hello! i hope this ask finds you well <3
i’m just looking for a bit of advice and i saw one of your posts about being disabled so i figured i might ask;
(to preface: i am not disabled) but sometimes my right hip does a weird thing and hurts for a bit on and off and i can’t really walk (my hips have always been weird - they pop really easily and hurt if i lay down on them for too long) and i was curious if you might have advice on how to deal with that? (though granted i don’t actually know what kind of physical disability you have so this might just be headed out into the aether)
(sorry if this is the wrong blog to ask!)
hello! sorry for getting back so late; i had school! and yes, you came to the right place! want to preface this with a disclaimer by saying i'm not a professional, and i recommend you talk with a doctor if possible. i also recommend doing your own research as i don't know you like you know you!
that aside, i have pots and hsd, both which cause me chronic pain. hsd, or hypermobikity spectrum disorder, causes me chronic joint pain. and good for you, my most common place of pain is in my hips, so i have a lot of experience with what your describing.
my biggest recommendation, other than talking with a doctor, is for you to try and stay off of it when it hurts. you can also apply heat or cold (with an ice pack, heating pad, etc.) to the area that hurts. that usually makes me feel better. i also recommend taking otc (over-the-counter) pain meds. take the dose it tells you to take, and that will usually help soothe the pain!
i also recommend that you keep your mind open to the idea that you could be disabled. if this pain is pretty common for you (as in it happens a couple times a week) and has lasted for at least 3 months with common occurrences, then it's considered chronic pain. if you have chronic pain, you are disabled. ofc i don't know you and can't say for certain! but keeping your mind open to the idea can help you more easily make that transition in the future if you are diagnosed with a disability or your symptoms become disabilitating.
i also recommend getting a cane if possible! canes help a lot with getting weight off of the leg that's hurting, thus allowing the pain to decrease. do not worry about "faking" being disabled. if you need a cane to lessen the pain you feel whilst walking or to support your walking, then use it! you would use your left (opposite of hurt leg) hand for the cane. you don't have to get one, of course, but they are a pretty cheap investment if you get them at a pharmacy or online, and they are extremely helpful.
but again, i can't recommend it anymore for you to see a medical professional. what you are describing sounds similar to my experiences with chronic pain, plus having pain flareups for seemingly no reason pretty consistently along with your hip feeling out of place or popping out of place, sounds like something to bring up to your doctor. based on the limited symptoms you gave, i recommend looking into heds, hypermobile ehlers-danlos syndromes (plus the other versions of eds), or hsd (which is what i have. both are hypermobility from a connective tissue disorder that causes a slew of symptoms, but a major one is joint instability and chronic pain. hsd is sort of a different part of the spectrum of eds, or just a different but similar disorder (scientists really don't know)).
some good medical websites that i use a lot for info on my own health as well as my medical science interst are the cleveland clinic, the nhs website, and mayo clinic. these have digestible pages of information about many different disorders and problems.
i also recommend keeping a list of your symptoms that don't seem entirely normal or healthy. also, keeping a journal of your pain flares and describing when and why it happens can help you track it and see if it worsens or gets better. i also recommend using these to look into possible disorders that you may have. advice given for any type of similar disorders with symptoms similar to yours (or that you might have) can greatly benefit you if you want more advice!
if you have any more questions you can dm me, use my ask box again, or ask someone else for another point of view! talking about it with many different people can give you many different and helpful perspectives that can help you figure out what's going on. i wish you all the best!

insomnia is something i used to struggle with a lot, especially in my later teens, when i had very poor mental health.
here are some things i've learned/tried:
using melatonin in the short term: a natural human hormone which can be taken as a supplement, often to alleviate jet lag. i prefer 300 mcg doses, since i will be drowsy for hours after waking up with the ones that are ~17+ larger; should only be taken to correct circadian rhythm, not as a sleeping pill
cold exposure: according to anecdotal research, the ideal ambient air temperature for sleep is ~18.33 C (65 F); however, a lot of factors can influence your core temperature, namely use of sheets/blankets, and thickness of clothing. if possible, adjust the air temperature and minimize use of covers.
physical activity: sleep is fundamental for recovery, yet if there is a lack of accumulated fatigue, it can almost feel like you're just decaying away in your sleep. there are numerous benefits to exercise, and many forms of it, as well. i would recommend nature walks, personally, in addition to climbing and swimming.
isolating factors to recreate a cave: i learned this from a book; in the strategies they mention to 'energize,' gradually reducing the amount of light in the room, wearing earplugs for sound isolation, and making a resolution to avoid electronic devices late at night are all things you can work towards.
mouth tape: nasal breathing is one of the most vital parts of healthy human function i've found in the past year. pranayama (yogic breathing) has a lengthy existence, and is definitely worth looking into. however, when you sleep, the autonomic nervous system takes over; i've experimented with a lot of different things, but i've found micropore surgical tape is cheap and effective for mouth taping (along with nose strips you can purchase from amazon, or perhaps your local pharmacy).
habits/routines: one of my favorite books is Atomic Habits by James Clear, which has become very popular since my first read. it mentions the key to creating a positive identity is repeating all the actions you do intentionally, which lead into the ones you eventually perform subconsciously. sometimes, we get caught in a spiral of all the things we have to do that we don't make time for our health. even just one good thing compounded every day for a year will dramatically improve your quality of life.
naps: best performed within a midday timeframe - i've loved long naps in the past, but i have also been stuck staring at my ceiling for hours because i couldn't sleep from very long naps earlier in the day. despite that, there's a lot of napping schedules which are worth a try, like 'everyman' and 'siesta.'
there's likely a lot of things i missed, which i will omit because it would take me a ridiculous amount of time to remember; we need sleep, but interestingly, most people don't desire it - one of the feelings i would love to share with everyone is the bliss of waking up from an uninterrupted night of sleep.
tl;dr: many small healthy habits will build up to improve your sleep quality. environmental design is paramount, as you need an environment conducive to sleep. sleep is predicated on the need to recover from fatigue, so exercise is almost a necessity for quality rest. try sleep aids like earplugs, blindfolds, and nose strips if you can't isolate every environmental factor!
wow I appreciate this so much but unfortunately my insomnia is chronic since birth and anything u can think of has been attempted hahahaa melatonin has no affect on me - I have prescribed literal sedatives instead which would knock most ppl the fk out but only sometimes help for me if I time everything perfectly 😂😂😭 last night I was able to sleep though I just was in a lot of physical pain making it a lot harder but I got to sleep eventually thank god! I WISH I had the ability to take naps dude!!! but sadly I very rarely can 😫 I appreciate this message regardless I’m sure it will be helpful to someone!!!!💗

heya! you dont know me i dont think if u do i am very sorry i dont know usernames super well, but your post asking for help with smoke came up on my dash and im an asthmatic whose spent a couple wildfire seasons dealing with smoke and i got word limited so i am in here
so i dont have too much about properly recovering from smoke inhalation but i did have to do a lot to prevent it getting worse- i have asthma and i actually forgot my inhaler was an option so if you have one on hand definitely use it smoke brain is a killer. also make sure you chug water like your life depends on it although you've got ice chips so im assuming you're already on that- hot water and tea felt really nice for me. saline is also a friend it helps with the dried/burning feeling in my nose (you can get them for pretty cheap at a lot of pharmacies so you can snort it). also taking a hot shower helped because the steam was really nice
putting wet towels in the cracks in the doors and windows can help. covering your nose and mouth with one can also be helpful especially if your room is especially smokey (it is a bit harder to breathe but it can help trap some of the larger particles floating around and personally just made me feel better).
also washing my face a lot- my eyes and face were constantly burning so making sure you splash your face regularly to get that crap out of your eyes can help.
There are also instructions online about how to make cheap air filters with a box fan and a furnace filter you can get for pretty cheap that can also help clean up the air in your house
I read this last night and have not been this grateful for someone sending an ask in a WHILE. The face washing helped, i didnt even realize my eyes had been burning until afterwards YEESH
Luckily my room isnt super affected by the smoke, the filters r pretty good, but sealing up the windows with towels made a noticeable difference
Mighth scramble to get some saline and cough drops today? They seem to be a common recommendation. Thank you so so much for the advice i owe u my life. I hope its ok if i tag this in relation to the fired just cause im sure other ppl are looking for the same advice as me

another important time of year to know about that begins in june is hurricane season.
if you live in an at-risk area, make sure you have all the supplies you need. i live in miami, so you bet your ass we're getting all the batteries, non-perishables, emergency supplies, etc. that we need.
do not wait until a storm is approaching to prepare. panic may ensue after a storm is announced. items may become hard to find. get them now while there is not much going on.
here's a list of items to stock up on. ill also put it here bc if you dont read any of the links from this post i want to be sure you at least read this. this is (in no particular order) the list from Ready, the site NOAA has linked:
water. Ready recommends a gallon per person per day for several days; get what you can. be sure you also have water for pets if you have them.
food. have several days' worth of non-perishable food. again, be sure to get food for pets as well if needed. if the food is in cans, make sure you've got some way of opening them, i.e. manual can opener. dont rely on an electronic can opener. (optionally, extra plates, utensils, etc.)
radio, etc. ESPECIALLY if you're in a risk zone, your power can go out so fast. so can cell service, etc. know which devices work without power, which require a charger, and which can work without internet.
flashlight. generally a good thing to have anyway. harbor freight has rly bright ones for cheap, theyre by the front counter
first aid kit. again, generally a good thing to have in or out of hurricane season.
covid preventative measures. especially if you're living with other people — you may end up in close quarters for days at a time or longer, and that's gonna get really bad really fast if you don't have some way to ward off the virus
MEDICATIONS!!!! i can say from experience that hurricanes and even just storm surges have a very real chance of messing up your ability to get your prescription. all it takes is a power outage and the pharmacy to be like oh :( sorry cant give u ur meds now :( computer isnt working :( and you can get screwed so easily. also, check up on your supplies of any over-the-counter stuff you may need to use, especially if regularly (for example, ibuprofen and similar that might be needed for menstrual cramps)
menstrual products (pads, tampons, etc.). you will want to have enough of these for a while. make sure to account for anyone else you're living with who needs them too.
baby care products. Ready specifically lists formula, bottles, diapers, wipes, and diaper rash cream.
diversions for kids. Ready lists this too, and i can say from experience — being trapped inside without power during a hurricane as a kid is not only terrifying, but also boring as all hell. you don't really understand what the adults are talking about, you just know that you're possibly in danger and that your games arent working because of it, and it sucks. i highly recommend legos, but even a silly board game can be enough for a couple hours.
batteries. yes okay sure maybe you have batteries. but please double-check — are they the right kind? do you have enough for the things you may need to use them for? also keep track of batteries for devices such as hearing aids, which you are less likely to be able to find batteries for from a neighbor
whistle to signal for help. you can get em for like 3-4 bucks
dust mask for contaminated air. i tried to find whether this can be a covid mask, but no dice. lmk if you know! in the absence of any evidence that the two are completely interchangeable, i would recommend to get a separate dust mask just in case. harbor freight sells em in packs of 10 for 3-4 bucks. also keep in mind that not all dust masks are designed for use against covid
plastic sheeting and duct tape. this one is to seal up the walls in case of danger outside — here's how to do it. (Look at the section titled "Sheltering in place".)
wet wipes, garbage bags, plastic ties
wrench or pliers to turn off utilities. here's how to do it. be sure you know which tools can be used for what BEFORE you have to go do it yourself. while you're at it, check if you've got any tools you need to repair damage to mobility aids, etc.
maps of the area. if you dont know your area, if you're dorming or rooming and don't know what's around, whatever your situation — trust me, you do not want to have to rely on an electronic device to get to where you need to be. know what you're looking for in advance if possible.
phone, charger, etc.
other important supplies based on what you might need:
glasses + lens solution. once again, this is pretty much just a thing that's generally good to have. but also remember that a lens wipe can only do so much if your glasses are covered in large particles or particles in a large amount
cash, important documents, etc. preferably in a waterproof container. Ready specifically lists insurance policies, identification and bank account records.
blanket or sleeping bag for each person. yet another instance of something that is generally good to have.
full change of clothing + shoes. if you can get good, sturdy shoes — great. but if you have a pair of extra shoes, that's fine too.
fire extinguisher. i'll be honest — i've never included this in the kit, and i don't have one, but Ready lists it as an item some people might need. idk. if you feel like you might need one, you can look into it — they do seem to be among the pricier items on the list, though.
this list will show you your evacuation zone if you live in the eastern/southern US:
this shows flooding zones in the US and Puerto Rico:
please feel free to add on any other resources you know of!

Also a pharmacy technician (at Walgreens), and if you're a Walgreens customer I'd definitely recommend walgreens.rxsense.com over Scriptcycle -- just tried three different drugs and Scriptcycle had a worse price at Walgreens on all of them (in one case it had $205 when RxSense had $32). But if you're willing to shop around and transfer pharmacies, Scriptcycle might be good (supposedly Scriptcycle's coupon for Discount Drug Mart gets that same drug down to $8).
Some more hyper-specific advice:
Paxlovid? Most people are eligible to get it free/cheap through the Paxcess program.
Brand name drug? Google "[name of drug] discount card" – most brand manufacturers offer discount programs (if you have insurance, these often can lower your co-pay).
Take an over-the-counter drug regularly? OTC drugs are sometimes way cheaper if you get your doctor to write you a prescription instead of just buying them from the store. Example: 90-count of cetirizine (generic Zyrtec) is $32.99 from the store, but $2.52 with an RxSense coupon. (**some caveats, see below fold)
Tretinoin with no insurance? Get the pharmacy to change it to the Retin-A brand and use GoodRx; it's like half the price (you might have to wait a day though -- many places don't stock it normally).
There's too many little things to list them all though; the best advice I can give is to befriend your local pharmacy tech and ask very very nicely if there's any way to get the price down. Sometimes we can't, but sometimes there might be a better price with just a minute or so of effort, so please just ask!
**This generally only applies if we use a generic manufacturer (e.g. Rugby, Major, Camber, etc) and NOT the Walgreens store brand. For some drugs (like cetirizine), we basically never use the store brand, but for others (especially vitamins), we often do. You can ask us to try switching manufacturers to see if it's cheaper (you may have to wait for us to order in that other manufacturer though).
Dudes healthcare is so fake. My ADHD meds are $940 without insurance. But they gave me a website of "coupons" which straight up looks like a scam website, and I got it today for $60! Just a coupon from a random website and it was $900 cheaper. America, I am confusion!! America explain!!

Montreal - part 1
I figured a trip to a city that I've never seen anything of but the train station, wouldn't be without its adventures and incidents, but I didn't figure those experiences would start with the trip barely even begun. Who knew? The bus station in Hamilton has self-flushing toilets. I also didn't know that the next trip experience would include me developing a head and chest cold on the train to said city. So, my first purchase in Montreal was a bottle of decongestant. Yummy. Never used Robitussin before, and I have to say that it doesn't taste too bad. Certainly tastes better than Buckley's. (Anything would, though.) We walked from the train station to the hostel we were staying at, and on the way passed St. Patrick's Basilica which is a lovely old church dedicated to, and used by, the city's Irish Catholic population. We visited Notre Dame on our last day, which was very lovely, and very blueish. (I never did get to see its named counterpart when I was in Paris, much to my regret.) I'm not a church-going person by any stretch of the imagination, but I like visiting old churches. Some are quite lovely. Our first impression of the city was, "Gosh, it's awfully quiet for a big city on a Saturday afternoon." That impression quickly changed when we headed off to Rue St. Catherine later on. That's one of the main streets, and it seems Montreal retains quite a lot of European style habits that don't seem to exist in other Canadian big cities; namely that all the action is concentrated (more or less) on what (in England) would be called the high street. That street is covered in what one would normally find on a high street; lots of shops, restaurants, a few theatres, and lots of people. Surviving in Montreal isn't too difficult for non-French speakers, since the city is not only well-used to tourists, but is what could be termed the English city of the French province. One of the best universities in the country is there (McGill), and it's an English university. (Most of it scattered through various buildings lining Stanley Street, which goes up a hill towards Mount Royal. Must be hell in winter.) Montreal, like many large cities worldwide, has its own Chinatown, which is marked off by these really lovely gates. (Unfortunately the picture I took of one of those gates, got deleted.) The pharmacy there has a pharmacist who can, according to the sign, speak English, French, and six different dialects of Chinese. It's not a large Chinese section, from what I could gather, but it wasn't without its charms. It had what a Chinatown usually has; lots of shops, lots of restaurants (from very Chinese to very catering-to-North-Americans), and lots of people. The hostel was stayed at (Auberge Alternative du Vieux Montréal), located in Old Montreal near the port and right across the street from what used to be the Central Fire Station but is being reconstructed to be a museum, was quite nice. The people (staff and guests) were friendly, the place was well-equipped, and it was cheap. ($18 per night) I'd recommend it to anyone; and, according to other guests I heard talking, it ranks between 8 and 9 on a hostel scale of 1 to 10.
The metro (subway, tube, underground, etc.) was a metro, but not full of the sort of graffiti one imagines the New York subway to possess. It was clean, and extensive enough. The cars were narrower than the ones in Toronto, but the trains ride quieter, as the cars use rubber wheels. (Fare is $2 per trip, but you can buy a strip of tickets - I think it's 10 - for about $8.50. They also have monthly passes and special three or four day passes mainly geared for tourists.) Though the metro is nice, the only way to see the city is really by foot. It might be a lot of walking, and some of it uphill, but you miss so much of the flavour by staying underground or on buses.
We ate some traditional regional food, of course, but that's one thing you should (in my not so humble opinion) always do when you visit a place you've not been before. There's the smoked meat that the city is well-known for, which is just smoked ham, and poutine. Poutine is French fries covered in gravy and cheese curd. It's really, really yummy. The city has other European touches; like the proliferation of cafes, and the existence of what the population of France would term a tabac. That's just a small shop, smaller than a convenience store, that sells cigarettes, beer, wine, junk food, and small things like that. One thing you have to bear in mind, though, should you stay in Old Montreal, is that there don't seem to be too many grocery stores or tabacs. There's one five minutes walk from the hostel we stayed at, but there didn't seem to be any others, and the closest pharmacy is the one for Chinatown. It's not that far of a walk, though. The city has two IMAX theatres, which is very nifty, and has (of course) the Olympic Stadium. Right under the stadium, in a building that was used for sports like handball and such, is a place called the Biodome. This is now used as an indoor zoo. It's an amazing place. It's set up as forests, each room playing host to a different style of forest. There's an Amazonian type jungle room with crocodiles, tropical birds and fish, and a Laurentian forest room which plays host to North American wildlife. (Including a water area with seagulls… seemed a bit useless to add a room with seagulls, the damn things are all over - like pigeons - but I suppose that's the point.) Another thing to keep in mind, is that sometimes Montreal has what's called Museum Day (not sure how many times a year they do this), and on this day most of the city's museums are free. I think the Biodome has a cost to get in, but it seems that it might be free after a certain hour of the day, since we paid nothing to get in. It costs $10 to go up the elevator in the tower of the Olympic stadium, which might be a bit pricey, but it's really a lovely view of the whole city.

Old Town Square Estonia
Tallinn, Estonia - 12 April 2020. Corner of the town hall square in the old town, where the oldest pharmacy in Europe is located. The most picturesque places in the city. Medieval architecture.
Why you need to visit Tallinn, Estonia
Tallinn may once have been famed as a cheap go-to destination for rowdy stag parties, but there is so much more to this beautiful city than that. Filled with pastel coloured houses and pretty squares, Tallinn is a photographer’s dream. Tallinn’s old town is incredibly well-preserved and absolutely beautiful, with some of the best examples of medieval architecture in northern Europe. Read on for what to see in this charming Baltic town:
Wander Around the Old Town Square
The best thing about Tallinn’s old town is that is all doable on foot, so you can relax and wander around pretty cobbled side streets in peace. Everything centers on the Raekoja plats (old town square), where you’ll find bars and restaurants aplenty, surrounded by the distinctive tall merchants’ houses on all sides. Visit in winter and you’ll find the town Christmas tree and a vibrant Christmas market.
Walk the Town Walls
Tallinn is a city best enjoyed from above, and what better way to see it than to climb up winding spiral stairs to the top of the city walls? From here you’ll be able to look out over the distinctive red rooftops that make the Estonian capital so charming.
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
This stunning Russian Orthodox cathedral was built in 1900, when Tallinn was still part of the Russian empire. It was almost destroyed at one point as some Estonians see it as a symbol of oppression, however the beautiful cathedral has now been restored.
Kohtuotsa Viewpoint
The perfect place to get your bearings, the Kohtuotsa viewpoint affords stunning views over the pretty red rooftops of Tallinn’s old town. Only a short walk from the main square, you can’t miss it.
The view from the Kohtuotsa Viewpoint
Kadriorg Palace
A short tram ride from the city centre will take you out to Kadriorg Palace, an impressive 18th century estate complete with colourful facade and exquisite gardens. Built for Peter the Great in 1718, the Russian Tsar used to use the palace as one of his summer residences (although rumour has it that the Tsar didn’t actually stay in the palace, preferring more modest accommodation!).
Coffee and Pastries
Tallinn is a cafe-lover’s heaven, with cute little coffee shops hidden away all over the city. I can highly recommend RØST (they do the most divine pastries) and also the Kalamaja area, where you’ll find the Telliskivi creative city, a former industrial area that now houses Tallinn’s coolest bars, cafes and restaurants.
How to integrate Tallinn into a longer trip
But, did you know that Helsinki is only a 1.5 hour ferry trip away from Tallinn? And that from there you can continue on to St Petersburg, where you can get a special short-term easy Russian visa as a ferry passenger? Or, head in the other direction and hop on a bus to Riga – it’s only 5 hours and the journey goes quickly if you have some good series on Netflix pre-downloaded.
If you’re thinking about visiting Tallinn then why not get a copy of the Estonia Lonely Planet here. Please note that I receive a small kick-back if you purchase a book through this affiliate link (the price of the book remains the same). This allows me to continue providing travel advice for free!

Sleep Aid Shopping Made Easy: How to Safely Buy Sleeping Tablets Online
In today's fast-paced world, getting a good night's sleep can feel like a luxury. For those struggling with sleep disorders like insomnia, finding effective solutions is crucial. Thankfully, buying sleeping tablets online has become a convenient option for many. However, safety is paramount when purchasing medications on the internet. Here's how to navigate the process and ensure a safe and successful experience.
First and foremost, it's essential to choose a reputable online pharmacy when looking to buy sleeping tablets online. Look for websites that are licensed and accredited, as this guarantees the quality and authenticity of the products they sell. Reading customer reviews and checking for certifications can help verify the credibility of a pharmacy.
When browsing sleeping tablets online, pay close attention to the active ingredients and dosage recommendations. Different sleep aids may contain varying ingredients, so it's crucial to select the one that best suits your needs and preferences. Additionally, consulting with a healthcare professional before making a purchase is advisable, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.
Another aspect to consider is payment security. Only use secure payment methods when buying online sleeping tablets to protect your personal and financial information. Reputable online pharmacies typically offer encrypted payment gateways to ensure the safety of transactions.
Lastly, be wary of unrealistically low prices or suspicious offers. While affordability is important, excessively cheap sleeping tablets may be counterfeit or of inferior quality. Opting for reasonably priced products from trusted sources is a safer bet in the long run.
If you buy sleeping tablets online, it can offer a convenient and effective solution for improving sleep quality. By following these tips and prioritizing safety, you can confidently navigate the process and enjoy a restful night's sleep. Remember, prioritize safety and quality when purchasing sleep aids online to ensure optimal results. To find out more, visit us at Apothekedirekte!

What French skincare brands do you recommend? Is the Nuxe oil worth it? I’d love to visit the pharmacy there in Paris someday. I just need to better my French because I’m still at A1 lol. I’ve tried La Roche Posay, Bioderma and Vichy and I like them both. Merci beaucoup ☺️💐
Salut anon 🧡
I don't use french skincare brands because they're catering to White women's skin and never really did anything for me lol
NUXE Huile Prodigieuse (you can use for both skin or hair) is nice though.
I heard American tourists were doing razzia of Biafine cream when they were in France because they're really cheap here but super pricey in the USA(?). They used it as a DAY CREAM??!!? Yall crazy lmao Biafine is a cream for damaged/dehydrated skin (burn or stretch marks for example) NOT a day (face) cream 🥴. I have one for foot dryness (their CICABiafine line). You shouldn't use it on you face because Biafine formula is just too rich and not made to be applied on face skin 🥴
I use Bioderma Atoderm hydrating cream (normal-dry skin) for my body (Black skin is usually EXTREMELY DRY and that's the few times when them White people's brands are actually useful because they cater to skin dryness (a problem many Black people have). My sister use the VERY dry skin version and she says its great so Bioderma is Black women approved brand lmao

I feel (as an author) kind of the same way about book piracy that I feel (as a visual artist) about AI art taking jobs from artists, or (as a crafter) about cheap sweatshop-made crafts sold at Walmart and on Amazon.
Basically... the evil genie is out of the bottle, the can of parasitic worms has been opened, now that it's started it can't really ever be turned back, and MAYBE if it gets socially unacceptable enough, then things will improve for independent creators, but there are so many things stacked against it that I doubt we'll ever return to a time when one could reasonably expect to make a living from creativity.
If you ask me individually for advice on where to get things, I will always recommend the options that support the independent makers. But if you ask me how to change society so that artists can survive, I'll shake my head and say who the hell knows, probably nothing short of universal basic income.
(I give away my ebooks regularly, because I've resigned myself to getting most of my income from the exhausting pharmacy job for the foreseeable future, and as for my writing I care more about recognition by now than money. If you want the Kea's Flight series for free but don't want to pirate, the Smashwords giveaway thing starts December 12. Same with all my other books. It's all I can do at this point.)
alright for the millionth time I'm seeing yet another author I admire talk about how they literally can barely afford to live & yet there are people openly admitting to pirating their books so, like
i guess it needs to be said again
pirating books is not the same as pirating your favourite Disney movie or whatever. book piracy kills author's incomes and can genuinely ruin someone's career
