pairing : gf!se-mi x fem!reader | genre : angst, hurt, romance for 1 second, drama| warnings : hurt, eavesdropping, self-doubt + insecurity, implied emotional neglect. | summary : Se-miâs apartment had always felt like home to youâuntil you overheard her conversation with Min-su The words cut deep, shattering the sense of belonging you thought you had. Heartbroken, you leave without a word. | wc: 1,174 | authors note : guys i have something to say.. i fucking LOVE gabby also do yall fw the new layout?
if you enjoyed likes or reblogs would be amazing! feedback is appreciated also requests are open!!
Se-miâs apartment had always felt like home to you. Maybe that was your mistake.
Your hoodie hung on the back of her chair. Your toothbrush sat next to hers in the bathroom. Your makeup cluttered the counter, your perfume lingered in the air. Every little thing made it seem like this was your place too, like you belonged there just as much as she did.
But you didnât. Not really.
Not after what you heard.
It was supposed to be an ordinary nightâone of many spent by her side. You had been talking, laughing, feeling the warmth of her attention. But when you went to grab a drink, you stopped in your tracks at the sound of her voice.
âNo, Min-su, youâugh. You just donât get it. Sheâs just⌠how do I say it? Too clingy.â
Your heart stopped.
Min-suâs voice was hesitant. âNoona, donât you think thatâs a bit rude?â
âI know it sounds rude and stuff, but she acts like a fan. Sheâs obsessed with me! Name one time she lasted a week without sleeping over at my house. Almost all her clothes and makeup and shit are at MY place! Why canât she justâI donât know? Min-su, I already have a lot on my plate right now! I donât need a clingy girl just hanging around my apartment like she lives there! Sheâs always coming without my permission and shit! Sheâs too much, sheâs annoying, she alwaysââ
You didnât stay to hear the rest.
You turned on your heel and walked out before you could hear another word.
Did she really think that?
Like a fan? Like an overbearing nuisance?
Tears welled up in your eyes, but you swallowed them back. You couldnât fall apart here, not in front of people, not when you needed to move.
You hailed a cab and went straight to her apartmentâthe apartment that was supposed to be your second home. And the moment you stepped inside, you saw just how much of yourself you had left there.
Clothes in the closet. Shoes by the door. Your favorite mug in her cabinet. Your books on her shelves.
God. No wonder she felt suffocated.
For the next hour and a half, you packed. Every little thing that was yours, you shoved into bags. One by one, her apartment stopped looking like yours and started looking like hers again. When you were done, there were four full bags of your belongings sitting by the door.
It finally looked like Se-mi was living alone.
Just like she wanted.
You stood there for a moment, forcing a smile despite the way your heart ached. You were being ridiculous, right? You were clingy. You were overbearing. You had practically moved into her space without asking. This was your fault, wasnât it?
Your phone buzzed.
You looked down and saw her name flashing across the screen, dozens of unread messages filling your notifications.
âY/n? Baby? Where are you?â
âY/n, where did you go?â
âBaby, this isnât funny.â
âYou said you were just getting a drink. Where are you?â
âIâve been looking everywhere for you. Please come back.â
âDid you go back to the apartment?â
Your grip tightened around the phone. How ironic. She was acting worried now, like she hadnât just been complaining about how much she wanted space from you.
You didnât answer. You couldnât.
Instead, you walked.
The 30-minute walk back to your own place felt longer than ever. By the time you got home, exhaustion weighed on your body, but the ache in your chest hurt more. You took a shower, scrubbing yourself clean, washing away the scent of her that still clung to you.
And then you lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.
Tears slipped down your cheeks, silent but unstoppable.
Did she ever love you the way you loved her?
Was it all just too much?
The buzzing of your phone woke you at 1 AM.
More texts. More missed calls.
âY/n, why didnât you tell me you left?!â
âWho picked you up?â
âWhyâd you take your stuff? I was fine with it being here.â
âY/n, just please tell me how youâre doing. Iâm really worried.â
âPlease, babyâŚâ
âY/n⌠Iâm confused about all of this. You left the party randomly, then you took all your stuff back. Whatâs wrong?â
You laughed bitterly through your tears. What was wrong? Really?
You stared at the screen for a long moment before typing.
âI heard you.â
And then you turned off your phone.
You needed to change.
You needed to be less.
Less clingy. Less needy. Less overbearing.
Even if it hurt, even if it meant suppressing everything, you would do it.
If it would make Se-mi happyâ
If it would make her stop seeing you as a burdenâ
If it would make her love you againâ
Then you would.
Even if it broke you.

Posting my original review of this fic now that I have access to it!
SHUT THE FUCK UP RIGHT NOW THIS IS SUCH A GOOD READ. Obviously as a resident mythology/theology nerd I was so excited to read this and I finally sat down to do it and I am SO HAPPY that I did. I immediately was kicking my feet at the thought of God of the Sea Chan basically settling down in a little cute boardwalk aquarium and living a quiet little life. LikeâŚ. literally that is the perfect character choice for someone who has lived so long and who used to be a god, just sort of deciding that the small things and running this little aquarium is enough. Like I cannot express how much that decision was so fucking perfect.
The imagery in this is so !!!! I was literally in love with it. I loved that I could picture them in this little beach town and the places their eating with all this very specific decor and I could almost picture the aquarium - Jess this literallllyyy is so descriptive and wonderful I am kicking my damn feet.
Do not get me started on this Chan. He is so charming and I love how heâs sort of just this quiet figure to his staff who is like standoffish but very polite and kind and has this aura about him and reader comes in and is like actually no youâre evil akdijsofoisej like something about that is so funny to me. I adored that right away I was like OHHHHH they have a history - theyâre sensing their past selves and !!!! that literally made me insane.
I donât know I just fucking loved this so much. As soon as I got to the dream section with Amphitrite I about threw my laptop because I realized OHH itâs literally his WIFE!!! That is your WIFE!!!! SIR!!!
Okay Iâm done yelling I just really fucking loved this. And I also LOVED the end - there is something that feels very very very accurate that a god of the sea sort of vanishes to go find answers just like - super untamable and very hard to catch and sheâs like sike I will actually follow you for a lifetime oseifjsoija Iâm so ill this was so good I loved this goodbye.
as wild and untamable as the sea | l.c
pairing: greek god!chan x reincarnated sea nymph!f!reader genre: angst, romance, smut | reincarnation, fantasy, greek gods!au rating: explicit, minors DNI word count: ~15.8k warnings: mentions of past unhealthy relationships, (possibly inaccurate) greek mythology, lots of POV switches (but i don't think it's confusing) mentions of eating, explicit smut, multiple sex positions, unprotected sex (just don't), slight edging, overstimulation, fingering, oral sex (f. receiving), chan is strong and very in control, i think that's all but let me know if it's not
summary: Chan remembers everything. Every little thing that's happened to him since his days as one of the twelve Olympians. Poseidon to be exact. Even though he tries not to think about it now that he's living in modern times running a sad little aquarium, some memories are more vivid than others. Then, you stumble into his life and he can't explain the draw. You can't seem to figure out how this man is keeping an aquarium like this running when it seems like it's not that busy. Something about him really seems to put you off, despite the fact that he seems drawn to you. None of it makes any sense...until it does.
a/n: this is for the 13 Gods of Olympus collab that @beomcoups & @wooahaeproductions have been tirelessly working on. thank you so much for hosting this! i know this isn't the end for this couple, but i really needed to get this out into the world. if you want to know what happens next with them, let me know.
a/n 2: this is semi-unedited and i'm just throwing it out into the world but i'll come back. if you see anything glaring, no you didn't!

Another day, another dollar.Â
Wasnât that what the humans said about another day spent working at some mindless job? Despite all the years heâs spent blending into their world, Chan still doesnât really understand the humans. Doesnât really understand why they put up with so many things they seemingly hate. Doesnât really understand why they waste their short lives on something that makes them miserable. But, in fairness to the humans, Chan has also never had to worry about the trivial things that come along with working like money, possessions, or a home. When youâre one of the original gods of Olympus and life is seemingly infinite, money isnât really an issue.Â
Thatâs who Chan was in another lifetime: Poseidon. The God of the Sea, among other things. At least, until Olympus fell. A painful thought that he usually tries to push from his mind.
In the early days after Olympus fell, Chan still went through life acknowledging who he was. He leveraged his powers for favors or for payment. He used his control of the water and everything in it to get him what he needed. But, the years went by and the Olympians became the stuff of myth. Of stories. The kind of characters that you read about in books. Only the most eccentric members of society continue to worship the Olympians as if theyâre real. Which they are, Chan reminds himself. Or, they were. As the faith faded, so did the Olympiansâ belief in restoring themselves to full power. One by one, they gave up the task of finding a way back until it was only Chan and Zeus left. Two of the brightest minds of Olympus. Even they had to admit their own defeat.Â
Which leads to the present day. Chan has taken on a new persona, for theâŚwell, heâs lost track of what number this one is. Heâs just thankful for his ability to shapeshift into someone new whenever he needs to. Takes a new name every time, too. At first, he tried to keep in touch with his siblings and the other Olympians. That, too, fades over time. Itâs been at least a century since heâs spoken to any of them. Though, occasionally, heâll catch wind of something through the chattering of local sea creatures. Something that says at least some of them are still out there.
Chan sighs. Thereâs really no reason for him to be wandering down memory lane in this way. He thinks, not for the first time, that maybe he needs to pick a different cover job. One that will keep his mind a little more occupied. The reality is, though, heâs tried nearly everything he could think of over the centuries. Changing professions is a frequent occurrence when he doesnât want to let his body show too many signs of age. Not that he minds, itâs just that people start to ask too many questions about how heâs handling things someone âhis ageâ shouldnât be able to handle. In the end, working with sea life has always been the best. And this set up, where heâs running a smaller aquarium off of some long forgotten boardwalk in an area that doesnât get much traffic, is also great. It isnât even that Chan doesnât like being around people. He finds humans entertaining in most senses. Itâs just that nothing in this life is permanent for him. Heâs not going to fall in love and grow old with someone. Best to just keep things at armâs length.Â
Most days are more or less the same and Chan works the majority of them. On the rare days off, heâs not far away since his little house is within walking distance of both the aquarium, the boardwalk itâs on, and the water. He trusts the limited staff that he has because he pays them well. Better than any other similar business, but he values loyalty. And they donât seem to question how heâs able to make things work. That is largely due to the anonymous donors that make monthly contributions to the aquarium. Really, itâs just Chan funneling money that heâs earned over his many years on Earth so that he can keep a business afloat. Nobody seems to have anything to say. Beyond the staff not asking questions, they are all very good at their jobs. It makes life easier for Chan that way because he doesnât have to micromanage them. Everyone knows what theyâre supposed to do and will only ask questions if they hit an actual block. No, the aquarium runs very smoothly. It just doesnât get a lot of business.
Since every day kind of blends together, Chan almost never realizes as days or weeks or even months pass by. Heâs in a sort of autopilot where he also knows what he has to do and just does it without question. Itâs just rinse and repeat day in and day out.Â
Until itâs not. Until the first day that he notices you in his small, out of the way little aquarium. Until the day that everything starts to change.
Youâre not really sure what pulls you in for the first time. Youâve probably passed this sad little aquarium dozens of times without giving it a second thought. Then, one day, you decide that you might as well go in. The cost of admission is incredibly reasonable, but you think thatâs probably why you havenât gone sooner. It might seem counterintuitive. You just wonder how well the animals can be taken care of with such a low cost of admission. Youâre not sure if you can handle seeing animals mistreated. Still, thereâs no going back now. Even with the outside seemingly a little poorly cared for, you still find your feet pulling you forward.Â
Youâve never been more wrong about anything in your life.Â
The dingy outside gives way to a vibrant inside thatâs teeming with love and light. The art on the walls is carefully curated to match the different areas of the aquarium. There are workers with genuine smiles going about their days. Even the animals seem to be happy. Itâs also deceptively large on the inside. It makes you wonder why it looks so run down from the outside. Surely, someone that cares this much about the animals could care a little more for the outside as well. Maybe thatâs the point. Why waste money on an outside nobody really cares about when it can go to the best care possible?
Almost immediately, you feel a sense of peace wash over you. Just this morning, you were ready to explode from all the stress in your life. Now, stress feels like the furthest thing from your mind. In fact, you canât even remember what you were stressed about. Strange. This is the first time you remember a single place erasing any sort of worry. Just as youâre about to consider that the place holds some kind of magic, you realize that not everyone seems to be as at ease. A mother scolds her child and an elderly couple bicker. It breaks a little bit of the illusion, though you still feel calm.Â
Subconsciously, your feet carry you to the area with the sea otters. They have always been some of your favorites, even if theyâre not the typical sea resident that people think about. As you watch on, two chase each other around the enclosure. They seem like they must be young with the way they canât seem to stop playing. Itâs incredibly endearing to watch. Another, slightly larger, otter emerges from around a bend and the original two quickly dip under the water to shoot off. It almost seems like a mother scolding her children, but maybe youâre creating too many stories within your own mind. Your imagination, especially around sea life, can be a bit active.
A few minutes later, a worker comes out and starts feeding all the otters. Theyâre quick to come and get the food, showing just how many there are. You werenât expecting to see such a large population in this off-the-beaten-path aquarium. The man feeding them looks young, but thatâs true of nearly everyone that youâve seen here. They all look young and entirely too pretty. This man is no different. Heâs sporting a very blond, shaggy semi-mullet that doesnât look like it could possibly be his natural hair color. Yet, it looks remarkably believable on him. When you frown at the amount of food heâs giving to the otters, he walks over to the side of the enclosure and leans on the railing close to you. He tosses a bucket of crab legs out into the water and the otters go crazy for that. It seems an odd choice for animals living in captivity, but what do you know?Â
âDid you know,â the man begins, âthat sea otters eat 25% of their weight in food every day?âÂ
Well. That certainly explains it. âI didnât.âÂ
âI like to give them the crab legs too because itâs a fun little activity for them,â he carries on with a smile. âItâs also something theyâd eat in the wild.âÂ
âThat seemsâŚexpensive,â you say carefully.Â
The man only smiles bigger. âOh it is! But our boss has really great donors for the aquarium and we can afford to feed them well.âÂ
âWell, then the otters are definitely lucky,â you note and turn back to the otters.
âWe all are. Chan takes care of us just as well as all the animals that live here,â he says.Â
âChan?â you ask.Â
âOh, our boss,â the man carries on happily. âIâm Soonyoung, by the way.âÂ
You take his extended hand and give your own name in response. Soonyoung happily carries on with telling you all about the otters they have, including the name of each one. Then he offers to take you on a tour of the aquarium because of your interest. Itâs too nice of an offer to turn down. It also further proves that you should not judge a book by its cover. Every inch of the aquarium is so masterfully cared for and every living being seems happy. That is, if a fish can also seem happy. The tanks arenât overcrowded or dirty. And, you canât explain it, but you can just tell theyâre happy. Each person that they encounter seems to genuinely love their job. Youâre not even sure why youâre paying such close attention. Or why you care so much.Â
Truthfully, thereâs always been something of a call to the ocean. A peace that comes over you when youâre near the water. It was enough to get you to move cities, figuring that would satisfy that need. The pull only got stronger. Plenty of people feel at peace surrounded by water, you reason, and donât think further on it. You donât consider that worrying about the conditions in an aquarium may not be normal. Donât consider that most people donât start getting moody when theyâve been separated from the ocean too long. Donât consider that it really is only the ocean. Although sometimes a freshwater lake, when itâs big enough with plenty of fish in it, will fill up your cup, it never lasts as long. It also never works to alleviate your mood when you do something as simple as going into the pool.Â
The trip around the aquarium with Soonyoung seems like exactly what you need. Until suddenly, it doesnât. As heâs taking you through an exhibit area, a young man appears from behind a closed door marked as Staff Only. Heâs got a dress shirt on with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows. His short dark hair highlights striking features. And, you think, he would be beautiful if it werenât for the frown on his face. He looks entirely too serious for someone so young. Heâs also much more dressed up than anyone else at the aquarium.
âOh, there he is!â Soonyoung exclaims, causing the man to turn towards the two of you. His face softens a bit at seeing Soonyoung before studying you somewhat quizzically.Â
âSoon,â he says with the air of someone exasperated at Soonyoungâs antics.Â
âThis is Chan, our boss,â Soonyoung carries on and your eyebrows fly into your hairline as he introduces you to his boss.Â
Truthfully, Chan looks younger than Soonyoung in some ways. But, thereâs a wisdom in his face that your new friend lacks. Like heâs lived a hundred lifetimes already. It catches you off guard. But, Chan extends his hand to shake yours and thatâs when you feel it. A sudden surge of annoyance that lasts only as long as your hands are connected. If he feels anything, he doesnât show it. His smile is friendly and it only confuses you further.Â
A moment later, Chan excuses himself from the pair of you and Soonyoung leads you away to continue the tour. You canât really shake the odd feeling you got from the handshake, though. When Soonyoung concludes his tour, you ask about opportunities to volunteer. Thereâs something about this place that feels like home and youâre not really sure what it is. Soonyoungâs face brightens.Â
âChan doesnât believe in volunteers. Even if you only come in once a month, he pays you for your time and obviously waives the entrance fee so you can come visit even when youâre not working,â he says with a bright smile.
âOh, I donât need a jobâŚâ you start before he waves you off.Â
âLeave me your contact information and Iâll pass it on. He coordinates everything himself and he can go over it all with you. Iâm sure heâd be happy to have another animal lover around here,â Soonyoung says with a smile that you canât ignore. You just met this man, why are you already incapable of saying no to him?Â
âDo you have some paper?â you ask.
Chan spends the rest of the day thinking about you after a simple handshake. Then, when Soonyoung tells him that youâre interested in helping out, his pulse races in a way thatâs entirely foreign to him. He canât remember the last time a human turned his world upside down with something so seemingly trivial. In fact, he was so focused on keeping his face neutral, he didnât notice the look on your face in response to him. Heâs too concerned with seeing you again to consider anything else. Too consumed by the need to unravel whatever mystery there is to you that he canât seem to place. Honestly, Chan canât remember the last time he felt anything even approaching this. Nothing makes him really feel in this way. Not anymore, at least. He finds himself counting down until your first shift.
Until it actually gets here, that is.Â
You report to Chanâs office, just as he asks. He holds his breath as you cast your eyes around his office area. Wonders what youâre thinking when your gaze lingers on certain things within the office. For a second, Chan considers whether it seems human enough. Itâs been nearly a year since anyone new joined the staff and he wonders if heâs gotten sloppy. Nothing in your face seems to give any sort of feeling away. It surprises Chan a bit that he canât seem to read anything about you. When your eyes rest on him, he sees a flicker of something he canât place. Something that looks an awful lot like annoyance.Â
He confirms it when his hand accidentally grazes yours to hand over your new ID. It says volunteer since you insist on only being there when you have the time, but itâs a full ID anyway. Thatâs just how Chan does things. When his hand meets yours briefly, he gets the sharpest flash of irritation heâs ever felt. Itâs confusing because it is definitely not his own emotion that heâs feeling. And thatâs not something that Chan can remember happening before either. Not like this at least.Â
Chan has powers, he knows that. He can, sometimes, tune into the emotions of others. Itâs easiest when heâs trying to tune into a sea animal or someone at home in water. Back before Olympus fell, he was able to tune into the emotions or even the minds of all the creatures in the sea, like the sirens, sea nymphs, merpeople, and everything else you could imagine. Even then, he usually has to actively try to tap into those emotions. Itâs not something that justâŚhappens. Not when all heâs done is let his hand graze someone elseâs. Not when heâs not actively trying to feel something. It shouldnât be something that happens with a mere human, either.Â
You, for your part, donât seem to realize thereâs anything out of the ordinary. Your face looks the same. The same annoyance that youâre trying your hardest to mask under a poor attempt at indifference. Trying to shake it off, Chan calls for Soonyoung to come into the office. But, that doesnât make it any better. Itâs worse, really, because your face immediately changes into one of genuine happiness. Soonyoung seems just as happy to see you and happy at the prospect of showing you around. To be fair, Soonyoung always seems happy when thereâs someone new around for him to chat with. Still, your face lighting up for him frustrates Chan in a way he canât explain.Â
Your first few times volunteering at the aquarium go really smoothly. Well, once youâre handed off to Soonyoung, itâs smooth. Thereâs just something about your new boss that you canât really put your finger on. Seeing him causes annoyance to flare within you. Itâs something deep that you canât really explain and canât recall feeling before. Thereâs no reason for you to dislike this man. Heâs really just a man, which shouldnât be enough on its own. Whenever heâs around, heâs perfectly friendly. Itâs obvious that he cares deeply for every living thing within the aquarium. This is something heâs incredibly passionate about, which should endear him to you. Yet, it doesnât. You canât recall ever disliking a fellow animal lover until now.Â
Thankfully, you donât really have to deal with Chan very often. Soonyoung handles your training when youâre working, but everyone that works there seems kind. And everyone seems young. The place is full of bright-eyed 20-somethings who all genuinely seem to want to be there. It contributes to that little nagging feeling in that back of your mind that something is justâŚoff. Not with anyone that works there apart from Chan, though.
Soonyoung seems delighted to see how quickly the otters warm up to you. Apparently, they can be a bit picky with new people. But, the first time you meet them, they all flock to you instead of their normal handler. Anyone else might be frustrated. Instead, he only thinks itâs cute that they seem to love you. Tells you that he thinks he means you're a good person. Apparently, he often judges people based on how the animals react. You both have that in common. It only seems to reinforce the point when this happens with each new enclosure you go to. None of the animals seem to treat you like a stranger. Itâs more like theyâre greeting an old friend. You canât really explain that you feel the same way. Your brain periodically supplies a story for some of your new animal friends, too. Itâs not the first time itâs happened and you figure it only makes sense in this setting. Your imagination is active and you love the sea creatures.
Each new visit to the aquarium seems somehow better than the last. Well, in most ways. You often feel Chanâs gaze on you before you even look over at him to check. And each time he is actually looking at you. Thereâs something that just sets your nerves on edge about it. Even the animals around you seem to react to the sudden surge of anger that courses through you. Itâs a strong physical reaction without any clear reason that you can figure out. Yet, itâs the way you feel every time you sense his attention on you.
âYou good?â Soonyoung asks, eyes cast down at your hands balled into fists.Â
âYeah, sorry,â you apologize, turning back to him. âWhat were you saying?âÂ
âWhatâs going on with you and Chan?â he asks skeptically.Â
âBetween Chan and me?â you ask with clear surprise.
âYeah,â he says. âHe spends half the time youâre here watching you andâŚâÂ
âHe does, doesnât he?â you ask, a little too loud. âWhatâs up with that?âÂ
âWhatâs up with your hatred for him?â he asks instead.
âI donât know, I just get a bad feeling,â you say after a moment. âDo you like him?âÂ
âDo I like the boss that overpays me to hang out with animals all day?â he asks with a laugh. Then, he looks at your face and carries on. âOh, youâre serious. Yeah, I love Chan. None of us really know him that well because he keeps his distance from the staff outside of work, mostly. But, heâs the best boss I can imagine having. I donât ever get bad vibes off him.âÂ
âHuh,â is all you say before turning back to whatever Soonyoung is teaching you.
Your eyes catch on the mysterious aquarium owner once again and that anger flares. But, you realize that itâs something more complicated than anger. Itâs far too complex an emotion to put a name too and definitely too complex for someone you barely know.Â
Itâs just odd you think, not for the first time, that someone seemingly so young is running an aquarium that doesnât seem to be that busy. How is he affording to take care of the animals and pay his staff so well? How is someone that seems so unlikeable able to convince so many donors to give money when it could be better spent elsewhere?
The nagging voice in the back of your mind reminds you that you seem to be the only person that doesnât love Chan. Everyone on the staff seems to love him. The few donors his staff have met also seem to only have good things to say. You have to consider the possibility that your feelings about him could be personal or that youâre seeing something that doesnât impact anyone else. Itâs still weird, though. Nothing about this business model should work. Is that a reason to hate someone you donât actually know? Youâre not sure.
Chan speaks with a dolphin that heâs grown to trust. No, not Chan. Poseidon. Heâs Poseidon again, in all his glory. And heâs asking the dolphin to find someone for him. Heâs explaining where she might be and what to say to her when the dolphin finds her. Stressing how important it is that the dolphin is the one to find her because theyâre not the only ones looking. There are others looking as well and Poseidon doesnât want them to find her. It would be bad, he knows, if anyone but himself or someone working on his behalf were to discover the truth. Heâs protecting her as much as heâs protecting himself. At least, thatâs what his brain insists. Whether itâs true or not, wellâŚ
The scene blurs and shifts. Poseidon is once again by the sea and this time speaking to a giant squid instead of the dolphin. The squid tells him that the woman has been found. That the dolphin succeeded and is currently speaking to her. That brings Poseidon a small sense of relief. Surely, when she understands the situation, sheâll be not only willing to come home but happy to do so. Nothing can keep them separated any longer. They are truly meant to be.Â
Again, the scene blurs and shifts. This time, Poseidon sits on his throne, trident in hand, while one of his brotherâs messengers kneels before him. When she rises, she delivers the message that Zeus has requested for Poseidon and his bride-to-be to join himself and Hera for an upcoming event. Thatâs not good, Poseidon thinks, not good at all. Surely his brother isnât fully aware of the situation and yet he sends his messengers with invitations like this. Just as Poseidon prepares himself to make an excuse, the door to the room opens. Usually, he doesnât allow interruptions, as his guards well know. But, the sight of his love walking through with her head held high keeps him from scolding the guards. He cannot believe that sheâs back and walking in as if nothing happened. As if it hasnât been weeks since they last saw each other. He got word she was coming back, but had not dared to hope for this.
âIâm so sorry to interrupt, my love, but I heard your brother had sent an invitation,â she begins. The messenger wonât notice the hesitation or the emotions that pour off of her because she doesnât have that gift. Poseidon feels it, though. It doesnât put him at ease
âItâs fine. You are always welcome to hear anything shared here with me,â he says quickly.Â
She turns to the messenger with her signature soft smile. âI would still apologize for interrupting your message. However, I heard that you were here with an invitation. I fear that my darling may have declined as I was recently suffering an illness.âÂ
âYes, that is what I was about to do,â Poseidon agrees.
âThere is no need for that as I have told you that I am feeling much better now,â she says with a brief, but calculated, smile at Poseidon. She returns to the messenger. âPlease inform Zeus that we would be delighted to join him.âÂ
âI am thankful to hear youâre feeling better and toâŚsee you with my own eyes,â the messenger says slightly suspiciously.Â
âI am also thankful that I will get to see Hera. After all, we have so much to discuss with the upcoming wedding,â his bride-to-be says.Â
With pleasant goodbyes, the messenger takes her leave and Poseidon excuses the guards remaining in the chamber. He indicates that his bride should follow him to a much smaller room off to the side so that they can speak. After all, there is so much to discuss after her running away and only to finally return. Yes, she had indicated to the messenger that she intended to go through with the wedding, but Poseidon needs answers. He needs to know why she left and to impress upon her that she could not do something like that again.Â
Chan wakes up in the early hours of the morning in a cold sweat from the most vivid dream heâs had in centuries. The fact that a dream lingers at all is strange on its own. He doesnât dream. Not anymore, at least. When he does, the subject is usually something inane and the remnants of it are gone by the time heâs fully awake. This dream is both vivid and lingering, seared into the back of his eyelids like it may never leave him. Perhaps it is because itâs not just a dream.
Thereâs a lot to Chanâs past that he wants to forget and for good reason. When he was one of the gods of Olympus, he made a lot of decisions that he wouldnât make now. Or, he likes to think he wouldnât make the same decisions now. Itâs hard to remember the feeling of the weight of the world so many years later. But, he knows he did a lot of things in the interest of finding the greater good. Something that ruined some of his closest relationships and clearly still haunts him today.Â
Which leads him to this dream. A dream of Amphitrite. The legends about the gods of Olympus over the years have gotten a lot of information both right and wrong. Unfortunately, the legend of Poseidon and Amphitrite seems mostly right, at least to Chan. She was the one true love of his life. The only being in the entire universe that he actually wanted to spend an eternity with. And he had not treated her the way he should have. Hadnât appreciated her and respected her autonomy the way he should have. Thatâs something he thinks about now, as he continues to mature and evolve to understand all the mistakes he made once upon a time. He knows that the way he tried to hold onto her was wrong and that he worried entirely too much about what the other Olympians would think if he lost her.Â
Thereâs also a part of him that lingers on the way she looked in the dream. He remembers that conversation because it actually happened. But, heâs not sure if heâs actually remembering the way she looked or the way he felt a tightness to his chest. That could just as easily be him looking back on the interaction through a different lens. There are so many things he wishes he could go back and change with her. So many things he wishes he could say. Mostly, even though he loved her more than he even loved himself, he wishes he could go back and give her the chance to walk away. To leave him without any sort of reprisal from the other Olympians.Â
After all these years, he regrets how their relationship went. It wasnât love when someone didnât have options. He knows that he canât change the past. He knows that he canât even ask for forgiveness. Itâs part of why he keeps himself from getting too close to anyone now, he thinks. As a sort of penance for forcing the only one he ever loved into a marriage that he canât say that she wanted. Of course, she told him when she came back it was because she wanted to. Insisted that she was just nervous to be thrust into such a spotlight by his side. Says that she was worried because he had other relationships with other people and she saw how it affected other Olympians, like Hera with Zeus. That wasnât who she ever wanted to turn into. Chan took her at what she said. It was only after he lost her that he realized it may not have been the truth. Their love may not have been the great story that he created in his head.Â
He knows that he wonât be able to fall back to sleep, so he resigns himself to starting his day. After he gets ready, he sits down with a cup of coffee and his schedule for the aquarium. Today is the once per month visit from the local marine veterinarians. Although miraculously, it seems the animals never need much care, the vets still come in every month. They collect samples and run their tests to ensure that everything is going well as a general health study. They have staff that come over more frequently for some of the animals that need more consistent care. Itâs also an excellent place to study since Chan allows them such complete access.Â
That monthly visit isnât what really catches his eye. Your name is on the schedule and Soonyoung has you listed as the person who will be working with the vets to make sure they have the help they need. Itâs standard, really, and Chan knows Soonyoung will be around as well. That man can never ignore a chance to chat with anyone that comes through regularly. Chan also knows that Soonyoung trusts you. Thereâs just something about your name that sends his stomach lurching without an explanation. Sure, you havenât exactly been the warmest in the interactions with Chan, but youâre good at the jobs assigned. Itâs like thereâs something just on the edge of his consciousness about you. Something just out of reach. A connection that he should be able to make and canât. At least, not yet.Â
Even though heâs going to be very early, he sets off for the aquarium and tries to shake the feeling that thereâs something about you he should see. Heâs never been very good when he canât solve a problem. You may present his most complex puzzle yet.Â
Itâs one of the best days since you first started volunteering at the aquarium. Somehow this is the first time youâve gotten to see the vets there for a full day and it even makes you extend your own shift. Well, itâs partially influenced by Soonyoungâs offer to buy dinner if youâre still there when he gets finished. Mostly, though, youâre just fascinated watching the vets do their work. Itâs interesting to see how willing the animals are to be still for tests and how it seems like they know what to expect. You know that animals are smart and they can learn. Thereâs something a little different about this, though. Not only do they seem to actually see the veterinarians, but they also actively wait their turns to be seen.Â
At the end of the day, youâre a little tired and feeling very accomplished at the same time. Maybe all of Soonyoungâs energy is actually infectious because you find that youâre ready to go get dinner with your friend after work. His presence is somehow calming to you even in all of the chaos. Once you make sure everything is done, you change into the spare clothes you have with you. The last thing you want is to smell like fish and whatever else got on you over the course of the day. Then, you go to find your friend.Â
âHey, are you ready for dinner?â you ask without realizing that heâs standing with Chan.
âYou guys have plans?â Chan asks with curiosity, looking from you back to Soonyoung.
Soonyoung looks incredibly apologetic. âIâm so sorry, but I completely forgot that itâs roomies night in and I canât skip it because I missed the last one.âÂ
âOh, thatâs fine,â you say quickly and wave it off.Â
âYou should come! We always have a bunch of appetizers and stuff. I canât remember what movie it is tonight, but itâll be fun!â he says, as enthusiastic as ever. âI know I offered to buy dinner tonightâŚâÂ
âI appreciate it, Soonie, but I think Iâm just going to get dinner and go home,â you say. âIâm going to hold you to your dinner offer, though.âÂ
âI was actually just about to go get something to eat myself,â Chan interrupts and you narrow your eyes. âI would be happy to get dinner for you as well as a thanks for everything youâve been doing here.âÂ
âI donât want to makeâŚâ you start, only to have Soonyoung cut across you.
âThatâs so nice of you, Chan,â he says and turns to you. âYou should go! Heâs got the best taste in restaurants. I still think about the last time he took all the staff out.âÂ
âItâs really fine, I can just get something on my way home,â you say.Â
âI insist,â Chan says with something unreadable on his face. âPlease. Let me say thank you for jumping in so completely.âÂ
âYeah, what reason could you have to say no?â Soonyoung asks with a smirk. Thatâs the other thing about your new friend. He can be such a shithead when he wants to be. Of course heâs using this to needle you about your dislike of the boss. It comes up at least once every time youâre at the aquarium (and plenty of times when youâre texting outside of work).
You sigh, knowing that thereâs no easy way to get out of this. âOkay, let me just get my things and Iâll meet you at the entrance.âÂ
The walk from the aquarium to Chanâs favorite restaurant is outwardly quiet. Itâs not entirely uncomfortable to walk in silence with you. Or, it wouldnât be if your emotions werenât screaming into the silence. The general annoyance that seems to be present any time Chan is in the same space as you comes through loudest. Thereâs more now that itâs just the two of you outside of work now, too. He feels a kind of anger and distrust coming off of you along with confusion about why you feel any of these emotions. It takes time to separate that as your own confusion because Chanâs also confused. The two of you barely interact at work and yet your distaste for him rolls off of you in violent waves, like an angry ocean. Itâs the only time heâs felt something like this from someone at work. Everyone else seems to like him at the very least. Something about you is very different.Â
Thankfully, itâs harder for Chan to sense you once you get into the restaurant. Itâs a little busier since itâs a weekend, but you still get seated right away. If youâre impressed with how Chan greets the staff like old friends, you donât show it. Just sit down in the chair and accept the menu with a smile before disappearing behind it. Suddenly, this doesnât really seem like the best idea. What does it matter if you donât like him?Â
âYou donât like me,â Chan announces a second later. He never has been able to let a mystery go unsolved. Heâs also always prided himself on being able to work out a puzzle. He tries not to ever be as arrogant as his brother, though.Â
That makes you peer across the table at him. When he thinks youâre not going to answer, you blurt out: âNo, I donât,â and seem genuinely surprised.
Chan chuckles and looks back at the menu. âAt least you admitted it.âÂ
âI really donât know why I just said that,â you carry on, setting your menu down.Â
âIs it not true?â Chan asks.Â
âNo,â you say and that makes Chan raise his eyebrows. âI mean, it is true. I donât really like you. Iâm just not sure whyâŚâ
âWhy you said it? Or why you donât like me?â he presses.
âBoth,â you say with a shrug.Â
âCan I ask you something?â he wonders.
âYou can,â you say. âIâm not gonna promise to answer if I donât want to.âÂ
âThatâs fair,â Chan says with a smile. âWhy do you volunteer at the aquarium if you donât like me?âÂ
âI like to be around the animals,â you say immediately. âI feel at peace.â
âYou misunderstood part of what I was asking,â he says. Your eyes are wide. âWhy not let me pay you if you donât like me? You could be making money instead of offering your time for free.âÂ
That actually makes you laugh. Not a fake polite laugh, one of the real laughs he hears when Soonyoung gets you going. Itâs a beautiful sound and it instantly reminds Chan of something. Or someone. Heâs not really sure beyond wanting to hear it again.Â
âYouâre kind of funny. Iâll give you that,â you concede.Â
âIâm glad you think so,â he says, eyes still glued to you.Â
âI donât know why it doesnât feel right to take money for working at the aquarium. It just doesnât,â you shrug. âItâs the first time in my life that Iâve ever really felt like I was where Iâm supposed to be and I probably sound crazy saying it. But, I get to the aquarium and my brain gets quiet and itâs like a weight lifts off my chest.â
âYou donât sound crazy,â is all Chan can say for a second.Â
Heâs looking at you differently now and heâs not even concerned if you realize it. Itâs like something clicks for him. Like he finally pinpoints what it is about you. Of course he didnât realize at first. Itâs so unbelievably uncommon that he never thought to look. But, thereâs no denying it. The way you are around the aquarium, the way you seem to slot in like youâve been there all along, the way he can read your emotions without trying.Â
This isnât your first life. Heâs only seen it a handful of times since Olympus fell. The main gods of Olympus, like himself, were able to seek refuge on Earth. Other beings were not so lucky. Many managed one or two reincarnations, but more still justâŚceased to exist. Itâs something he and some of the others spent a lot of time working through in the beginning. Itâs been over two hundred years since Chan came across a reincarnated soul. Yet, here you are. Sitting before him. Thereâs no mistaking it. Once upon a time, you had been a sea nymph in Olympus. Everything clicks into place when he acknowledges that. He knows the sea nymphs as well as he knows himself. It seems impossible that he wouldnât recognize all the signs and mannerisms. Then again, he hasnât come across a reincarnated sea nymph in a very long time. Centuries.Â
âAre you okay?â you ask after a few moments.Â
âYeah, sorry,â he says and shakes his head. This isnât the place to try to process this. âI just havenât met anyone that could relate to the way I feel in a long time.âÂ
âYou donât think Iâm crazy?â you ask, voice thick with hope. Itâs the first time heâs been around you without feeling any negative emotions.Â
âNot at all,â he assures you. âI should have known that you understood as well. I felt like you were a kindred spirit, butâŚâ
âIâve been cold?â you offer with a light laugh.Â
âCautious, I would say,â he disagrees.Â
âMaybe we should just start over,â you suggest and that makes Chan smile.Â
Dinner actually gets much livelier from there on out. Realizing your past allows Chan to entirely change his approach. Without saying anything before youâre ready, he lets his guard down. In doing so, he hopes that some part of you will realize the connection runs deep. It seems to work, even if itâs only a little. Curiosity becomes the most prominent emotion and he capitalizes on it.Â
Chan is able to suggest some of the dishes that he really likes before you ask if you can just get a few things and share them. Youâre asking questions about the aquarium and his life that he tries to answer in a way that sounds honest without inviting follow up questions. Instead, he finds himself wanting to know more about you. Despite your initial reluctance to talk too much about yourself, he gets you to open up to his questions. Each answer you give draws him in further. Gives more of a glimpse into you as a person. Nothing feels too small to learn. He wants to map each of your reactions to things you actually love to things that seem difficult to speak about.Â
Before either of you realizes it, itâs been over two hours and the restaurant is starting to wind down. Of course, nobody rushes you since Chan knows everyone there by name. But, you still insist itâs probably best to head out. Surprisingly, heâs still only picking up on warmer emotions from you now and maybe that makes him a little bolder.Â
âThereâs this really great ice cream shop just a little walk that way,â he says as youâre exiting the restaurant.Â
The sideways look you give him leaves him wondering if heâs misread the situation. Then, youâre smiling like you know a secret. âIâm shocked you eat dessert.âÂ
âAre youâŚare you checking me out?â he splutters. Very little manages to catch him off guard and you have him stumbling over a simple question.Â
Without answering, you just laugh and start walking in the direction he indicated. When he doesnât immediately follow, you look over your shoulder and call out to him. âWell? I thought we were getting ice cream.â
âYou canât just say shit like that and expectâŚâ he starts as he hurries to catch up with you.
âExpect what?â you ask, actually poking out at his side. âI would bet my entire life savings that Iâm not the first person to check you out.â
âOh, so you were checking me out,â he says like heâs just won.Â
âI think thatâs only fair with how many times Iâve already caught you checking me out,â you fire back, effectively wiping the smug look of Chanâs face.Â
Itâs been a long time since someone challenged him the way you seem to. Now that youâre talking openly, it feels like heâs known you for years. Thereâs a comfort that he canât remember feeling in centuries. It feels like you just implicitly understand a piece of them that he tries to hide in any other situation.Â
Something whispers from the back of his mind, like a tickle of familiarity. He ignores it, though, in favor of getting to know the incredibly interesting person before him that doesnât seem to hate him anymore.Â
After having dinner with Chan, you start to look forward to your shifts for an entirely different reason. Yes, you still get the peace that comes along with being around so many beautiful animals and so much water. You also get to feel the pleasant shift of feelings when Chan is around. Instead of feeling like something gnaws at your consciousness, now you feel a warmth coursing through your body. Itâs a little strange, too, because itâs like nothing youâve ever felt before.Â
Soonyoung notices the way you and Chan gravitate towards each other now and says nothing despite the knowing smile. You donât have to ask him to know that he thinks itâs down to him insisting you get dinner together. He doesnât comment, though, and youâre not going to give him the satisfaction. Itâs hard to stop yourself from smiling, even when that makes Soonyoung smile even harder. Itâs like he wants all the details of something that you donât have many details on. At least, not at first.Â
Hanging out with Chan outside of the aquarium becomes a regular thing, even on the days that you donât go in. Each of you shows the other your favorite places in the area and you find yourself looking forward to that time more than anything else. Once or twice, you even consider asking Chan if heâs got a more full time position for you at the aquarium. You donât quite realize youâre not living fully until something like this happens and so much more of life opens up before you. For now, though, youâll settle for dragging him to a couple of food trucks that you love. He looks entirely out of place in his slacks and dress shirt, though at least heâs rolled up his sleeves.Â
âSo when are you going to come work with us full time,â he asks after sitting down with his food in front of him. He doesnât ask you to work for him. Even his phrasing is considerate.
âOh, well, IâŚâ you stutter out.
âYou donât have to, of course,â he assures you. âIâve just never met anyone thatâs better at it than you and youâre not even there that oftenâÂ
âI have been considering it,â you admit.Â
âWhatâs holding you back?â he asks.Â
You take a bite to give yourself a minute to think about the answer to that. What is holding you back? Admittedly, youâve never felt more at ease anywhere else. Itâs increasingly harder to leave every time your shift is over. You look forward to when the next one will be. Have even added extra shifts when you can fit them in. Thereâs a part of you that also looks forward to seeing Chan. Although, you know that you could see him whenever you wanted. He always seems to make time for you.Â
âI donât know,â you finally say.
âWell, thereâs a position waiting for you if you ever want it,â he says with a look on his face that you canât quite read.Â
âWhy are you so patient with me?â you ask.
âBecause we understand each other,â he answers a little too quickly.Â
âItâs more than that,â you press, feeling, for the first time, like heâs keeping something from you.Â
Chan sighs and sets his food down. âIt is, but this isnât the place to discuss it.âÂ
That catches you a little off guard. Thinking that there was more to the story and having him admit it so easily were two different things. âYouâre not secretly in love with me or something, are you?â
He laughs at the look on your face and it eases a little of the tension. âI donât think itâs a secret that I love being around you.âÂ
âNo, I guess thatâs true,â you say with your own laugh.Â
âYouâre going to think Iâm crazy, but Iâll tell you when we finish eating and we can leave. This kind of thingâŚwell, itâs best to say to you somewhere thatâs not so out in the open.â
That announcement surprises you, but it also excites you a little. Itâs difficult not to rush through dinner, a fact that Chan picks up on and laughs about. Makes a joke about wanting to get him alone that has color rising on your cheeks. Thereâs an air of confidence about him despite whatever heâs going to share with you. It makes it a little easier for you to also be calm because it canât be that bad. If it were bad, he would not seem so confident.Â
After dinner, and a short back and forth, he takes you back to his apartment, which includes walking by the aquarium. Somehow, youâre still much more nervous than he seems to be. It seems like the most natural thing in the world for him to invite you back to see where he lives. He also seems quick to assure you that itâs not that heâs trying to get you alone. It just needs to be a space that is actually private.Â
Despite any better judgment you may have, your curiosity is piqued. What is it that he has to say to you that others canât overhear? Is he about to admit some crazy belief? Or tell you that somehow you were destined to meet? Youâre not really sure what sort of comment might come once the two of you are alone, but youâre distracted the second you step into his apartment. Itâs amazingly decorated. It feels both cozy and modern at the same time. It also feels so impossibly like him and the ocean combined into one. Maybe thatâs saying the same thing. He does give you the impression of the water sometimes.Â
Being inside of Chanâs personal space also feels surprisingly natural. He disappears off into the kitchen without a second thought and allows you to look around the space. When he returns, itâs with a drink for you as he encourages you to take a seat on his couch. Itâs the most comfortable couch youâve ever sat down on.
âHow much do you know about the Gods of Olympus?â he asks without any preamble. Thankfully, you havenât taken a drink yet. Otherwise, you might have spit it out.
âLike the stuff from mythology?â you ask. Itâs so unexpected.
A little voice whispers in the back of your head asking if itâs really that unexpected. The truth is: youâve always been incredibly fascinated by the myths. Thereâs a draw to them almost to the point of getting lost in them. But, are you going to admit that youâve read all the books you could find and watched all the shows or movies? Itâs only fantasy, really, when you think about it. Youâve bared a lot of your soul to Chan without meaning to. Youâre not sure you want him to laugh at you about this. That same little voice comes back to ask if he would laugh. Youâre not so sure.
âNot exactly,â he says with a knowing laugh. âYou consume it though, donât you? I can see it on your face.âÂ
âI - well, lots of people do, donât they?â you ask noncommittally.Â
âNot like you, Iâd bet,â he answers, unbothered.Â
âI guess itâs a bit of a guilty pleasure,â you finally admit.Â
âI think itâs more than that,â Chan presses.Â
âHow can it be? Theyâre just myths after all,â you say.
âDo you believe that?â he asks and itâs like heâs challenging every one of your long held notions.Â
âChan, what did you want to tell me?â you ask.
âLet me tell you about Olympus as I remember it,â he says.Â
âAs youâŚremember it,â you say slowly. âChan, whatâŚâ
âJust hear me out and let me tell you a story. You can decide afterwards if Iâm crazy or if it makes everything fall into place,â he says.Â
And he does tell you a story. Itâs a story about the Gods of Olympus with more information thrown in than youâve ever read in any story or seen in any movie. Itâs at once more fantastical and somehow more believable than anything. There are parts that you recognize. Parts that seem to line up with the stories. And there are parts that feel entirely new. Parts that are deeply emotional and clearly difficult for Chan to say. You delight in the way his face lights up when he talks about the parties or living amongst the sea animals. Completely accept it at face value when he tells you about how his scouts used to be dolphins and how much he misses that. Your heart breaks when he talks about the fights with his siblings and the other Olympians. It all feels like youâre walking along beside him in his stories.Â
Itâs insane to think that any of this could be real. You keep telling yourself as you listen to the stories. But, itâs hard to remember that when you see the look on Chanâs face. Thereâs fondness when he talks about some of the sillier memories. Like he canât believe that anyone was ever that ridiculous. Thereâs genuine pain as he tries to get through the more complicated parts. When it comes time to tell you about how Olympus fell, he chokes up.Â
You believe him. Itâs like something shifts and you can tell that heâs not crazy. Heâs not delusional. Heâs not on some crazy conspiracy theory. He was Poseidon once upon a time. The feelings of calm that you feel every time you walk into the aquarium wash over you. Like this is the only thing thatâs ever made sense. That should be a little disorienting to take in all that information. Instead it feels like the most natural thing in the world.
Chan isnât even done talking when you lean over and press your lips against his. Youâre not even sure why you do it or if itâs the right thing to do. When you go to pull away, he puts his hand behind your head and holds you against him. Kisses you breathless like nobody has ever kissed you before. It feels instantly familiar and new all at the same time. Like something you may have done before. But, it also sends sparks flying through your entire body.Â
âSo, should I carry on with telling you how you fit into all of this?â he asks when the two of you break apart from the kiss.Â
âMe?â you ask, still recovering from the impulsive act of kissing him.Â
âYes, you,â he says with a soft smile.Â
âIâm just a person lucky enough to meet an actual god, what could IâŚâ you start.
âYouâre not just a person,â he contradicts with a frown.
âIâm not trying to diminish myself or anything,â you assure him, but he still shakes his head.
âCan I talk?â he asks without any exasperation, though you may deserve it. You just nod. âYouâre not just a person. YouâreâŚwell, Iâm not sure how it works, really. Iâve come across it so infrequently. You have the reincarnated soul of a sea nymph within you. Possibly even one I encountered in another life.âÂ
âHow can that be?â you ask with wide eyes. âNo, Iâm just a normal person, IâŚâÂ
âIf you think about it, it actually makes perfect sense,â he says and carries on.
It sounds so simple when he outlines it for you. He asks you about your connection with the ocean, talks about your instant familiarity with the aquarium and how at peace you feel. Points out that you never feel at peace in a swimming pool, though youâre sure youâve never said that to him. He talks about your mood shifting when youâre away from the water for too long or the way that everything about the water just seems easier. He even laughs when you admit that once when you were on vacation, a dolphin came right up to you in the ocean and seemed like it wanted your attention. Itâs also not the only time something like that happened.Â
Everything starts to fall into place. Itâs like decoding the last little cypher of your life up until that point and showing you memories in a different light. You wonder if youâll be able to remember anything from being a sea nymph and Chan looks apologetic when he says he doesnât think itâll work like that. But, he admits heâs never gotten close enough to another reincarnated soul like this to fully be able to answer it. The excitement drowns out a small voice in the back of your head thatâs urging you to move cautiously. Urging you to consider if all of this really sounds right.Â
You canât really help the way your bodies seem to be drawn to each other. Many more kisses follow now that the invisible barrier seems broken. When heâs not kissing you, Chan runs his hands along whatever part of you that he can reach.Â
Eventually, you donât really want to talk. It seems absentminded, the way that Chan runs his fingers along your arm or squeezes your thigh. Itâs driving you insane, though, and you need to know if heâs feeling as bothered as you are.Â
âHow much are you paying attention to this conversation?â you ask.
âUhâŚâ he says, eyes widening a bit at the question. Itâs the first time heâs looked remotely out of control.Â
âYouâre driving me crazy,â you whine and look at his hand gripping your thigh.Â
That causes his look to change entirely. Heâs not out of control anymore. Now he looks a bit smug. âOh, Iâm driving you crazy?â
âYes,â you admit without a second thought.
âI thought you werenât even sure if you liked me?â he presses and you huff out a breath.
âI already kissed you, Chan. I think itâs clear Iâm not on the fence anymore,â you say.
âMaybe I should show you my bedroom,â he says and stands.
You take his outstretched hand without hesitation. âFinally.âÂ
The two of you get through the doorway into his bedroom and he doesnât even bother pretending to give you a tour. He only turns around to face you, crowding your space and forcing you back into the doorframe. He takes your face in his hands and kisses you hard. Itâs not desperate, itâs perfectly controlled. Nobody has ever kissed you like this before. At least nobody that you can remember. His body presses tight against yours until youâre gasping for breath. Still, he doesnât let you relax. Heâs proving a point. If you thought he was driving you crazy earlier, itâs nothing to this.Â
You gasp into his mouth when he moves a hand to hitch one of your legs around his hip. Gasp again when he does the same to your other leg and heâs balancing you against the doorframe. It seems impossible that heâs this strong. Maybe thatâs part of being a god because he also barely seems to lose his breath as he keeps kissing you. Youâre not usually so content to let someone else lead, but itâs so easy with him. It helps that nothing is frantic. Even though heâs driving you crazy, you love that it doesnât feel rushed. Love that heâs really taking his time with you.
It could be minutes that Chan kisses you or it could be hours and youâre not really sure if you would know the difference. When he sets you down, it feels like an immediate loss. At least until he pulls you towards the bed. Only his eyes give away how badly he wants you. Theyâre dark with lust that youâre sure your own eyes reflect back at him.Â
âIs this still okay?â he asks, voice thick with desire. You nod. âI need to hear you say it.â
âYes, Chan. I want this,â you assure him.Â
Thankfully itâs the only reassurance that he needs. He gently pushes you back onto his bed and immediately gets to work pulling your clothing off you. His eyes drink in every mark on your body and for the first time, youâre not self conscious. You donât feel like thereâs something wrong with you and it has nothing to do with the way he looks at you. Though, it doesnât hurt that his desire only grows as he peels your clothing off. No, thereâs just this inexplicable comfort with him. That voice in the back of your head quiets. Youâre not sure if itâs because youâre so in the moment or because this is actually right. Youâre not really sure it matters.Â
When Chan steps back from you, you have the briefest moment of insecurity. Itâs gone the next moment when he starts to undo the buttons on his shirt. Actually, your entire mind goes blank. If Chan was beautiful with clothes on, itâs nothing to seeing him removing his shirt. You know that he can change his appearance at will and know that itâs how heâs fit into places this long. So, you know that it might not be entirely him, but youâre not sure you care. Your eyes travel over the scars he still has. Probably remnants of real scars over the years. Somehow the imperfections make him more perfect in your eyes. Youâre so caught up in looking at the scars that you miss him removing the rest of his clothing until heâs approaching you.
âSit back,â he instructs.
You do as he asks without even thinking twice about it. That, at least, makes a voice stir in the back of your mind. Makes you wonder why youâre so content to do as he asks. When he climbs onto the bed and settles between your legs, the voice goes quiet again. He peppers up your leg and down the other with feather light kisses. He doesnât draw out the build up, though.Â
Chan runs a finger carefully through your folds and it makes you shudder. He watches your body carefully as he does it again, like heâs trying to map your reactions to everything. Like he wants to know exactly how to make you come undone. Itâs such a simple action that works you up. When he licks into your pussy, you think itâs your new favorite feeling. It makes your entire brain go fuzzy. You donât even realize that youâre arching your back until one of his hands snakes up your stomach to press you back into place.Â
Itâs almost too much, the way he works you over. Heâs constantly changing the pace and his movements. His mouth moves up to suck on your clit and his finger moves down to pump into your pussy in lazy motions. The contrast of the movements makes you squirm. When you feel like youâre getting close to an orgasm, he switches it up again and pulls you back from the edge. Over and over again. He keeps switching up his attention every time you feel yourself getting close.Â
âChan, oh my fucking god,â you groan. âIâm going to die if you donât let me come.âÂ
âWell, you got one thing right,â he says, pulling away from your pussy. âI am a god.â
âI hate you,â you say without any heat.
He pulls himself up your body so that heâs hovering over you, entirely too close. You can see the way your juices cover his lips. He eyes you greedily and itâs the hottest thing in the world. Itâs even hotter when he lets you pull him down on top of you and kiss him. You moan into his mouth when he ruts his hard length against your thigh.Â
When he pulls back, you know that you lost whatever game youâre playing. âDoesnât seem like you hate me.âÂ
âJust please fuck me,â you say, completely breathless.Â
âAnything you want,â he says.Â
You gasp when he leans forward again to capture your lips in a bruising kiss. Everything about him seems so in control. Yet, you can feel how much he wants you, too. Itâs obvious that youâre not alone in wanting this and that heâs just better at controlling the situation.Â
Somehow, as heâs kissing you, he manages to spread your legs apart underneath him. Itâs embarrassing the way you chase his lips when he pulls back. Or it would be if you didnât meet his eyes to see all the desire reflecting back at you. He repositions so that heâs between your legs again and lines himself up at your entrance. Chan runs his tip through your folds while he watches for your reaction. Itâs all you can do to stop yourself from wiggling to urge him to work faster. Nothing he does is fast, though, and why would this be any different. Slowly, he presses himself into you. Even as youâre begging him for more, he inches into you instead of snapping his hips forward.Â
Finally, after what seems like minutes (and is probably only seconds), heâs fully buried and itâs the best feeling in the world. Your fingertips dig into his shoulders as he adjusts his position. Then, he pulls almost all the way about before snapping back in and your mind goes blank again. Like nothing else exists apart from the two of you, the sound of his skin on yours, and the words shared between you. Praise spills from Chanâs lips as youâre just asking for more and more of him.Â
This time, he doesnât bring you right to the edge only to pull you back. He picks up his pace and has you coming so hard that you see stars without warning. Youâre so thankful that you donât immediately realize that he doesnât pull out of you. He stills himself inside you and peppers gentle kisses all over your face as you work through the orgasm.Â
Heâs definitely not so gentle once the aftershocks work through your body.Â
In one motion, he has you in his arms and in a completely different position. Itâs a level of strength and speed youâre not expecting. Youâre sitting up now and about to protest that you donât have the energy to fuck him like this, when he does the work for you. Even though youâre straddling his lap, he plants his feet and thrusts into you. Itâs a slightly slower pace than youâre expecting. Just enough that you feel the tension building, but not enough for it to do anything. At least for you. Youâre not sure about Chan.Â
You canât help it. All you want to do is kiss him so that he knows how good this feels. Not that he really needs more of an indication. You think he can probably read your body pretty well. The first time with someone new is usually awkward. This has been anything but. He knows exactly what you need and just how far he can push you before itâs too much.
And that really does seem true. Youâre just about to go into overstimulated territory when he changes the position again. You get the briefest of breaks for him to settle behind you. It could be as innocent as cuddling until he hikes your leg up and presses his length into you without warning.
âChan, jesus fuck,â you cry out.Â
âYouâre being so good for me, baby,â he coos into your ear. âCan you be good for just a little longer?â
âYes,â you pant.Â
âEven if I fuck you hard?â he asks, experimentally picking up his pace.
âYes, please, justâŚfuck,â you yell out as he snaps into you harder.
âSo perfect,â he murmurs into your skin.Â
His thrusts immediately get faster and you can tell heâs ready to stop dragging it out. Heâs still doing more than his share of the work and itâs insane to realize how much stamina he seems to have. The new angle allows him to hit you deeper than before. Youâre already so worked up that itâs not long before heâs pushing you into your second orgasm. This time, he follows right behind you, erratically thrusting as his breath stutters by your ear.Â
He collapses behind you, but still holds you close against his chest. Your breathing matches his without even thinking about it. Neither one of you really needs to say anything to know that it was something completely unexpected. You canât remember ever having better sex than with him. Leave it to Chan to ruin you for anyone else that could possibly try to come after him.
Eventually, Chan pulls himself out and off the bed. He holds out his hand to help you into the bathroom with him. You make a joke about how you donât have another round in you and his smile is instant. His features go soft when he says he just wants to help you clean up.Â
(That doesnât hold true for the next morning since he insists you should sleep over. You may be incredibly sore afterwards. You also know that you donât care. In that moment, you think you would let Chan fuck you senseless for the rest of your life without complaining. Who cares if youâre a little sore? Youâve never felt so connected to someone in your entire life. And he just happens to be one of the gods of Olympus.)
Things seem to fall into place quickly for you and Chan after he shares his past with you. Itâs like the last two puzzle pieces in an absurdly complicated puzzle. One of those ones where the pieces arenât in the standard square shapes. Yet, now that youâre perfectly slotted together, itâs like youâve been that way your whole lives. The two of you are together more often than youâre not. Late nights exploring or staying up until the early hours of the morning talking. Lazy mornings wrapped up in the covers of the bed (where you actually get Chan to spend more time away from the aquarium than he ever has before). Chan doesnât even really have time to overthink anything.
His biggest win comes when you finally admit that youâre ready to leave your boring job and come to work at the aquarium full time. That only takes a few weeks after he tells you that you were a sea nymph in a former life. Heâs still even a little at the complete lack of pushback on it. You accept it just as easily as you accept that he was Poseidon once upon a time. And youâre not accepting it in the way someone does to pacify a crazy person. That much is clear with how much more time you spend anywhere that Chan is. Somehow, the rest of Chanâs staff doesnât even seem to comment on how quickly you become inseparable. Soonyoung seems to be smiling even more than usual (a feat Chan didnât think possible). But, otherwise everyone just accepts the new normal. Everyone seems thrilled to have you around more permanently and that makes Chanâs heart constrict.Â
He doesnât have time to think about any of it. Until he does, very suddenly, think about all the feelings you bring up in him.
Chan is careful with relationships. Heâs friendly with his staff, but theyâre not really friends (despite Soonyoungâs best efforts). He doesnât get to know anyone at any of the places he shops or have any hobbies where he interacts with people. It can get lonely if Chan thinks too closely about it, but what is the alternative? Peopleâs lives are finite, measurable. Chanâs is not. At least, it hasnât been yet. There are no signs heâs slowing down over the many centuries heâs been through. Then thereâs you. You who are very much human. Though, itâs been a long time since heâs come across another reincarnated Olympian. There isnât a rule book for how those lives go and thereâs never been one that Chan stuck by long enough to find out.Â
The real question, though, is whether heâs willing to stick around this time to see how it works. Is he willing to risk everything only to figure out that youâre merely a mortal? That youâre going to fall victim, if youâre lucky, to the curse all humans succumb to? Thatâs if youâre lucky enough to live to old age and something else doesnât happen before then. Human life is so fragile. Itâs a lot to process. More so since heâs not really talking to you about how heâs feeling.Â
You notice. Of course you notice. Chan starts to get a little more distant as weeks turn into months. Heâs still physically present with you and he still tries to act like everything is fine. But, he can feel it in the shift of your moods. Doubt creeps in and he gets snippets of your feelings or even your thoughts. It isnât fair and he knows that itâs not. He knows he has to talk to you instead of just acting like everything is normal.Â
âAre you ready to talk to me yet?â you ask one evening when youâre sitting on his couch with your feet in his lap.Â
He stops scrolling through something on his phone and looks over at you. Somehow, you always seem to know when itâs best to apply just a little pressure. Knows his moods and senses when heâs ready to talk about something. Thereâs no use in acting like he doesnât know what you mean.
âItâs nothing youâve done,â he starts and you smile.
âOh, I know that,â you assure him. That makes him laugh. Itâs you all over.Â
âItâs justâŚI donât usually let myself get close to anyone,â he starts and your eyebrows knit in confusion.
âBit late for that, isnât it?â you say with an attempt at a joke, though it doesnât quite land.
âI think we both know youâre special,â he says quickly to reassure you. âItâs justâŚwell, thereâs a reason for that. Human life is so fleeting.â
âAh, yes,â you say with a wry smile, âbecause youâre ancient.â
âEnough,â he chastises without any real heat.Â
âSorry,â you say and throw up your arms.
âI am kind of ancient, though. Not in this body since Iâm always changing forms, but in mind. Iâve been around a long time and youâŚâ he says and trails off.
âYouâre so sure I have an expiration date?â you ask.
âYouâre human,â he says simply.
âAnd also have the soul of a reincarnated sea nymph,â you remind him. As if he could ever forget.Â
âI know,â he concedes. âBut I donât know what that means for yourâŚâ
âLife expectancy?â you offer. Thereâs something almost detached and also calming about the way you say it. âYou canât say for sure that I wonât live beyond a normal human life, either.â
âNo, I canât,â he says. âIâve never wanted to stick around another reincarnated soul the way I canât seem to let you out of my sight.â
âDoesnât that mean itâs worth at least considering?â you ask.Â
Thereâs nothing desperate or emotional about the way you approach the conversation. Itâs all based in fact and the information in front of you. As much as you and Chan like to go out on dates, you also like to sit with him while he tries to do research. Both of you want to understand what your soul means for the rest of your body. You want to understand why sometimes he can feel your mood or even hear some of your louder thoughts. Itâs fun when you can control it and send something disruptive towards Chan. Fun for you, at least. He doesnât always appreciate the image of what you want to do to him while heâs trying to do something at work.Â
So, you go through all the knowns with him again. Go over everything that youâve learned. Go through the questions you have unanswered and where there might be more information. You talk things through logically in a way that feels familiar to him. Chan finds himself getting lost in his amazement at your brain and the way you process information. Itâs also incredible to him to watch you work through a problem. It lulls him into a place that he hasnât been in sinceâŚ
And thatâs when it clicks. Thatâs when he realizes. Youâre not just a reincarnated sea nymph. No, itâs much deeper than that. He knows your soul more intimately than he knows his own. He canât believe that he didnât see it right away. Canât believe heâs had you in his bed for months now without realizing.
âYouâre not listening anymore,â you comment. You donât seem upset, only curious. Itâs like you want to know where his mind goes.
âNo, Iâm sorry,â he says and you wave it off. âItâs just, well, I figured out who you used to be.âÂ
âUh,â you say, clearly missing a piece. âYeah? A reincarnated sea nymph? Weâve already covered this.âÂ
âNo,â he disagrees. That makes you raise your eyebrows. âWell, you are, but youâre also more than that. Your soul, itâsâŚâ
âWhat is it, Chan?â you ask, full attention focusing on him.Â
âI should have known. You feel so familiar, like Iâve known you for years,â he says and itâs like heâs talking to himself. âItâs not just some ordinary sea nymphâs soulâŚâ
âYes, because sea nymphs are so ordinary,â you say with a scoff. âLike people every day are just coming across sea n-â
âItâs Amphitriteâs soul,â he finishes and that stops you mid sentence. Your eyes lock onto his, wide and wondering.Â
âAmphitrite? As in Goddess of the sea, most prominent of the sea nymphs and wife ofâŚâ she says and canât seem to finish the sentence.
âPoseidon. The one true love of my life, yes,â he says.Â
If you think anything of him referring to Amphitrite as the one true love of his life, you donât say anything. You go into a contemplative silence. Like if you think hard enough, you may be able to remember her or the relationship with Poseidon. Who knows? Maybe you can. Try as he might, Chan canât seem to think of a single instance where something like this has happened before. Doesnât remember someone like Hera returning in this way. He also canât think of any reason why you would return now, after all this time. Unless this is just the first time heâs found you. There are far more questions than answers.Â
âThisâŚchanges things,â you say.
âDoes it?â he asks.Â
âDoesnât it?â you immediately return.Â
âI donât know,â he admits. âItâs like it suddenly makes sense in a way I wasnât expecting. But, it also feelsâŚmore complicated.âÂ
âComplicated, how? I mean, you were in love with Amphitrite and I assume she, or I, was also in love with you,â you say. âDoesnât that explain this pull we have to each other?âÂ
âOur relationship was incredibly complicated,â he says softly. âI haveâŚmany regrets about how I handled things when it came to her. And I also canât wrap my brain around her reappearing after so many years or what that means for you.â
âWhy donât we just start at the beginning? Tell me about your relationship,â you prompt.
âThere are parts that were ugly,â he says without meeting your eye.Â
The couch shifts and dips as you get closer to him. You lift his chin up gently so heâs looking at you. âThe fact that you can admit parts were ugly or that you have regrets shows youâve learned. So, tell me the whole story and then weâll go from there.âÂ
So, he starts talking.Â
It starts at the beginning. He was at a celebration when he saw Amphitrite dancing among the other Nereids, the daughters of Nereus, who was also known as the Old Man of the Sea. There had been other consorts before her, but he was instantly smitten. She symbolized everything beautiful and kind about the sea. Everything that he could ever want. So, he approached her father before ever approaching her and asked for her hand. Her father was, understandably, thrilled. It seemed like there was no better match than to allow Poseidon himself to marry one of his daughters. In hindsight, that was absolutely the wrong way to go about it. She should have been given a say in her own life rather than treated like property by her father and the man who claimed to love her.Â
Chan talks about what he can remember of their courtship as honestly as he can. From his perspective, everything went wonderfully. After all, why shouldnât she have been thrilled that he wanted to marry her. Once he had nothing but time to think back on what he had done, he realized that she had not seemed all that interested. It was more like she was going through the motions because she had to. He tried to include her in everything that he could so she would see what her life could be like. Maybe that had been the wrong choice. But, she was a natural when it came to hosting or offering opinions in meetings. At the time, it made him happy to see how well she settled in. Now, it just felt like she had been forced into a life she never wanted.
As the wedding itself got closer, she fled to the far reaches of the ocean. It was a dolphin scout of his that finally managed to find her. He never knew what his scout said to her that made her return. He only knew what he told the scout. They never spoke about it once she came back. She simply returned, assured him she had only been nervous about how important he was, and said she wanted to get married still. So, he also acted like nothing happened, which he knows was as wrong as he could have been. He does think that he tried to be a better partner to her after that, though heâs not sure he succeeded. When he had to make decisions between what might be best for her and what might be best for his position, he chose himself. He also chose the sea over her when he had to make those choices. It was never fair to her.Â
Somehow, through all of that, he did really grow to love her. He valued her beyond what he showed. He appreciated her for her unfailing kindness and her insistence when she knew she was right. He appreciated her wit and her mind. He appreciated the way that she was never afraid to tell him what she thought or to let him know when he was making the wrong decision. He appreciated that she didnât just bend over backwards for him or fawn over him. He only realized after she was gone that he never appreciated her the way that she deserved to be appreciated. Once he lost her, he realized that he should have done anything in the world to protect her. He realized he should have given her the entire sea and made her the ruler because she was far smarter than he had realized.Â
You only listen intently without interrupting. In the few moments where Chan looks at you, he struggles to figure out what youâre thinking. Not that you wonât tell him. He knows you will. Itâs just very daunting to speak that long without you interjecting. When he stops speaking, youâre still quiet for a moment.Â
âI thinkâŚChan, I think Iâm starting to remember,â you say with wide eyes.Â
And thatâs the last thing he expects to hear. He figures you may tell him that heâs horrible for putting someone he claims to have loved through that. Or you could say that it sounds far-fetched to think sheâs not just a sea nymph, but a specific nymph that he was deeply in love with. He doesnât expect for you to look at him in wonder and say youâre remembering. Thatâs another unknown in this entire mess of a situation.Â
Before he can consider if this is something that should even be possible, your lips crash into his. There are so many emotions behind that kiss that he canât begin to process. Thereâs longing and a long-forgotten love. Thereâs excitement about returned memories. Thereâs the sparks that always fly between you two. The mix of the established feelings with ones Chan never expected to feel again is startling. So, he just lets his mind wander. He lets the feeling of kissing you consume him so thoroughly that it pushes any other conversation out the window. All that exists in that moment is the two of you, however you want to define that.Â
The excitement of finding out a long forgotten identity wears off far quicker than you expect it to. Not that you have any frame of reference for this sort of thing. But, surely it should last longer than this. Longer than it takes for you to fall into bed with Chan again. Longer than it takes for him to worship your body as heâs done before and for him to bring you to an orgasm so good it has you screaming. Somehow, in the post-sex haze, he doesnât realize that youâre quieter than usual. Perhaps thatâs a blessing. He kisses you so softly, so sweet and tells you that heâs going to do some research. Thatâs fine, you insist, because you want to get back home to really get a good nightâs sleep. It seems unspoken that he wants to let you process.
ButâŚwell, youâre not really sure if youâre still okay with the information. Itâs like having sex this time triggered a new flood of memories. Some come across as clearly as if it was something you directly experienced. Others come through more as feelings than anything else. And itâs a lot. Overwhelming in a way that nothing else has been. Itâs how you expected to react to finding out that all those myths you were so drawn to were actually real. That feels easy to accept, especially now. Remembering is something else entirely. Because remembering Amphitriteâs experiences as your own just feels complicated.Â
Maybe itâs wrong to think of her as a separate person if her soul lives within you. That part isnât hard to accept, not when you can feel it. The hard part is accepting the feelings about Chan. The memory pushes back on you calling him that. Accepting is also the wrong word. The hard part is reconciling the person youâve gotten to know with the memories that come flooding back.Â
Then, almost as if on cue, that whispering voice returns. It reminds you of how you felt when you first met Chan. Of the distaste you had without being able to place it. Which is true, isnât it? You didnât like him without any reason beyond just a feeling. The voice presses memories onto you. Things you actually experienced with Chan mixed in with scenes between Poseidon and Amphitrite. The more you see, the more it feels like your own memories. Like something that you took part in directly.Â
Itâs putting it mildly to say that things are complicated. There is clear affection there for the person that Amphitrite got to know. Although itâs clear she did not love Poseidon from the beginning, she grew into much stronger feelings. Yet, she canât separate those fully. She canât say for sure that the feelings would develop on their own. Did she just love him? Or was it because she, at times, had little contact with anyone outside their palace? Though, that was largely her own choice as things went on. There were too many things to do at home to leave. And there was too much unrest.
Yes, it feels complicated. Now your own memories or the past few months mingle with decades of memories from someone else. You canât decide if you want to push your own memories aside to make room for the returning ones or keep them side by side. Your new memories donât really seem to fit, though. Which isnât surprising. The person you know isnât the same one that Amphitrite knew. Heâs grown in ways that she can scarcely understand or imagine. Heâs thoughtful and considerate and much more mature. That doesnât sit perfectly with the memories. Although, you can tell that thereâs a part of the lingering voice that appreciates the growth. Maybe even feels a little responsible for it. Wants to believe that sheâs part of the reason he made the changes.Â
By the time you make it back to your apartment, your head feels like itâs going to split open. Youâre no closer to any answers about what you want to do. No closer to reconciling incredibly complex feelings. No closer to the next step. Thatâs fine, though. All you can really do now is let yourself drift off to sleep and revisitÂ
The morning, unfortunately, doesnât bring answers. Youâre not sure how to approach Chan other than to ask for time to process your feelings. That seems like as good a place to start as any because itâs a lot to take in. He must know that. Surely heâll understand. Even though you seemingly accepted the news yesterday, itâs a new day today. And your brain is fighting to catch up.Â
Youâre trying to figure out how to approach the conversation with Chan when you make your way through the apartment. A piece of paper by your front door catches your eye and you approach it. You pick up the envelope and recognize the writing on the front of it as Chanâs. Thereâs something so impossibly him about the gesture. Of course he would write a letter instead ofâŚwait. A moment too late, your brain catches up. Why would Chan be writing you a letter? What changed?
Opening the letter feels close to the last thing you want to do. But, you know that you need to just open it to see whatâs going on. See if anything changes.Â
A lot can change overnight, it seems. Chan fills the letter with apologies for things you canât even begin to understand. Heâs apologizing to you and also to Amphitrite. It seems he got to the conclusion much faster than you, which shouldnât be surprising. Heâs had centuries, apparently, to learn and to spot things others may never notice. Thatâs especially clear as you read through his letter, now.Â
Getting past the general apologies, you find more specific apologies. Heâs incredibly sorry, but heâs going to be leaving for a while. He knows that itâs not fair to you, but itâs something that heâs got to do. At least he acknowledges that it should ultimately be your decision on how to proceed with the relationship. He canât let you do that without more answers to his questions. He needs to know how itâs possible for Amphitriteâs soul to have found its way into your body. He needs to understand what that means for your own mortality. Itâs selfish, he admits, so incredibly selfish, but he canât move forward with you, even if thatâs what you want, without knowing more. He canât watch as you age and he doesnât. Canât grow to love you more and more only to know you have an expiration date. Itâs cold, he knows, to say it that way. Itâs also the way heâs going to approach it. The whole letter is filled with apologies and acknowledgements followed by buts.Â
Chan goes on to say that heâs going looking for his brother, Zeus. Heâs the only one that might be able to help them understand whatâs happening. The problem is that he hasnât seen his brother in centuries and doesnât entirely know how to find him, or if heâs even still surviving. He just has to trust that heâs out there somewhere, going through the same motions as Chan and chugging forward in the only way either of them know how. Somehow this tidbit is a lot to process. Accepting the existence of Poseidon was easy. Maybe thatâs because of your own past. Accepting Zeus is something else entirely. Some of that stems from your own disbelief. Most seems to come from Amphitriteâs complicated feelings about her brother-in-law.
Just as youâre about to put the letter down in frustration, you see the postscript. Chan asks you to help his staff look after the aquarium until he returns. He knows that itâs not fair to ask. He knows you may even say no. Your heart tightens at the thought of the animals without Chan. Now that you know who he is, you know that theyâll miss him when heâs not around. You donât have powers the way he does, though. And itâs his choice to just leave on a whim to chase answers for a relationship that may not even be there when he returns.Â
Well, two can play this game, you think. It may not be a fully rational thought. It may not even be fair. Before you can overthink it, you send a text to Soonyoung saying that youâll be out of town for the next few weeks, at least. You just tell him that you have some things to work through and leave it at that. In the meantime, you throw things haphazardly into a suitcase and youâre out the door before even getting a response.
Your letter from Chan stays sitting on your table as you rush out of the apartment without a second thought. All you know is that youâre going to let Amphitrite guide you on a journey of your own to find missing memories before you make any more decisions.Â
It seems like both of you have a lot to figure out before you see each other next.

honey
âHi honey, how was your day?â
the typical form of endearment Mizu uses to call your name
if sheâs feeling playful, sheâll say âhoney, iâm homeeeeâ in a sing-songy voice
when she calls you this and sees your face, she smiles everytime
(she canât help it i fear)
my pretty girl
âGod, my pretty girl looks so cute.â
emphasis on the âmyâ
nothing in her eyes is as gorgeous as you
(she is very gorjus to me đ¤âď¸)
typically used to compliment you, especially during dates
when you finish doing your makeup, she canât stop staring at you, mumbling how well done your work is
the words can be paired with your hand intertwined with hers, the pet name gently whispered into your ear
the name can also be heard when youâre feeling hesitant about yourself, as she tries to relieve you of your doubts
sweetie
âSweetie, I really donât think thatâs a good idea.â
typically used when talking to you in disagreements
also used when in concern for some cases
or sarcastically, if she were to push your buttons
not commonly thrown out there (buttttt iâm a big fan of it bc she can get sassy w it)
dear
âGood night dearâŚâ
a favorite of hers
simple but sweet
usually said before placing a good night kiss atop of your lips, her hands wrapped around your body, loving every bit of you until you fall asleep
if not at night, the term is used to call you over or to get your attention
either way, she uses it very lovingly
girl
âGirl if you donâtââ
unfortunately, akemi & ringoâs lingo rubs off on you two a bit⌠and they can get kinda⌠rambunctious and witty when it comes to comebacks
usually, this pet name (if u can even call it that) is used in a teasing setting
or if you accidentally give her the wrong directions
or push her buttons in a grumpy mood
or if you bother her to the point of her snapping, ending with her tickling you until you admit defeat
i fear the silent but sassy side comes out at times when she uses this name
dearest
âDearest, can you please fetch me a cup of freshly brewed tea?â
both of you use this jokingly
and of course, in a british accent
usually used when asking a favor or in a silly mood
the one answering must respond back in their best british accent
and mizu is lowk good with it
too good at itâŚ
baby
âYou like it like that, baby?â
when she feels more romantic and intimate, ohhhh this one WILL be used
especially in that low, deep voice when sheâs really into it
a banger when yâall ban-
(oops my hand slipped)
or when she got that morning, groggy voice when sheâs half away and cuddly
either way, great usage
hon
âFuck, honââ
a variation of âhoneyâ that is typically used during the uh⌠later parts of the night
(nudge nudge wink wink)
most commonly used when sheâs overwhelmed with the pleasure, slipping and forgetting her words
or when your grasp on her shoulder frantically tightens, pulling her body closer to yours while you reach your limit
or when she looks down at the sopping wet mess you two made on your lower half
sometimes, the term becomes an incentive, paired along with a rough smack or hickey on your neck
princess
âAw princess, you want it deeper, donât you.â
oh this one⌠this one is a mean oneâŚ
at times, she can be quite dominant and persistent
it may not seem like sheâs degrading you, but the fakeness of her sweet tone proves otherwise
paired with her long, deep strokes, you would think you were going to ascend from the pleasure
but all you can do is nod, having little control of your moans as she rams deep inside your wet cavern
she cracks a smile at your failed attempts at answering back to her, hearing the shakiness of your voice mix with the wet noises erupting from her work

Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince:
Chapter 11

Masterlist - Previous - Next
Miss Americana
"Maman!" Charles said in a hushed voice but his mother only grinned, her eyes darting between her son and her young assistant.
"What? You did talk about herâŚ" Pascale just shrugged her shoulders "Where is my gorgeous, little Ava?"
Lauren just then noticed the stroller behind Charles.
"You were right, by the wayâŚ" he said, looking at her.
"Umm-" Lauren was confused.
"I gave her a warm bath later on when she was still a little restless." Charles replied and she remembered their conversation again "She had a little cold back then⌠but sheâs umm-⌠sheâs better now."
"Thatâs good to know, Iâm glad." the girl smiled at him, watching Pascale gently picking up Ava from the stroller, giving her the chance to see the little girl from close up "Sheâs gorgeous."
"That she isâŚ" Pascale cooed.
"Yeah, she really isâŚ" Charles agreed, although his eyes werenât on his daughter but on Lauren, who didnât seem to notice.
"Are you done with everything? Ready to close the salon for the next 3 weeks?" Charles asked his mother and Lauren looked at Pascale with big eyes.
"Oh god. I totally forgot to tell you⌠Iâm so sorry!" the hairdresser gasped.
"Oh⌠umm okay⌠well yeah, I mean, I was wondering why I couldnât set up new appointments for the next weeks although the calendar seemed to be empty, but I thought you blocked them because of our little project." the young girl smiled at her boss who sighed.
"No, itâs not okay⌠you couldâve planned something beforehand for the next weeks and now I leave you behind and all alone just like thatâŚ" Pascale said sincerely.
"Itâs really okay Pascale. I probably wouldnât even have planned something. Just stayed here⌠also, I scheduled the delivery of the new sinks and some other supplies for tomorrow, so yeah, maybe itâs better when weâre closed!" Lauren tried to reassure her "You go and enjoy your holidays with your family. I take care of the delivery tomorrow and then I watch over the salon⌠maybe I start with the remodellingâŚ"
"No! Weâre closed due to holidays! I cannot let you work while I do nothing⌠and I canât let you be here all alone when they deliver all this new stuff tomorrow!" Pascale shook her head.
"You can and you will. Please let me handle this, Pascale. After everything you did for meâŚ" Lauren meant what she said, looking at the other woman hugging her granddaughter close to her chest.
Pascale sighed, looking at her young assistant, the girl that got so close to her heart over the last weeks. She didnât want to leave her all alone. Especially not in her makeshift bedroom in the storage room. The thought of Lauren all alone in the dark room with only one tiny window made her heart clench and she shook her head.
"Charles, how about you come in tomorrow morning and help Lauren with the delivery? Weâre not leaving before noon so thereâs enough time for thatâŚ" she smiled mischievously at her son "I would feel bad if Iâd let poor Lauren handle it aloneâŚ"
"Thatâs really not necessary!" the girl in question protested but was shut down by just one look of the older woman.
"You know how these delivery people are! They will drop the stuff right at the entrance and you have to carry around those heavy packages all by yourself! So no, Charles will help you, right?"
"Of course! Yeah⌠Maman is right, you shouldnât carry all of that alone. Thatâs- umm no, Iâm coming. Just tell me when I should be hereâŚ" Charles said hastily, looking at Lauren.
"Umm-⌠the mail said theyâll be here at around 8 am so⌠yeah at 8?" she replied shyly and Charles nodded.
"Iâll be here then."
"Perfect!" Pascale clapped her hands gently, making Ava giggle.
Lauren was tossing and turning, not able to fall asleep. No matter what she did, when she closed her eyes she saw Charles blueish-green eyes and his dimply smile in front of her. His loving eyes whenever he looked at his daughter. Ava. The most gorgeous baby girl she has ever seen. She had her fatherâs eyes and dimples. A cute little button nose, chubby cheeks and a bright smile that was giving her fatherâs a run for its money. Lauren was nervous meeting Charles all alone. No Pascale to bridge the awkward silence. Only the two of them. Alone. She didnât even know why she was nervous. Just that she was. Which was weird. She never felt that way before and she didnât know if she liked it or not.
"Get yourself together, Rachel." she mumbled into the dark room, sighing after a moment "Lauren. Iâm Lauren."
She checked the time and groaned. 1 am already. She turned on her side. Closing her eyes taking a deep breath, Charles face in front of her immediately. But this time she ignored it. Yes, he was attractive. Yes, there were some weird feelings stirring inside of her. But it didnât matter. He was Pascaleâs son. He had a daughter which probably meant he had a beautiful girlfriend or wife as well. Out of her league. Not that she even thought about anything like that. She already had a long enough list of problems. A crush on an unavailable man whoâs also the son of her boss wasnât going to make it on that list. And still it was Charles face she saw when she fell asleep. Unfortunately it wasnât his face that made her wake up. Sweaty and heavy breathing. Heart racing. She had a nightmare that her father and even worse Tony had found her. Taking her back home against her will. Threatening her life and everyone who was kind to her if she wouldnât come back. Lauren felt sick. It wasnât the first time she had a nightmare like this. The first one or two weeks after she ran away were filled with nightmares. But since she arrived in Europe, brought a whole ocean between her and her old life, the nightmares were gone. Or at least she thought so. Lauren sat up and grabbed her water bottle, gulping it almost down in one go. With one hand she was brushing her hair out of her sweaty face, with the other she was searching for her phone to check the time.
"Fuck!" Lauren let out, scrambling out of the bed. 7:58 am. "Why? Why last night? Out of all nights I had to have a nightmare last night!" she mumbled.
Lauren left the storage room, her heart sinking when she saw Charles waiting through the storefront, talking with what looked like the delivery guy.
"Iâm so, so sorry! I didnât hear my alarm!" Lauren unlocked the door, pulling both sides wide open "I hope you didnât have to wait too longâŚ"
"Oh no, itâs alright..." Charles began with a big smile "We didnât even wait forâŚ" his smile faded immediately and worry was etched on his features "Are you okay?"
"Huh?" Lauren turned, looking at him.
"Youâre awfully paleâŚ" he replied and she just waved him off.
"Oh-⌠umm⌠of course. It was just a little stressful when I realised that Iâm too late!" she tried to reassure him and then quickly turned to the delivery guy "But now Iâm here and we can startâŚ"
"Sure." he nodded and started to unload 3 big and heavy looking packages, dropping them off at the entrance, followed by a handful of smaller packages "Thatâs all, I need you to sign here⌠and hereâŚ"
"I didnât even know that Maman planned on remodelling the salonâŚ" Charles said after he sat down the last of the 3 big packages.
"We talked about it and well one thing lead to anotherâŚ" Lauren shrugged, opening one of the smaller packages "We made a mood board, looked up some stuff online and then we already ordered itâŚ"
"Wow, my mother usually isnât the spontaneous type. She takes her time making decisions, thinking everything through. You must have made quite the impression on her."
"I told her that the salon looks amazing, there is nothing that needed to be changed!" Lauren quickly replied "I didnât tell her that she should do itâŚ"
"No! Thatâs not-⌠I didnât mean it like that. Umm- like you talked her into it! I know her, talking her into something doesnât work. I just meant that the ideas you had mustâve been amazing, otherwise she wouldnât be on board that quickly!" Charles looked at her with wide eyes.
"Oh. Well, she knows what she wants. And I was just lucky enough ti find the perfect stuff onlineâŚ"
"Can I see it?" he asked "The mood-board?"
"Oh? SureâŚ" she searched through her phone, handing it over to Charles "That was the visionâŚ"
He didnât reply immediately, looking at the design, the different textures and colours.
"WowâŚ" Charles let out, looking at her "I understand why my mother agreed. It looks amazing, Lauren."
The way he said her name made the girl shiver, taking her phone back.
"Itâs nothingâŚ"
"It is. Really. You have an eye for details."
"My mother and I, we used to watch HGTV all day long. The home renovation shows were our favourite. It was either nurse or interior designer for meâŚ"
"Why did you choose being a nurse then?" Charles asked curiously.
Lauren was silent for a moment. Thinking about the best way to answer his question.
"Iâm sorry, I didnât mean to pryâŚ" he added but she shook her head.
"I wanted to help people. People that got hurt or are sick. So yeah⌠nurse it was." Lauren replied, swallowing hard.
The truth was, she wanted to become a nurse because she saw what her father and his line of work did to people. A part of her was hoping she could get rid of the guilt she felt over the pain theyâve caused. Another part always had to think back at her mother and the night of their accident. How helpless she felt.
"Lauren?" Charles soft voice made her flinch "Are you okay?"
"Hmm?" she looked at him confused.
"You were a little- umm⌠absentmindedâŚ" he took a step closer, looking in her eyes, noticing the tears gathering.
"YeahâŚ" she replied, her voice hoarse.
"You sure?" Charles asked when a single tear rolled down the girls cheek and without thinking about it he gently wiped it away with his thumb, cupping her cheek.
"I was just thinking of somethingâŚ" Lauren breathed out when the door to the salon opened and Pascale walked in, followed by a boy carrying Ava, making Lauren taking a step away from Charles, looking at her boss.
"Are we interrupting something?" the boy, who looked a lot like Charles just younger, asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
"Ferme-la, Arthur!" Charles hissed, making Arthur held up his hand.
"Lauren, this is Arthur, my youngest son⌠and you know little Ava by nowâŚ" Pascale introduced Lauren to Arthur.
"The famous Lauren. Iâve heard so much about you already!" he grinned at her.
"Hopefully good things?" Lauren said nervously.
"Only good things, no not even good, my mother was praising you. Basically everything about you⌠but saying youâre a really pretty girl was a total understatementâŚ" he winked and Lauren felt herself blush.
"Stop it, Romeo!" Pascale rolled her eyes but had to smirk at the look Charles was giving his younger brother "I brought some breakfast for my little hard workers."
"Iâm starving!" Arthur exclaimed.
"I wasnât talking about you. What did you do besides carrying your niece around? Right. Nothing." Pascale put down a paper bag and two cups on the counter "This is for you two." she smiled at Charles and Lauren.
"That wasnât necessary!" the girl mumbled.
"Donât think I didnât notice how little you eat! You really shouldâve accepted my offer and move in with me instead of living in the storage room with no way to cook an-âŚ"
"What? You sleep in the storage room?" Charles made big eyes, looking at Lauren "But-⌠that room is tiny! And dusty! Is there even a window?"
"Itâs fine! There is a window. Itâs not dusty. The bed is comfy. Itâs just until I got my feet on the groundâŚ" she replied hastily.
"Yeah and you couldâve done that at my place just as goodâŚ" Pascale sighed.
"Maman is right! This is just a salon! Itâs not safe! Do you know how often there has been break-ins here in the shops?" Charles said, his voice laced with worry "Itâs dangerous!"
"This is Monaco⌠not Nice!" Arthur laughed but stopped as soon as his brother looked at him "But still. Yeah. Dangerous. Living in a shop."
"Itâs fine. Really. As soon as my French is better and I can do my qualification and start working as a nurse Iâll look for a flat! Until then, the store is just fine!"
"I donât kn-âŚ" Charles got interrupted by his phone and he pulled it out of his pocket "Hang on a minute, I gotta take that callâŚ" he groaned groaned, stepping out of the shop.
"Arthur? I need your height!" Pascale voice came out of the storage room and he got up looking around.
"Could you hold her?" he looked at Lauren.
"Of course!" she smiled and took Ava out of Arthurâs hands "Hello, pretty girl." she cooed at her, making the little girl smile "Arenât you adorable!"
Ava looked at Lauren with her big, bright eyes, cuddling into her chest, making adorable sounds that made Laurenâs heart swell. The little girl was grabbing the strings of her hoodie playing with it, happily chortling.
Outside of the salon Charles ended the call, sighing frustrated when he looked through the storefront, seeing his daughter smiling brightly at Lauren. His heart skipped a beat and his insides began to warm up. Holding Ava looked so natural to Lauren. Like she never did anything else in her life and Charles smiled. He quietly opened the door and walked inside, leaning against the wall, watching his daughter and Lauren. She cooed at Ava, gently caressing her cheek making the little girl snuggle up into her arm, happily giggling. Like in trance Charles watched the scene in front of him, not able to interrupt it.
"Oh wow, look at that, she loves you! Normally sheâs super fuzzy with strangers! But with you? Charles, I think you have some competitionâŚ" Arthur laughed, walking back in and Lauren looked up, spotting Charles leaning against the wall.
"Yeah⌠I think so too, she seems to like you a lotâŚ" he replied, looking at her with an intense gaze, making her blush slightly.
"Sheâs a perfect little girl. Itâs easy with herâŚ" Lauren smiled at Ava who yawned a little.
"A tired little girl. Come on sweet girlâŚ" Arthur began, holding out his hands, but Ava turned her head away, snuggling even more into Laurens chest "Hey! You stole my niece from me!"
"Iâm sorry." the girl chuckled and looked down at Ava.
"Donât be⌠heâs just jealous. Ava has good taste in who she likes, thatâs allâŚ" Charles pushed off the wall, walking over to the two girls and his daughter lifted her head, hearing her fathers voice this close.
"But no one beats her dadâŚ" Lauren smiled right as Ava held her hand out for Charles and she carefully handed the little girl over "UnderstandableâŚ" she whispered underneath her breath.
After a few moments of silence, Pascale came back from the storage room, seeing Charles with Ava in his arms standing close to Lauren while Arthur sat on the counter, scrolling through his phone.
"Alright, I guess weâre done hereâŚ" she began "We just have to figure out where Lauren will stayâŚ"
"Here! Like I said. Iâll be fine!" the girl in question protested again.
"No. I shouldâve insisted when you moved here in the first place! Youâre coming to my place!" Pascale said with a finality in her voice.
"But you wonât even be here for the next weeks! I canât possibly just move into your apartment without you being there! Thatâs not rightâŚ"
"How about Lauren joins us at our holiday and you can figure out where she stays after? This way sheâs not all alone for the next weeks. The house weâve rented has enough rooms!" Arthur suggested and Lauren looked at him with big eyes.
"What? No-⌠thatâs no⌠I canât! This is family! I canât intru-âŚ" she stammered but stopped when Charles looked at her, a soft smile on his lips.
"You know what Arthur? I think that was the best idea you ever had!" he winked at his younger brother who shrugged his shoulders.
"Then itâs settled. Youâre coming with us. No discussion⌠now come on⌠letâs pack!" Pascale excitedly clapped her hands together.
Lauren stood in front of the big yacht. Sedici. Sixteen. She turned to Charles, eyes big.
"How rich are you? Renting an entire yacht this size? That must cost a fortune!" she said shocked and he laughed.
"Now imagine how rich someone has to be to own itâŚ" he winked and held out his hand for her to take.
"Itâs yours?" she whispered shyly, carefully walking over the gangway.
"Yeah⌠I bought it last summerâŚ" he nodded.
Lauren was at a loss of words, standing on board of the beautiful yacht. She knew that people in Monaco were richer than usually, it was Monaco after all. But she didnât expect people to be that rich to have yachts like this. Or at least not normal people. Celebrities? Yeah. Millionaires? Of course. But Pascale had a hair salon. She knew that she wasnât making a ton of money with it. So she didnât think she was part of Monacoâs high society, so why would her son be?
"Lauren?" Charles gentle voice coaxed her out of her thoughts and she shook her head "You want me to give you a little tour?"
"Yeah. SureâŚ" she replied and followed him inside.
The yacht was beautiful. Simple, yet elegant. Everything shiny and sleek. The sofas looked soft and comfy. The beds in the cabins even more so. The upper deck with the steering wheel was her favourite place tho. It had a padded sundeck from where you could overlook the entire yacht.
"Weâll arrive in Ajaccio tonight and tomorrow in the morning we head to Olbia⌠or rather near OlbiaâŚ" Charles explained the route and Lauren looked at him "Donât worry, Iâm a pretty decent captain." he laughed.
"Iâve never been that long on the waterâŚ" she mumbled.
"Donât worry, in the first aid kid weâve got something against seasickness."
"Thatâs good to know." Lauren smiled when Arthur climbed up the stairs next to them.
"Everyone on board, we can take off." he said and Charles nodded.
"So, Lauren, will you be my co-captain for the day?" he asked her in a serious tone, too serious, and the girl laughed, a sound that made his heart flutter.
"It would be an honour, captain!" she replied and Charles smiled before he started to explain her the different buttons and displays on the dashboard.
Lauren watched Charles steer the yacht out of the marina onto the open sea with ease, a soft smile on his lips. It didnât take long and the coastlines of Monaco and France were long gone behind them and after a while there was only the Mediterranean sea on the horizon. Lauren was fascinated with how at ease Charles was, almost as if he wouldnât do anything else in his life then sailing the oceans. The light breeze in his hair, the dimples on his face, it made him all look even more handsome.
"Alright, weâre on the right course nowâŚ" Charles checked the displays and got up from his seat "Letâs go downstairs, meet the rest of the group."
"Yeah⌠sureâŚ" Lauren nodded and followed him down the stairs.
She was nervous, meeting the rest of the family, Avaâs mother and Charlesâ best friend, as he told her would be here as well, but she put on a brave smile and entered the cabin.
"Ahh there you are, we were just getting everything ready for a little lunch!" Pascale smiled at them "I was about to send Arthur up to come and get youâŚ"
"Iâm starving!" Charles said, kissing his motherâs cheek "Whereâs Ava?"
"Charlotte is changing her diaper." Arthur replied when he walked in, a pretty girl following him "Lauren, this is Carla, my girlfriend. Carla meet Lauren."
"Hi, itâs nice to finally put a face to the name!" Carla smiled at her, pulling her into a light embrace "Pascale talked a lot about you!"
"Yeah, I heard about thatâŚ" Lauren replied, smiling at Carla.
"Oh donât worry, she only said good things about you!"
"There are only good things to say about her!" Pascale added, smiling fondly at her young assistant, making her blush.
The door to the cabins downstairs opened and a breathtaking beautiful young woman walked out, cradling Ava to her chest. Lauren was sure that she mustâve been her mother. Ava didnât look particularly like her, but just from how beautiful she was, her big smile, she was sure.
"All clean again!" she said in French "Oh, sorry! Hi, you must be Lauren! Iâm Charlotte." she switched to English and smiled at her.
"Hi, nice to meet you." Lauren replied.
"Enzo will be out in a minute he had to change, this little one here peed on himâŚ" she chuckled.
"Not funny!" a young man, Enzo probably, said, walking through the door "Hi Lauren! It feels like I already know you from how much Maman was talking about you! Iâm Lorenzo, or Enzo, the older brother."
"The oldest. Itâs just usâŚ" Arthur whispered.
"Anyways. Itâs nice to finally meet you in person!" Lorenzo smiled at Lauren.
"Nice to meet you too." she replied and watched how he gently slung his arm around Charlotteâs waist, pulling her to his side.
The movement felt intimate, lovingly, and Lauren wondered if her assumption, that Charlotte must be Avaâs mother and therefore Charles girlfriend, was right. As if Charlotte sensed her confusion she smiled at her.
"Iâm Lorenzoâs girlfriend."
"Oh, okay⌠I thought that⌠umm- never mindâŚ" Lauren said hastily when Ava turned her head a little and the moment she spotted Charles and Lauren she began to happily babble.
"Oh, sure, you see your dad and the rest of us is long forgottenâŚ" Charlotte joked and walked over to Charles, but right when she wanted to hand him his daughter the little girl held her hand out to Lauren, chortling "Ohhh look at thatâŚ" Charlotte handed Ava over to Lauren and she immediately snuggled into her chest, sighing contently.
"Ouch⌠looks like youâre not her favourite any-âŚ" Arthur laughed but stopped when Charles looked at him.
"Itâs like I said⌠she has good taste in who she likesâŚ" he smiled, gently brushing over Avaâs cheek "Really good taste."
"SorryâŚ" Lauren replied and he looked at her confused.
"For what?"
"I donât know⌠she umm- she probably wanted to you⌠not meâŚ" she said quietly and Charles began to laugh.
"Oh stop it, really." he smiled "She likes you, thatâs not a bad thing!"
Lauren nodded slowly, feeling relieved and then looked down at Ava, half asleep.
"Oh wow, look! Sheâs almost asleep! This fast! Lauren, youâre a natural!" Arthur said impressed.
"Whoâs a natural?" a dark haired boy walked inside, a plate of veggies and a basket full of bread in his hands "Ohhh the famous Lauren is here! I was wondering when Charles would finally come down and let us all meet you! He wanted you all to himself as it seemedâŚ"
"Very funny, JorisâŚ" Charles rolled his eyes "Lauren, this is my best friend, Joris. He thinks heâs funny⌠which heâs notâŚ"
"Youâre right⌠Iâm not funny, Iâm hilarious!" Joris wiggled his eyebrows and smiled at Lauren "Itâs nice to meet you, Lauren⌠these boys went crazy about you, from all the things Pascale has told us about you!"
"Okay, okay, stop now! Leave her alone. That poor girl has to hear from all of you how much I talked about her all the time and feels uncomfortable if you people canât tell!" Pascale stepped in and Lauren blushed a little "They are right, dear, I told them about you because I wanted you to meet them all. And now that that happened, letâs stop hogging at her like that, will you?"
Everyone mumbled in agreement and Lauren smiled shyly.
"Itâs okayâŚ" she said, looking down at Ava who made a little sound, but was still fast asleep.
"Here, you can put her downâŚ" Charles lewd her to the side where a little crib stood and Lauren gently placed the little girl in the middle of it.
"Sheâs really gorgeousâŚ" she whispered, loving the way Avaâs nose was scrunching up a little.
"She isâŚ" Charles agreed and smiled at the way how Lauren looked at his daughter "Now come on, letâs eatâŚ"
Lauren sat on the deck, stargazing when a shadow to her left caught her eye and she watched Charles making his way onto the deck.
"I guess Iâm not the only one who couldnât sleep then?" he said quietly and she nodded slightly.
"Yeah, I guess I first have to get used to the rocking of the boat while sleepingâŚ"
"Oh. Yeah. That takes a few nightsâŚ" Charles chuckled looking at the girl next to him.
Lauren wore shorts and an oversized sweatshirt, her hair a messy bun on top of her head, but to Charles she looked breathtaking and he had to force himself to look away, to not keep on staring at her.
"Can I ask you something?" her voice hesitant.
"Sure."
"Itâs really private and you donât have to answer if youâre uncomfortable."
"Ask me." he knew the question already.
"Umm-⌠where is Avaâs mum?" Lauren looked at him and he kept his eyes trained on the dark horizon.
Lauren knew that she went too far, Charles was too quiet and right when she wanted to apologise he sighed, tilting his head to look at her.
"Sheâs not in our life. She never was⌠she didnât want to be a mum, didnât want to keep Ava, so I decided to take care of her alone. As a single dadâŚ" there was some bitterness in his voice "It was a one night stand. A stupid mistake I made and when Avaâs mother came to me for help we wanted to give her up for adoption right after she was born⌠my life⌠my job, itâs hectic, stressful. Iâm never for long in one place. Always on the road⌠I had to focus on my career, being a father didnât fit into my lifestyle. And she didnât want to be a mother. Not to a child with me at least. Sheâs from a religious and conservative family, they wouldâve disown her if she was pregnant unmarried. Not in a relationship with the childâs father⌠so yeah, we had a planâŚ"
"But then you saw Ava and couldnât do it?"
"No⌠it was even earlier⌠I saw her heartbeat on the ultrasound screen and I knew this little thing was mine⌠and I would do everything for it⌠flash forward and I have this beautiful little girlâŚ" his voice wavered a little when he held up his phone that showed Ava sleeping in her crib.
"I would say you made the right decision. Ava⌠sheâs wonderfulâŚ" Lauren smiled at him.
"Yeah⌠I know I made the right decision, but itâs hard⌠being away so often⌠leaving her behind all the timeâŚ"
"Okay, I have to ask this, what do you do for a living?" Lauren looked at him and Charles made big eyes.
"You donât know?"
"No? How?"
"Youâre living in Monaco?"
"And?" she was confused.
"And? Maman? She didnât say anything?"
"NoâŚ"
"Okay⌠umm- well Iâm a Formula 1 driver⌠for FerrariâŚ"
"Oh. Wow. Thatâs cool⌠I guess?"
"You guess?" Charles snorted and Lauren looked at him sheepishly "I guess youâre not into Formula 1 then?"
"No- not really⌠some of my family were but I never cared for 20 guys driving in circlesâŚ" she shrugged and Charles looked offended.
"Driving in circles? We are not driving in circles!" he gently nudged her shoulder "Ouch. That really hurts!"
"Iâm sorry! I didnât mean to hurt you!" Lauren chuckled, a sound Charles loved to hear.
"Yeah I can hear that! UnbelievableâŚ" he shook his head laughing "Driving in circles⌠unbelievable⌠thank god youâre cute, otherwise I wouldâve thrown you overboard!"
"Now youâre exaggerating!" Lauren laughed, although she felt her cheeks reddening.
"Absolutely not!" Charles shook his head.
"Iâm very sorry for not knowing who you are, what you do and how big of a thing it is. Please accept my sincere apology." Lauren smiled at him.
"Apology accepted⌠but Iâm coming back to this conversation and then-âŚ" he began when Avaâs faint cries were heard from his phone "She saved you. For nowâŚ" he laughed and got up "You should also try to get some sleepâŚ" he held out his hand and Lauren sighed, taking it.
"I guess I have to try and get used to the wavesâŚ"
"You definitely have to. We spent a lot of time on the water⌠and as part of the Leclerc clan, you will too." Charles smiled at her and when Lauren climbed into her bed, she couldnât stop smiling, thinking about Charles words.
She was part of the Leclerc clan?
Lauren stepped off the dinghy onto the dock, looking at the big house in front of her and she gulped. Never before did she see a house, no mansion, like this before. It was huge. Beautiful. The pool alone was bigger than in some hotels sheâs been before. The lawn looked so fresh, green and soft, she just wanted to lay down on it.
"What do you say?" Charles asked her and she tilted her head, looking at him with big eyes.
"I have no wordsâŚ" Lauren replied and he laughed.
"I take it thatâs something good?"
"It is⌠it really isâŚ"
"Wait until youâve seen the inside!" Carla took her hand and pulled Lauren with her "When Arthur showed me the pictures I was just⌠I was speechless!" the younger girl was excited and didnât stop until they stood in the big living room and Lauren looked around.
It looked straight out of an interior design magazine. Everything was in warm shades of cream, beige and white. The huge windows let in the bright sunlight. The sofas looked like they were made out of the softest of fabrics. But what caught her eye was the big book shelf that spanned across the entire wall. It was like a library, from Shakespeare over Emily BrontĂŤ to The Lord of the Rings, a wide variety of different books were to find and she couldnât stop herself from carefully pulling out a book here and there that piqued her interest. She completely forgot about where she was, or how long she was already looking through the books when Charles voice behind her made Lauren flinch and she turned around.
"What do you say?" he repeated his question from outside again.
"WowâŚ" was all she could say and he smiled.
"Wow indeedâŚ"
"I was already saying to your mum that I need to find a bookstore so I could buy a book or two because⌠well this vacation was on such short notice that I didnât have anything to read⌠but I guess that wonât be necessary anymoreâŚ"
"Nope, there are enough books for you to readâŚ" Charles replied "Ready to see your room?"
Lauren only nodded and followed Charles through the house when he lead her to a hallway with 3 doors on each side. He opened the middle one on the right and walked inside, Lauren right on his heels.
"And this is your roomâŚ"
"Always when I think it canât get any better this place surprises me even moreâŚ" she let out and walked over to the big French doors that lead onto the terrace with a beautiful view of the pool and the sea.
"My room is next to yours. I let you unpack and get settled⌠if you need anything, just let me know." Charles smiled and turned around, ready to leave the girl alone.
"Wait!" she went after him and when he turned around again Lauren hugged him "Thank you. Really."
"You donât have to thank me!" Charles whispered, gently stroking her back.
"Yes I have to. You didnât have to take me here with youâŚ"
"I told you last night. Youâre part of the Leclerc clan nowâŚ" he chuckled and Lauren pulled away a little, looking into his eyes.
"Well⌠then thank you for thatâŚ"
Lauren stood in front of the mirror, pulling the flimsy fabric into place. When she bought the bikinis a couple of weeks ago she didnât think that she would spent a family vacation with her boss and her sons in Sardinia. But now that she looked in the big mirror in the bathroom she wasnât sure if going out with what she was wearing was appropriate. She groaned frustrated and tried on the dark red bikini, that covered slightly more but still felt too exposed. She could hear some commotion outside at the pool and carefully pushed the curtain to the side, looking outside. She saw Charlotte sitting on a lounger and she wished she could see what she was wearing and if she was worried for nothing.
"Whereâs Lauren?" she heard Carlaâs voice from somewhere and stepped away from the window "Lauren?" she knocked on the French door.
"Come inâŚ" Lauren replied.
"Youâre missing out on all the fun!" she said when she stepped into the bathroom "Everything okay?" she was looking her up and down.
"Itâs inappropriate, isnât it?"
"What do you mean?" Carla asked confused.
"The bikini, I saw how you looked at itâŚ"
"What? Oh god⌠noâŚ" she laughed "Itâs a bikini? Whatâs inappropriate about it? I was just thinking that I have the same one, but in a different colour."
"Isnât it like a little too revealing?"
"And what am I wearing? Half of my ass is out!" she turned around showing Lauren the tight fit of her bikini bottoms "Itâs a normal bikini. Were you hiding in here because of that?"
"I⌠Pascale is my boss⌠thatâs her sonâs out there⌠thereâs a baby!" Lauren blushed and Carla gently patted her arm.
"Itâs cute that youâre this considerate, but donât worry. Itâs all good! And now come on!" she pulled Lauren with her and together they stepped outside.
It was easy to fit into the group of people and it didnât take long for Lauren to truly believe into Charles words, that she was a part of the Leclerc clan now.
As the sun was slowly starting to set over the horizon, Lauren stretched a little, soaking in the last rays of sunshine when she decided to have a quick shower before dinner. Only Arthur and Carla were still at the pool, the rest was already getting ready for dinner.
"See you laterâŚ" she smiled and got up, making her way over to the terrace, walking straight into, what she thought, was her bathroom. She didnât notice the lack of her toiletries on the vanity, or the dark swim shorts that were hanging over the towel rack. She only wanted to wash the day off of her and pulled off her bikini top, then stepped out of her bottoms. She stepped inside the shower, starting the water stream and closed her eyes, relaxing. Her skin was hot and dry and she knew that she needed to moisturise her whole body after her shower but for now she just enjoyed the spray of the water. After a couple of minutes she grabbed the bottle of body wash that was provided, lathering her whole body up, it smelled masculine, pine wood and bergamot, but the scent was somehow familiar. She washed the last remaining bubbles off her body and grabbed one of the towels from the shelf, wrapping it around her, before she stepped outside of the bathroom, colliding with a warm, muscular body.
"Oh shit⌠shit⌠oh my god⌠Iâm so sorry! I- I mustâve taken the wrong door outside⌠oh godâŚ" Laurenâs face was flushed, her breathing ragged. She clutched the towel tight to her body, hoping that everything was covered "Iâm- Iâm so sorry!" she repeated.
"Itâs okay⌠really! Umm- I- I didnât even look, I didnât see anything! I mean how? Youâre wearing a towel! Do you say youâre wearing a towel? Sounds weird, no?" Charles rambled nervously, turning around and feeling all his blood rush down between his legs, just like when he saw Lauren stepping out in her bikini for the first time earlier today. That damn red bikini that made him feel like an aroused pre teen.
"I just grab my bikini and then Iâm leaving! Iâm so sorry, CharlesâŚ" he heard her walking back into the bathroom "I canât believe it, this is so embarrassingâŚ" she mumbled.
"Please, donât be embarrassed! Itâs okay, nothing happenedâŚ" Charles tried to reassure her but she didnât reply, after a minute of silence he turned around, Lauren was gone "DamnâŚ" he groaned and let himself fall into his bed, taking a deep breath.
It was only the first day and he was already wondering how he should manage to contain himself for the next two and a half weeks.
"This will be funnyâŚ" he sighed.
Chapter 11 - itâs summer break âď¸đśď¸đď¸ and the family + Lauren need a little time to relax. They deserve it⌠and what can I say, Charles will have a hard time watching this gorgeous girl fitting into his life so effortlessly wearing nothing but cute bikinis⌠more next week đ¤

this is kind of a hateful ask so feel free to just delete, but i watched guts (angela's short film) and some of the comments kinda disappointed me. it was such a well written, well acted, well directed short film and it was emotional and meaningful! media about eating disorders that's really honest and emotional isn't super triggering is so rare and greatly appreciated! i just hated that there were so many comments just about angela. granted, there's a lot of thoughtful comments and people saying the same thing as i am right now- but there are also a few comments of people being incapable of doing anything but talk about angela and her being on smosh. and it was enough upon initial release for me to notice and be frustrated by.
art is so difficult and this film was a team effort, why do certain fans want everyone to know that they're there mostly for angela and nobody else? does that not feel disrespectful to them? i felt similarly when patrick's short film came out- he and amanda have incredible chemistry and acted off each other with such natural tension and patrick was so menacing, towing the line between kooky and an actual threat. but all some people talked about in the comments and social media was amangela- which was only in the film for like. 5 minutes. yes, it's sweet and kinda gay that amanda wanted angela to be her wife for the film but that's literally such a small part of the film. there were other things going on.
it just frustrates me that when people like angela who are members of really popular groups make art outside that group, the fans of said group can't engage with the art that they're a part of without appreciating all the other people involved or the story being told. i 100% totally understand it- i would not have been served either short film had i not been a fan of smosh in the first place and i'm excited to see the cast members and patrick outside of smosh and especially for them to be so serious and good. but oh my god where is the decorum?
this rant was spurred on by seeing the fact that dan and phil fans (of which i am one) in the youtube comments section did not appreciate the other simmers on the sims anniversary livestream and just spammed dan and phil things the whole time. im begging some of u thst if ur gonna engage with media, pls for the love of god, show some love to everybody involved! it's cute that smosh appreciates the crew as much as they do- so let's keep that same energy for outside projects!! also this isn't critique of angela- she did incredible in both guts and i live in your house! i love her! i am angela giarratanamaxxing as we speak (idk what i mean by that but i am), but more a critique on how certain people engage with media. pls have some decorum, divas!
I agree a million percent. It's fine to leave a comment that you're happy to see more of Angela's talent, but as you said, people act like she (or whoever) is the ONLY person who made it.
It's not done in malice most of the time, I don't think, but that doesn't change the impact it has. I would be disappointed to see no comments on the rest of my film and only comments about one of the actors if I were Margeaux.
The film was wonderful and hit home for me more than I expected it to, and I wish more people took the time to look at these things for what they are as opposed to just a vehicle for more Angela.
This was very well said.

Socraâs Naruto Liveblog, Ep. 111-120:
Also known as âSocra grows progressively distressed as everyone gets the shit beaten out of themâ
Ep 111:
-noooo Sasuke donât take the unknown drugs these cult-y strangers are offering you-
-I liked that Orochimaruâs theme came in when Sasuke took the pill
-so like if the squad didnât happen to include Kiba and Akamaru, how would they have tracked Sasuke? I guess Neji can track to a certain extent, but his tracking is more limited by range⌠in conclusion Akamaru is the squad MVP
-Shikamaru hanging onto Chojiâs scarf for balance when he stopped Naruto from triggering the tripwire was funny
-I canât believe Orochimaruâs goons are just lugging Sasuke around in a barrel
-I donât believe Shikamaru would let himself get thwarted so easily so I feel like getting caught was part of his plan somehow?
Ep 112:
-so I get that Kibaâs attack doesnât break the domeâs wall and shows that the dome regenerates, but couldnât Naruto just try smacking it with a rasengan (aka the single strongest jutsu any of them have)? I feel like that could do some insane damage at least
-this is so random but istg if anything happens to Akamaru on this mission Iâm gonna riot
-oh now Naruto doesnât have enough energy for the rasengan. Almost like he shouldâve tried it earlierâŚ
-honestly these last couple episodes have made me like Choji a lot more. Heâs chill, even though I think his human boulder attack looks stupid
-also I like Shikamaru and Chojiâs relationship a lot
-Shikamaru and Neji are really holding all the braincells in this group lol
Ep 113:
-Naruto and Kiba highkey share a braincell (aka theyâre both dumbasses)
-a lot of this fight animation is really wonky so far. Iâm guessing theyâre saving the better quality stuff for the more important fights
-oh shit Chojiâs getting serious
-I actually quite like Chojiâs dub voice when heâs speaking more softly
-Choji really pulled a Popeye by taking a spinach pill and getting stronger
-Iâm sorry Choji I was unfamiliar with your game
-lmao I spotted an animation error where Kibaâs face markings disappeared for one scene
-as much as Choji has grown on me recently I will never think his ball attack looks good
-aw Shikamaru is a good friend
Ep 114:
-bruh why does this episode title make it seem like Chojiâs gonna die
-Jirobo is so mean for no reason. Like yeah I know youâre gonna kill the kid but you donât have to be such an ASSHOLE about it
-man between Choji, Sakura, and Narutoâs backstories, why do Konoha kids suck so much
-awwwwwww poor Choji he just wanted to be included :((((
-the scene of little Choji helping a butterfly caught in a web was such a good little character moment
-given how intertwined their clans are, I wouldnât think that Shikamaru and Choji only met when they were like 5 (they donât necessarily have to be close just because their dads and clans are, but youâd think theyâd at least KNOW OF each other). Iâd personally headcanon they were introduced basically as babies
-aw little Choji and Shikamaru are so cute, my hearttttt đ
-skinny Choji is kinda uncanny-looking
-I love how defensive Choji is over Shikamaru and how seriously he takes someone insulting Shikamaru
-GOOD JOB CHOJI but also omg pls rest
-(also, assuming that Jirobo is dead, Iâm pretty sure this makes Choji the first of the Konoha kids to kill someone onscreen)
-the voice acting of Chojiâs pained gasping as he tries to follow the others and then as he starts crying and reads the messages the others left for him was so good, I literally almost cried
-god this arc has done wonders for Chojiâs character and we stan
-NOOOO CHOJI (I know he doesnât die obviously but still, goddamn)
-god the whole last part of that episode was really good. Honestly this episode in general is one of my favorites so far
Ep 115:
-whyyyy does spider guy (Spiderman, if you will) have six arms????? Like I still need to know what his and two-headed guyâs deal is
-the sticky spiderweb sounds are kinda uncomfy, itâs like gross ASMR
-ayyyy Neji to the rescue!
-Neji acknowledging Naruto and saying âsometimes your eyes are even better than mineâ was nice and a good subtle nod to how their fight in the chunin exams helped Neji
-anyways I still donât know spider dudeâs name so Iâm just gonna refer to him as Spiderman
Ep 116:
-GET HIS ASS NEJI
-damn Spiderman copied Gaaraâs sand shield defense
-idk why but itâs interesting to me that one of Nejiâs biggest moves is a defensive one
-âwhat kind of a freak is this guy?â says the dude with six arms and metal-emitting sweat glands
-EW OMG THEREâS SO MANY SPIDERS
-yeah no if I were Neji I would have run away from this fight screaming
-I like how shook Spiderman is by Nejiâs abilities. Compared to Chojiâs fight, this fight holds far less emotional weight, but it does a good job of showing off Nejiâs strength as a prodigy
-this is so stupid but the pose Neji fell over in reminded me of the Family Guy death pose đ
-damn Nejiâs hair slays
-oh Spidermanâs name is Kidomaru. Iâm still gonna call him Spiderman tho.
-okay Spidermanâs second stage form is pretty cool
Ep 117:
-jesus Neji is going through it
-I wonder if the squadâs headbands getting knocked off is gonna be a recurring thing in these battles
-damn I gotta give it to Spiderman, he does have incredible aim
-oh my godddddd Neji got fucking impaled. Istg these fights are doing horrible things to my poor heart
-welp rip Spiderman
-itâs heartbreaking seeing Naruto and Kiba still think Choji is coming while Shikamaru knows heâs probably dead
-POP OFF NEJI
-hm this fight was nice and all but it definitely didnât hit the same emotional beats Chojiâs fight did
-literally every fight Nejiâs in makes me sad tho because of what I know happens to him. Ahhhhhhhhh I hate it here.
-also I just thought about how Neji took a BEATING from Spiderman but somehow got taken out by one punch from Naruto in the chunin exams lmao
-this is a much less convincing fake-out death than Chojiâs but also awww poor Neji I wanna give him a hug (actually I think I wanna give all of the squad a hug after this tbh)
-I bet people were losing their shit over these fights back when the show was airing on TV and the squadâs fates were left unresolved
Ep 118:
-I like the way Akamaruâs ears flap when Kiba runs
-I hate Tayuyaâs weird headpiece thing
-jesus Orochimaru is going through it
-also I donât think Iâve said this before but Orochimaruâs dub voice is great
-every time I see Kabuto I instinctively start feeling annoyed, even when he hasnât even started talking. So yeah fuck Kabuto all my homies hate Kabuto
-hearing Kimimaro refer to Kabuto as âKabuto-Senseiâ was so weird
-wow Kimimaro has only had like a minute of screentime and heâs already contemplating his purpose in life
-OOH Orochimaruâs theme abruptly starting when he revealed his face to his new vessel was so good, it jumpscared me a little tbh
-Iâm getting the feeling that Kabuto WANTS Orochimaru to use him as a vessel and Iâm not sure why heâd want that. Idk maybe Iâm reading into things too much
-Kiba doing his drill attack straight through Narutoâs shadow clone was cool. Hooray for teamwork lol
-also Shikamaru using shadow possession to make Tayuya get in Sakonâs way was clever, I hadnât thought about that kind of application of his powers before
-my horrible confession is that half the time when I hear âSakonâ I immediately think âSakon deez nutsâ. I hate this for myself :/
Ep 119:
- Akamaru setting off bombs was unintentionally kinda hilarious (he looked so smug about it too)
-NOOOO DONâT YOU DARE HURT AKAMARU
-welp Kiba, Akamaru, and Sakon are dead I guess (I know they arenât but how the fuck do they survive that giant fall)
-I know it was supposed to be badass but Kimimaro dropping down behind Naruto and Shikamaru was kinda funny to me
-I like Kimimaroâs hair beads and makeup. Heâs creepy tho
-I kinda hate her design but I do have to give Tayuya props for being more of a loud/brash character. This show could use more rowdy girls
-oh shit Narutoâs looking pretty feral
-I love how Tayuya summons a bunch of giant demonic-looking dudes and Shikamaru is just nonchalantly like âoh well thatâs not good.â
Ep 120:
-since Orochimaruâs goons are from the SOUND village, I wish more of them had sound motifs and powers. The only people with sound-based fighting styles are Tayuya and that girl from the chunin exams
-okay Sakonâs powers are really fucking disturbing
-aw Akamaru jumped in front of Kiba to protect him despite being tiny, heâs such a good boy<3
-ah hell yeah dog piss jutsu
-BIG DOGGO
-wow okay so Kiba and Akamaru just RIPPED A DUDE IN HALF
-dog piss jutsu strikes again. Ngl if a dog peed directly in my eyes Iâd be pretty upset about it too
-STOP HURTING AKAMARU HEâS JUST A LIL GUY
-okay so I said that the twinsâ powers were disturbing before but OH MY GOD THEY FUCKING TAKE OVER PEOPLEâS BODIES WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKKKKKKKKKK (it reminds me of that one fungus that slowly takes over the bodies of insects, which Iâve always found super disturbing and scary)
-so yeah I know Kiba isnât going to die, but if he did, that would be an absolutely horrifying way to go out
-Neji and Chojiâs âdeathsâ both had flashback sequences, but they actually made sense and were (mostly) short enough to not distract from the moment. On the other hand, the flashback sequence of Kiba and Akamaru was sooooooooooooooooooo unnecessarily long and annoying. Like we really didnât need to see the whole fucking Kiba vs Naruto fight again
-congrats to Kiba for somehow having the most hardcore moment in this whole arc so far. Like bro STABBED himself in the stomach and was like âtime for you to dieâ while fucking GRINNING? Kind of iconic I fear

In which Ford struggles so badly to relate to other people that he wonders if heâs really human at all. The more isolated he becomes, the harder it is to reconcile with his own humanity.

I've been picking mostly only the essential flirt options with lucanis in the romance so far (I've personally found the dynamic much more natural and mutual when you do that, more like forming a solid friendship slowly and inevitably becoming something else and less like you keep pushing on him and getting little back b/c he seemingly just gets overwhelmed and goes into freeze instead), and I think rye is a pretty hard person to read at the best of times even though he's been Down Real Bad from pretty early on and their chemistry as people is naturally really good. so the way the almost-kiss plays out in this playthrough feels a lot like it has the added layer of lucanis realizing that no but for sure rook is flirting and not just being kind or a good friend* it IS actually happening it's not just wishful/fearful thinking!!! and then uh. maybe going a bit too hard a bit too fast in all the excitement at that revelation haha
*in lucanis' defense he has seemingly literally never had a friend who wasn't his cousin-brother before, under those circumstances I suppose some confusion is extremely natural if not outright expected lmao
#meanwhile rook is kicking himself for being unprofessional b/c he WAS getting something important from spite there#and also lucanis had like. just woken up was that cool of me. should I have told him. should I have slowed that down???#watcher's duty crashing into watcher's longing blues ensues#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#lucanis dellamorte#oc: Ellaryen Ingellvar#rook x lucanis#rookanis#I think I might have done something hilarious and a little wonderful to the lucanis romance#by making a rook who's even slower to romance than he is fhskjfhsa#even here I was straight up like 'oh this is a little early for this don't you think' on rye's behalf (it's not we have to be mid-game)#imagine how he'd fare in some of the other romances you'd just bowl him over. davrin might kill him#(and also they would kill each other for unrelated reasons during it but that's another matter (affectionate I love my lads))#lucanis has been squinting at rook in stolen moments ever since the cafĂŠ scene like '...did I imagine that vibe. surely not right.#i'm pretty sure. but am I. I do know he likes me. but DOES he like like me or is that just what I want it to be. this is very embarrassing#for everyone involved' (it is)#davrin has had both their numbers the entire time tho. and been extremely annoyed but professional about it#he knew from the moment these two chucklefucks showed up in his recruitment mission. and has been an adult about it. mostly#even when they've made it real hard ('so I'm gonna go ahead and assume you're not letting the abomination serial killer run around#just because you're transparently excruciatingly sweet on him. right. RIGHT??')#I have accidentally given lucanis a pattern of falling for people who keep covered neck to toe at all times#but like not to be a metaphor for their emotional intimacy issues or anything haha. imagine.#I'm making my own heart so tender by imagining lucanis struggling to get rye out of his (many-layered) robes during the romance scene#and both of them laughing right from the soul in relief and delight at each other b/c like 'how could I kill a god only to be bested#by nevarran fashion. also how in the maker's name do you get dressed so quickly in the mornings this is intense'#'same way one does anything else lots of practice and a can-do attitude'/'well I'll just have to put in the practice then'#and they just hug for a while. *head in my hands* yeah okay I can be normal. I can be normal about this.

grief will have you saying shit like goddamn and fuck maybe the abuse was worth it
#ive made this post before i just cant find it and itâs all im feeling rn#god i miss my parents so fucking much even though they were the cause of SO MANY of my problems that idk if iâll ever heal from#but navigating life w this grief and without their support- however little it was- feels like hell#but the abuse felt like hell too.#ive said it before but i was JUST getting to a place where i felt i could stand up for myself and knock down thwir shit a few pegs. or at#least become more resistant to it#i saw a future with them in it for the first time in my LIFE#and it was bc iâd done SO MUCH FUCKING WORK. and now i feel like it was all so fucking useless#itâd be easier if i was still in the phase of anger i was at like 19#but iâd processed that quite a bit and was trying to move on#FUCK. i had made SO much goddamn progress right before my mom got sick#then everything went down the toilet cus i cannot fucking have anything#itâs so unfair. i wish i could at least redo the last 3 years of my life#i wouldâve done things so much different but i was so traumatized and still so angry and bitter and trying to preserve myself#ive come to the realization tjat the person i am today did not exist back then and therefore i shouldnt beat myself up bc it literally wasnt#available to me. i couldnt have done anythimg different bc i was in such a state of survival#and truthfully ive grown a lot since then even if im still in the trenches#the timeline of my entire life has been so fucking unfair#and i dont know how to reconcile any of it i dont know how to cope with my worst fears coming true#and i mean worst fears. even the way they passed. spot on to my worst fears#i despised what they did to me but i still didnt see life without them until i was at least 30#it was all so sudden and quick and shocking#yeah they were horrible parents but i was a horrible kid too. maybe i straight up just deserved that shit#and iâd go back to that and seeing a future with them in an instant#over this bullshit#itâs so hard. and then losing all my pets too at the SAME TIME. all my babies#everything that i loved ripped away from me in the span of MONTHS#itâs all too much. l oh fucking l. no wonder im 3 shots deep at fucking 3 pm#it just hurts so bad. so fucking bad.

Type of girl who has been constantly thinking about the issues she has in the relationship with her main partner but can't talk to her about because she can't find out how to bring it up (and when brought up in the past it was never at a good time so I have a bad track record with that stuff wooooo) and has been weighing the pros and cons of constant hurt or breaking up after we talk.
#vent post#venting#I know she wants relationship anarchy status but the point she officially does that I'm done.#I don't mind a lot of stuff but thats mostly because I don't want to seem controlling or evil#but realizing more and more that I get deeply hurt when she engages in intimate acts with people who aren't her partners#and recent events have really been gouging my veins and badly testing how long I can accept it with a smile before saying anything again#I really do love her but god absolute pain#hell i'd rather we barely be in contact or talk or hang out than this#there is also other stuff with another partner but fuck if I ever know how to talk to them#and honestly wondering if poly is for me...and realizing that for the most part no it isn't

i'm normal now. lying also
#clai speaks#god. God.#a game hasnt made me feel despair like that since m/ther 3#i was so tense and horrified and just downright felt Awful through all of act 5. this RULED ITS SOOOOO SO SO GOOD!!!!! AAUGHHH#hehe. my favorite game is black and white and my second favorite game is in black and white#i think theres still a lot i need to look into. one of the posts i rbed mentioned a loop fight and uhhh What. Huh#i missed a lot in my game i think.... i had to look up walkthroughs a couple times and found out about things like--#--the ghost event or bad touch event. though tbh i'm very glad i didnt see bad touch event!!!!#but also i never managed to make the bomb i didnt open some rooms i couldnt sharpen the keyknife#so i'm wondering just how much i missed#i won't replay though i do wanna get through my backlog BJEVRJBFF#but just aughhh. isat. really really well done game. phenomenal showstopping spectacular#every single character is a delight!! everyone is so well fleshed out their interactions so good#siffrin..... man. i really saw a lot of myself in them a lot of things hit very close to home for me#god!!!! he loved his family so much he almost destroyed the world to keep them together!!!!!!! thats awful i love it!!!!!!!!!!!#i guess i will say a couple points of progression werent too clear. a couple times loop told me to do things i already did#and certain things you had to do in a specific order so i would just loop around pointlessly a couple times#but overall still very good i enjoyed myself a lot#if i ever play again. i gotta keep notes bc i Also have a terrible memory VJDVFJFB#i spent 10 loops trying to find the room with the craftology book it was EMBARRASSING#honestly. kinda adds to the experience does it not. just like siffrin i was forgetting things i should have known and--#--getting increasingly more exasperated with the constant looping for like One (1) thing i missed#really really Reeeeally good game. phenomenal game. please play it please play it please play it please play it

swashbuckler rogue my beloved
#i would never regret the storm sorc/tempest cleric combo that i chose for Bonk because they're an absolute damage MACHINE#but sometimes i wonder who i would be if i had gone down the martial road instead#bonk literally has a pistol and a sword and they're pretty fucking good with both of them. you normally don't see that in sorcerers.#i think my attack bonus with the sword is higher than my spell attack bonus which is kind of insane#next time i level up i have to go through all my spells because honestly im starting to get a little tired of the same old lightning bolt#PLUS now i have transmuted spell so i can just take pretty much any damage spell i want and turn it into lightning damage#for my sweet sweet bonuses#there is just some part of me that needs to play a rogue though. swashbuckler. arcane trickster. soul knife. phantom. anything#normally i don't like playing stealthy characters but there are so many good rogues out there#even a âruff boiâ a la magnus burnsides (fighter/rogue)#multiclassing my beloved too i guess#so hard for me to make a character that i don't multiclass#i might even go paladin/bard with one of my newer characters eventually#inspired by calliope petrichor#but he's different. he'd be a bard because he's a theater kid#but also i want to play a straight up paladin because i want to explore with being a character who has a connection to a god#because i've never done that before#and the themes and motifs are too strong#idk man we'll see how it goes :)#i love dnd#ALSO i feel like i cant make him a bard because i already have TWO OTHER FUCKING BARDS#GUYS (sweating) IM NOT A BARD MAIN I SWEAR#maybe for my paladin i could just take magic adept and learn some bard spells or something? like beverly naddpod? maybe#but it's not about the spells... it's about the performance checks...#i really should be working on my finals right now#im so serious if you've read this far down 1 hi :) and 2 if u have dnd characters PLEASE tell me about them. bats my eyelashes. please
