I LOVED IT.

It’s honestly disgusting, all of the hate that this movie is getting; it’s so undeserving of it.

It was never meant to be… Idk why that is so monumentally hard for people to comprehend.

Anyway.

Emotionally, I’m kind of devastated right now. Bill was brilliant, Twigs was beautiful; the GORE was fucking magnificent. God… I might have to go see it again tomorrow, for real. I can’t stop thinking about it.

I didn’t cry, but there were a couple of times where I was close, this makeup scene being one of them.

Having Enya’s “Boadecia”paired with it? Gorgeous. Heartbreaking. I got legitimate chills.

I don’t know what else to say, I’m still just…wow.

Is it some Oscar worthy contender that should do a clean sweep this award season? No. But it’s not meant to be, either.

It has great cinematography, was well-acted with a good story, it was brutal and intense, but also a lot of fun to watch.

Just because this film is not a carbon copy of 1994 (which it shouldn’t be, anyway, and if it was, they’d bitch about that, too) doesn’t mean it nor Bill or Twigs or anyone else should be getting shit all over the way that they are.

(Besides, how many Crow sequels were made after Brandon Lee’s death? I mean, what’s the fucking difference?)

I actually think Dorian and Orym should fight more.

Remember when their slowly building tension over and entire episode (full of passive aggressive remarks and blame throwing) led to threats? And how after, Orym thanked Dorian for handing over the crown sadly because he knew Dorian would be mad at him? And Dorian couldn't even look at him because he was legitimately hurt, thinking Orym was disappointed in him for doing what he thought was right? That was peak.

The fact they went from that to their current closeness and trust is the best part of their entire dynamic. Their relationship was hard fought and still will be. They will fight for it because they respect and care for one another deeply, and their disagreements don't change that, only improve it.

I originally had typed up a whole ass angry rant about how fucking awful some of the takes are about Oppenheimer (it seems primarily from people who haven't even seen the fucking film), but I decided against posting it (and then I wrote this which now that I'm reading over it, still ended up being a bit of an angry fucking rant so oops).

But what I will say is that the film does not glorify the bomb or what it was used for. So please shut the fuck up about that. Also, this is a story about J. Robert Oppenheimer. The bomb is a large part of the story because it was a huge part of his life. But the focus is on him and his emotional journey through the film. They are trying to pack about 600 pages of dense material into three hours. There is simply not enough time to go on a side quest to address a lot of the things many of you are insisting be addressed. Especially when Oppenheimer himself was not directly involved in them.

I've seen many people say that this story should never have been told. And, kindly, fuck you. We live in an age where people are constantly trying to change, discredit, or dismiss history. We desperately need more people to become engaged with it again. Prior to this film, there were a whole ton of people who had been so failed by their history classes they had no idea who J. Robert Oppenheimer even was. People still know alarmingly little about the bomb and the scientists who worked on it and if this film allows them to be more interested/educated in that topic, that's a win.

This film brings to light more than just the bomb. It's a discussion on morality and the relationship between scientists and the government.

Also, you don't get to say that a piece of art shouldn't be made just because it makes you fucking uncomfortable. Don't consume that piece of art, then. But you have no right to say someone shouldn't make something, or others shouldn't consume or enjoy it just because it makes you uncomfortable.

Friendly reminder that people can do whatever the fuck they want with fictional characters because they are, in fact, fictional, which means they are not real.

We're all basically playing with dolls. And if someone's playing with them in a way you don't like? You can this simple and easy thing called blocking them. Or blocking a tag. There is no need to whine and cry about how xyz people are "ruining" a fandom for a ship or how a fandom has a "problem" of having xyz. Like. C'mon now.

I think in recent years there's been a big issue arising in fandoms since corporations started sanitizing the internet for more ad revenue: instead of letting people have harmless fun playing with dolls, people are now instead choosing to try and oust those people from playing entirely due to it not being "morally correct".

And that is, quite frankly, stupid. Imagine going up to a horror novelist and saying they shouldn't write their novels bc it contains morally dark/gray/bad things.

Imagine saying someone shouldn't play a video game and should feel gross playing it bc it has a bunch of dark/taboo topics.

Imagine going up to someone exploring dark/taboo materials in safe, creative ways and saying they should feel disgusted for that.

That sounds dumb, yeah? That sound ludicrous, yeah?

Then why are we attacking other people for morally dark/taboo ships, hcs, and content in their own works? Why are we calling it a "waste of potential"? Why are we calling it gross and bad when it isn't hurting anyone?

Listen to me. We have GOT to relearn to be harmlessly uncomfortable. We have GOT to relearn tolerance for things we do not like. People shipping or having hcs of xyz is not ruining fandoms. The purity culture of not letting people have fun in their own corners is.
