it's nice to see mystery trio aus that aren't fiddlestan tbh. The amount of times I'll see one, think it looks interesting, and then it just turns into "wow Stan, you're so much nicer and cooler than your lame brother! Lets date!" And act like it's some kind of karma for Ford or something.

I definitely agree with your take that so often fiddlestan is just used as a way to express dislike of Ford, while ignoring any of Stan's canonical flaws

As a side note, since this is more of personal headcanon territory, but i think Stan would find Fiddleford too reminiscent of Ford when he was young to actually be interested.

Anyway, i always love to see Stan in his natural habitat (being a chaotic uncle)

I love the idea of the Mystery Trio. I think these three would play off each other really well. They're cute and funny together, but you don't need Fiddlestan. It feels like people treat it as a given that if offered the choice between Stan and Ford Fidds would choose Stan. Which is kind of shitty. (Low key it kind of reads to me like Ford is assumed the worse partner because he's autistic :/ even if people aren't consciously treating him that way.)

I think it's kind of presumptuous to assume Fidds would be into Stan anyway. Like physically attracted to him? Sure, obviously. If he finds Ford attractive odds are good Stan would also be nice to look at, but relationships aren't just physical attraction and it's obvious from the journals and BOB that Fidds had a very strong connection to Ford. If he's in love with an autistic nerd enough to throw his life away for him why would people assume Stans's wildly contrasting personality would somehow be more appealing?

I've actually had this comic kicking around in my mind for a while and this ask gave me a good excuse to draw it. (Though it took longer than expected)

While I don't think Fidds would ever choose Stan over Ford, I do think Ford would be a bit of a jealous and insecure partner. He's used to a lot of social rejection and struggles to maintain connections with people. Not to mention trust issues, especially after Bill who tried to sabotage his faith in Fiddleford in particular.

I wouldn't put it past Ford to get antsy seeing Fidds get along with his brother even if there's absolutely nothing going on there.

Also, I hadn't considered the suggestion that Stan might find Fidds nerdiness a turn-off because it reminds him too much of his brother, but yeah I could see it. Still, I'd buy Stan being interested in Fidds before I could really see the other way around happening. I think Stanley's tastes are bit broader but Fiddleford I imagine to have a bit more of a type. At least where romantic attraction is concerned. That said I don't think Fiddleford's actual tastes are really considered, I think he gets shipped with Stanley by people who want to see Stanley get that kind of overbearing love that Fidds showed to Ford. I do understand wanting to give him that kind of partner but Ford deserves love too, we don't need to be taking his healthy romantic option away from him and leave him with Bill. (His abuser.)

You know, I feel the same way about superhero stories as OP does about vampires. It's usually pretty annoying when a zombie story gets all meta and has characters go around talking about how "this is just like my survival fantasy animes", but it's also iffy when everyone just pretends they never heard about zombie apocalypse stories, and refuses to even say the world "zombie". Sure, they're "walkers", or "shamblers" or whatever.

And the meta thing's not really an issue with stories where someone gets a superpower. In fact, it's really welcome. Because there's both this immediate contrast (real superpowers aren't like the ones in the comics!) and a handy justification for a lot of the characters (I've seen superhero stories my whole life, so I want to act out my own, too.)

I think the reason for that is, even though superhero stories precede zombie apocalypse ones for a few years, the genre is less calcified as one single thing. That's not to say I don't like zombie stories, but they feel less diverse when it comes to setting.

When a ficitonal character has a superpower, it's just something that's happened to them. They might think they're in a superhero story because they've read many before, but that's not necessarily the case. They might turn out to be Ben 10 or Danny Phantom, but they might also be Brightburn or Inuyashiki. They might even just be Alex Mack. Something different happened to each of these characters, and they're trying to fit the "superhuman abilities" peg into the "crime-fighting hero" hole with varying degrees of success.

Zombie stories, on the other hand, work by a different set of rules. Even if they're not just Dawn of the Dead. Planet Terror is a very different story from The Last of Us, and they're both different from Zombie Strippers or Fido, but despite the rules in these stories not being the same, they're pretty much about the same thing happening, and the consequences are similar, even if the tones aren't.

I can't really think of a way of making a zombie story that changes the foundations of the genre the way metahuman stories do, while still being identifiable as a zombie story. But that might just be a "me" problem.

Zombie fiction has a problem, which is that in the real world, zombie fiction exists.

So you have two basic approaches: either you have the protagonists and general public say "what's happening, why are the dead rising, I got bit but I'm going to be fine", or you have the protagonists say "this is so weird, it's just like in all that zombie fiction!"

These are both annoying in their own way, but I find the latter approach to be more deeply irritating, personally, the kind of meta that's just lazy and overdone in spite of not having been done all that often.

This is a problem that notably doesn't exist in most other genres. People go to look up vampires on their computer all the time, and they say "wait, the legends are true??", and the vampire says "I did like like our depiction in Nosferatu very much". This is totally fine, the legends bled into popular culture or whatever. But zombie fiction is among those that can't do this, because it's a different kind of story, and there's no hiding it, no covering it up. If zombies were in any way real there would be mandatory training on how to kill them and CDC warnings and structural responses, which does substantially take away from the genre.

Now, would I read a zombie story that took place in a world where zombie outbreaks were a semi-regular occurrence with policies and procedures and discourse and training? Yeah, I guess, if it was well-written. But most of the long-running zombie stories get there eventually, once all the survivors have been doing the survival thing, and I can think of a few examples. It's hard to get right, much harder than the "what is happening, what is this" sort of story.

　　　　rain poured down heavily outside the police station, soaking the empty streets and sidewalks of the city. the sound of water droplets hitting the metal roof and glass windows made the atmosphere feel silent, only interrupted by the occasional clap of thunder in the distance.

street lights reflected light on puddles of water that began to pool on the edge of the sidewalk. behind the office windows, several officers seemed busy with their work, while the roar of the rain that never stopped—as if adding to the impression of silence and seriousness. the smell of wet soil and humid air added to the tension, as if a sign that something was happening out there.

on one of the police officers' desks, a 25-year-old man with (h/c) hair sat casually on a chair right in front of the desk, his legs is crossed, and his arms folded in front of his chest.

his slightly wrinkled clothes seemed to contrast with the serious atmosphere around him. with a tight black shirt that showed off his broad chest and a slightly wet leather jacket hanging on the back of his chair.

a police officer sits across from him gave the man a tired gaze, as if he was already very familiar with the man's behavior. "so, you're causing a commotion again, huh (m/n)?" the policeman said, his voice flat, as if he was no longer surprised by the man's behavior. the man called '(m/n)' smiled slightly, seeming not to be in a hurry.

"i know, i know. i often cause trouble. But this time is different, sir—those fucking bastards were harrassing an innocent lady." he answered in a relaxed tone, almost as if he was telling a story to a friend, and not in an interrogation room.

the policeman took a deep breath. "you say that every time, right? but why does it always end here?" the man shrugged, his expression remaining calm, even too calm. "it can't be helped, sir. if i don't step in, who else will help that lady? sometimes, other people are too much of a cowards to interfere in such matters."

some officers who passed by glanced and shook their heads, they had seen this man's face appear in the police station too often. from small cases to bigger problems. the atmosphere became a little tense, but also not free from boredom. most of people in this police station already knew that this man, although he was here often, had a different perspective.

he came with seemingly noble reasons, but the methods he chose always got him into trouble.

"acting like a hero on the streets won't always solve the problem, you know?" the policeman said while staring at (m/n) sharply, but there was a tired tone in his voice. "but yeah, we're used to it... cases like this never get solved, right?"

(m/n) laughed softly. "Sometimes we just have to get down to business. i can't just stay still." the man said casually as he lean back on his chair.

the police station door opened with a soft squeak. a tall man stepped in, wearing a dark suit that was slightly wet from the rain and a pair of rectangular glasses perched on the bridge of his nose.

alhaitham, a detective with fair skin and gray hair, entered the room with calm and calculated steps. although not so striking in appearance, the mysterious and firm aura that surrounded him was enough to make people around him turn away, even without him saying a word.

he passed several tables with a sharp gaze, as if reading every corner of the room and every little detail that might be missed by ordinary eyes. the atmosphere that was initially lively suddenly became quieter when several police officers who were busy typing or talking glanced at each other, realizing his presence.

(m/n) who was sitting on a chair with folded arms and a relaxed expression, suddenly turned his head, his eyes catching the figure of Alhaitham who had just stepped in. unconsciously, he noticed the detective's movements-his presence that was different from ordinary people made him curious.

alhaitham did not realize that he had been watched by the man with (h/c) hair, he seemed used to other people's gazes on him. he seemed busy checking the files at the reception desk, ignoring the hustle and bustle around him for a moment. however, the man who just got involved in a fight continued to look at him with curiosity clearly visible on his eyes.

"who is he, sir?" (m/n) finally asked in a low tone, his relaxed voice breaking the silence that enveloped the police station.

the officer sitting in front of him just shrugged, used to such questions. "that's alhaitham, a detective who is sometimes assigned here. he works mostly alone, i heard he is a genius who has solved cases so perfectly."

the troublemaker of a man nodded slowly, eyes still focused on alhaitham who continued to move around the room. "no wonder... there's a different... vibes. it seems, this guy is not just anyone," he muttered, more to himself, but loud enough for the officers nearby to hear.

alhaitham's green eyes that were focused on the file suddenly caught the man's figure. for a moment, the two of them stare at each other, although no words were spoken. alhaitham realized the gaze, but he did not show any excessive reaction. he just continued his work, as if unaffected by the presence of the curious man.

however, (m/n) felt something interesting, something in the detective that invited his curiosity even deeper.

the (h/c) haired man almost got up from his chair, wanting to approach alhaitham who was checking the files with focus. there was a sense of curiosity that surged within him, something that made him want to know more about the gray-haired detective who had just entered.

the first step had already swung when he started to move, but suddenly a hand of the policeman who was interrogating him—who had previously just been sitting casually on the chair—now reached out and held the man's shoulder gently but firmly.

"uh-uh, where do you think you're going?" said the policeman in a low voice, almost a whisper. "we're not done here yet."

the man turned his head, his gaze a little surprised, but not angry. "what else? i just want to chat with him for a moment," he answered casually, trying to pull his shoulder away from the policeman's hand that was holding him.

the officer shook his head slowly, his expression was familiar with this man's behavior. "don't cause any more trouble. we just talked about your own case, right? don't bother him."

however, the troublemaker still tried to escape from the police's restraint, with high curiosity in his eyes. "i won't bother him, i just want to talk. i'm curious about him, he seems like a different person. sir," he answered with a light voice.

the policeman took a deep breath, not too surprised by the man's attitude. "you know what will happen if you fight back, right?" he said in a slightly sharp tone, trying to hold back his patience.

the (h/c) haired man paused for a moment, realizing that he might get himself into more trouble if he continued to resist. he sat back down with a look of dissatisfaction evident on his face. although he would have preferred to talk to the gray haired man, he knew that this interrogation was not over yet and there was no point in making any more trouble.

"okay, sir. I understand," he said with a frown, but his gaze still did not leave detective alhaitham who was still busy minding his own bussiness. "but I'm still curious about him."

the policeman nodded slowly, as if he had predicted the man's reaction. "you still have plenty of time to chat, but don't cause any trouble. wait until we done."

the man finally sat back down, although his curiosity about the detective had not disappeared. he knew that if he had the chance, he would definitely approach the detective. But this time, he had to hold back and wait until the interrogation was over.

Do you think there is parallel between Peter and ron.

Fandom does Peter wrong. That is a fact. He is either absent or is present just for comic relief or is pure evil. But all those characterisation are simply cartoonish. As if written by a person who is living in la la land...

Peter, just like Lupin, we only know major things about him. But like not many people see lupin as a gray shade character only a kind fluffy guy, Peter is polarised to the bad one....

Ron similarly is often given the last place if how much of a good friend each person in golden trio was to be questioned. And that is a tragedy in itself because atleast for Ron we have so much material...

Infact for me, Ron will always be a person who has bigger heart than jkr's favorite mary sue-Lily Evans. She did what any good mother should do. But fandom never stops going on and on about it Or even Harry's sacrifice at the end is so much singed about...but then we have Ron, an 11 year kid who for the sake of defeating voldy, told his new Friends to leave him. He sacrificed himself at 11. Everyone was sure that he is risking his life...but no one i see ever gushes about that act of bravery. It is always about one Potter Or the other.

Peter too. I mean he won't have been friends with the other three for 10 years if they just tolerated him and vice versa. But making him evil kr stupid kr dumb Or hideous to look at in his childhood or teen years is like taking all his personality away and giving us just a shell of a person...

He did become animagi at 15 and that is quite a commendable magic. He is cunning to pull up his stunt as a spy....

Like war as sirius describes in gof is so dark and scary. And people forgot that big things make a person change.

Ron on the other hand had done quite a lot in his life time but often he is found to be judged for leaving his friends.

I believe that the only difference between them is that ron recognised his faults and made correction. Meanwhile pettigrew simply kept on walking on the wrong path he chose....

i don't think this entirely works. ron gets cast by the fandom as a gluttonous moron who's also a bad friend primarily on account of the films - and as a bad person by people who want to ship hermione with other people but don't have the nerve to do this in a complex or interesting way - but the text never suggests that either harry or hermione think of him as being in last place in the trio.

indeed, when harry does think of himself as better than ron - when ron gets made a prefect over him in order of the phoenix - he feels horrible for his brief flash of jealousy and soon gets over it. on other occasions when he notes something about himself which could be seen as superior to ron - when he notes that ron got no outstandings at owl, for example - harry doesn't actually force a comparison which is designed to position ron below him. they end up doing the same newts, which is what harry - who sees ron as his partner in crime - cares about.

ron is also demonstrably harry's best friend, and harry tends to enable him and automatically side with him in conflict - it's an example of great self-growth that he doesn't cut hermione off in half-blood prince when ron does, since he's perfectly happy to do so in prisoner of azkaban. but he's also demonstrably hermione's best friend too. harry's relationship with her is, as he says, sibling-like, which doesn't just mean that it's not romantic, but that it contains a "you can't choose your family" vibe - he loves her fiercely, but he also finds her exasperating in a way ron doesn't, doesn't make any real effort to learn about her interests or include her in his, and is often quite harsh to her. ron - in contrast - does see his relationship with her as one of active choice.

this is why i never really like the idea that the trio and the marauders are meant to be parallels. on the surface, ron and harry should be the equivalent of james and sirius and hermione should be remus...

but they're not, because the clear dynamic of the marauders in canon is that they were a group centred around james. all three of sirius, remus, and peter clearly understood james as their best friend, and their relationships among themselves primarily depend on their understanding of their and the others' relationship to james. there is - i think - a credible case to be made that, if james was removed from the picture entirely, but not in a way that caused the profound trauma of the canon timeline [if he just moved away with lily, for example], the remaining three would drift apart.

james - of course - only understood sirius as his equal, his brother. peter is obviously someone he considered inferior to the two of them - albeit in a fond way, rather than a cruel one. he clearly thinks of him the way a teenager might think of their pre-teen sibling - someone you love and are happy to include in your social life if they do what you want, someone you also don't want to embarrass you in front of your cool teenage friends by letting them do what they want instead of following your instructions. remus is clearly someone he didn't think of as quite so socially inferior to him, but he also still seems to have understood him as peripheral to his and sirius' rampant codependence.

the trio doesn't have anything like this dynamic. even though harry is narratively unequal to ron and hermione - he is their leader, they are his disciples - the relationships across the three of them [harry's active choice to be friends with ron, harry's feeling that hermione is his sister; ron's active choice to be friends with hermione, his pseudo-familial relationship with harry] are much more equal than those among the marauders.

what i have been convinced by, however, is @whinlatter's belief that the best parallel for peter in the series is ginny:

"I had left you" and "I forgave you" being right next to each other is SO PERFECT because that part is referencing the cave obviously and immediately after centross dies icarus is like 'get the fuck away from me why did you do that, holy shit you were gonna kill me' and then he tells them he can bring centross back and they immediately forgive him (and its not rlly great editing wise cause obviously theres not much contrast between the clips but the sacrifices we make are very small)

"I forgot you" this line is kinda hard to understand how ive coded it cause centross is on the screen so it kinda makes it seems like im saying they forgot centross but NO! they forgot about fable, they were so focused on bringing centross back that they completely lost sight of fable and his actions and how that hurt everyone around them

then the "said you loved me" I LOVE PUTTING VOICELINES IN EDITS CHAT. I LOVE IT SO MUCH AHHHH. i love when the words and they go together and theyre similar and i go crazy . im knawing at the bars of my enclosure

the text is all shaky, the way ive always imagined this part of the song in my brain is like full mental breakdown, hands pulling at hair hitting at your head . theres something inside of you and you want it OUT and you will hurt yourself to makes that happen . so thats kind of the vibe i wanted to portray, however . im not that skilled and capcut only has so many free text effects so . we make do. i also couldn't put that effect on all the text because for it to look right i couldn't use an 'in' animation for the text so having all of it just appear looked kind of weird so i had to comprimise a little

also the font is called "honest" which . if you know me i love putting subliminal messaging in my font usage when i can which i managed to do a couple times in this edit actually. the font is very jagged which fits for the idea of someone who's reaching their breaking point and all the rotation and bold and italics are all just thrown around there. making em all look interesting . for *flavour*

the other font that's got a cool title and this one i actually only picked because of the title and that's "innocent" its used in a lot of frames like "you possessed me", "you controlled me" and "or he'll hurt me" all times, the word 'me' uses the innocent font, because with the song it sounds like icarus is trying to remove any of the blame from themself, it was fable's fault because he manipulated me i didn't do anything wrong. so they see themself as 'innocent' which is also why that text is yellow cause its about icarus. i wouldn't have used that font if not for the title icl. but it also makes the times when that font isn't used all the more interesting, this can be seen most notably in "said you'd kill me", and both of the times in the "he's still speaking, speaking for me" parts , and i will let you cook on that cause not everything needs to be explained in great detail as much as id like to do that

most of the fonts at this one were just me throwing shit at a wall and seeing what fit the vibe ill be so fr, i knew i wanted a lot of variation cause its a chaotic sounding song and the colours also have very little thought when it comes to the difference between white/yellow/red for the most part . green is for fable and purple is just whatever the fuck i felt like .

final thing i'm going to say when it goes "i'm a [worthless human being" there is no text on that part and i just want it to be known on the record that it wasn't an accident and it was an aethetic choice and i can't come up with a bullshit important reason for why there's no text on the screen for that SINGLE PART and honestly it just looked so shit with text there but it also looks so out of place with it being the only part but im sure many of you didn't even notice there wasnt text there before i pointed it out so . i can also point out all the slightly off timings for you if you wanna see my creation through my critical self-loathing eyes /silly

The war ends like two days after the November Revolution starts--I think Baden is appointed head of the government on the 9th, and the armistics occurs on the 11th. There's no question of continuing the fighting--indeed, one aim the military is trying to secure is getting the civilian government to end the war, so they aren't blamed for it (despite their situation being unwinnable).

Circumstances helped a lot--and the SPD and Ebert in particular are much better at navigating the situation than anybody between February and October 1917 in Russia. It helps that the SPD is a big-tent party with a ton of support, in a more developed multiparty political system. These are the same properties that made then feckless when opposing the war, but left them in a position to take up the reins of government in 1918.

Ebert's government is good at quickly announcing a slate of popular social and political reforms, delivering on their socialist credentials; it helps that the workers' and soldiers' councils that do form are more ideologically in line with the SPD than they are with the Bolsheviks, and support the government's call for a national assembly slash constitutional convention. Unlike in Russia, this assembly is not delayed by war or anything else.

When the USDP and Spartacists/KPD break decisively with the SPD, they are kind of muddled in their aims and divided between each other, and the Spartacist Uprising breaks out basically by accident, but fails to attract much mass support. Ebert is able to use the Freikorps to suppress the uprising. More July Days than October Revolution--and Liebknecht and Luxemburg are captured by the Freikorps and murdered, which means there's no regrouping and reconsolidation for an equivalent later push.

As with the Russian Revolution, very small differences in both individual actions and general circumstances might have produced wildly different results--anything from right-wing military dictatorship to full-blown communist revolution. Still, it's hard to see the Weimar Republic as the optimal outcome, given how that's going to turn out.

hello why is kaishin more popular than shinkai or what i mean is why bottom shinichi is like the most widely believed one? lol not really in the fandom just vaguely familiar with the anime from childhood it's just my mutuals likes this ship. i'd thought shinichi being the top would be more popular given his personality.

imma be real honest with you, anon, i've loved the kidco dynamic since i was conan-sized but i only realized kaishin should be making out around 2021 so i don't know if i'm the best person to answer this question LOL BUT, i'll give you an answer!

tbh, i think for fandom shipping in general, the main character more often than not is the chosen bottom and whoever else is the other party is topping them. in japanese media especially, the ship names are mostly born from putting the kanji of their names together wherein the order of which indicates the seme and uke. since this happens early on, we kinda get stuck with that as the popular ship name whether you prefer the other way later on.

perhaps kaishin is more popular but not entirely by a lot compared to other ships where it's completely skewed to one side. i see a lot of shinkai too. ofc there are people who prefer one way over the other exclusively and that's completely fine!

personally, i think confining them into seme and uke or top and bottom does a great disservice to the kaishin dynamic because to me we should be looking at their sub-dom dynamic more and why they're actually peak switch sub and dom!!!!

i think the appeal of kaishin is the push and pull between them. the give and take. they're always trying to one-up each other. sometimes one pushes and the other gives way, sometimes it's the other way around.

i will be honest, perhaps switch pairings might just be my preference but I have never encountered a pairing that felt this completely equal in the switch department more than kaishin. like for other ships i'd sometimes be like, "yeah they switch but A is 70% more dom than B." But for kaishin I'm like, "oKAY THEY'RE 50/50 THEY'RE EQUALS THEY'RE PERFECT HALVES RAAAAAHHHH"

now how does this answer your question? well, i have no proof and im going off of vibes and like i said im no veteran in this ship fandom but, i think a lot of people do enjoy the other way around as you think it would've been. it's just that...it's something that can just be filed under the kaishin tag too. because it's basically the same sometimes. the only different thing is who's topping and bottoming. like sometimes i'm scrolling through twitter and i'd see art that's giving shinkai but it's tagged as kaishin and vice versa lol.

also personally i prefer calling them kaishin because i love the letter k and i associate the name shinkai more with makoto shinkai so every time i see people refer to kaishin as shinkai, my mind just conjures up an image of kaito, shinichi, and makoto shinkai together and i know that's fucking hilariously weird but it sometimes happens!!!! LMAO so even if i'm thinking about shinkai stuff, i still prefer using the name kaishin lol.

(but having the kaishin/shinkai distinction is definitely still useful especially for people who want to filter through one way or the other so fuck yeah to the ship name shinkai you're here to stay!!!)

anyway in conclusion, top shinichi is popular too dw lol, or maybe i should say bottom kaito is popular too lol i see yalls

Realized you might be a good person to ask for input about these two guys from a show I like (if it's not too much trouble). It's a western show but these characters are Japanese and they're both friends and coworkers. One is the boss's son and has a somewhat more "childish" personality, and typically addresses his friend with the "-kun" honorific, while his friend doesn't use honorifics for the first guy. What if anything would you say this indicates about their friendship?

oh hm!!! I mean, I can't really say much without knowing the characters myself. I should probably give the caveat that I don't speak Japanese lol I just hyperfixated on honorifics for a bit because that's just how my brain works. I'd say the one using "-kun" is using it with some affection! "-kun" is used between boys/young men who are similar ages, and also used by adults for boys/men younger than them. It could potentially be used in a rude way depending on the dynamic, but I'm assuming these two characters are the same age, and since you said he's got a kind of childish personality, it seems to me that he's probably using it in a friendly way, like "we're buddies!! we're bros!!"

as for the other character, I guess it would really depend on how he's using his name and how he refers to other people! It's a lot harder to draw conclusions on the absence of something since I don't know the character and context lol just based on the vibes you've given from this ask, I'd assume his lack of honorifics is just. neutral? it's not rude but it's not overly familiar but it's not particularly respectful either. it's just his name!
