I have some questions about karaoke night, Alex Hirsch. Very Important Questions. Which I will happily scream at a poor hapless baby triangle who can have no answers for me, and possibly also does not have object permanence yet.
Follow-up that is I guess suggestive, but let's be real here, Bill's a fucking triangle:

Dude slipped right into his birthday suit, lmao
this is so stupid :D
Anyway, I don't care what anyone says, this brilliant individual knows what's up - Bill is absolutely way more of a monsterfucker than Ford could or ever will be, full stop.

all the critiques of the “male presenting” bit in the star beast are valid and true (patronizing, kind of bioessentialist, etc) however i think we’ve been ignoring the funniest part of the whole thing which is like. he was a woman like three hours ago. you don’t need to give him a lecture about What Women Are Like. he knows. and even when he was a woman he still bottled shit up so your argument is moot anyway

#persona 4#p4#persona 4 golden#p4g#yosuke hanamura#hanamura yosuke#but he certainly does it with a lot of consistency and i love that so much#yosuke's not the first person to always include nanako#it makes me extremely soft because i feel like yosuke tries to be inclusive with his friends he doesnt want anyone to feel left out#we see it especially in his interactions with the first years and teddie#on some level he knows that the others are less willing to put themselves out there#thinking about the beach outing where kanji says that he would not have gone yo the beach if it wasnt for yosuke's invitation#anyway in this particular instance I'm just very very weak for yosuke looking out for nanako as well#i mean nanako is super cute (and i say that as someone who doesnt really like kids or kid characters) and everyone loves her (as they should#so in a way yosuke keeping her included is not surprising#but on some level its also just... yosuke being considerate of yu#i mean look at yu's title of siscon kingpin of steel in arena - yu cares very much for nanako#so by extension yosuke does as well#also on a more delulu lvl in p4d rise says she'll give nanako priv dance lessons#because it'll just be her yu and nanako and WOW isnt that just like... (giggles) - rises hilarious transparency aside#isnt that exactly what yosuke has with yu and nanako?#ngl im lowkey thinking about romcom single parent troupes and yosuke is just ticking all the boxes#ok ok im jking (im not)#he's good with his queue

The struggle between being happy that all kinds of aspecs are talking about aspec experiences more and barely being able to stand the way people talk about aspec experiences
#i don't know how to say it but like. i'm aro and i hate how nobody ever. talks about us except us#if i was the type of person who comes out and if i didn't already need a powerpoint to explain asexuality#i'd start telling people i'm aro and not aroace#like just. the way i feel towards both alloallos & alloaces who try but fail at being inclusive....#towards alloace and sometimes aroace communities & the way they are & act....#legit making me think about identifying as like. non sam aro or something#yeah technically i'm asexual but i'm going to take that word away from everyone#my allo friends are trying bless their heart but they DO NOT GET IT!!!!#they're trying and they're FAILING!!! BADLY!!!!#i understand people who use certain sets of pronouns but only with specific people. holy shit#like if i see one more time that asexuality means not being interested in relationships.#if my friends ask me and only me if i'm comfortable with a sex discussion when i am participating in it#if i get told 'no bitches!! :D' as a pride thing ONE MORE TIME#i'm sorry if you're seeing that m btw. on the infinitesimal chance you do see it. it's not against you it's my aro rage#i just. i'm not ace and then aro as an afterthought.#i'm ARO and eventually if it comes up i'm ace#'oh but no bitches isn't necessarily about sex it can also be about relationships'#yeah okay. well. i'm interested in both of those. i do want bitches. not like allos but i'm not signing up to be a nun here.#the flattening of the aspec experience to 'asexual and possibly aromantic' is making me want to tear things apart with my teeth#hate hate hate hate#and let's not forget adolescent romances. listen. i'm a teenager and i love romance#but all the stuff where the 17yo alloace teen feels broken and ends up dating a comprehensive partner......#i keep seeing it like you see the fin of a shark. and that's already more than i can stand#i'm happy it's resonating with people but it's exactly as insipid as bland straight love songs to me#anyway. i didn't get everything i wanted out but i chipped away at it.#wow i have a ramble tag now

well, i found something good about the slip arc. it’s the idea that homesickness in the future will be a physical illness that manifests in those especially who will never have the chance to return to earth. cause im gonna be real i wasnt paying attn because i didnt want to but the way i understand it people on new kinshasa weren’t affected by this, people in the upper echelons of sarasvahti (ie people who had money to spend and lives to lead by doing so) weren’t affected by it: only Brahma pests and those too poor for earth to ever be a dream in their hearts were ailing with a homesickness so potent and concrete that it led to physical symptoms.
and i fucking love that. i love that so much, i think theres this divide btwn ppl who would love to go to space and who love the idea of aliens and whatever and then you have those who get sick thinking about the idea that for years the planet has existed with a certain number of souls less than it’s supposed to have because theres always been people on the space station and i FIRMLY belong to that second category so like... this is SO good to me, it’s so fucking real
#penumb#again .... im gonna mention the sacred text this is getting embarrassing but idc its why i love that jet & rita are from earth in ambrosia#and i love the inclusion of second cit in there just on the basis of the fact that it melds so well and i love it#but also because i love how earth has grown and evolved and done so in a pretty insular way all things considered??#because its now considered backwards and old school and wht have you and obviously this isnt canon bc it wouldnt mesh with the homesickness#and also its not canon bc it just isnt but in ambrosia earth has sort of evolved beyond capitalism because theyve had to#bc they are living with the direct results of what human technologies have done in those ghost dinosaurs#and because at least how it comes across with the jet storyline it seems that earth has become a glorified parking lot#an in betweeny for dark matters to park their spaceship when looking for the unnatural disaster#i dont actually know if its canon that jet is from earth i feel like we've not heard jack about earth ever except for that illness#but like to me jet will always be from earth because it explains ... so much to me#this idea of natural disasters which im sure exist on other planets (i mean hello venus global warming) but they still all come back to#us and the way he's so self contained and self controlled seems to have something that for me resonates with earth too#idk. anyway idk if that author even knows what theyve done to my worldview with that fic its unreal

Hey remember that time Tim Burton said that he doesn't include Black characters as leads because it would be too "politically correct"? They just don't fit his "vision", guys! Unless they're villains. Obviously. đŸ€ąđŸ€ąđŸ€źđŸ€źđŸ€ź /s (Apparently, this is the case so far in the Wednesday show.)
So yeah. This movie here by Jordan "one of the best filmmakers alive" Peele and Henry "the guy who actually directed Nightmare Before Christmas" Selleck being one of the best animated movies to come out in years is so awesome on so many levels:
Kat as a Black alt girl - fuck anyone who says they don't exist! Of course they do! and they're punk as hell! In fact, this specific scene highlights exactly how fucking punk she is: It has been firmly established that HER REBELLION HAS REAL AND SEVERE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES beyond just dirty looks from preppy kids. If she is expelled, she goes back to prison. This child arrives at school in chains. And she STILL does this within minutes of arriving because she has a strength of identity that she won't let anyone take away from her. WHAT COULD BE MORE PUNK THAN THAT????
Genuinely anti-fascist messaging (Disney would NEVER) and a direct commentary on the prison industrial complex (hey, Tim! have your films had anything important to say, like... ever? Just checking, cause I know you got that incurable progressive mediocrity disease. 😭 Poor bb.)
Excellent comedy! (It's Key and Peele, baby!)
James Hong is there and he is great.
Wonderful and dynamic character/set design!
An interpretation of healing from trauma that was so beautiful I wept.
An extremely sexy giant demon DILF lord!
Original songs!
A FAT FEMALE CHARACTER WHO IS A COOL BADASS WHILE REPRESENTING SUPPORT BETWEEN GENERATIONS OF BLACK WOMEN??? WHAT?!!?!! YES!!!!!!! (hey real quick, everyone! Name the first 10 badass fat female characters that come to your mind! Oh what's that? It's taking you a while to think of even 5???? SO WEIRD. Okay then just name a couple fat Tim Burton characters who aren't villains. Oh?? THERE'S LITERALLY NONE??? HOW FUCKIN' STRANGE)
And let's not forget, THE FIRST TRANS BOY I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A MOVIE!!!! RAUL IS A MAIN CHARACTER WITH A TON OF SCREENTIME AND HIS AGENCY IS INTEGRAL TO THE PLOT!!! đŸ„°đŸ„°đŸ„°đŸ„° he's perfect and his Hispanic heritage is not only much-needed representation, but it is also relevant to the beautiful artwork he makes in the style of pre-colonial Latin American religious imagery!
Raul's art stands in direct contrast to the grim cold aesthetic of the Catholic Church. (Disney would NEVER) Which IS in other movies I've seen.... so long as the non-Christian imagery represents an ancient evil that highlights the nobility and necessity of the Church for crushing Pagan religions. This is the FIRST TIME I've ever seen an inversion of that trope and it RULES.
Anyway this movie is so good and everyone needs to know about it.

Wendell & Wild (2022)
Bad things happen to people I’m close to... They die.
#original#wendall and wild#kat wendell and wild#raul wendell and wild#sister helley#i was afraid the only disabled character was gonna be a bad guy but even he gets a shot at redemption#so cool#to be clear i am white and if i have accidentally said something hurtful i would really like to know so i can do better#i just care a lot about one of the only thematically coherent animated films I've seen in years#like all i can think of is.... klaus (also conspicuously white tbh) and... spider-verse (no notes; that movie rules) and....#i cannot think of anything else dear gods. i guess Turning Red. maybe Encanto even tho it is conspicuously straight#raul just being there made me very nearly cry from happiness as a Transmasc. i also went to a catholic school. didn't like it.#so i can only listen to POC and try to imagine the anger and grief they feel at their erasure and the joy of their inclusion.#and folks seemed to really like this movie! which is amazing! how about a few thousand more? to start.#my three favorite things on this earth are my wife my dog and a clever and meaningful inversion of a harmful trope.#I live for taking a shitty thing in storytelling and turning it around and making it better than anything it ever has been before#prison bars torn away and twisted into sculptures and all that#i didn't even realize sister helley was fat until a few days later bc it is irrelevant to the plot and never brought up. and i was like#omg how did i miss that! non-joke fat characters mean everything to me! sister helley is awesome.#legit if i had seen this movie as a child i think it would have permanently changed something in me. in a good way.#i didn't start questioning racism in america until I was an adult. this movie would have had me asking questions so much earlier.#we need movies like this. we NEED them. no room for 'subtlety.' these stories must be told.#AND ONE MORE THING: I own those boots! Same boots!! Got them some years ago. Kat has great taste.

Being consistently misgendered in DBT is slowly driving me insane.
#our t#I'm literally like. 3 sessions away from finishing this shit and the actual material far outweighs the interpersonal group therapy part#The whole thing would be good if it weren't for the fact that - despite this being arranged by an inclusive mental health service -#NO ONE has any idea of what trans people are beyond like. A mean spirited cartoon of a trans woman. Like from fucking Family Guy#or something (/derogatory). So really none of them have any idea what the word trans even means or what real trans folks can look like#And they deeefinitely don't know that transmasculine or intersex people exist in real life. We're like a goddamn unicorn to them#And this is a nuanced topic for us. It always is. But I specifically entered this space as myself because I'm just kind of#the front man for nervewracking social shit. I can handle that stuff and I don't panic. So I introduced myself as. yknow.#'Hi I'm Dirk I'm transgender and my pronouns are he/him.' Short and simple ID. I'm a geiger counter for this crap#because in my mind if they can't handle a simple he/him from me they're absolutely NOT talking to the rest of my system.#About to shuck off all gender ID labels and just say that we're intersex & use the plural they/them. Just to watch 'em squirm about it#Wrote an email to the idiot leading this group so hopefully something will come of that. Not expecting much though#This is literally the most cisgendered white middle class group of people I've ever encountered#Like. They all have young teens too. Someone actually admitted to me that I remind her of her daughter#Which is nice and all and would be fine if she didn't then consistently fucking misgender me while including me in#conversations about 'girlhood' and how she believes that ''men & women manifest BPD in different ways bc [they] feel different things''#''We as women are just way more in tune with our emotions so they're usually stronger more often! Unlike men who just feel anger''#<- Verbatum quote. My queer ass *just* got done talking abt my experience with being allowed to be emotional#as a clocky queer intersex guy. The answer to which is minimal. And then the gender essentialism never left chat.#Drives me insane because I have so many things to contribute to this but they are all so FUCKING CISGENDER AND PERISEX#And so goddamn WHITE.

Okay not ragging on wearing seatbelts at all, DEFINITELY DO THAT, but I will say that I kinda do think seat belts are sexist. Mostly because cars were designed with male drivers in mind and to this day the majority of crash tests are conducted WITH male-only dummies- this has skewed the survivorship of male and female drivers, because women aren’t the the ones with the design in mind, they end up dying on a much more regular basis. (You cannot convince me no woman has ever been boob slapped at an ungodly force because an airbag wasn’t aimed correctly at her chest), I think that the seat belt’s design is just a vestigial remnant of that fact. Women are more likely to die in a crash as the driver, and it’s because cars aren’t usually being tested with female-designed dummies. (There’s a few around now, but this is still pretty new.)
I sincerely think that while unimportant (technically), the design of seat belts could definitely be modified for the comfort of all people while also being safe, if not even safer. Just cause it works doesn’t mean it can’t be better!
Also??? Breast amputation????? Girl- if car crashes resulted in male castrations the design would’ve been changed immediately. Don’t even play with me right now. Even if it’s survivorship bias that’s still a permanent and disfiguring injury that is by all means preventable by an improved design. No one gender or sex should suffer severe bodily disfigurement because they weren’t accounted for. That just isn’t ok.
And it’s not even just women this applies to. Would it kill us to actually cover the rough fabric in soft sleeves? I remember seat belts rubbing and even sometimes burning my skin as a child- because they don’t account for the kaleidoscope of people who will enter, exit, and use a seatbelt while in the car. Children are sensitive to that stimulus too. I don’t think parents of special needs children (or any children, for that matter) should have to go about replacing their car’s seatbelts because some Rich ass company decided to not improve a preexisting design because they want to hold on to their money with greedy grubby fingers. Kinda defeats the purpose of innovation if not a soul tries to improve at something.
What I’m saying is- safety devices like seatbelts are important, and they should absolutely be used and worn, but they can stand to be improved and updated to be better for everyone. Just because they work doesn’t mean their design was inclusive from the jump nor is it currently. Seatbelts working and seat belts having a rather unfriendly design for certain groups are both true statements that can coexist without either being wrong. But that’s something that is fixable. And it shouldn’t be ignored just because it works.

Homemaking, gardening, and self-sufficiency resources that won't radicalize you into a hate group
Tumblr media
It seems like self-sufficiency and homemaking skills are blowing up right now. With the COVID-19 pandemic and the current economic crisis, a lot of folks, especially young people, are looking to develop skills that will help them be a little bit less dependent on our consumerist economy. And I think that's generally a good thing. I think more of us should know how to cook a meal from scratch, grow our own vegetables, and mend our own clothes. Those are good skills to have.
Unfortunately, these "self-sufficiency" skills are often used as a recruiting tactic by white supremacists, TERFs, and other hate groups. They become a way to reconnect to or relive the "good old days," a romanticized (false) past before modern society and civil rights. And for a lot of people, these skills are inseparably connected to their politics and may even be used as a tool to indoctrinate new people.
In the spirit of building safe communities, here's a complete list of the safe resources I've found for learning homemaking, gardening, and related skills. Safe for me means queer- and trans-friendly, inclusive of different races and cultures, does not contain Christian preaching, and does not contain white supremacist or TERF dog whistles.
Homemaking/Housekeeping/Caring for your home:
Making It by Kelly Coyne and Erik Knutzen [book] (The big crunchy household DIY book; includes every level of self-sufficiency from making your own toothpaste and laundry soap to setting up raised beds to butchering a chicken. Authors are explicitly left-leaning.)
Safe and Sound: A Renter-Friendly Guide to Home Repair by Mercury Stardust [book] (A guide to simple home repair tasks, written with rentals in mind; very compassionate and accessible language.)
How To Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis [book] (The book about cleaning and housework for people who get overwhelmed by cleaning and housework, based on the premise that messiness is not a moral failing; disability and neurodivergence friendly; genuinely changed how I approach cleaning tasks.)
Gardening
Rebel Gardening by Alessandro Vitale [book] (Really great introduction to urban gardening; explicitly discusses renter-friendly garden designs in small spaces; lots of DIY solutions using recycled materials; note that the author lives in England, so check if plants are invasive in your area before putting them in the ground.)
Country/Rural Living:
Woodsqueer by Gretchen Legler [book] (Memoir of a lesbian who lives and works on a rural farm in Maine with her wife; does a good job of showing what it's like to be queer in a rural space; CW for mentions of domestic violence, infidelity/cheating, and internalized homophobia)
"Debunking the Off-Grid Fantasy" by Maggie Mae Fish [video essay] (Deconstructs the off-grid lifestyle and the myth of self-reliance)
Sewing/Mending:
Annika Victoria [YouTube channel] (No longer active, but their videos are still a great resource for anyone learning to sew; check out the beginner project playlist to start. This is where I learned a lot of what I know about sewing.)
Make, Sew, and Mend by Bernadette Banner [book] (A very thorough written introduction to hand-sewing, written by a clothing historian; lots of fun garment history facts; explicitly inclusive of BIPOC, queer, and trans sewists.)
Sustainability/Land Stewardship
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer [book] (Most of you have probably already read this one or had it recommended to you, but it really is that good; excellent example of how traditional animist beliefs -- in this case, indigenous American beliefs -- can exist in healthy symbiosis with science; more philosophy than how-to, but a great foundational resource.)
Wild Witchcraft by Rebecca Beyer [book] (This one is for my fellow witches; one of my favorite witchcraft books, and an excellent example of a place-based practice deeply rooted in the land.)
Avoiding the "Crunchy to Alt Right Pipeline"
Note: the "crunchy to alt-right pipeline" is a term used to describe how white supremacists and other far right groups use "crunchy" spaces (i.e., spaces dedicated to farming, homemaking, alternative medicine, simple living/slow living, etc.) to recruit and indoctrinate people into their movements. Knowing how this recruitment works can help you recognize it when you do encounter it and avoid being influenced by it.
"The Crunchy-to-Alt-Right Pipeline" by Kathleen Belew [magazine article] (Good, short introduction to this issue and its history.)
Sisters in Hate by Seyward Darby (I feel like I need to give a content warning: this book contains explicit descriptions of racism, white supremacy, and Neo Nazis, and it's a very difficult read, but it really is a great, in-depth breakdown of the role women play in the alt-right; also explicitly addresses the crunchy to alt-right pipeline.)
These are just the resources I've personally found helpful, so if anyone else has any they want to add, please, please do!

i keep running into people in my fandom circles being elitist pieces of shit conflating popular=bad or 'i saw a teenager like it once so it and everyone into it are all awful uneducated assholes' with feigned moral superiority and it's pissing me off bad. if you want to be a hater at least be honest about it. stop pretending like you care about people's media consumption habits when you actually just want to hate anything you don't know and make yourself look better than everyone else. especially if you only start making these assumptions and comments the moment a piece of media blows up in popularity and you thought it was cool or left it alone before. this shit can have serious consequences but mostly I'm just sick of seeing it hate ethically please. and not in a 'im claiming my taste in media is ethically superior and everything else is for snivelling uneducated heathens and probably has bad rep in it or something and isn't a classicℱ as deemed by the fandom elders so it's probably vapid and worthless and has something wrong with it and everyone that likes it is bad' way
#DONT PISS ME OFF!!!!!!!!#by hate ethically i mean dont fucking insult people for no reason and when youre hating be self aware and be like#yeah i do hate it cause im bored#yeah i do like to bitch about popular things when they get a bit popular#just be real#i have a lot more respect for that#reading people bitching can be fun and this isnt applicable to like legitimate huge huge issues with certain media but like#if youre in a lot of the same fandom circles as i am youll get it#people fall over themselves to look like a saint specifically by spamming hate at fans of media they have never interacted with#so they wrap it up in false pretenses to make themselves seem like theyre doing activism by doing so#whike theyre just being plainly elitist for no reason other than to big up their own ego and look good while being elitist#dont even get me started on the people who think liking historically important media that isnt for everybody is better than 'bland' media#i saw that this morning from a mutual and it got me so mad#like specifically they were calling a piece of media PAGES OF NOTHING and insulting someone for liking it#cause it was a romcom webcomic that updates a few pages a week#people let media literacy go to their heads way too fast and use it as a free pass to insult anyone that likes something they dont know#i just#if i go into any more detail ill make people mad#so im just going to stop here for now#but im legitimately pissed off by this trend and i hate it cause its a lot more popular in queer inclusive niche anime media spaces#thats my home mannnn
