I'll use Bandit because it's more interesting (in my opinion), but like.

When I was in middle school, I was obsessed - literally obsessed - with my band director. Like. Anyone who knew me probably knew this thing about me. There was a whole thing in seventh grade about how she sent me to the counselor and I considered that the biggest anime betrayal of all time so I started wearing fingerless gloves until I thought she trusted me or whatever—

Middle school is a weird time, man.

Anyway.

I was absolutely going to be in marching band in high school, but our school split so that I wasn't going to be going to the high school my band director helped at. And, of course, people who helped out in band were band aids.

And my bestie, on our middle school graduation, told me I was Bandit. Because of marching band and everything.

Now, this was middle school, and I was super into Neopets at the time, and a lot of people from my church had Xanga, but you don't give out your real name on the internet, so I called myself Bandit, the Eleventh Awanakid, Queen of the Band-Aids.

A summer later, when I took an intensive Italian summer camp class and we had to introduce ourselves, I introduced myself as Bandita Dieci (we all had numbers, and I was ten, and I was absolutely not Bandito). The next summer when I went back, I put on my application form that I was Bandita.

When I went to that college for college, I introduced myself as Bandita. (One of my friends died later that year. He only ever called me Bandita.)

When I made the jump to Tumblr, Bandit came with me, only I didn't want something as definitively gendered as Bandita. I wanted to be Bandit.

So I'm Bandit.

...specifically Bandit Tennison because it retains the reference to Ten and Dieci.

it's december again folks💆which makes it the time of year where I drop in to say I'm Sorry and I Didn't Think It Would Take This Long - I was kind of hoping to finish it up this month, but then I added some stuff, and I found some stuff I coded like if a rabid dog found a laptop in the trash, so that needs fixing; the usual stuff.

november was a pretty productive month for me, but I've been blindsided this week with a bout of illness and some family stuff, so progress has ground to a halt, and december's never very productive; as such I'm hoping I'll get it out sometime in January. as always, i really really appreciate your patience - I hope you'll continue to bear with me, and I do hope when it comes, you'll enjoy the update!

you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.

Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.

even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.

if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.

so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.
