If thereā€™s one thing I noticed in recent times when it comes to fan engagement with art and artists (TV shows, books, movies [franchises], etc.) is that a big factor in the downward spiral in media literacy and critically analyzing what we engage with is that a lot of peopleā€¦ feel sort of obligated to getting defensive for the specific things they like. And they assume any critique or criticism is a form of ill will or malice towards the piece.
Which I think is SUCH a terrible mindset to have when engaging with any piece of art or media, especially in a time where thereā€™s this general push for dumber downed media for the masses to consume and likewise less critical thinking. I notice a pattern where there are people that will give a million disclaimers about how much they love the media theyā€™re about to critique because they know the average fan will dogpile on them and assume itā€™s someone who doesnā€™t like the art thatā€™s critiquing it. Or I notice when a subsection of fans of a media start critiquing it, thereā€™s another crowd in the fandom that say ā€œif you donā€™t like it so much, then why are you watching it šŸ˜’ā€ even though thatā€™s not the case, the critiques come from a place of love. Thatā€™s not right, itā€™s not good to have this general consensus that to love something means to ignore or outright accept glaring problems in relation to it.
We as audience members, we as fans of a certain thing, need to be able to be ok with the fact that the shows, movies, books, etc. we enjoy might have some negative elements to it that we HAVE to be critical of. Sometimes the thing we dislike is something as small as a trope weā€™re tired of seeing. Sometimes the thing we dislike is a LOT bigger, though, such as questionable messaging subconsciously implemented due to the writersā€™ internalized bias.
And honestly THAT is what matters most to me when it comes to this type of thing.
Because EVERYONE is susceptible to the subliminal propaganda in a piece. You, me, your neighbors, your parents, kids, the elderly, everyone. And even moreso when we choose not to question or challenge the things in the media or art being fed to us.
Why? Because to just accept any glaring problems in (with the example Iā€™m typically using right now in this rant) a specific narrative purely because as a whole you like the story means that you are allowing that narrativeā€”and likewise other narratives youā€™re bound to consume and internalizeā€”make the decision on your thoughts and the decision on your principles and moral compass.
To combat that you have to do as I stated above: challenge those attributes of the story or art or whatever that are relaying questionable messages. Even if you, generally speaking, really like it.
QUESTION why that creator will depict women, or POC, or disabled ppl, or queer ppl, or another marginalized identity in the certain way that they do. QUESTION why a creatorā€™s art relays a certain commentary on the systems of fascism, or capitalism, or the patriarchy, or police brutality, or any other oppressive system. Especially because this art and these stories we engage with donā€™t exist in a vacuum: what came before it to lay the foundations was experiences of the creator, what was there alongside its creation was the creatorā€™s personal principles and ideals, and what comes after it is the impact it will leave on minds and ideologies it will spread.
I dunno, I say this because I enjoy critically analyzing the stories and the art that I love. I will watch a TV show or read a book and I will connect with a lot of aspects of it, I will love it, I will recommend it to others. However, I will also have long conversations with fellow fans (usually friends) about the pitfalls, I will take note of certain aspects of the story that were questionable choices, and I will view it with a critical eye. And maybe itā€™s just because Iā€™m a writer myself, but I feel like being that nuanced and careful with how you view the art that you love, to praise AND critique it, is in itself a form of love or passion for the art.
And I really wish more people understood that? Especially when it comes to art, things arenā€™t black and white. They are allowed to be good and bad at the same time. Characters are allowed to be likable but also horrible people. And I feel that having this mindset of ā€œI like it therefore I see it as perfectā€ is a very, VERY dangerous one to harbor.

Usamericans should be more anti-war actually. They should be straight up insulting marines and shutting down weapon factories, 60s anti-war protests kind of shit. I'm sorry for pontificating from down here but the US military-industrial complex is currently supplying a genocide, and this is not a new thing, the US has sold weapons to Saudi Arabia to starve millions of Yemenis, the Iraq war, the Afghanistan war, these are within memory. And though some people think it's not the point, it Is also true that there are trillions upon trillions of dollars that could be spent in anything else that go to the black hole of corruption (and call it for what it is, corruption) that is the Pentagon. Any of those resources could be destined to literally any other activity and be better spent.
I'm talking full contempt here. You should outright be HATING the military. Instead of lining up to watch Top Gun you should see it as a glorification of a fucking killing machine that serves imperial interests, enriches megacorporations and supports genocides. For the love of God be more angry about it. Goddamn.

since Eng is getting 7.5 soon(?), I felt motivated to go back to my Meleanor rig and make her a couple of lesson animations! ...except for alchemy, because the cauldron bubbles proved too hard to photoshop around, whoops.
maybe she just got lost on her way to the classroom...?

DDxDC The More The Merrier
Exactly a year after Talia brought Damian to Bruce, she shows up again. With another child. That looks like a carbon copy of Damian. She introduces him as Danyal, Damian's twin that was in an undercover mission for the last few years.
Bruce's eye twitches, but he deals with it. At least it's not a clone - Damian proved his mother's words to be true, Danyal really is his twin brother. So the Bats are just kind of forced to accept the fact. And the kid.
Danyal is a literal fucking menace. Contrary to Damian, he doesn't stab or bite, but he is absolutely chaotic. And, in addition to that, he has zero self-preservation instincts. None of it. The only two people in the family he has a truce with are Cass and Steph. Cass, because he has yet to take her by surprise, and Steph, because she is his partner in crime. Tim, though, Tim is on the verge of going insane with two little assassin bats running around the manor.
A year later, on the anniversary of Damian and Danyal's arrival, Talia shows up again. With, you guessed it, another kid. This one is a bit older - sixteen or so - and he has an angry glare that can be compared only to Jason's on a warpath. Dante, he calls himself, and the Demon Twins narrow their eyes on him. Bruce knows this look intimately. Sibling rivalry at its finest.
The next year is full of said sibling rivalry, performed by three highly skilled assassins. Dick is constantly worried one day one of them will die, and not because of a Rogue attack. The kids are fucking wild, acting like rabid dogs on steroids. They destroyed a wall once by throwing Dante through it. Alfred gave them a lecture. It didn't help.
The next year, Bruce opens the door to Talia even before she rings the doorbell. He looks at the four-year-old girl that looks like a mirror image of Damian, Danyal and Dante, and asks, tired and defeated:
"How many more?"
Talia only smiles. The girl looks at him with big, innocent puppy eyes that don't fool Bruce anymore.
Tim, who watches the scene through the surveillance cameras in the Batcave, pulls up a file and starts drafting his last will.

As much as i love Dungeon Meshi, i do think that given Ryoko Kui's attention to realistic worldbuilding there ought to be a companion series called Dishes Meshi where they spend 2hrs washing and drying and packing away. Alll the goddamnfuck dishes they just made

The S1 Archives main staff was composed entirely of people who (at least partially) liked men. I choose to believe the OIAR will continue the trend of being equal but opposite to the Archives by having the entire S1 main staff like women.

i really donā€™t think itā€™s ā€œtypical dragon age fandom nonsenseā€ for people to be genuinely upset about the world state choices. combat, level design, art direction, gameplay gimmicks, those have all varied across each dragon age game. the one thing thatā€™s remained constant are nods to our previous choices.
i wasnā€™t expecting my HoF to come riding in on a griffon, but i canā€™t find a monument dedicated to warden tabris somewhere around the anderfels? lucanis couldnā€™t have some lines about the time that one arainai boy was stirring up trouble in antiva city? youā€™re gonna tell me that making a mage the new divine wouldnā€™t have some impact on nevarra and antiva? on the anderfels, the supposed most devout militant andrastian nation in thedas? youā€™re saying nobody in the north is paying attention to who rules orlais or ferelden? come on.
#dragon age#yes iā€™ve seen john eplerā€™s explanation on only wanting to carry forward choices that they could ā€˜really do something with.ā€™#and i understand what heā€™s saying and iā€™m curious to see how those 3 choices they brought forward will impact the story!!#but iā€™m still disappointed. and i think telling people why they shouldnā€™t be disappointed is just gonna make them More disappointed.#also donā€™t really appreciate dev comments like ā€˜careful what you wish for with cameos. it just gives us an excuse to find new and horrific#ways to kill your faves teehee šŸ¤šŸ¤ā€™ like okay???????? what???#alistair came back twice & could be fine both times. loghainā€™s inquisition cameo was so meaningful because who the hell expected to see him#again? leliana can straight up die in origins and yall brought her back anyways. like what are we doing out here.#also when i think of ā€˜typicalā€™ nonsense for this fandom itā€™s people doxxing each other over fictional character opinions. or what#fictional side your fictional inquistor took in the fictional mage-templar war. or just plain old racism.#NOT ā€˜damn itā€™s fucking upsetting that this excited replay iā€™ve been doing of the previous games and all the recommending iā€™ve been doing#for new fans to play the other games before veilguard has turned out to be pretty fucking pointless.ā€™#might as well tell someone to watch a letā€™s play of trespasser and thatā€™s it.#11/26 in a hater mood so iā€™m turning rbs back on lol. go forth & be petty
