Books have always been a safe place for me. I still remember picking up The Hobbit when I was still a kid, closing my bedroom door and going on an adventure. I'm almost 25 now and I still love going on adventures. From magic schools to institutes, hidden cities to castles, forests to enormous capitals. With cars and ships and horses and broomsticks and dragons. Every story, a new adventure. Every book, a new journey. Oh, how I love travelling!
I only ever had one friend who loves reading as much as I do and our conversations about books, the hours we spend making theories, and analysing everything that happened... they are some of my most beloved moments. ( @strovilos , you are the joy of my life) My other friends don't understand as much, it's okay. I' ve always been the kid hiding books under my desk, staying up past my bedtime with a light under the covers. So yeah... that dedication really got me.
I was invited to places, but I almost never felt included while being there. That was okay too.
I always preferred riding dragons anyway.

All in all, I really enjoyed this. I never got bored and I didn't mind the side missions at all.
The xaden×violet of it all shattered my heart. I definitely loved their relationship more than the previous books (It really reminded me of their dynamic from one of the best pieces of literature I've ever had the pleasure to read, a fanfiction piece called Storm in the quiet by @justallihere. She is truly the best.).
I just knew this was coming, and all of their trying would lead to this... it tore my heart apart. I love heavy angst in my books, but it hurts like a motherfucker when you have to wait for the next book in a series. I've promised myself I would never start an unfinished series ever again but oh well....
I loved the side characters so much, and I feel like I got to see them more and get to know them better in this one.
Ridoc is the best comic relief character I've read in a long, long time, and I love him so much (I almost had a heart attack when I thought the cook actually stabbed him.)
Aaric is a little shit and I'm so here for it. His exceptionally well written character was one of the highlights of the book for me.
Imogen and Garrick are my babies and I want them to end up together SO FUCKING BAD.
Also, the Drake and Mira crumbs? Chef's kiss.
I have to admit I was very fed shipping wise.
Unexpectedly, I also laughed my ass off in this book... so I'll probably make another post with all the times I died of laughter. Who would have thought?
My soul will definitely need mending and a good dose of fanfiction to get me through the long wait. To the people who are gifted enough to write these fanfcitions, you are my heroes. Cheers!

You let out a content sigh. Even before you opened your eyes you knew the warm presence at your side was Tara. It had been too long since you woke up to her snuggled into your side like that. Tara grumbled something incoherent when began gently running your fingers up and down her arm.
Your laughter seemed to stir Tara though because she cracked an open eye to glare at you. “It’s too early,” she mumbled, burying her face in your neck.
“It’s hardly early,” you chuckled.
“How long were we asleep?” she lifted her head to rest her chin on your chest.
“Long enough for the others to show up.” You could hear the faint sound of the TV. Sam sometimes had the TV on, but you were willing to bet the others were done with classes and had come on over for the night.
Tara let out a groan but rolled out of bed. She held out her hand to you which you happily took. The two of you made your way into the living room to see Mindy and Anika were in fact lounging on the couch watching a movie.
“Finally,” Mindy groaned. “We’ve been here forever!” you glanced at the clock under the TV to see it had only been about three hours since you had last seen them at the campus.
“Special delivery!” Chad greeted as she entered the apartment with a large pizza.
“Thanks,” Sam said, setting plates and cups on the dining table.
You dropped down into a spot on the couch as the others gathered around the table to grab some pizza. A plate of pizza was held in front of your face, and you looked up to see Anika holding it out for you. “Thanks,” you said, smiling up at her.
“Of course,” she said, plopping down next to you.
You glanced at the table to see the others seated around it. Tara met your gaze, but you gave her a reassuring smile, knowing she’d switch seats to come sit by you if you wanted.
“Are you okay?” Anika asked.
“Yeah,” you said. When you glanced to the side you noticed how her eyes were focused on the bandage wrapped around your arm. “I’ve had worse.
“That doesn’t mean I don’t worry.”
You chuckled and nodded. “I appreciate it but this,” you held up your hand. “It’s just a scratch.”
Anika nodded though she didn’t seem too happy about you dismissing your injury. It seemed ridiculous to be worried about a cut on your arm when you’d suffered worse. You had watched Ghostface kill people, you saw the horrors he could inflict on one, so him slicing up your arm really was nothing in comparison to all he could have done.
“I knew it!” Tara shouted, making you and Anika both look at the four friends.
You weren’t sure what they were talking about as Tara snatched Sam’s phone and began pretending to talk to someone. You smiled as Sam tried to steal her phone back and Chad and Mindy laughed and egged Tara on.
You pulled out your phone when you felt it vibrate, at the same time Anika did the same, and there were a couple dings coming from where the others were. You furrowed your brow at a message from an unknown number. You heard someone suck in a breath and when you opened the message you knew why, it was several pictures of Quinn being attacked by Ghostface.
One could hear a pin drop with the change in tone. If you hadn’t been sitting right there with everyone you never would have known, the apartment had just been filled with laughter mere seconds again. Everyone’s eyes snapped from the picture on their phones to Quinn’s door.
You could feel your heart thumping in your chest. Your mind kept telling you to grab and Tara and go. You weren’t sure how Ghostface could have gotten in the apartment without any of you knowing but you didn’t think waiting around to find out if he was still actually there was smart.
It was probably only seconds after the picture was taken that the apartment was filled with Quinn’s screams. Everyone shot to their feet at the same time, somehow all of you moving to the center of the room at once. The banging around and struggle of Quinn fighting Ghostface got louder. You could probably fling open the door, surprise Ghostface, catch him off guard, and potentially save Quinn in the process. You didn’t do any of that though, instead you stepped in front to Tara, making sure of Ghostface came out of that room he’d have to go through you before you ever getting to Tara.
“Run,” Mindy whispered.
As if Ghostface knew of the plan he burst out of the door, tossing Quinn’s body at Mindy and quickly sinking his knife into Anika’s gut. Mindy reacted first, shoving Ghostface off her girlfriend only for Ghostface to swipe his knife across her arm.
“Go!” You shouted, pushing Tara towards the door.
Ghostface yanked Anika up by the hair, her flailing around didn’t seem to faze the man as he dragged her across the room. You threw your body at Ghostface, forcing him to release his hold on Anika and slam him into a brick wall.
You risked glancing back to see Tara being pulled out of the apartment by Chad. You didn’t have time to be relieved though as Ghostface whipped around, slashing his knife at you. He slammed his body into the door, effectively closing it, locking Chad and Tara safely on the outside but the rest of your inside with him. You just barely dodged the hit, stumbling over one of the end tables in the process. Tripping ended up being the thing that saved you, Ghostface’s knife slicing through your shirt instead of your skin.
Your eyes widened as Ghostface stood tall, looming over you like some sort of bringer of death. Before your life had time to flash before your eyes a wooden block smashed into the side of Ghostface’s head, sending him to the ground. Your eyes widened at as Sam threw the wood block, making sure to aim for Ghostface’s head again.
“Move!” Sam ordered, not waiting for you to gather yourself before yanking you up to your feet. “Go!” She shoved your back, forcing you in the direction Mindy and Anika as they held each other, stumbling into Quinn’s room.
Sam slammed the door shut and began moving a dresser in front of the door as soon as all four of you were in the room. You scanned the room, looking for anything that could be used as a weapon when your eye caught something outside of the window. “Sam!” you called out and pointed at the window. Sam furrowed her brow as Dann stuck half his body out the window, waving his hands around like a maniac to get her attention.
“The other door,” Mindy whisper yelled.
Your eyes widened. You couldn’t believe you forgot your and Tara’s room was connected to Quinn’s through the bathroom, you and Tara had both walked in on Quinn and one her hookups one to many times because they consistently forgot to lock the other door. You spun on your heel and took off through the bathroom, only slowing down when you caught sight of a body in the bathtub.
Your hand had just grazed the doorknob when Ghostface stabbed his knife into the doorway. As Ghostface ripped the knife out of the wood you ducked, diving under his arm before he had the chance to swing at you again.
You heard one of the girls call your name, but your full attention was on Ghostface standing in front of you. He was the only thing blocking your path but if you kept him occupied long enough there was a chance the others could find a way out.
Ghostface flexed his hand, his fingers twisting around the knife in his grip. Your own fingers twitched at your side; you still didn’t have a weapon, so you just needed to be quicker.
When Ghostface lunged, you dove onto the bed, rolling onto the other side in one seamless motion. Despite the complete violation of being attacked in your own home, again, you had to say being in familiar territory was nicer than the bodega. This time when you dove behind things at least there was a soft bed for you to break the fall and not just the hard tiled floor.
Your hand shot under the bed, instantly finding the handle of the black briefcase like box you kept there. You rounded the bed, bringing up the case to block Ghostface’s knife. The metal of the knife scraped against the plastic, leaving a white scratch but otherwise the case was undamaged.
Ghostface stepped back, tilting his head as he eyed the case. You could picture a confused face behind the mask, but the confusion didn’t seem to hold Ghostface back. His hand shot out, aiming to stab you in the gut but you quickly brought the case down, deflecting the attack.
You gripped the handle of the case tight in your hand and whipped your hand fast, smacking the case into the side of Ghostface’s head with as much strength as you could. It seemed to be enough to send Ghostface practically crashing into the wall. You didn’t waste the moment as you bolted back into the bathroom, making sure the slammed the door closed behind you.
You entered Quinn’s room, slamming that door closed as well. You furrowed your brow at the sight of a ladder resting on the windowsill. “You got to be fucking kidding me?” you shouted.
Sam had part of her body out the window when she whipped around at the sound of your voice. You couldn’t help but notice the way her shoulders visibly relaxed at seeing you. “Hurry up!” is all she said before she continued out the window.
You didn’t have time to comment how insane this was before you heard the crack of wood behind you. You spin around to see a knife-shaped hole in the door. Your eyes widened and you grabbed a dresser and began shoving int front of the door. You had no idea what the hell Quinn kept in the dresser, but it didn’t start actually moving until Mindy rushed over, helping you shove it into place.
“Okay!” you could hear Sam shout from Danny’s apartment across the way. “Who’s next!”
You pressed your back against the dresser, planting your feet firmly so they didn’t slide as Ghostface slammed into the door. “Go!” you nodded at Mindy. Mindy looked at you, you could see the slight hesitation in her eyes. “Go!” you groaned as your foot slid, your knee nearly buckling from the pressure you were forcing it to take.
“Go,” you said again through gritted teeth.
Mindy finally decided to listen and left your side. You pushed back against the dresser, you couldn’t let Ghostface think he was getting any sort of leverage. You tried to focus on not moving and not the way Mindy and Anika were arguing about who would go first. Eventually it seemed Anika won the argument because Mindy was crawling out the window next.
All you had to do was continue to keep Ghostface out of the room, wait for Anika to get across, then run across the room and get out the window and across the ladder before Ghostface could get you. You closed your eyes, you were really glad Tara had made it out of the apartment before all this, you didn’t think you could handle seeing her crawl across the ladder from this high up.
“Anika, you’re next!” you heard Mindy call out.
Anika was a sobbing mess as she shook her head. “You go,” she said, looking at you.
“No,” you said with a shake of your head. “Just hurry up.”
Anika shook her head and sobbed even harder. “I-I-can’t.”
“Everything will be fine.” You groaned as Ghostface gave a particular hard shove against the door. “Mindy is there waiting for you.” Anika looked back out across the window as if to see for herself. “Anika, go!”
“I-I-I-” she was as sobbing mess.
“Anika, go out the fucking window!” you snapped.
Anika jumped at your tone, but it seemed to do the trick. She was hesitant with each movement, but with shaky hands she eventually crawled out the window and onto the ladder. You had never snapped at Anika before, you didn’t take that tone with many people, but you really didn’t have time to worry about someone else’s feelings at the moment. You figured if both of you survived this attack you could apologize after but waiting around for Ghostface to get the upper hand, which was only a matter of time, wouldn’t do anyone any good.
Your foot finally slid after what felt like Ghostface body slamming into the door. You collapsed to the floor; the case that had been holding onto like your life depending on it slid under Quinn’s bed. You turned your head just as a black cloak rushed past you. You pushed yourself to your feet and charged at Ghostface just as he got to the window. You caught glimpses of Mindy, Sam, and Danny at the other side as they tried to get Anika to keep making her way across the ladder.
Ghostface elbowed you in the side, forcing you to lose your grip. He swung his knife around just as you turned your body, the blade just missing you. Ghostface gave a swift kick to your bad knee, sending you crumbling to the floor.
Pain shot up and down your leg as you gripped your knee. You gritted your teeth, trying to hold in your screams. Through blurry vision you saw Ghostface standing at the window again, stabbing his knife into the windowsill before reaching out to grab the ladder.
You mindlessly slapped around, searching for anything you could throw at Ghostface. You paused when your hand smacked something hard, you slowed your movement feeling the familiar plastic. It seemed your case had slid under the bed and all the way to the other side. With one hand you undid the clips and flipped open the case, your eyes never leaving Ghostface as you felt around the case until your fingers brushed over the cool metal.
You gripped the weapon tightly and didn’t hesitate to whip it out. You fired three shots at Ghostface’s head. Ghostface dove out of the way, each of your shots barely missing him. You tracked his movements with the gun, continuing to fire at him as he ripped open the door and took off.
You pulled yourself to your feet, keeping a firm grip on the gun in your hand as you slowly made your way across the room. You peeked out the window just as Mindy and Sam were pulling Anika to safety on the other side. You kept your gun raised as you inched your way out of the room, powering through the pain shooting through your knee with each movement.
You kept your ears alert for the slightest sound of movement. You slowly made your way through the apartment, making sure to check each room and the hallway before entering. You weren’t an expert, but you knew it was completely like Ghostface to attack then hide in a closet or something to try surprise attacking his victims again.
When you got to the living room you saw the front door was flung open, implying that when Ghostface ran he took off completely. You inched closer to the door and peeked out into the hall, seeing no signs of Ghostface. You let out a sigh of relief and your shoulders instantly relaxed. You kept the gun in one hand just in case as you gripped the railing with the other, you could already hear the sirens coming and you figured taking the stairs was better than the ladder out the window. You didn’t keep track of how long it took you to make it down the stairs, much longer than your average time you figured. As soon as you stepped out of the building though you nearly fell again when something slammed into you. Your arm not holding the gun instantly wrapped around, you’d know Tara’s embrace anywhere and you just wanted to pull her closer.

Rating all the poses on the new hermitcraft banner


Bdoubleo100: 6/10 pretty average, covered up by the person on the end but he's just reaching his arm out. Not too special but decent.

Xizuma: 8/10 "yippee" energy but not 😁 yippee, more chill than that, basically he just looks like he's cheering for something. I like it.

xBCrafted: 7/10 only criticism is why are him and Doc holding that thing like that? It makes it very hard for xb to use his other hand.

DocM77: 7/10 pretty much the same as xb, still a bit selfish of him to be trapping xbs arm like that.

Welsknight: 8/10 looks like he's dancing but very chill. We can't all be busting out the big guns and grooving the night away. Nice work.

TangoTek: 7/10 I like it, he looks happy and eager, however thats also the exact pose people made when I was in school and people were trying to fight each other. I do not think tango is trying to fight anyone.

VintageBeef: 9/10 looks like he's trying to dance. I like it. Keep it up, beef ✌️🙂

Shadow and Void _ Part 2: Memory and Deal
[Yandere!Sung Jinwoo x Enemy Monarch!Reader]

Before Jinwoo woke up from his encounter with the Architect, Ashborn showed him something else or told him something else other than the war Ashborn was in. There were moments where it was showed Ashborn with someone.
Ashborn was in a world void of war and violence, serenity and calmness as far as the eye could see. The ruler of such a place was a misty figure that barely reached Ashborn’s chest. The misty figure would reach out a hand to Ashborn and drag him around, showing him all sorts of stuff like a child, it almost resembles Earth’s nature.
The misty figure seemed ignorant of what Ashborn is and floated around like a ghost. If it wasn’t for the fact that this misty figure didn’t share any trait of an extracted Shadow, Jinwoo would be thought this figure was one of them.
“Monarch of Void. You can’t keep me here forever.” Ashborn spoke in the softest tone possible.
“How many times do I have to tell you to call be ‘ ’? Aren’t we close enough for that?” The misty figure spoke, the voice all echoy and mythical as if everywhere and nowhere at the same time. “And for your information, I can keep you here forever. No one can enter my domain without my permission.”
“We aren’t close enough that you’d put me over your own safety nor I yours.” Ashborn sighed. “And the war is ongoing. Blank.”
The misty figure seemed to pout, how Jinwoo figured that he has no idea, “Now calling me that is just…. Whatever….” The figure turned away without a care, “So what if the war is ongoing, just let them fight to their heart’s content and we can take whatever’s left.”
Ashborn got up from his seat and headed to a direction, “I will not stand idly by.”
“You can’t leave! I forbid it!” The figure’s shout made the King of the Dead stop in his path. “If you leave… You’ll regret it! It’s all over!”
“What aren’t you telling me, King of Mist?”
The misty figure held back, staying silent.
“You know you can’t always stay like this, yes?” Ashborn questioned, he continued without looking back. “You’re strong but you choose to hide it and lend others your strength. You know to side with the strong and aid them in return for security and safety. But what if, one day, you found someone to side with no matter their strength? And your former clients come back to bite?”
You stayed silent but muttered, “There won’t be a day. I will always prioritize myself and my survivability.”
Ashborn chuckled, “You say that now, but you never know the future. We, Monarchs and Rulers, have been here since the beginning. There can always be change. Monarch of Void.”
“...”
“There will be a time where you have to pick a side and I mean your priority won’t be just yourself.” Ashborn spoke in a lecturing manner. “Remember well, if they can’t have what they want, they would rather no one else has it.”
With a wave of a hand, a vortex opened before Ashborn. “I’ll… Keep it in mind…” The figure’s voice seemed to have cracked, “You may leave… King of the Dead.”
Then the memory played back to the war and Ashborn’s betrayal. The words of that misty figure rang in Jinwoo’s mind the moment he in Ashborn’s form was impaled. Jinwoo deduced, that misty figure already knew about the betrayal and tried to keep Ashborn from getting hurt but it wasn’t enough. That mysterious figure was the Monarch of Void and King of Mist, a master of spatial magic.
“You’re the King of Mist, Blank, aren’t you?” Jinwoo questioned.
“You have no right to call me that…” You hummed, “Not unless you’re Ashborn. Which you don’t appear to be.” Your eyes glowed when you stared at him, “You have a great Shadow Army and great abilities, but you’re not Ashborn. Vessel.”
Jinwoo crossed his arms, this was a bad spot to begin with. It was obvious you held nothing but annoyance towards him and maybe impatience since you kept calling him ‘Vessel’ or ask when Ashborn was going to appear. Meanwhile, he didn’t like you too, you are a Monarch and the cause of Chairman Go’s death. The barrier around his office was your work and you were there when Gunhee died, he even protected you, for some unknown reason.
He prevented you from leaving through whatever gate that Monarch of Frost left through and thus you were pinned to the wall. Yet, if memory serves correctly, you have a misty form that could escape anytime. The question was why didn’t or haven’t you retaliate even when you were in pain?
“I’ll give you protection.” Jinwoo tried to bargain as he recalled what little information the memory flashback from the Double Dungeon gave him. “In exchange, you stay by my side.”
Your eyes blinked twice and glanced over to the daggers impaled into your vessel’s flesh. You have taken over this body completely so you do feel pain and the blood lost will be fatal. “Whatever you’re doing now is contradicting your words, Ashborn’s vessel.”
His eye twitched at the name, “Call me Jinwoo. Or Hunter Sung, even.” He thought for a second if he should let you go, but if you wanted to escape, you would have. So he summoned back his daggers and made them disappear. He took out a healing potion from his System’s store and handed it to you. “Now will you believe me and agree to my terms?”
Hesitantly, you took the potion and inspected it before drinking it down in one gulp. Within seconds of its consumption, you felt refreshed and energized that you let out a hummed moan. You exhaled and relaxed yourself, it was a familiar feeling. Perhaps it was because Jinwoo was Ashborn’s vessel that’s why you could be this way with him. “Logically speaking, I should be your enemy, wouldn’t it be… Beneficial for you to cut down the numbers?”
“You’re knowledgeable of what I want and need to know, so it’s better for me to keep you by my side.” Jinwoo answered easily, it was the perfect cover story until he could sort out his thoughts regarding you. “And I know you can make your targets more powerful.” Ever since his eyes first laid on your misty form in Ashborn/his memories, he wanted to keep you by his side. “I saw Ashborn’s memories.”
Jinwoo noticed the visible flinch and frozen state of your form when he told you that information. You appeared puzzled, your eyebrows furrowed together and your eyes looked down in deep thought, even your lips were pressed together. “There’s no way Ashborn would… He was serious? A successor…? Not a vessel?”
He couldn’t understand the phases you’d mumble from time to time. What he does know was that you were too fixiated with Ashborn. While he was grateful for this otherworldly being for giving him all this power and the opportunity to meet you, he didn’t like how you were this concerned with Ashborn when he was in front of you.
Jinwoo flinched as he turned around, his expression that of confusion. Why was he having such thoughts? What’s it matter what you were concerned with so long as you’d be making him stronger and giving him more power to protect his loved ones? Plus the protection he offered you, was it because it was a leverage for you to stay simply because you’d be targetted by the other Monarchs? Or was there more to his own words?
“Fine, I’ll take your offer.” Your words snapped Jinwoo out of his thoughts. You waited until Jinwoo turned around and composed himself for whatever reason you didn’t care for. As long as you’re next to this Jinwoo, Ashborn’s vessel and maybe successor, you have a chance of atoning for what you did to Ashborn. Perhaps a chance to see Ashborn even for a while.
“Great. Cool.” Jinwoo nodded. He controlled the urge to smile or raffling your hair that looked misty and soft. Instead, he rubbed the back of his neck, “So, do you have a place to stay, or do you stay in some dimensional crack?”
“I have an apartment. There’s no need to worry.”
There goes his idea to have you close monitor you in close range. There was another idea… “I’ll send some Shadows on you. I can’t have you warning the other Monarchs or betraying me.”
You eyed as some Shadows moved from Jinwoo’s into yours, feeling the added weight on your form and the chills. It was a familiar feelings. Jinwoo does remind you of Ashborn but different. “Betrayal would suggest that we are close, friends even, in your human terms. So I believe the phase ‘stabbing you in the back’ would be more fitting.”
Jinwoo shrugged while internally fuming, “The idea is not to have you be a disadvantage to me or cause one.” His eyes glowed and bloodlust was released, “That understood?”
As hard as it was, you stood your ground. You laughed at yourself mentally. An enemy is still an enemy. This human was picked by Ashborn himself, so you shouldn’t have underestimate him. Even more so when he is going to be the successor instead of a mere vessel. Shamefully, you bowed your head in the form of a bow of submission. “Understood.”
Note: I've decided to continue this and turn it into a series. There's more parts to come and it will be heavy manhwa focus, plus some scenes and events will be moved around. Do join me on this journey!

The Pirate King of the North: Part 11
With Initial Concepts of Sanji's Skypiea Outfit

Law asked to play judge in the first round so he can properly gauge what he's up against. Sanji gladly entertained this to keep him interested and took the step forward to make the first move of their little game.
He positions himself ten metres away from a nearby tree that's angled over the edge of the riverbank. After warming up a couple of times by jumping on the spot, he runs up to it, extends the claws of his gauntlet then begins to use all fours to gradually increase his speed as he clambered up, twisting around the trunk several times, defying gravity, before leaping off the very top–his movements barely seen but the trail of stripped leaves and bark that he leaves behind. Mid-air, he does a series of impressive twirls and flips before landing flawlessly with a roll on the other side of the river. Standing upright, he takes a small bow then raises a hand to gesture over Zoro to take his turn in a challenging way.
Law claps slowly. The sound echoes across. He's not looking too impressed.
The swordsman cups a hand over his mouth and shouts.
Zoro
BOO! SEEN IT!
Sanji
ACK–! I was trying to show Law an example of what we can do!
Law
It's pretty standard even for you.
I'll give you basic points for ordinary.
Sanji gasps sharply. He throws a hand over his cheek like he'd just been slapped in the face, feeling offended.
Sanji
B–BASIC?!
Let's see you do better then, moss for brains!
“Standard”.... “Ordinary”....
The blonde grumbles the last couple of words grumpily as he kicks pebbles and sticks on the ground.
Zoro smirks at his reaction then calmly approaches a different tree. This one, unsurprisingly, has long vines dangling over it. He begins to climb it without a rush.
Law
Oh, here we go….
Sanji
What's with him and swinging…?
When the swordsman reaches the topmost branch that he can stand on, he reaches for a thick vine hanging in front of him and gives it a couple of strong tugs to test its durability. Confident it can take his weight, he clears his throat and grips the vine with both hands.
Sanji and Law both look at the swordsman in anticipation, expecting that he'll do something extraordinary given that the man had wanted to swing since the moment they arrived on the island.
After a pregnant pause, Zoro leaps off the branch, bellowing out loud booming noises projected from the back of his throat. There was nothing fancy in his swing. It was all just long guttural singing that echoed through the jungle. When he finally lets go and lands in front of Sanji, he looks absolutely pleased with himself, placing his hands on his hips.
Sanji
That's… that's it?
Zoro
Told ya it was good.
Sanji
After all that, that's all you got?
Law teleports, appearing in an instant between them.
Law
Zoro takes the round.
Sanji
WHAT?!?
Zoro
Hah!
Sanji
But why?!
Law
Points for… the unexpected.
Sanji throws his hands up in the air in frustration as Zoro raises a clenched fist in the air in victory.
—
They trudge through a particularly lush terrain. Zoro walked ahead, slicing long shrubs and leaves out of the way as the two followed behind him. Law has a snobbish look on his face.
Law
Not a good start, Pirate King-ya. Are you sure you played this game before?
It was Sanji's turn to look like he wanted to smack the man in the head. He takes a long drag of his smoke to compose himself before stomping on the leftover cigarette butt.
Zoro
I've seen him do crazy shit but that was just sad.
The blonde snaps and grabs the swordsman at the back of his collar to pull him face to face.
Sanji
Cocky shitty swordsman aren't you? You're supposed to be supportive of me!
Zoro didn't look surprised, fully remembering that Sanji has a certain temper whenever his ego gets damaged. He shrugs his shoulders.
Zoro
Hey, you set the stakes high. I can't let either one of you take advantage of my Warlord status.
And if you know Traffy, he has a certain love for spontaneity.
Still feeling pissed, Sanji lets go of the man. He walks ahead and lights another smoke.
Sanji
What does that even mean?
Zoro and Law follow him. The swordsman sheaths his sword, yawns then rests his hands at the back of his head.
Zoro
I mean, I wasn't too surprised when Luffy told me he's seeing him. At first, I thought it was just a once off–
Law
Zoro-ya!
Zoro
What? Was it supposed to be a secret?
Sure made that clear when you made out drunk in the middle of The Sunny–
Law
Enough already!
Sanji spins, walking backwards. His face lit up.
Sanji
No–tell me more! Traffy, I rarely hear anything about you and the Straw Hat!
Law pockets his hands, looking smaller with his hunched shoulders while grumbling to himself. There’s a tint of pink in his ears.
Sanji
Trafalgar D. Water Law…
Law
WHAT?
Sanji
You’re in love!
Zoro grins widely.
Law
ACK–
Sanji mirrored the swordsman’s smile. He teasingly prods.
Sanji
So…? Tell us how it happened….
Law
No.
Zoro
But he is, though.
Law
Shut up or I’ll slice your head off and keep it in a bag for the rest of the trip.
Sanji
Ohohoho! You’re cute when you’re defensive.
Zoro
Careful, the first time I met Traffy, I saw him behead a bunch of Marines. Left them alive too.
Sanji
Huh! What a useful power.
Sanji turns around to walk forwards. He dips his head down so his face is hidden behind his fringe, nursing the cigarette between his lips.
Sanji
Still, I don’t think you should be ashamed when you’re in love with someone.
Zoro and Law quietly observe him, detecting some sadness in his tone of voice. The swordsman considers his statement very carefully, suddenly having doubts if the man shares the same feelings as he does, or if there’s something that he did wrong.
Law
I have a feeling you’ll like him.
The blonde’s head tilts slightly towards him, listening closely.
Law
He…has this…effect on people. Even animals. He brightens up the room wherever he goes….
There is a moment of silence as the other two process that comment.
Zoro
I miss him too, Traffy.
Law averts his gaze to the side, trying to hide a smile and the ever reddening state of his face.
Sanji
I’d like to meet him one day. I keep hearing good things about the guy.
Zoro
He’s one of a kind. You’d know it when you see him.
After this, if you like, I can–
Sanji suddenly stops. He holds his arm out, signalling everyone to halt.
Law follows his instruction but Zoro accidentally bumps into his back.
Law
What is it?
Sanji
I believe I found our next obstacle.
Come on then! And be careful where you step.
The blonde steps aside and pulls back the shrubs to give way for the two to walk through. When they do, they find themselves on a cliffside with a rickety old bridge in front of them that connects their end of the island to the next. It’s barely holding itself together with most of the planks already rotted from weather and age.
Zoro
Huh. I knew we’d been ascending but I didn’t realise how high up we were already.
Sanji gives one of the support ropes a shake. The bridge wobbles, causing certain planks across the span of the bridge to give away and fall into the White Sea far below.
Law
Zoro-ya, you and me. Let’s do this.
Sanji
So keen! What’s got you all fired up?
Zoro
He’s just sore because he’s still shy about the whole Luffy thing.
Law
Am not!
I’ll kick your ass. You’ll see.
Sanji
Hold on, I want to watch from that side.
The blonde takes off his shoes and jumps on the rope that he’d been shaking. Effortlessly, he balances himself with one leg with his other raised up to his chest. He begins walking on the bridge with ease, still smoking his cigarette with one hand and holding his shoes with the other. He spreads out his arms now and then to shift his weight when gusts of wind cause the bridge to wobble slightly.
Zoro and Law watch his nerve-wrecking tightrope act as he makes his way over the White Sea. Both watching him nervously but also in silent amazement. Feeling that he had eyes on him, Sanji stops on his tracks and turns.
Sanji
What?
Zoro
How are you doing that?
Law
You remind me of one of those circus acts.
Sanji scoffs at that and breathes out smoke. He looked almost angry at the topic mentioned.
Sanji
I was part of one, when I was younger. I was taken in by a pirate troupe before they sold me to…you know what? I-it’s a long story.
I’ll meet you on the other side!
Sanji sounded like he didn't mean to reveal those details out loud. He spins and continues his way across.
Zoro and Law share a look, intrigued by the hint of the blonde's not very well known past which clearly caused a sudden shift in the man's demeanour. The swordsman continued to eye him, but now, more worriedly. He makes a point to make sure he checks in on him later as he knew he didn’t like talking about his history surrounding his life as a slave. He wonders if talking about Luffy had somehow triggered memories.
When Sanji gets to the other side, he vaults down on land and gives them a wave, signalling to go.
Law
So, Zoro-ya?
You did win the last round after all. Do you want to go first?
Zoro
No, I… I need to think.
Law
Don’t hurt yourself.
Zoro
Tch.
Law flicks his wrist and casts his Room ability.
Law
Tact!
Zoro jumps back to give the man some space, fully aware of what comes next.
The ground directly beneath the doctor floats up, shaped like a miniature island enough to hold his weight. It parts itself away from the main earth to carry him midair. Adjacent to the extracted ground, more mini islands pop up and begin to follow the one he’s standing on. They begin to spin around him as he flies towards the other side of the cliff.
The swordsman watches Law make an impressive show of his flight to Sanji. He should be focused on thinking of different ways that he could win the round so he can get two points ahead of everyone. Instead, he finds that he has his mind set on something else.
When he sees Law finish with a spectacular landing with his Tact ability, Zoro walks behind the nearest and tallest tree he could find. With one smooth swipe of Wado, the tree tips forward. The tall end of it crashes loudly on the other side, creating his very own bridge. He jumps up and speedily walks through.
On the other side, he’s met with Sanji’s bright blue eyes and wide grin–a sight that will never get old in his opinion.
Sanji
Again, with the little-to-no-effort attempt? You realise that I like it when people make a show of–mmph!
Zoro wraps a hand around the blonde’s hair and the other around the small of his back, yanking him into a sudden kiss. He tips the man backwards, lowering him towards the ground. He didn’t hesitate to push his tongue into the man’s mouth to pleasure him, causing surprised moans from the blonde in reaction. Sanji wraps his arms around his neck while his leg hooks around his back.
Law
OH, COME ON! THIS IS NOT FAIR!
Law spins around swiftly, walking the opposite direction to avoid seeing the couple in action.
The swordsman pulls back to look at Sanji eye to eye. He receives fluttering eyelids and a flustered face in return. The blonde reaches out to caress his face tenderly as they breathe in each other’s air for a moment. Right there and then, Zoro felt the utmost need to confess his love to him but decided against it because of the doctor’s presence. He wants him to know. He needs him to know.
The blonde giggles and licks his lips seductively.
Sanji
Aren’t you full of surprises today?
I believe I’ve reached a verdict….
Zoro straightens them both up. Sanji runs his hands over his open robe, fixing the crumpled fabric, then takes a step back.
Sanji
Law wins the round.
Law turns back rapidly. Zoro’s mouth is agape.
Zoro and Law
EHH?!?
Sanji shrugs, raising his hands as if to surrender.
Sanji
You made a great point earlier–the stakes are high. I can’t be biased just because we’re fucking. And I did say that I like it when people make a show of things. And Law's was just flashier. Nice try, but you can’t buy me like that.
Zoro felt hurt. Not because he didn’t win the round but because it didn't sound like he made much of an impact judging on the blonde’s tone of voice. He now has more doubts if his feelings for the man are reciprocated or felt at all. He considers the fact that the blonde is still allied with Doflamingo. Sanji had made it clear that they have had prior history together but he’s never specifically stated where they stand or what his intentions are with the other Warlord since getting together with him. He remembers Niji’s warning to him that he’s just a phase, making him even more worried.
Speechless, he watches the blonde walk off to the dirt path ahead.

They approach a waterfall in front of them. While they see a safer way around by following the path, Zoro suggests that they climb it instead as their next obstacle. The other two agreed and named him the next judge for the round.
Law
Think you can handle this, basic man?
Sanji lights up a cigarette and takes a long drag of smoke before exhaling.
Sanji
Tch. Bring it, mediocre doctor.
Zoro speedily runs up the rockface until he reaches the top of the waterfall so he could watch from above. He peeks over the edge and gives the two contenders a wave to signal them to go.
Law doesn't give the blonde a chance to make the first move. He takes a deep breath, then withdraws his sword and slices a nearby boulder at its base, detaching it from the ground. Following his swing, he swipes his blade upwards, slicing the boulder into smaller pieces and sending them up high. An aura of blue surrounds the area almost immediately, in which the doctor begins to make a series of teleportation and aerobatic jump maneuvers to climb his way up–zigzagging in the air, swapping places with the stones that he'd sent flying. At the very tip of the cliff, he lands gracefully on his feet, exhaling the air he'd been holding in his lungs. He gives Zoro a casual tip of his hat, making everything that he's just done look effortless.
Zoro nods back and raises an impressed brow as if to say “not bad”.
Out of nowhere, the grounds start shaking, and a giant Sky Shark bursts out from downstream the waterfall. Zoro and Law had to jump back to avoid the eventual drop as the giant creature lands in a huge crash by the riverbank. It raises its head up in the sky, roaring an earthshaking cry before it collapses dead on the ground in front of the two. Sanji pulls out his bloody claws from the back of its head and straightens up, his face full of pride from the successful hunt. Law presumed that he'd controlled the shark’s movements using its nervous system to swim up the cloud stream somehow.
Zoro looks between Sanji and Law, unsure with the decision. A sweatdrop flows down his brow. After some hesitation, he opens his mouth to say something but gets interrupted.
Sanji
Who's hungry? I believe it's dinner time.
Zoro and Law blink at him, then gaze towards the sky. They'd been so focused on the game that they didn't even realise the time. The sun is a couple of hours away from sinking.
Law
SHIT!
Law shuffles through his coat pockets in panic. He pulls out the Skypiea map and scans through it, his eyes shifting left and right rapidly. He lets out a pained groan and slaps his forehead, almost knocking his cap off his head.
Law
Fuck! We've been going the wrong way for at least three hours!!!
Zoro
…I think we're having way too much fun with this.
Sanji hops down from the shark's head and gives that devilish smile of his.
Sanji
But you are… having fun…aren't you?
Zoro takes his time admiring the man's features before smirking back at him.
Zoro
I don't know about Tra-guy, but I am.
Law crosses his arms. Sanji can't help but notice that he's slightly pouting.
Law
I can't say I'm not, I suppose.
Sanji grins at them playfully.

Sanji cringes at the way Zoro gutted the giant Sky Shark. Granted, they had limited tools to prepare a proper meal, bringing only what’s necessary that can be used for multiple purposes. One of them is apparently the man’s katana which he thought was overkill. He’d at least hoped that the man would be more efficient with pulling the meat out of the creature.
Zoro had used his swords to cut it open like a mad brute he is. He jerks his sword from its flesh, causing its guts to messily splatter on the ground. Afterwards, he turns his attention to the fins, slicing them clean off before tossing them aside out of his way. Before they fall onto the ground, Sanji catches them one by one.
Sanji
Err…Marimo, you know we can use these right?
Zoro
Hah? But the big chunk of meat isn't in them.
Sanji
While the body should give us enough to last us for at least a week, we can use these to stretch it longer, maybe even another week. These still have some good stuff in it.
Zoro
That’s good–I didn’t know that. Why don’t you prep those for cooking then? I’ll keep at this.
The swordsman begins to slice the shark’s skin open with his katana, tearing the perfect meat that Sanji knew was inside them.
Sanji
H-hey! I uh…why don't we just trade jobs and find us some firewood instead hmm? Maybe set up the fire too while you’re at it.
Zoro
But I got a big sword. This is a big fish.
The blonde carefully lays the giant fins on a pile of large leaves that he had put aside earlier. He rummages through his pack to pull out a leather scroll containing various kitchen knives that he'd borrowed from the Polar Tang. He spreads it out on their makeshift table.
Sanji
I got it covered.
Impressed and surprised with his collection, Zoro follows his instructions and walks off. The sound of trees being felled is heard from a distance.
Law returns to their dedicated campsite with an armful of various herbs and crops. He drops them unceremoniously next to the shark fins. Sanji recognises most of them, much to his relief, but some look alien to him.
Sanji
Thanks. Uh… are those edible?
Law
Most of them. Some I need for medicinal purposes.
Sanji
Why did you mix it all in–?
Law
Is this good to go?
The doctor grabs one of the fins he’s set aside and settles himself on the makeshift table. He begins to cover the meat with some of the herbs he'd collected but the blonde notices that some of the weird-looking ones had been mixed up.
Sanji
They still need to be peeled and cleaned–AHH! DON'T!
D-doctor…why don't you fetch us some water instead?
Law
Hah? Why don’t you do it? I'm already in the middle of this.
Sanji
You're butchering it…. Just–just–
Zoro
Oi, Traffy! I just got a fire going!
Law
Perfect. Let's get to it.
Law grabs a random stick from the ground and skewers the fin messily, bits of loose meat and herbs fall off on the ground. He walks towards Zoro but then a hand grabs onto his coat and pulls him back.
Sanji
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Seriously, how are you two still alive?!
Zoro and Law
Hah?!
Law
It's just food.
Sanji
Not in that state, it's not!
What's this–? Traffy, did you shove an entire garlic inside it?!
Zoro
I thought you don't give a shit about good food?
Sanji
I care about it being edible!
Sanji yanks the doctor backwards and swipes the skewered fin off his hands.
Sanji
You–get some water. And come back with some more of those vegetables but DON’T just dump them all in a mixed pile with your doctor crap. Sort them out!
And you–clean up this mess! Don't you go camping? If we leave food out it'll attract unwanted creatures while we sleep!
Zoro
Why do I get to clean?
Sanji
You make the mess, you clean it up!
Zoro and Law watch the grumpy man take charge of the whole thing, effectively shooing them away from their made up kitchen station.

By nightfall they settled around the fire to feed themselves with Sanji's cooking. They also have extra food that the blonde has portioned and set aside which should last them a couple of weeks. Upon realising that they have to pack them up and carry them for the road, Zoro clears his bag to make way for the food. He starts pulling out bottles of booze that he'd stolen from the Polar Tang which Law wasn't too happy with.
Sanji
Nothing goes to waste.
After giving Law his portion, he winks at Zoro as he hands him his bowl of stir-fry Sky Shark with rice and native produce. Grabbing a bowl for himself, he settles himself next to the swordsman by the fire.
Sanji
The same goes with the booze. We better drink it all up.
Zoro
You read my mind.
Zoro leans over and kisses his cheek lightly.
Zoro
Thanks for the meal, Curlybrows.
Sanji
It's nothing.
Law
Yes, thank you, Mr. Prince-ya. It’s much appreciated.
Sanji
What, are you going to give me a kiss too?
I don’t think Marimo would appreciate that.
Law
Go to hell.
Sitting at the opposite side of the fire, Law takes a bite and audibly groans out loud in pleasure, causing the two to look at him curiously.
The doctor notices them staring and closes his eyes, trying to ignore them.
Law
What? It's good.
Zoro blinks at that and takes a bite himself. He pauses for a second as his eye widens. Suddenly, he begins to chow down on the food as fast as he can.
Zoro
YO ROIGHT! ISH SHO GOOD!!!
Sanji
Slow down or else you'll choke–
The swordsman does. He repeatedly punches his chest to clear out the blockage. Sanji gives his back a couple of good whacks, causing the man to cough. Finally, Zoro takes a big gulp and downs the rest with the help of his drink.
When they finished their meals and each had at least a couple of bottles of booze to themselves, they sat around the fire to unwind, fully satisfied from their fill of food and tipsy from all the drinking. Zoro was first to spill his thoughts from his loosened tongue.
Zoro
You lied to me.
Sanji blows smoke from his lungs then tosses the spent cigarette into the fire. He looks at him curiously.
Sanji
What about? I personally thought that I've been good recently.
Zoro tilts his head slightly towards him.
Zoro
You have. But I thought you told me one time that you don't give a shit about good food?
That was one of the best meals I've ever had.
Law
I agree. Seems like there's a lot we don't know about you, Mr. Prince-ya.
Sanji's face goes red from the flattery. He hugs his knees to his chest and rests his chin on them. He sighs.
Sanji
When I was young, I used to cook for my sick mother. It was around the time when my father had just locked me away. I kept begging the guards to bring me recipe books and ingredients to cook with. Some of the kind ones obliged. I really wanted to get good at it. Maybe, I thought, it would help heal her somehow…. That's when I read about the All Blue. I uh…even wanted to find it. It was a childish dream.
The blonde takes a swill from his bottle. He smacks his lips then leans back with a hand on the ground behind him for support, looking up to the clear skies above them.
Sanji
When she died, I tried to keep it up to get some semblance of joy out of…something. But being in isolation for so long and having my siblings beat me down for trying, it just led to nothing good…I don't know…. Over time, I lost interest, along with my will to live. I think the old me died right there and then, in that old dark cell where my father kept me. Along with any dreams I had.
Eventually, because I stopped asking the guards to bring me anything, I was forgotten. Starved. I had to go without any food for months before someone would remember and bring me their scraps out of pity.
Sanji gestures at the pile of food that they had bundled up sitting near their packs.
Sanji
So yeah, I don't give a shit about good food. But I won't let any go to waste in my watch. There's so much you can do to even the smallest parts of an ingredient.
Zoro and Law look at him sadly. The doctor sighs, then stretches his legs on the ground outwards, trying to warm his feet in front of the fire.
Law
Well, I thought your food was delicious. What you learned from those recipe books must have stuck with you. Clearly you have a natural talent for it. Imagine what you can do now if you get back to it…if that's something you want to do that is.
Sanji doesn't look at him, but he gives his statement a long good thought.
Sanji
Thanks…Traffy.
Zoro gazes between the two of them. He stretches his arm out with an open palm, asking if he can share some of Sanji's drink. The blonde obliges and hands the bottle over. The swordsman gratefully takes and drinks from it. He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand before staring up at the sky, watching a couple of falling stars fly by.
Zoro
Kuina.
Sanji and Law look at him curiously.
Zoro
She was my goal. She's one of the reasons why I wanted to be the world's greatest swordsman.
We both made a promise to each other…but one day, she just suddenly passed. Some unfortunate accident with a flight of steps. It happens, I suppose. But now I carry our shared dream with me, and I intend to fulfill it, no matter what it takes.
Sanji
She sounds special to you. Is that why you're so keen on defeating Mihawk?
Zoro chuckles lightly.
Zoro
Yes, partly. But then…you happened.
Sanji
Oh…but–
Zoro
You're not a swordsman, I know. But defeating you became my goal. How can I top Mihawk when I can't even beat you?
The blonde looks down at the fire, thinking hard. He's unsure on what can be done to rectify this, or what to do with the information that Zoro had thought of him in this way for so many years without him knowing. He certainly doesn't want to get back to their old ways just so the man can fulfil his dreams.
Law
Have you tried to face Mihawk recently, Zoro-ya? Surely fighting the Pirate King of the North for a couple of decades would have given you a lot more experience than just your normal training regimen.
Zoro's brows shoot up at that realisation.
Zoro
No…. I haven't challenged him since I was nineteen.
…Why didn't I think of that?
Sanji lays down on the ground, resting his hands behind his head.
Sanji
I'm not saying that you're better than me in a fight…but you did kill me that one time. If not for my siblings, I would have been a goner for good.
The swordsman laughs out loud. He slaps his forehead with a hand as he leant backwards.
Zoro
That's true! I have beaten you!!!
Sanji
That was one round! We had many more battles afterwards. Don't let it go to your huge moss head!
Zoro
Uh-huh. How does it feel to have the silver medal?
Sanji
Shut up. Keep that up and I'll show you who's really on top here.
Zoro stops laughing but smirks at the man. Sanji returns his smile with his own.
Zoro
Don't make promises you can't keep.
Sanji
Guess I'll just have to show you….
The swordsman leans over and plants a soft kiss on the corner of his lips, lingering there for a moment as they both take in each other's breaths.
Law rolls his eyes and looks away. It seems like there's going to be more of this and the day is barely out. At the corner of his eye, he sees the bottle being offered to him by the swordsman. Reluctantly, he takes it.
The doctor looks down at the bottom of the bottle through its mouth. He purses his lips, hesitant to talk. After a while, he takes a swill and hugs his knees to his chest. He stares sorrowfully at the campfire in front of them as he speaks weakly.
Law
I think Cora-san is well and truly dead.
Sanji sits up and both him and the swordsman look at him in disbelief.
Law keeps his gaze averted, feeling ashamed. From his coat pockets, he pulls out the stack of letters that he'd collected throughout his journey prior to the two joining him.
Law
I don't know when and how…but he left all these for me to find. I'm guessing it's whenever he was away from home while he was still undercover. I think he left me these as a gift. Like he's trying to show me something.
I…I didn't want to admit it to anyone else. I haven't told the rest of my crew either. I was afraid no one would want to come along if they knew the truth.
Zoro looked shocked but Sanji wore an impassive face. He waits until he sees Law looks at him eye to eye before he speaks.
Sanji
How do you know he's truly dead? What if he's waiting for you right at the end?
Law
I saw his corpse, Mr. Prince-ya.
I wanted to believe that it was possible for him to be alive when I first found his letters…but I just kept remembering his dead body right before my eyes….
He looks down at the tattoos on his hand.
Law
My knowledge as a trained surgeon only solidified the fact that there was no way for him to survive all that.
Sanji sighs, but doesn't prod any further. Instead, he resides in returning his gaze to the stars above.
Sanji
I'm sorry. That must have been hard.
Zoro
I agree. That's rough, Traffy.
Law
Wait, you two aren't mad or upset? You're not just going to bail from all this?
Zoro
I agreed to come along because we're friends. And I intend to stick around. Plus I know that I won't hear the end of it from Luffy if I don't help.
So…what's keeping you, Curls?
Sanji raises his brows at the two of them, feeling surprised at being questioned.
Sanji
If you had told me all this earlier, I may have left, that much is true.
Law
And…now?
The blonde smiles at the doctor then scoops out Zoro's hand and places a kiss on the palm of his hand. The swordsman's eye softens as they hold hands.
Sanji
Unfortunately for you, I’ve grown fond of you lot. Guess you're stuck with me for a while.
Suddenly, all of Zoro's doubts from earlier in the day washed away, almost like there was no trace of it. He'd never been more sure about what he wants for the rest of his life.
Sanji shifts on his side and props himself on his elbow, resting his cheek on the palm of his hand.
Sanji
So, Marimo-kun? Your final verdict for this round?
Law blinks dumbfoundedly at that, then his eyes widen and mouth drops open at the slow realisation.
Law
THE FOOD AND ALL THIS WAS PART OF YOUR STUNT, YOU BASTARD?!
Zoro grins widely.
Zoro
Curls wins this round by a long shot. Sorry, Traffy.
Sanji laughs heartily.

The dim light from the campfire shone through Zoro and Sanji's shared tent. It was dark but they had just enough light for them to see their silhouettes.
The swordsman loomed over the other on their sheets, pounding hard into him at a slow pace.
Sanji arches his back and tries to move his own hips. He grips the sheets behind his head to get a better angle.
Sanji
M-Marimo…I need–ah–I need…more–
The swordsman indulges him and thrusts faster, pulling the man's hip upwards as he pushes down to penetrate deeper. He hears the man under him let out a stifled moan from the new angle.
Zoro
Fuck…you're so tight. You fit me so well….
His movements become erratic as he approaches his peak.
With desperate eyes and a flushed face, Sanji speaks through broken breaths.
Sanji
Ah–I want you to…f-fill me up…and m-make a mess of me...
Zoro groans at that. He pulls out suddenly to flip the man onto his stomach and pin him to the ground. He grabs his hips up to reinsert himself in one smooth motion.
Sanji
AHH! R–right there!! Fuck!
The swordsman starts a brutal unrelenting thrusts to give Sanji exactly what he asked for.
Repeatedly feeling Zoro hit his sweet spot and the friction of his own dick on the ground quickly takes Sanji over the edge. His eyes roll at the back of his head in pure bliss and, with a cry, he spills over their sheets. The swordsman follows almost immediately, filling him with a generous load.
They both take a moment to catch their breaths and recover from the high. With a grunt, Zoro pulls out and collapses next to his companion. He buries his face into the other's blonde hair to nuzzle the back of his neck with his nose, not seeming to get enough of his scent.
Sanji reaches out behind him to grab the swordsman's hand. He brings it over his shoulder to plant a kiss on his hand.
Sanji
For the record…I liked your swinging earlier today.
Zoro chuckles at that.
Zoro
Yeah? I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
Sanji
And then the way you suddenly kissed me after that other, poor attempt of a stunt–was so hot.
Being showered with compliments left the swordsman speechless. Instead of speaking, he wraps his arms around the blonde's waist to pull him in a tight embrace, smooching the back of his head in appreciation. He kicks himself for having any sort of doubts about the man earlier in the day.
After a short rest, Sanji turns his head to face Zoro. He gives a light peck on his nose, his fingers slide up to play with his earrings.
Sanji
Think you can handle round three?
He starts pecking him under his jaw, moving his way down. He gives him a small bite at the nook of his neck.
Zoro chuckles lightly, still trying to catch his breath as he gets pushed to lay on his back.
Zoro
In a moment. You drive me crazy, do you know that?
Sanji lets out a pleasurable moan in response and mounts him, giving him a barrage of kisses from his neck down to his chest, earning him a deep sigh in satisfaction.
Zoro
Fuck, you're gorgeous.
The swordsman cups his face and pulls him up gently to get a proper look at him, then slides his hands up and down the man's front, eyeing him up and down.
Mouth agape, Sanji grinds his dick over the other's already growing semi.
Zoro
F-fuck…
Zoro props himself on an elbow then sits up to wrap his arms around the blonde's waist. He buries his face on his neck, under the cover of his disheveled hair. He takes a long whiff of his scent as he slides his hands up and down his back.
Sanji
Sorry, I can't wait. I just can't get enough of you.
Sanji tilts his head to claim his mouth. His hands travel up to tangle his fingers in his hair. He pulls him closer to deepen the kiss.
Zoro groans out loud as his mouth gets penetrated and explored with the blonde's experienced tongue. He welcomes him, leaving his mouth agape as the other makes a mess out of him.
They stay like this for a while until Sanji pulls himself to look at the swordsman who tips slightly forward to follow the momentum, craving for more.
Sanji
What's on your mind?
Zoro
Hmm?
Zoro's eye flutters open, looking into the other’s wide diluted blue eyes.
Sanji
You've got something in your mind…. I can tell. Are you okay?
Zoro
I…y-yeah….
Sanji caresses his face with the back of his hand.
Sanji
You know, we don't have to go for another round if you don't feel like it. You know that you can say no, right?
Zoro
No, no, I do want to. It's just….
Zoro leans forwards until their foreheads touch together.
Zoro
I'm just thinking how much you mean to me. And how much I've fallen for you. I'm crazy for you, and I hope you know that. I don't want to ever let you go.
Sanji's eyebrows shoot up, then his expression softens, feeling his face go red. He gives him a warm smile.
Sanji
Zoro… you know that I lo–
Out of nowhere, blood bursts out of the blonde’s nose, spilling over Zoro’s chest. It continues to twinkle down his chin.
Sanji
Not again!
Sanji pinches the bridge of his nose and tilts his head back as he lifts himself off the swordsman to sit back on his heels.
Zoro
Hold on, let me get my old robe.
Sanji
Don’t be silly. It’ll stain. I’ll grab some rags from outside.
There's something that I've always wanted to tell you too…. Don't go anywhere.
Sanji gives him one final wink before grabbing his cloak and wraps himself in it.
Zoro smiles sweetly at that, feeling excited especially after getting a hint of what the blonde had wanted to say.
Zoro
A-alright. I’ll be here.
The blonde gives his hand a reassuring squeeze then steps out into the chill of the night.
He makes his way past their campfire towards their packs where he finds the old cloth that he had in mind. He cleans his face quickly with it before grabbing a fresh one for Zoro. He spins to return to their shared tent but comes to a halt when he feels a tingle at the back of his neck.
His observation haki kicked in but he wasn’t fast enough, only just managing to raise his arms just in time to stop sharp strings wrap around his neck. They coil around his wrists, binding them.
Sanji
ZO–!
A hand from behind covers his mouth and he disappears from the campsite in an instant, leaving a small trail of leaves twisting upwards.
Sanji didn’t return to their tent that night. No sounds can be heard but the crackling of fire.

There are no visible scars on Sanji's body in the concept art as I wanted to focus on the overall shapes of the outfit designs. I haven't picked a variant to go with yet but maybe I'll have something ready by next chapter!

Something was off.
The daily walk home from the shop felt like a marathon, everything just felt so exhausting lately. This earned many concerned glances from Khargaad as the two of you reached the end of the season’s harvest. You spent many a moment slumped on your knees, hands folded in your lap.
“You haven’t seemed yourself lately.” He tilted his canteen to your lips, letting you take a sip of his water. You wiped your brow, “I know, I’m just… so tired all the time.”
“Hmmm...” He stroked the back of your head, ignoring how sweaty and gross you were from working, “Let’s finish up for today, does that sound good?”
You nodded weakly, shouting no protest as he scooped you up in his arms. Before you knew it you were sitting in the grass outside of his tent. You almost fell asleep right there before you heard the lighting of a fire, and sloshing of water from the creek. You opened your eyes, seeing him filling a large washbasin.
Before long steam rose from the surface of the basin and you felt hands pulling at the strings of your tunic. “Let me take care of this.” Khargaad’s voice cooed in that special way that could melt you. He undressed you and led you by your hand to the basin, letting you step in to the deliciously hot water before undressing himself. He settled behind you in the water, pulling you onto his lap.
There was nothing sexual or suggestive about the way his touch landed on your skin. Just tender and caring. He lathered you in soap and massaged your muscles, eventually letting you sink your back into his chest. He rested one hand on your tummy, rubbing therapeutic circles into you.
“Maybe you should take it easier?” He leaned down to kiss your shoulder. You huffed, “I’ll be alright.”
“Okay…” His tone did not sound entirely confident in your statement, but he accepted it nonetheless. That night he walked you home, clothed in his shirt that fit you like a dress. Tucked into bed, you could hear him and your mother chatting outside but their words were undecipherable.

It wasn’t just you that was off now. Every day of the following week you found your mother waking up before you to making breakfast.
“Oh my darling, I don’t want to hear it. Sleep in and get some rest.”
Khargaad now consistently walked you to and from the town square, making sure to come and give you a kiss on the cheek in the mornings before leaving to hunt.
Today, you were clearing out a junk closet in the shop, too busy to hear the door open behind you.
“Now this really is low, y/n.”
You hadn’t heard that voice in ages. Not since Khargaad had scared Milo out of your shop all those weeks ago. You shot up, looking behind you to see Milo with a rather sickened look on his face.
“Surely you haven’t been fucking that orc?”
You clenched your fists, wrapping a tighter grip on the pocket knife you already had in your hand. “Get the fuck out of my shop.”
“Won’t be yours for long. You won’t make it through winter.”
“Guess you’re right because we’ll be long gone by then.” You retorted with a cocky confidence.
“Excuse me?” His eyes narrowed.
Perhaps you should shut your big mouth now. “Nothing.” Your voice wavered unconvincingly. He took a step towards you.
“No, not nothing. You have something planned. You and that mother of yours. Maybe even that big stupid orc, whore.”
You raised the knife threateningly, “Milo, you need to leave now.” You tried your best to put on an air of confidence, but you had quite possibly put all of the plans in jeopardy. Milo lacked the honor and dignity which would stop a regular person from doing a terrible thing in the name of vengeance.
He huffed, turning around to leave. On his way out, he slammed the door with such force that it shattered a pane of glass on the door. You turned your head just slightly, seeing Khargaad standing on the other end of the square. It seemed as if he had just returned from his hunt to catch Milo storming out, and based on his heaving shoulders he was fuming.
It was a tense walk home.
“Are you… angry with me?” You were bewildered by his demeanor. He stopped in his tracks, getting down on one knee to get on your level.
“No. No no no. How… could I be angry with you?” He was so sweet, so calm. You sighed, cupping his cheek, “You’re just so tense, so angry-“
“I’m scared, y/n.” He cut you off. You didn’t like seeing him like this. He was shaking a little bit, “I’m scared of him. Before I met you, we happened to frequent the same taverns every now and then. I’ve heard him say things that frighten me. I don’t think he would hesitate to hurt you or your mother.”
You knew this just as well as he did. Khargaad had brought his hand up to your waist, thumbing over your stomach. It seemed soothing to him.
“We need to develop a plan. Now.” You pulled on him to follow you. The sooner you were out of town the better, and didn’t like the idea of Milo possibly being clued in on that fact.

“Within the next two weeks, at the very least.” Your mother proclaimed at the dining table. Khargaad nodded, crossing his arms satisfiedly. You just sat there dumbfounded.
“I’m sorry. two weeks? Why does it seem like you two had this worked out before we even sat down!”
They were shooting nervous glances at each other.
“Well-“
“You've-“
They had both started at the same time, stumbling over each other’s words. There was something going on. You shot up, pointing two accusatory fingers at them, “Ma! You start first. Then Khargaad. Go.”
The woman stared down at her hands twiddling her thumbs, “Well… what I was going to say was… you sure you’ve been feeling alright lately sweetheart?” You stood there baffled, did they think you were about to be on your deathbed or something? Khargaad breathed out,
“You’ve missed a period.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but as you wracked your brain you realized, by the Gods, the orc was right. You disregarded the fact that he had seemingly been tracking your cycles in secret. A lot of things began making sense as the reality set in.
How daft did you have to be for these two to figure out you were pregnant before your own self. The bottom of your lip quivered as you tried to figure out a rational response to the situation. Maybe… maybe it was just a random fluke in your cycle. Maybe it was something else. This wasn’t a part of the plan. You hadn’t accounted for a baby at all.
A warm hand slipped around yours. Khargaad was staring at you with unbridled adoration, tears running down his face. You were so lost in thought, you hadn’t even noticed your mother leave the room.
“Talk to me.” His voice was shaking, it almost sounded like a plea. As if waiting for you to break your silence on this was his own personal form of torture.
“I- I- What are we going to-“ The words tried to clumsily fall from your lips. You lifted the edge of your tunic, staring down at the bare stomach, and sure enough there was the slight bump that hadn’t eased on its own. It was so subtle that you had been writing it off as merely bloat. But now, you looked down and couldn’t see it any other way.
“Oh my Gods.” You began to cry a confusing mixture of happy and scared tears. Clearly the pull-out method was not entirely dependable. You looked back at your lover, still with tears streaming down his own face.
“When I realized you might be… oh merciful gods I was terrified too.” He laughed weakly, squeezing your hand, “I can’t speak on how you must be feeling right now. But…” He sniffled, “…You’re not alone.”
It started with a low chuckle, then you broke into a full laugh. Khargaad looked at you, bewildered, as if maybe this was the (giant) straw that broke the camels back.
“We need to leave. Not even in two weeks. In one week. In a couple days. I need to close up the shop, we need to pack-“ You were rambling frantically.
“So… so you want to keep it?”
You almost choked on your own words, looking down at Khargaad who was still sitting in his chair. He was afraid to admit how thrilled he was, his worst fear was making you feel pressured by his own feelings. After all, it was your decision in the end.
“Oh Khargaad,” you took his hand and placed it on your stomach, “all I’m thinking is what kinda person they’re gonna be. Will they be an artist? A hunter? An explorer?”
He giggled through his tears, pulling you close to nuzzle his head into your stomach. The dull ends of his tucks grazed over your skin. “Whoever they may be, they will know the overwhelming love of their mother and father.”
This was surreal. You had been so caught up dealing with life, the thought of a baby was completely foreign to you. Yet here you were, being confronted by the idea in the most literal way possible. Then a thought struck you.
“Khargaad, we’re going to your home, right?”
He nodded, still practically purring into your stomach like a cat. “They won’t be… angry that you’re with a human?” He shook his head, “‘Course not, my brother Vakgar’s been with his husband Thierry for six years now. We love that guy.” His voice was muffled into your skin.
You sighed, coming down from the emotional high of this entire situation. “We’ll need a wagon, a big one. Probably one? No, two strong draft horses. And then-“ your mind was already picking up from where it left off, you scrambled for a piece of paper and quill to write it all down.
“Hush my love. Me and your Ma have it handled. Just say the word and we can be packed and ready in three days.”
“Well consider this the word. Let’s go. I… don’t want to stay around and wait for it to start showing.” He knew you were talking about Milo. The last thing you all needed was him finding out about this.
“Yes we agree. Definitely.” Khargaad replied, making his way to the door. “Will you need to go back into town again?” It was clear he wanted the answer to be no, but he would be disappointed unfortunately. “Just one more day.” You responded with a sorry look in your eyes. The two of you came to a compromise, you would do what you needed to do for that day, only if you didn't leave his sight for even on second. And you could only go into town once the lot of you were good and ready to leave. In case you needed to make a run for it.
He marched over to you, pulling you into a long deep kiss.
He pulled away, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a gold chain. Hanging from it was an engraved gold ring.
“I’ve been holding on to this for… uhm. Hehe. I bought it a couple weeks ago. And I thought… I thought had gotten a good fit but then I slipped it on your finger in your sleep and it was like hilariously large and then all of this started and I didn’t want you to think I was only doing this because you’re pregnant. I was always going to-“
You cut him off with a giggle, letting the ring fall into the palm of your hand.
“Yes, I’ll marry you Khargaad.”

The next three days felt like a whirlwind. Khargaad FINALLY had a valid excuse to stop you from lifting heavy things and he was being entirely greedy about it.
“Don’t over-exert yourself love.”
You were carrying a basket of jars, probably not more than 15 pounds. You rolled your eyes playfully, “I can’t just sit around-“
He gently took the basket out of your hands, kissing you atop the head, “Now, this evening we’re gonna be in and out, as fast as possible right?”
You nodded, cradling your stomach. With a dress on it as impossible to notice.
As the sun began to set, Khargaad followed you into town. All you needed to do was put your remaining merchandise outside the door, writing a sign that said “free, please take.” It wasn’t much anyways, you could live without the small amount of coin you were gonna lose.
With the job done, the two of you hurried off. The path back to your cottage was a long dirt road, and eventually he just scooped you into his arms to pick up the pace. As a skilled hunter, Khargaad was very aware as to how vulnerable the two of you were right now.
And then he heard it. A clicking noise, frighteningly similar to the mechanical sound of someone loading a crossbow. Most would have never been able to distinguish the difference between this noise and any other normal forest sound.
He was reacting before you could register the sound of something whizzing through the air. You screamed, feeling yourself falling on your ass in the dirt. Khargaad clenched his shoulder, his dark thick blood beginning to bubble through his fingers. The two of you reeled around, seeing Milo standing in the middle of the path struggling to reload his crossbow.
The following moment which occurred felt like slow motion. Like one of those nightmares where no matter how hard you run, you can’t get your feet to move faster than a snail pace.
Khargaad hadn’t been directly hit, but the thick iron arrow from Milo’s weapon had grazed him leaving a nasty gash in his shoulder. The orc had a frenzied look in his eyes, like he was stuck in some sort of waking paralysis, unable to move his feet.
You looked back at Milo, still struggling and now yelling curses, and back to the serrated bowie knife Khargaad always kept on his waist.
As the classic saying goes: kill or be killed.

There were things you were always going to remember about this night, like the whites of Milo’s eyes as you hurled the knife into his thin sinewy neck, the heat of his blood spurting on your face, the taste of iron when it got into your mouth. His strangled final breaths, understanding leaving his eyes.
You were yanking Khargaad in a jog behind you, seeing the lights of the cottage ahead. The covered wagon was set to go, horses bridled. You thanked the Gods for his foresight to insist on having everything ready like this. Your mother was standing outside, lantern in hand. She nearly fainted when the two of you were close enough for her to register the scene.
“You’re bleeding!”
“He is.” You insisted, climbing into the back, “Ma, you need to take the reigns, we need to go. Now.”
She snapped her senses, clambering onto the front and balling her fists around the leather. If there were two things you could thank your father for, it was teaching your mother how to steer a horse-drawn wagon, and the years of practice you got out of dressing his wounds after bar fights. You pulled Khargaad into the back, drawing the folds closed and hanging the lantern above the two of you. The bottles and supplies in your first aid kit glinted menacingly
“This will be unpleasant, my love. I’m sorry.”

Arthur pacing around in his chambers after Morgana fell sick and he encountered Edwin.
Arthur: (thinking, trying to convince himself) She's evil, she's going to become evil, it's okay if she dies. She's evil, she's going to become evil, she must die. She's evil, she's going to- (Shouts and throws a lamp againts a wall, furious with himself)¡AAARRGH!(sinks in a couch an covers his face, thinking miserably) Why can't I let her die? I watched her take her last breath before my eyes before, damn it! This shouldn't hurt this much.
Merlin: (enters) Arthur?
Arthur: (sighs and takes his hands out of his face, exhausted) Don't you know how to knock?
Merlin: (with a comforting smile) You know I never do that. (gets close and puts himself infront of Arthur, bending down to be at his height) She's going to be alright, Arthur. She's strong. You'll see.
Arthur: (smiles back, but it doesn't reach his eyes) A man came to the castle this morning. He claims he can cure her. (thinking) Of course he can, he was the one who did this to her.
Merlin: (thinking, wary) Edwin... (says) How could he? Not even Gaius knows what's wrong with her.
Arthur: He says he has a remedy to cure all ills.
Merlin: That doesn't exist. It's impossible.
Arthur: I know that! But what other option do we have? Morgana is dying and we are farther from close to find a cure! We don't lose anything by trying (thinking) And we gain everything by doing it. Once he cures her I can kill him.
Merlin: (puts a comforting hand on his shoulder, hesitantly, but relaxes when Arthur doesn't reject the touch) You really love her a lot, don't you?
Arthur: (with unshed tears) We grow up together. She's like a sister to me. I can't let her die. (Thinking) Even when she doesn't share the same sentiment. I just can't.
Merlin: Wait till tomorrow. If she doesn't get better, you can fetch the man.
Arthur: I'm the prince, Merlin. You can't tell me what to do.
Merlin: But?
Arthur: It's too late the fetch the man now. I'll wait till tomorrow.
Merlin: (smiles) Wise as always, my lord.
Arthur: (caresses the hand on his shoulder, lovinly) Thank you, Merlin.
Merlin: (blushes, nervous) 😳 I... I didn't do anything.
Arthur: You did. (Looks at Merlin's eyes intendly) Thank you. (They stare a each other, faces inches from the other).
Merlin: (snaps out of it and moves away) I-I need to go 😅 (smiles nervously and walks backwards) Eh... Physician apprentice things to do- (collides whit the table and some things fall and he picks them up quickly) Sorry!
Arthur: (laughs softly) Don't stay awake late. Rest.
Merlin: Right... you too. I'll be back to dress you in a minute, so don't sleep until I get back! 😅 (Leaves, thinking) 'Don't sleep until I get back'? Really? 😳😖🤦♂️
Arthur: (Sighs, thinking) Sleep. If only I could.
It's rare the times Arthur has a good night of sleep. Nightmares or rather memories of the time Merlin was a tree always assault his mind. Specially the time Merlin was turned before his eyes and he couldn't do anything about it, too weak from his wound, too useless. It's better now that Merlin sleeps in the antechambers. He just has to open the door and watch him sleep there peacefully, human and alive, and his heart is at easy again. Now with Morgana at death's door there's no way he's going to catch any sleep at all.
Arthur: (whispers to himself) I still have time. Tomorrow. Just wait until tomorrow.
Time skip. For everyone's surprise, Morgana wakes in the morning all cured, like she has never been ill in the first place.
Uther: (happy and relieved) Morgana! (Goes to her) This is truly a miracle. I thought... I really thought...
Morgana: (smiles) Oh, you won't get rid of me that easily.
Arthur: We certainly won't. (Just as realived and happy, puts hand on her shoulder, unconsciously) I'm glad you're alright, Gana.
Morgana: (surprised he's showing affection to her again, but touched) Gana... You haven't called me like that since we were kids.
Arthur: (realising he put a hand on her shoulder and puts it away) Right. Sorry, I know you don't like it.
Morgana: (messing with him) Oh, you can call me like that if you want. If you let me call you... Art? Arthie?
Arthur: Don't you dare! (He threatens but then they both laugh and look at each other fondly)
Gaius: I still need to make a few tests to see if she is really out of danger, but for what I can see, she'll be fully recovered in no time, sire.
Uther: Of course. Thank you, Gaius.
Gaius: I don't consider this was exactly my doing (looks at Merlin significantly and Merlin makes himself small in his place). But I'm glad to be of service as always, your majesty. I'll prepare some concoctions to prevent any outbrake just in case. (Makes a bow and it's about to leave, but then turns to Merlin sternly) Merlin?
Merlin: (sighs) Coming (bows quickly and leaves with him)
Uther: (frowns, thinking) Is it my idea or did he vow in the direction of Arthur alone?
Arthur: (who saw all the exchange between mentor and ward) I'll go to inform everyone the good news. Morgana, father (smiles politely makes a bow to both of them and leaves too)
Morgana: (sighs, a little sad, thinking) And cold Arthur is back.
Time skip. In Gaius Tower. Gaius scolding Merlin.
Gaius: You used magic on the king's ward?! What were you thinking?!
Merlin: I was thinking that I didn't want her to die! She's my friend and she's very dear to Arthur-
Gaius: Arthur, Arthur. Is what all this is about isn't it? I know he's the prince and you care for him. But let me remind you, he's still the prince of a kingdom that bans magic. Do you have any idea of what would have happened to you if someone discovered you? if someone have seen you?
Merlin: (explodes) Yes I know! Of course I know! Every time a wake up, every time I breathe, I know I could be killed at any moment. I watch every pyre that is made fearing maybe I could be next. I watch every friendly face, knowing that if they knew, if they only knew, they'll see me like a monster. I have to look at Uther, the man that would have me executed, the murderer of all my kind, and I have to serve him and smile at him trying to no throw up every day. So yes I perfectly fucking know, Gaius!
Gaius: ...
Merlin: (with teary eyes and his voice breaks) But I can't stop doing it, I can't separate myself from it. And I tried, believe me I tried, but I can't. Magic is part of me, is who I am. So I'll use it however I see fit, whenever I can, because no one knows the risks of using magic in a kingdom that forbids my very existence better than I do!
Silence...
Gaius: You're right. I don't understand it. I will never understand it. Magic was never to me what it is to you. I'm sorry I didn't see it before.
Merlin: It's alright. I know you only worry about me.
Gaius: It's more than that. (puts both of his hands on Merlin's shoulders) Merlin, in this short time I've known you, you've become like a son to me. I can't bare to lose you.
Merlin: (smiles) You won't lose me. I'm sorry, I didn't want to upset you.
Gaius: Then for the sake of this old man, stop doing these things behind my back.
Merlin: Only of you promise to help me rather than forbid me of doing things. I still need guidance, I still need you.
Gaius: Alright (he hugs him close and then pulls away). Lets start with how you cured Lady Morgana. I don't recall giving you any healing magic classes.
Merlin: I didn't have to, I just had to call this little one out of her ear. (pulls out a beetle from his pocket) I think it was what was making her sick. Do you know what it is?
Gaius: (alarmed) Don't touch it! (picks a jar and opens it) Put it here. Now! (Merlin does it and Gaius closes the jar) It's an Elanthia Beetle. They can be enchanted to enter the brain, feed on it until they devour the person's very soul. Thank the gods you managed to pull it out.
Merlin: (who already knew all this, but still has to play ignorant) So Morgana was echanted? By who?
Gaius: There are many sorcerers who wish to cause harm to the crown, my boy. But, whoever it is, once they find out their plan failed, they are going to try again.
Time skip. Merlin leaves Gaius tower with Morgana's concoctions and almost jumps out of his skin, when he sees Arthur is there at the door.
Merlin: (scared, but trying to disimulate, closing the door behind him) Arthur! How long have you been there?
Arthur: (who heard the whole conversation, very affected) I... I just arrived.
Merlin: (relieved, but concerned for Arthur's state) Arthur, are you alright? What is it? (with growing panic) Are you ill? Did something happen to Lady Morgana? Arthur, answer me!
Arthur: (hugs Merlin suddenly)
Merlin: (too stuned to say anything) ...
Arthur: (Pulls Merlin closer to him, thinking) 10 years. You suffered my father's reign and then I made you still live in fear for 10 years.
Merlin: (red and still very concerned) Not that I'm not enjoying this gesture, sire. But, please, say something. I'm going to freak out.
Arthur: (pulls away gently) Nothing's wrong, Merlin. It just... seemed like you needed it.
Merlin: (confused) ... right. (Thinking) He must still be sensitive about Morgana. (coughs, trying to hide his red face) I have to... ehm... give Morgana her concoctions so...
Arthur: (playfully) Are you blushing?
Merlin: No.
Arthur: Your ears are red.
Merlin: They are not!😡
Arthur: Yes, they are. It's hard not to notice. They're as big as your face.
Merlin: Not as big as your fat ass!
Arthur: Have you been staring? 😏
Merlin: (even more red) I...😳 stop wasting my time, get out of my way!😡
Arthur: That's no way to talk to your prince, Merlin.
Merlin: Fine (with exaggerated courtesy). Your highness, my lord, sire, would you make me the enormous honor to remove your royal, pompous, supercilious presence out of my way?
Arthur: (laughs, but steps aside)
Merlin: Thank you, my lord. I'll be forever in debt with you. (Bows in mockery and leaves)
Arthur: (thinking, as he watches him leave) You chose to save Morgana with your magic this time. You shouldn't have risk it. But thank you. You won't have to suffer for so long this time. I'll create I world where you feel safe, you won't have to hide and be scared anymore. I promise.

Observations, surprises, and learnings
Mostly canon pairings: Almost everyone depicted canon romantic and platonic pairings. Only 7 romantic ships were non-canon pairings, and they each had only 1 work. Not a single one was gay! 😢 (Which is motivating me to finally write that Wentworth/Brandon fic for next year!)

Also, not a single work was submitted related to a modern Austen adaptation, like Bride and Prejudice, Clueless, or Lizzie Bennet Diaries. I’m not disappointed by any of this, just surprised.
Very few gifs: While I love the 4 new gifsets made for the event, I was disappointed there were only 4, considering how many Austen gifsets I see made for Period Drama Appreciation Week, for instance, and how popular Austen gifsets are on Tumblr. Next year, I will make a concerted effort to contact more gif-makers. (And if you have any you’d love to see join, tell them about this blog! I only just found out about @regencysource yesterday, curses!)
Creativity boost: Several people told me that this event inspired them to start writing again after a block, or post a fic for the first time, or finish a fic they were stuck on. This was so wonderful to hear that the event boosted creators in this way! It made me so very happy. ❤️
Prompt interpretation: My goal with the prompts was that they be somewhat Austen/Regency-specific but not the standard, obvious choices like balls, dancing, proposals, etc., because those wouldn’t be very inspiring since they’re so common already. It was a joy to see the different ways that people used the prompts. For instance, Bath the place vs bath the activity, or literally hunting animals vs figuratively hunting men. And even the folks who used modern AUs found ways to make the very dated prompts like cravat and calling cards work! Bravo on everyone’s creativity!

So, after making this post about how many fics each of the kiddads ship have, I thought it would be fun to look at some other statistics for them, namely the fics per author and distribution of fic lengths (which was suggested by @rebelfire)
Fics per Author
Methodology
I went to the individual tags of each ship on ao3, sorted by author, and then went through and counted how many fics each author wrote. This was much easier for any ship that wasn't Nark, which ended up having a total of 98 authors (help). Pseuds were included as one author, and anonymous fics were grouped together, since authorship is unable to be determined, same with orphaned fics unless there was a name attached. All results for ratios are rounded to 1 d.p. I used R to help me make histograms of the distribution of how many fics were written by individual authors, but because I'm using a continuous method to represent discrete data, the scales may be a bit off (I also couldn't remember how to change the scales)
Results
Glark had 30 authors, and 45 fics, making it a nice, neat and exact 1:1.5 author:fic ratio. The top three authors were keepquietplease (7 fics), Captain_Dogfish, and trustycustard (4 fics each)
Grannick had 19 authors and 26 fics, bringing it to roughly a 1:1.6 ratio. The author who wrote the most was newstarsong (3 fics), and there was a four-way tie for second place between keepquietplease, lyricsandlaziness, quinny_22, and spaghetticreature, all having written 2 fics
Terrick had 20 authors and 49 fics, which was exactly 1:2.45, but rounds to 1:2.5. The top three authors were Icelet (me!) (19 fics), Caution_Brain_on_hiatus, and JustABlah (4 fics each). Because there was such a big difference between between the most and second most fics written by one author, I also worked out the ratio without my fics, which was 1:1.6 (19 authors and 30 fics)
Guncontrol had the closest to an exact 1:1 ratio, with 8 authors and 9 fics. The ratio actually came out at 1:1.2 (or, 1:1.25 to be hyper specific), and the top author was travvymybeloved, the only one to write 2 fics. (Please ignore the decimals in the graph)
Terrow had 15 authors and 18 fics, also close to 1:1. It was exactly 1:1.2, which made me happy none the less, technically closer to 1:1 than guncontrol due to their smaller sample. The top two authors were stratocaster (3 fics) and trustycustard (2 fics). The graph for this is actually wrong, as I forgot to group an author's pseud with their main, so I will tell you that the distribution was 1 author who'd written 3 fics, 1 who'd written 2, and 13 who'd written 1.
Spant had 14 authors and 33 fics, making it a ratio of 1:2.4. The top three authors are AnOctoberPepper and keepquietplease (6 fics each), and lemonofthevalley (3 fics). A special shout out to the anonymous authors, who wrote 5 fics collectively - well done to this particularly secretive ship
Lovesong had 28 authors and 48 fics, giving us our highest ratio so far of 1:2.7, and the highest ratio of any ship that isn't Nark. The authors with the highest number of fics were kaseyskat, LorienLady, and the anonymous authors again, all with 5 fics
Granterry had 26 authors and 35 fics, giving it a ratio of 1:1.3, one of the lowest surprisingly. The author with the most fics was keepquietplease once again, with 5 fics. Fun fact, I suspect keepquietplease has written for the most kiddads ships, as they appeared in 7 out of 9 of the tags, although I didn't formally inspect this, so an extra shout out to them
And Nark had a whopping 98 authors and 472 fics, giving it the highest ratio of 1:4.8. Going through all of them by hand took me forever, which was not helped (/affectionate) by our top 3 authors, Gia279 (95 fics!!!), Kibbles423 (90 fics), and CalamityUnlocked (20 fics)
Because Gia279 and Kibbles423 wrote so many, I also worked out the ratio without their 185 combined fics, same as I did for terrick. Without the outliers, Nark had 96 authors and 287 fics, which comes out to 1:3.6, still the highest by a long mile. Also, shout out to stratocaster and litamaze for now making it to the top three, each with 17 fics. And this one even gets a new graph
Word Count
Methodology
This one was a lot easier thanks to Ao3's wonderful filtering system. I simply filtered for the categories shown in the table below and looked at how many fics were left for each ship. I did want to make box plots to show the distribution, but I couldn't quiet work out how to put multiple on one axis, so you just get the table
Results
Interesting, the 1 Spant fic that was equal to or under 100 was a podfic, and Terrow and Glark are the only fics to have drabbles or double drabbles other than Nark (drabbles are fics exactly 100 words, double drabbles are exactly 200)
I hope this has been a fun and informative post! The data was gathered from 2 days ago to today, so data should be correct as of posting this, but there may be one or two fics published during that I didn't notice and thus didn't include.
Remember, this post is first and foremost for fun, as well as being a little celebration of these ships and the authors who have put so much effort into writing these fics. It truly is astounding, and I hope this data becomes outdated and inaccurate soon

You sat on the back of an ambulance as one of the medics checked you out. You didn’t get hurt in the fight, but you didn’t realize you had ripped open your stitches until a medic was running over to you, asking if you were okay and pointing at the drops of blood. You denied them when they asked if you wanted to go to the hospital, you didn’t have time for all that, so they just stitched you up there and gave you a disapproving look.
“Gone up against Ghostface twice and game come out on top both times,” someone said. You looked up to see Kirby walking over to you. “Not many can say they’ve done that.”
“Seems like plenty have survived Ghostface,” you mumbled. Your eyes moved to focus on the figures behind Kirby. Sam was next to Tara as they were checked out by a medic and gave their statement to an officer. You took notice that the detective who was apparently on the case was the one person yet to be on the scene.
Kirby bobbed her head back and forth. “Not usually on their first encounter, unless they were running away or someone else showed up.”
“What the hell do you think you were doing?” Bailey shouted as he stormed up to you and Kirby. “You had a gun?”
“It’s licensed,” you snapped. “And it came in handy, would you like me to not have a weapon when a psycho is attacking us?”
Bailey scoffed and shook his head as if he couldn’t believe you dared argue with him. “Lot of good that did, he got away,” he gestured to the store.
“I got him, it’s not my fault you didn’t arrive in time.”
“Well, you didn’t finish the job,” Bailey snapped, as if it were your fault Ghostface got away. “Thought you were supposed to be special forces,” he scoffed.
You slowly rose from the ambulance until you were standing tall, staring Bailey down. “I’m a soldier, not an executioner,” you kept your voice steady but there was an edge to your tone, one daring Bailey to cross the invisible line.
Bailey let out a chuckle, as if he were truly amused you said that. “Your file isn’t even legible with how much is redacted,” Bailey stepped forward, puffing out his chest. “How many missions have you had involved you getting your hands dirty?” You clenched your jaw, he was trying to compare your missions to Ghostface, they were completely different, as a cop he should know that. “How many people have you executed without them even knowing you were there?”
“It’s different,” you said, your tone quiet as you tried to contain the rage underneath. You were aware of Sam’s eyes on you from where she still stood next to Tara, though she moved forward a few steps, as if she were going to come intervene between you and Bailey.
“Why?” Bailey chuckled. “Because those were your orders?”
You stepped forward, ready to give Bailey a piece of your mind when you felt a hand on your shoulder. You looked to the side to see Kirby, silently asking you to let it go. “Let’s all just take a breath,” she said, looking between you and Bailey.
“I got civilians dead because-”
“Because we haven’t got this guy,” Kirby snapped. She positioned herself in front of you, so she was now standing between you and Bailey. “So, why don’t we stop placing blame and catch this fucker.”
Bailey gave a little snarl but finally backed away. “I have a crime scene to work,” he mumbled as he turned and walked towards the store.
“When did you get the call?” You asked, your eyes tracking Bailey as he crouched down at the body of the store owner just inside the door.
“A thank you would suffice,” Kirby said when she turned around. The amused smirk on her face told you she wasn’t actually mad at you.
“Thank you,” you said sincerely anyway. “When did the call come in?”
“About twenty minutes ago. Someone saw Ghostface chasing after some people down the street,” Kirby looked back at the bodega. “Then several calls about shots fired came in a minute later.”
“Response was quick,” your eyes scanned all the cops working the scene. There was more than what would usually be considered necessary, but most of the officers were being used to hold back random people trying to get a look and the media.
“I was at the station.” Your eyes instantly snapped to Kirby. “I actually thought we might get here in time,” she let out a humorless chuckle. When she looked back at you, she furrowed her brow. “What?”
“Where was Bailey?” If Kirby was at the station, then there was no reason for Bailey to arrive as late as he did. All the other cops and Kirby arrived well before the detective who was supposed to be working the case, who claimed to care so much about the innocent lives being lost.
“I’m not sure,” Kirby shook her head. “Wait, you don’t actually think…” her voice got quieter with each word. “But you hit Ghostface.”
“Only in the chest,” your tone dropped to barely above a whisper. You didn’t know who to trust, you couldn’t risk anyone over hearing you. On top of that, just because you had your suspicions you didn’t have proof, you couldn’t be spreading rumors about Bailey if he wasn’t actually guilty, it could ruin his career. As much as you hated the guy you weren’t about to destroy a man’s career without evidence that he was dirty. “Whoever it was, was wearing Kevlar.”
Kirby followed your gaze and watched Bailey with the same kind of gaze as you. “They could have just seen the movies, learned to always wear a vest.” You nodded, that was likely, based on what little you heard it seemed like these psychos studied each other, trying to learn where the previous incarnation went wrong.
“Everything in me is telling me not to trust him,” you said.
“Better safe than sorry if you trust no one.” You looked at Kirby, watching as her eyes scanned the crowd, memorizing every face, just in case someone stood out or someone popped up again.
“Even you?” You raised an eyebrow.
You liked Kirby a lot more than Bailey. She’d done nothing but treat you with respect so far and you’d return the courtesy. At the end of the day though, you didn’t know her, you didn’t know any of them. Kirby hadn’t given you a reason to be suspicious of her but that didn’t mean she couldn’t possibly be involved. It was hell of a coincidence for Kirby to show up right after Ghostface attacked Sam, but she said she investigated Ghostface attacks, she knew Sam, they had a shared history, it was clear Kirby had a history with at least one of the previous Ghostface’s, like Sam and her friends did.
Kirby turned her head and looked at you, her eyes seemed to analyze you. She gave a little shrug. “Can never be too careful,” she said, nodding her head. “How much do you know about Ghostface, the attacks?”
You shrugged. “Not much,” you said. Of course, you knew the stories, everyone did, but you didn’t know the details. “I know the rumors whispered about Sam,” you looked across the way where Sam still stood with Tara.
“Well, I won’t say anything about Sam, that’s her story to tell.” You gave a ghost of a smile at that, you didn’t believe the rumors, you wanted to hear Sam’s story from herself. “But Ghostface is usually connected to the group of friends he’s going after. The first attacks were done by Billy Loomis and his best friend Stu Macher all to get back at Sidney Prescott, who Billy was dating.” You nodded, you were aware of that much of the story. “Me and my friends were attacked in 2011.” You furrowed your brow, you had been a freshman in high school, you probably heard people talking about the attacks in school but didn’t know any details.
You looked at Kirby when she didn’t immediately continue. She was clearly trying to remain composed but there were tears in her eyes, and rage underneath. “My best friend and the guy I liked were the ones behind the attacks. All because Jill wanted to be famous,” she shook her head and let out a humorless chuckle. “Of my friends, I was the only one to survive.”
You looked at Kirby in a new light, you understood now where all her pain and motivation came from. “I’m sorry,” you whispered. Those words wouldn’t do anything, but they were the only thing you could offer. It wasn’t easy being the only survivor, it was lonely, no one could quite understand it, you knew that all too well.
Kirby gave you a thankful smile. “I know why you didn’t finish the job,” she whispered. “But this kind of thing,” she shook her head. “It only ends in two ways, kill or be killed.”
You looked down, taking in Kirby’s words. You had done a lot of terrible things, things you never talked about. You did all of them for the greater good though, at least that’s what you told yourself, you were following orders, trying to stop someone bad from doing something worse. Killing Ghostface in self-defense was one thing but executing him when he was already down was another. It wasn’t like you hadn’t done it before, but those were always terrible people, terrorists, crime lords, people who did unspeakable things. You knew Ghostface wasn’t good but in your head, there was a separation, that being in New York, being home, it made things different, war was one thing, this was another altogether.
“Are you okay?” Kirby asked, bringing you out of your thoughts. You looked up to see Sam and Tara had approached.
“Now that we’re done with the endless questioning,” Sam grumbled.
“It’s just protocol,” Kirby gave her an apologetic smile.
“Are we free to go?”
“Of course.” Kirby looked back at you, “I just need your gun.” You let out a displeased sigh. “Protocol.”
“I know,” you said, still clearly displeased. You pulled out your gun, releasing the magazine and making sure there wasn’t one in the chamber before dropping it into the evidence bag Kirby held out.
You fired your gun, it was an active crime scene, and that meant your gun was evidence. Even though you didn’t kill anyone they still needed your gun to at least know which bullets were from you and which ones were from Ghostface, even though your 9mm was completely different than the shotgun Ghostface was using.
“Don’t worry, I will personally make sure the lab gets this,” Kirby said.
You watched her walk off. “Are you okay?” Sam asked, making you look at her. “Things with Bailey seemed tense.”
You rolled your eyes and looked around until you found Bailey across the way talking to one of the other officers. “Apparently he wasn’t satisfied with the way I handled things,” you said, glaring at Bailey.
“You saved our lives,” Sam said softly, you stopped glaring at Bailey to give Sam a grateful smile.
“Did you have a gun this whole time?” Tara asked, speaking for the first time since the attack happened. She was looking at you suspiciously, trying to appear strong with her arms crossed, but you could see the fear behind her eyes.
“Yes,” you answered honestly, you knew it would do no good to lie to Tara.
“Did you know?” she looked at her sister.
“Yes,” Sam said. Tara’s face morphed into one of hurt. “I thought it was better if no one knew, we don’t know who to trust.”
Tara clenched her jaw as she wordlessly nodded. “You could have told me.” Sam guiltily looked down as Tara stormed off.
You gently tapped Sam’s shoulder and offered her a small smile. She returned your smile and the two of you followed after Tara. You understood why Tara was upset, if the roles were reversed, you’d probably feel the same. On the other hand, the only reason you were able to get the upper hand on Ghostface was because no one else knew you had the gun on you.
The three of you walked back to the apartment without another incident. You noticed how Sam shoved her hands in the pockets of her jacket as you passed people, keeping her head down, probably hoping none of them recognized her. Three of you trekked up the various sets of stairs until you finally got back to the sister’s apartment.
“Where is everyone?” Sam asked as soon as she stepped through the door.
You came up behind her, peeking around her to see Ethan and Quinn were nowhere in sight. “Quinn is with a gentleman caller,” Mindy said, wiggling her eyebrows.
“Ethan left a little bit after you,” Chad said, not even bothering to look up as he mindless flipped through channels on the TV. “Said he had Econ.”
Sam rolled her eyes as she walked towards the kitchen, opening the refrigerator and pulling out a bottle of water. Tara flopped down in the chair next to the couch and you made your way to the far end of the couch, taking a seat next to Chad. A moment later Chad furrowed his brow and sat up straighter. You looked up to see he had stopped flipping through the channels and had stopped on the news. You furrowed your brow as well when you saw a picture of Sam pop up on the screen. Mindy plucked the remote out of Chad’s hand and turned up the volume.
“Ghostface is taking on New York,” the report said. “And the prime suspect seems to be Samantha Carpenter, daughter of the original Ghostface killer, Billy Loomis.” You looked to the side to see Sam standing in the doorway, her eyes filled with tears as she stared at the TV, trying to remain strong. “She is rumored to have setup her boyfriend, Richie Kirsch, in the killings last year.” Your ears instantly perked up at the name, it was the same name that popped up on Sam’s phone before the recent attack. “Right before killing him herself. Now-”
“Bullshit!” Chad snapped, aggressively pressing the power button. “They don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.” He slammed down the remote on the coffee table.
Chad jumped up from the couch and stormed over to the dining table where Tara was sitting next to Sam, Mindy following close behind. You watched as Sam curled in on herself, trying to make herself as small as possible as Tara tried to comfort her. You couldn’t hear exactly what they were saying, and you didn’t feel right about eavesdropping, they deserved their privacy. You decided to focus on your feet, as Sam’s friends tried to comfort her. You tried not to let what the reporter said invade your mind, you learned a little more about Sam, but you didn’t want to take the media’s word for it. Sam wasn’t a suspect, they already got that wrong, she was the victim.
You heard loud banging coming from Quinn’s room but didn’t think much of it as everyone laughed it off, seeming to go on as if this was regular occurrence. Everyone’s phones, besides yours, went off, shifting the energy in the room. You slid next to Anika, looking over her shoulder as she opened a message on her phone, showing a picture of Quinn being stabbed by Ghostface.
Everyone shot to their feet, the yelling from Quinn’s room got louder then suddenly stopped. Everyone gathered in the middle of the living room as they stared at Quinn’s door, waiting to for what would happen next. Before you knew it the door flung open and Ghostface tossed Quinn’s body out, which landed on Anakin, sending her to the ground.
“Go!” you shouted, pointing at the front door.
Chad grabbed Tara and yanked her out the front door. When Mindy tried to follow Ghostface slashed her across the arm and sent her to the ground.
Anika pushed Quinn’s body off herself and pulled herself to her feet. Ghostface was right there though, grabbing her by the neck and slamming her into the wall. He raised his knife, twirling it back and forth as he got ready to stab Anika. Without thinking you rushed forward and tackled him to the ground before he could stab Anika.
You punched Ghostface in the face, ignoring the pain that radiated through your knuckles with each hit to the mask. You grabbed his hand that was holding the knife and slammed it on the ground until he dropped it. You pushed the knife away before trying to stand up. As soon as you started to get off Ghostface he swung his legs around, tripping you and sending you back to the floor. He scrambled away from you as he grabbed his knife again.
He jumped back to his feet and stood over you, tilting his head as he waved the knife back and forth. You smirked when you saw Sam come up from behind him and hit him on the back of the head with a wood block of some sort. When Ghostface stumbled forward you kicked out your foot, tripping him and sending him tumbling to the floor.
Sam held out a hand to you and as soon as you took it, she yanked you up. While Sam was helping you, Anika helped Mindy up, then Sam ushered the three of you into the bedroom. She ran across the room and into the bathroom to lock a door while you slammed the door closed as soon as you got inside. Everyone rushed around the room, knocking over furniture and using anything to try and barricade the doors.
“Danny?” Sam asked, furrowing her brow as she looked out the window. You followed her gaze to see her neighbor waving his arms out his window as he tried to get someone’s attention.
Sam opened the window. “Are you crazy?” she called out. You made your way next to her to see Danny pushing a ladder out of his window. You helped Sam grab the ladder and stabilize it so everyone could crawl across.
“Go,” you said, nodding at Sam.
Sam looked back at Mindy and Anika as they tried to hold the door closed as Ghostface attempted to shove his way in. “But-” she looked back at you.
“Go,” you ordered, your tone leaving no room for argument.
Sam reluctantly got on the ladder and began making her way across. You ran to Mindy and Anakin, falling into place right beside them as you helped hold the door. “Your turn,” you nodded at Anika.
Anika shook her head, there were tears streaming down her face. You looked at Mindy for a little help and when she looked back at the door you assured her you had it. Mindy grabbed Anika and dragged her over to the window. Anika’s crying only got louder as she convinced Mindy to go first. Once Mindy was out the window and making her way across Anika turned back to you.
“Go!” you ordered again. “Go,” you gestured with your hand. “I’ll be fine.”
With shaky hands Anika lifted herself out of the window and began making her way across the ladder. Almost as soon as you loosened your hold on the door Ghostface plowed through, sending you falling to the ground. You recovered almost instantly and jumped across the bed when you saw he was making his way for the window, to Anika.
You grabbed the curtains and wrapped them around Ghostface’s neck before he could get his hands on the ladder. You pulled the curtain tighter, feeling his body spasm and kicked as he clawed at the fabric, but you were stronger than him. You caught a glance out the window, seeing Anika be pulled to safety. It wasn’t until you had him so close that you were confident this Ghostface was one of the ones from the gym, not the one from the bodega.
Ghostface stopped pulling at the cloth, but a second later you felt a sharp pain in your thigh. You gritted your teeth, suppressing a scream as best as you could. You looked down to see a knife sticking out of your leg before Ghostface ripped it out. You let go of the curtain, releasing Ghostface as you brought a hand to the wound.
You tried to stand up as straight as you could, but blood was gushing between your fingers. Ghostface recovered quicker as he whipped around and swung his knife down. You raised your hand, making sure the knife only sliced your forearm.
Your hand shot out, catching Ghostface’s arm before he could bring the knife down again. You ignored the blood running down your arm, you didn’t have time to worry about stopping the bleeding. While your other hand was still pressing against the wound on your thigh, Ghostface took his free hand and punched you in the side, right where your stitches were.
You let go of his hand as you brought your hand to your side, surely having ripped your stitches again. You ignored the others yelling for you as Ghostface brought down his knife again, this time when you blocked his arm with yours and brought your knee up, nailing him in the stomach. While he was doubled over you brought your good leg up and kicked him square in the chest, sending him tumbling over the side of the bed.
As much as you wanted to finish the fight you knew you were in no condition to do so. You limped over to the window and climbed out onto the ladder. When you looked ahead you could see Sam and Danny gesturing at you to hurry. You crawled as best as you could with one good leg and one good arm, ignoring the way the blood dripped down your hand, making the ladder and your hand slippery with each movement.
“Hurry!” Sam yelled; her voice strained. You looked up to see her eyes wide and not focused on you but something behind you. You glanced over your shoulder to see Ghostface standing at the window. He impaled the knife in the windowsill before using both hands to grab the end of the ladder.
You gritted your teeth; you were really starting to hate this guy. You continued to crawl, your grip tightening as Ghostface lifted the ladder, jostling it back and forth to try and get you to fall. You nearly lost your grip once, having to wrap your arm under the rungs and keep your body low so you didn’t go over the side.
You looked up, judging the distance from where you were to the window. You let out a shaky breath as you slowly loosened your grip, despite Ghostface still shaking the ladder with all his strength. You got into a crouch position and kicked off, ungracefully launching yourself off the ladder and at the window. You reached out, catching on the windowsill with one hand. You brought up your bloody hand, which instantly found the home of someone else’s. You looked up to see Sam holding onto you as Danny held your other hand and began to pull you up.
You made it through the window, instantly collapsing on the ground next to Danny. You looked back at him as he moved out from underneath you, his hands instantly going to your wounds to try and stop the bleeding. You couldn’t help but groan at the pressure. Sam helped drag you against the wall to prop you up. You let your head flop against the wall, you strained to stay conscious, focusing on Mindy’s voice as she called for an ambulance, and on Sam’s hands as they wrapped a scratchy cloth around your arm, trying to stop the bleeding.

You reach out with your free hand and spread your palm across his sternum, feeling the fierce shuddering there that matches yours.
His soul.
It is under the same stress as yours. He had said he could feel the sub-epidermal heat like you but had made no mention of this. Supernatural being or not, Morpheus is grappling with pain and it will simply not do.
Your eyes flick up, your decision made in the next heartbeat.
"I surrender."
Quicksilver flashes through those blackhole irises and with an exultant groan he sheathes himself within you.
You screw your eyes shut and cry out, amazed by how far he is able to push in before he meets resistance. Chapter Eight: The Guard and the First Word
The day had finally come—the day you and your husband could share Ji-ah’s first word with the guards. It had been nearly a week since Ji-ah had finally managed to say Dada, and her new favorite word had been echoing through the house non-stop.
But today, she would say it for an audience.
You and your husband had arranged a special meet-up at the training facility—mostly so the guards could experience the adorable chaos that had taken over your home. As usual, they had been asking about Ji-ah nonstop, curious if she was talking yet.
Today was the day.
You walked into the training room with Ji-ah nestled in your arms. Your husband was beside you, his hand resting lightly on your back as the guards gathered around. They’d been waiting for this moment with barely contained excitement, and the second they saw Ji-ah, their faces lit up like she was the most important thing in the world.
“She’s here!” one of the guards exclaimed.
“She’s growing up so fast,” another murmured, practically bouncing on their feet.
Ji-ah, noticing the sudden attention, giggled loudly and clapped her hands. “Dada!”
The room froze.
The guards stared, wide-eyed.
Your husband’s chest puffed out with pride. “Did you hear that?” he asked, his voice full of smug satisfaction. “That’s right—she said Dada first.”
The youngest guard’s jaw nearly hit the floor. “No way.”
You raised an eyebrow, smirking. “Oh, but it’s true.”
The oldest guard shook his head in disbelief. “I was sure she’d say Mama first. I thought for sure...” He trailed off, turning to your husband. “You bribed her, didn’t you? With extra food or something.”
“Not true!” your husband protested, throwing his hands up in mock offense. “She said it on her own. I didn’t even teach her.”
Ji-ah, oblivious to the adult drama, giggled again and waved her arms at the guards. “Dada!” she cheered.
One of the guards stepped forward, kneeling in front of her. “Hey, little one,” he cooed, holding out his hand. “Can you say Uncle?”
Ji-ah looked at him, then back at her father.
“Dada!” she shouted again, her face lighting up with excitement.
The guard blinked, utterly defeated. “Okay, okay. Fine. You’re definitely a Dada girl.” He grinned up at your husband. “Looks like she’s already chosen her favorite, huh?”
Your husband beamed. “I told you guys. You all doubted me!”
The guards chuckled, but there was a clear sense of admiration in their eyes. “I didn’t even know babies could be so... tactical,” one of them remarked. “She really knows how to work you, doesn’t she?”
“Oh, she’s got me wrapped around her finger,” your husband said with pride. “But I earned that first word. Right, Ji-ah?” He leaned down, pressing a kiss to her temple. “I’m your Dada.”
Ji-ah smiled up at him, as if in complete agreement, and then—totally unexpectedly—she added another word.
“Mama!”
The room erupted into laughter.
“Wait a minute!” one of the guards shouted. “You guys can’t just drop that on us and expect us to act normal!”
Your husband groaned dramatically, throwing his head back in feigned defeat. “This isn’t fair. I’m telling you, she’s doing this on purpose.”
You couldn’t help but laugh as Ji-ah looked back and forth between the two of you, clapping her hands with glee as if she knew exactly what she was doing.
“Mama!” she said again, and the room burst into giggles at your husband’s reaction.
The oldest guard grinned. “Alright, alright, she’s definitely playing both sides. I respect it.”
The youngest guard was practically beside himself. “She’s like... too smart for her own good. Is this how kids work?”
You shook your head, smiling at Ji-ah. “She’s not even one yet, and she already has you all wrapped around her little finger.”
Ji-ah squealed, then, as if to prove her point, reached out toward the youngest guard and said, “Dada!”
You couldn’t help it—you burst out laughing.
Your husband stared in disbelief. “She’s trolling me!” he shouted in mock outrage. “This is unbelievable.”
“You have been outplayed,” the oldest guard said with a grin. “There’s no coming back from this.”
Your husband threw his arms up in the air. “Alright, alright. I’m defeated. She’s the boss now.”
“Dada!” Ji-ah cheered happily, making everyone laugh even harder.
And in that moment, with the laughter echoing through the room and the guards gathered around, you couldn’t help but think—this little girl of yours had brought so much light into your life.
