny hint to the class divide between me and michael and it ain't in the direction this dumb slut thinks?? (Also like my moms /only/ upper middle class, I do not think this psycho knows what "rich" looks like in nyc and I have a few friends from temple as a kid who are rich rich (like non scholarship UNIS and horace mann students lol) cause I went to temple in fucking......forest hills) like for fucks sake my moms worth more than double these freaks stfu????? what fucking money? there's no money for me to be after?
WHAT THE FUCK
sorry that you're unskilled and can't make money, none of the women in my family can relate lul they're doctors, teachers at the top of the payscale, and accountants you freak????
also like any friend we've told about this have all literally had the same reaction of "wait...isn't erica basically a JAP lul" or "no one would think ericas with you for money unless they were insane or really fucking sexist cause like......shes a JAP"
like i literally will not touch my mom's money, HATE when she pays for stuff, will literally not allow her to pay for stuff and venmo her to be equal cause i earn my own and can do on my own but tf??? because i'm not buying luxury designer bullshit cause i don't need to wealth signal you think my family is poor and i'm out for your non-existent riches??????

“Fuck you Comic Con nerds!” | DC - Batman WIP
Tumblr media
Batfam X Isekaied Reader
— in which you, a DC fan gets isekaied into and gets saved by boy wonder. Only to get mad at him and B… it’s only after you calm down (still mad at them) you piece together what actually happened… but should you tell them?
AU: Soulmate (?), isekai Rating: Sfw
Note: You and Damien are the same age and shit. I don’t really remember how old he is but for the sake of fanfiction let’s age him up to 18 (or down I looked it up and it said he was 37? I have no idea where that info was from comic are confusing)
Warning: Y/N swears a lot and makes a like one sexual joke? _________________________________
One minute you were in the greatest, most magical place in the world: Six flags. And the next you were in the sewer. To say you were pissed and totally confused was an understatement. Those funnel cakes by the entrance were calling your name- you were gonna get one before you left! Now instead of that sweet cake smell it was replaced with the smell of shit and piss and whatever else lived in the sewer.
Sixflags was suppose to be relaxing- doctors orders. You just needed to relax and distract from-
You were in the sewers. You dreaded to think about what you may have stepped in while on your quest to find a manhole cover.
So yes, you looked like an idiot in a Superman cape carrying a Wayne enterprises mug wondering around the sewers. The mug was half off and made you feel like you existed in the world of DC instead of the regular merchandise… and the cape was because who doesn’t get a cape when they go to six flags? Or at least bring the cape they already bought with them. Looking back, you blamed the mug. Anyway, you were wandering around this horrible sewer with water greener then green. It seriously looked toxic… when you heard this horrible roar…
You glanced back from where you came- looking towards the sound, when you heard it again. So, like any sane person. You broke out into a sprint.
Bad ideas, because it heard you and was coming closer now.
You seriously doubted you would be able to outrun this thing for long. It was getting closer and rapidly. But, thankfully, luck was on your side- because you saw a manhole cover!
Climbing the ladder you pushed the thing open-
Only to almost get ran over by a fucking car! “Watch it!” You cursed at the speeding car, a certain finger proudly in the air as you climb out. Momentarily forgetting about the creature that was chasing you. Remember that you slammed the man hole cover shut in a hurry.
But, did you think you could compete with some monster when it comes to the battle of strength? Yeah, didn’t think so either. It blasted the manhole cover off of its neat little spot and you hurry back and away from the road. “What the- oh my god.” You breath in relief when the thing was too big to actually climb out of the sewers. “Killer croc… okay… I’m losing it… whatever it is…” you try and breath out to collect yourself but you were interrupted by the sound of a very angry lizard man… thing. Crocodile? “Okay fuck off!” You shouted angrily at the villain and rip your cap off. “Abusive aunts or some shit is hard but by god your annoying!” You huff and run away because that just made him more angry and you didn’t want to stick around for that.
You did run away while waving two fingers at him, each from the middle of two of your hands but that was neither here nor there. You just needed to walk away and clear your head-
And…
You bumped into someone on your little escape. A chest of a fucking cosplayer. “My day couldn’t be going worse- oh my god, Fuck you Comic Con nerds!” You swore at the boy in black, red and green. “Six flags was suppose to be fucking relaxing!” You swore at him and turned away to go the opposite way only to bare witness to the snarls of a certain croc
“get back here!” He made the fucking ground shake.
“Fuck you and your shitty Damien cosplay, I am out of here.” You turn and ran from him only he to met with the silhouette of a bat… man, it was fucking Batman. “Oh I wonder who it is? Bruce Wayne, no fucking duh, Go fight the idiot on acid and leave me out of it.” You hissed because you were cornered. You tend to lash out when your cornered. He approached you quieter now. “…Oh um, I’ll take the crocodile, thanks.” You spoke as you backed up only for him to make the ground shake harder-
“Fine! Boy wonder then god damn. At least he’s hot!”
“How do You know our names?” Boy wonder piped up. He was suddenly standing beside you.
“Are You dense or really into role play?” You hissed at them. “I don’t know what kind of budget your little prank crew is working with but screw off!” Just then the crocadile managed to ruin the ground around him and break free- resulting in Batman and Robin to fight him and you-
The sane one to run away, “I’m so suing six flags for this- didn’t sign up for their fucking role-play shit.”
—————————————
Okay, so after adjusting. You were no longer in six flags- nor some rich nerds cosplay special effects whatever. Hell you didn’t even somehow end up on a movie set shooting for the next Batman. “Gotham more like god dammit, right?” You joked to yourself, and the old women next to you. She just looked at you weirded out and oddly disappointed before shaking her head. “Okay, Fuck me then.”
So, yeah, you were feeling a lot of emotions. Hey, you can adjust to this! Because no way in hell was getting back to your world worth being involved in whatever episode or comic plot this whole thing was. Yeah no, fuck that. You made a checklist.
1. Get out of Gotham (metropolis was lovely, Superman was cool-)
2. Get enough money to fuck off to some corner of the world no one knew about.
And finally 3. Live peacefully knowing you’ll never get that funnel cake.
The only problem? You didn’t have any money, food, shelter, phone, money again, or anything besides the clothes on your back. And you were craving funnel cake. Yes, you were poor in Gotham. That was basically a death sentence.
At least you had a mug. A stupid, useless mug. Hey, at least you can beg for change with it! “I should rob people.” You mutter to yourself because, that seemed like a good easy way to get money- the old women next to you however eyed you warily and moved her purse. “Not you, we’re cool Margaret.” You sent her a wave and a wink and got up. This plan would work.
It was this or sell the Justice leagues names to villains. Which- hey that could make cash and make you dead!
—————————————
Despite what people will tell you, stealing is fun.
Who would have guessed- your a natural pick pocket! If pick pocketing was running past women and tugging their bags away. “My bag! My purse!” Okay, maybe you had a bit of a sick sense of humor but you were desperate! And you made 132 dollars and 25 cents. Had it been two days? Yes, had you been pepper sprayed twice? Yes again, but you avoided it!
The only regret you had? Why hadn’t it been marvel? Marvel just seemed easier to live in. Yes the world did end but it bounced back! You sighed and threw a penny in the air. You were honestly tired. Two days was a long time to go without a bed. You couldn’t get a job either, you tired and needed so much to prove you were a serial killer or a thief- which included a birth certificate you didn’t have and so much more. Background checks would be the death of you. Even at that small cafe you met Margret? Yeah it was Margret. “Well we’ll well, if it isn’t Gotham’s newest petty criminal.”
You dropped your penny. Leaving you with 24 cents.
It was Jason fucking Todd.
“If I die, at least make it by those thighs.” You said solemnly, accepting your death. “I mean seriously, you squat or something?” You did a wolf whistle and now you were being detained. Okay, you tried.
You never claimed to be better then a man. And if you did you lied.
“I got her B.”
.
.
.
.
“Banananannaan Batman! Da Na!” You sang as Batman’s Batmobile pulled into the bat cave. The same one you had been dragged too. “He’s the crime fighting vigilantes who works alone! Besides Robin, Nightwing, Gordon, the Justice League, batgirl, Red Robin, red hood, Oracle, Barbra, um… I know theirs more help me out jay bird?” You sang as he excited the car. “He refuses to kill the joker who’s a mass murder ands death would save thousands! It’s Batman! The hero man! Danananana!”
“How do You know?” Batman asked as he walked towards you.
“The Song? Oh I improvised. Hard to find rhymes for Batman, hero man is pretty good though, huh?” He fucking punched you! “Fuck! What the hell dude? Wait are you the angry Batman who’s quieter or the nice Batman- god it’s so hard to know which one I ended up with.”
“This is serious.” Dick Said as he grabbed Batman hand and pulled him away from you.
“Heard of coping? penis?” You rolled your eyes, “this is kinda how I do it.”
“You sold our information, or Superman’s information too a villain. Tell us why and how you knew it and we’ll let you go.” He continued, “our friend is in serious danger now because of you.” He gritted his teeth looking upset.
You just rolled your eyes and licked your now bloody teeth. “Would have sold your guys information for a lot more then I got on me. Living large with eight dogs- maybe cats? Don’t know how I feel about animals actually. Which do you prefer dogs or cats?”
“We need to know how many villains you sold us out too.” Dick said calmly, his face getting closer to your own. “Now.”
You smile and lean closer to him. “You free after this?” He backed away with a frustrated look and Batman put his hand on Dick shoulder. “Oh B is tapping in now- great!”
“Your the only person who knows who we are.” Another voice said you looked behind you and saw Damien.
“That you don’t trust. Maybe check your inner circles before punching a poor thief! God… you’d think the world greatest detective would fact check- oh wait isn’t the greatest a chimp or something? I’ve always loved monkeys- oh maybe I’d get a monkey for my pent house.”
“You have no family, no friends, no birth certificate- before last week you didn’t exist. There are no records of you being born or traveling to Gotham. Who exactly are you?” Batman leaned close to you.
You stayed silent, thinking of your options. "I was with a traveling circus..." You began, "Then one day someone rigged the equipment for my parent's routine and then batman adopted me, and that was how I began robin..." You spoke solemnly, you noticed how a certain blue suited bird man tensed up. "Aw, don't tell me we have the same backstory!" You accused the Nighwing, "well one of us is going to have to change it and I hate to tell you, but I make it work."
"She knows more about us than our names... or at least more about Nighwing." You heard a robin mutter, the red one.
"Okay being red was his thing” you look at red hood, “and you took it, so you have no place to talk about me and penis's copycat situation- Even though I totally did it first and he should change it." You nudged your head towards Red Hood, "Kinda like how you took his role as Robin, but you know what Ima stay away from that can of worms haha." You laughed awkwardly as Jason stood up from behind you and walked towards you menacingly.
"This is a Major Turn Off for me you know? The costumes just don’t do it- maybe if you strip-“ and your mouth was tapped shut.

doctor who but i've never watched it
and so it begins again. the people asked for it. the people got it. i will ensure the people regret it.
i have never watched this show, or seen an edit, but i am a thorough researcher and i feel that i've got the essence of it.
this is what i have gathered. academicians worldwide take note.
Firstly, so I don't anger anyone, I accept and acknowledge that the tardis is blue and not yellow. My misinformation was from a Drarry fanfiction, and I had hitherto regarded Drarry fanfiction as the absolute truth.
There are doctors, and there are at least fifteen of them. At least two of them are David Tennant, which I can respect.
I'm not sure why the doctors are doctors, because I can find no trace of any medical procedure except for one doctor who licks things, which he learned from the previous doctor. If this is sufficient reason, I apologise for doubting their credentials.
On the other hand, if they are doctors thanks to a postdoctoral degree, this is also fine, though I have never seen anyone study anything. There is however a doctor, and there were people upset about her, but the fandom pointed out she set the tardis on fire, which is apparently a very doctor thing to do. Setting things on fire is absolutely something any research scholar would love, so again, apologies for doubting their credentials.
At least one doctor is gay. It is probably one of the David doctors, which checks out. He says someone, I think a dentist, is hot. I envy the maybe-dentist.
A t least one doctor is trans. I was unable to find them. But they exist. Oh yes, the fandom assures me they exist.
David Tennant as well as Ncuti Gatwa were fanboys, first of the show, and second of David Tennant, and thus they got into acting. Just a fun tidbit from me, since I am now the authority on this fandom.
There are time machines with which the doctors have sex by piloting them, which is questionable because the time machines are only partially sentient. I am not sure if the time machines are the tardis. But the tardis is blue, and not yellow, of that I am certain.
There was a stage play. Or maybe that was a metaphor for the production budget of the early seasons. I am not sure, but toddler David Tennant watched it. I assume no one took a 3 year old to a stage play, so through scientific deduction, it must have been a metaphor.
At some point, Death is an agony aunt and they have to spill secrets to it, or drown in a lake of human skulls. Who is this they? It's so obvious that the fandom sees no need to explain it, and neither do I. I do know it though. Of that you may remain certain.
A David doctor has a niece and she likes being his niece.
A David doctor has a best friend named Donna. He kisses her head. She supports his fruitiness. It is wholesome. It killed him when he lost her.
Slight tangent, but younger David doctor looks like Andrew Garfield. Current David in photos does give Ben Barnes energy. Any Wolfstar shippers, I believe you've found the Wolfstar kid. It is David Tennant.
A lot of people are David Tennant. A reliable Pinterest post on Doctor Who, clearly well researched, gave me the statistic that 15% of Doctor Who is David Tennant. From the amount of David Tennant that I ran across in my research, I don't understand it but I don't doubt it, either.
Speaking of Andrew Garfield, he in involved in this somehow. I am not sure how, but you cannot escape Andrew Garfield. He is even a part of fandoms he never acted in.
There is an individual named Catherine, I think she is the actress, but she could be a character. She seems to have much less knowledge about Doctor Who lore than I do. David Tennant finds it funny. Maybe he would find me funny, too.
The doctors installed some things in the tardis, from a wheelchair ramp to a jukebox. I don't know why a jukebox was needed. If I'm honest I don't know what a jukebox is. I don't know what the tardis is. But it is blue, and not yellow.
There is a French catchphrase.
Something happens in Wales. I don't know what it is, but something always seems to be happening in Wales in these fandoms, so I don't doubt it.
There is an old Doctor Who in a wheelchair, and he is happy to see a David doctor.
They go around in space, and do things. Who is this they? You and I both know the answer, so we needn't talk about it.
The show intro is "doo wee doo".
There is an alien who is not a mouse, the alien is The Meep, and uses the definite article as pronouns. David doctor is supportive of this, which is very good.
I found baby Yoda in the show, but apparently they call it a 'goblin' there, and someone doesn't like it.
There is a lot to do with time. There is a time hole, and things happen, and people die and are resurrected. There is danger, but it is fun.
They have CGI, and it is not good, which is the best thing about it. Who is they? Please stop asking me. It is rather obvious and something I definitely know.
Someone's boyfriend dies and the boyfriend is then resurrected but then gets lost with his boyfriend but then is reincarnated as a girl who would still call herself the someone's boyfriend but then she is replaced by the boyfriend but he's different now. I apologise for any errors that have crept it, but the tardis is blue and not yellow.
Someone named Martha is a doctor, and someone is very proud of her for it.
The eleventh and twelfth doctors like bow ties.
David Tennant wants to be ginger. David Tennant always gets what he wants. Who can refuse David Tennant? David Tennant is then ginger.
A David doctor gets a happy ending.
Someone yelled at Neil Gaiman about this. It was a mistake. He said that since it had already been done, he wouldn't want to give David's character a happy ending in S3, that would be a trifle unoriginal.
A lesson to be learned, Good Omens fandom, just a bit of advice from your son, do not yell at Neil Gaiman, it does not go well. Rumour has it he murdered the people who complained about him always wearing black. Of course, there is the fact that he doesn't exist, but that doesn't seem to have stopped him.
The doctors manifest in the previous doctor's clothes, which is apparently so last season. The tardis also manifests. I don't know where, or how. But it is blue, and not yellow.
I know, there was a lot of lore, so many of you thought I wouldn't be able to gather it all. But look how much research I did! I've got it better than maybe-actress-maybe-character Catherine, I'm sure :"]
Anyway, all the major plot points are covered above, so anyone who hasn't watched Doctor Who, feel free to refer to this and impress your Whovian friends with your knowledge! [not to be judgemental, but what a dreadfully Dr Seuss name, I rather like it]

Every little thing you do- Part 2
Tommy Shelby x reader
Series Master list
Thank you so much for giving this little idea so much love 💕 it means a lot! Thank you for taking the time to read and share your thoughts
Word count: 2,695
Tumblr media
The house was quiet, it was probably pretty late by now, but at least the initial commotion was calmer now. Tommy’s eyes focused on the flame flickering on the bedside table, the room was quiet. Then his eyes darted to Y/N… his best friend seemed so vulnerable, so small. He had seen the marks her father left on her back it was a horrible sight and now it looked worse. As if her life wasn’t complicated enough by the unplanned pregnancy, Y/N would have to deal with the physical pain as well.
He studied Y/N’s face for a minute, taking in the swollen eyes from crying too much, his heart aches for her, she didn’t deserve to be treated like this. She held a special place close to his heart since they were kids.
“Do you’ve a minute?” Polly asked.
As she realized the doubt in her nephew’s eyes, she assured him that Y/N would sleep for a while. After cleaning her injuries and adding a strong ointment to the wounds on her back, Polly checked the baby and gave Y/N a tea to help her sleep.
Tommy gave Y/N one more look and covered her arm with the thin sheet, but was careful enough to not hurt her before he walked out of what was once Ada’s room in Watery Lane.
“What happened?” He found Polly downstairs stomping her cigarette on the ashtray. Earlier, she didn’t ask questions, she just rushed to take care of Y/N’s wounds just she had done so many times when they were kids, and eventually teenagers on the brick of trouble every time.
“Y/N is pregnant, the son of a bitch told her he wasn’t sure the baby is his.”
“And that’s why her father hit her like that?!” She asked scandalized. “He’s an animal.”
“How’s the baby, really?” He asked with genuine concern.
Polly sighed. “She was smart to offer her back, so the belt wouldn’t hit in any compromising area, but I’d keep her in bed just in case.” She suggested.
“Tommy,” Scudboat apologized for the interruption, “we found the vehicle, Scott has been hiding in the house, do you want the men to enter and get him?”
Leaning on the counter, Tommy considered his options for a few seconds. “No, keep someone watching his house at all times, he might try to escape.”
As the blinder left him again alone with his aunt, Tommy expressed out loud a decision he had already made.
“We can’t leave her alone Pol.” He clenched his jaw. “She’s on her own, that bastard just used her and her family won’t help her with the baby yo-you saw how they hurt her.”
“I know.” She added breathlessly stopping for a second as she got the kettle. “They turned their backs on her when she needed them the most.”
“Sort a doctor tomorrow morning to make sure they’ll be fine.”
“And then what?” Pol stared at him.
“I just got a house, still needs a few things… I can take Y/N there, because if she stays here, she’ll see her parents all damn day.”
“In the meantime if she needs another place, there’s my house as well.”
Tommy folded his arms against his chest and nodded profusely.
“Poor Y/N… she’ll have a hard time with people pointing fingers at her all the time.” Polly shook her head.
Tommy remembered the long stares and whispers over Ada, when she suddenly got married and started showing no long after. He had been forced to walk around with the gun in his hand for several weeks. They even kicked her out of a boutique once she tried buying a dress and Tommy had to stop by with a few men until his sister got the dress that she wanted.
“I’ll blind anyone who dares to do something against Y/N.” He stated firmly pouring some whiskey finally.
“What happened?” Finn asked looking from his brother to his aunt.
“If anyone asks,” Tommy pointed a finger at him, “you haven’t seen Y/N here alright?”
Finn frowned. “But I haven’t seen her.”
“Exactly.” Tommy agreed walking towards the fireplace, he added a few pieces of wood and then took a seat in front of it. Pondering on the previous events, worry installed on his shoulders of what might happen. Anger spreading on his body at the thought of his best friend being humiliated by her useless boyfriend, after all she had done for the prick and he had the audacity to doubt the baby was his. Thanks to her, Scott got the chance to be a blinder, and with that endless benefits.
One of his men knocked desperately and as Tommy went to see what was happening he heard the best news of the day.
“We followed Scott, he was at the train station.”
He took the remaining of his drink in a swing. “Was?”
“The boys took him to the warehouse, he had a ticket to escape.”
Tommy gave his aunt a look. “If Y/N wakes up, send someone to let me know.”
As Polly saw them disappear, her eyes darted upwards, in a silent prayer. She knew Scott wouldn’t live a day without regretting his decision. Taking her cup of tea with her, she decided to look for some clothes and clean sheets to provide to Y/N while they sorted everything out.
Y/N was considered part of the family, she and Tommy had always been close, in a way Y/N was the only person who could understand her nephew. The one who he trusted the most.
She decided to go to the church the following morning to light a candle and pray for Y/N and the baby.
Tumblr media
Taking a deep breath and one of her eyes cracked a bit open. As everything started to hurt so bad, her chest felt heavy as memories from what had happened hit Y/N hard. Word by word her parents had said replayed in her mind.
A single tear rolled down from her eye to her nose. With trembling fingers, Y/N moved one of her hands to the yet non-existent bump. It was still early to start showing but she couldn’t help but think her baby was starting to grow inside her.
Despite the circumstances, Y/N felt like giving her own life for this baby. It didn’t matter that Scott or her family decided to leave her.
Tommy opened the door carefully to not wake Y/N up, but to his surprise she was already awake.
“Go on… say it.” She was waiting for Tommy’s lecture.
Scott had turned his back just like her parents. All the people she thought she could rely on showed her to not take them for granted.
But Tommy shook his head.
“How are you feeling?” He asked taking the chair in the corner to place it next to the bed.
“Like a total failure.” She admitted with tears in her eyes.
“Y/N.” Tommy didn’t know what to say to make her feel better, to help her. “Hey, look at me.” He spoke softly and covered one of her hands with his own.
Y/N started biting the inside of her cheek to prevent more tears to come out. But looked at her best friend anyways.
“You’re not alone, I know you’ve a lot to take in at the moment… but you can count on me for everything.” He offered sincerely.
She didn’t feel worth any of this, she felt dirty, stupid for believing in Scott’s love words. How could she have been so naïve?
“Why?” Her voice broke. “Why do you want to help me when I’ve done everything wrong?”
“Don’t do this to yourself.” Tommy swallowed hard. “Don’t let them get in your head, I know how it is, but this isn’t your fault.”
“Of course it is! I gave myself away to Scott, I’m just another whore.”
Tommy lost his control, he didn’t want her to feel this way.
“You’re not a whore. You did it out of love and that’s not something to regret.”
“I deserve this, my father is right.” Y/N shook her head, she angrily wiped a tear away.
“No, you don’t deserve this shit happening. Y/N you’re a good woman an-”
Y/N’s grandmother asked if she could walk into the room. Tommy felt grateful for the interruption because he didn’t know how to deal this situation. He didn’t want to say that he had warned Y/N about her now ex boyfriend and make her feel worse than she already did.
“I’ll be downstairs if you need anything.”
At least he got a chance last night at the warehouse to make the bastard pay for playing with Y/N’s heart. Tommy made it very clear he better disappear from her life for good because if he ever saw him again, he wouldn’t let him walk twice alive.
He had been a few punches away from killing Scott. But the image of Y/N holding a baby in her arms stopped him… he wouldn’t be responsible for killing that baby’s father, even though Scott definitely deserved it. So he limited himself to leave a little warning, a message.
“This is a mess, Y/N feels so guilty for getting into this.” Tommy announced walking into the kitchen. He found his sister and aunt making breakfast.
Tommy’s eyes fixed on Karl and he was taken back in time to when Ada thought he had betrayed Freddie. He was a lot of things, but he’d never cause a pain like that to a child. At least not one of his own people.
From the beginning, he knew Scott was a piece of shit, but Y/N seemed so happy and thrilled, how would he step in to destroy her happiness? He never imagined he’d have to help her pick up the broken pieces of her heart. The sudden presence of Polly close to him made him snap back into reality, she stepped closer to help him light the cigarette that was hanging from his mouth.
Tommy moved his eyes towards his nephew, he was playing with a truck on the floor. Perhaps he was overthinking but he didn’t know what would he answer when Y/N’s child asked about his or her father.
“Ada would you talk to Y/N?”
“About what?”
“When you got pregnant…” he began with embarrassment in his eyes to talk about that. “It’s something similar.”
They’ve come a long way ever since, but Tommy still regretted the time they spent apart. Family was everything to him.
“And what do you want me to say Tommy? Her boyfriend dumped her, it’s not the same I got married.”
He sighed in frustration. “I just want Y/N to feel our support.”
“You’re going to make her feel overwhelmed! I know how noisy you can be.” Ada protested.
Tommy scoffed, he felt offended by his sister’s words. He just wanted to help Y/N.
“I’ll talk to her.” Polly intervened placing some food on a tray to give Y/N.
“Thank you.”
Ada clicked her tongue and crossed her arms. Her eyes boring into her brother.
“What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
But Ada turned the corner of her mouth down and shuddered. “Nothing it’s just strange to see you go above and beyond for someone.”
As she walked out of the kitchen, Tommy found himself thinking of her words. She was telling the truth but… but how could he stand there and do nothing for Y/N?
He knew her like the palm of his hand, she had been by his side since forever, encouraging him to follow his dreams, telling him the truth right in his face when he messed up. Even he didn’t want to hear it.
There was no other way to do this, she’d have his entire support through the pregnancy and whatever she might need afterwards.
“Mr. Shelby!” Y/N’s grandmother shouted from upstairs.
Tommy skipped a few steps and when he reached Ada’s old room, he found Polly holding Y/N’s hair back, she had been sick and her grandmother was trying to hold her trembling body.
“I’m sorry Pol. Sorry.”
“Why are you sorry for? With everything you’ve been through it’s not a surprise your stomach can’t handle food. Tommy help me here.” His aunt asked him to take her place so Y/N could use his strength as support. “Take her to that chair, while I sort this out.”
Following Polly’s instructions, Tommy lead Y/N carefully to the chair in the corner while his aunt and Y/N’s grandma changed the bedsheets. Ada joined them a moment later with a glass of water. “Try some crackers, it helped me with sickness during my pregnancy.” She offered taking the sheets downstairs.
Y/N groaned feeling embarrassed and mortified for everything. As soon as she smelled the food her stomach protested, but she felt bad for telling Polly something so she decided to just eat the food. But the moment she got the first bite, she couldn’t help it and it ended in her throwing up and making a mess.
“I want to thank you for taking care of her.” Y/N’s grandmother admitted taking her hand.
“I was just thinking…” Tommy started to say, “You could come with me to the new place I got.” Then he turned to face her grandmother. “It’s outside the city, away from curious eyes and it’s surrounded by trees.”
“No.” Y/N stated.
“I think it’s a wonderful idea dear.” Her grandma smiled at Tommy. “Fresh air could help her.”
Y/N sighed frustrated with herself, with the situation.
“Think about it, yeah?” Tommy suggested. “That way you won’t run into your parents everyday, and you can walk to the lake to relax.”
“He’s right.” Her grandma approved. “You’ll feel grateful to be away from the drama.”
“Perfect! Looks like you got it all figured out Tommy.” She snapped. “Just like my mother who wanted to send me to her aunt’s farm.”
She knew this wasn’t fair, he was the only one offering support, but she couldn’t help it, she felt on the brick, like everything was falling apart. And she was angry with herself.
Polly pushed Tommy away and gently grabbed Y/N’s arm. “Sweetheart all of this worry isn’t right for the baby. For the first time, I think going to that house is the best idea.”
“Unfortunately your choices are limited my darling.” Y/N’s grandma spoke softly. “But you should know that these wonderful people are trying to help you.”
She was trying to be strong, to pretend this didn’t hurt her, but truth is he world was crashing down. And this was only the beginning.
That seemed to click on Y/N’s mind because she gave a small nod, her lower lip gave in and it started quivering, then the tears started to fall down her cheeks.
“Thank you so much.” Y/N sobbed. “I’m so sorry.” Emotions took over her.
Her grandma pulled her in for a hug, wrapping her arms protectively around her just like she did when she was a child. “The Lord removed some people from your life but look at the angels he placed right away.”
Tommy saw Polly dabbing the corner of her eyes with her sleeve.
“This baby will grow surrounded by people who really love him or her.” He assured her.
“Now how about I help you take a bath? The doctor should arrive shortly.” Polly offered rubbing her back.
Her grandma squeezed between them. “I better go, said I was going to church.”
“Thank you for coming gran.” Y/N gave her a tight hug.
As they moved to get things done, Polly stopped her nephew before he could walk downstairs. “You’re brave for helping her like this.”
“I can’t leave her on her own.” He tried to explain, but Polly interrupted him.
“Your mother raised you right.” She then, in an unexpected move touched his shoulder. “She’d be proud of you.”

Hi Alex!
I don’t think it’s stupid or cheesy to miss someone, I miss you too! Going back to normal after being on holiday is always horrible, especially after this one, and especially having to go back to school, I’m not a big fan! Do you go to school too? I wanted to ask if you did but I couldn’t… it’s nothing personal, by the way, sometimes I just can’t speak to people and I don’t really know why. I thought it was my decision if I did or didn’t before I met you but maybe not. My parents n’ the teachers at school call it selective mutism but I won’t bore you with all that crap.
I can’t see your new teeth but they grow fast so maybe next time! If they don’t maybe you could get some gold one’s like your dad has, unless you don’t wanna look like a pirate lol.. my littlest sister has four teeth now, and I have all my big teeth! I haven’t counted the twins though cos they’d probably bite me if I tried haha!!
Ava is the tiny one with the blonde pigtails! She’s cute but she still sleeps and poops a lot haha, she’s sorta chill though and definitely doesn’t cry as much as Wren and Byrd used to (have you noticed we’re all named after birds yet? I guess my parents thought it was cute since our last name is Finch) Wren’s the ginger one with plaits! She’s pretty funny but she’s super grumpy sometimes and likes to bite and kick (not me though, she loves me) I think it’s cos she’s tired a lot cos she never sleeps at night, kinda like dad.. they’re twins but Byrd is way different, I couldn’t get a picture of him cos he kept running off, he’s crazy like that but he’s super snuggly and loves playing doctor! He likes to pretend to break my legs so I can’t go anywhere then fix them for me haha. Brothers and sisters are fun but they can be a pain in the butt sometimes! We have a cat called Lou too, his full name is Toulouse and he likes to bring us leaves from the garden and scream about ‘em, and he loves stealing food when you’re not looking.
Dad’s been teaching mom how to cook cos she sucks at it (don’t tell her I said that though cos I always pretend it’s not THAT bad) she’s sorta getting better though so I suppose the whole practice makes perfect thing pays off eventually. I got a school project to make a lame volcano that I didn’t wanna do as well, but my parents made me do it anyway.. we all know that real volcanoes aren’t full of baking powder and vinegar though so I dunno if there was much point to it but they seemed to think it was important so I did it anyway, at least I got a picture of it “going off” I guess. No one likes homework, even if it’s supposed to be fun, right?!
It’s cool you set Amber free!! I’m sure she’s happier wherever she is now so I guess you could just think of that when you miss her? The rocks are way cooler anyway! My aunt Aspen has loads of crystals too, sometimes she even charges them in the sun or the full moon.. I keep forgetting to ask her why but I’ll try and remember so I can tell you next time!
Hahaa your poor dad with those birds! I’ll definitely keep the picture cos it’s hilarious, Wren found it the funniest but don’t worry, I’ll keep the picture safe from her sticky hands! I have a hiding spot in the attic for all the stuff I don’t want them touching. I guess birdwatching is sorta fun sometimes but you’ve gotta be quiet (easy for me I guess.. hah!) I’m not sure there’s any other birds round here other than seagulls since we live right next to the sea, those are the ones you can hear the most anyway cos they never shut up! My dad jokes that he used to be a seagull in a past life cos he’s loud and greedy like they are lol.. he’s been building me a treehouse too, I bet that’d be good for birdwatching!! It’ll be super cool once he’s finished but it’s taking ages cos he mostly does it all by himself, I try n’ help sometimes but I’m still too small to carry or lift most things.. I wanna be as strong as him one day, he can build and fix almost anything (he swears a lot during it though haha!) Do you ever think about what you wanna be when you grow up? I don’t really think about that sorta stuff cos working sounds boring, especially if it’s as lame as school!!
I’m ten, by the way! How old are you and when’s your birthday? Mine’s February 22nd. I don’t think I have a favourite food, anything my dad makes is amazing cos he’s a good cook and my mom makes the BEST pancakes! We’re always stuffed after dinner but dad says (lies) that pudding goes in a different part of your stomach so there’s always room for cake haha.. I think I like it best when he makes spicy food but Wren and Byrd hate it so he doesn’t make stuff like that too often. It’s fun to see how much you can eat before your mouth feels like it’s on fire and I’ve decided I’m gonna beat him one day so he better watch out!!!
I didn’t know what to write at first but I guess I sorta ended up writing quite a lot since I had some catching up to do! Are you and your dad on holiday in the tower or are you living there for now? It sorta sounded like you’ve been there a long time, where do you usually live? What kinda stuff does your dad dig up for work? It’d be cool if he dug up dinosaur bones!! I watched something like that recently and they were HUGE!
It’s hard to think of questions on the spot but you can talk about anything you want too! I probably owe you a million answers as well so you can ask anything you want too! I had fun reading your letter and I’m glad we can be pen-pals even if we don’t get to see each other! Maybe next time we meet in person I’ll be able to say something, but writing would still be fun too so I guess it doesn’t really matter, right?
Love Robin c:
ps. I’m keeping the funny photo of you yelling at your dad and there’s nothing you can do about it!!
pps!! I don’t have a way to print out photos yet otherwise I’d have sent some new ones. Dad gave me an old polaroid ages ago but it’s still broken, his friend said he might be able to fix it though so hopefully I can use that next time. Mom said you can have some of our old ones and the ones from her disposable camera whilst we were on holiday for now though so I’ll send those to you as soon as they come back!

July 5th, 1985 - 4:05 am
Steve had already decided what he was going to tell his parents about the state of his face. He was at a party, he’d say, and got into a fight with some drunk asshole who was hitting on you a little too hard. He tried to tell him to fuck off, but the guy got mad and threw the first punch. Steve won, of course.
A semi-believable story that involved zero Soviet torture doctors.
You’d made it out of the night without any black eyes or broken noses, but there was a sizable gash peeking out from under your hairline. The blood that had dripped from your temple down to your neck had been wiped away by one of the EMT’s, so the cut was really only visible if you already knew it was there. It wasn’t bad enough to warrant stitches, thankfully, but that did very little to quell Steve’s incessant worry. He didn’t like the way your whole body was trembling. Or the way your tights were ripped.
It took hours for the two of you to be able to go home, made longer by the mountains of contracts and NDA’s you were forced to sign. Steve had already gotten the super secret security rundown twice before. “You’ll probably end up with a good chunk of hush money, at least,” he had joked with you. “All of us did.”
You trailed behind Steve like a lost puppy as he unlocked his front door. He was just happy that you were alive at all.
You, for whatever reason, hadn’t made it into the same interrogation room as Robin and Steve. You weren’t there when Dustin and Erica arrived to get them, and you were nowhere to be seen during the big fight. Steve hadn’t even realized that you weren’t with them until whatever he’d been injected with was out of his system, but he was plunged into an ice cold panic the moment that he did. He begged Hopper to let him go back and look for you, though the idea got shot down immediately (‘Because clearly, you did so great down there the first time!’). Funnily enough, it was actually Murray, of all people, who found you first. He said you were about two seconds away from breaking his nose, if not for the fact that you were chained to the steel bench built into the wall.
The house was empty. Steve’s parents were spending the holiday weekend with his aunt and uncle two states away; thankfully, Steve hadn’t been dragged along this time. He always thought his dad’s brother was a creep anyway. Your parents were across the street, most likely sleeping soundly at the thought that their daughter was just out at a house party like a regular 18 year old. Of course, nothing about any of this was regular.
Steve’s usual post-saving-of-world routine was to down two doses of ibuprofen, take the hottest shower known to man, and sleep for a day, and there was definitely a part of him that wanted to do just that, but you were still hovering behind him like a ghost. Steve clicked on the lamp on the table next to the sofa as the two of you entered the living room.
“Sit, okay?” he told you. “I’ll find you some pajamas or something.”
You nodded to him, sullen and shaky, and lowered yourself into the pristine couch. It was cream colored and satiny, like it was designed to be easy to stain, and Steve had never actually been allowed to sit on it when he was little.
His whole body ached, but he trudged up the stairs anyway. He ducked into his own room to quickly strip off his decidedly disgusting uniform and put on a too-big sweatshirt and a pair of sweatpants before picking out something for you. Steve came back down to find you wincing as you slowly pulled off your shoes.
“Jesus,” Steve remarked at the state of the white socks that slouched around your ankles over your tights. The backs were drenched in angry red, spread all the way around the heel and down the sides, and the nylon of your tights had big holes worn through that exposed just how ripped up the skin of your heels had become.
“I decided to put on new shoes this morning,” you sighed. “Hadn’t broken them in yet.”
While humiliating, he and Robin’s Scoops uniforms were actually pretty comfortable. The sneakers Steve had worn to work that day had held up wonderfully to all the walking (and running for his life) that he’d had to do all night, but you worked at one of the fancy department stores. You couldn’t wear sneakers or comfortable shorts, you had to wear smart, grown up clothes. You’d been running around all night in a pair of brand new, shiny black mary-janes and a skirt. It made Steve feel just a little bit sick to his stomach to think about.
“Fuck,” Steve huffed out. “Alright, hold on. There’s a first aid kit in the bathroom.”
Steve bandaged up your ankles, carefully cleaning the wounds with the softest cloth he could find and cursing himself when you made a noise at the pain.
God, this was all his fault.
“You can take the room next to mine, if you want,” Steve said after you’d changed. “My parents won’t be home until Monday, so we won’t have to worry about them at all.”
“Okay,” you said, voice mouseish. You’d been to Steve’s house a million times before; you grew up across the street, the only other person his age in a neighborhood full of elderly couples and houses for sale. Even before Steve de-assholed, you’d still sneak out of the house to come drink stolen beers on the roof of his garage on the nights when he couldn’t stand to sleep.
That being said, ‘welcoming’ was not really a word you’d use to describe the Harrington household. The guest room next to Steve’s was, similar to the living room, untouched and pristine. Perfectly made bed, easily palettable decor, somehow devoid of dust despite the fact that it was clear no one had used the room in a very long time. The bed had a pink comforter, a dusty-rose kind of color.
The two of you had only been apart for an hour, maybe less, before Steve heard a knock on his bedroom door. He opened it to find your teary eyes on the other side.
“Couldn’t sleep?” Steve asked. He couldn’t either.
“I can’t-” you stuttered out. “I don’t think I can be alone right now.”
Steve knew the feeling.
He stepped out of the doorway to make room for you to come in. The pair of you stood too close to one another in the middle of his room in heavy, suffocating silence.
“I’m sorry,” Steve whispered.
“Don’t be,” you replied. You stepped forward and pressed your forehead against his shoulder.
“I am, though. I got you wrapped up in this fucking mess,” Steve said as he wrapped you up in a hug. “And now you’re hurt, and it’s my fault.”
“I’m the one who wanted to help you guys. I could’a just gone home, but I chose to stay. You didn’t do that, I did.”
“I still think you deserve to be mad at me.”
You stayed quiet for a moment, with Steve above your head wishing he could go back in time and fix all of this before it had the chance to get back to you.
“They told me you were dead,” you admitted through the quiet.
“What?”
“After they pulled me away,” you explained. “You and Robin, they told me you were both dead.”
“Oh, my god,” Steve huffed out. “Oh, my god, I’m so sorry.”
You muttered his name into his collar bone, and Steve pulled away just enough to be able to look at you. You were crying now, but so was he, and fuck, he wanted to kiss you. Kiss all of the tears away, and pull all of the horrible, fucked up things that had happened to you out of your memory, and as you stood looking at him, Steve realized that you had gotten the memo.
You leaned up and kissed him, so incredibly soft, making sure to be careful of his split lip. Steve’s eyes fluttered shut as his hands came to meet the junction of your jawline and neck.
You pulled away from him first, tears still silently spilling from your eyes, and he touched his forehead to yours.
“I’m really happy you’re not dead.”
February, 1989
Steve was entirely zoned out behind the counter at Family Video when the shrill ring of the phone broke through his trance
“Thank you for calling your local Family Video. My name is Steve, how can I help you today?” Steve regurgitated the same spiel as he does every time he picks up the phone.
“What time do you get off work tonight?” you asked him. Steve knew your voice in an instant, and even through the crackle of the phone, he could hear that something was wrong.
“Eight. Why?” Steve inquired.
“I need you to come over,” you said. “It’s an emergency.”
Steve’s heart dropped into his stomach.
“Should I be calling Hopper?” he asked you. If something. . . upside down-ish was happening again, he was gonna lose his shit.
“No, nothing like that,” you clarified, and Steve let out a silent breath of relief. “It’s an entirely non-supernatural emergency.”
“Do you want me to come over now? I’m the boss-man. I can leave whenever I want,” Steve joked. He was trying his damnedest to hear your laugh come from the other end of the line.
“You’re a shift lead, Steve.”
“Yeah. Boss-man.”
There was only silence on the line for a moment.
“I don’t want you to get in trouble, is all,” you explained, and it made Steve's heart ache just a touch.
“It’s fine, I won't,” Steve said to placate your worry. “Twenty minutes, okay?”
“Yeah, okay,” you said, though you didn’t sound thrilled. It made Steve worry even more as he hung up the phone.
Steve knew the two of you were wildly codependent on each other. Believe him, Robin had been reminding him constantly over the past year since she’d caught the two of you in a house party bathroom.
The fact that the pair of you hadn’t actually made it official yet, despite the fact that you’d been sleeping with each other with relative consistency for three and half years, definitely didn’t help matters at all.
‘You are in love with her,’ Robin loved to point out. ‘And pretending to not be in love with her while also sleeping together is going to destroy your brain!’
She was right, of course. It absolutely was destroying his brain, but if he had to pick between having a destroyed brain but also having you, or not having a destroyed brain but also not having you, he’d pick a destroyed brain anyday. Even if he thought (knew) you didn’t necessarily feel the same way he did.
Steve parked his car in the empty space next to yours in your apartment building’s lot. He knew the code to the building’s door by heart now, and he’d had a spare key to your apartment for the last six months.
He let himself in, making sure to lock the door behind him once he was inside, and saw you shaking like a leaf on the couch.
Steve paused for a moment before he dropped his car keys onto the little table by the door. He was instantly plunged into crisis-management mode.
In recent years, Steve had become quite familiar with crisis management mode; put all the feelings to the side, and deal with the situation at hand. Was it healthy to stub out all of the mushy shit like that? No, probably not, but emotional healing was a lot easier to do when he didn’t have the threat of  interdimensional horror hanging over his head.
Though, over the phone, you had promised him there was no interdimensional horror at the moment.
He toed off his shoes and rounded the coffee table to crouch in front of you. Your eyes followed his every movement, wide and glassy and enough to make Steve’s rib cage feel like it was about to cave in. He took your hands in his.
“What happened?” he asked you.
You shut your eyes, forcing more tears down the slope of your cheek. A small, quiet sob escaped your lips as you dipped your forehead onto Steve’s shoulder. He brought a hand up to graze over the back of your head, holding you close to him.
You were tougher than you looked, always had been. That wasn’t to say that Steve ever thought you were weak, but you were timid and quiet. Shy since birth, you never really stood out to Steve as a fighter until he saw you crack a Russian soldier over the back of the head with his own gun. You’d had a fire in your eyes that could’ve rivaled Nancy’s that night, before you had all been separated from one another. That fire was decidedly missing right now, though. Your tears seemed to have extinguished it.
“Hey, hey. Tell me what’s going on, yeah?” Steve asked.
“I’m sorry,” you whimpered into his neck. You sounded small and, more pressingly, fucking terrified. Steve did his best to place a hand on either side of your face and pull back to get a good look at you, though you clearly didn’t want to be pulled away from your spot tucked into the collar of his crew-neck.
“Sorry for what, baby?” Pet names had previously been reserved for dirty-talk purposes only, but you’d started calling him ‘handsome’ a few months back as a joke (which quickly became much less of a joke), and now that rule had been thrown out the window. One more blurry boundary line in your relationship. “I wanna help, but I can’t do that if you don’t tell me what’s wrong.”
“Steve,” you murmured.
“You’re scaring me,” Steve told you, and it was true. “Is it something with your mom? Did she call?”
“No. She won’t. You know she won’t.”
“Then what’s happening? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this upset, and I will do everything I can to help, but-”
“I’m pregnant.”
You whispered it and Steve swore he felt his heart stop.
“What?” he whispered back. Surely you didn’t mean it. Surely he had to have misheard you.
“I’m pregnant.”
Definitely hadn’t misheard you, then.
“You-” It felt a bit like his brain had been replaced by cotton balls. “How sure are you?”
“Uhm, I took a test here, and it came back positive, but the box said that you can get false results sometimes, so I waited a couple days and took another one, but then that said the same thing,” you rambled. “So then, I went to that clinic on Poplar and got a blood test, and they called me earlier today and said that that one was positive, too.”
“Very sure,” Steve said in response to your onslaught.
You only nodded in agreement.
Steve could hear the drip drip drip of your leaky kitchen sink, the sound of your cat batting around his favorite toy mouse, your neighbors downstairs fighting like they did most nights. He could hear your ragged breathing, and the beginnings of your quiet sobs, and his own heartbeat in his ears. He didn’t know what to say to you, how to get you to calm down, and he didn’t think he had the mental capacity to figure it out right now, so he didn’t say anything at all. You stayed quiet too, tucked away in your own little world of the smell of Steve’s cologne and the soft of his hair.
Steve was about two seconds away from completely shutting down when your pitiful voice sliced through the silence.
“Steve, I don’t know what to do.”
That kicked his brain back into gear.
“That’s okay,” he said from his spot on the floor. His emotions get tucked underneath the floorboards so he can deal with yours first. “It’s okay. You don’t have to know right now.”
And you two stayed there, you on your couch and him with his back pressed against the hard edge of  your coffee table, for a good long while. Your sniffles had graduated to full on bawling and you were clinging to him like he was a liferaft. You were petrified. His head was swimming and he felt a little bit like his heart might explode, but he wasn’t about to let you know that.
Logically, the next step would be to talk about. . . all of it. What you wanted to do, and what that would look like, and all of it, but you weren’t able to get a word in. Even though Steve knew it was what needed to happen next, the thought of actually having to face the music made him feel sick.
“We’ll figure it out, alright?” Steve said into your hair. “We’ll figure it out. It’ll be okay. I promise.”
You just sort of fell limp against him once you had run out of tears. Steve’s back was starting to cramp up from being squished against the table, and when he moved to plant himself onto the sofa next to you, you stayed adhered to his side.
“Steve, I don’t-”
“I know. It’s okay.” I don’t know what to do had become your mantra of the evening. Steve was in the exact same boat, though, and the best idea he’d had all night was distraction, so distraction it would be. He paused for a moment before asking you, “are you hungry?”
You tilted your gaze to him, looking confused.
“How ‘bout I go and get us something to eat from that diner you like, and we can watch a movie or something. Then we can talk about it in the morning, yeah?” Steve suggested. You didn’t seem all that on board with the idea, though. “Is that okay?”
“I can’t keep anything down,” you explained after a moment.
Oh, yeah. People get sick when they're pregnant. Steve hadn’t really thought about that part yet.
“Right. Well, have you tried at all today?” he inquired. You shook your head.
“Not since last night.”
Great. You’re already terrified and now you can’t even eat.
“Look, I’ll get you a grilled cheese, and an extra large Sprite for your stomach in case the sandwich doesn’t work out, and I’ll stay here with you all night,” Steve said.
“Okay,” you said with a nod and a sad smile. You seemed to understand what he was doing, though you showed no signs of protest. “Do you want me to go with you?”
“No, it’s okay,” Steve said as he got up and slipped his feet back into his shoes. He scooped up his keys and shot you a smile before opening the door. “I’ll be quick, I promise.”
You nodded, giving him the green light to leave. He half-jogged down the stairwell and out into the parking lot, and he barely made it into the driver’s seat before he started crying.
Guilt settled in his chest in an instant at the thought, but the first thing that popped into his head when he was finally alone was that his dad was going to fucking kill him. And not just in a figurative, ‘oh no I scratched the car, dad’s gonna kill me’ kind of way; his father was going to pick up a weapon and actually kill him. Then, Hopper was gonna kill him after his dad did. You two weren’t even actually dating; how was he going to explain any of this? ‘Hey, dad! I accidentally knocked up my not-quite-girlfriend/best friend with benefits!’  That’ll go over splendidly. That’s two people added to the list of people who wanted to kill him.
What was going to happen next, then? He was having difficulty figuring out the answer.
Whatever you wanted to do, obviously, but you didn’t know what that was, and yeah, he was scared shitless, but you were beyond terrified. Scared in a way Steve had never seen you before. That made him feel about a million times worse.
‘Cause he was still just a shitty kid, who still lived with his shitty parents and worked a shitty job, and even with his shitty promotion, he still made a shitty wage. A shitty wage that definitely wouldn’t be enough to raise a kid, and-
He was spiraling, he could feel it, and he’d never been more grateful to see the glowing neon of an OPEN sign in his life.
He parked the car. He got out of the car. He opened the door to the restaurant. He walked up to the counter and a girl he used to know from high school took his to-go order. If he remembered correctly, she was a tattoo apprentice.
“You alright?” possible-tattoo-apprentice ask Steve after ringing in the food. “You seem a little, I don’t know, freaked out.”
“Yeah,” Steve replied with a tight lipped smile and curt nod. “Yeah, no. I’m good.”
She looked right through his lie, but moved on to a couple of older men sitting at the counter with coffee refills anyway.
Steve, in the ten minutes it took for the food to come out, stood leaning against the wall in utter silence. In that silence, he allowed himself to live in what was probably an irresponsible thought; the one where the two of you actually did have a kid, and a house, and maybe a dog if he’s lucky. Something that maybe was a lot less far off in the future than he thought. Steve used to want kids, when he was younger. Maybe it was just the fact that he’d had every single stereotype of the American dream shoved down his throat his whole life, but he really had wanted it at one point. That was before everything, though. Before the monsters, and the chaos, and all the awful shit he’d roped you into. Before it all came back, and then came back again, again, again. Any dream of a family had been stubbed out by the fear that it could all one day be ripped apart.
Despite that, despite the fact that he knew every single reason that it could never happen like the back of his goddamn hand, he did nothing to try and save himself from drowning in the fantasy. The image of you holding his baby made his chest go tight and he wanted it more than anything in the world, but fuck, what happens if everything goes to shit again? He had done a pretty awful job at keeping you away from it the first few times, you had the nightmares to prove it, so how could he possibly protect his kid from it, too?
The food came out and he was rocked back into reality.
He left the restaurant, stopping on the way back to your apartment at a 7/11 for the Sprite he had promised. He grabbed some anti-nausea medicine too, but it wasn’t until he got into the car that he realized there was a big warning on the back of the box: ‘Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.’
Awesome.
He did his best to scrub any evidence of tears out of his eyes in the rearview mirror, and got out of the car.
You were waiting for him on the couch, just as you had been when he had left. You smiled at him when he walked through the door, still the sad self pitying kind, but a smile nonetheless.
“I come bearing grilled cheese,” he said as he placed the bag on the coffee table. The joke didn’t land.
“You were crying?” you asked once you were able to get a good look at him, the shake in your voice back once again. Clearly he hadn’t done a good enough job in the rear view.
“N-no, no. I wasn’t, I-”
“You were,” you interrupted him, and Steve knew better than to try and deny it. You looked like you were about to start crying again, too, and Steve could feel the twist of the knife in his side. He rounded the table to sit next to you, and you drew yourself into him in an instant. Tucked into his arms, you did start crying again (how you had any tears left, Steve didn’t know) and just barely whispered, “I’m sorry.”
“Hey, hey. No sorries, okay?” he said. You wouldn’t look up at him, just shook your head. “Look, if we’re gonna blame anybody, it should probably be me, right?”
Thankfully, that line was enough to finally bubble a laugh out of your chest.
“I’m serious!” Steve took the joke and ran with it in a desperate attempt to lift your spirits even in the slightest. “I mean, it was my, y’know. . . fluids.”
“Oh, gross, dude!” you exclaimed, playfully slapping his shoulder as you sat up straight. “Don’t say it like that!”
“That’s just biology, babe.”
“I know that, I just don’t want to have to think about your fluids when I’m trying to eat,” you quipped at him as you pulled the styrofoam boxes out of the bag on the table, opening the first of the two and passing it his way. It seemed like you were feeling better, and even if you were faking it, Steve would take it.
“Hey,” Steve called to you through the quiet chatter of the TV after a moment. You turned your face to meet his and the moment his eyes locked on to yours, it seemed like every word he had wanted to say to you had slipped out of his mind. Your voice reeled them all back in, though.
“Yeah?”
“Whatever you wanna do, okay?” he stuttered out. He was pretty sure he might start crying again.
“Right. Yeah.” Your smile faded in an instant at the reminder of the situation.
“And whatever that, y’know, looks like,” Steve continues. “I’ll be right next to you, holding your hand the whole time.”
You give him a pitiful, heart crushing smile, and the pair of you didn’t bring it up again all night.

Buck may not be a paramedic like Chim or a qualified doctor like Hen or a field medic like Eddie. He may not have Bobby's impressive decades of experience or Ravi's desire to take every single LAFD training course there is in his spare time. But he's picked up a lot from his six years with the fire department, so he feels pretty confident in diagnosing Verne with a serious amount of internal bleeding.
But the ambulance has been and gone, back-up hasn't arrived, and everyone else is busy with patients in more critical condition, so Buck crouches down next to Verne and gets to work on starting a line.
"How are you doing, Verne?" Buck asks with a smile. "Any major discomfort or pain I should know about?"
"My back, and my hip," Verne sighs, "but they've been uncomfortable for over a decade now, kid."
"Well, the fact that you can still feel that discomfort is very promising, at least."
"Promising," Verne hums. "Sure, let's go with that." His eyes turn a little glassy, drift, unfocused, somewhere over his shoulder.
"Hey, Verne, stay with me, yeah?" Buck smiles when their eyes meet again. "That's it. You're gonna be okay."
"This isn't the first time I've died, firefighter Buckley." Verne shakes his head with a grimace. "I know how this goes."
"Then, you know you go to the hospital and come back to life," Buck says, a little desperation creeping into his words. He keeps seeing flashes of a pale blue shirt and hearing snatches of a realisation about happiness.
"Maybe when I was your age." Verne smiles weakly. "Got into an accident after picking my best friend up from a bad date. They said I died for two minutes in the ambulance."
"Two minutes, huh?" Buck palpates his ribs to distract Verne as he checks on the rapidly growing bruise on his abdomen.
"You ever died, kid?"
"For three minutes, actually." Buck grins up at him. "Not to brag." Verne huffs a laugh. "I was that firefighter that got hit by lightning."
"No kidding," Verne chuckles. "Pretty cool way to go."
"Oh, very cool, yeah." Buck nods, biting down on his lip as he checks to see if the others are free yet. They aren't. "The trippy dream I had during my coma was pretty cool too."
"Yeah?"
"Well, unsettling more than anything, but, uh, I made it back, so that's what counts." Buck wraps a bandage around the sluggishly bleeding cut on Verne's arm. He winces, groaning, and Buck panics. "You said you were driving your best friend home from a bad date?" Verne nods. "That's exactly what I was doing last night," he snorts. "See that firefighter behind me?" Buck jerks his head at Eddie over his shoulder.
"Diaz?" Verne coughs.
"Yeah." Buck smiles. "His aunt keeps setting him up on terrible dates, I've become his get out of jail free card."
"And what does that entail?" Verne asks, curiosity piqued, more alert than he had been a moment ago.
"I pick him up when there are no Ubers nearby, I call him with an emergency when he texts me 911, I answer the phone when one of the women calls him to schedule a second date and pretend to be his husband." Buck shrugs. "Its a lot of fun."
"Is it?" Verne coughs again, a wet noise that makes Buck's stomach drop. "Is it fun when he goes on the dates?"
"I mean, not really." Buck wrinkles his nose, thinks of that swoop of nausea in his stomach every time Eddie walks out of the door. "But I get to hang out with Christopher, Eddie's son, which is much more fun than a crappy date, you know?"
"Did your best friend watch you die?" Verne asks suddenly.
"I-" Buck blinks. "Yeah, he, um..." He clears his throat. "He was actually the one to get me down from the ladder, the one that got my heart beating again." Verne laughs heartily despite the fact that Buck can see the amount of pain it causes him.
"Oh, kid," he sighs, more of a wheeze. "The best friend I picked up from her date? I felt sick every time she told me about a new man."
Well, at least that's normal then. Buck had kind of been worrying he was going insane.
"Then, I died, and I married her a year later."
Buck remembers watching himself take his first breath without the ventilator from behind a window, remembers the way time had warped and stretched on forever and frozen all at once, remembers how his whole life had narrowed down to that one moment.
This feels a lot like that.
Suddenly, five years of friendship flash through his mind. Eddie's gloved hand in his, the only anchoring sensation in a sea of agony. Eddie's thumb on his neck, warm brown eyes a life raft when Buck had been drowning. Building a skateboard and pushing a kid made of sunshine around the park. The zing of happiness an elf had brought him after the sour curdle of disappointment that had hit him on a fountain. Eddie's hands big and warm on his waist. Eddie's smiles, wide and private alike. Eddie's eyes, always so fond and intent. Quiet discussions in the Diaz kitchen, and teasing banter in the loft. Nights with Chris squished between them on the couch, and the bright lights of a video game illuminating the living room. A legal document and a first name said so carefully. A broken door and a broken man alike. Couch metaphors and lasagnes and steaks and cookies.
Oh.
"I look forward to seeing her again," Verne murmurs quietly.
"Hey, no," Buck croaks. "Its not time yet, it isn't time for that yet."
"I think its been a long time coming, kid."
Verne's eyes flutter shut, his chest spasms with a final bloodied breath, and Buck's world shatters around him.

Bradley’s POV
I had been back at work for my first week of the full 12-hour shifts. In the morning I would go to training and go through the vigorous exercises to help my body get ready to withstand Gs again. I had been working on breathing techniques for the first week. It was hard because my abdomen was still healing. I knew I had to take it slow, but also put my 100% effort into it. Next week I would continue to work on my breathing because I failed the breathing maneuvers practice test. It really discouraged me, but I thought about you and the kids. I knew I had to just trust the process.
I came home from the last day of training for me for the week. I was beyond tired. I would go to training, then do some paperwork for my officers, go back out to the tarmac to instruct for flying, go back and do more paperwork, meet with each of my LTs to get them up to par with codes and protocols, train some more, then push more paperwork. Being a senior officer was tough and tiring. I’ve never had to do so much instruction and paperwork in my career with the Navy.
I came home more tired than I had been in a long time. I just wanted to take a shower, eat, and lay on the couch with the kids and you. When I walked into the house, it was like I walked right into a zoo. The boys were crying in the arms of Phoenix and Hangman, Austin was trying to console Leia, the house looked like a tornado hit it, and it smelled like rotting cheese in the house. I stood in the doorway frozen.
“Guys? Guys??” I was trying to catch at least one of them’s attention, but they were all frantic and focusing on each child they had. “Hello!”
They all looked over at me and Leia came running over to me, “Daddy!” She had tears in her eyes. I picked her up and held her close to me as I rubbed her back. The boys were still wailing while Phoenix and Hangman were trying to get them to stop.
“My girl. What happened? Where is momma?” I brushed Leia’s hair from her face and kissed her forehead. I looked at my daughter concerned.
She sniffled and wiped her nose with the back of her hand, “Momma went to her doctor's appointment and had to go to the store, Braddie pulled my hair really hard when I was playing with him and Luke. It really hurt.” She started to rub her head, “I know he didn’t mean it, but it really hurt, Daddy!” She started to cry hard as she held her head.
“Oh, my girl!” I held her close to me and kissed her head over and over again. “How about we get you some ice and a PB&J? How’s that sound, Leia babe?”
She sniffled and nodded. I brought her over to the counter and sat her on the top of it. I pulled out an uncrustable from the freezer and placed it on her head. “Let it thaw out on your head while I get the toaster.” I gave her a little smirk and poked her belly. She let out a little giggle and nodded. I brought out the toaster and I grabbed an ice pack. I replaced the sandwich with the ice and placed the uncrustable into the toaster. “Okay, my girl. Stay here. I need to check on your brothers, okay? Help your Aunt Nat and your Uncle Jakey.” She nodded and continued to hold the ice to her head.
I jogged over to my wailing boys. “Oh, what did the bad people do to you boys?” I chuckled as I went over and gave them both kisses on their hot ass heads. “Jesus Christ, how long have they been cryin?” I grabbed Bradley from Hangman and started to bounce him in my arms. “Daddy’s here, Bradley boy. It’s okay.” I started to shush him as I continued to soothe him.
“They’ve been crying for probably 10 minutes. They both have clean diapers, and both DEFINITELY fed, played with, burped… everything. I have no clue what happened.” Jake rubbed the back of his neck as he tried to think of anything else.
Bradley started to settle down in my arms and I chuckled. “They probably just miss their daddy is all.” I pulled Brad back to look at his face, a little smirk appeared when he looked at me. “I am so sorry for leaving you boys here with these strange crazy people!” I said in my mushiest baby talk. “Daddy promises to not stay this late at work again. I’m so sorry, baby.”
Bradley started to giggle in my arms. I handed him back to Hangman, so I could help Phoenix with Luke. He was still ballistically crying. “Come here my Lukey-bear.” I grabbed him from Phoenix and started to bounce him as he screamed at the top of his lungs. “AWHHH! I KNOW!” I agreed with him in my once again muckiest baby talk. “You were stuck here with the bad people! I am so sorry, my love.” I rubbed his back as he cried into my shoulder.
“Daddy! Can I eat my PB&J now? It popped out of the toaster!” Leia called over to me.
I nodded and made my way over to her. I grabbed the PB&J and unplugged the toaster. I placed the sandwich on a paper towel. “Let it cool off a little bit, babe.” I kissed her head and continued to place the toaster away as I continued to console Luke.
He started to calm down little by little as I kept telling him it was okay and I rocked him in my arms. I pulled him from my shoulder and looked at him in his tear-filled eyes. I continued to talk him down. “Hi, my handsome boy. You’re okay. I promise. Daddy is here now. It’s okay.” His little lip kept quivering and I kept shushing him. “You’re okay my boy. I love you. Daddy loved you so much.” I placed little kisses on his tear-stained cheeks causing him to give me his first pair of puppy dog eyes.
“Oh, man. Those are going to be the death of me. Courtesy of myself. Shit.” I sniffled as I tried to hold back my tears. It was the cutest thing I had ever seen in my life. “You’re okay, I’m here, babe.” I gave him a couple of kisses on his lips and he giggled from the tickling of my mustache. “There’s what I love to hear.” I smiled at Luke as he continued to giggle.
“Damn, Bradshaw. Who would have ever thought?” Phoenix laughed and shook her head.
I squinted my eyes at her and jerked my head back as I handed Luke back to her. “What are you talking about, Trace?” I made my way back over to Leia to check her head.
She held Luke against her hip and bounced him. “I mean who would have thought that you over a year and a half ago, would be such a good and responsible dad of three?” Phoenix started to laugh.
“Yea, seriously, Rooster.” Hangman laughed. Austin just looked at the three of us confused before he made his way over to Phoenix to play with Luke.
I checked Leia’s head and removed the ice pack. “Feeling better, babe?” I raised my brows at her and she nodded. I smiled and handed her her PB&J.” Good!” I kissed her forehead and put the ice pack back into the freezer.
I leaned against the counter next to Leia, “You guys suck. Out of all of you, and I mean the WHOLE squad. I was most responsible. Straight from the get-go, I was gonna be a great and responsible dad.” I rolled my eyes at the both of them. “Now. The real question is… Why the…” I covered Leia’s ears, “Fuck does my house smell like spoiled and rotting cheese?”
The three of them looked at each other and looked over at the pile of diapers near the trash can. I followed their gaze. “Guys. Really? What the hell?” We all started to laugh together as I went and cleaned up the pile of death to throw away outside.
~~~~~
I went upstairs to clean up and get out of my work clothes. After I was finished, I sat on the edge of the bed and took a little breather. I sat there and thought about how you have been such a good mom and have been handling all 8 of the kids that are in this house. I sighed and smiled. I was so lucky to have someone like you. I just didn’t know how you were so good at it.
What if I’m not enough? Am I lacking? Are Phoenix and Hangman actually really shocked that I can be a dad?
Hangman came into the room and sat next to me. “You alright, Rooster?”
I nodded and chuckled. “Yea. I’m good. Y/n home yet?” I looked at him with a raised brow.
He shook his head. “Nah, not yet. Maybe she’ll return the favor. She’ll be back when the boys are 7 and Leia 14.” He raised his brows at me and gave me a devious smile.
I gave him a blank stare and blinked my eyes at him. “Fuck you, Seresin.”
He started to laugh and winked at me, “When?”
I rolled my eyes and shoved him off my bed. “You’re an asshole, dude.” I started to laugh as he got up off the floor.
“You know. It was a good joke, Bradshaw.” He laughed and slapped me on the back.
I stood up and shook my head at him. “Yea, Yea. Fuck off. Where are my kids?” I started to chuckle as we made our way downstairs.
“MOMMA!” Leia yelled as you walked through the door.
Jake nudged his elbow into me. “She’s 7 years early, bro.”
I scoffed and shoved Hangman down the remaining steps of the stairs. You looked up at us as he stomped down hard trying to hold onto the railing so he wouldn’t fall. You looked at both of us with wide eyes as you kissed Leia’s head.
“What’s going on here, boys?” You started to laugh as you removed your shoes.
I walked over to you with open arms, “Just Bagman being Bagman, babe.” I kissed you over and over again. “I missed you so much, sweetheart.” I held you tight in my arms and embraced your warmth against me.
“I missed you too, Brad.” You hugged me a little tighter. You pulled back and smiled at me. “How was work today?”
I laughed and shook my head. “Babe, forget work. Guess what I walked in on when I got home today.” I looked at the three stooges.
They all looked at me with wide eyes and shook their heads at me. I looked at them with my brows raised and my head cocked to the side. I mouthed at them, “Oh really, now? You don’t want me to?” As I pointed at you. They all waved their arms to signal “NO!”
You turned around and looked at all four of us. All our shenanigans stopped. You smiled at all of us, “What did you walk in on?”
I sighed. “Oh, you know.” I looked at the three of them as they grew nervous. “Just the best godparents in the world taking care of our children.” They relaxed in relief. I squinted at all of them.
You smiled at the three of them and went over to give them a group hug, “You guys are the best! Thank you so much for watching our babies while I went to my appointment and Brad was at work. I knew I could count on you all!”
They all hugged you back and they all looked at me nervously. I shook my head at them all and laughed because none of them had the guts that Daddy Bradley had to come to their rescue. Leia came back over to me and jumped into my arms.
She got close to my ear and whispered, “Are we just not gonna tell momma we were all crying?” She looked at me with big eyes.
I chuckled and nodded. “You got it, babe. This stays between us.” I poked her nose and she giggled.
She saluted me and nodded, “Yes, sir.” We both laughed and I squished her tummy before letting her back down.
~~~~
Later that night, you and I brought Leia to her room to tuck her in for bed. You kissed Leia on her forehead and smiled. “So my Leia Rey. Your birthday is in a week. What do you want to do for it?”
I smiled at her and raised my brows. “What you think, my girl?”
She pushed her lips together and looked around the room. “Hmmm. I don't know?” She giggled. “I just want to spend time with everyone and my brothers. I don’t wanna party or anything. I just want to watch movies.” She smiled at you and me.
You and I looked at each other with raised brows. “Sweetheart, are you sure? You don’t wanna invite your friends over for a party?”
She shook her head at me and looked down as she played with her fingers. “Can I have a party in San Diego? With Papa Mav, Penny, Amelia, and my uncles?”
You and I looked at one another again. Our poor girl was homesick and missed everyone back home. You sighed and placed your hand on Leia’s hands. “I wish we could go back right now, Leia.”
She smiled and held your hands, “It’s okay, momma. I understand that Daddy has to work. I just thought I could ask.” She kissed your hands and got comfortable in her bed. “I’m sleepy now. Give Luke and Braddie a kiss good night for me. Night momma and daddy. I love you.”
We both gave her another kiss and left the room. We went back into our room and laid down. The boys were fast asleep in their bassinets. I looked at you sad and you looked at me the same.
“Sweetheart, If you want, You, Leia, the boys, and Austin can go back to San Diego for Leia Rey’s birthday. I don’t want her to be sad.”
You sighed and laid against my chest, “Bradley.”
I shook my head and then laid it on top of yours. “No, sweetheart I am serious. I can ask Mav and Penny to come and get all of you so you can have extra help. I just want her to be happy for her birthday.”
You looked up at me and shook your head, “Bradley. That is sweet of you, but I think Leia would be even more sad if she didn't have her daddy with her to celebrate.”
I played with your hand in mine. “I just don’t want her to be sad. I know she misses everyone back home. I just want what’s best for her. Even if that means you guys go back home for a while.”
You shook your head and kissed my cheek. “We aren’t going anywhere without you, Bradley. And I assure you, Leia would say the same.”
I pushed my lips together and kissed your forehead before we fell asleep. “I love you, babe. The offer will still stand if you change your mind.”
~~~~~~~~
Your POV
Over the next week, you and Bradley had been prepping something for Leia’s birthday. On the day of her birthday, you had asked Jake, Nat, and Austin if they could take the kids to Evelyn and Phantom’s house as you and Bradley set everything up for Leia’s party.
You and Bradley didn’t want to not celebrate your daughter. It would be her first birthday in another state, with her dad, and her brothers. You wanted it to be extra special for her because you all wouldn’t be where you are now without her.
You and Bradley loaded up the truck with all the party supplies and headed down to the beach. This year for Leia’s birthday theme, It was going to be Leia’s Luau. You and Bradley picked a spot on the beach to set up.
You had invited some of Leia’s friends from school and Bradley invited some of his pilots and their families to celebrate Leia on her special day. It was going to be a small gathering for her. You and Bradley wanted to surprise her. Bradley played music as you both continued to put the party together.
You and I by Rebelution (I fuckin love them and this song 😭) starts playing-
Bradley put down The last tiki statue by the entering pathway of the party and ran over to you. He took the tiki torch from your grasp and threw it on the ground as he spun you around into his arms.
“Bradley Bradshaw! What the heck?” You started to laugh.
He chuckled as he held you close to him. “Sweetheart, I owe you this little dance for everything you’ve done for this family in the last year. You deserve more of a break, but let's take this little one right now, together, and dance.”
You grabbed his hand and held it in yours. “I’d love to.”
I can’t deny my heart beats for you… You can’t deny these sparks, set the mood. Here’s my hand forever. Hold it tight together. You and I.
Bradley kissed the back of your hand and held you close to his chest as you both slowly danced to the song in the middle of Leia’s party setup. You closed your eyes and listened to Bradley’s heartbeat and the way his chest vibrated as he sang softly.
“You and I. I wanna waste some time. Right by your side. Watch the day fly by and not even mind. I can’t deny my heart beats for you.” He laid his head on top of yours and gave it a kiss. He placed both hands on your back and rubbed it slowly. It was nice to finally have some alone time for you and Bradley. You both hadn’t had something like this in a long time.
“I love you, Bradley, Always.” You smiled as you held onto him tighter.
You could hear him smile. “And I love you, Sweetheart, forever.”
I’ll wait for you my dear, for the day. You say I do, my dear, and drift away. Hold my hand forever, fly away together, You and I.
~~~~~
You and Bradley finally finished setting up Leia’s Luau. You looked at your phone and it was almost time for everyone to start showing up. You and Bradley did one more walk-through of everything to make sure you hadn’t forgotten anything. In the front, Bradley had set up two tiki statues to signify the entry point of the party. Then there was a walkway that was lit up with tiki torches on either side and flowers scattered all over the walkway that led up to the party set up. When you got to the party area, there was a sign that said, “Aloha! Please take a LEI-a!” And it was full of pretty colorful Leis on each side. Then there was a picture moment area with a backdrop for all guests to take pictures with the Polaroid camera. Next to the picture set up was another pair of tiki torches with string and clothes pints attached so everyone could add. Their pictures as memories for Leia to look back on. Then there was a tent set up for the food and drink area. There was a drinks table for kids and one for adults. There were pineapple bouquets set up on each table. There was a food table where food would be placed for serving and then another table for Leia’s cake and other sweets.
You and Bradley smiled at each other and sighed. “We are all set, sweetheart. Hangman and Phoenix will bring the games when they come with Austin, Leia, and the boys.”
After a while, all the guests started to show up. Everyone was dressed for the Luau. Some of the kids were already making their way to the ocean to play and build sandcastles. Jake and Nat had texted Bradley to let them know they were all on their way. Phantom and his family arrived. Evelyn had made some cupcakes for Leia’s cake table. She brought them over to you and smiled.
“Honey, it was so hard to hide these from Leia. She kept wandering the house as if she were looking for them!” She started to laugh as she placed a kiss on your cheek before placing them on the cake table. Bradley went and greeted Phantom. They all brought gifts for Leia. She was loved by so many people, she was going to be spoiled here like she was back in San Diego.
Phantom and Bradley came over to you and Evelyn. “Where is the birthday girl? Are they all on their way? They left a little after we did.” Phantom came and gave you a hug.
You nodded and smiled. “Nat and Jake said they are almost here. So she will definitely be surprised when they arrive and she sees there is a ‘Luau’ going on.”
Phantom smiled and patted you and Bradley on the back. “You both did such a great job with little time! I wish you would have asked us for more help. But we are happy to be a little distraction while you both came out and did this for her.”
Bradley laughed and shook his head. “How did she react when you all wished her happy birthday when you saw her?”
Phantom recreated Leia’s face by slapping his hands on his cheeks making his eyes super wide and opening his mouth. You and Bradley started to laugh. “That’s our girl. We didn't get to say anything to her because we were unfortunately already gone before she woke up to head over to your house.” Bradley pushed his lips together. “So hopefully this’ll make up for it and she doesn’t think we forgot one of the most important days of the year.”
And with that Bradley's phone buzzed and he looked at it. He looked at you and Phantom and smiled. “They’re here. You know what that means.”
Bradley called around to everyone and got them all in order. “Alright everyone in your stations. The birthday girl will be here any minute now!”
Everyone gathered around and waited for Leia to show up with Austin, Nat, Jake, and the boys.  You and Bradley stood patiently and eager to see Leia’s face. Bradley slung his arm over your shoulder and held you close.
“Here she comes, sweetheart!”

Bloodied petals - Xavier Thorpe x reader | Part.6
Summary: It’s time for you to disclose the truth about your condition to Principal Weems…and Xavier. But how much of that are you willing to share? Parents’ week-end brings a surprising new meeting.
Warnings: angst, mentions of blood, swearing; mention of cancer and incurable diseases.
A/N: it almost has fluff parts if you squint. Also there’s a lot of dialogues in there fsjbfhbs
[Masterlist] [Part.1] [Part.2] [Part.3] [Part.4] [Part.5]
Tumblr media
Silence weighed heavy in the small hospital room. No one uttered a word, waiting for the other to speak first. Unfortunately for you, Principal Weems had a lot less patience than you.
Before your stubborn silence she let out a frustrated sigh. “Fine,” she said dryly, “if you don’t want to talk, then I will. Your fellow students found you passed out in the woods, allegedly coughing blood and flowers. We brought you to the ICU, and doctors performed a scan, because heart massages weren’t enough.”
Weem’s words made you gulp slowly, as they reminded you how far the disease had already spread. Although her tone was very serious, the principal couldn’t deny the evident worry in her voice.
“You almost died, miss L/N,” she said in a softer, yet very much serious voice. “Doctors had to put you under respiratory support for half an hour before you could breathe on your own.”
A shiver ran down your spine. Shit, this was way, way more concerning that you had thought. The principal seemed to notice the level of distress it put you in, and softened.
“According to Mr Thorpe, you had experienced a panic attack earlier in the evening, is that true?”
You could only nod slowly, throat tight with emotions.
“Doctors think it’s what caused momentary heart failure,” she carried on. “But the scan results certainly intrigued them.”
Your eyes unwillingly glanced down the x-rays on your lap, showing large flowers on the inside of your lungs quite clearly. This time you wouldn’t be able to hide the truth.
“I’ve managed to convince them it was a very specific condition due to some family history,” she said casually, trying to sound as calm as possible. “Not that it had been easy.”
“Thank you,” you muttered, still not meeting her gaze.
The unexpected sound of your voice made her look at least slightly pleased. This was a good start.
“It’s my job as Nevermore’s Principal,” she said pointedly. “But there’s no need trying to play games with me, miss L/N, and I will not leave this room before I get some answers.”
Ah, there was the accusatory tone again. But you couldn’t tell Weems anything, what if she told everyone the truth? What if Xavier became ridden with guilt? Oh god, what if he shut you out again?
“I can’t,” you muttered, hands slightly trembling. “I can’t tell you.”
At your distressed state, Weems’ behavior changed to a mothering one in the blink of an eye and she reached out to put one of her hands on yours.
“You have to, Y/N,” she said softly but firmly, “according to those scans flowers are growing inside of your lungs, this is very concerning!”
“I can’t,” you cried, breaking down under the overwhelming emotions rising in your throat, “I can’t tell you, please.”
This time, her tone became more insistent, “I need to know, so I can call your aunt and inform her of the situation.”
The mention of your aunt made your blood freeze in your veins and you whipped your head so fast you thought your neck would break. Eyes wide open, you stared at Weems like a deer stuck in headlights.
When Weems called your name worriedly, the shivers that had momentarily stopped rocked your whole body once again.
“No, no no no no you can’t call my aunt, you can’t!” you whimpered, tears flowing down your cheeks uncontrollably. Nerves wrecked, you were beginning to sound straight up hysteric.
“She’s your legal guardian, I have to keep her informed,” she insisted, trying to calm you down, but nothing seemed to work.
You shook your head frantically, “Please,” you begged her, “please don’t tell her, I…you can’t tell her please.”
The cries turned into pathetic whimpers, until all you could do was to sob quietly, not caring if the Principal of the school were here to witness all of this. You were so tired.
“She will know eventually,” said Weems softly, trying to not trigger another tearful setback. “She’s your guardian, and we need to tell her what’s going on.”
Sniffling loudly, you let her words sink into your mind, the raging tempest within gradually calming down. Deep down, you knew that Weems was right. Your aunt was bound to find out one way or another, whether from the principal or yourself. So you whipped your nose and tentatively looked up to the Principal with puffy red eyes.
“I…I can’t tell you everything…but let me be the one telling my aunt,” you mumbled weakly. “Please…it’ll be easier for everyone…”
For a brief moment, Weems wanted to object to your demand. But the sight of your tear-stained face and pleading eyes refrained her. Seeing one of her usually strongest and most composed students having an heartbreaking emotional breakdown…she just knew she didn’t have to make things more difficult.
So she pursed her lips, and sighed heavily, “Fine. You can be the one informing your aunt.”
“Thank you,” you whispered faintly. “I…this means a lot to me.”
She sat deeper in her chair, eyeing the x-rays sheets once again, “I suppose you know what’s all about?”
You nodded slowly, and your following silence was enough sign for her to understand you wouldn’t divulge much more about it. “It’s spreading day by day,” you said in a small voice, “this…there’s no cure for this.”
She could only offer you a sorry look, darkened by the weight of those news. You and Principal Weems hadn’t always seen eye-to-eye, but she had been kind. She wanted to keep Nevermore students safe; and despite her efforts, you were going to die.
“I’m sorry to hear that, miss L/N,” she muttered quietly. “Is there anything we can do to ease this…cancer?”
Again, you shook your head. “Not really…I just want all of this to go smoothly, without too much damage…”
She nodded in understanding, raising slowly from her seat, “I see. If there’s anything you need to ease your struggle…do not hesitate to reach me.”
You let out a small thanks. Just as she was about to open the door, Principal Weems turned to you once more.
“I’m truly sorry for you, Y/N. I hope all of this will go smoothly for you.”
Even through blurry eyes, you forced a weak smile on your face, “Thank you ma’am.”
As soon as Weems exited your room, you let tears fall down your face. God, if you were getting this emotional just by getting a goodbye from the principal, then the evening of the Rave’n had weakened you more than you had thought.
A soft knock on the door pulled you out of your thoughts and you managed to whip away the corner of your eyes just in time before a familiar face stepped into the room.
“Hey,” greeted Xavier softly.
“Hey,” you said with a weak smile, heart soaring at his appearance.
No matter what happened before, you were so relieved to see him. You had almost died the previous night, and you remembered him running to your help before you blacked out. Disease or not, you loved Xavier and he was still your best friend; no matter how awkward things had been between you two the days before.
Approaching you carefully, he fidgeted nervously with a small bag which made you smile softly. At his awkward hesitation, eyes glancing to the chair next to the bed, you chuckled softly and shifted a little.
“C’mon don’t play coy,” you breathed out, patting the spot next to you on the bed. “You’re missing the sleepover.”
The joke made him break into a small laugh, easing the awkward tension and he indulged, sitting on the edge of the bed. He gave the small bag he was holding, unsure of where to begin.
“Here, it’s for you,” he said, “a get-well soon gift.”
Opening the bag to retrieve what was inside, you smiled softly at the cute pumpkin plushie. At the familiar let long-gone spark of fondness and genuine happiness in your eyes, Xavier felt his heart soar. He had missed this.
“This is super cute, thank you,” you smiled at him.
“Anytime,” he said before a weird silence took place again. Slightly shifting on his seat, he finally managed to ask you, “How are you feeling?”
As if echoing his question, your whole body whined in pain, “Feeble,” you rasped, “tired. Nothing a good night of sleep won’t fix I guess,” you told him, with what you hoped was a reassuring smile.
But the deep concerned look on Xavier’s face didn’t fade. “Except it won’t, will it?”
You casted your eyes down. No need to play dumb any longer; Xavier must’ve suspected something for a long time, but after what happened the night before, there was no need in lying.
“No it won’t,” you whispered.
He had probably seen Weems exiting your room with a dreadful expression. Given that and what he had seen in the woods…the image of your sprawled body, chest struggling to rise through the wheezes, the white outfit stained with red paint and blood burned his mind like hot iron. The way your eyes were clouded by the unconsciousness creeping, unable to focus as he had shouted your name, begging you to say something but your mouth unmoving and only drooling droplets of blood…little did the both of you know, this would haunt him for the longest time.
Leaning forward, Xavier took your hand in his. They were bigger than yours and calloused from his hours spent painting. Even if it wasn’t the first time the two of you held hands, it felt highly intimate.
“How bad?” he asked in a small voice, throat tight with emotion. He couldn’t even look at you, instead focusing on your intertwined hands; he feared that if he did, the tears already gathering at the corner of his eyes would spill. He had to be strong for his best friend.
“Pretty much shitty bad,” you mumbled.
“How bad?” he insisted, and you could swear you heard his voice break a little.
You gulped slowly, close to crying again, “Incurable kind of bad,” you finally managed to breath out after agonizing long seconds of silence.
Despite his best efforts to keep composure, Xavier choked on a broken sob. Maybe he had been in denial about this the whole time, maybe you were just very good at hiding it; no matter, hearing the truth was like a punch in the gut. Looking up at you with eyes full of tears, he looked completely broken.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he whispered in disbelief.
Despite the tears tickling your eyes, you tried to smile, “I couldn’t burden you with that, Xav. It’s…this is not an ordinary disease.”
He frowned slightly mouth agape, not quite understanding what it was all about. Picking up the x-ray sheets you silently handed them to him. The crease between his brows only deepened in confusion the more he looked at them, eyes flickering back to you with a silent question, like he didn’t dare to ask. You could only nod slowly, confirming the terrible fate those sheets already predicted. Xavier swore under his breath.
“Shit, it’s growing in your lungs?”. At your nod he swore again, “That’s why you’ve been coughing flowers…”
Your eyes widened slightly in surprise, “You noticed?”
“Been picking up some details since the Poe cup, yeah…” he trailed, “but I wish I'd figured things out sooner.”
You squeezed his hand, the one still gripping yours, “You couldn’t know,” you tried to reassure him. “Even I had a hard time finding out what it is.”
“Yes I could have known,” he whispered looking deep into your eyes, “you’ve tried to tell me so many times, and I…I was an idiot. I’m so sorry I wasn’t there for you.”
His words made your lips wobble and your eyes fuelling with tears once again. This sight was all it took for him for muttering a “c’me here” and tugging you into a hug. His contact made you break into tears, ugly sobbing on his shoulder. God, you were so not ready to say goodbye to him.
Your hands gripped on his back, like it could allow you to cling onto life a little longer. No matter how much all of this was because of him, you couldn’t wrap your mind around the idea of losing him forever. Xavier had always been your anchor, your best friend through everything no matter who his feelings had been directed to. And now…now you have cornered yourself to the point where even his presence wouldn’t be enough to save you from drowning.
“I’m scared Xav,” you sobbed against his neck, “I’m so fucking scared of dying.”
His hand drew soft circles on your back, trying to soothe you the best he could; but also to remind him that you were still here. “I know sweetheart,” he whispered, head buried against yours.
The truth was he had no idea what to say to you to make you feel better; if you weren’t shaking, you could have felt him trembling too. Tears rolled on his cheeks in silence; he was so scared of losing you too. So he did the only thing he could do for now; he cradled you in his arms, occasionally pressing soft kisses on your hair, hoping this would ease you at least a little bit. In all of his life, Xavier had never felt so helpless.
As your sobs continued, a part of you started to be plagued with guilt for not telling Xavier what was exactly going on. The perspective of an upcoming death and the inevitable loss it would entail was painful enough, the last thing you wished for was for him to be guilt ridden.
When you seemed to calm down a little, Xavier swallowed thickly, voice full of tears, “Is there anything we can do?”
Despite the guilt, you shook your head and his heart broke a little more.
It wasn’t his fault you thought, no one could decide their feelings; the gradual decay of your own body would be dreadful enough for Xavier, there was no need of making him think it was actually his fault. You would take this secret with you in the tomb, that you swore to yourself.
“I’ve tried to curb it with a potion but it didn’t work,” you admitted weakly. “I thought that weed killer would work.”
His eyes widened, “Weed ki– Y/N that shit’s toxic as fuck!”
Ashamed, you cast your eyes down, “I just tried to fix this.”
Xavier squeezed your hands, “This isn’t fixing anything, you’ve basically been poisoning yourself!”
“And what was I supposed to do?” you snapped back, eyes full of tears. “Waiting patiently for this to kill me? Stay here and do nothing? Fuck Xavier, do you have any idea of how painful this is?”
The gradation in your voice’s volume made your body tremble like a leaf. The anger and bitter sadness had risen up so suddenly, you hadn’t noticed your knuckle turning white as you gripped Xavier’s hand tightly. Realizing how much he had upset you Xavier quickly brought you into another hug, whispering apologies and shushing sounds into your ear. The angry bubbling turned into sobs, and soon you ended up whimpering in Xavier’s arms again.
After a few moments, you sniffled. “Just…can you stay by my side?” you asked with a small voice. “I don’t want to be alone before…before it ends.”
Xavier lifted your chin, making you look up at his glossy hazel eyes. The emotions they held seemed enough to bring a man to his knees. “Of course,” he breathed out softly, “I’m not going anywhere, I promise.”
Despite the hot tears starting to flow again a relieved smile stretched your trembling lips. “Thank you,” you whispered, and hugged him again.
For now, all you wanted was to spend as much time as you could with Xavier. Even if it was only as his best friend, it was already enough for you. The time you had spent together had always been your oxygen, something that got you through the days. It could help to push away the crushing fear of dying long enough. It had to.
Gently tugging you from the hug, Xavier pressed his forehead against yours, “You’re my girl, remember? There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you.”
You tried to smile weakly, “Thank you…”
He kissed your forehead so softly, like you were made of glass. His own selfish behavior from the previous weeks taunted him at the back of his mind, plaguing him with guilt. Why didn’t he pay more attention? Why has he let himself be blinded by some weird fascination for a girl who clearly didn’t give shit about him, while his own best friend was fighting for her life?
Tightly gripping one of your hands, he almost wanted to cry. He had been such a fool.
“Hey,” you said, gently tugging his hand to make him look at you, “it’s gonna be okay, alright?”
He shook his head in defeat, “It’s not fair,” he mumbled to try to hide his broken voice, “I wish we had more time.”
Smiling weakly, you intertwined your fingers together, “We had plenty already. I don’t regret anything.”
Xavier looked up at you; behind the crestfallen look in your eyes, he knew that you were, among other things, referring to your kiss.
“But I do,” he said softly.
Suddenly your heart dropped in your stomach, and for the briefest moment you felt like the world had stopped. Seeing your frozen state, Xavier quickly took your other hand with him in a comforting manner.
“I regret not having given more time to think about us,” he clarified.
Eyes widening, you could only gap at him in disbelief. “You thought about us?” you whispered. He nodded. After how the previous discussion about this topic had ended and his rejection after you kissed…you didn’t believe you’ll talk about this ever again.
“But I thought…you said…”
“Yeah,” he croaked awkwardly, “I know what I said, I’ve been a jerk. And I’m sorry that I’ve hurt you sweetheart, I truly am.”
Casting your eyes down, you didn’t have the heart to tell him that he hadn’t. He definitely had.
“I can’t force you to love me that way if you don’t,” you said feebly. One of his hands came to cradle your cheek, turning your face to him once again.
“But what if I want to?” he said, eyes almost pleading. “What if I want to give it a shot? To give us a chance?”
This took you off-balance for a second. At first you gasped at his words, then frowned slightly.
“I don’t want to force your hand on your feelings for a charity case Xavier,” you warned with a trembling voice. “I don’t need pity-feed love, please.”
His eyes widened, “What? No! Y/N I promise, it’s not that,” he assured, softly stroking his thumb over your cheekbone in an attempt of a soothing gesture. “I know the timing isn’t the best, but I promise you that I’m honest with you.”
Looking at him with big watery eyes, you still quite couldn’t believe what you were hearing. “You really want to try this?” you whispered as he nodded with a faint smile. “But…I mean after we kissed…”
Once again, his own previous actions seemed to embarrass him, “I know, I– I didn’t really think then, I’ve been dumb. But after that I started to…to think about this more and more.”
“Then why…why did you invite Bianca?” you asked, still dumbfounded.
“I didn’t want to be the guy playing with your heart,” he said with sad eyes, “not after you had admitted that- that you loved me.”
Hearing him saying it out loud, for the first time ever, made your heart swell and you couldn’t help but smile softly at him, which made him smile too.
“I’ve come to realize that, maybe…maybe I could love you too.”
His words made you frown once again, “I don’t want you to force yourself.”
“I’m not I promise,” he insisted, mentally cursing at himself for his poor choice of words. “I care about you Y/N, a lot. And,” he added with an almost shy smile, “I’ve thought about you as more than a friend before. Often.”
Tears came to your eyes; this time, with joy. “You did?”
“Yeah,” he smiled, “I’ve been wondering recently…why I hadn’t let you in that way.”
That brought an almost sorry look in your eyes. Xavier had the tendency to torture himself – must be his artistic side. No doubt he was giving himself as much hard time as he could about this.
“What changed your mind about this?” you asked softly, curious.
Xavier nervously rubbed his neck, “Well, I had the thought hidden at the back of my mind for a long time but…I guess getting a little push helped.”
Your eyebrows rose, “A push?”
He let out an awkward chuckle, “More like life advice laced with threats from Enid, then Wednesday…definitely more threats on her side.”
That made you laugh a little, picturing the scene in your mind. You could definitely imagine them roasting Xavier to politeness’ limits.
“Bianca spoke to me about this too,” he added.
“She did?” you asked in surprise, “what did she say?”
“Something along the lines of me being an idiot,” he grinned shyly. A laugh escaped your throat, soon followed by Xavier’s.
“Yeah that sounds like something she would say,” you agreed between light laughs. “But seriously,” you added more quietly after a few moments of guiltless euphoria, “why now?”
He hesitated, almost looking ashamed of himself.
“I guess it just started to make sense recently.”
“How so?” you frowned.
“I think the best friend tag put me in more denial than I thought,” he shrugged. “But ever since you asked me about us, you know, in my room that other night…it kept turning in my mind.”. His eyes bore into yours, burning with heavy remorses and unspoken things, “I… I just don’t know when I could return your feelings.”
Unable to contain your smile, you squeezed the hand that was still holding your face. Xavier had feelings for you; he could love you. All he needed was time to figure out his emotions. Maybe there was hope for you after all.
Hugging him tightly, you closed your eyes, hopeful tears escaping them.
“Don’t worry,” you whispered, “I’ll wait for you. I always will.”
Xavier smiled, and pressed a long, soft kiss to your forehead.
He had unknowingly lightened a spark of hope in you. You just hoped that his heart would win this race against time in which your own body was trapped, or else you would be lying to him once again. Even if you had promised you would wait for him, you weren’t so sure that the sickness would.

The doctors signed off your release forms the next day. You had just changed from the hospital gown to your casual clothes when someone knocked on your door.
“Come in,” you called out while putting on your shoes.
The door opened on your monochrome roommate.
“Wednesday,” you said surprised, “what are you doing here?”
“I was visiting Eugene,” she said flatly, “I heard you had woken up.”
Despite your initial surprise you nodded, “Yeah, the doctors gave me authorization to go back to school. Not that they can do anything for me anyway, “ you muttered the last part.
“Do they know about your condition?” she asked.
You shook your head, “So far, you’re the only one knowing everything. Weems knows parts of it; so does Xavier.”
“You told him?” she raised her eyebrow.
Almost shyly you cast your eyes down, “Not everything. He doesn’t know he’s…that he has something to do with it.”
After a pause, Wednesday spoke again, “This is a rather strategic decision. If you’re dying, there’s no reason to burden yourself with more guilt from him. You’re probably in enough pain, lucky you.”
It almost made you chuckle, “I’m surprised you actually agree with my feelings.”
“I’m not,” she denied sharply, “like I said, it’s only a strategic move.”
You only shrugged in response.
“How’s Eugene?” you asked in a small voice.
Wednesday’s harsh expression softened a little, “He’s okay. Still unconscious, but okay.”
This news saddened you a little. Sure, Eugene was out of danger, but he didn’t deserve to end up in a hospital bed.
“His mothers asked me to thank you by the way,” she added, and you lifted your head in surprise. “They learned that you had gone to his rescue.”
“Yeah, except I couldn’t help him,” you mumbled bitterly.
She shrugged, “Still, they are passing you their thanks.”
Pulling your jacket, you swallowed your shame. Eugene didn’t owe you anything, you hadn’t been able to help him; you didn’t deserve his mums’ thanks.
“I wished to thank you too,” added Wednesday quietly. At your once again shocked expression she continued, “You didn’t have to run to his aid, yet you didn’t hesitate to. So, thank you.”
Once the initial surprise wore off you smiled slightly, “Is that compassion I heard from you, Wednesday Addams?”
“Don’t flatter yourself,” she deadpanned.
“I’m not talking about me though, I’m talking about Eugene. You have a soft spot for that kid.”
She narrowed her eyes at you but said nothing. You chuckled, knowing you were right.
“Well you’re welcome,” you said grabbing your bag – in which the pumpkin plushie Xavier gifted you laid carefully, “Always a pleasure to prove a point.”
“Which point?” she frowned.
“That no matter how much you despise them, you do have feelings Wednesday.”
With that, you left the room and quietly made your way to the entrance where Principal Weems waited for you to bring you back to Nevermore. Even if she looked the same as usual, elegant as ever, you didn’t miss the pitiful look in her eyes everytime she looked at you. The looming figure of upcoming death above you was something she couldn’t ignore; you guessed that it was going to be like this, now.
“Your aunt called,” she told you as the both of you were seated in her car, driving away from the hospital. “She can’t make it to the parents’ week-end.”
This made your heart squeeze a little, but you weren’t exactly surprised, “Oh,” you said simply, “guess I should’ve seen that coming.”
In the corner of your eye you could see the sorry look of Principal Weems. After a few moments of silence, she said, “I didn’t tell her about your condition.”
“Thank you,” you muttered, glad the principal actually kept her word. “I’ll call her this week-end.”
Maybe in the meantime things would change; but you doubted it.
When you reached Nevermore the first place you went to was your room, only to be trapped in a bone-crushing hug by Enid. The werewolf didn’t sound like she was aware of the extent of the disease, because she rambled about the importance of good sleep and healthy feeding in a very cute and concerned way. Apparently, she still thought you had passed out from exhaustion, meaning she hadn’t seen your body the night of the Rave’n. Which was good; with the upcoming arrival of her parents the day after, you knew you couldn’t tell her everything now. Her relationship with her mother had its lots of complications, your health would wait.
Then after reassuring Enid that you were now fine, you grabbed a few of your belongings and made your way to the boys’ dormitory. Xavier opened his door after the first knock.
“Hey,” you said quietly, “can I stay here tonight?”
He smiled softly at you, before letting you in, “Of course.”
His room hadn’t changed much since the last time you had come. It felt oddly comforting, like a safe space. Carefully taking your hands in his, Xavier slowly guided you to his bed. He laid down on his back and you snuggled on his side, head against his chest. One of his hands naturally found its way to your hair, getting lost in your locks. The soothing beating of his heart against your ear seemed enough to keep the both of you alive.
“Does it still hurt?” he mumbled against your hairline.
You nodded, unable to tell him how much pain you were in. “Sometimes it calms down,” you tried to reassure him.
Still, he winced at your words. “I’m not letting you down this time,” he whispered, throat tight, “I promise.”
Craning your head up to look at him, you smiled softly, “I know, Xav. You and me against the world, right?”
The words the both of you had kept saying through your childhood brought a small smile on his face. “Yeah,” he kissed your forehead, “you and me against the world, sweetheart.”
That night, despite the dreadful and irksome sensation of the flowers clawing in your throat, you slept peacefully. No matter how your lungs ached, the only thing that mattered was Xavier’s arms wrapped safely around you.

When the first day of parent’s week-end rolled by the morning after, you knew that it was going to be a long day for both Xavier and you. Even your mutual soothing presences couldn’t tune down the anxiety that grew as the morning went on. From one of the passageways above the quad, Xavier was glancing either to his phone or to the school gates every ten seconds. Waiting for his father to either make an appearance, or a call. Leaning on the balcony next to him you nudged his shoulder with your in a silent gesture of support. He flashed a small smile for reassurance, but you knew the absence of his father hurt him.
“He’s not coming,” he said bitterly.
“There’s still people arriving, maybe he will show up,” you tried.
He tsked, “You know him Y/N. Mighty Vincent Thorpe doesn’t have time for his unworthy son.”
“Hey,” you insisted, putting a hand on his, “don’t say that. You’re kind and talented, no matter what he says.”
Xavier smiled softly at your words, but his eyes were still tainted with sorrow. Cradling his cheek you brushed your thumb over his cheekbones, “You’re worthy to me, Xav. You’re already twice the man your father will ever be.”
His smile broadened and he kissed your palm, muttering a thanks. He shouldn’t dwell on his father's antics; you were there, and that was all that mattered.
“Your aunt’s coming?” he asked quietly, lifting his face from your hand to instead take it in his.
“No,” you said sadly, “she’s busy too. But I’ll call her later.”
This time, it was his turn to frown, “Does she know yet?”
You shook your head, “This isn’t going to be a pleasant conversation.”
“Do you want me to be here when you’ll call her?” he suggested softly.
His support offer touched you, but your heart clenched anyway, “No I…this is something I need to do on my own.”
Xavier nodded in understanding. He didn’t want to press the issue further, this was your call to make.
Down in the quad, you noticed that Enid’s family had finally arrived. Even from up here you could practically hear Enid’s anxiety. As you looked back to Xavier to speak, you noticed the lonely figure of Bianca a few feet away from the both of you, hesitant to approach. Xavier followed your eyes and glanced behind his shoulder to the siren.
“I’m going to give Enid some emotional support,” you said softly, squeezing his hand. “We’ll see each other when the buffet starts, okay?”
He nodded, kissing your knuckles as a goodbye. Before you walked away you nodded in Bianca’s direction, “Go talk to her.”
He frowned, slightly surprised by your words, “You’re sure?”
You nodded. Him and Bianca weren’t together anymore, but that didn’t change the fact that they were friends. And after the little heart-to-heart you had with her at the party…you knew she needed her friend.
“She’s alone too, today,” you said, noticing the absence of her mother.
“I don’t want to leave you,” he whispered.
You smiled at him. “You’re not, I promise. Go, I’m going to Enid and I’ll find you later.”
Passing next to Bianca, you mirrored her unusual kind smile. It seemed that your heart-to-heart had unlocked a strange form of compassion. Maybe if you had more time, you could be friends with her, you thought as you went down to the quad.
Crossing the crowded space to get to your blonde roommate, you didn’t expect to run into Wednesday and a handful of black-claded people accompanying her.
“Y/N,” she greeted sharply, “if you’re trying to flee this gruesome social obligation, I must ask you to consider helping me on this matter.”
The plump man behind her let out a rich laugh. “Ah, did our little nightmare finally make a friend, then?”
Wednesday glared at him. But that didn’t seem to disencourage the man who nudged her, “Well, why don’t you introduce us to your friend, my little death trap?”
She rolled her eyes so you took the initiative, extending your hand, “I’m Y/N L/N, Wednesday’s roommate. Pleasure meeting you, sir.”
He shook your hand before bowing his head slightly yet in a very theatrical gesture, “I’m Gomez Addams, Wednesday’s father. Thank you for having welcomed our daughter with open arms.”
You heard Wednesday snort, but you put on a polite smile, “Wednesday’s a very considerate roommate, sir. We get along fine.”
On the corner of your eyes you could notice the way her eyebrows slightly rose up in surprise. Surely, she didn’t expect such compliments; but you had to give it to her, she had been respectful of your boundaries the best she could, no matter how nosy she might have been. Plus, you probably owed her your life for having found you in the woods after the Rave’n.
“Whatever,” she huffed, starting to walk away with her father following her with playful pleas.
“It’s a true delight to see Wednesday getting along with someone,” said a feminine voice from behind you.
You turned around to face a raven-haired woman dressed in a long dramatic dress, hands elegantly crossed in front of her. Despite her rather gloomy appearance, she had kind eyes and a soft smile.
“Thank you for indulging my daughter's behavior, miss L/N,” she said with a smile. “Wednesday has a lot of qualities, but her social skills aren’t of those.”
That made you smile a little, extending your hand to her, “You must be Wednesday’s mother. A pleasure ma’am.”
She came to reach your outreached hand, “My name’s Morticia. A witch, aren’t you Miss L/N? I’ve heard about your aunt’s reputation before.”
You were about to confirm her words, but as soon as her hand touched yours for a handshake, Morticia froze, eyes widening. It was only for a brief moment, a breath really, but once she seemed to regain her spirits the previously kind expression on her face turned into despair.
“Oh poor child,” she whispered, mouth agape. “What a dreadful path you’re on.”
Morticia’s reaction troubled you; what had happened? “Excuse me?”
Her eyes bore into yours, and what you saw surprised you even more: they were glossy with tears.
“I saw what’s plaguing you. You’re cursed with Hanahaki disease, aren’t you?”
Her words stunned you right on the spot. How was this possible? How could she possibly know?
As panic started to overflow your mind, the familiar tickling urge and taste of blood rushed in your throat.
“How?...” you whispered, chest tight and burning under the flower’s pressure.
Her tearful eyes turned into a sympathetic expression, “I am gifted with visions, and I saw what looms over you.”
No matter how hard you tried to restrain them, tears were already gathering in your eyes and you nodded painfully. “You know about the disease? But how? It has been so difficult to learn anything about it.”
She smiled sadly at you, “I know many things about love, dear child. Especially cursed ones.”
As on cue, you coughed a handful of bloodied petals in your hand. Morticia Addams winced at the pitiful sight. Immediately, your eyes flickered to the higher passageway as you felt Xavier’s eyes on you. He must have heard you cough somehow, because even from where you stood, you could see his panicked eyes. He looked ready to jump over the balcony in the blink of an eye, worry consuming him. But you slightly shook your head, mouthing that you were fine. That didn’t erase his discomfort, but at least he started to make his way hurriedly to the stairs instead of rushing down in the dumbest way possible. Morticia didn’t miss any of this.
“Is that him?” asked Wednesday’s mother softly.
You nodded slowly. This was strange, you knew this woman for less than five minutes but her motherly aura somehow made you at ease.
“Does he know?” she pressed carefully, and the negative shake of your head made her heart fill with sadness for you.
“He can never know,” you whispered, casting your eyes down to hide your tears. “It would break him to know it’s somehow his fault.”
She lifted your chin gently, with one finger. The sorrowful, yet kind look she was giving you made your heart swell.
“But he cares about you. I can see that.”
You could only shrug in defeat, “What if it can’t save me?”
She smiled softly at you, “I didn’t see your end, dear child. Only great pain, the one going through. But if that boy is close to you, maybe that’s why my vision didn’t show me your demise.”
That made your eyes widen. Could there still be a chance, like you had hoped?
“Does that mean…do you think there’s still a chance for me to heal, then?” you whispered in disbelief.
Letting go of your chin, she nodded, “My visions are often incomplete, but rarely wrong. And my sight does not fool me, young Y/N. I saw the look you both shared.”. Replacing a strand of hair behind your ear in a mothering care, she smiled, “There is hope, as long as there is love.”
Noticing the upcoming figure of a very concerned Xavier behind you, Morticia smiled one last time.
“It’s been a pleasure meeting you, Y/N. I sincerely hope we’ll run into each other again.”
Through your blurry eyes, you offered her a weak but sincere smile. “Me too, Mrs.Addams. And…thank you.”
With one last enigmatic smile, she walked away gracefully to rejoin her family, just as Xavier reached you.
“Hey,” he whispered, “you’re alright?”
Whipping the gathering tears with the back of your hand, you nodded, “Yeah…I made a surprising encounter that’s all.”
He looked over at the dark yet classy figure of Morticia Addams on the other side of the quad and frowned. “Isn’t that Wednesday’s mum?”
Looking at this reassuring mother figure, you smiled softly, “Yeah, she is. She’s great.”
About half an hour later it turned out that no matter how kind your roommate’s mom was, karma had a strange sense of humor. That’s what you thought when the police arrested Gomez Addams for a murder aged 20 years. This definitely put a stain on the joyful ambience of parents’ weekend, but the festivities resumed soon after. As the night started to roll by, you knew that you ultimately had to call your aunt.
“You’re sure you don’t want me to be here for support?” asked Xavier, hand in yours before your room’s door.
“I’ll be fine,” you reassured him, still thankful he offered. “Aunt Cordelia and I will have a lot of things to talk about, it won’t be a fun conversation.”
At his still worried look, you suddenly felt bolder and kissed his cheek, nearly on the corner of his mouth. This wasn’t unusual for the both of you, but it was the first time since you had actually kissed. His eyes widened slightly, but it was soon replaced by a soft smile.
“I’ll text you when it’s over, okay?” you promised him.
“Okay,” he finally admitted, “if anything’s wrong, just text me I’ll be there in a minute.”
His devotion made you smile. Xavier had always been protective of you when you were kids, but since you had confessed your love to him, this was a whole new level, even if he didn’t return your romantic feelings yet.
Reluctantly letting go of his hand, you pushed open your door, catching one last glance before closing it behind you. The silence and emptiness of the room made you let out a long sigh. Enid was sleeping outside with her family, and Wednesday must have been visiting her father in detention. This was the perfect moment to make that phone call.
Grabbing your phone and composing your aunt’s number before courage wore off of you, you stepped on the balcony behind the large web-shaped window. The cool air of the night felt nice against the skin of your sore throat; you had thrown up again quite a lot today, much to Xavier’s worry.
Your aunt picked up at the last ringtone, “Good to know you’re still alive, Y/N,” she said as a greeting.
Her choice of words almost made you choke on your own breath. She had no idea. “Yeah…hi aunt Cordelia…”
On the other side of the phone, you could picture her frowning, “Oooh, what’s with that sad voice, pumpkin? Is something wrong?”
You tried to speak, but the words wouldn’t come out; instead a wave of emotion rushed in your throat, tightening it so hard it made tears come out of your eyes.
“Y/N? Are you alright?” called out your aunt.
And then you broke down in tears, “I’m dying,” you cried out. Here, you said it. Blurted it because every emotion you had repressed recently for the sake of Xavier or anyone else had overwhelmed you, crashing into you like a high wave. And now the tears wouldn't stop.
“Wait, wait, slow down Y/N, slow down,” said the worried voice on the phone, “Take a deep breath, okay?”
“I can’t,” you whimpered in between tears, “it hurts too much. I- I have flowers growing in my lungs and I c-can’t breathe,” you hiccuped. A long, dreadful silence echoed your sobs; so long you thought your aunt had dropped her phone. “Aunt Cordelia?...”
Her rasping voice answered you at last, “You have Hanahaki disease?”
“Yes,” you hiccuped in surprise, “how do you…”
“I just know. It’s Xavier isn’t it?” she cut you off, voice trembling because of the shock.
Trembling, you nodded. She couldn’t see that, but you knew she understood.
“I’m taking the first flight to Nevermore tomorrow morning,” she said curtly, “I’m picking you up.”
“What?” you blurted; the tears had gradually stopped flowing, “why?”
“So we can get you fixed, Y/N,” she said in a harsh tone. But you knew her; the truth was that behind that tone, she was terrified. Still, it didn’t stop you from starting to cry again.
“Please don’t,” you begged, “please. I don’t want to leave Nevermore, not now!”
Your aunt let out a frustrated sigh, “There’s nothing for you here anymore! You need to come back home, so we can start to cure this.”
Her words caught your breath.
“There’s a cure?” you whispered in disbelief. “But I thought…I’ve read nothing about it.”
Suddenly, the tone in your aunt’s voice changed to something softer. And tainted with regrets. “It’s not a pretty thing to do, pumpkin,” she admitted. “It requires making difficult decisions.”
“But…but the disease will disappear if Xavier actually loves me back, isn’t it?” you stuttered frantically. “He’s trying, I promise we have a chance.”
“Oh Y/N…” sighed your aunt, “This isn’t how it works love…”
“We have a chance!” you repeated, starting to cry again, “Please aunt Cordelia, we only need a little more time, don’t make me leave…please…”
“You’re dying, Y/N,” she snapped, “time is a luxury you don’t have!”
The way she had snapped at you startled you; even if she hadn’t always been the most present parent, aunt Cordelia had never screamed or scolded you.
After a brief moment of silence, where she realized her mistake, Cordelia sighed again.
“Listen pumpkin…I’ve already lost your mother, I can’t lose you too…”
Tears continued to roll down your cheeks. You didn’t dare to speak, afraid that your voice would break under the weight of emotions.
“I want to believe in Xavier and you, I really do okay? He’s a good man, and I’m sure he might love you someday.”
“But?” you asked with a trembling voice.
“But…Hanahaki disease never ends well darling,” she said in a sorry tone. “Trust me, I’ve seen people trying to fight it, but no matter how hard they tried they never survived.”
All the hopes that the encounter with Morticia Addams had awakened in your heart suddenly crumbled to ashes.
“So…I’m doomed?” you cried.
The silence that answered you was worth a thousand words. Your back hit the stone wall and you let your whole body slump against it; your legs couldn’t hold you up any longer.
“I’m sorry pumpkin,” muttered your aunt.
Biting your lips not to scream, you managed to let out the words you never thought you’d say, “What is this cure…the one you were talking about?”
Surprisingly, she sounded hesitant now. “It’s a surgical operation,” she explained slowly, “it gets the flowers and roots completely removed. But it comes with a price.”
“Which price?” you whispered between trembling lips.
“You…” she hesitated, “you would forget all memories of Xavier. And it’s highly likely you’ll never get to love again.”
Choking on air, you let out a small strangled cry.
“I can’t,” you croaked, “you can’t ask me to do this.”
“Y/N darling, I understand,” she begged, “but you must if you want to live.”
You squeezed your eyes tight, like you could suddenly wake up from this nightmare, leaving it all behind with the retiring night.
“I understand he’s important to you,” she conceded gently, “are you really willing to die for him though?”
Your answer was instantaneous, “I have faith in him. I can- we can do this, I know it.”
She remained silent. Maybe you were already too deep into denial for her to change your mind. So she sighed in defeat.
“You’re as stubborn as your mother,” she said quietly, “if I let you stay at Nevermore, would you promise me that if he can’t save you on time you would consider getting the flowers removed?”
The hesitation was what betrayed you, “I…I can’t promise you that.”. But she already knew the answer.
“I know. But I also know that you won’t completely push away the possibility. I love you, pumpkin.”
Before you could add anything, she hung up. Shoulders slumping you buried your face in your hands, letting tears down.
How did the hope that had been building up over the last two days become so fragile? You wanted to believe in Xavier, with all of your heart you truly did. It just was beginning to be incredibly harder that you had thought.

prologue | masterlist | two
Yoon Jeonghan was a person whom you can't forget. You let yourself relish his new appearance. Long gone was the long slick hair he sported back in college. His short haircut with his bang fringes poking his eyes made him look somewhat younger. His cheeks are more defined than you can remember, and his bright doe eyes that were healthy before now have bags underneath, finally noticing the mole you adorned long ago.
It seems that he did the same, as his lips narrowed open, shock still painted on his face as his eyes traveled around your face. The only thing that woke you two up from your daydream was, "Dada!" Two of the kids ran towards Jeonghan to hug him by his legs.
Stumbling a bit from the impact, his eyes lingered a bit longer from you before turning his attention to the two children, crouching down to hug them and mumble a few words.
Blinking a few more times, let it sink in that the two children that ran towards you and your dog were, Jeonghan's children. A small smile formed on your lips, "You're a dad now, huh?" You softly said, still wearing the small smile as you locked eyes with him again.
"They're twins, Yuna and Yejun. They're turning four this year." He replies, standing up again whilst holding both on his sides. Your eyes then drifted to the two, taking a closer look. Knowing that these were his children, you were suddenly intrigued to see who they took after.
You were guessing that you were staring at the twins a bit longer than you intended as you heard Jeonghan introduce you as one of their aunts. "Hi! You guys still want to touch her?" Pointing to your dog, piquing their attention again. You saw both of them look up to Jeonghan, asking for permission before running towards your crouching figure to pet your dog, Manju.
You still held your dog by its snout, letting the children pet his body. "Is that..?" You could tone of hesitance in his voice. Without meeting his eyes, "It's her daughter, she passed a year ago." Whilst shaking your head, quickly patting Manju's head making it lean to your hand, wanting more.
"Oh," You watched the two children giggling to themselves as they kept on patting your dog's body which Manju enjoys, noticing the rapid wag of her tail with each stroke that the twins make.
"She looks just like her," Jeonghan mumbles, making you slightly jolt from your position as you didn't notice him crouching down next to you to pat Manju's head.
"She acts like her too. Not that much of a people pleaser dog." You joked, hearing him chuckle again after how many years. "Then I guess Michi must've told her about me then." He softly says, making you look at him.
Michi, - your current dog, Manju's, mother - you and Jeonghan's lovebug. Just the mention of your passed dod makes your heart swell and Jeonahan's presence makes it a lot worse. You felt tears building up in your eyes, causing you to break free from Jeonghan's eyes.
You still weren't over grieving from the loss of your best friend. She was the only one who stayed with you from that dreadful college years up to your med school. She stayed longer than anyone could have, and that's why you weren't done grieving even if she was already gone for a year. "Dada," One called, capturing both of your attention.
It's somehow sweet that someone you knew is now being called like that. So sweet and soft, enough to you feel blue. How would it feel to be called by your child? You thought.
"I'm sorry, Y/N, I have to go. I still have some stuff to unpack. We just moved here in the city." Is Jeonghan effortlessly picking up both his kids, "Moved? Here?" You asked, quite shocked at the news. As far as you remember, he moved to a larger city to pursue law. Was he retired?
"Yeah," Sporting a smile that you remembered like the back of your hand, "See you around?" He adds, walking away from you.
You suddenly felt a wave of emotions rushing through your body. You didn't even have the chance to bid him goodbye as you were too busy relishing the smile he wore before he walked away.
It must be the nostalgia, making you feel emotions you thought were long gone. Seeing him again after a few years, with his own little family made you happy. Finally seeing him smile again after you broke his heart when you walked away from him that night.
“I’m telling you Seungcheol, I didn’t know she lived here!” Jeonghan dramatically says through the phone as he folded their clean clothes to store it in their closet.
“I’m not even saying anything! It’s you who’s overreacting, not me!” Rolling his eyes, “Oh you fucker, don’t get me started with your scoffs and stifled laughs!” Sighing, Jeonghan was left hopeless upon hearing his friend’s laughter echo through the room.
“Can you shut the fuck up? My children are asleep.” Jeonghan had his lips curved into an annoyed smirk, “I can see you glaring from here ya’ know?”
“On the brighter side, isn’t it nice to have a familiar face in an unfamiliar environment? Plus, you could ask Y/N to babysit the twins on October,” Seungcheol finally calmed down, giving Jeonghan a few grounded words.
“I think you don’t get the whole concept of ‘let’s not see each other again’ here, Choi Seungcheol.” He could hear his friend groaning on the full name, “Dumbass! She meant it to be - not being in a relationship! Not - literally not! Seeing! Each other! So much for topping the boards,” Jeonghan heard the last part but paid no attention. He knows that too. That you didn’t mean it to literally not see each other’s face. But at that time, he had no face to meet you even if you were the one who called it off. Too hurt to even see you from afar. Too bruised to even hear from you.
“I also don’t think were in a relationship where I can just ask her to babysit my twins because unfortunately, my first day of work is on my birthday!” Jeonghan can imagine Seungcheol shaking his head at him. “I also don’t have her number.” There was a long stretch of silence before he could hear Seungcheol’s sigh.
“Y/N, she didn’t changed her number. I’m sure you still have it.” Having his breath hitched, he stopped functioning for a while, “Don’t be such a sussy Han, it’s all in the past. Besides, you got married. All your unresolved feelings for Y/N should either be gone or just waiting to be answered.”
“Yeah. I guess so.”
Sweat running down your forehead as you reached your kitchen’s counter top, almost flopping yourself just to reach the fridge. Not even minding to get a glass to pour water on. You don’t know why embarrassment is only hitting you now. How embarrassing on acting so casual with someone you left in the dark, as if you didn’t leave him hanging during your third year on college.
Wiping your lips that had excess water dripping down to your chin, you had your gaze hardened on the wall. How can he possibly talk to you when he avoided you at all cost after the breakup? Even hearing from his friends that he would always change the topic when it somehow swerved to you.
Just then, you heard your phone ding, immediately checking just in case it was a text from the hospital.
Heaving a sigh, you quickly typed in ‘otw’, scurrying away to your room to fix yourself before going back to the hospital.
“Doc, we’ve already calmed him down. His vitals are slowly coming back to normal.” The nurse informed you as you briskly walked towards the said patient’s warden. You just nodded in acknowledgment, slowly forgetting the incident earlier.
Being an general doctor was a pain, especially if most of your current patients are alcoholic. No matter how many nags and warnings you told them, they just don’t listen. Now, one of your patients who recently received a liver from his daughter went on a drinking spree. Now that his his newly transplanted liver almost gave up, you can feel stress working up its way to your head - almost giving you migraine like headaches just by the thoughtless behavior the old man lying on the bed portrayed.
The door swings open, gaining your attention, you then saw the wife and their daughter and you can’t help but feel bad for them. They just paid hundred thousands just to pay the hospital bills from the surgery and now, their patriarch had a surge of major side effects from the alcohol content he consumed.
“He consumed too much alcohol, that the liver almost gave up since it was still adjusting with his body. Good thing he was brought here immediately. He’s already stable. He needs to be monitored for a span of two weeks at least, just to make sure his liver won’t act out again.” You explained sternly to the family who only nodded and kept thanking you for saving the man again.
Heaving a big sigh as you closed the door to the room, you held your head, trying to rub the pain out. “Did you even sleep?” A familiar voice chirped beside you, “What do you think?” You said sarcastically before making your way to the headquarters.
“Judging by the way you tried to rub your temples and your mean attitude, you didn’t even sleep a wink with your uhm,” You could hear him counting in a small voice, “Three hours free time.” Halting, you quickly turned to him, making his squinted eyes go round.
“Did you know Jeonghan had kids?” You genuinely asks. The latter furrowed his brows, searching any other reaction from you. “Yeah..” Still trying to see if you’d react in any way other than relief washing down your face.
“Glad he found someone that’ll take care of him.” You said with a smile. You were about to turn when you halted from his words, “You.. Did you not know?” Confusion then etched both your faces.
“Know what, Hoshi?” He pursed his lips, contemplating whether to tell you or not, “What ‘cha guys doin’?” Dino’s voice erupted from your back. Dino noticed Hoshi’s panicking gaze but you didn’t remove your eyes on the latter.
You felt Dino’s presence beside you but you paid no attention to him, “Hoshi, what is it?” You asked again, more curious and fraught on his answer.
“What is what?” Dino joined causing you to whip his head to him. “What do you know about Jeonghan?” You asked him, catching him off-guard.
“I just know he moved here in the city, and he’s planning to start working here on October.” Furrowing your brows more, “What’s this about? Why’re you suddenly asking things about him?” You were too lost in your thoughts to answer him.
Didn’t he want to pursue law? Why would he work here at the hospital? Or will he work here as a legal guidance? Legal advisor? Didn’t he go to larger city so he could expand his connections?
Dino was now frowning at you, looking towards Hoshi with a questioning look. The latter shrugged and shook his head, also unaware of her sudden interest towards Jeonghan.
You raised you head again, now looking to Dino who had his one brow raised, already knowing what you’re going to ask, “You didn’t asked. And we thought you wouldn’t like to hear any news from him. Be it good or bad.”
“Yeah. Totally learned my lesson that one time.” Hoshi added. You frowned at your two friends - who was unfortunately, friends with Jeonghan also.
You and Jeonghan weren’t in the same circle before, it just happened that your friends and his friends clicked that much for it to become one. You still were in contact with some of his friends, but you took courtesy of not asking things about him and they respected that by not sharing anything too, without you asking.
“I met him earlier at the park. Also met his twins. He casually talked to me, and it made me feel anxious. He wasn’t like that when I last heard from him, wasn’t he angry anymore?” You ranted, lying on the bed as you munched your caramelized popcorn.
“Maybe? It’s been like what? Seven years? It must’ve dried out during those past years.” Closing his book before turning to face your lying body on the bunk bed. “Besides Y/N, why are you so worried about him working here? Do you not want him to be here that much?”
“No, its not that. It’s just, Wonwoo, I inflicted pain, he should be angry!” You kept refuting the same thing over and over again.
“Y/N, if there’s anything that he’ll feel about you, anger is far from it. He’s healed from the pain, he learned and he moved on. I’m sure his wife took care of him well. Isn’t that what you want? Someone to take good care of him?” You halted from Wonwoo’s words. You couldn’t help but look at the bed above you, letting out a smile as you imagined Jeonghan being taken care of well.
As soon as you felt tears suddenly welling up on your eyes, you did your best to refrain them from pouring out. “Yeah, I did.” It was so soft, Wonwoo would’ve missed it if there was other noises aside from the aircon’s ringing. “Did you attend his wedding?” You asked, with a softer voice.
Wonwoo was taken aback by the sudden change of demeanor, “..No, I couldn’t. It was during our OB-residency.” He could see you quietly nod and the red tip of your nose. He could sense immense emotions from you, but he kept quiet about it. He knows its something you don’t ever want to talk about. Most likely, you will never talk about it to them, finally knowing Jeonghan had marry already.

Was having a wee think about five, (what's new, you may ask) and ruminating on why I am so very peevish about his semi-recent designation as 'the (single) dad' doctor. Like, yes, he travels with a young-ish cohort - a boy who never gets the chance to grow up, a girl who does and begins to chafe under his wing. But then Tegan has studied, moved to a different country to start her job. Turlough was a soldier, exiled from his own world.
And five is young too (at least at the beginning) - he's exuberant, he jumps in feet first and expects the best of everyone. He also loses almost as much in his short life as eight does in the audios and books. And it's such a short life.
Just pointing at five and going 'dad!', to Nyssa and Tegan 'daughters!' and Adric 'son!' ignores all those cultural differences, all that tension that it's because of five Nyssa's family, her whole world is gone. Tegan's aunt is dead, and he can't seem to get her home. Adric went off with someone he admired but who is now a completely different person, and (I'm starting sense a theme) can never go home. It smooths over all the fascinating interplay between a crew where none of the characters quite seem to fit together, where all of them are lost, and have lost such vital things because of the doctor.
It's boring, and it's reductive, and I've noticed it a hell of a lot more since polls were added on here. Maybe it's easier to point at a character and go 'chanel boots', or 'single dad', or 'doctor I would want to smoke weed with', but it also feels like a massive dumbing down where people don't want to see complexities in fiction anymore, they only want to nice fluffy bits and that's all that the fandom is becoming. Like people have been raised on a disney adaptation of a fairytale where suddenly everything has a simplistic happy ending and that has to be applied to everything else now too.
And obviously it's not just the fifth doctor and his companions where this is happening, they're just ones close to my heart, but this simplification diminishes us all. Reach for those vnas, edas, early big finish audios. Absorb those complexities, think about those consequences. Get more fucked up about it all.

alright so my aunt died and now my dad is sad because that was his last living sibling so he against all odds is the oldest living person in his bloodline my sister told me about it and without thinking about it I simply said I'm sorry for your lost she told me to call my dad because he's depressed but I've been debating cutting my parents out of my life for 9 years now and in January I just stopped talking to them and I don't think I'll do that again. as previously stated I don't have any affection for this aunt she like my dad's first wife and always treated me and my sister (my dad's second wife's children) like the social rejects of the family when I was 17 or so I admitted to myself I didn't love any of these people let alone like them. at best I sympathize with some of them because they've been through some shit but they always managed to try to build themselves up by tearing me or my sister down so I'm not callous except I told my cousin I hate her and she deserved the hell she created for herself but I was 17. and right about that. the rest I just stopped talking to them a few of them follow me on ig but my page is public some of them are blocked tho. my aunt's death isn't a celebration or a relief I'm just indifferent it's like hearing a coworker's partner's relative died but the relative like yeah that was a human person but ultimately it was old age/50 year smoking habit it's not tragic unexpected sudden but I think about calling my dad and then I think about the 3 stints in the mental hospital I did for trying to kill myself because he and my mother fucked me up in ways were even to this day I think about killing my at least once a week (down from multiple times a day so progress I guess <3) why should I comfort them also my sister does my dad's mychart and his doctor tod him something is erong with his heart valve or something and depression from losing a family member forced into retirement (he had two strokes) depression from a child refusing to speak to you not changing your diet/exercise after a stroke means he hasn't got a lot of time left but then I remember when he punched me in the face so hard it swelled up my lip an a social worker told me I'll be graduating and going off to college soon so suck it up I guess (paraphrase but so many of them do not care at all) so why the goddamn hell should I care but I still sleep with the teddy bear he gave me 25 years ago and suppose I always will what will his death mean to me will I be indifferent will I go to work like nothing happened it'll destory my sister who desperately wants a relationship with them both but calls me confessing that she knows deep that won't happen I trauma dumped about being worried that social services won't care about the possible criminally neglected children in my class during professional development and ended up telling the whole spiel about my deal with physical and emotional abuse and the indifferent from almost every adult in my life if no one cared that I had my life threatened and was beaten no one but me is going to care that one of the girls seems to be scared of her father (never happy to see him, doesn't go to him unless walked over to him, hides from him sometimes...) did my teachers care and they knew no one else would do anything does anyone care should I kill myself now I bet it would hurt him the most if I did it now I won't but I know it would hurt if I did and it might be the last chance I get but it would hurt my sister in a way she doesn't deserve and who would be there to say no you're not crazy I was there when he pushed you into the painting and broke the glass and you fell down the stairs I didn't know falls down the stairs could be deadly at the time I told myself it was normal I told myself it was normal when our mom said committing suicide is selfish when you told her you wanted die I think you were 12 and I had to help you untie the phone cord you wrapped around your neck I don't allow myself to think about it often and I'll never bring it up it feels like I'm not supposed to

The even weirder part of people talking like they can tell the difference between transphobia, exorsexism, and hate nonconforming cis people get for me is…
I’m hairy. Some doctors say this is just me being Greek (and, according to a 23andme my aunt did, a lot of Italian.) Others say this is a Problem, quite possibly because I am not especially fat so they can’t just jump to “it’s PCOS, which sucks but is a thing we know about.”
I was prescribed testosterone blockers before my test results even came back. (My testosterone levels, based on two tests from two different people who did this, are normal for an AFAB person who is not taking exogenous testosterone. I don’t know if that’s high end of normal or not but it didn’t even sound like that.)
My protests that this would upset me way more than hair I’m already imprecisely shaving got “if something is wrong, that’s dangerous.’” I get asked if I know what spironolactone is a surprising amount. (Yes! Give it to my transfem friends! What is wrong with you! I don’t want that! I’m the one who wants more T! AAAAAAAAAAA)
All of which is to say… I’m pretty sure I’ve experienced at least a little exorsexism too, and it’s only extensive medical testing that confirmed it was “misdirected.” I remember asking if I was intersex, feeling like I could be more open about being non-binary if the answer was yes, and hearing “oh honey you’re just as feminine as any woman!” EVEN AFTER I protested I’m not feminine and don’t call me that.
I’m not saying our experiences don’t differ. I’m not saying it’s never okay to point out when someone might actually have it worse or get it more often.
I AM saying it’s all the same hydra, and that hydra isn’t generally picking which head to go after you with. It just wants to get close enough to bite.

warnings/content: description of hospitals; mentions of unfaithfulness & divorce; animosity btw coworkers; not as angsty as the other chapters; tw!pregnancy; details of a case that involves tw!abduction, people getting arrested and tw!someone getting shot; descriptions of nightmares, allusions do drowning; trypanophobia (fear of needles); tw!panic attacks; jemily if you squint; ah there's also fluff, i'm not a monster; conversations about future plans.
A/N: summary sucks i'm aware! that's been on my notes for far too long. i was deciding whether i should kept my old writing style or make it fit my new one but none of the options would have match the other two chapters so i kinda mixed the two. that's why "y/n" is in here.

Raymond Henley and Carlos Stewart were arrested that evening.
Thanks to the hard drive files Y/N had stored minutes before everything happened, there was enough proof of the data breach; luckily she had gotten there before Carlos could enter her office and wipe out everything.
Aaliyah Zara was found safe and sound in an old building on a different neighborhood. When her aunt said that the girl would never run away; she was right. But the girl's father, Miron Zara picked his daughter up from school that day, as a surprise. The only reason this was never brought up during the investigation was because the cameras never got images of his vehicle — he parked strategically in a street corner with no surveillance.  The data breach was contained. Well, the FBI covered it with as much excuses as they could. Everybody knew that the money could never be fully recovered.  “How is she?” Derek asked JJ as they tried to keep their conversation as low as possible for the sake of the hospital hall creepy silence.
“Sleeping.” The blonde replied, adding a third packet of sugar on the cup beside hers. Her lips instantly lifted in a grimace once she poured in the fourth. It wasn't for her anyway — she at least hoped this would calm Spencer's nerves down. “Her liver was fixed up, thankfully. Doctor said that if the bullet crossed an inch longer she might've lost it.” She stole a glance at her best friend. His neck in an odd position as he took a nap against his will on the uncomfortable waiting room chair and curls covering half of his face. His body was too tired so it was bound to happen, he couldn't fight it anymore. When a wave of jet black hair crossed her eyesight a few feet away JJ quickly made an excuse. “Can you take this up to him when he wakes up? I need to do something.” She didn't wait for Derek's nod to leave.
“Family of miss Y/L/N?”
Before Derek could utter a single word, Spencer's head snapped around to the sound of Y/N's name. A hiss left his lips at the crack his neck gave out. Derek watched Spencer carefully as they both moved to hear what the Doctor had to say.
“Em.”
Emily stopped staring at the TV to lift her attention to JJ, she wasn't paying attention, her mind was griped in worry for her best friend.
“Is Y/N pregnant?” JJ was specialized in talking to victims families, which means that she needed to smooth out the territory before revealing the awful truth, as a way to making them feel better even for an unique second. But now she didn't feel like beating around the bush. And by Emily's reaction she could tell she had been right. She breathed out in astonishment.
“Don't tell anybody. She just found out, she isn't ready to—”
“I wouldn't do that, Em.” JJ said softly. Emily gave her a look of gratitude. “So, Spence and her...”
“I'm still trying to figure that out myself.” Emily sighed heavily.
“His reaction when she got shot didn't made it clear enough for you?”
“I knew he was seeing someone.” Emily bit her cheek, “I knew she was seeing someone, too. But I didn't know they were seeing each other.”
Isn't she married? JJ wanted to ask but she stopped herself. This was none of her business.
Emily stood up with her eyes glued to a certain spot. When Jenifer followed her gaze, she saw there was a doctor talking to her co-workers. So, they made their way there.
“... also, there's no risk to the baby. They'll both be alright.” Emily froze her walking and JJ almost bumped into her back. Oh my god, she mentally yelled, studying Spencer in panic. He had a frown etched into his face. “Miss Y/L/N will only go through the usual recovery process and—”
“Wait— I'm sorry.” Spencer cuts her off as Derek shared a look with the girls behind the Doctor. “What did you say?”
The women raised her eyebrows, “Uh, the recovery process—”
“No,” He interrupted again, almost losing his patience. Emily would have to intervene soon. “About the—uh, the baby?”
The room seemed to go down to minus forty degrees when the specialist carried on. “Oh, of course. The fetus wasn't jeopardized by the wound or the loss of blood. She's still early on the pregnancy and there's higher risks on the first trimester, but there's absolutely nothing to worry about besides carrying on with the usual check-ups.” She regarded everyone that had gone quiet with curiosity. “You might visit her soon. She will be awake at any time now.”
“Right. Thank you so much.” Emily said, dismissing the women politely. When she left, Derek still had a lost look on his face, JJ was stealing a glimpse at Spencer's reaction and Spencer was... Well, he was staring at the floor. His mind working on full strength over the past few weeks.
Her behaviour. Literally, all of her behaviour lead to the present diagnosis.
He even rulled out pregnancy from the mental list he'd made when she had gotten sick. She had said it was just a bad stomachache. Since he hadn't seen her nauseous or dizzy after she claimed it, he let it go.
That's because I had not seen her at all these days.
But she had been distant this past week. Was this why?
How could he be so fucking dense?
“Reid?” Derek squeezed his shoulder and he blinked a bit startled. “You okay?”
“Yes.” No.
“Can I have a word with him, Morgan?” Emily appeared out of thin air by his side. No, she had been there all along, you idiot. It just feels like you're out of the loop right now. Get a grip.
As soon as Derek left, Emily cleaned her throat, making him look at her. “Reid, how are you feeling?”
He seemed to wake up at that moment, “Me?” His features suddenly smoothed out in realization. “You knew.”
Emily opened her mouth but shut just as soon as she did. “Spencer—”
“You knew she was pregnant and you let her go on in the case?” An indignant look took over his face as he retracted his arm from her reach. Not missing the way the hurt flashed though her eyes. “Emily, she could've—”
“There was no imminent danger, Spencer—”
“Yes, as we saw a few hours ago!” He snapped and stormed out, leaving her alone in the visiting room as he marched towards his girlfriend's room.
“Go.” Derek ordered the blonde that watched the scene unfold anxiously. She turned to him, “Go talk to Prentiss.” He nodded in the brunette's direction. Derek understood he wasn't needed, but JJ was. It's always JJ that deals with a solemn Emily in certain moments, somehow, she is the only one that knows what to do. What to say. And now she was needed. Because Spencer must've said something harsh as he usually do when he's mad. Jennifer knows, she was on the receiving end of his anger once.

Stop swimming.   Let it go.
Let it go.
Y/N didn't want to let it go.
She was a very good swimmer back in her youth, those skills don't go away with time, do they?
It felt like she was in the ocean. Barely keeping her head above water as her legs struggled below. Every time she tried to go forward, towards the trees, she felt something pulling her in, drowning her.
She could only see trees. No sand, no land. Just trees.
Not having the knowledge that you are dreaming can gift you a feeling of despair. That you don't know how you got there, why would you even be in the sea in the first place?
Although, having the knowledge that you're dreaming can be quite terrifying. You know it isn't real. This isn't really happening. But do you know when will it be over? It can go on for minutes but it always feels like hours, days even. Dreams are deceiving. Nightmares are entrapping.
She knew this wasn't real. And she was drowning. She couldn't breath. She couldn't see what was ahead because her vision was blurry.
Y/N didn't want to let go. She didn't want to stop fighting. But she was tired and desperate, there was no other way out.
She stopped swimming.
When she woke up first, she felt nothing. It was numb. Then, itchy sheets and a distinct but strong smell. There was a heaviness on her right hand which was the first thing she actually felt. Fluttering her eyes open, she was received with light green and white. Hospital. I'm in a hospital. After her brain made up where she was, the heaviness on her hand intensified to a squeeze. She turned to the side, blinking repeadly so her sight could adjust.
A hand grasped her own. She squeezed back still a bit confused. But when she looked up, a warmth filled her chest almost immediately.
Spencer.
“Hi,” The corner of his lips turned upwards as he watched her trying to grasp her surroundings.
“Hi.” Y/N swallowes, her throat was incredibly dry for someone that was drowning. He seemed to understand her actions as he offered a cup with a straw for her to sip the cool water. “Thanks.” She croaked out, clearing her throat. His hand supported her back as she shifted to a sitting position.
“How are you feeling?” Spencer asked, leaving the cup on her bedside table. Y/N studied him carefully.
“Fine. And you?” He raised his eyebrows and her forehead creased in confusion as she scanned over his features. No bandage, not even a bandaid on his face. “All that blood you had in you, Spencer." She said, lifting a hand to touch the side of his chin, turning it to the side. "How are you not in a bed right now?”
His eyes softened. “That wasn't my blood, sweetheart.” The crease in her forehead deepened. “It was yours. You got shot, Y/N.” He gave her hand another squeeze, this time bringing it to his lips.
It took her a while to understand that but Spencer waited patiently. She was still heavy on meds, it wasn't like he expected her to not be confused right after waking up.
“Right.” She said, eyes unfocused. “Did you... find the girl?”
“Yes. She's safe.” Spencer watched her attention drifting elsewhere. “Y/N?”
“What about the—”
“Arrested. We got them too. Are you okay?” He quickly studied her heart monitor screen to see if anything was altered.
Y/N shifted in her position. She was feeling uncomfortable. She felt naked. “Can you take these off?” She gestured for the cannula inserted in the back of her hand, frowning as she looked at it. “I hate it.” She wanted to scream. She felt trapped. Was she awake yet? This is real, right?
“No, sweetheart. It takes the medication into your system faster, you can't take it off.”
“Just— just get it off of me, Spencer.” The constriction in her airways made it difficult for her to breath. Her eyes assuming a moist aspect. Taking her hands in his was the way Spencer found to grab her attention, the heart monitor going off.
She hated needles. She hated hospitals all-together. That was one of the first things he learned about her when they were still getting to know each other.
“Hey, hey, look at me.” He cupped her face, locking their eyes.
Letting out a shallow breath she mumbled a tearful “I hate needles—”
“I know.” He said calmly. It was heartbreaking but he had to be the one who calmed her down. “Breath in for five and breath out for four, okay? Can you try it with me?” he requested softly, caressing her cheek.
She did it after a few seconds. During ragged breaths the repetition helped her chest fill up with oxygen again. Relief washing over her body.
It wasn't long until her head was resting upon Spencer's chest once he climbed up in bed with her in a rather uncomfortable position. He didn't care. As long as she was alright with it.
It took five minutes of idle conversation for Y/N to forget about the needles. Spencer made sure to cover her hand and forearm with the blanket so she wouldn't pay attention to it.
“You should get some sleep.” He muttered, kissing her temple softly.
“I was having a nightmare, I don't want to sleep.” She said quietly, playing with the fabric of his dark brown sweater vest.
A frown etched onto his forehead, “You wanna talk about it?” She denied the request with a shake of her head, leaning further into his touch.
Their moment was interrupted by a knock on the door and a doctor entered the room right after. The same woman that had given news about Y/N's wellbeing to the team before.
“Hello, Miss Y/L/N. I'm Doctor Young. How are you feeling now?” She strode to Y/N's side, eyes glued to the medical chart. Spencer split apart from Y/N to sit in a chair, giving her a smile to reassure he wouldn't be going anywhere.
“Tired.” Y/N shifted on the bed, “But fine.” Something seemed to come up in her mind. “Actually, I'd like to ask something.” She said, cutting Dr. Young off just as she was about to explain whatever was on her chart.
Y/N then gave Spencer a look that silently said she needed to talk to the woman in private.
“I'll go grab a coffee and be right back.” Spencer pressed his lips against her forehead, offering the doctor a tight-lipped smile as he left the room.
•°. *࿐
“I need to tell you something.”
She said as soon as he walked back into the room. God, it was hard to even swallow.
Spencer gave her a nod, taking a sip of the coffee. That's awful. He left it aside with a sigh, moving to sit beside her bed.
“You— I don't know how you'll react.” She said, her head working like wildfire.
“Why are you worried about how I'll react?”
“Because I lied to you.” Your breath stopped for a moment. “For a few days. Not on purpose, of course. I just— I wasn't ready to tell you yet.”
Spencer leaned back on the chair, “Okay,” he said calmly.
She surveyed his face, not being able to grasp what he was thinking. What he was feeling. He didn't let on any reaction. “Okay?”
“Okay.”
She hated profiles and their abilities to mask their emotions.
“Spencer.”
Spencer let out a sigh, leaning closer. He took your hand, carefully enough to not move the wires. “I won't be upset or mad at you. I promise, alright?”
She pursued her lips, inhaling longingly.
“I— I got a divorce.” Y/N let out, gulping. Is that it? Really? “Just waiting for the papers to be signed.”
Spencer hummed, brushing back her strands. “How are you feeling about this?”
Lifting her chin, she looked up at him confused. “What do you mean?”
“Your marriage just... ended.”
“That couldn't be qualified as a marriage, Spence.” She rolled her eyes. “I was done with him.” As soon as I met you. “I'm happy with you, do you understand that?”
Spencer nodded, smiling softly when he felt her fingers curl around his wrist and a tug at his arm. He sat on the edge of her bed just like before.
“There is something else.” She whispered, playing with his fingers to ease her mind.
“You can tell me,” He mumbled, pecking her forehead.
Y/N stammered before speaking, but when she finally said it it was like a weight lifted off her shoulders.
“I'm pregnant.”
Spencer didn't move nor did he said anything, which made her flinch away from him to take a look at his face. He was smiling. Almost grinning if it wasn't the fact that he was holding it back.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Her eyes narrowed at him. “Did you know?”
“Not exactly.”
Y/N stared at him in disbelief. “What do you mean not exactly, Spencer? Who told you?” Who even knew? was the question running around her mind.
“Nobody!” He widened his eyes, watching her getting worked up quickly. It really was not a good sight to make Y/N mad. A bit frightening, if you will. “Actually, Emily—”
“Emily?!”
“Sweetheart, let me speak.” Spencer asked kindly. Y/N pressed her lips together, her eyebrows creasing. “Emily had to tell the doctor and I overheard. That was it, alright?”
Y/N nodded, forehead smoothing slightly. “Yeah, okay.”
"Did you know that, statistically, 97% of people have one or more secrets; which makes it an average of 13 secrets per person? Depending on what you're keeping and who you are keeping it from, it can cause damages to your well-being, like reducing one's emotional resilience or cognitive issues and— I'm rambling." He winced, cutting himself off. "Sorry."
You chuckled, poking his cheek. "I told you I don't mind it when you do." With a clear of throat, she kept her gaze on him. "Thirteen secrets per person uh? How many of those have you kept from me, Doc?"
"You'll never know." She snorted, rolling her eyes as he smiled cheekily. She'd have to be one of the only people that actually paid attention when he drifted away from the main subject.
His eyes studied her for a bit before he grasped her attention again, “Why didn't you tell me? Do you know how dangerous it was for you to enter that case?”
“I'm pregnant, not stupid. I knew what I was doing.” Y/N retorted, giving him a look. “And I didn't tell you because— Because I wasn't ready yet. I didn't even know what I wanted to do yet. Was trying to figure out my own mind.” Her eyes softened, “But I am sorry.”
Spencer nodded understandingly, caressing her cheek. “It's okay.”
Her face scrunched up, “If I didn't know you any better I'd say you were excited.”
Spencer looked down at their hands, the corner of his lips lifting slowly as his mind worked with possible future images.
“Aren't you?” When he met her eyes he realised he shouldn't have assumed what she was going to do. He didn't want to induce her on anything. “I mean... What do you want to do? I'm sorry I didn't ask before—”
“It's fine.” She shifted on the bed, bringing her body closer to his. “I want to keep it.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. I've thought about it.” She shrugged, messing with the small part of his tie that was being displayed. Y/N lift her chin just like the previous position to look at him. “Are you okay with that?”
“If you are then I am,” he leaned down a bit to press a kiss against her lips. She hummed in response.
"But it doesn't just concern me, Spence. It's- It's bigger than that, isn't it? I don't want you to regret it later. So, just- just think about it."
He frowned, forehead twitching in confusion, "But it's not my choice, Y/N. It's yours. It's not my place to regret it or not- not that I ever would regret it," Spencer quickly added, squeezing her hand. "Just know that whatever decision, I'll be there, I won't leave your side. Never."
That was safety felt like. Not empty bed and cold sheets.
“I guess, I should let them in now?” Spencer said after a while of soft talk between them. Y/N frowned in confusion but then her eyes lit up in understanding.
“Right. Is everyone okay? Did anyone else get hurt?”
“No.” Spencer shook his head in response, brushing hair behind her ear. “Don't worry. They're all good. I'm gonna send them in now, alright?”
She nodded, adjusting the blanket on her lap.
As soon as Spencer left the room, a few seconds later, came in an exasperated Penelope Garcia. A grimace formed on Y/N's lips.
“What were you thinking scaring me like that!” The blonde exclaimed, walking towards her injured friend's hospital bed. “Ms. Y/L/N, you do not get to get shot and give me a heart attack, okay?”
“Sorry.” Y/N replied with a sad smile and quickly opened her arms in which Penelope found herself in no time. “Didn't mean to scare you, Pen.” They haven't known each other for long but in the little time they've had they clicked instantly. Especially because of their common interests.
Sniffling, Penelope nodded against her shoulder. “It's okay. It wasn't your fault, baby. But we were so worried.”
“You gave us a little scare there, hacker.” Derek chipped in, crossing his arms. He would admit later on that he actually took a liking to her in the meantime they were working together. “Glad you're okay. We all are.” He switched looks with the team and in the end locked eyes with Spencer, who was just watching everything quietly. “Especially pretty boy over there. He was out of his damn mind.”
Spencer cleaned his throat, finding something on the floor very interesting. Y/N gave him a soft smile.
Derek didn't need anything else to be said to understand what was going on between them. But he would most definitely have a talk to Reid another day.
“So, you're feeling good?” Emily studied her for a while.
Y/N gave her a reassuring smile and nodded, “Yeah. All good. Ready for another one, actually.”
“You're funny.” Spencer snarked, giving her a look to which she scrunched her nose at.
They stayed inside the room until the doctor kicked them out, because only one person per visit was allowed, not the entire FBI.
Y/N asked for Emily to stay behind before she could leave with the others. Emily did, her serious demeanor never changing.
Y/N knew what was going on inside her head.
“Em, it wasn't your fault,”
“You could've died.” Emily croaked out. Now that everyone had left she felt her will to cry growing even more. She almost lost her best friend. “Y/N, you could've died.”
“But I'm here. It barely grazed me, okay? Em.” Y/N mentioned her to get closer, offering her hand. It wasn't truth. The bullet hadn't barely grazed her. It had punctured her body which caused a big blood loss. But that was beside the point now. The important is to complete vanish this stupid idea of Emily's mind. “It was not your fault.” She said firmly, bringing her closer so she could embrace her. Feeling a nose burying in her shoulder and her hospital gown getting wet because of tears, she carried on. “I love you. Stop blaming yourself, I'm right here and we caught the bastards.”
They both shake with Emily's surprise laugh. Y/N is more than satisfied with the reaction.
“I love you, too. Don't ever scare me like that again, okay?”
“I promise.”
Emily left the room after they had their moment, and Spencer walked in not five minutes later. He didn't spare a word before diving straight into her arms. Carefully, of course, given her injuries.
"Oh, hello," said Y/N as a smile spread on her lips. But there was a hint of concern when he buried his nose into your neck and let out a shaky breath, "Hey, you okay, Doc?"
His voice was muffled by her clothing. She frowned, not understanding.
“Spencer, what did you say?”
He turned to the side, and she could see the man with a lazy grin over his lips.
“I said that I'm happy,” he repeated, trailing the edge of neck to her cheekbones with a finger. “I'm glad you're okay." He said, smile faltering. "I was so scared to lose you."
"I'm right here," she said, leaning her forehead on his. "Don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon." A hum of satisfaction left her throat when the corner of his mouth raised in a grin.
"That's good." He whispers. "Because I'm not going to let you go anywhere." Again.
Y/N tilted her head enough so their lips could meet. The kiss was slow, safe, it felt like it should happen. Like a lot of things in her life at that moment. Spencer pulled back when she started chuckling, brows knitting in confusion.
"What?"
She raised a finger, a silence request for him to wait her laughing fit stop. Spencer studied her face with a mix of amusement and slight concern. He stole a look at the heart monitor again.
“Are we going to be parents?” It's what leaves her mouth. Her face flushed as she recovered from the laughs. "How is this— That's insane, isn't it?" She scans his face for any trace of regret but only proceeds to find a fond gaze. "Oh, stop looking at me like that!"
"Like what?" He tries to hold back a grin but it's foolish.
"Like you're completely in love." She says, hand hovering over his vest absentmindedly. "You're going to get bored of me soon." She lets out quietly, watching as he prepares to protest. "Even so, would you take me as I am? Stubborn, paranoid, reckless and extremely hard headed?"
"You could say stubborn again."
"I will stick this needle into your jugular vein."
Spencer let out a boisterous laugh. His eyes wrinkling on the edges. There was no other reaction besides her fond gaze. She is so in love, she feels like an idiot.
“I will take you as you are," he took her hands in his, thumb drawing circles on her palms. His amber eyes met hers. "Stubborn, paranoid, reckless and extremely hard headed." He lists on, bringing one of her hands to his lips and then the other one, without breaking eye contact. "There's nothing that I would change in you and there's nothing that would make me love you any less than I do. I felt for who you are now and I will keep falling for who you will become in the foreseeable and unforeseeable future." He pauses. "I love you. Both of you."
Averting her eyes, she retracts her hands from his to wrap around his middle, burying her face in the croak of his neck. Vanilla and coffee and books. That's what he smells like. Home. She kissed the spot, shutting her eyes. She wouldn't dare going anywhere, this is exactly where she wanted to be.
"I love you, too, Spencer."

All my own head canons based entirely on the vibes
Harvey: late 30s/early 40s - medschool takes forever in the first place and I imagine you need extra experience to feel able to open your own doctors office (especially with as much anxiety as this man) so Harvey was Probbaly in his late 20s early 30s at the time he opened the clinic and is an established member of the community by the time you get there, so he’s been there a while.
Elliott: Early/mid 30s - He talks like a Victorian gentleman but I imagine he isn’t actually that old in reality? Not many facts to back this up other than he’s one of the older bachelors 🤷 I mean he’s the second oldest overall but amongst all the young adults in this list it’s not the hard to do-
Leah: Early/mid 30s - She clearly has life experience and it has been a few years since she left her ex-partner so she’s definitely into her 30s, how far into her 30s though I’m not sure tbh 🤷 definitely older than Emily though!
Emily: Early 30s - She gives off heavy ‘much older’ vibes when talking to and about Haley and vice versa, especially given Haley keeps talking about just how different they are implying they had different experiences in life, which implies a larger age gap. Also Emily gives off strange aunt vibes and I love her for that.
Shane: Early 30s - Given the general headcanon I see around the community that Shane was in or fresh out of uni at the time of acquiring Jas he’s most likely the youngest of the older bachelor(ette)s. Jas is only about 6 or 7 in game (according to me) so there’s no way Shane is that old following this logic.
Sebastian: Mid 20s - I imagine he’s the oldest of all the younger bachelor(ette)s. This is because he a) is Maru’s older brother (she herself being an adult), b) was most likely old enough to know what was happening when his bio parents seperated/his dad left for that angst to be this high (and Maru likely being born after this event) and c) is constantly annoyed by no one taking his job seriously. This annoyance of people not taking his job seriously feels a lot like he’s the oldest in his friend group and is beginning to grow up just a bit before the others.
Sam: Mid 20s - Despite everything Sam is still a rather mature person and while still keeping his puppy dog energy he is definitely at least in the 23-25 age range. I imagine he and seb went to school together and were in similar classes so they’d need to be similar aged for that as well.
Abigail: Early/Mid 20s - She’s definitely the youngest of her friend group but is still around their age, probably in the 22-23 age range.
Haley: Early/Mid 20s - She’s at least 8-10 years younger than Emily which is my entire basis for this. Also the fact she still takes Emily for granted when you first meet her and grows as you get to know her which would reflect her younger age.
Alex: Early 20s - He still has such high hopes for his grudgby career that he must still be rather fresh out of school. I’m not trynna trash on his dreams, it’s more the fact he only works a summer job while wishing to become a member of a sports team so he hasn’t had the soul crushed out of him yet.
Penny: Early 20s - I imagine she is actively in school to get a teaching degree but an online, experience based one. She would have to be somewhat through this course to be teaching Jas and Vincent so she would be in about the 21-22 age range.
Maru: 19-20 - Definitely the youngest bachelor(ette). This age is due to my Sebastian headcanon numbers can add up but also becuase she seems like she’s in that gap year ‘I don’t know what I’m gonna do with my life but I can do anything!’ Stage, hence why she is working at the clinic while helping her dad out while doing her own projects.
